Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Have fun!
- 0:00[SPEAKER_03]: Wife!
- 0:01[SPEAKER_00]: Do you know what we're doing to do?
- 0:04[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we just finished five chapters of Matthew.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: We did.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_03]: And generally in our podcasting realm of things that we do.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_03]: Our history, our podcasting history, the past thing there that we did.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: The past, our history.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: That would mean that we are doing a Q&A, not on Saturday, which we used to do a long time ago.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: But now we just do that whenever they fall.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_03]: We're recording it on a Saturday.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_03]: Oh yeah, so I mean if we get it as soon as it could be a Q&A Saturday.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: That is true!
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: My peace Saturday!
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: But that kind of gets into a topic real quick here that I wanted to bring up.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so This Q&A is not over chapters one through five even though that's the five that we read right Because I was a bit overwhelmed because Jesus did a jump scare and he threw so much shit at me and I was like
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: What the fuck?
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: There was so much, and I was like, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, and so I'm only doing the Q&A over chapter one, and then toward that end, I will be doing the Q&A not every five chapters, but every few chapters.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_03]: So we've got a few Q&A make-ups to do now, too.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Um, just two before we're back on like this one.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: And then I'll do another Q&A that's over chapters two through four.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not going to do five yet because chapter five is actually part of a larger group.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: And knowing that made me kind of look ahead a little bit, which I didn't do at all in the old testament because I wanted to come at this not knowing.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: But.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus is making me slow down and look ahead a little bit.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Fuck in Jesus.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: I know, Jesus is making me be a bit more organized than methodical because he has a lot of shit to say.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't want to miss a word of Jesus.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: When he hear everything Jesus has to tell me.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: I want to open my heart and let that fucker in.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: And so the sermon on the mount started in chapter five, but doesn't end until chapter seven and that's when I'll do another Q and A right right and then I'll kind of keep you posted.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_03]: I have a whole schedule here, which I know basically a new new new new testament and new psychologists this course format who this.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_03]: stack this.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, nice things.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: Well done.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: You pulled that out.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_03]: I did.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_03]: Um, so again, you said, we're going to work chapter one today.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: Just chapter one.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: And there, I mean, I printed like four pages worth of information.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_03]: Why, why was it going to turn if we were doing the whole fucking thing, it was going to be like, if we were doing five chapters, like five hour long and episode, I think.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and it would have stopped at a really stupid place.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, because it wouldn't have been in the middle of the sermon.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_03]: So I wouldn't have gotten all the muffers to crescent.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: I feel I feel a lot better about this.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: And this gives me a little more confidence to go into chapters two through four to answer questions better.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_03]: All right, so today we're doing a Q&A over chapter one of Matthew.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that is correct.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: Little Maddie.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: Chapter one gets his own little Q&A.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_03]: All right, let's do this.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, okay.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we are going to hop right into Little Maddie.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: And he starts out immediately with like boom, Jesus.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_03]: boom.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: And that kind of freaked my shit out.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm being honest here.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: I was not expecting.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I thought there would be some build up.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: And there wasn't.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: He just came out of nowhere.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_03]: No, he was he got right in there.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: And so here's the thing.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: I need to talk about
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: But like, whoa, Jesus, what's a Jesus?
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: And who's a Matthew talking about a Jesus?
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, what was going on here?
- 4:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_03]: Because this is a whole new thing.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_03]: It's right.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_03]: And it's a new testimony.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's a new testimony.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: It is a new testament.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: And it's scary to me.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_03]: And they're testimony.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: they are and I want to I want to do it justice like I want all my questions answered right right so there are many indications based on the way that Matthew wrote that he expected that his readers would be very familiar with Jewish culture because get what he was fucking Jewish yeah so he started his
- 5:01[SPEAKER_03]: We hold on even Jesus.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_03]: Even Jesus is Jewish.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_03]: Just want to make sure all clear on that.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: His parental units are Jewish.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: As of the moment that he's born, the God Yahweh is Jewish.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's a Jewish God.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like we haven't strayed yet into any kind of
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: Christianity or anything like that.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like we're very Jewish right now, okay.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: There's lots of different Jewish sects floating around in this time period.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: This is post Babylonian exile.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: So all the Jews are scattered, hither and yon.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: And everybody has their own ideas about what's happening and what should happen.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: There's a great expectation that there will be a Messiah coming because that was hinted at.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the only thing that could bring all the scattered Jews back together.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: Got it.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: And so they're like, OK, any minute now, and they're like, looking at their watch that hasn't been invented yet, and they're like, OK,
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: So that's where Jesus is born into this expectation that there's something's going to happen.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: Any minute now, okay, so Matthew is like, okay, so there was this guy named Jesus who was born.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: And everybody's like, what?
