- 0:20Speaker 1: decision makers. It's what he likes to do, it's what
- 0:23Speaker 1: he likes to share. Now it's time to hear from
- 0:25Speaker 1: my man, Rashan McDonald. Money Making Conversations here we come.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Welcome on to Making Conversation. I'm your host with Sean McDonald.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It's important to understand that everybody travels a different path
- 0:36Speaker 1: to success. That's because your brand is different. The challenges
- 0:39Speaker 1: you face in your life are different. So stop reading
- 0:41Speaker 1: other people's success stories and start writing your own. Now.
- 0:44Speaker 1: You can be motivated by their success because their stories
- 0:46Speaker 1: can offer direction and help you reach your goals through
- 0:49Speaker 1: your planning and committed effort. My next guess is Lamon
- 0:53Speaker 1: Rucker old friend. He's an actor, educated activist, an entrepreneur
- 0:57Speaker 1: whose career platform has used and has been used to influence, educate,
- 1:01Speaker 1: and ignite communities through artistic and academic innovation. Lamon is
- 1:05Speaker 1: starting in a new Christmas movie on their Own network
- 1:08Speaker 1: entitled Cooking Up Christmas. He plays a professional baseball player,
- 1:12Speaker 1: Donovan Jackson, who was a single dad of three and
- 1:14Speaker 1: even a living chef to get him through the holidays
- 1:17Speaker 1: with the kids. The chef role is played by Megan Holder.
- 1:20Speaker 1: She starts as an Atlanta based chef at a fine
- 1:23Speaker 1: dining restaurant who gets fired just weeks before Christmas, and
- 1:26Speaker 1: reluctantly the takes this job off her. Cooking Up Christmas
- 1:29Speaker 1: premieres Tuesday, December fifteen and nine pm Eastern on Own.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Please welcome to my moneymaking Conversation show, My man, Lamar Rocker. Man,
- 1:40Speaker 1: what's good? Thanks for having me man? Well, you know,
- 1:44Speaker 1: you know, we we we we we have said with agreedlea.
- 1:46Speaker 1: We've been talking a lot for the last couple of years.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Has been very very good to the Rocker Halsehold has
- 1:57Speaker 1: been yeah, yeah, yeah, and I would I would love
- 1:59Speaker 1: to say, and vice versa. You know what I mean.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I try to try to be an asset everywhere I go.
- 2:04Speaker 1: So absolutely blessed and thankful, grateful to the Own lions Gate,
- 2:10Speaker 1: Harpo family for um UM for believing in me and
- 2:15Speaker 1: seeing the value that I can bring to UH, to
- 2:17Speaker 1: the work that they're creating. And I'm incredibly excited. I
- 2:21Speaker 1: think this is literally just the tippity Iceberg. I would
- 2:23Speaker 1: love to continue to do some some wonderful things in that,
- 2:27Speaker 1: you know, in that family of of of allies, you know,
- 2:31Speaker 1: so shout out to Discovery UM, you know as well. Man,
- 2:35Speaker 1: you know everybody involved, So don't be surprised, man, I'm
- 2:38Speaker 1: you know, hopefully be on some that geo stuff and
- 2:42Speaker 1: everything else. I'm like, you know, some cooking shows. You
- 2:46Speaker 1: might be building houses and gardening and who knows what,
- 2:49Speaker 1: like whatever, whatever. Don't don't get me excited that lament
- 2:53Speaker 1: because you know, relationships financial, you know, planning and travel
- 2:58Speaker 1: and like let's let's do it. Let's well, you know,
- 3:00Speaker 1: that's that's what we kind of say it off area
- 3:02Speaker 1: because our relationship goes way back, man. You know any
- 3:04Speaker 1: time I we've been on panels together for the Black
- 3:08Speaker 1: Back Black UH Movie Festival here in Atlanta, when I'd
- 3:12Speaker 1: asked you to come down to Disney for the Disney Dreamers.
- 3:15Speaker 1: You've always been a person who had value in conversation,
- 3:20Speaker 1: value and effort. You know, it was a lot of
- 3:22Speaker 1: people they say they do you do what you say?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Why is that important to you and your brand and
- 3:27Speaker 1: why it's important to educate young people moving forward? Yeah, well,
- 3:32Speaker 1: I think the most important thing is is where is
- 3:34Speaker 1: the last part of that question is it's the value.
