Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: My next guest is one of my favorites. This is
- 0:03Speaker 1: what it's called the long term relationships because we've known
- 0:05Speaker 1: each other the way back when she came back and
- 0:08Speaker 1: used to do samples thankful meals on the Steve Harvard
- 0:12Speaker 1: Mourning Show when I was executive produced and co created
- 0:14Speaker 1: Steve Harvard Morning Show, which Steve Harvey say the words
- 0:16Speaker 1: chef and traditionally it conjures up images of a big
- 0:19Speaker 1: white hat, a top, a restaurant chef. However, the recipe
- 0:23Speaker 1: for this dynamic chef goes against all traditions. Chef Jamica
- 0:27Speaker 1: is known for her bowl flavors and sassy personality to
- 0:31Speaker 1: say the least, my next guest. You love watching her
- 0:34Speaker 1: on the Food Network, the Cooking Channel and every win
- 0:36Speaker 1: she posts amazing recipes on my at Rashwan McDonald facebook page.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Please welcome my friend to Money Making Conversation, Chef Jamica.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I love listening to you, can listen to you forever.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Thank you and thank you. I appreciate that. You know,
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'm starting to get those emails, you know, the text said,
- 0:56Speaker 1: hey Rischan, you know what you're saying, and people starting
- 0:59Speaker 1: to find the show, and uh, I'm so excited because
- 1:01Speaker 1: I just want to be consistent, and not only with
- 1:04Speaker 1: people come on the show, but people who I'll invite
- 1:07Speaker 1: back to the show. They really you know, you come
- 1:09Speaker 1: on the show, you kind of come on. Let sure
- 1:11Speaker 1: you hear about Richelle that I have a relationship. Maybe
- 1:13Speaker 1: do when you do the show? Go wow, this show
- 1:14Speaker 1: is kind of different. He has no agenda. He just
- 1:17Speaker 1: wants to promote and be happy and and tell people's
- 1:19Speaker 1: success stories and share those that information. And you have
- 1:23Speaker 1: a great story to share. That's why I always bring
- 1:26Speaker 1: you back on my show. Thank you, Jeff. Yeah, And
- 1:29Speaker 1: I mean just listen to you. I'm like, he's telling
- 1:31Speaker 1: the truth. You can do it all. And people think, oh,
- 1:33Speaker 1: you can't have it all. Yes you can. You just
- 1:35Speaker 1: have to figure out your purpose. And a lot of
- 1:37Speaker 1: people like, oh, what's my purpose? It is whatever you
- 1:40Speaker 1: do to make somebody else smile. And for me, that's
- 1:42Speaker 1: through my food. I was pulling this to make people
- 1:45Speaker 1: smile with my food. And thank god, I can get
- 1:47Speaker 1: paid for it. I can get TV in doing it.
- 1:50Speaker 1: But everybody has put on this earth for a reason
- 1:52Speaker 1: and you just got to figure out what that is.
- 1:54Speaker 1: And yes, you can get paid very nicely for it,
- 1:56Speaker 1: but you can also be happy with what you do.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So I appreciate that you do this show that people
- 2:01Speaker 1: can hear stories and from so many different walks of
- 2:04Speaker 1: life and actually put themselves in those shoes and say
- 2:07Speaker 1: I can do this. Why am I not doing this?
- 2:09Speaker 1: Because they can do it, I can do it. So
- 2:10Speaker 1: that's why I just appreciate what you stand for what
- 2:13Speaker 1: you do. And I appreciate you having me on because
- 2:15Speaker 1: I get to tell my story and inspire other people
- 2:17Speaker 1: to do it, because I don't want to be the
- 2:18Speaker 1: only one to kitchen. Absolutely, absolutely, And the great thing
- 2:21Speaker 1: about it is that our relationship is over ten years
- 2:23Speaker 1: old and but we don't look at that's the good thing.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Guess what life is good for both of us. But
- 2:31Speaker 1: I think they they think that's health because we're happy
- 2:33Speaker 1: people and we don't allow we don't stay in stressful
- 2:36Speaker 1: situations and a lot of people do that. They're just
- 2:38Speaker 1: hanging there was bothering them, and they let they bother
- 2:42Speaker 1: bothering situations. Just take control of their lives and their
- 2:45Speaker 1: decision makings. And guess what they distressed. Grumpy people are
- 2:49Speaker 1: good people don't want to hang around them. Yeah, And it.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Worry will affect you mentally, physically, emotionally. You can you
- 2:55Speaker 1: can look at people and tell when they're wearing their worry.