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: He starts off.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's like talking to a Jewish audience.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: And in order to like prove the story,
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: of like how true it is right he starts his genealogy like let me tell you about Jesus okay yeah i'm gonna tell you about his guiding Jesus and he's the Messiah but in order to prove that I need to tell you his genealogy and he does that right off the bat.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: Sure
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and he's like, y'all know Abraham and like it's a Jewish audience.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: So they're like, yeah, they're like, get this.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus came from Abraham and they're like, what that doesn't want it.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: And so he like goes on this like several verses and he's like, be got, be got, be got, be got, be got, be got, be got.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: And they're like immediately, me and you were like, hold on.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: We have questions.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I have charts.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_03]: I understand it is that it's flawed from the get go because it is it's based on Joseph it is and that's problematic that is problematic because Joseph is not his bio daddy.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: So okay, I'm going to get there in a second.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: Let me.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: talk more about just Matthew addressing this Jewish audience.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so first of all, he states his theme.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, Jesus is the Messiah, and here's how come I can say that.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: He is descended from Abraham, Y'all know Abraham.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: He frequently refers to Jesus as the Son of David.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: So he's like,
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: son of David, son of David Abraham, so he's like doing lots of qualifiers and like common knowledge language to like hammer home, who this guy is and that he's for real.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about this in the old testament, but because we knew that David was going to become this big thing, right?
- 8:24[SPEAKER_03]: Like as far as how they reference him versus Jesus,
- 8:29[SPEAKER_03]: But David is very problematic.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: David is so fucking problematic.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you okay.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think that a lot of Christians that read the Bible.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: They don't know how bad the Bible is.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: He was so bad.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: He was a horrible human being.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: He was very bad.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: He was not somebody that you want to bring home to me your mom.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_03]: He had somebody fucking kill to cover up the on a fairy had with his wife.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: He like that's not had that's not good.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: So many different wives and concubines and think he was not good.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: You guys he was not a good person.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: He was not a good representative of.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_03]: But he is the disnaked dancing person in the Bible.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: He does, so Dan's probably the only one I know of.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: Ding-dong.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_03]: And he gave it in the Bible.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he is all about it.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, I just had to point the thousands we're talking about the line of David.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: No, I still true, and everybody's like, I mean, David, you know, David, and then I believe you know now, David.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's like, maybe you should read the Bible because I read it and David is not good.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's not this good guy.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think a lot of Christians know that.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: So to get back to Matthew was dressing a Jewish audience.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: He's like Abraham, son of David.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know, all the good Jewish words, right?
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: And then he's like, he uses the Jewish phrase kingdom of heaven instead of kingdom of God.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_03]: I have to understand we're gonna hear that a lot.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: We are going to hear that so fucking much because he's using propaganda and he's using where you say a word over and over and over again to lend it truth, truthiness.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: I forget what that's called, but it's like where you just you say the more that you say it, the more true it must be because you've said it a hundred billion.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_03]: I mean Trump's skill.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_03]: Trump does the same thing.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, this was like in the pre-Trump days
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: and Matthew was bringing it home.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: So the gospel of Matthew begins with the words, the book of genealogy, which in Greek would be the genesis familiar genesis.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's the first book of the Bible.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: The Hebrew Bible, the Hebrew Testament.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so it's the book of genealogy of Jesus Christ or the Genesis of Jesus Christ.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: Let us not forget that this book, the first several while Matthew, in particular, is supposed to, um, mirror the first five books of the Hebrew Bible.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: The pen to the pen to the pen to the pen to the pen to the pen to the pen to the pen.
- 11:08[UNKNOWN]: So that it,
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: You know, brings home that this is for realsies, okay?
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: And we're gonna see a lot more reminders of that.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, they are really trying to sell this.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_03]: But they're really trying to sell a lot of things, but yeah.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: But you've got to get a hook in before you can get the rest of the message down the people throat, you've got to, you've got to make them believe that whatever else you're about to say is true, they got to believe that you are true.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_03]: I even believe that these people believe
- 11:39[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't necessarily.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, I don't know, but I don't, I wouldn't say that they didn't necessarily have.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_03]: I don't, then you know what?
- 11:49[SPEAKER_03]: No, I don't know if I believe that because they're shoving shit, show, so hard.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_03]: They're trying so hard to make what sales.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's such propaganda.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: I cannot even with it.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: He deliberately echoes the words of Genesis to chapter two verse four in the book of the Genesis of like he is specifically saying things to be like this is so for real.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm being so for real with you right now.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: And his audience is like, Oh, well, you said you're, you know, you said so many Jewish buzzwords.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: You must be telling the truth, right?
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: So some modern theories about the gospel of Matthew indicate that he wrote in the style of Jewish mid-Rash literature, which I don't know if you recall, we talked a lot about that as we went through the Old Testament, where it was more story-driven and less-based in historical fact.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: it was more on feelings and how to make a story sound good and to be remembered.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: And it didn't have to have truthiness or facts in it.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: And so if he was writing like this, he would not have expected to have been believed as factual.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_03]: Interesting.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I found that interesting also.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: And again, let us not forget, Matthew was a,
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: Jewish person teaching.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: So it would not have been impossible to believe that he was writing hyperbolicly.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: As many Midwest writers did.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_03]: Well, this wasn't actually Matthew writing this, right?
- 13:29[SPEAKER_03]: Correct.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_03]: Somebody else later on.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: Correct.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_03]: Essentially.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: Um, when he writes, he creates imagery stories as a running commentary on the Old Testament.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: So he's like, you know, doing things in the same pattern that Mid-Rashwriters did.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: Some writers use the Mid-Rashwriters, or, I'm sorry, some writers use the Mid-Rash example to say that Matthew wrote about many events that never actually happened, but he
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't say he was lying like we we would say oh my god, you're lying But they wouldn't say he was lying at the time because he never intended to tell the truth It wasn't about it was a big for yeah, Judaism essentially and his audience never believed that the stories were real necessarily right and it could have been more of a Mind exercise and what if we did have a
- 14:30[SPEAKER_03]: that he's, you know, a fucking guy that was born son of God.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_03]: What would that look like?