- 3:36Speaker 1: It's it's your value and your understanding of your responsibility
- 3:42Speaker 1: to serve, you know, serve young people, serve peers. I mean,
- 3:46Speaker 1: you know, you and I serve one another. We love
- 3:48Speaker 1: and support and encourage and empowering up lift each other. Um,
- 3:52Speaker 1: you know that the branding is completely secondary. I believe
- 3:56Speaker 1: if you're doing what you're supposed to be doing, if
- 3:58Speaker 1: you're being who you're supposed to be, if you're walking
- 4:01Speaker 1: and living and your love and your life on a
- 4:03Speaker 1: regular basis, your brand will be shaped around you, not
- 4:08Speaker 1: you having to try to be something you're not just
- 4:11Speaker 1: because it's gonna sell or look good or profit you
- 4:15Speaker 1: in some way. So I do my best to work
- 4:17Speaker 1: from the inside out, not the outside in. And that's
- 4:21Speaker 1: been my walk to just be authentic to who I am,
- 4:24Speaker 1: to use my voice, um, you know, to speak for truth,
- 4:28Speaker 1: to speak to equality to speak to education and um,
- 4:33Speaker 1: you know, empowerment and equality for all people. So in
- 4:37Speaker 1: all the various ways that I try to do that, Um,
- 4:40Speaker 1: that's really what's important to me. And I think that's
- 4:42Speaker 1: important for everybody to find and identify what their walk
- 4:46Speaker 1: is and how their voices and how they fight for
- 4:52Speaker 1: faith and how they fight for fulfillment and uh, and
- 4:57Speaker 1: how they fight for freedom well as awesome when when
- 5:00Speaker 1: I look at our relationship and look at your you know,
- 5:02Speaker 1: your producer you know, and uh, actors. Sometimes a lot
- 5:07Speaker 1: of people look at an actor said, that's all they
- 5:09Speaker 1: do is act. But you've been an entrepreneur in my life.
- 5:12Speaker 1: You've been an activist in my life. Now this movie here,
- 5:15Speaker 1: we know pandemic has been raging this year and you
- 5:18Speaker 1: just came off the very successful series green Leaf. How
- 5:22Speaker 1: is that? You know, we always want to be involved
- 5:24Speaker 1: with projects that are special to me. That felt like
- 5:27Speaker 1: a very special series. And you know you've done a
- 5:30Speaker 1: lot of significant work. Don't don't get me wrong, you know,
- 5:32Speaker 1: because I know your resume. But how whether that onether
- 5:36Speaker 1: that that relationship with that series landing your career? Oh man,
- 5:41Speaker 1: it's what's what you just gave me chills because uh,
- 5:44Speaker 1: and I just became aware of the chill right as
- 5:47Speaker 1: I was about to open my mouth. But uh, it's
- 5:51Speaker 1: real deep how you know what life uh not just
- 5:56Speaker 1: does for you, but what it does in you. And
- 6:00Speaker 1: and I found a very very poetic timing, if you will,
- 6:05Speaker 1: with the work that has uh come my way and
- 6:10Speaker 1: the work that I've chosen to do. This isn't just
- 6:13Speaker 1: somebody plucking you and saying I like you, I want
- 6:16Speaker 1: you and then you just say you know, it's a
- 6:19Speaker 1: relationship and it's an agreement to say, Okay, you want
- 6:24Speaker 1: me to be there, and you think I'm your guy,
- 6:27Speaker 1: let me make sure i'm your guy because if I
- 6:29Speaker 1: say yes, I've got work to do. I've got a
- 6:32Speaker 1: duty to you, I've got an obligation to you. But
- 6:35Speaker 1: I want to have fun with you. I want us
- 6:37Speaker 1: to do something profound and I want to be able
- 6:40Speaker 1: to authentically bring myself, bring my gift, bring my voice
- 6:44Speaker 1: to you to elevate what we're gonna do together. And
- 6:48Speaker 1: that um the timing of green leaf, uh and even
- 6:53Speaker 1: my own personal wife of faith, of fatherhood, of husbandhood,
- 6:58Speaker 1: of you know, brother hood, UM whatever a service UM
- 7:04Speaker 1: really had a really interesting actually contrast in many ways,
- 7:09Speaker 1: but also an interesting parallel to Jacob's you know, um life,
- 7:15Speaker 1: to Jacob's walk, to his process of self discovery, um
- 7:20Speaker 1: you know, him trying to figure out who he is
- 7:24Speaker 1: and what he is and how to you know, create
- 7:27Speaker 1: his own identity aside from you know, all these other
- 7:32Speaker 1: people in this family. Family. But it ain't no small
- 7:36Speaker 1: you know, and it's and as regular as we are,
- 7:40Speaker 1: which is what we all made a commitment to do,
- 7:41Speaker 1: is like no, no, no no, We're gonna show that this
