Latest / The Buckpuster Podcast / Season 5 Episode 16: The Otters WON?!?
Transcript
- 0:00Let's take a fundamental game. You know the betting
- 0:03apps where they do like the over -under for whatever
- 0:06category, whether it's shots and goal or rushing
- 0:09yards by a running back or whatever. Over -under,
- 0:1312 .5. I'm not going to give you any context
- 0:19because that will give it away. Over -under,
- 0:2212 .5. Under. Under. That's your question. Because
- 0:30it's going to be a spot on. 12 .5%. My success
- 0:34rate for the Erie Otters going to the second
- 0:37round is 12 .5%. One for eight. One for fucking
- 0:42eight. Do you know how long of a wait to see
- 0:45a series win? Long fucking time. Long goddamn
- 0:50time! 12 .8%. Do you know the last time the fifth
- 0:55seed beat the fourth seed? In the Western Conference,
- 0:59in the LHL, in the first round? I thought it
- 1:03would be more recent. 2011. Really? 2011, when
- 1:10the fifth, no joke, the fifth -seeded Saginaw
- 1:13beat the fourth -seeded Sarnia. Oh, wow. They
- 1:16advanced to go play London in the second round.
- 1:18And what did happen there? Saginaw lost 4 -2.
- 1:22Oh, yeah, okay, okay. If we lose in six, I'll
- 1:26be okay with that. They're now 4 -2 at London,
- 1:28and they're going all the way to beat Niagara
- 1:29in the finals. Beat Niagara? Shocker. But 12
- 1:36.5%. Wow. I do believe every series is now done,
- 1:43isn't it? Yeah. I just looked. Everything is
- 1:46done off, so I just beat Brampton today 4 -1.
- 1:51So they officially... They officially move on.
- 1:55Second round is going to start Thursday. Round
- 2:01one is complete. Most games will start Thursday.
- 2:11Some will start Friday. Including both series
- 2:16in the West will start Thursday. So it will be
- 2:20Windsor and Kitchener. Right? Yep, Windsor and
- 2:26Kitchener. Yeah, Windsor and Kitchener. And then
- 2:27Erie and London. Which I think we got damn near
- 2:32every series right. I think the only one we were
- 2:35on the fence about was Saginaw and Erie. Yeah,
- 2:38believe it or not, I'm happy. I think everybody
- 2:41here said it was going to go to seven. I think
- 2:43most of us were unfortunately in favor of Saginaw.
- 2:45I don't think, or none of us really had extreme
- 2:47confidence that Erie was going to do it. But
- 2:50we all thought it was going to be seven games.
- 2:52Not all of us have confidence that, you know,
- 2:55Cary Trant or Matthew Schaefer even have a hint
- 2:59or a sniff of seeing action. Obviously, Cary
- 3:02Trant has a hint of action being back in the
- 3:05non -contact jersey. But the fact is, without
- 3:09those two players, I know their excuses. Oh,
- 3:12we don't have a top goaltender. Okay, cool. You
- 3:16don't have a top goaltender. We don't have our
- 3:18captain. We didn't have our number one defenseman.
- 3:23What's your point? The refs screw American teams.
- 3:28You're not alone. Two American teams, they didn't
- 3:30know what to call. You're not alone in this boat
- 3:33there, pal. I personally think the refs were
- 3:36heavily favoring Sagadon in Game 5. You ask me
- 3:38personally, but I guess we still won that game.
- 3:40I say Game 5, I say Game 4, both 3 and 4, it
- 3:45seemed like making it a lot of 4 on 4. Two -sided,
- 3:51you know, just... I was talking about this with
- 3:54a buddy earlier. Of course, the one and only
- 3:57game of the series that I went to was the one
- 3:59game of the series that we lost. Great. I hope
- 4:03he knows that he is currently banned from the
- 4:06EIA. Sorry, Kyle. Go fuck yourself. Well, you
- 4:12can't even be there for the second round. I don't
- 4:14care. You're not allowed to be there. You're
- 4:18going alone, Jeff. If I get word that you're
- 4:21there, I'm going to fly home from Phoenix. And
- 4:24beat the fuck out of you. But what if they win,
- 4:26though? That's the thing. What if they win while
- 4:29you're gone? Like, he's in the building. Yeah,
- 4:31what if I sit in your seat? That still doesn't
- 4:33matter. You don't go. Anyways, yeah. We're still
- 4:39extremely thrilled, obviously, that Eerie's moving
- 4:42on. I don't think anybody here would have said
- 4:44it. We're going to do this in five games. Nobody.
- 4:48Let alone scoring 17 goals in the first two games.
- 4:52On the road. At the end of the series, we outscored
- 4:57them 33 -16. Jesus Christ. More than double.
- 5:0219. 33 -16. Did I say 19? It was 33 -16. Should
- 5:08have been 19. No. It was 5 -5 and then 3 -3 -3
- 5:11for them, wasn't it? Hold on. It was 8 -5, 9
- 5:19-5, and then a 3 -2 loss. 7 -3 win, 6 -3 win?
- 5:23For a year, it was 8 -9, 2 -7. 5 -5 is 10, 3
- 5:29-3, oh, 3 -2 is 15, 18. So 5 -5, 3 -2 -3. I'm
- 5:36sorry, 3 -2 -3. I read that wrong. 3 -3 -3. So
- 5:40it's 19, okay. Okay. 9 -8 -7 -6 -3. Okay, yeah,
- 5:5133 -19. 33 -19, and that's in five games, guys.
- 5:57That's in five games. Four times did the Otters
- 6:01score more than six or more goals. The four games
- 6:07we won, we scored five plus goals. Unfortunately,
- 6:10that's how we had to win. But the fact is we
- 6:15had to score five plus goals. After the first
- 6:20two games, there's people making jokes like,
- 6:22well, I can tell goaltending is not the highlight
- 6:23of this series. Not wrong. I guess everything
- 6:28there wasn't okay. Wasn't okay because he wasn't
- 6:31okay. But the first two games combined, there's
- 6:3527 goals in the first two games. Five for the
- 6:39first six periods. And then you come home for
- 6:41game three and there's five scored. You couldn't
- 6:48muster any more goals other than five in game
- 6:50three. All we had to do was just find that rhythm.
- 6:54First period of game one, scoreless. Second period,
- 6:59we go in there, we get one, we get two, three,
- 7:01four, five, six, seven, eight. All eight goals
- 7:04were scored in the second period of game one.
- 7:07And then Saginaw started coming back towards
- 7:08the end. If they had more time, it might have
- 7:10been a different story. Thankfully, they didn't
- 7:13have any more time. 8 -5 final game one. Game
- 7:16two, very similar. As soon as we found our rhythm,
- 7:19we just kept potting them, kept potting them.
- 7:219 -5 final game two. I said Marty and Pano got
- 7:25a hat check in that game. Yeah, double hat check.
- 7:27That's right. Game three, the first game back
- 7:31in Erie. The toughest game. I think the best
- 7:34game Saginaw played all series. Took down at
- 7:37the very end, time of the game, with what, 13,
- 7:4014 seconds, something like that? 13 seconds.
- 7:4413 and change. Dude, that's the loudest I've
- 7:46heard that building in quite some time. At least,
- 7:49personally, being there, at least. That's the
- 7:52loudest I've heard that place. My heart was pounding.
- 7:55A very long time. That, by far, was the best
- 7:58defensive and goaltending showcase. And then
- 8:01that save from Nola there in the second period.
- 8:05God damn. We should have called the police on
- 8:08him. Highway robbery? Yeah, we should have called
- 8:11him for highway robbery. He should be in jail
- 8:14right now for what he did to Zach and I. I thought
- 8:16an issue was in. I was like, I put my hand up.
- 8:20And in person, we're like, there's nothing to
- 8:22review. There's no way you can tell that. But
- 8:24then I got home and I saw the replay. I was like,
- 8:26I can see why they reviewed that. It was pretty
- 8:29damn close. It was on the goal line. Very, very
- 8:34close. Game 4 went out, and again, just second
- 8:38period, third period, just started going out
- 8:40and dominating. What, 7 -3 final on that one?
- 8:42The third period, we were tied at 2, right? Or
- 8:46tied at 3. We were tied coming into the third
- 8:49period there. Of course, I had to close out the
- 8:52app. Just went off. Did somebody get a hat -trick
- 8:55in that one too? Or no? No. Not that game. Not
- 8:58in game four. Game five, Marty got a... Yeah,
- 9:02tie three going into period three. And then panels
- 9:09two quick goals. That's right. 15 seconds apart.
- 9:13First one was 59 seconds in. The second one was
- 9:17a minute 14 in. I remember, yeah. I watched that
- 9:19one. I watched them score. I got up. My fiance
- 9:22was in the kitchen. I just started talking to
- 9:23her. I'm like, I think I'm filling my water bottle
- 9:25or something. All of a sudden, I hear Sean going,
- 9:27scores! Then he scored again. I run out. I was
- 9:30like, are they just doing the replay? I run out
- 9:31and they're celebrating again. I was like, what
- 9:32the fuck? I was like, holy shit. Yeah, they got
- 9:36a couple power play goals in that game, which
- 9:38I'm fucking surprised. 50 % going into game five.
- 9:41I think we still are, too. I think we were two
- 9:43for three or two for four last night. And then,
- 9:48you know, Eddie on the power play got one. And
- 9:51then Gabe scored a power play goal. He's been
- 9:56starting to really heat up here these past couple
- 9:58games. So hopefully he continues. That's what
- 10:00happened. The ones he may not expect to shine,
- 10:03shine in the playoffs. Yeah. Imagine you let
- 10:06Alex Messier score any last night. His first
- 10:10fucking playoff goal. First playoff goal ever.