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: And how would we behave and how would that go?
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: What kind of things would happen to him?
- 14:41[SPEAKER_03]: Because there is one thing that Judaism does really well, and that's to analyze and question their own beliefs a little bit.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_03]: Like to some degree.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: That's what the Midwest was all about.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: And all the Midwest writers, they were grappling with faith and how to live it in their daily lives, what it meant back then.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: versus what it meant to them now and they still do that to this day.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: So it's one of the things I admire most about the Jewish faith is that it's very conversational.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's a continuing dialogue.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_03]: What's that book that you can tell me about that basically is a continuation of Hermione and
- 15:23[SPEAKER_03]: their relationship.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's now called something else or whatever.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so there was a fanfic called Manicold that was about her Mayani and Draco mouthful.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: And then it went from it gained so much popularity on Manicold games, so much popularity on fanfic boards that it got picked up and was rewritten and edited.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: and then came out as a traditionally published book called Alchemist.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so it would be like if this would be like if Alchemist became what was known as the Harry Potter world, as opposed to Harry Potter.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's true.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: That is true.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's essentially Christianity, right?
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just the same enough to be swallowed, but also just different enough to be new and exciting.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, that's just, you know, that's a great analogy.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_03]: I threw it off there cause I knew you'd be excited about it.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: So, well, excited.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if that's the right.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_03]: Nobody was excited about it.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: Knowledgeable on the topic.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if excited is anyway.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, but it's an app description of what happened.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's so true.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's so true.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: So, okay, that, that place is Matthew, okay.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: He's talking to a Jewish audience saying some Jewish shit that is like, totally believe me and they're like, okay, maybe.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: But he's also like, maybe don't believe me, believe me, but like, I have a story to tell him.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, okay, we're listening.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: Sounds cool.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: Go on.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: Go on.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: Right, right.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so we start, we start the book, okay.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: The genealogy of Jesus motherfucking Christ, yes.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_03]: And, which I also want to point out that at one point, the line of David died off completely.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: No, it totally did.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_03]: In the Old Testament.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: No, it totally did.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_03]: There's multiple problematic things here.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: Look, I have two separate charts here that I'm about to get into, because I was like, hold on, hold on, hold on.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so as Matthew tells it, the genealogy of Christ is divided into three classes of 14 generations each.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: The first 14 are Abraham to David.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: The second 14 are from Solomon to Jack and Ias and the third 14 are from Jack and Ias to Christ.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: There's so many fucking problems here.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: Matthew presents his theme in his first sentence.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus is the fulfillment of prophecy and of Israel's expectations.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: This is the genealogy of Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: Whoa!
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was a total fucking jump scare.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: I cannot state this enough.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: I did not know that that's how the new testament began.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_03]: That's the shorthand of telling him that he goes all the way back, guys.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_03]: When in reality, most of y'all probably do.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I'm just saying the way the way I'll go back in the generation, we're all fucking related.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's so true.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's so true.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: So let me tell you a couple of things.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus is the Greek form of the name Joshua.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: which means salvation or the Lord saves.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: It was a fucking common ass name back then.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: And Messiah is the Hebrew and Christ is the Greek.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: Both of those words mean anointed one.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: So we've got Salvation Board saves Messiah Christ anointed one like he's so fucking holy.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: So then we get Jesus' genealogy through Joseph and it is it is there's so many it'd be got be got be got be got be got And I went back and I re-listened to our episode which I don't want to typically do but a y'all I want to make sure I got all our questions.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_03]: I mean we had a lot.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing this right, okay?
- 19:21[SPEAKER_03]: And more than that, like we have a good basis to like start reading the New Testament now because we read the Old Testament and and we've got questions.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: And and I even said as we were going through all the begots, this is giving Leviticus.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: I am so proud of myself for saying that because it's true, it is giving a little bit of guess.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_00]: So this genealogy establishes Jesus' claim to the throne of David through his adopted father Joseph.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: This is not the blood lineage of Jesus through Mary.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_00]: This is the legal lineage of Jesus through Joseph.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_00]: And we don't know this yet because we haven't got there yet, but apparently it is suggested that the gospel of Luke is going to provide Jesus's blood lineage through Mary.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_03]: Oh.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know how that's going to work.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get to it.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_03]: So, so, just how Mary your cousins are some thinner.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: Probably.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: Probably they all kinds of cousin fuckers in the Bible.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: Here's the thing.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: So like we've got an old testament lineage that I got I printed off and it goes from Adam through King David.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, all right.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: And so Genesis chapter five talks about Adam to Noah.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I can name all those off if you want.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: But there's no point.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: We've read it.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: We've all been back.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, go back and listen to it.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_03]: If we did the begats.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_03]: So.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Genesis chapters 10 through 11.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: Talk about Noah all the way down to Abraham.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: And this is where it starts being like, okay.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm listening.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_00]: Sure got a pay attention from Abraham on is when we got questions.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, because that's where Matthew starts Matthew starts at Abraham.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_03]: Got it.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you can take it with the highlights here, you know, I'm going to, I'm going to, I want to cite my sources too.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: So Genesis chapters 25 and then chapters 29 through 35 cover Abraham to Jacob and Judah.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_00]: And Matthew agrees with that part.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: The book of Ruth covers.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: Judah all the way down through David.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: And for the most part, Matthew agrees for the most part.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: Now then we get
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: a bunch of places, first Kings, second Kings, first Chronicles, second Chronicles, Ezra, Hagai, Zechariah.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_00]: In all of those books, and I have the chapters, if anybody's curious.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's where we get the dividecline after David through Joaquimma.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: And it's very important that we pronounce that mhm on the end of that.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_00]: Because that dude is one of the several missing from Matthew.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: So now if we're counting David all the way down to Joaquimma.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: there's 17.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's not 14.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_03]: That's not 14.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: There's also three dudes, three other dudes besides the Joaquimah missing from Matthew.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: He totally skips from Joram to Yusaya.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_00]: He skips right over Asaya, Joash, and Amazaya.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe you just had a brain lapse.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't know if you noticed, but if you take 17 minus those three in the middle, then you get 14, right, except that he's also missing Joaquin mother.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: Now, here's the thing.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, this is both exciting and confusing.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: So the first Dividic King descendant is clearly taken into the Babylonian, that was clearly taken into Babylonian captivity was Jack and Aya, okay?