- 2:58Speaker 1: So we don't have time for that. Can't make time
- 3:01Speaker 1: or space that it was so funny. It was off air,
- 3:03Speaker 1: and I said, let's bring this story on air every Wednesday.
- 3:06Speaker 1: If you can't catch it on the Food Channel, you
- 3:08Speaker 1: can't catch your on the Cooking channel, can't catch your
- 3:10Speaker 1: on some national TV show. Well, every Wednesday she posts
- 3:15Speaker 1: amazing photos, a video, a recipe of something that she's
- 3:19Speaker 1: recommending that easy to cook, easy to prepare, easy to bake,
- 3:24Speaker 1: and one affordable too and affordable. And one time, you know,
- 3:27Speaker 1: you know what time is it going through my Facebook
- 3:30Speaker 1: for you posted what it was like People Magazine? Right, Yes,
- 3:35Speaker 1: that was my debut in People Magazine for the fourth
- 3:38Speaker 1: of July, and they called me out of blue, which
- 3:40Speaker 1: is so crazy, but I mean, people see you out there,
- 3:43Speaker 1: put your stuff out there, people will find you. And
- 3:45Speaker 1: they asked me to do a dessert recipe for the
- 3:48Speaker 1: fourth of July. So I did my ice cream sandwich
- 3:51Speaker 1: canpies and it's the simplest recipe but everybody loved it.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I think because it's so similar and it's ingredient you
- 3:57Speaker 1: having your pantry and your viewers. I mean, they just
- 4:00Speaker 1: loved it. I mean it was just basic pyro pie
- 4:03Speaker 1: dough and that you can buy in the store and
- 4:06Speaker 1: whatever jam or juggy you want, and I made it red,
- 4:08Speaker 1: white and blue, and it was just such an honor
- 4:11Speaker 1: to do that, and so many people responded so well.
- 4:13Speaker 1: So I hope everybody made it, and you can still
- 4:16Speaker 1: find it on there, and you can make it for
- 4:17Speaker 1: a Labor Day coming up or any time you want to,
- 4:19Speaker 1: any holiday coming up. And it's just so easy. That's
- 4:24Speaker 1: patted my recipes after being so simple, so easy, so affordable,
- 4:27Speaker 1: Like who has time to waste in the kitchen? I
- 4:30Speaker 1: don't have all day for that. I'm a chef, but
- 4:32Speaker 1: I make food for real people and real recipes. So
- 4:36Speaker 1: it was just such an honesty. So many people loved its.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Nine people, nine thousand people. I went, Okay, you know, Rain,
- 4:50Speaker 1: that's a testament to your brand because people have to
- 4:53Speaker 1: believe that's that's a layer of credibility that comes with
- 4:56Speaker 1: those lights. You know, they've seen your brand, You've been consistent,
- 4:59Speaker 1: and that's what I love about when we talk about
- 5:01Speaker 1: coming on the show, I asked you to do me
- 5:03Speaker 1: your favorite. So what you love? I said, I love
- 5:05Speaker 1: the sponsor or promote a post about food. I said,
- 5:08Speaker 1: every Wednesday, I'm giving you a slot. You give me
- 5:11Speaker 1: what recipe you want. And I posted, So every Wednesday
- 5:13Speaker 1: she post. And that's just a byproduct of that consistency. Bam,
- 5:17Speaker 1: you go. Wow, it's worth. It was worth, And I
- 5:20Speaker 1: love the comments to people have such great comments and
- 5:22Speaker 1: they tag other people like you need to make this
- 5:24Speaker 1: for me or I'm making this for you this weekend.
- 5:27Speaker 1: So it really does build a whole family of everybody
- 5:30Speaker 1: enjoying good food. I still love that. You know, it
- 5:33Speaker 1: was interesting about summertime. It's always uh tied to barbecue,
- 5:38Speaker 1: and it's a it's a kind of annoying because I
- 5:41Speaker 1: eat barbecue yere in. So I'm trying to figure out,
- 5:44Speaker 1: you know, you know, because people all got the great
- 5:47Speaker 1: barbecue recipe or something great. Okay, but I can eat
- 5:49Speaker 1: barbecue anytime, anywhere, and when bob a warm and you
- 5:53Speaker 1: don't know what the weather's gonna be, that girl any time, right,
- 5:57Speaker 1: So I'm trying to figure out, how does a food
- 6:00Speaker 1: that you eat year round only gets celebrated in the summer.
- 6:04Speaker 1: It's almost like it's just an easy way to sell it.
