Perry officer receives Medal of Valor for life-saving actions during domestic disturbance

Perry Police Detective Zachary Waddoups was presented the department’s Medal of Valor Thursday in recognition of his actions during what officials described as a “chaotic family disturbance” on Nov. 7, 2025. Police Chief Scott Hancey read the department’s Medal of Valor policy, saying the award may be presented to an officer “who in the line of duty distinguishes themselves by the performance of any act of courage that involves risk or imminent serious personal injury for the purpose of saving or protecting human life,” or for “an extraordinary, creditable, and unusual police accomplishment.”…