- 23:57[SPEAKER_00]: And he came right after Joaquimba, okay?
- 24:01[SPEAKER_00]: So this is generally considered the place where
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: the Babylonian exile starts in the Dividecline.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_00]: And then, so then we got Jack and Naya, who's also known as Joaquin and Konaya, depending on the Hebrew or the Babylonian or the...
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_00]: But we know him as Jack and Naya.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then she'll teal and then Zeruba Bell.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: And then after that, she starts the fall of heart.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, after the roub about is about done.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_03]: I distinctly like I said, remember it, it did.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_03]: Like the David line ended.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: Well.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so in first chronicles chapter three, after Zeruba Bell, the genealogy becomes less historically anchored and way more obscure.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: These figures survive mainly as names preserving the continuation of the Davidic bloodline after the monarchy collapsed.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: So they don't get stories or anything they're merely mentioned, okay?
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then remember that one guy and we're like, no.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: So there are, there are, there are names, but we never really learned anything about them.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, they were mentioned, but by the end of the old testament, the line of David still exists biologically, but the throne itself is gone and so it might as well not.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: Now to get into Matthew.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: Matthew traces the line from Abraham down to Jesus through Joseph emphasizing the royal line of David.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: But as I said, he's got some wonky numbers going on.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: So if we go from Abraham to David, that's 14.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: Perfect.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: Wonderful.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: That matches up and it's 14 and your math is beautiful and your history is great.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: And sure, I'll believe you.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 26:00[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: The poem is, when we go then from David to Jakenaya, the numbers don't work, and that's because he's missing three, and he had to take the three out to make it work, which was calm and back then because they'd often say, so-and-so, the son of such and such, and when they say, son they meant descendant of, not specific, son of, still,
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: it's weird to us because we're looking at this as a historical document that we need to trust and we want accuracy.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: Since this is claiming the mother fucking word of God and we're supposed to trust it.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_00]: We're like we want the facts, you know.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and I think that's fair of us, but also to be fair to the writer, he was ten for a Jewish writer back in the day who had no fucking idea that he should have been more historical and less mid-Rashic.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: So to be fair to both ends, the telephone game.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: I got you.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of times,
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: People will say, okay, we took those three out, and that leaves us but only 13.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_00]: Unless you list David again, because Matthew says, from Abraham to David is 14 and then from David to the exile is 14.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, okay.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: But if you use that,
- 27:34[SPEAKER_00]: example, but then he goes and from the exile to Jesus is 14.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: So by that same example, you'd have to use the Jekhanaya guy twice, right?
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: Once on each end.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: But you don't.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: In the math never
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: And it doesn't work.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: The math in math.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I was very frustrated that said my, my brain, I was very frustrated.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I told you the three guys that he leaves out, he also likely left out many others, but we don't get to complain because they were left out of the Old Testament altogether as well.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_00]: But there's probably a lot of other people missing from both the Old Testament as well as Matthew later on.
- 28:33[UNKNOWN]: Right.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_00]: The structure appears intentional and literary, not archival.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: So like the 1414, 1414, right?
- 28:44[SPEAKER_00]: He skips kings and he tries to create this pattern intentionally and calls it out as, I'm trying to make this a pattern y'all.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, most scholars think, and our question was why, why?
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: Um, most scholars think Matthew chose the number 14.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: Remember they were like so big on numbers.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm seven to big ones seven's a big one.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: This is multiple of seven.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's so exciting for them.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_00]: The Hebrews spelling of David's name.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: Lent itself to the number 14.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like the D is a four.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: The V would have been a double V. Okay.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_00]: And that would have been six.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: And then D again, because remember they didn't do vowels.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_00]: So the D again would be four.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_00]: So we got four six four, right?
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's total of 14.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of scholars are like so this genealogy is basically shouting David David David got it wrong wrong.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, it's David.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: Who is it?