- 7:44Speaker 1: this family is real regularly are normal, regular folks. I
- 7:47Speaker 1: got regular, real stuff like any other family. Let's focus
- 7:50Speaker 1: on that. You know, if we focused on that, all
- 7:53Speaker 1: the other fabulousness about us, you know, we'll just be
- 7:56Speaker 1: icing on the cake. But let's be the cake, not
- 7:58Speaker 1: the icing, you know what I'm saying, Not just trying
- 8:00Speaker 1: to be the little fancy, cute sweet cherry on top.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Let's be you know, let's give this some real density
- 8:07Speaker 1: and structure and flavor and you know, really let it.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Let this be a rich moist gate that you want
- 8:15Speaker 1: more and more and more of. So that it was
- 8:17Speaker 1: a lot of fun doing that, and it was a
- 8:20Speaker 1: great character exploration. Wonderful to play somebody who I believe
- 8:26Speaker 1: was a really magnificent example of the beauty and brilliance
- 8:31Speaker 1: of black family and even of a black man, to
- 8:35Speaker 1: show that even in his flaws, and however he might
- 8:39Speaker 1: screw up the time of time and make poor decisions,
- 8:44Speaker 1: at his core, Um, you saw how you know, you
- 8:49Speaker 1: you saw how incredibly wonderful he was, and you were
- 8:52Speaker 1: praying for him and um, hoping that he would succeed,
- 8:57Speaker 1: and and knowing that he wanted to do better, and
- 9:01Speaker 1: you wanted what he wanted for him. Actually you wanted
- 9:03Speaker 1: more than he may have even wanted for himself. And
- 9:05Speaker 1: that's so very true. That's true, very true. And then
- 9:08Speaker 1: watch him go through it was the fun of it.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Most of the time we've got we keep these you know,
- 9:14Speaker 1: barricades up, or we put these facades up so you
- 9:17Speaker 1: can't really see the truth. And I tried at least
- 9:19Speaker 1: let us do this and at some point remove that
- 9:22Speaker 1: veil altogether and really let people kind of see the heart.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Um uh, you know, in the trials and tribulations. That's
- 9:29Speaker 1: why I love that character for you, Lamar, That's why
- 9:31Speaker 1: I love that character for you, because, like I said,
- 9:34Speaker 1: I'm mad. I get mad. I got mad at you. Okay,
- 9:37Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, right, you know what I'm saying.
- 9:39Speaker 1: You walk into Harvard, you know, you know, apartment with
- 9:41Speaker 1: this chick. Come on, come on, loan, I'm talking to
- 9:44Speaker 1: the screen. I'm talking to Saxa exactly. Stop. Stop. That's
- 9:48Speaker 1: what too. Man. There's so many men, you know. It's
- 9:50Speaker 1: been great that on occasies like you know, they like
- 9:54Speaker 1: of course the dominant fan base of women around the
- 9:57Speaker 1: world is great, you know, but to have you know,
- 10:01Speaker 1: a very equitable admiration and respect and appreciation of the
- 10:05Speaker 1: men you know around the world, not just brothers and
- 10:08Speaker 1: black men especially, you know, but even to have them
- 10:12Speaker 1: roll up and be like, hey, hey bro, I appreciate you. Man,
- 10:16Speaker 1: you know, yelling at you from across the street. I
- 10:19Speaker 1: see you dog, keep doing what you think you know,
- 10:23Speaker 1: but whatever, just all flow down. Stop man, full up.
- 10:30Speaker 1: I think I've got countless warning from don't do it.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Wait you know, things like that. Absolutely, you know what
- 10:39Speaker 1: I mean. And you need to handle that little girl. Man,
- 10:42Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like, hey, girls, ain't no joke.
- 10:44Speaker 1: It's tough in so many ways that Jacob uh, you know,
- 10:48Speaker 1: so many other men identified with him, and I thought
- 10:52Speaker 1: it was aporting me a lot of pride to tell
- 10:54Speaker 1: the truth in that way and for that the resonation.
- 10:56Speaker 1: And then I thought port lamar on their character because
- 10:58Speaker 1: you know, a daughter and the okay and so and
- 11:02Speaker 1: that that that role that you played, that male figure,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and we all know how that plays out in the
- 11:07Speaker 1: black community. You know, what what is the young lady
- 11:10Speaker 1: think of our dad? What is the right the young
- 11:12Speaker 1: man think of the role of how his dad treated women?