- 6:08Speaker 1: But I mean, growing up the South, I mean we
- 6:10Speaker 1: barbered you year round. It doesn't matter if it is
- 6:13Speaker 1: in the winter. You can still put that girl. But
- 6:15Speaker 1: you know what the way things are now, I mean
- 6:18Speaker 1: you can have indoor grills. You can find I have
- 6:20Speaker 1: a lot of recipes that are for the grill, but
- 6:23Speaker 1: you can also put them in the oven. I mean,
- 6:25Speaker 1: some people feel it's a sin to put some barbecue
- 6:27Speaker 1: ribs in the oven. It's as long as they taste
- 6:29Speaker 1: good and they're tender, does it really matter. I don't
- 6:32Speaker 1: think so. But I mean it's it's just something about
- 6:35Speaker 1: the summer and grilling. But I mean, the grill just
- 6:37Speaker 1: brings people together. You smell that grill down the street
- 6:40Speaker 1: and you know I'm going to their house because they're
- 6:42Speaker 1: cooking something good. And I love to do. I have
- 6:44Speaker 1: so many barbecue recipes, and I will say that I
- 6:47Speaker 1: I do have some real skills on the grill. I've
- 6:50Speaker 1: developers over time, and I do not give up my sekrets.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I love the way she was talking this years to
- 6:57Speaker 1: step back and okay, check yourself. Ah this is what
- 7:01Speaker 1: I do. Don't let the don't let the chelf and
- 7:03Speaker 1: the TV station fool you. I got skills when I
- 7:07Speaker 1: agree with now absolutely, And ladies, we can be cute
- 7:10Speaker 1: on the grill. Don't believe that that only the guys
- 7:13Speaker 1: can grill. We can do our things too, So I
- 7:15Speaker 1: encourage all the ladies, pretty ladies out on the grill
- 7:18Speaker 1: any time of year. Do your thing. There you go.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Now let's talk about some projects, because we're gonna go
- 7:22Speaker 1: back and forth, because this is a friend talking to
- 7:24Speaker 1: a friend, relationship talking to a relationship on money making conversations.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Um every Wednesday coming up in the fall. Now you're
- 7:31Speaker 1: gonna make a regular appearance on Doctor Oz. Yes. Now,
- 7:36Speaker 1: we did it all last season and Dr Oz is
- 7:38Speaker 1: so gracious and everybody loves Dr oz Um he's asked
- 7:42Speaker 1: me to come back every Wednesday. We take over the
- 7:45Speaker 1: last thirty minutes of his show. And it's called the
- 7:47Speaker 1: Dish on Oz and it's myself, it's her, his daughter, Daphne,
- 7:51Speaker 1: she's a part of as well, and we just have
- 7:54Speaker 1: fun in the kitchen. We give you great recipes and
- 7:56Speaker 1: they're not all just healthy. And don't think that Dr
- 7:59Speaker 1: Oz is like, oh, it's got to be some killing
- 8:01Speaker 1: and it's got to be healthy. He just enjoys good
- 8:04Speaker 1: food and so I give him all of that. We
- 8:06Speaker 1: have cocktails, we laugh, we talk. It's so much, so
- 8:09Speaker 1: much fun and you just kind of let your hair
- 8:12Speaker 1: down and you just come to the table. So I
- 8:14Speaker 1: encourage everybody this fall. You have to check it out
- 8:17Speaker 1: d v RT. If you're at work, watch it on
- 8:19Speaker 1: your phone, do whatever you have to do with Every Wednesday.
- 8:21Speaker 1: You can see me there just dancing, having a good time.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I love that audience. I just love being out there.
- 8:27Speaker 1: It's interesting by doctor Oz because you know, you're the
- 8:30Speaker 1: word doctor. He's built a career on being a medical expert.
- 8:34Speaker 1: And you've seen this show evolved the last few year.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Is evolved to a lifestyle show. A lifestyle show. So
- 8:41Speaker 1: when you get the call to appear old Doctors, what
- 8:44Speaker 1: were the first thought? Was that healthy concept running through
- 8:48Speaker 1: your mind? Or when when you got the call to
- 8:50Speaker 1: do doctors before you realize you know something, I can
- 8:52Speaker 1: just be me and you know what, that's exactly what
- 8:55Speaker 1: it is. Because I'm a classically trained chef. I mean,
- 8:58Speaker 1: I'm traveled all over the world and I've cooked all
- 9:01Speaker 1: over the world. So when I got the call, I
- 9:03Speaker 1: was like, Okay, now the world can just see what
- 9:06Speaker 1: a different type of chef looks like. I don't dress
- 9:09Speaker 1: like what I don't. I don't feel like when people
- 9:12Speaker 1: seem they're like, you're a chef, you don't look like
- 9:13Speaker 1: a chef. What does that look like? I just look
- 9:16Speaker 1: like a woman that love to have fun in the
- 9:17Speaker 1: kitchen and give people good food. So when they said
- 9:20Speaker 1: we want you to bring your perspective to the kitchen
- 9:23Speaker 1: and bring your your career beyond slaver and your southern
- 9:26Speaker 1: dishes and just bring the party, I'm like, that is
- 9:29Speaker 1: exactly what I want to do. And the party doesn't
- 9:31Speaker 1: always have to be deep fried and smother than eathing.