- 29:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's David.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: This is so David and they weren't just crying.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_03]: They were trying real fucking hard.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_00]: It was sickening how hard they were playing.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_00]: And everybody bought it because it was very exciting.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: It was very exciting.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you have a god that kills a lot of people all the time.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_03]: Including his own people.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_03]: The sounds so much better.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, just if you're if you're doing it.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're yeah.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_03]: No, but I'm saying like if that if you're if you're pinched something different than that guy.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_03]: But still kind of the same thing.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, cool.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: What are you selling?
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: What are you selling?
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: What were you bought?
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so this structure this 14 structure it emphasizes Jesus as the Son of David the Royal Air and the fulfillment of the messianic expectation without
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: having to mess up that whole.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but remember when God cursed that whole line and said, no, I don't have a habit.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_00]: So the question is, was Matthew wrong?
- 30:40[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, or was God wrong?
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: Right, that's what I would say because as far as the question was Matthew wrong, I don't think that's a fair question because it really does depend on what standard you use.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to be really fair to this guy.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_00]: Matthew seems more interested in theological symbolism than precision bookkeeping.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_00]: And that is very much to his own detriment and to our detriment historically speaking centuries later when we're just trying to figure shit out.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_03]: But is it really to his detriment because he's persisted as a religion like that this book is the beginning of Who knows if that was Christiana?
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so knows if that was actually his intention though.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_03]: No, I'm not saying it was intention.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just saying that It doesn't feel like it was detrimental.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_03]: It feels like it worked
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: Determental to, if that's not what he intended, you know, he's definitely his detriment, you know?
- 31:40[SPEAKER_03]: Right, but the problem at this point, because of so many years of indoctrination of a religion, it doesn't even matter.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't matter.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't matter.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 32:00[UNKNOWN]: It doesn't matter where he is.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_03]: find these things out on their own, you know, and figure out what they believe based on the things that they find out.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_03]: But it is very interesting understanding how this religion persists through our society right now, how flimsy it is based on.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: which I mean, one could say that things don't ever change because think about what's happening in our government right now based on such flimsy nonsense.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and the people are eating it up.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's all smoking mirrors.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, everything, everything is smoking mirrors.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm like, that's, I think that's how you get ahead.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_03]: You have your, you have your dry ice and you have mirrors.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_03]: And you just, you, you make it happen.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's not a bad plan.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: I worked out for a lot of them.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: And it's working out for a lot of them even now.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_00]: And it's the same people selling the same fucking story.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, Griff does going to grift what's going to do.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: So, the Wat Kim guy, I told you, he was the one that was between Josiah and Jack and Ayah, and he was the one that was so wicked that through the prophet Jeremiah, which I have that
- 33:18[SPEAKER_00]: passage.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, God promised no blood descendant of Jack and I would sit on the throne of Israel, and that's super important.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_03]: It really is.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's the crux of everything.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just going to read those two verses from Jeremiah chapter 36 verses 30 and 31.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: Therefore, this is what the Lord says about Joaquimah, King of Judah.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: He will have no one to sit on the throne of David.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: His body will be thrown out and exposed to the heat by day and the frost by night.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_00]: I will punish him and his children and his attendants for their wickedness.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: I will bring on them and those living in Jerusalem and the people of Judah, every disaster I pronounced against them because they have not listened.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: He went on to say that he's going to wipe them the fuck off the planet and that no blood of his would sit on that throne ever, fucking I was referring to.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_03]: That's from Jeremiah.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_03]: Nope.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_03]: By David.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_03]: Be the by David line.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:30[UNKNOWN]: So
- 34:31[SPEAKER_03]: And at the time, I said, I think this is problematic.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you did, you did.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_00]: So that's like, okay, so how is this gonna work then?
- 34:42[SPEAKER_00]: And it doesn't actually, but we pretended did.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_03]: Sure, because we like to pretend the world and just make it all fake, because it's why not?
- 34:53[SPEAKER_03]: You just, you just, the round peg in the square, the, you know, it just, you hit it hard enough, it'll go through.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_00]: So obviously this presented a significant problem, if someone was a blood descendant of David through Joaquim.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_03]: I'm in Square Pagan, roundle.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: I knew what you meant.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, sorry.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_03]: I was my brain went whatever.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, if someone was a blood descendant of David through that guy, he could not sit on the throne of Israel and be the king and the Messiah because of this whole thing.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_02]: Well, look, yes, they're doing this through Joseph, so he's not technically a blood descendant.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_02]: Right?
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_02]: We're still winning.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: But if the conqueror is not descended through David, he couldn't be the legal heir of the throne because of the promise made to David and the nature of the royal line.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_00]: So according to Matthew chapter 1 verse 6, Joseph's line went through Solomon and therefore Joaquim the cursed one and Jesus was only the legal son of Joseph.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: Not the blood son of Joseph.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_03]: This is also convenient.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_00]: Because on Joaquim does not impact him.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: Isn't that lucky?
- 36:08[SPEAKER_03]: That's lucky.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_03]: That's lucky how that worked out.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_00]: She liked that never happens to me.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_00]: Joseph did not contribute any of the quote-unquote blood of Jesus, but he did contribute his legal standing as a descendant of the royal line to Jesus.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I believe all that, but okay, okay, look, if they...