- 11:16Speaker 1: And all those things. You know, it's a really great stories.
- 11:19Speaker 1: You know, I hope people go and created and executed
- 11:24Speaker 1: scial out to you know, uh to to Craig Right
- 11:29Speaker 1: and and Oprah and Clement Virgo as well in particular
- 11:33Speaker 1: Chris turn of Towns and you know all the other
- 11:35Speaker 1: people that we've got, um again writing stories are incredible
- 11:40Speaker 1: writing team, all of our other directors and of course
- 11:42Speaker 1: you know my acting, you know, my other peers on screen.
- 11:47Speaker 1: But there's so many countless people that were involved in
- 11:50Speaker 1: telling that story. Um. But yeah, just the creation of it,
- 11:55Speaker 1: support behind it and uh, cinematograph. I mean, it's just
- 11:58Speaker 1: it's such a beautiful old piece of piece of art
- 12:02Speaker 1: you know, lives on. Well, uh, well I think it's
- 12:06Speaker 1: a countless ageless classic. I really do. It definitely is.
- 12:10Speaker 1: And let's go on, just cooking up Christmas here, cooking up.
- 12:13Speaker 1: There's Tuesday December fifty on on at nine pm. You
- 12:17Speaker 1: know it's family. You got some more kids now show.
- 12:21Speaker 1: But you just bite yourself this time. You handsome athletes
- 12:25Speaker 1: got you, that's right, You got all the things that's
- 12:31Speaker 1: just say, be successful. You got you got the beautiful kids,
- 12:34Speaker 1: the house, your successful athlete. But there's no woman now
- 12:38Speaker 1: this ye, you got money, all this stuff that's supposed
- 12:43Speaker 1: to make you whole, right, yes, yes, yes, yes, So
- 12:46Speaker 1: tell us how this movie came on your came on
- 12:48Speaker 1: your desk, and how you are the opportunity presented itself
- 12:51Speaker 1: to you? And did you shoot it during COVID or
- 12:53Speaker 1: before COVID? Indeed during COVID. So that was that was
- 12:58Speaker 1: crazy too. I mean, getting tested, temperature checks every day,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and and you know the whole crew and uh, everybody's
- 13:07Speaker 1: got masks and shields and you know what I mean.
- 13:10Speaker 1: And you gotta remember in between takes and after in
- 13:14Speaker 1: between set ups, like oh we put my mask back
- 13:16Speaker 1: on you know, let me wash my hands, I'll let
- 13:18Speaker 1: me do this. And it's you know, and social distancing
- 13:21Speaker 1: and yeah, it was, it was. It was an undertaking,
- 13:24Speaker 1: you know. Um, and I uh it was, it was something.
- 13:29Speaker 1: And I did three projects actually during um, you know,
- 13:34Speaker 1: during during covid um and uh, they were they were
- 13:40Speaker 1: they were different. It was, it was it was quite
- 13:42Speaker 1: a different march. Um. But you know, but this coming about, um,
- 13:46Speaker 1: you know, you know again, shout out again to the
- 13:49Speaker 1: entire uh Oprah family, you know, shout out to the
- 13:52Speaker 1: whole thaige core family, you know, living Hope, um, you know,
- 13:56Speaker 1: everybody in the process and you know, uh on my
- 14:00Speaker 1: team you know as well. And it just ended up
- 14:03Speaker 1: being a great uh, a great match, great marriage. My
- 14:06Speaker 1: man Roger Bob also directed. Yeah that's also that's awesome.
- 14:11Speaker 1: That was icing on the cake the show man actually
- 14:14Speaker 1: speaking of green Lely, Um, Um, what's uh county's last name?