- 10:12I think only maybe like his fourth or fifth career
- 10:14goal. He does not score a whole lot of goals.
- 10:18He's been known to use his hands as fists instead
- 10:22of hands. A couple too many times that led to
- 10:24a nine -game suspension. No, that was worth it.
- 10:27That was fucking worth it. It was worth it. Yeah,
- 10:31Erie ended up finishing nine for 18 in the five
- 10:34games played against Saginaw. That's incredible.
- 10:37I think I said something to Colin at the watch
- 10:40probably last time. What was that, second, third
- 10:42time in the series where Erie was let you down
- 10:45by at least... Early and then came back. First
- 10:49two goal deficit of the series. When we went
- 10:52down 2 -0 early, I think I'm the one that said
- 10:54that. I said this is the first two goal deficit.
- 10:56The first time we have been down two goals in
- 10:59the whole series, and I said that can't be good.
- 11:01But came right back, scored two quick ones, I
- 11:04think, to start the second. Yeah, number one
- 11:06power play in the postseason right now. Number
- 11:10one. And then... Oh, man. Yeah, other series
- 11:20around the league. North Bay ended up stealing
- 11:23one from Brantford, which I did not see happening,
- 11:24but Brantford still went on to win that series
- 11:264 -1. Niagara also stealing one from the second
- 11:29-seeded Berry, but that series still ending 4
- 11:31-1. Kingston sweeping right past Sudbury, 4 -0.
- 11:36Brampton keeping Oshawa a run for their money,
- 11:38pushing that one to 6, but Oshawa wins game 6
- 11:41in Brampton. Final score of that one was 4 -1,
- 11:44taking the series 4 -2. Shocker. No surprise.
- 11:48We knew this was going to happen. London sweeping
- 11:50right past Owen Sound. Windsor losing one game
- 11:55to the Sioux. The Sioux Greyhounds winning that
- 11:57series 4 -1. Flint ended up stealing one away
- 12:00from Kitchener, but that one's still ending up
- 12:024 -1. And Erie Otter is the only lower seed in
- 12:07the OHL playoffs to move on. and win their series.
- 12:10It's still sad that it has yet to beat Erie in
- 12:13the postseason. They have never beat us in the
- 12:15postseason? They have not beaten Erie in the
- 12:17postseason. Never, really. Yeah, as of right
- 12:19now, special teams, Otter Power Play, number
- 12:22one, obviously. The PK, number five. Number five?
- 12:2678 .6%. Five out of 16 teams, that's not bad.
- 12:30Yeah, the teams that are ahead of us are, not
- 12:36surprising, London. Kitchener's at 100%. Kitchener's
- 12:40at 100 % on the penalty kill? Remember, Flint
- 12:42didn't score on the power play. True. Yeah. I
- 12:45think the other one game that they did steal
- 12:47ended up being a shutout. Ethan Day just had
- 12:50a fucking, had a day. Yeah, Kitchener, zero goals
- 12:57and 21 penalty kills. Other teams that are ahead
- 13:02of us, North Bay at an 80 .9. Sudbury had a pretty
- 13:06damn good PK. 87 .5. And a loss. And then London
- 13:12had 86 .4. Yeah. Erie has three players in the
- 13:20top ten for scoring for the playoffs so far.
- 13:24Liam Greenchie leads the way with 15 points in
- 13:27five games. That's seven goals and eight assists
- 13:29in five games. Right behind him, teammate Ilya
- 13:32Protas with 15 points as well, three goals and
- 13:3412 assists. And then in third, tied for second
- 13:38technically, but tied for third. All with 12
- 13:42points are Marty Miziak, Owen Gerfin, Denver
- 13:44Barkey, Sam Alfano, Dylan Wakely, and Luke Misa
- 13:49all have 12 points. The highest one being Marty
- 13:52with seven goals and five assists. And then Pano
- 13:56down at 10. Pano and Dylan tied for 11 points.
- 14:00Pena with seven goals, four assists. Dylan Edwards
- 14:02with five goals, six assists. Kobe Barlow with
- 14:06six goals, five assists. Noah Morneau of Windsor
- 14:08with eight goals, three assists. Just unbelievable,
- 14:12man. Like, whew. It's insane. Made his way up
- 14:17with two hat trips this series. All right. In
- 14:19game two and game five. Both on the road. Kind
- 14:24of funny that Saginaw did not win a home game
- 14:27in the postseason. We won one, but we only had
- 14:31two chances at it. And the one went to overtime.
- 14:35Yeah, when Erie scored in that third period,
- 14:38that game three to tie with 13 seconds left,
- 14:40and then Painfully ended up going on to lose
- 14:42in overtime, just very stupid defensively. I
- 14:46do not think we played smart at all defensively
- 14:49in that period, in that overtime period. Yeah.
- 14:51One thing that I still don't get with LHL is
- 14:54how or why do they have a piece, a little, a
- 14:58legit piece of shit on skates, skate around on
- 15:00that ice? Like Zane, Zane, what's his name? Zane
- 15:04Per, Per, I don't even want to say his name.
- 15:09Does it have an actual garbage bag on skates
- 15:13is all I'm going to say. Like he, it was, I'll
- 15:17admit it was entertaining on game four. Seeing
- 15:22him and Malcolm. Him and Malcolm go back. They
- 15:25were at each other's throats all series, though.
- 15:27All series, they're at each other's throats.
- 15:32It started in warm -ups, like, Parekh ran in
- 15:35and sped Malcolm. Then, obviously, they were
- 15:39pushed away by the linesmen. And then they just
- 15:44were at each other all that time. Apparently
- 15:47during game four there, when they were doing
- 15:49their 7 for the 10s, there's an Erie fan by our
- 15:53penalty box, the Erie penalty box, who had a
- 15:55little phone saying, $100 for you to fight Breck.
- 15:58And Malcolm looked over and he's like, no, he's
- 16:01too big of a bitch. No joke, he's saying he's
- 16:04too big of a bitch. Dude, we've seen Malcolm.
- 16:07Malcolm can fight. We've seen it. Given the opportunity,
- 16:11he will fight. Ever since Coach Chris came in,
- 16:15apparently Erie needs a coach named Chris to
- 16:17be successful. But I absolutely love every second
- 16:22of seeing this physical side of Malcolm Spence
- 16:24ever since Chris Millette came in. I don't know
- 16:28if it's just something that Stan or even before
- 16:31BJ just didn't want him to do that. They just
- 16:34didn't want him to focus on that. But Chris...
- 16:35Obviously doesn't give two fucks. I actually
- 16:37sent a screenshot to these guys of Chris Millett's
- 16:40hockey stats as a player. Do put up some penalty
- 16:43minutes. Like, I think his model. We're talking
- 16:46369 penalty minutes in 49 games. Like, I think
- 16:49his biggest thing is play your game. Do your
- 16:52thing. Not, oh, obviously eat your emotions and
- 16:54check, but play your game. If that's a physical
- 16:58game, Alex Messier. Or just the emotional. McCall,
- 17:02Wesley Royston. We've seen those probably the
- 17:04big three physical guys on the team right now.
- 17:06Or the emotional game, Malcolm Spence. I get
- 17:11hockey players are emotional beings. But you
- 17:14need that. You need the emotional cyclist game.
- 17:17I absolutely love the amount of physicalness
- 17:20that Malcolm has been showing that he actually
- 17:22has a coach that is allowing him to show it.
- 17:25I love every single second of it. When Malcolm
- 17:28got into that fight, I got up, I was like, holy
- 17:30shit, that's Malcolm Spence! We were going crazy
- 17:34up where we were. Yeah, he was throwing. You
- 17:38could tell he was waiting for that fight. He
- 17:40just doesn't want to be the one to instigate
- 17:42and get the 2 -5 -10. Dumbass rule. He was waiting
- 17:45for his chance. Somebody dropped the mitts. He's
- 17:47like, alright, fucking bet. There are some situations
- 17:51where I understand the 2 -5 -10. If you legit
- 17:54pull, the other player's helmet and gloves off,
- 17:57sure, give him a two, five, ten. But if you ask
- 18:00for it for staying up for a teammate, no. I think
- 18:03Malcolm laid that hit. All of a sudden, the player
- 18:05came up to him and said something, and Malcolm
- 18:07went to skate away. But I think in the corner
- 18:09of his eye, he saw the gloves on the ground.
- 18:10He's like, all right, fucking bet. He threw his
- 18:12down and just... Don't have to tell me twice.
- 18:15You can tell he had been waiting for that fucking
- 18:18opportunity. And he did not fucking... He did
- 18:21not disappoint me. I really wish that, you know,
- 18:25Daniel Breer would have stayed for that goal.
- 18:29Because, again, I would have turned around, pointed,
- 18:31had him, you know, out of my chest, and, you
- 18:33know, fucking dropped this man. Yeah, some of
- 18:35the names that were at the EIA for Game 3 were
- 18:38Daniel Breer, Barry Trotz, I think it was Keith
- 18:43Kachuk, but that was not confirmed if we know
- 18:44it was him or not, because he's not a GM of anything.
- 18:46I'm confident, but... I was pretty sure. Kevin
- 18:48Adams, GM of the Buffalo Sabres. There are probably
- 18:52more that we didn't realize. For those of you
- 18:53who don't know, Barry Trotz, GM of the New York
- 18:55Islanders, or no, Predators. Predators. Predators,
- 18:57and then Danny Brear, obviously general manager
- 18:59of the Philadelphia Flyers. All big names that
- 19:03were all at that game. Calduz has been at the
- 19:05EAA multiple times, which is why I really think
- 19:07that Pittsburgh might be interested in Malcolm
- 19:10Spence. But it makes sense for all those guys
- 19:13to be there, all going to be getting arguably
- 19:16the top 12 picks. It makes sense. Guess what?