- 36:30[SPEAKER_03]: I guess if they tie it through marry at some point, then there was still a blood, but like that's also really weird.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_03]: When we, that puts together a whole other set of issues that in my mind, yeah, and also why didn't we just cover ran out front.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_00]: Because don't forget that these books are not stapled together in order.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_00]: And that they're different people writing at different times.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, then there's two problems though, like if we do at some point through Mary established a blood line right then the walking mud guy or whatever.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_03]: The bad guy, he's going to be part of that lineage because he has to be because he's part of that blood line.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's still problematic.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's one of his brothers or something, one of our teams, I don't know.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_03]: Whatever.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_03]: It's still problematic.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's still bad and we're not good.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_00]: And not good.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_03]: Regardless, you're telling me that Jesus is based on not bloodline, but on legal, on legal ease.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_03]: Like, oh, we just etched him into this little,
- 37:38[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you here.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_03]: And so he's a piece and look, look, we made them, we made them, we made it connect there.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_03]: Look at the dots.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they're, they're connecting up to David.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_00]: What do you mean it doesn't count?
- 37:49[SPEAKER_00]: Of course it counts.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's on the wall.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_03]: Don't worry about that one over there.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_03]: Just skip that and go from here.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_03]: Get this one there and then back over there.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_03]: And then, and then you got Jesus and Jesus cool 14.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_00]: So Christ is conceived by the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary, when she was a spouse to Joseph.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_03]: Wait, the Holy Ghost can see you, Jesus?
- 38:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the dove?
- 38:23[SPEAKER_03]: Why you got up in her coop?
- 38:24[SPEAKER_03]: I see.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: Listen.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_00]: Listen.
- 38:27[UNKNOWN]: Listen.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: This is where we're going next, okay?
- 38:31[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: And then Joseph's anxieties and doubts are removed by the ministry of an angel.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, by whom the child is named Jesus.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'm giving the update like the summary so that then we can talk about the last church.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: That was just the first half of the chapter.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_03]: You were at an angel talked to you in your dreams?
- 38:51[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_03]: Me either.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, yeah, then we get the fulfillment of the prophecy of Isaiah.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_00]: We had a question.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_00]: What prophet Isaiah was the prophet okay.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'll I'll tell you when I get all right.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and then Joseph takes his wife Mary home and then Christ is born.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: okay yeah so that's all what happens in chapter one but let me just continue okay so Mary while engaged to Joseph it's found to be with child oh no as a result of a miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit I just I want to know when they came did he find out before he knew she was pregnant or after because like I'm that discussion had to be rough
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: You will, yeah, because here's the thing, let's, let's take them at their word, right?
- 39:37[SPEAKER_00]: Let's take them at their word and either.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_00]: Somehow she was impregnated and it wasn't him, okay, he's supposed to have been Joseph, is supposed to have been a good man.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_00]: And so when he found this out at the very best case scenario, she was raped, right, because let's assume she was a good girl and would never.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: So best case scenario, she was raped and well, even if it was God, she was kind of raped.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I know because not if there was no sex, she was merely impregnated.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's not necessarily, I don't know.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, it's could be made.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: I can't argue that one way or the other.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, because somebody can be artificially inseminated and will be considered that a rape.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_01]: No, that's fair.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: I guess.
- 40:33[UNKNOWN]: So.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_00]: a different discussion for a different day.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_00]: But that's case scenario.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's a good guy.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_00]: She's a good girl and they realize that she's pregnant and violated.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying really hard here.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_00]: Don't make me hit you.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_00]: I will punch you in the winner.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_00]: But violated is a good word.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good one.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely describes what you just went down.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_00]: So, okay, that's case scenario, they're both really good people, and he's like, okay, look, I don't know if you were running around on me or if you were run around on sure, but the fact of the matter is.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, we cannot get married now and I don't want to embarrass you like I'm well within my rights.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'm speaking as Joseph right now.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm well within my rights to go through like divorce shit and say that you cheated and had you stoned to death.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a good guy though.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: You're a good girl.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to do that to you.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_00]: That would suck.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: Why why.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just try to just get this whole marriage dissolved.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'll put you away and some kind of like, none of your place and that'll be it.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't I'm not here to ruin your life.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_00]: But obviously we can't get married now.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: So here's the thing.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: There were essentially three steps to marriage in the Jewish world at Jesus's time.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: So first came engagement and that could happen when the bride and groom were babies, even.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, because it was often arranged by parents.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_00]: Well, then came betrothal, and that made the previous engagement official and binding.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_00]: They're basically all been married.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_00]: They're betrothed.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_00]: They haven't had the ceremony yet, but they're just about married.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: And during this time, the betrothal during the time of betrothal, the couple were known as husband and wife, and it could only be broken by divorce, even though they hadn't had a ceremony.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_00]: Betrothal typically lasted a year and then marriage took place after the wedding and that's after the year of Betrothal.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_03]: Interesting.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_03]: So I want to would serve with that purpose served if it's still technically married.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_00]: Probably to find and probably to give the husband a chance to find out if he liked that sweet sweet pussy or if you want to trade it.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's my guess.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's a year to play married and see if it works and then clearly the woman has no saying it, but the husband could be like this ain't working.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like it.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_00]: Got it.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's my guess.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, the parents are the ones that set this up.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_00]: I can't think of any other.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's got to be financial and ownership.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_00]: Everything is a business.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_00]: So Joseph is like, again, I don't want to ruin your life.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to stone you to death, which he could very well easily have done.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that he didn't proves that regardless of what he believed, he was a decent man.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_03]: And so far as I mean, he was talking about two thousand years ago.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like I don't know the circumstances, right.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: I know that he did not have this poor girl stone to death for being pregnant.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: And for all we know he's the one that got her pregnant.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's like, oh, you can't just shut that down, but that's what I heard.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they said in the Senate shit man.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_03]: I said if I just
- 44:14[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, so an angel speaks to Joseph in a dream convincing him not to divorce Mary.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_00]: That was not the angel of the Lord, but simply an angel of the Lord.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_00]: And basically Mary had not told Joseph that she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit, because this is the first he's hearing of it.