- 9:34Speaker 1: You can have a party and keep it light and
- 9:36Speaker 1: cute and fun, and then we can go for the
- 9:37Speaker 1: comfort food. So I love to give people just a
- 9:40Speaker 1: wide range and always pair something with a fun cocktail
- 9:43Speaker 1: on mocktail, because you know, it's always a party when
- 9:45Speaker 1: you have a good drink in your hand. So I
- 9:47Speaker 1: just love to just I'm the party. I am the
- 9:49Speaker 1: life of the party, and I'm My motto is life
- 9:52Speaker 1: is a party. So you have to live it like one.
- 9:55Speaker 1: So that's just what I bring every Wednesday. We know.
- 9:57Speaker 1: The fun part about hearing you that's a that's a
- 10:01Speaker 1: brand as a talent. You know, I can hear your
- 10:03Speaker 1: boss is so much stronger, so much more detail. And
- 10:06Speaker 1: because you know, opportunities to keep coming anyway, because we
- 10:09Speaker 1: all know we're just trying to get in the lane.
- 10:11Speaker 1: We're just trying to get out there. Yes, and then
- 10:14Speaker 1: when you start getting a Doctors, you get a People magazine,
- 10:17Speaker 1: it starts giving you the confidence. Okay, I am. People
- 10:20Speaker 1: are recognizing that what I do is a reality because
- 10:24Speaker 1: we all have dreams. And that's the thing. People they
- 10:27Speaker 1: only see me with the Doctors and the People magazine
- 10:29Speaker 1: and like, oh, I want to do that too, But
- 10:31Speaker 1: they didn't see me starting out as an intern at
- 10:34Speaker 1: hotels in Atlanta and want to culinary school and in
- 10:37Speaker 1: the trenches, stand up late and catering parties as a
- 10:40Speaker 1: one woman caterer for parties of people of a hundred
- 10:43Speaker 1: and two people because I couldn't afford the staff. So
- 10:46Speaker 1: you gotta everybody starts at one place and then you
- 10:49Speaker 1: just continue to go and grow, and that's how you
- 10:52Speaker 1: know you're doing the right thing because the money and
- 10:55Speaker 1: the fame and the accolades that comes last. So if
- 10:58Speaker 1: you're trying to do it for that, you're you're already
- 11:01Speaker 1: losing the race. But I started and I continued to
- 11:04Speaker 1: it because I just love feeding people and I just
- 11:07Speaker 1: love seeing people smile when my food shows up, when
- 11:11Speaker 1: I show up or anything, or they say I major
- 11:13Speaker 1: when your recipes, and my family love it, like I
- 11:16Speaker 1: just love feeding people. So that's why I do it
- 11:18Speaker 1: every day. So you have to connect yourself to whatever
- 11:21Speaker 1: your purposes or something that you will do it every
- 11:23Speaker 1: single day just because you love doing it. And all
- 11:26Speaker 1: the other rewards everything comes after the fact that you
- 11:29Speaker 1: you once you put it out there. But we do
- 11:32Speaker 1: it everybody. We're talking to the Chef Jamiko. You're listening
- 11:35Speaker 1: to Money Making Conversation. Will be back. I need to
- 11:37Speaker 1: know about some juicy sliders. I need to nobody grilling
- 11:40Speaker 1: in the food. And we've got some TV shows that
- 11:42Speaker 1: we've got to promote that's happening in the fall. More
- 11:44Speaker 1: with Chef Jamika. You're listening to the Money Making Conversation.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I'm your host with Sean McDonald. Hi, this is Rashan McDonald.