- 14:20Speaker 1: County Psychs Deacon Psychs, you know, played by Jenn Harper Lays.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Jen plays my mother in this film, so okay, you know,
- 14:30Speaker 1: and uh and and my man a lot who also
- 14:34Speaker 1: plays one of our deacons. Uh. He plays Uncle Buck
- 14:37Speaker 1: in the film Your Faces you know um as well
- 14:41Speaker 1: that we're fun and this COVID experience, you know, this experience,
- 14:47Speaker 1: so you can't see people smile. You can't. You know
- 14:51Speaker 1: that you gotta shield. You know, it's really so let's
- 14:54Speaker 1: let's walk us through that, because you know, when COVID
- 14:57Speaker 1: first came out, I tell everybody I was parandoing because
- 14:59Speaker 1: I didn't know, you know, I didn't know how to
- 15:01Speaker 1: go to the grocery store. I didn't know when I
- 15:03Speaker 1: came out of the grocery door. It's finally here, the
- 15:06Speaker 1: season of celebration. And no matter how you celebrate with
- 15:10Speaker 1: family and friends, whether you're preparing for reis magos or

- 17:01Speaker 1: dot AIUT parrel on my hands. Do I throw away
- 17:04Speaker 1: the rubber gloves? And now you come to a set
- 17:08Speaker 1: where you have all these protocols of safety. But then
- 17:12Speaker 1: you also remember you gotta go back home. You gotta
- 17:15Speaker 1: go back home, and and yes, and so how did
- 17:19Speaker 1: you walk through the this? Because I have to put
- 17:21Speaker 1: the word courage in front of your name, Okay, because
- 17:25Speaker 1: this is a courageous action. You know, it's for your craft.
- 17:29Speaker 1: It's also to put food on the table. How it's
- 17:32Speaker 1: a courageous action about you. Let's talk about mentally where
- 17:35Speaker 1: you were at physically you know you could do it.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Put the mental part the challenge and then with the
- 17:41Speaker 1: amount of time that we had to shoot. So you know,
- 17:44Speaker 1: everything now is being so condensed, wanting because you are
- 17:47Speaker 1: also trying to not only minimize costs, but minimize this,
- 17:51Speaker 1: expose your risks and all that. So you're literally working
- 17:54Speaker 1: virtually every day for a month, maybe with one day
- 17:59Speaker 1: off every six you know, seven days or something like that.
- 18:03Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Um, the hours are crazy,
- 18:06Speaker 1: So you've got to take care of your body and
- 18:08Speaker 1: be careful about being fatigued and make sure you're getting
- 18:12Speaker 1: a proper rest and recovery and nutrition, you know, just
- 18:15Speaker 1: so you can do the job let alone. You've got
- 18:17Speaker 1: to be careful not to make yourself vulnerable to getting
- 18:21Speaker 1: you know, yeah, to getting sick because even if you
- 18:23Speaker 1: were to contract anything. And again it's getting chilly, the
- 18:27Speaker 1: season is changing, even screwed up the environment so much
- 18:31Speaker 1: even the animals are confused, you know what I'm saying. So, um,
- 18:35Speaker 1: you've got a lot of things you've got to be
- 18:38Speaker 1: aware of and not trying not to say, be aware
- 18:40Speaker 1: of instead aware of and so as courageous a walk
- 18:45Speaker 1: it is if you're if you're comfortable, if you create confidence,
- 18:51Speaker 1: um in yourself and how you are going about things,
- 18:55Speaker 1: doing the best you can and being disciplined and consistent,
- 18:59Speaker 1: also setting that example for others, and then yeah, holding
- 19:03Speaker 1: other people as well as um, those that are responsible
- 19:07Speaker 1: for creating the environment to keep you safety, keep you safe,
- 19:11Speaker 1: and to focus on that safety and having these protocols
- 19:14Speaker 1: in place, you start to be able to just kind
- 19:17Speaker 1: of relax and not think and worry so much about it.
- 19:20Speaker 1: You know, you have COVID compliance officers on set UM.
- 19:24Speaker 1: You know, again, we get tested on a regular basis
- 19:28Speaker 1: as well. And there was one person that I recall
- 19:31Speaker 1: that actually UM didn't necessarily test positive, but they thankfully
- 19:35Speaker 1: openly reported that. I think they either lived with somebody
- 19:39Speaker 1: that just worked with somebody who had a positive test
- 19:43Speaker 1: contract and then they isolated that person, I believe, or
- 19:47Speaker 1: asked them not to come to work until they did
- 19:50Speaker 1: a b C d E and then, you know what
- 19:52Speaker 1: I mean. So I think that people are doing the
- 19:56Speaker 1: best they can because again, they also don't want to
- 19:57Speaker 1: get shut down, right. That's why I was really great
- 20:01Speaker 1: that that person appreciate our unions and I appreciate the
- 20:04Speaker 1: entities that are there to hold people accountable, you know,
- 20:08Speaker 1: because that doesn't allow them to be irresponsible, or to
- 20:12Speaker 1: be laxed, or to be negent, you know, not to
- 20:15Speaker 1: mention just personally, regardless of what rules there are, how
- 20:18Speaker 1: you choose to get down, you know, and how you flow,
- 20:22Speaker 1: you know, should be at a consistent standard, no matter
- 20:25Speaker 1: what are the rules somebody else is making, you know,
- 20:27Speaker 1: I was saying the other day matter that we're talking
- 20:29Speaker 1: about cops and law enforcement on an earlier interview, for example,
- 20:32Speaker 1: and I'm like, I wasn't. I wasn't afraid of the
- 20:34Speaker 1: cops when I was like, when I was younger, I
- 20:37Speaker 1: would worry about the law of the house, for the
- 20:39Speaker 1: law of family, you know, so regardless of what other
- 20:42Speaker 1: laws and rules and protocols there are around you, you know,
- 20:47Speaker 1: in these systems, that really matters is how you govern yourself.