- 44:39[UNKNOWN]: Right.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_00]: So she's like, I have no fucking clue how I got pregnant.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, that doesn't make any fucking sense.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, tell me who you fucked.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, but nobody though.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so then when he he's like, look, I don't want to talk about this anymore, but clearly we can't get married.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to kill you or embarrass you, but whatever, let's sleep on it.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_00]: He goes to sleep.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_00]: Angel comes in and is like, no, she wasn't lying for realsies, but it was got though.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, Oh, well, I'm so sorry about that.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_00]: My total better.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, this this whole story sounds so lame suspect.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_03]: Like, it's not.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 45:20[SPEAKER_00]: No, totally.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_00]: So he gets with the next morning, and he's like, so an angel came to me and told me that you weren't a lying face tour.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_00]: And so this is what we're gonna do.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_00]: And so the angel told Joseph and his dream that they're gonna name the baby Jesus.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_00]: The salvation of y'all way.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_00]: And that name, as I already said, was super common in the day.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_00]: The historian Josephus mentions 12 different dude's name Jesus at that time.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_03]: I've heard that before.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_03]: Like, there's some question as to like, which even if we even are talking about the right Jesus?
- 46:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, totally.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_03]: Because there's, there was a lot of Jesus.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_00]: There was a lot of Jesus I running around.
- 46:08[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_00]: So the Virgin birth took place as the fulfillment of prophecy.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: But here's the thing.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: The word virgin, let's argue about that a little bit, because there are some,
- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: There are some translations that point out, hey, so this was written in Greek member member member.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: And that word that they're using isn't necessarily virgin, it's just young girl, young maid.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_03]: Really?
- 46:38[SPEAKER_00]: But then other people are like, no, haven't you seen the other places that that word is used?
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: It always means virgin, and they're like, but then how do we know that it sometimes means younger?
- 46:50[SPEAKER_00]: Young girl, so she may not have been a virgin.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_03]: and truly even fucking no interesting I don't know do you know I don't and more over I don't think that there's a single person alive today that could answer that question scientifically interesting you see that
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: So versus 22 and 23 read, all those took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet and we're like, what prophet?
- 47:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_00]: Specifically, when I listened back, I was like, we didn't ask that, what prophet?
- 47:24[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I'll tell you what prophet, in just a second, okay?
- 47:27[SPEAKER_00]: Continues, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and they will call him a manual, which means God with us, okay?
- 47:35[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_00]: The prophet, quote I'm telling you.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_03]: the name of Jesus.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_00]: They did.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's all the same thing.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's all variations of Greek, Hebrew, Ermig, and all those other things.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: They all mean God is with us.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all always save us.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_00]: The anointed one.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_00]: God honors.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's all the same fucking thing.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's all those holy words.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_00]: The anointed one.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_00]: All right, but the prophet.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_00]: Who's the prophet?
- 48:09[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_01]: Who is he?
- 48:10[SPEAKER_00]: Well, apparently he was Isaiah.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_00]: Way back.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: Isaiah chapter 7 verse 14.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_03]: What does it say there?
- 48:19[SPEAKER_00]: You want to know?
- 48:20[SPEAKER_03]: I do.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_00]: So, so do I.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_00]: So I took verses 10 through 16 because I'm not about just mid sentence.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_03]: Let's get the whole context.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_00]: So again, the Lord spoke to A has
- 48:35[SPEAKER_00]: Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_00]: But A has said, I will not ask.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_00]: I will not put the Lord to the test.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: Then Isaiah said, here now you house a David, is it not enough to try the patience of humans?
- 48:53[SPEAKER_00]: Will you try the patience of my God?
- 48:56[SPEAKER_00]: Also, therefore the Lord himself will give you
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: or young girl will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him a manual, which means God with us.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: And he will be eaten curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right for before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_00]: The land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_00]: So he's like, there's going to be some guy descended from David that's going to be God and they're going to name him a manual.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_00]: So they're like, okay, hear me out.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_00]: Let's name this baby a manual.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_03]: Right, right, right, right.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and there's no real timeframe on how long those those kings have had to have been laid ways to, I guess, right, technically, right.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_03]: But that's that simple shit.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think that that fulfilled that prophecy?
- 49:57[SPEAKER_03]: No, what is that?
