Speaker 1: Direct from Hollywood with Ryan Seacrest. Many artists get asked
0:04
Speaker 1: to contribute to motion picture soundtracks, but when The Weekend
0:06
Speaker 1: was approached by James Cameron to create an original song
0:09
Speaker 1: for Avatar to the Way of Water, it was an
0:11
Speaker 1: immediate yes because the first Avatar holds a special place
0:14
Speaker 1: in the Weekend's heart. Reflecting on two thousand nine, when
0:17
Speaker 1: Avatar was released, he tells The Hollywood Reporter that was
0:20
Speaker 1: probably the darkest time in my life. I was pretty
0:23
Speaker 1: much homeless. I had dropped out of school. I didn't
0:25
Speaker 1: know if I was going to succeed as a musician,
0:27
Speaker 1: and I somehow got to see the film in theaters.
0:29
Speaker 1: I don't know how I got in. It was such
0:31
Speaker 1: an escape from my real life that the film is
0:33
Speaker 1: tattooed in my brain. So when they told me they
0:36
Speaker 1: had one name on the list to contribute a song
0:39
Speaker 1: and it was me, it felt like Kissman and a
0:41
Speaker 1: full circle moment because it is such an important film
0:44
Speaker 1: to me. The Weekend teamed up with Swedish house Mafia
0:46
Speaker 1: composer Simon Franklin to create Nothing Is Lost You Give
0:50
Speaker 1: Me Strength, which has just been shortlisted for an Academy Award.
0:53
Speaker 1: Avatar to the way of water in theaters. Now, that's
0:56
Speaker 1: direct from Hollywood.