- 11:55Speaker 1: You're listening to money making conversation, your show, and I said,
- 11:58Speaker 1: one more time, your show a show that I created.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I got great producers. I don't do this show by myself,
- 12:03Speaker 1: like people who will help me book to show how
- 12:05Speaker 1: people who helped me produce the show. I have people
- 12:08Speaker 1: who correct me when I make a mistake, because guess what,
- 12:12Speaker 1: I make mistakes on this show. And they said, with Sean,
- 12:14Speaker 1: you shouldn't have said that you should You should start
- 12:16Speaker 1: your show like this, And all those notes, all those
- 12:20Speaker 1: moments helped me become a better host, a better provider
- 12:24Speaker 1: of information to people who listen to money making conversation.
- 12:26Speaker 1: And basically, I'm letting you know no one is too
- 12:29Speaker 1: old or too big to not be criticized or take
- 12:33Speaker 1: a note to make you better. That's an ego. Slide
- 12:36Speaker 1: your ego to the right, slide to the left. Accept
- 12:39Speaker 1: the responsibility that you can learn more if you accept more.
- 12:43Speaker 1: That's why I am who I am today. That's why
- 12:46Speaker 1: people come to my show because they're letting you know
- 12:49Speaker 1: the leap from the start to the end, or the
- 12:51Speaker 1: start to the middle of the start, and you're still
- 12:53Speaker 1: at the beginning. It's gonna be a journey and those
- 12:56Speaker 1: journeys have to be told, and you have to hear
- 12:59Speaker 1: them to know that. Guess what one year later, two
- 13:02Speaker 1: years later, you might think that the ship has passed
- 13:04Speaker 1: you by. That is not the case. The ship will
- 13:07Speaker 1: never pass you by if you don't give up on
- 13:09Speaker 1: the ship or the dream or put a plant in place.
- 13:12Speaker 1: That's when key you have to put a plan in place.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I guess she's on the phone again. She's back. Her
- 13:17Speaker 1: voice is silky smooth to day. Like I said earlier.
- 13:20Speaker 1: You know, you know she's not the chef with the
- 13:22Speaker 1: big hat in the restaurant. Come out there, look like
- 13:25Speaker 1: they're conducting surgery back there on meat. That's not her.
- 13:29Speaker 1: She got she got swag as they say, she has
- 13:31Speaker 1: stopped like they say she has a lettle jam like.
- 13:34Speaker 1: They say, please, welcome to the show again, Chef Jamika. Yes,
- 13:39Speaker 1: And and everybody's like, oh, well, you know it's so funny.
- 13:42Speaker 1: People say, oh, well you're chef. What restaurants you work at?
- 13:45Speaker 1: What restaurant? I'm like, you don't have to own a
- 13:47Speaker 1: restaurant to be a show because I'm like Drake, I
- 13:49Speaker 1: did it without one. I became a TV person, oelit
- 13:53Speaker 1: and TV host. I didn't have the big restaurant or
- 13:56Speaker 1: or the James Beards Awards. You don't have to have
- 13:59Speaker 1: any of that. And don't let about telling you have
- 14:00Speaker 1: to start with that in order to get to a
- 14:02Speaker 1: certain place. We are doing it with all just who
- 14:05Speaker 1: we are and what I have to offer, and that's it.
- 14:07Speaker 1: So I just I just thought how your show just
- 14:10Speaker 1: puts things in perspective for people. You take what you
- 14:12Speaker 1: got and you run with whatever it is you got.
- 14:14Speaker 1: You don't need all those other things, and I personally
- 14:17Speaker 1: have done that, and and it just allows me to
- 14:19Speaker 1: uh it. Really, I would just tell you this, chef
- 14:21Speaker 1: to because this show has been an lightning show for
- 14:24Speaker 1: me about what I've accomplished and the people that I
- 14:27Speaker 1: have affected over the years that I didn't realize because
- 14:30Speaker 1: I was just racing and people ask before advice. I
- 14:32Speaker 1: give me advice and they go, wow, thank you. And
- 14:35Speaker 1: then because I'm I'm gonna pretty straight for a guy,
- 14:37Speaker 1: if you come to me, I'm gonna say don't do that.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna say why are you doing that? I'll say
- 14:41Speaker 1: stop that. I will not because I'm not trying to
- 14:43Speaker 1: make money off of you. So my decisions that all
- 14:45Speaker 1: opinions I give to you are never driven by income
- 14:48Speaker 1: and driven by fact and driven by experience, and that's
- 14:53Speaker 1: really important. So when I look at what you're accomplished
- 14:55Speaker 1: in your career and the journey we've had together, as
- 14:58Speaker 1: as as people allowing me to produce, you allowing you
- 15:02Speaker 1: to come on the show and give advice. But it
- 15:05Speaker 1: all comes back to food now. Food now, the thing
- 15:09Speaker 1: has really started to pop off really strong that I've
- 15:12Speaker 1: started eating is grilled fruits. And then I missed a
- 15:16Speaker 1: boat on the grill food, real food. What do you know?