- 20:51Speaker 1: You know. Um, you know, independent of that cool cooking
- 20:55Speaker 1: of Christmas, this is about food. This is about Christmas time. Now,
- 21:00Speaker 1: let's let's let's go and have some fun here, Okay. No,
- 21:05Speaker 1: I know, because because she's a she's a chef, and
- 21:08Speaker 1: then it's the story about because you know, the thing
- 21:10Speaker 1: about black families, food is like especially during the holiday season,
- 21:14Speaker 1: you know, all we think about it. I'm sure every
- 21:16Speaker 1: family thinks about those plates, talk about the Every culture
- 21:23Speaker 1: is a centerpiece. Food and family is the centerpiece of
- 21:28Speaker 1: any you know, so and so. To me, to me,
- 21:32Speaker 1: this is the worst thing that could come your way.
- 21:34Speaker 1: You know, you in COVID doing a TV show, a
- 21:38Speaker 1: movie's movie that's gonna be airing on own on December
- 21:41Speaker 1: fifteen and food is the center and it's romance. So
- 21:46Speaker 1: again again it's romantic and COVID food, you and COVID.
- 21:50Speaker 1: So it's like, this is a beautiful movie concept, but
- 21:53Speaker 1: all these uh, the safety protocols are sitting that you
- 21:57Speaker 1: can't really be romantic, that you really can't talk about
- 22:02Speaker 1: that man kind. We were kind of like, well, you know,
- 22:07Speaker 1: like I always have these conversations with my leading ladies. Anyway,
- 22:10Speaker 1: it's just like, okay, so how can I touch your
- 22:15Speaker 1: ultimate one with one another or into each other or
- 22:18Speaker 1: married for years or whatever. All right, let's talk about
- 22:21Speaker 1: our you know, boundaries. And so now it's almost almost
- 22:26Speaker 1: like assumed, well almost like well, all right, well obviously
- 22:28Speaker 1: we ain't gonna be touching each other again, gonna be
- 22:30Speaker 1: kissed with each other. So how we're gonna do this
- 22:32Speaker 1: without making it weird or making it, you know, not
- 22:36Speaker 1: look fluid and sincere and warm and romantic. So again
- 22:41Speaker 1: you start to figure out how to do that with
- 22:43Speaker 1: these adjustments. But yeah, it was tough. You see all
- 22:45Speaker 1: this food and you want to be like, yeah, it
- 22:47Speaker 1: passed me to such a such and you know, pass
- 22:50Speaker 1: this instead. All the foods covered we got masks on.
- 22:54Speaker 1: You can't touch each other's utensils. And I mean it's
- 22:57Speaker 1: like the whole point of this timing year typically is
- 23:01Speaker 1: this roximity. It's this, It's this intimacy, it's just sharing.
- 23:06Speaker 1: It's this, you know what I mean. It's yeah, it's
- 23:08Speaker 1: the fact that I ain't seeing you all year or
- 23:11Speaker 1: maybe in years. So now we're gonna be all over
- 23:14Speaker 1: each other's family, on top of each other, kids on
- 23:17Speaker 1: your last plane. That's what. That's the right the kids,
- 23:21Speaker 1: you know, because you know, you know you're you're an athlete,
- 23:23Speaker 1: and you know your dad's home and run up to you.
- 23:27Speaker 1: That can't happen. You know, you're sitting on the sofa,
- 23:29Speaker 1: you know, jump on you know that can't happen. So
- 23:32Speaker 1: it really you really got now you really got to
- 23:35Speaker 1: think about the acting steps, the acting techniques and thought
- 23:38Speaker 1: and things. Is taking it beyond normalcy to COVID and eighteen. Yeah,
- 23:44Speaker 1: it's tricky, but but again, everybody, please have the discipline
- 23:49Speaker 1: to do things differently than you know this year. Trust me,
- 23:53Speaker 1: it's okay. The sooner we have that discipline that than
- 23:58Speaker 1: this year and a probably even next year, you know,
- 24:02Speaker 1: but I'd rather sacrifice the comforts that we're accustomed to
- 24:07Speaker 1: for however, so many prior decades or centuries or generations.