- 19:20You're going to have three or four players on
- 19:22the night. For the love of God, just don't let
- 19:24fucking Maddie or Malcolm go to Philly. I don't
- 19:27care if they go to Long Island. I don't care
- 19:30if they go to Nashville. Do not go to Philly.
- 19:32Do not be Jamie Drysdale. I know he didn't have
- 19:34a choice, but do not be a Jamie Drysdale. Anyways,
- 19:39Jeff, do you want to get us with your OHL milestones?
- 19:42Not really much because it's playoff time? No.
- 19:45Well, I guess we can talk about... how we think
- 19:48round two is going to go. Round two, obviously,
- 19:51the matchup that we know is going to be a thing.
- 19:55We'll just go down the road. We know what the
- 19:57matchup is going to be. We're going to have Brantford
- 20:00versus Oshawa. Obviously, the first -seeded Brantford
- 20:04against the fourth -seeded Oshawa. Obviously,
- 20:06Brantford is going to have home ice advantage.
- 20:09Seeing how much Oshawa struggled against the
- 20:12fifth -seeded Brampton, I mean, Brantford even
- 20:16dropped a game to North Bay. But that was a tight
- 20:19game. I mean, there was a 6 -3 loss, but they
- 20:24didn't struggle too much other than that with
- 20:25a 6 -3 win, 3 -0 win, another 6 -3 win, and a
- 20:285 -1 win. Or, sorry, a 4 -3 overtime win and
- 20:32then a 5 -1 win. A 6 -3 was a loss. But, I mean,
- 20:36I still think Brantford's going to continue their
- 20:38run. I can see Oshawa giving them a little bit
- 20:42of a fight. I can see this one possibly going
- 20:44to 6. I'd say Brantford in six. They're going
- 20:47to do, you know, the home team's going to win
- 20:49the first four, and then that's where Brantford's
- 20:51really going to take over. Kind of lock in and
- 20:53be like, all right. Enough is enough kind of
- 20:56thing. I think it's going to be pretty similar.
- 20:59I think they might, Oshawa's going to steal one
- 21:01on home ice. Maybe game four to avoid the sweep,
- 21:04but I think that it's going to come home to Brantford.
- 21:05I'm going to say Brantford in five. I'm going
- 21:08to say Brantford in six. I think Brantford's
- 21:10going to want to get the job done at home. If
- 21:12the opportunity's there, obviously if they go,
- 21:14back home tied, they're not going to want to
- 21:16do it at 7. But if they come home with a 3 -1
- 21:18lead, they're going to do everything they can
- 21:19to win that thing at home and win it at 5. Next,
- 21:24we'll have the Kingston Frontenacs and the Berry
- 21:27Colts. I don't have this pulled up quite yet.
- 21:33Berry Colts won their series 4 -1. Kingston won
- 21:35theirs, swept through theirs against Sudbury,
- 21:374 -0. Obviously, Berry's the higher seed, so
- 21:40they will get home with advantage. Barry lost
- 21:44a close game in Niagara. The only game Niagara
- 21:47won was a 6 -4 win. It was in Niagara. But every
- 21:51other game, Barry won by at least two goals.
- 21:534 -2, 7 -5, 6 -3, and 6 -3. And then Kingston
- 21:58did a clean sweep of Sudbury. 4 -1, 4 -3, double
- 22:03OT in Kingston. And then 4 -2, 3 -2 in Sudbury.
- 22:11A little bit closer on... Yeah, I mean, it's
- 22:13second and third seed. This is the one where
- 22:15I think anything could happen here. Kingston,
- 22:18I definitely think, has a little bit more playoff
- 22:21experience than Barry does, at least this current
- 22:23era of those two teams. I don't know, man. I
- 22:27mean, Barry's still a really good team this year.
- 22:29I think they were, like, 7th or 8th seed last
- 22:31year. Yeah, so they've really squawked. It's
- 22:35not the end there, so... I'm going to say Kingston
- 22:37in six. No, Barry was the eighth seed last year.
- 22:42I just pulled it up. Barry was the eighth seed
- 22:43last year. So they went from the eighth to the
- 22:45second seed. Pretty impressive. I mean, not as
- 22:48impressive as Windsor when they went from, what,
- 22:50worst in the league to second seed. This one's
- 22:58tough. This one's tougher than you might think.
- 23:00Yeah. Again, it's definitely a six or maybe seven
- 23:05if there's a couple bullshit calls throughout
- 23:07that. But, I mean, they're both Canadians, so
- 23:10they're not going to be bullshit holes. Yeah.
- 23:13This is one that I could possibly see going all
- 23:17the way. I could see this one going to 7. And
- 23:22I'm going to give... Man. It's just, you know,
- 23:25what it comes down to is special teams, you know?
- 23:29Number one, if we can stay the fuck out of the
- 23:31boxes, you know, keep the game 5 -on -5 as much
- 23:34as we can, or 4 -on -4 aside. If we want to look
- 23:37at it further, overall points -wise, they were
- 23:40the exact same with 88 points. Barry 42 -22,
- 23:442 -2, holy twos. And 40 -25 -3 for Kingston.
- 23:50Let me guess, the only reason why Barry got the
- 23:53higher seed is because they won their division.
- 23:57My guess would be for regulation wins. Well,
- 24:00yeah, Barry won their division, that's why. But
- 24:02I'm saying that and regulation wins, probably.
- 24:05Well, it first goes to the division winner, and
- 24:08then if you're not the division winner, then
- 24:09regulation wins. Well, Barry has the favor in
- 24:11both, so. Okay. Either way, it doesn't matter.
- 24:14Yeah, man, this one could go seven, this one
- 24:15could go either way. This one, I might give the
- 24:19lower seed and go Kingston on this one. I think
- 24:21Kingston in seven. That's the thing, it's like,
- 24:23I was on the fence about your sack of all series,
- 24:27like, for the first round. And look, I was wrong,
- 24:31and I'm happy that I'm wrong, but like... I would
- 24:34love to be wrong again and say... We couldn't
- 24:37have been more wrong. We thought it was going
- 24:39to be hard -fought seven games, but Aries is
- 24:41going to fall short in game seven or even game
- 24:42six. We are moving on after five, man. I'm going
- 24:46to say Barry. I'm going to say seven. The majority
- 24:49of those games are going to require at least
- 24:51some extra time. I'm going to say Kingston in
- 24:55either six or seven. I'm warming towards seven,
- 24:58though. I don't know, man. Kingston is just,
- 25:01like I said, the more... playoff experience a
- 25:05bit of his current teams. But I don't know, man.
- 25:09We could be surprised. Barry could keep going.
- 25:12Alright, moving on to the West. The first series
- 25:14that we're going to go over is the Windsor Street
- 25:17Fire hosting the number three Kitchener Rangers.
- 25:22Windsor won their series honestly kind of convincingly
- 25:26with the exception of game three when they lost
- 25:28an OT 3 -2 in the Sioux, but otherwise the scores
- 25:31were 7 -2, 7 -1, 4 -1 and 8 -4 in Game 1. That's
- 25:36honestly pretty similar to how Erie played Saginaw.
- 25:40And then Kitchener, same kind of thing. The only
- 25:44game that was really an OT was Game 1, which
- 25:46Kitchener took 4 -3. Otherwise, it's Kitchener
- 25:496 -1 in Game 2. Flint's only win game in Game
- 25:523, 2 -0 in Game 4 and 5, both in Kitchener, with
- 25:57the final scores of 5 -1 and 2 -1, respectively.
- 26:02This one, I mean, Kitchener was the better team
- 26:05in the regular season -wise, but because Windsor
- 26:07won their division, that's why they got the higher
- 26:09seed. So, I mean, this one is another one where
- 26:13you can very easily choose Kitchener, who is
- 26:16the better team. But, I mean, again, this is
- 26:19the playoffs, man. I mean, home ice advantage
- 26:20is very important in these playoffs, especially
- 26:23in the O. Wow. You can't say that because, again,
- 26:27going back to the Erie Sack and all series. Well,
- 26:29Erie's just the best team in the playoffs right
- 26:31now. No. They are the hottest team coming in.
- 26:35But, like, when the home team is being scored,
- 26:38outscored. Matthew. Matthew, stop. Sorry. When
- 26:44the home team was being scored, outscored 23
- 26:48to 13. A 10 -goal fucking difference. Man, that
- 26:55says something. I mean, look in the game. The
- 26:58Windsor just absolutely blew out pretty much
- 27:02every single game. 1 -5, 1 -6, 1 -3, and 1 -4.
- 27:06Kitchener's were a little bit closer. The first
- 27:09game went to overtime, and then a 6 -1 win, and
- 27:12then they lost 2 -0, and they won 5 -1, and only
- 27:14won Friday night 2 -1. So a lot of lower scoring
- 27:18and really good goaltending. Is Parsons still
- 27:21in there for Kitchener? Yeah, Parsons are number
- 27:23one. So, I mean, we've seen how well he can do.
- 27:26He's done pretty good against Erie in the past.
- 27:29He's probably, I think, one of the main reasons
- 27:30that Kitchener beat us last year. So, realistically,
- 27:34it's how much can you get in front of Jackson
- 27:36Parsons? Or whatever his first name is. I think
- 27:39it's Jackson. How much can you get in the eyes
- 27:42of Jackson Parsons? That's really going to be
- 27:45the biggest key factor. Get in front of him.
- 27:48Get in front of him. Screen the fuck out of him.