- 15:19Speaker 1: What you have? You never com miss a boat because
- 15:21Speaker 1: is what you started whenever you want to. But I
- 15:24Speaker 1: kind of look at grilled fruit as it's people been
- 15:26Speaker 1: sleeping on it for way too long, and then like
- 15:29Speaker 1: grill fruit, what I want to cook for fruit for?
- 15:31Speaker 1: You are missing your life if you do not know
- 15:34Speaker 1: what the taste of a fresh like ripe pineapple or
- 15:38Speaker 1: a mango or watermelon with some charred grilled marks on it,
- 15:41Speaker 1: so it's smoky. When you put some heat to fruit,
- 15:44Speaker 1: it brings out the natural sweetness in it, so it's
- 15:47Speaker 1: even sweeter than what you you purchased it from. I mean,
- 15:50Speaker 1: it just takes everything you do to another level. So
- 15:53Speaker 1: when I'm sitting on my buffet and anything like that,
- 15:56Speaker 1: I feel like grill fruit to me is the new tomato.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I don't garnish my burgers sandwiches with a regular tomato
- 16:01Speaker 1: or pickle. I use grill peaches and grill pears and
- 16:05Speaker 1: grilled pineapples like it just brings this salty and and sweet,
- 16:09Speaker 1: kind of savory and sweet kind of world to it
- 16:12Speaker 1: that is just out of this world. You better get
- 16:14Speaker 1: on board. If you don't know what you're what you're missing, Well,
- 16:16Speaker 1: I'm missing. I had to bring that up because I
- 16:18Speaker 1: guess because you know, I got the grill pineapple. I've
- 16:21Speaker 1: had that, you know, but I'd like to strawberries, grow watermelon,
- 16:26Speaker 1: grill peaches, um, grill pears Like I mean, that is
- 16:29Speaker 1: it takes things to new heights when you start just
- 16:32Speaker 1: grilling things you didn't even think you could grill. Okay,
- 16:34Speaker 1: I got I got to time left because I gotta.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I don't want to. I definitely want to give you
- 16:38Speaker 1: time to talk about two projects that I always have
- 16:41Speaker 1: a good time as Guy's Grocery Games. Don't you just
- 16:43Speaker 1: glove that show? Just yelling at the TV, like how
- 16:46Speaker 1: you haven't pay it up? I love judging that show.
- 16:49Speaker 1: I mean, it's so much fun you watch on TV,
- 16:51Speaker 1: but it's so much more fun and just being in
- 16:53Speaker 1: the actual grocery store. And it's such an honor to
- 16:56Speaker 1: be asked to be a judge. So September eighteens, I'll
- 16:59Speaker 1: be on as a judge for Guys Grocery Games and
- 17:02Speaker 1: the episode is actually honoring the Califier California Firefighters, really
- 17:07Speaker 1: given honor to first responders. It was just such a
- 17:09Speaker 1: pleasure being in the midst of all of them. And
- 17:12Speaker 1: then also on Food Network and everybody Halloween is coming
- 17:16Speaker 1: to Halloween. Let's talk about grocery and it's the Gingerbread
- 17:20Speaker 1: Showdown and this is the second season and I had
- 17:23Speaker 1: so much fun during the last season as a judge.
- 17:25Speaker 1: And if you didn't see it last year, you better
- 17:27Speaker 1: catch on one because it takes everything that you love
- 17:30Speaker 1: about Halloween, the gore, the just the fun and it's
- 17:34Speaker 1: the excitement of it. And they artists translate everything through Gingerbread,
- 17:39Speaker 1: so they just bring these themes to light. And every
- 17:42Speaker 1: episode is centered around a classic eighties horror movie. So
- 17:45Speaker 1: if you are eighties. Baby, this is your season because
- 17:48Speaker 1: it's so much fun to see some of your favorite movies,
- 17:50Speaker 1: like Wow, I can't believe they did that, and it's
- 17:52Speaker 1: all with gingerbread. And then at the end I get
- 17:55Speaker 1: to give away as one of the the judges, giveaway twin dollars.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Give it away now see you. I was I wanted
- 18:03Speaker 1: to bring back you. You just hear me say Jeff
- 18:05Speaker 1: Dimico when you're talking about God's grocery games, because that
- 18:08Speaker 1: game is such a natural to me because I do
- 18:10Speaker 1: it every time I go in the grocery store. And
- 18:12Speaker 1: you kind of do it, racing around and you're like, wait, woman, cook,
- 18:15Speaker 1: what don't we do? The clock is racing and then
- 18:17Speaker 1: you look you like, wait minute, I don't have the
- 18:19Speaker 1: money for all of this. You gotta put stuff back.