- 24:10Speaker 1: I'd rather sacrifice these two years in order to get
- 24:14Speaker 1: the best of some of those traditions back. But if
- 24:18Speaker 1: we don't have the discipline, it won't just take one
- 24:21Speaker 1: or two years, it will take five to twenty will
- 24:23Speaker 1: never get ourselves back on track. Some things we probably
- 24:26Speaker 1: should do a little differently, you know. So this is
- 24:29Speaker 1: probably gonna teach us some new lessons and maybe some
- 24:31Speaker 1: new traditions and that are also be discovered. But yeah,
- 24:35Speaker 1: we want to get back to the stuff that's that's
- 24:37Speaker 1: really warm and really then you know, about being loving
- 24:41Speaker 1: human beings because you brought this earlier about the home life.
- 24:45Speaker 1: You know a lot of things that we got away
- 24:47Speaker 1: from what is higgs and washing your hands and all
- 24:50Speaker 1: those things, because you know, they've always said doing the flu,
- 24:53Speaker 1: if you just wash your hands, that would cut down
- 24:56Speaker 1: or you're getting the flu. That's always been stated, okay,
- 24:59Speaker 1: And so wearing a mask is part of the bard
- 25:02Speaker 1: is just an upgrade to washing your hands all the time.
- 25:05Speaker 1: But so so we're not asking people to do anything
- 25:08Speaker 1: outside of normalcy other than other than you can't hug everybody.
- 25:12Speaker 1: You know, I don't know, and you can't hug everybody.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Be more mindful of that. And so when you come up,
- 25:17Speaker 1: when you gotta show the movie coming out like cooking
- 25:19Speaker 1: up Christmas, like I said again, premiers uh Decenter fifteen
- 25:23Speaker 1: owned stars my man Lamar Rutger who has been in everything,
- 25:27Speaker 1: and uh and then from an activist, well if you
- 25:30Speaker 1: had to say anything, and and just wrapping up because
- 25:32Speaker 1: I can never just talk to you about your projects
- 25:34Speaker 1: because you are like you was honored this year by
- 25:37Speaker 1: uh Cafe Moke Radio. I saw that when you were
- 25:40Speaker 1: honored so and I was really I was proud. I
- 25:42Speaker 1: watched that and you know he's on the big screen
- 25:44Speaker 1: and lending love was talking to you and everything, and
- 25:47Speaker 1: those are the moments man, that UH makes me feel
- 25:50Speaker 1: good about you, man, makes me feel good about the
- 25:52Speaker 1: relationship I have with you. We've raded over the year.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Tell us about being honored by Cafe Moke Radio. Well,
- 25:59Speaker 1: I mean that then a lot, man. I mean, that's
- 26:01Speaker 1: that's part of what I was saying earlier. Man. Um,
- 26:04Speaker 1: you know, you know how it is as as a
- 26:05Speaker 1: black man, and there's I mean, aside from again obviously
- 26:09Speaker 1: shining on each other and knowing how wonderful we are
- 26:13Speaker 1: as black men. Um. Having the love and support, um
- 26:16Speaker 1: and encouragement of your sisters and of your you know,
- 26:21Speaker 1: a black the black woman in general is incredibly powerful.
- 26:25Speaker 1: So my respect for the ladies over there and what
- 26:28Speaker 1: they've been doing over the years, Um, the lives that
- 26:31Speaker 1: they're living, the legacies that they're building, and the fact
- 26:34Speaker 1: that they also now created this vehicle to support and
- 26:38Speaker 1: acknowledge and uplift other people as well. It's incredibly powerful things.