- 27:51As they would say to... Big Scott, John Scott,
- 27:56or Doug Glad, park your ass in front of the net
- 28:00and stay there. Yeah. Whereas Steve Dingle would
- 28:04say, if you're a goaltender, which Nolan Lalonde
- 28:07did not do a lot of that for Sue. Not bad to
- 28:11say that. Well, you saw that he got ran over
- 28:14by his own teammate, right? No, I didn't. If
- 28:16I can find the clip of him getting clobbered,
- 28:19I'll show you guys. But he got... He got 50 shades
- 28:24of fucked up on that hit. It looked scary bad.
- 28:30My heart sank when I saw him get hit. Seriously,
- 28:35it did. That's rough. Thankfully he got up and
- 28:39skated off under his own power, but that's definitely
- 28:42concussion protocol. For this series, do we want
- 28:47to go more of who's been the offensive firepower
- 28:50scoring a lot of goals with Windsor? Or a team
- 28:53that does not allow in a lot of goals with Kitchener
- 28:56and Jackson Parsons, who is a lot better defensively.
- 29:01Who also does not score a whole lot of goals,
- 29:04but... Holy moly, that's a big -ass cat. Oh,
- 29:09I know. Do you know this? Upstairs in here, running
- 29:12around downstairs. He jumped off the cat train
- 29:16right downstairs. I thought he was running around
- 29:18downstairs. I'm like, how the hell can we hear
- 29:19that? Again, what it comes down to is, is Windsor
- 29:25able to get behind their defense and get in front
- 29:27of Jackson Parsons? That's all it's going to
- 29:30come down to. I'm sorry. Defense is going to
- 29:32do great. The offense is going to get their chances
- 29:34both ways. But how well will Jackson Parsons
- 29:38hold up for Kitchener? If he's doing what he
- 29:40did in round one, Kitchener's going to win in
- 29:42six or seven. If Windsor's going to be able to
- 29:45do it, they're going to pull in six or seven.
- 29:47But, again. All it takes is probably maybe these
- 29:53first two games in Windsor that get in Jackson
- 29:55Parsons' head, maybe put up seven equals again
- 29:58twice. This could very easily be a sweep for
- 30:01Windsor. Who knows? But I don't think it's going
- 30:04to be that easy for Windsor. I don't think it's
- 30:07going to be that easy defensively or goaltending
- 30:09for Kitchener. I'm sorry, but knowing Jackson
- 30:13Parsons and knowing how well he is and with his
- 30:16age and his experience, It's going to be really
- 30:20damn tough to get inside that kid's head. Really
- 30:24tough. Give him credit to where credit's due.
- 30:27I think as long as Kitchener's defense can actually
- 30:31keep up with Windsor's firepower, I honestly
- 30:35believe defense will win this series. I'm definitely
- 30:41leaning towards Kitchener in seven. I was actually
- 30:46leaning more towards Windsor. And maybe six.
- 30:51I just think... It's just a matter of... I'll
- 30:56say, I mean, Flint is a good team, don't get
- 30:57me wrong, but they're obviously nowhere near
- 30:59as good as what Windsor is. Well, I'm sorry.
- 31:02When you compare the big three of the league,
- 31:04you know, London, Kitchener, Windsor, to everybody
- 31:06else... To Flint, Sioux, and Owen Sac. Well,
- 31:08no, it doesn't matter if you compare them to.
- 31:12You kind of feel that those big three teams are
- 31:15going to win more often than not. But, I mean,
- 31:20unless you're Niagara with your fourth string
- 31:22goaltender in, but, you know. That's besides
- 31:26the point. Went on a 12 -game losing streak.
- 31:33But, you know. They're like, London who? L. But
- 31:37that's besides the point. Became the Unden Knights
- 31:40for a night. Refocus here, refocus here. I think
- 31:48this one could easily be Windsor in six if they
- 31:50can find a way to get in Jackson's head. All
- 31:55right, moving on to the final series of the final
- 31:58eights. We've got the number one London Knights,
- 32:01who swept the one sound attack. Surprise. 6 -1,
- 32:056 -3, 7 -4, 8 -4. Oh, my God. Versus the number
- 32:12five Erie Otters, where they obviously won in
- 32:15five games. The only game they lost, like we
- 32:19said earlier, 3 -2 in Game 3, an OT by that piece
- 32:22-of -shit dirtbag, a word that I can't say on
- 32:25the air, see you next Tuesday, Zach Prek, and
- 32:29then winning the rest of the games, 8 -5, 9 -5,
- 32:317 -3, 6 -3. Yeah, man, I mean, Erie has clearly
- 32:38been, I mean, the scoring on both sides has been
- 32:41pretty high, but I mean, Erie was playing a backup
- 32:44goaltender. You got to, this word will, I'll
- 32:47let my biased, push my biased aside and talk
- 32:50for reals. Yes, Demir was playing against a bad
- 32:52backup goaltender. But yes, at the same time,
- 32:54London was playing the eighth seed. Well, I mean,
- 32:58Carter George is still a fantastic goaltender.
- 33:00I personally believe if Carter George was on
- 33:02any other team, I think he'd be the best goaltender
- 33:04in the league. Personally. He's a very, very
- 33:08good goaltender. Sadly, he's on a not so good
- 33:10team in LN7. I'd like to see him get traded to
- 33:15a contender next year. If not London, please
- 33:17not London. I don't want to see Carter George
- 33:18go to London. But it sounds like a very London
- 33:20thing to do, to be the choir in the offseason.
- 33:23Especially with losing Elliot, because he's in
- 33:26LA. Is he? Yeah, he's in LA. I can very easily
- 33:30see them bringing him in and giving him one more
- 33:37year sitting behind. Somebody big like that.
- 33:40Now that I say that out loud, yeah, that sounds
- 33:42like something very possible for London to do.
- 33:44Fuck. But I think now that we're past the first
- 33:50round and the bottom three teams are knocked
- 33:53out, logistically, the bottom three teams are
- 33:55knocked out, you're going to start to see more
- 33:57competition. It doesn't matter whether you're
- 33:59Kitchener or Windsor or Saginaw or Erie. There's
- 34:03going to be a little bit more fight in it. And
- 34:05I wouldn't sound... didn't have the fight, doesn't
- 34:08have the skill. These other teams have that fight.
- 34:11They have this, well, I can't say they don't
- 34:13have, they obviously have the fight, they just
- 34:15don't have the skill to back it up. What I will
- 34:20say about the series, four days off, five days
- 34:23off, I think that is plenty of time to get Matthew
- 34:28and Carrie back to being ready to play a hockey
- 34:33game. Let alone playoff hockey. Which, by the
- 34:38way it looks, we're going to get one of them
- 34:41soon. Hopefully at least one of them. I think
- 34:45Carey is skating in a contact. Matthew is in
- 34:48a non -contact still. Or at least as of Saturday's
- 34:50pregame. Morning skate or whatever. But with
- 34:56the way that Sodder and Henry have been playing...
- 34:59They shut Misa down. And you know how scary he
- 35:03is. What did Misa finish with? Minus 12? Minus
- 35:0610. Three points and minus 10. Two goals and
- 35:09assists. So imagine he didn't get those. He'd
- 35:11have been a minus 13, minus 14. Which I will
- 35:15give, which I am very impressed with. He literally
- 35:19shut him down. What I wonder, is that going to
- 35:23scare away some of the top 10 teams to draft
- 35:27him early? Is that going to make him drop out
- 35:29of the top ten? He's still predicted to go top
- 35:32three. I still think he's going to be top three.
- 35:35Just based off his regular season. I mean, I
- 35:39wouldn't hate him coming to Pittsburgh. You know,
- 35:41we have a lot of draft picks that we can trade
- 35:43to get a top five pick. Steal somebody like a
- 35:46Porter Mortone, a Michael Mesa. Don't get me
- 35:49wrong. I can see him dropping just a little bit
- 35:51because that definitely does hurt. It's going
- 35:53to hurt anybody, their draft stock. I don't think
- 35:57that's going to hurt him too incredibly much,
- 36:00if at all. Yeah. I can still see him going top
- 36:03three. He still has at least another year where
- 36:06he can grow and develop in the O with Sagma or
- 36:09if somebody is ballsy enough to go out and get
- 36:12him, then that team, London. I mean, that's one
- 36:17of those. Mace is one of those players that you'll
- 36:19see like a break off sized. Return, like, 14
- 36:23picks for Michael Measers. He's one of those
- 36:26you'll see a hefty, like, seven picks and two
- 36:29younger players. Also, I think he is the third
- 36:32player to get that exceptional, like, status
- 36:36in the OHL. So, obviously, the last one was McDavid
- 36:40and the previous was Tavares. So, obviously,
- 36:44that's going to be kind of a big key. There's
- 36:49a reason why he was able to do that. He's a good
- 36:52player. And NHL teams know that they're going
- 36:56to get an exceptional player out of Michael Mesa.
- 36:59Yeah, we'll see that. But back to this, London
- 37:01versus Erie. If we can get both of Matthew Schaefer
- 37:07and Kerry Terrance back in the lineup, team captain,
- 37:10huge morale boost, number one defenseman, huge
- 37:14morale boost on the back end. Do we still have
- 37:20a chance to win? Probably not. It's going to
- 37:25take a lot of bounce. It's going to take a lot
- 37:27of blood, a lot of sweat, a lot of tears. Do
- 37:32we still stand a chance with those two back in
- 37:34the lineup? Better, but not great. Still not
- 37:39great. I'm sorry. If we get one of those, if
- 37:43we get Carey back and Matthews still out? That's
- 37:47still a lot of morale boosts, getting your captain
- 37:49back out there. It's going to be a shorter series
- 37:52with one of them still being out. Obviously,
- 37:55it's a stupid short series if both of them are
- 37:58still out. I do, regardless, even if neither
- 38:00one of them come back in, I can't honestly see
- 38:03us stealing one in the EIA. We know, Oliver Bunk
- 38:07has told us and let us know that they don't like
- 38:09playing in that barn, that they do not like Erie
- 38:11fans, they do not like playing in this barn.