- 18:20Speaker 1: And it's just so crazy, like you know you're going
- 18:23Speaker 1: And that's why that's why it's such a popular show,
- 18:25Speaker 1: because we all do it. We're going the grocery store going, okay,
- 18:27Speaker 1: I want to make Lazagno, I don't want to make
- 18:29Speaker 1: I want to bake a cake. And you go down
- 18:30Speaker 1: these aisles and and go off the bid that you
- 18:34Speaker 1: forget something that you thought your head at the house.
- 18:37Speaker 1: You get to the house and it's not there. Suddenly
- 18:39Speaker 1: you gotta well just say kind of like, uh, mix
- 18:43Speaker 1: up or make it work? You make it work? To
- 18:46Speaker 1: make it work? Will grocery deliver to pick up? They
- 18:50Speaker 1: don't know what it's like to push a cart through
- 18:52Speaker 1: the grocery store like that. People are missing that arn't
- 18:55Speaker 1: form now. So just to go through the store and
- 18:58Speaker 1: see these contestants, they got so much heart and think
- 19:01Speaker 1: about it because everybody says on the account saying, or
- 19:02Speaker 1: I could do that, I can make a burger, but
- 19:04Speaker 1: you have the clock racing against You have to whatever
- 19:07Speaker 1: the game is that guy throws at you, and he
- 19:09Speaker 1: comes up with the wackiest game. The tension of the
- 19:11Speaker 1: cameras in the lighting and the judges yelling hurry up
- 19:14Speaker 1: and get this, Like what would you do in that moment?
- 19:17Speaker 1: Would you actually even produce anything on the plate. So
- 19:19Speaker 1: I tell everybody, if you want to talk trash, submit
- 19:21Speaker 1: yourself for the show because they're always looking for new people.
- 19:24Speaker 1: But it's just an adrenaline rush like no other new people.
- 19:29Speaker 1: And I get to taste and tell people what the
- 19:31Speaker 1: great things about everything they did. So I love my job.
- 19:34Speaker 1: New people who can cook, new people who can make.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Just don't go there just to just be shopping, going
- 19:39Speaker 1: in there trying to make some sloppy Joes. This is
- 19:41Speaker 1: not the TV show the best sloppy Joe anyone who's
- 19:46Speaker 1: ever tasted in that light and also hope that that's
- 19:48Speaker 1: what they ask for, Like, you know what, I ran
- 19:52Speaker 1: out of time, So I just made a shoppy show.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Like what do you think? What do you think? What
- 19:56Speaker 1: do you think? Judges? Get him off the show. We
- 20:01Speaker 1: need to find the tale. I will find it. Let
- 20:03Speaker 1: me say, I will find a nice way to tell
- 20:05Speaker 1: you about your sloppy Joe and then tell you the
- 20:07Speaker 1: exit left. But as a judge, I have to tell
- 20:09Speaker 1: you the good and the bad. But I'll tell you
- 20:12Speaker 1: how much I appreciate you coming through to do that. Now,
- 20:15Speaker 1: you're also doing something based in Atlanta. You're doing something
- 20:18Speaker 1: as a celebrity with some type of catering service that
- 20:21Speaker 1: you're catering that you're building that out more in the
- 20:24Speaker 1: city of Atlanta. Well, you know, I started catering in Atlanta,
- 20:28Speaker 1: and I was catering for like different celebrities and athletes
- 20:31Speaker 1: and doing events. But the thing is now that TV
- 20:34Speaker 1: has taken off and I'm traveling so much, I really
- 20:37Speaker 1: don't even have the chance to do the catering like
- 20:39Speaker 1: I used to. So when people email me like, oh,
- 20:42Speaker 1: can you do my wet and I'm like, well, that
- 20:44Speaker 1: day I got to do good more in America, I
- 20:45Speaker 1: can't do you wed, but I'd love it. I mean,
- 20:48Speaker 1: it's just such a blessing to start in one place
- 20:51Speaker 1: with my business that I built out from the bottom up.