- 49:59[SPEAKER_00]: I was doing such big cool things just now.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_03]: The fact that they're bringing up the kings like during Isaiah and stuff.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_03]: It's referring to things that are happening then.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_03]: And we talked about things like this back in the Old Testament where that reference is so obviously not.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_03]: in any way tied to Jesus because it's just not it has nothing to do with that time frame in context like it doesn't it just doesn't because we're talking about other things at that point like the living back and read that whole chapter it would be talking about that I don't recall off top of my head but it would be talking about other things like that was going on in the time of Isaiah I do remember that and so like that that makes no sense in context right
- 50:43[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, sorry.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_00]: No, that's annoying.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: It really is.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we are anti this being a fulfilled prophecy and I have a feeling that we're going to get a lot of this throughout the rest of this fucking world.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_03]: I'm feeling you're right.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_00]: which means that I will be very excited and argumentative.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_03]: So even the New Testament, we make fun of Christian's cherry picking what they want out of the Bible, but even the New Testament cherry picked out of the Old Testament.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_03]: There's been cherry picking all along.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, the Old Testament was cherry picking from the pagans.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_00]: What you know?
- 51:18[SPEAKER_03]: Let me know this cherry picking all the way down.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_00]: cherry picking all the way down just like the turtles.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_00]: So then Joseph's like, yeah, okay, totally we're going to have this baby and name in Jesus and Manuel Christy doodle, whatever.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it sounds great.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to one.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_00]: So he marries Mary after the angelic announcement.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 51:45[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_00]: This is just a little interesting tidbit here on the end that I thought you might find interesting.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_00]: Verse 25 says, but he did not consummate their marriage until after she gave birth to a son.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_00]: Why?
- 52:02[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_00]: There's two things here.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_00]: There's two things.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_00]: One is he totally never fucked her until after she gave birth, which, okay, whatever.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I believe you, it's not even important.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_03]: Actually, that is kind of important because technically, I think they aren't legally bound legally married until they consummate the marriage.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_03]: If Jesus was born before, they were legally married.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_03]: The legality of the David line doesn't work.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_03]: Am I wrong?
- 52:31[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_00]: You are 100% right.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_00]: And that is part of why that's interesting.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_03]: I just, because you were sitting like, I knew you were getting to something, but like it occurred to me sitting there.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, that doesn't make sense.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_00]: But that's what the only thing.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_00]: um that is interesting on a Christianity level.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_00]: But on a like really hardcore Catholic level.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_00]: Catholics like to claim that Mary is the perpetual virgin.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_00]: She never had sex ever.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_00]: But this verse specifically says they did consummate their fucking marriage.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_00]: He fucked that girl.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_00]: And so that whole Mary's saint and she's the perpetual virgin and all that Catholics got that one wrong.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, according to the Bible.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_03]: Now I can specifically say I'm sure they have their own ways of explaining that but
- 53:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure they do, but I'm just seeing the words and they, they, they, they, yeah, according to the words, they're wrong, but what, what are, what are words?
- 53:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what their mood is.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what the vibe is, but the word is real meme.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_00]: And here's the other thing, there's no reason to believe that they didn't go on to have other children because in specific places, it refers to Jesus as her first sport.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, okay, meaning there would be more.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_00]: Well, not just that, but meaning that he was the one who bore the birthright.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_00]: You know, as the first born, he took the birthright, but there would have been others to follow.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_00]: So that one, unless convinced happen, I think probably, of course, why wouldn't they have had more kids?
- 54:22[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_00]: But there's nothing that specifically says, yes, they had more kids, but there's no reason to believe that they would...
- 54:28[SPEAKER_03]: They pop out the son of God.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_00]: They definitely had sex.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_00]: After Jesus, at the very least.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_03]: But Mary and Joe were, well, Mary pops out the son of Jesus and Mary and Joseph were just kind of like sideline for the rest of the New Testament.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_00]: I have no idea.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't read any more yet.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_03]: Well, they certainly don't talk about other children that they have.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_00]: That is true.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so that is everything that I brought to the table for chapter one of Matthew.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_03]: I was almost an hour long episode.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_00]: So can you see why I was freaking out because I came here and I was like, so about the Q&A.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, there's way too much with just chapter one to cover chapters one through five.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think the chapters two through four, we should be okay, cramming three chapters, two, three, four.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think that should be okay.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_03]: Well, and I have to admit, I was a little concerned that you were overstepping, but I was actually intrigued by a lot of that stuff, so that it was a good episode.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I know.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I knew I had good info to bring to the table and so I was like, no, you just wait.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_00]: You're just wait.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be some hot goss some juicy tidbits of knowledge.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, it's Jesus.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's Jesus.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, speaking of which I found I told you to write down.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_03]: Well, no, but let me, we did kind of he's on page one.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_03]: He's on page one.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but you've been referring to Jesus's rubber down in Jesus.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_03]: On our discord, I check found.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_03]: I found this and read it.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_03]: And I found a picture of Robert Danny Jesus.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my God.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_03]: Somebody shared like 11 years ago.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's amazing.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_03]: So there's a picture in the main general chat of Robert Danny Jesus.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_03]: I might I might share.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_03]: I should share that in Patreon as well.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_00]: I love that so much for us.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_00]: because RDJ has been going around picking up Fisherman's and we're like, why are they just like, dropping everything?
- 56:29[SPEAKER_00]: He must be like some kind of rubber bandy Jesus.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that was our Q&A for Matthew chapter one.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_00]: Sure, stuck was.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_03]: And we will be back next time with another.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_00]: Q&A over chapters two through four.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, we'll see you then.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_03]: Bye.