- 38:13Oliver Bunk said it himself. They can say, oh,
- 38:15one -sided rivalry, all the fuck they want. Oliver
- 38:18Bunk let us know that that's not true. We can
- 38:22very easily steal at least one game here in Erie,
- 38:25whether it's game three or game four. I think
- 38:27we can steal one here in Erie. If we get both
- 38:30of them back, it could be possibly coming back
- 38:34to Erie one more time for game six, I think,
- 38:37at least. Win that game six and four. Seven is
- 38:41a different question. That's also assuming Noah
- 38:45Erdlund pays up to the potential of the, you
- 38:48know, OHL fans. I've seen him pay. Like, I know
- 38:52with him being a smaller stature, that really
- 38:54hurts. He's only, what, 5 '7", a buck 70, I think?
- 38:57Yeah, he's small. He's a small dude. Like, he's
- 38:59small for him. I know Burns is a bit taller,
- 39:01but his, again, size -wise, he's not much better.
- 39:03I think he's a buck 80, buck 90. He's like 6
- 39:05'2", 6 '1", 6 '2". You know, other than 5 '11",
- 39:09a buck 70, soaking wet. That sounds familiar.
- 39:14I know that really doesn't play in this favor.
- 39:19London is very good at taking advantage of the
- 39:24smaller goaltenders. They know exactly where
- 39:28to be at the net, right place, right time. They
- 39:30know exactly what to do. That's just the Dale
- 39:33Hunter way. All in all, if we say going into
- 39:39the series the exact same way it is at this moment,
- 39:42I think it's going to be London in five. If we
- 39:45can get one or if not both of those guys back,
- 39:47it could go seven. It honestly could go seven.
- 39:53Again, do I still think we're going to get shut
- 39:55down if it goes to seven? There's a good chance
- 39:58of it. I don't think London is going to lose
- 40:00a game seven on home ice. But again, if we go
- 40:04in the way it is right now, I'm going to say
- 40:06London takes it in five. If we get both back,
- 40:09I say we push it to seven. It would be a miracle
- 40:14if we end up pulling off with the roster we have.
- 40:17Yeah. It would be a miracle if we pull it off
- 40:19with both those guys back on the lineup. If we
- 40:22pull it off with both these guys still out, you
- 40:25know I'm going to be running my mouth on Twitter.
- 40:26I will tell you that right the fuck now. I will
- 40:28not shut up on Twitter if we win with both these
- 40:31guys still out. If we win period. If we win period,
- 40:34I'll still run my fucking mouth. If we win period,
- 40:36you know... Put the fucking L in the forehead
- 40:43where it belongs. You do realize, like, if Erie
- 40:46ends up pulling this off, how much of a... Not
- 40:50only of a confidence booster will that be to
- 40:52the team and the organization, but how much momentum
- 40:55they will have for the third round, regardless
- 40:57of who comes out of the Windsor Kitchener series.
- 41:00Yeah, I was saying, regardless... If we survive
- 41:03this, we are going to be beat the fuck up. We
- 41:07are going to be roughed up, and we are going
- 41:10to be a tired... But you're going to have to
- 41:13be coming out of the West. Like, look at three
- 41:16of the four final teams. You've got the three
- 41:18top teams in the O. We beat London and then have
- 41:21to go on to play either Kitchener or Windsor?
- 41:24Not only do you have the three best players in
- 41:27the OHL, you have arguably the three best teams
- 41:31in the CHL. In London, Kitchener, and Windsor.
- 41:35You're going to beat the fuck up at the end of
- 41:37this tournament. I'm sorry, there's nothing around
- 41:39that. I saw some scouts or some people saying,
- 41:43like, whoever wins this London Erie series is
- 41:45going all the way. I saw somebody say that. Somebody
- 41:49truly believes if we beat London, that we can
- 41:51beat either Kitchener or Windsor. That's the
- 41:54thing. Getting over this major sweep up. Getting
- 41:56over this mountain. My thing is, if we do beat
- 41:59London, man, are we going to have enough energy
- 42:02left to try to get through Kitchener or Windsor?
- 42:05That high. That victory high. Hey, if we beat
- 42:09London, we can beat anybody. Pretty much. You
- 42:13know that because London is the heavy favorite
- 42:16to go all the way. I'm sorry, but they are. I
- 42:18mean, I said that at the beginning. I said that
- 42:20still a month left of the season. I said that
- 42:22they were going to repeat. So if we beat London,
- 42:26you will go all the way. I mean, I would love
- 42:30to see it. Obviously, everybody in this room,
- 42:32everybody in the city of Erie would love to see
- 42:35that. Everybody that's in that building would
- 42:37love to see that. Is it going to happen? It is
- 42:41beyond a dream. But if we can get both of our
- 42:45guys back, it'll be a fight. But all in all,
- 42:49for the prediction, I do think London is going
- 42:52to take the series. I'll put it right down the
- 42:57middle. I'll say in six, just to call it even
- 42:59right down the middle. It could go five. But
- 43:03deep down, biased out the fucking window, I do
- 43:07not see us getting swept. I really do not see
- 43:10any scenario where we go down and get swept.
- 43:13I don't see them being swept whatsoever. I think
- 43:17I'm also going to be on the same boat with Kyle
- 43:20being right down the middle in six. I feel like
- 43:24if we can get both Kerry and Matthew back, it's
- 43:27a whole new ballgame for that. But... Sorry,
- 43:34I tried to be calm to it. But I, um... Yeah,
- 43:41I'll do a rate down the note just because it
- 43:43can't... Depending, it could be five, it could
- 43:46be seven. So I'll just say London in six. And
- 43:50it's tough, man. It's so tough. Five or six in
- 43:54London. I'm sorry, I'm showing my bias. Five
- 44:00or six. I'm sorry, I'll try to be more positive.
- 44:08Everybody knows that we're Otters fans and that
- 44:10we're all season ticket holders. We don't think
- 44:13that we've hit, we have not done a good job at
- 44:15hiding our bias when it comes, especially when
- 44:16it comes to the Otters. A little bit better when
- 44:18it comes to the NHL with the Penguins, but very
- 44:21tough to hide our bias when it comes to the Erie
- 44:23Otters. A team that plays, that we can walk to
- 44:25go see. I wonder how you can tell we're a little
- 44:28biased. that some of us are all biased to otters.
- 44:31She's got otter shit everywhere. They got the
- 44:33Erie Panthers one. Yeah. I was going to say,
- 44:36I have a wall. That wall is all otters. I hope
- 44:40you know. Mine is a Stanley Cup in the corner.
- 44:43Yeah, you're right. Stanley Cup, the Penguins,
- 44:45and then the... Some bobbleheads. The Sabres.
- 44:48You got a cup, you got a mug, you got some posters.
- 44:51World's best hockey fan. We got that at the Erie
- 44:54Otters office night. All right, let's move on
- 44:58to some NHL talk. We can do some weekly Puck
- 45:01Doku or Hurdle, whatever we want to do first.
- 45:05Ready, eeny, meeny, miny, that's the best one.
- 45:07Okay, cool. Hurdle. Hurdle. I can see it. Not
- 45:27in close. Sorry. Absolutely nothing. Well, he's
- 45:31in the West. We know he plays in the West, yeah.
- 45:33He's in the West. And he's not Swedish. Not Swedish.
- 45:37Not a defenseman. He's 30 or below, and his number
- 45:43is 74 or below. Honestly, the one we chose was
- 45:46Victor Hedman. I was going to say Sean Monahan,
- 45:52but I can't because he's with Columbus. Just
- 45:58throw it out there like a Marc -Andre Fleury?
- 46:00Just try to get the... Oh, no, the age would
- 46:02be way off, so no. His head's shaped like an
- 46:05upside -down pear. Why don't we go with, like,
- 46:08a... How old's, like, a UC Saras? How old is
- 46:10he? He's younger. Okay, all right. He's in the
- 46:18Central, and he's 29 years old, and he's not
- 46:20a goaltender, so we know he's a forward in the
- 46:23Central division who is not Swedish or Finnish,
- 46:26and his number is... No, we can say below 70.
- 46:2970 or below. So he's a forward in the central.
- 46:39Where's Taylor? No, Taylor Hall got traded to
- 46:40Carolina. But how updated is this? Well, still,
- 46:47Taylor Hall's number in Chicago is like 71. I
- 46:50know the age is going to be off, but it'll at
- 46:53least give us a position and a nationality. Okay,
- 47:00he's not a winger. He's not Canadian. He still
- 47:05could be a right winger, though. A right winger
- 47:07or a center. Who's 29 years old, could be American,
- 47:11could be Russian. And not Nashville, not Dallas.
- 47:17So let's try to guess like an American center.
- 47:24Up in Winnipeg. Like a Logan Stanley? Well, I'm
- 47:30thinking of he played for Team USA. Kyle Conner.
- 47:35Who? Could be. But that's not Kyle Conner, actually.
- 47:39No. Because he has striped hair. But Logan Stanley
- 47:42could be a good guess. Is he American? I think
- 47:45so. He's younger, but I don't know how young.
- 47:50Is Mark Scheifele American or is he Canadian?
- 47:53He's Canadian. I thought he was Canadian. Yeah,
- 47:55because he was on the same team as Crosby in
- 47:572010. Does he go for a Logan Stanley? That's
- 48:02the best guess I got at the moment. No, okay.