- 20:54Speaker 1: I mean, it was literally a one woman show and
- 20:56Speaker 1: to have so many people call and want me to
- 20:59Speaker 1: cook for their But now it's just it's television just
- 21:02Speaker 1: taken on a world of its own that I don't
- 21:05Speaker 1: even have the time to do it. So I don't
- 21:08Speaker 1: email me and ask any Katie a cousin win because
- 21:10Speaker 1: I can't do it no more. But I mean, it's
- 21:12Speaker 1: just such an honor to still know that people are
- 21:15Speaker 1: looking for that and that's where I started. I never
- 21:17Speaker 1: forget where I started. Also, that would have been closing.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I just want to talk about you know, I don't
- 21:22Speaker 1: even consider it a leap of faith because of the
- 21:24Speaker 1: fact that you had talent. A lot of people have
- 21:26Speaker 1: to understand that when you make a decision like I
- 21:28Speaker 1: quit I be because I was very I was a
- 21:30Speaker 1: very talented comedian, you know, so I knew that if
- 21:34Speaker 1: I just stayed the course and just work hard, I
- 21:36Speaker 1: can make money. And what I did. But you have
- 21:39Speaker 1: a corporate job to pursue your passion of cooking and
- 21:42Speaker 1: leaped into it and that left result and you're becoming
- 21:44Speaker 1: a TV personality. Just talk about that experience a little
- 21:47Speaker 1: bit and share that journey a little bit with my
- 21:49Speaker 1: audience so they can know there are steps to it.
- 21:52Speaker 1: There is it is a leap of faith. But you
- 21:54Speaker 1: were talented. Well, I think it's it's a combination of
- 21:57Speaker 1: a lot of things because I start it out cooking
- 22:01Speaker 1: with my grandmother and I just love just just what's
- 22:04Speaker 1: the the energy and the life that she brought to
- 22:07Speaker 1: the table with her food. And I saw that. But
- 22:10Speaker 1: I know at that time, I never considered it as
- 22:12Speaker 1: a career. It was like, Okay, you gotta be in
- 22:14Speaker 1: an office. She got told a suit you gotta be professional,
- 22:16Speaker 1: like you gotta follow all these rules that somebody else said,
- 22:18Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, I guess this is what I'm
- 22:20Speaker 1: supposed to do after I graduate from college. But in
- 22:23Speaker 1: all actuality. Cooking was the only thing that I was
- 22:27Speaker 1: good at no matter what. And I encourage people to
- 22:30Speaker 1: trying to figure out what to do. Get a sheet
- 22:31Speaker 1: of paper and you write down the things that you're
- 22:34Speaker 1: you you like, the things that you're good at, and
- 22:37Speaker 1: then the things that you're great at. And cooking was like,
- 22:40Speaker 1: even if I tried to fail, it was like, but
- 22:42Speaker 1: it still kind of tastes pretty good like I was.
- 22:44Speaker 1: That was I was just great. And that is your gift,
- 22:46Speaker 1: that is your talent, that's your thing good stuff. That's
- 22:49Speaker 1: kind of like your side or your hustle or I
- 22:52Speaker 1: can do that just because I like to do what
- 22:54Speaker 1: I can do it for free. But what's you're great at?
- 22:56Speaker 1: Like that is the path that you run on. And
- 22:59Speaker 1: it was just all signs lead to food for me
- 23:02Speaker 1: and then getting into entertainment. It was just as I
- 23:05Speaker 1: got my confidence in the kitchen, I realized I don't
- 23:08Speaker 1: want to be so serious in the kitchen. I want
- 23:10Speaker 1: to have some fun and I just let my personality
- 23:13Speaker 1: shine and people just just took to it. So, I mean,
- 23:15Speaker 1: you'll develop how you your your niche over time, but
- 23:20Speaker 1: it's really just sitting out what am I really great
- 23:23Speaker 1: at what do I love doing more than anything? And
- 23:26Speaker 1: you the arrows will lead to that sign. It will
- 23:29Speaker 1: just be like why didn't I think that? It will
- 23:30Speaker 1: come to you and you'll see that. And that's how
- 23:32Speaker 1: I decided to become a chef, just the one thing
- 23:36Speaker 1: I just didn't. Even if I failed, it was still
- 23:39Speaker 1: pretty darned good chef as usual. You're wonderful. Thank you,
- 23:44Speaker 1: And that's like you said. You cook at jown doctor
- 23:47Speaker 1: Os every wednes you post on at Rashaan McDonald's Facebook page.
- 23:51Speaker 1: You keep winning and you know whenever you need something,
- 23:54Speaker 1: when they're making conversation and Rushan McDonald is here for
- 23:56Speaker 1: you