- 26:43Speaker 1: So I was wonderfully honored um always uh, you know,
- 26:47Speaker 1: entertained by by the gifts and personalities of a girl
- 26:53Speaker 1: Lonnie and uh you know the rest of the crew
- 26:55Speaker 1: over there. Um. So you know, when we do this,
- 26:59Speaker 1: even when you and I, this is always this is
- 27:01Speaker 1: part of this is part of the love. But this
- 27:03Speaker 1: is also part of the accountability. You know. We know
- 27:06Speaker 1: that when we're out here walking our walk, that would
- 27:09Speaker 1: representing each other, you know, and every opportunity we get,
- 27:12Speaker 1: whether it's this direct or not, you know, it's always
- 27:16Speaker 1: about like, hey, how can I you know, make sure
- 27:20Speaker 1: I'm showing love, supporting and shining like on what this
- 27:23Speaker 1: person is doing because if they're doing something wonderful, then
- 27:27Speaker 1: and they're also a reflection of me and a reflection
- 27:30Speaker 1: of so many of the other people who are out
- 27:32Speaker 1: there doing something wonderful. So let's let's tell the story.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Let's show that, um, this great stuff has happening. You know.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Look look, you know, look around. You know, so even
- 27:42Speaker 1: my organization, the Black Gents, like that's what we're about.
- 27:45Speaker 1: And it's like, yo, like, look at the look at
- 27:47Speaker 1: Rashan McDonald, Look at the Rashan McDonald's of the world.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Look at the other men out here doing what we
- 27:53Speaker 1: know black men do and what we know black men
- 27:55Speaker 1: do on the regular. Hey, what are our sisters doing?
- 27:58Speaker 1: What are our mothers and daughter is and you know
- 28:01Speaker 1: and lovers and grandmothers and whatever, what are they doing? Okay,
- 28:05Speaker 1: let's shine on our women. Let's uphold and uh and
- 28:09Speaker 1: love and you know, support. Like whatever our women and
- 28:13Speaker 1: sisters and children are doing, how can we do that?
- 28:16Speaker 1: Like that's like that's an incredible way to uh to
- 28:20Speaker 1: live and breathe. And anybody that's part of that type
- 28:24Speaker 1: of love proposition, anybody that's out here, um, fighting for
- 28:28Speaker 1: what's right, even when nobody's looking like. Those are the
- 28:31Speaker 1: stories I'm always open to telling. And those are the
- 28:34Speaker 1: people that I love to lock arms with. You know,
- 28:37Speaker 1: So you're speaking a lock of in this march with you,
- 28:40Speaker 1: bro if I've always you know, as as a famous
- 28:43Speaker 1: um work where you locking arms like this, you know
- 28:47Speaker 1: he's reaching down like that. I've always envisioned that being
- 28:51Speaker 1: the role you playing, like because like like I said that,
- 28:54Speaker 1: he's more than an actor. He's an activist. He's a
- 28:57Speaker 1: he's a community uplifter. I'm gonna make up of where
- 29:00Speaker 1: he's in the community uplift there. That's what he does.
- 29:02Speaker 1: All the times I've asked him, all the times I
- 29:05Speaker 1: didn't ask him, he's called. But his brother has been
- 29:08Speaker 1: to Dollars with me, to Steve Harvard camps. He's been
- 29:11Speaker 1: to Orlando with me, to the Disney Dreamers. These are
- 29:15Speaker 1: these kids, Okay. He set aside the time I've been
- 29:18Speaker 1: sitting on board much with him talking about how to
- 29:20Speaker 1: break into the film industry in Atlanta. So I got
- 29:24Speaker 1: a track record with him and showing what he's done
- 29:27Speaker 1: in the black gents and him being an entrepreneur, and
- 29:30Speaker 1: and they were, like said, these interviews always fun with
- 29:32Speaker 1: me because, like I said, we talked about his role
- 29:35Speaker 1: and what he's doing on the screen, but it always
- 29:37Speaker 1: drips back to the man he is off the screen
- 29:39Speaker 1: and cooking up Christmas is just an opportunity to see
- 29:42Speaker 1: his talents December fifteen on the Old Network. But more importantly,
- 29:46Speaker 1: what he's doing off the camera. You know, when he's
- 29:49Speaker 1: doing walking down the street, when you're going, hey Jacob Steep,
- 29:52Speaker 1: rocking boy, I love you and Green keep left the
- 29:58Speaker 1: brother your community up and left the lament. Thank you, bron.
- 30:01Speaker 1: I really want to thank my legure man. Thanks always.
- 30:04Speaker 1: So you know, so uh so much fun to be
- 30:07Speaker 1: here with your bag. Like literally, we could do this
- 30:09Speaker 1: even with there were no cameras or whatever. Man, we'd
- 30:12Speaker 1: be just chopping it up, you know what I mean.
- 30:14Speaker 1: And we don't chop it up. Like I said, I'll
- 30:15Speaker 1: turn you off air. Don't do this, man, just sit
- 30:18Speaker 1: around Atlanta. All that stuff you were talking about. We
- 30:22Speaker 1: could do it now again. If you want to come