- 48:07He's always a defenseman. He's 26. He's Canadian.
- 48:12I thought he was a center. Keep in mind his number
- 48:17is 10 or below. I'm looking at Jamie Benn's number.
- 48:2110 or below. It could be like 11. I think that
- 48:25one goes. About a 2? 2 or 3. No, I think it is
- 48:2810 below. Okay. Yeah, because 11 would be yellow
- 48:31then. So 10 or below. So he's a 10 or below,
- 48:35or could even just say single digit. Centerman.
- 48:39Oh! No, Jack Eichel plays it in the West. In
- 48:42Vegas. So Pacific. Pacific. I initially was going
- 48:45to say that earlier. It does look like a Jack
- 48:48Eichel kind of hairdo, though. That's why initially...
- 48:51It's a little bit shorter. That's the thing.
- 48:56Ryan O 'Reilly, but he's Canadian. His number
- 48:59is 90. Oh, I'm thinking how funny it is. It's
- 49:03still 90. I thought he was 9 in Colorado. Was
- 49:08he 9 in Colorado? He was 9 in Colorado and in
- 49:11the area. I'm just trying to think of centers.
- 49:21He plays on Chicago that we just played today.
- 49:26I'm telling you to be dead! No, no. I know one
- 49:32would be Kairou, because he's Canadian and his
- 49:36number's 15. Uh, 25. 20. Yeah. Christian is 15.
- 49:44Who? Exactly. Uh... Could it be somebody on Lake
- 49:52St. Louis, though? This was tough. I'm trying
- 50:03to think of... It's probably that fucking fourth
- 50:07liner that we have no idea. So what are the last
- 50:12teams? We got Chicago. We got Minnesota. We got
- 50:15St. Louis. We got Utah. Utah's Pacific. Are they
- 50:19Pacific? They're Pacific. Colorado. Colorado.
- 50:27Can't forget Colorado. Can't be, you know, if
- 50:31they can't be a Cohen car. Once again, I'm trying
- 50:38to think of an American that plays for Colorado.
- 50:45What number is Logan O 'Connor? I think he's
- 50:51like a 9, like 9 or 10. Because both him and
- 50:53Drew are pretty young. Go for it. Is he on Colorado?
- 50:58Yeah, he's Colorado. Damn, okay. He's American.
- 51:04He's American, okay. And he's a center. We know
- 51:07for sure that he's a center. He's not a defenseman,
- 51:10left winger, right winger, or defenseman. Or
- 51:12goaltender. So, he is a center for either Chicago,
- 51:17Minnesota, St. Louis. Who's that? Who's that
- 51:26eighth freaking team? Minnesota, Colorado. Winnipeg,
- 51:31Nashville, St. Louis, Dallas. Are we sure Utah's
- 51:41not in the Central? I swear they're still in
- 51:46the Pacific. So I thought Utah bumped over to
- 51:52the Central when Vegas came in. Oh, but Utah
- 51:56is in the Central. Okay, so it could be somebody
- 51:58on Utah. Logan Cooley is number 90. He's still
- 52:01pretty young. Could be Logan Cooley. Go for Logan
- 52:05Cooley. That's definitely an American name too.
- 52:12It's on Utah. Okay. He's number 20. Okay. What
- 52:17number is like Sean Jersey? I think he's number
- 52:2021. Logan Cooley is 92. I was looking at the
- 52:25age. He's 29 -year -old, plays for Utah. He's
- 52:35a center. He's a number... He's a single -digit
- 52:38number. Or 10. What number is Clayton Keller?
- 52:47Oh, fuck. I was just watching one of the games.
- 52:49Is he 9? I am 9. Could it be Clayton Keller?
- 52:58It's not Clayton Keller. He is nine. I was right.
- 53:01Seven or eight. Seven, eight. Could be even six.
- 53:08Six, seven, eight. Five, three. Three on my own.
- 53:17That was our last guess. There's two in between
- 53:20Gunther and Doan. I can't remember what their
- 53:24numbers are. Josh Doan? Yeah. I want to say Gunther's
- 53:29like 23, 25 -ish in that range. And Doan's way
- 53:33too young. Yeah, Doan's too young. Doan's not
- 53:3529 years old. He must have been the oldest draft
- 53:40pick then. Yeah. This past draft. Bukestad is
- 53:43not. He's too old. No, he's way too old. John
- 53:49Marino's defenseman, but that age would be close.
- 53:52He's a little bit younger. I would have said
- 53:54that already. I promise you that. The kicker
- 53:59for the dolphin. Robbie, I'm going to fucking
- 54:03kick you. My only name that comes to mind is
- 54:07like a shot of Jersey, but I think, one, I think
- 54:09he's a defenseman too. I think he's like 28 or
- 54:13something. Jersey's a Ford. Is he? Jersey's a
- 54:15Ford. What's his number? I don't know. Is he
- 54:18American? I got nothing. We're really right on
- 54:37the... We're going to be pissed with ourselves.
- 54:39Just you watch. Again, if it's like a fourth
- 54:42liner, I can't be that pissed off. I got nothing.
- 54:52I got nothing. New Jersey's my best guess, but
- 54:54I don't know what number he is. He's DR? Can't
- 55:11find his name. I'm going to have to spell check
- 55:21myself. It says D -U -R -U -Z -I or something
- 55:24like that. Well, good thing I checked. He's a
- 55:40divester. Okay. Yeah, I know it's cheating. Nick
- 55:48Schmaltz. Okay, that makes sense. We cheated
- 55:51a little bit, but we got 85 % of it. Let's redeem
- 55:57ourselves with some doku. All right, going across
- 56:02for the columns, it's Carolina, Smashville, and
- 56:06the Shorts. And for the Rose, it's CBJ, Calgary,
- 56:12and under 1 ,000 career games played. Well. Okay.
- 56:26Well, we can do a Saul Greener for San Jose and
- 56:30games played. Or Will Smith. 7%. We know Coltender
- 56:40probably has, so Soros. And then... Um... There's
- 56:49somebody yellow over there right now. I'm not
- 56:53staying open. Um... Oh, I can picture... I can
- 56:59picture his face. Came down from Montreal. Looks
- 57:03like a fucking troll. I'd say just fetch a cup
- 57:13just to get one on there. Okay. I can see his
- 57:26fucking face, too. I'm going to look this up.
- 57:28I'm sorry. This is going to really piss me off.
- 57:40Just for a cock and yammy. Cock and yammy, okay.
- 57:46Not gonna lie boys, the rest of this is looking
- 57:48pretty tough. Yeah, this one's, I got fucking
- 57:59nothing. I'm sure they have the, people have
- 58:02played the Sharks. Mike Hoffman. Nashville, New
- 58:11York, the Rangers, Montreal. I know he had a
- 58:17stop in San Jose. Did he have a stop in Columbus?
- 58:21No. Neither place. Rangers, Bruins, and Blue
- 58:31Jackets. So only one team on here. This one's
- 58:47nice. Evander Kane was Winnipeg, Manta, Buffalo,
- 58:53San Jose, 9 or 10. Mike Sillinger, I want to
- 59:05say is Nashville, Columbus. I'm pretty sure those
- 59:10are two of the 10 or 11 teams he played for.
- 59:21Yeah, I'm... I'm not having a whole lot of guesses
- 59:24on any of them. These ones are tough. Want to
- 59:28throw Cylinder on there? My best guess would
- 59:31be for Columbus. Nashville. Yeah, alright. 90%.
- 59:39Columbus, Carolina, Columbus, Sharks. We are
- 59:48not doing good today, boys. No, no, no, never
- 1:00:08mind. I don't think Freddie Anderson ever played
- 1:00:11for Calgary. No, he... Wasn't he somewhere before
- 1:00:16Toronto? CBJ. He was drafted by CBJ. Freddie
- 1:00:19Anderson? Oh, no, drafted by Anaheim. Anaheim,
- 1:00:22Toronto, Carolina. I'm thinking of Bobrovsky.
- 1:00:26That's why. Because Bob did CBJ, Flyers, Florida.
- 1:00:30He did Flyers, CBJ. Flyers, CBJ, whatever. Either
- 1:00:34way, those are the teams. You sure Mike Hoffman
- 1:00:41never touched Calgary or Carolina? Or Columbus,
- 1:00:44sorry. No. Okay. Because I know we had a very
- 1:00:48short stint. Maybe like a one -year stint with
- 1:00:50San Jose. What about like a world in the end
- 1:00:59you play? Sharks. Dallas. Pittsburgh. You play
- 1:01:11for a lot of teams. Quite a few. A lot of teams.
- 1:01:15So let's try to face some of those goaltenders
- 1:01:17that jumped around. Mike Smith jumped around
- 1:01:18a lot. Cam Talbot's jumped around a lot. Mike
- 1:01:21Smith has done Calgary, Edmonton. Is that a hit?
- 1:01:27I think he had Arizona. Arizona. It doesn't help
- 1:01:30us here. Cam Talbot's done L .A. He's done both
- 1:01:35Alberta teams. He's done Minnesota. He's in the
- 1:01:39East now, which doesn't help us. Roll did Eric,
- 1:01:47where's all his Eric style played? Carolina,
- 1:01:51Buffalo, Bluecoats, Minnesota. Montreal. Montreal.
- 1:01:59Florida too, right? Yeah, Florida. Mark has done
- 1:02:04Rags, Panthers, and Red Wings, Florida, Flyers.
- 1:02:13That's what he did a year in Flyers, didn't he?
- 1:02:15Or name players that aren't helping us at all.
- 1:02:18Oh, finally, I can think of anyone. Tyler Toffoli?
- 1:02:21Flames Sharks? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:02:24yeah. Let's get the ball rolling, boys. Let's
- 1:02:26get that momentum going. All right. I'm trying
- 1:02:33to think. I don't know if Flames or McDonald's
- 1:02:35playing anywhere else other than Calgary. Mike
- 1:02:43Vernon, I don't know where else he would have
- 1:02:45went. Huberto has only been, what, just Florida
- 1:02:52and Calgary, right? McDonough's been with Nashville.
- 1:03:00Nashville. Rangers. Tampa. Rangers. I think that's
- 1:03:04it. I can't remember if he had a small stint
- 1:03:08in Calgary. Mark Giordano has done Calgary. Toronto.
- 1:03:13Has he done anywhere else? I feel like he might
- 1:03:15have been somewhere before Calgary. But where?
- 1:03:20Then you got Ethan's favorite player. What about
- 1:03:23Ron Hainsey? I was thinking Milo Nunes has been
- 1:03:28around a while. Has he played for Carolina or
- 1:03:31Nashville? I know he played for Calgary. I thought
- 1:03:35he had a small stint with Columbus, didn't he?
- 1:03:38I don't remember. Jakub Voracek. He did Columbus.
- 1:03:44Columbus. And like you said, Ron Haines was everywhere.
- 1:03:50Didn't really do much, unfortunately, other than
- 1:03:52in Pittsburgh. Like Billy Guerin, he also jumped
- 1:03:58everywhere before finishing off in Pittsburgh.
- 1:04:03I got nothing. Small is a little tougher. I'm
- 1:04:17just going to say Mike Vernon for Calgary, Nashville.
- 1:04:20It's a guess. I don't think he played for Nashville.
- 1:04:23But, no, okay. O 'Reilly doesn't fit anywhere.
- 1:04:32Yager doesn't fit anywhere. I should probably
- 1:04:39drop that. Just a guess. Throw it out there.
- 1:04:45That's right, he's retired. I know you don't
- 1:04:46like him, but where all has Jake Wallman played?
- 1:04:50Sharks, Detroit. Where was he before? I think
- 1:04:53he was somewhere before Detroit. I know he got
- 1:04:56traded out of San Jose. Where is he now? Where
- 1:05:02did he get traded out? I know he got traded out
- 1:05:03of San Jose. St. Louis, Nashville, Central. Is
- 1:05:07it Central? Central. I thought it was Central.
- 1:05:14I got nothing, man. Like a Forbes, like Philip
- 1:05:24Forsberg? Well, he only fit in the Nashville
- 1:05:29category. Because he hasn't played for San Jose,
- 1:05:33he hasn't played for Carolina. Definitely not
- 1:05:35for CBJ. I got nothing. My only others would
- 1:05:40be like a Ron Francis for... Carolina Calgary,
- 1:05:43but other than that, I have nothing. I don't
- 1:05:47think he played for Calgary, no. I'm done out.
- 1:05:51I'm done. The one that's bothering me is Nashville
- 1:05:56Calgary. Yeah, that one's bothering the shit
- 1:05:59out of me. Fucking James the Real Deal Neal.
- 1:06:05God damn it. I forgot he got him from Nashville.
- 1:06:11They don't ever give him to them. He went to
- 1:06:13Nashville and we got Horquist, right? Horquist,
- 1:06:16right. Horquist. I think Nick Spalling was in
- 1:06:19that deal. David Red. Big Save Dave. Mark Jankowski.
- 1:06:24Tyson Berry. Callie Arncroft. Eric Branson. Zach
- 1:06:28Renato. Damn, dude. That was bad. Dougie Hamilton
- 1:06:34for Calgary Carolina. Dougie Hamilton. Dougie.
- 1:06:39J .S. Jaguar. Jaguar. Jankowski again. Jack Roslevic,
- 1:06:47that's recent. Ryan Dezingle, Jake Bean. Curtis
- 1:06:49McElhinney. Damn. Damn it all to hell. Well,
- 1:06:58shit. Well, I'll go through my milestones, and
- 1:07:08I have two categories of that. I guess the category
- 1:07:11game. Milestones. March 23rd, the LA Kings set
- 1:07:16a new franchise record for the longest home point
- 1:07:18streak with 14 games. March 24th, Stars General
- 1:07:22Manager Jim Neal recorded his 500th win, the
- 1:07:24first ever Stars General Manager to reach that
- 1:07:27milestone. And Alex Dobrynkat suppressed 500
- 1:07:30career points with a two -point game against
- 1:07:32Utah. What did he bring? March 27th, we are at
- 1:07:35that game. With his goal against the Sabres,
- 1:07:37Sidney Crosby breaks Wayne Gretzky's record for
- 1:07:39the most point -per -game seasons in NHL history
- 1:07:42with 20. Again, those are all in a row to start
- 1:07:45his career. Just wanted to put that out there.
- 1:07:47And again, we just mentioned earlier, Ryan McDonough
- 1:07:49played in his 1 ,000th career game. March 29th,
- 1:07:54Cam Lund of the San Jose Sharks scored his first
- 1:07:56career goal against the Rangers. Queer? Queer.
- 1:07:59Queer. And Leon Dreisaitl scored his 50th goal
- 1:08:02the fourth time he's reached that milestone.
- 1:08:04The only current active player with more 50 -goal
- 1:08:08seasons? Alex Ovechkin with nine. March 30th,
- 1:08:13Alex Markov played in his 800th game, and Rasmus
- 1:08:16Dahling played in his 500th. On the 31st, Matt
- 1:08:20Boldy scored his 100th career goal against New
- 1:08:22Jersey. And Nathan McKinnon becomes the first
- 1:08:24player in Avalanche history to record back -to
- 1:08:27-back. 80 assist seasons. March 1st, or April
- 1:08:321st, sorry, April Fool's Day, Mark Stone played
- 1:08:35in his 700th career game, and Lane Hudson breaks
- 1:08:37the Montreal franchise record for points by a
- 1:08:40rookie defenseman with 57. April 2nd, Sergei
- 1:08:44Bobrovsky played in his 750th career game, and
- 1:08:48JT Miller recorded point number 900 with an assist
- 1:08:51against Minnesota. April 3rd, Rutger McGrody
- 1:08:55of the Pittsburgh Penguins got his first career
- 1:08:57point with an assist to a Brian Russ goal and
- 1:08:59would go on to score his first goal all against
- 1:09:04St. Louis. And in that same game, Vili Koivunen
- 1:09:07recorded his first point with an assist to Rutger's
- 1:09:10goal. On March 4th, Ryan Leonard of the Washington
- 1:09:14Capitals got his first career goal with an empty
- 1:09:17netter against Chicago. April 5th, Brian Russ
- 1:09:20scored his 200th career goal against Dallas.
- 1:09:22And Mark Scheifele recorded his 800th point against
- 1:09:25Utah. And obviously, just earlier today, Alex
- 1:09:29Ovechkin, the man, he did it. Broke Wayne Gretzky's
- 1:09:33all -time goals record, scoring goal number 895
- 1:09:37against the New York Islanders. And Sam Renzel,
- 1:09:41the Chicago Blackhawks, scored his first career
- 1:09:43point with an assist to an Ilya Mikheyev goal
- 1:09:46against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Alex Ovechkin,
- 1:09:50man, what? We saw history. History was made.
- 1:09:54Again, obviously, did we talk about this earlier?
- 1:09:56I think we did. Did we touch on it? No. I don't
- 1:09:58think we did yet. We have not yet. We were talking
- 1:10:00about doing it off camera. I was telling these
- 1:10:03guys, I watched the entire first period, sat
- 1:10:05there and watched the whole first period, nothing
- 1:10:06happened. I was like, cool. I went up and I had
- 1:10:08to go out and do something. Go meet with a mutual
- 1:10:11friend, had a party that I had to go attend.
- 1:10:14As I'm getting into the car to start driving,
- 1:10:16Colin sends a message. He did it. 895. Are you
- 1:10:19fucking kidding me? Quickly turn it on on the
- 1:10:21channel in the game, and they're in the middle
- 1:10:23of the ceremony. I'm like, motherfucker. Son
- 1:10:25of a bitch. But we have witnessed greatness.
- 1:10:29My only question is, can he hit 900 this year?
- 1:10:35He's going to have to push. He's got five goals.
- 1:10:38They've got, what, six, seven games left to get
- 1:10:40five more goals? I mean. Five. Five more goals,
- 1:10:45obviously. Five games? Five games. Five games,
- 1:10:47five goals. They can do it, man. The thing is,
- 1:10:51though, if he gets stuck at 899, does he call
- 1:10:53it a career or does he come back for one more
- 1:10:55to break 900 next season? Well, he has one more
- 1:10:57year under contract. Does he? After this season.
- 1:10:59So, regardless, he's coming back. The question
- 1:11:03is, does he do it this season or does he do it
- 1:11:05early next season? So, he's going to hit 900,
- 1:11:08but does he do it this season? I'm going to go
- 1:11:10out on a limb and say yes. I'm going to say he
- 1:11:12hits it. I think he'll finish this year with
- 1:11:14exactly 900. I think he'll do it last game. I
- 1:11:17think he'll hit 900. Ironically against Pittsburgh
- 1:11:21Penguins. I think it's kind of crazy. He can
- 1:11:23be the first player to ever score 900 goals.
- 1:11:25Obviously, he'll be the first player to ever
- 1:11:26score 896, 897, 898. But, yeah, he will be the
- 1:11:31first and only player to ever score 900 goals,
- 1:11:33and he'll do it against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
- 1:11:35I think he will. I'd say it's been an incredible
- 1:11:38journey just listening. following this storyline
- 1:11:41for the last couple years. Three or four years
- 1:11:45ago, he still got quite a ways. I don't think
- 1:11:47he's going to do it. He's getting old. He's slowing
- 1:11:50down. Each of the last three or four seasons,
- 1:11:53he's had 30 or 40 goal years. Alright, we'll
- 1:11:56shut up. Let's look at the playoff chase, boys.
- 1:12:01Let's look at the East first. Currently, there
- 1:12:03are five teams locked in. Two from Metro, three
- 1:12:06from Atlantic. Top two teams respectively, Washington
- 1:12:09and Carolina, both locked in. Washington with
- 1:12:13five games left on their schedule. They're sitting
- 1:12:16at 107 points, 49 -19 -9. And Carolina is sitting
- 1:12:23at 96 points with six games left, 46 -26 -4.
- 1:12:28Still waiting for that third team to lock in.
- 1:12:30Right now, New Jersey holds it. They have five
- 1:12:34games left, 41 -29 -7 at 89 points. The next
- 1:12:38closest team in the Metro is New York Rangers
- 1:12:41at 79 points, who sit four points out of their
- 1:12:44spot with six games remaining at 36 -33 -7. I
- 1:12:48doubt New York's going to catch the Devils, but
- 1:12:51they could catch Montreal, who's in the second
- 1:12:53wildcard spot, which I'll get to later. Atlantic
- 1:12:56Division, you know, soccer. Number one, Toronto.
- 1:13:0276 games played, 47 -25 -4 from 98 points. Tampa
- 1:13:07second, Florida third. Tampa has 94, Florida
- 1:13:12has 92. That's something like a more and more
- 1:13:14likely matchup. And then the two wild card spots
- 1:13:17in the East, Ottawa, Montreal. Ottawa 90, Montreal
- 1:13:2283. Ottawa and Montreal, have we ever seen that
- 1:13:25coming? I'd say maybe one or the other, but both
- 1:13:29Ottawa and Montreal fighting for a wildcard spot.
- 1:13:32Well, I mean, there's only two Canadian teams
- 1:13:38on the outside looking in, both being Calgary
- 1:13:40and Vancouver. And then two teams from the east
- 1:13:44already eliminated Philadelphia and Boston. Boston.
- 1:13:48I think I read earlier, Pittsburgh has a 0 .2
- 1:13:51% chance to make the playoffs right now. Yeah.
- 1:13:54I'd say they are currently sitting... Just finish
- 1:13:57the season with a tank? Oh no, they're mathematically...
- 1:14:02Well, it depends on what Montreal does. But they're
- 1:14:07pretty much mathematically eliminated. They have
- 1:14:10four games left to make eight points. So, they're
- 1:14:15eliminated. Buffalo has a better chance than
- 1:14:17us. Eight games left. Eight points out. Or, not
- 1:14:23eight. Six. Six. Yeah. And looking at the Central,
- 1:14:28again, five in, three left. Winnipeg, Dallas,
- 1:14:33Colorado, 108, 105, 98, respectively. Vegas,
- 1:14:38LA, the two in the Pacific. Vegas has 100. LA
- 1:14:42has 97. I'm pretty sure we're going to get another
- 1:14:45LA freaking Edmonton matchup again. Yeah. What
- 1:14:48is it, four years in a row now? Something like
- 1:14:49that. Something like that, yeah. And then St.
- 1:14:51Louis and Minnesota both have wild card spot,
- 1:14:5393, 91, respectively. Five teams eliminated.
- 1:14:58You can probably guess which five teams, so I'm
- 1:15:00not even going to fucking say it. Yeah. Peat
- 1:15:04Brig. London. Saginaw, right? Regina Pats. Or
- 1:15:13not. The Rooski Oceaniac Otter Pats. The hell
- 1:15:21with those moose heads. Yeah. Looking like a
- 1:15:26typical NHL playoffs. A couple of new teams rolled
- 1:15:30in there, like Ottawa and Montreal. That's going
- 1:15:32to be pretty interesting. See if those two can
- 1:15:34make it. I really, really do want to have Montreal
- 1:15:39jump Ottawa, just so then for the first round
- 1:15:41we can have the... Toronto -Montreal. Yeah. Well,
- 1:15:45I was thinking Ottawa -Washington. Battle of
- 1:15:49the nation's capitals. Oh, yeah. But I think
- 1:15:52that would make Toronto -Montreal too then, right?
- 1:15:54Yeah, it would. Because technically Washington
- 1:15:57would get the lower wildcard spot. But right
- 1:16:01now it's Montreal. But Montreal does have a game
- 1:16:05in hand. So only time will tell. Pittsburgh's
- 1:16:10probably going to be eliminated in the morning.
- 1:16:11I'm willing to accept that. And wholeheartedly
- 1:16:16will. At this point, just tank. Tank, tank, tank.
- 1:16:22I've been standing out for a while now, but obviously
- 1:16:24they want to win. Yeah. Right. Category time.
- 1:16:30I'm going to name ten players. You guys have
- 1:16:31to name what the category is. I have two categories.
- 1:16:34One, they're both pretty easy, but the second
- 1:16:36one I am looking for an exact thing. So the first
- 1:16:39one is a little bit easier, but we'll get started
- 1:16:41here. First category. First name, Alex Ovechkin.
- 1:16:45Straight in the cup winners. First battle of
- 1:16:48all. Eventually first battle of all. No. Austin
- 1:16:52Matthews. Piersouf won the Rock of Broussard.
- 1:16:57No. Not a good guess, though. Oof. That was not
- 1:17:05going to be the one I was going to say, but...
- 1:17:07I'm trying to remember if they won the Kohlberger
- 1:17:13for rookie years. I think that one would fit
- 1:17:17so far, but that's not what I'm looking for.
- 1:17:18Okay. Quinn Hughes. Team captains. No. One of
- 1:17:25these days I'm going to make it that simple and
- 1:17:26you're not going to get it. Nope. Todd McDavid.
- 1:17:51First round picks? No, still a good guess. I
- 1:17:55was going to say that, but I wanted to wait another
- 1:17:59one, so I'm going to pass. Steven Stamkos. Pass.
- 1:18:19Pass. Damn right. Kel McCarr. Oh, God. This is
- 1:18:31going to... This is going to lock me in. I got,
- 1:18:34like, that's recording. It's like that. The hardest
- 1:18:38ones I've ever done. You guys got in the first
- 1:18:40two, both of them, I think. Yeah, you're welcome.
- 1:18:42You're welcome for that. We both nailed this.
- 1:18:50Have played international, on the international.
- 1:18:53No. Trevor Zegras. Still nothing? Still got nothing.
- 1:19:13No. Jack Hughes. Players who have at least led
- 1:19:28their teams in points for the season. No. Does
- 1:19:33that make sense? No. Ninth name, Patrick Kane.
- 1:19:49Damn, I really think I'd stomp against here.
- 1:19:51Final name, Vladimir Tarasenko. I really stumped
- 1:20:05you guys on this one, didn't I? You're going
- 1:20:08to feel pretty stupid. It is very simple. EA
- 1:20:11cover athletes. Ovi in 21. Matthews in 20 and
- 1:20:1722. Both Quinn and Jack, he's in 25. Austin McDavid
- 1:20:21on 18. Stan Close on 12. Zegers on 23. Kane,
- 1:20:25you have to go all the way back to 10. Teresanko
- 1:20:27on 17. God damn it. Damn, I did not expect to
- 1:20:30stump you guys on that one. Wow. All right. And
- 1:20:34the second one, this is the one I'm looking for
- 1:20:35an exact, like a specific thing. First name,
- 1:20:41Jordan Stahl. I'm going to pass this one. I'm
- 1:20:47also going to pass. Anders Lee. Pass. Captain
- 1:20:57in the Metro. No, that's a good one. Alex Barkov.
- 1:21:09Anderson, he spent his whole career in New York,
- 1:21:10so that won't make sense. Pass. Pass. Roman Yossi.
- 1:21:36I hope we don't have that clock up there. It's
- 1:21:38like adding more pressure for whatever reason.
- 1:21:44Pass. Made to the conference final. No. Anze
- 1:21:51Kopitar. Captains over the age of 35. You're
- 1:22:01on the right track. Exactly. You're on the right
- 1:22:04track with captains. I'll tell you that right
- 1:22:05now. Pass. Connor McDavid. That just threw a
- 1:22:17wrench. I was going to say captains that are
- 1:22:22the same age, but obviously McDavid is not the
- 1:22:25same age as Jordan Stahl or Anze. I'm going to
- 1:22:37pass this round. Played over 1 ,000 games. No.
- 1:22:41I mean, not 1 ,000 games. 1 ,000 points. No,
- 1:22:45still not bad. Yeah, Hunter's league's not even
- 1:22:46close. Jamie Benn. Oh, that ain't even worth
- 1:22:51it. Every time I'm like, next round I'm going
- 1:22:55to do this, and it's wrong. What are you thinking?
- 1:22:58Well, originally I was going to say captains
- 1:23:00that were drafted in the first round, but Jamie
- 1:23:02Benn wasn't a first -rounder. Okay. So that's
- 1:23:05not it. I'm not 100 % sure if Anders Lee was
- 1:23:08either, but... I think all the other ones do
- 1:23:12line up, though. Yeah. Oh, here, hold on. Let
- 1:23:15me look that up real fast. I'll pass, but I don't...
- 1:23:23After what Colin... Next, Gabe Landeskog. Yeah,
- 1:23:33Anders Lee was sixth round in 2009. So you said
- 1:23:37Gabe Lanscott. Gabe Lanscott. Can you go through
- 1:23:57the list up until this point? Jordan Stahl, Anders
- 1:24:01Lee, Alex Barkov, Roman Yossi, Anze Kopitar.
- 1:24:06Connor McDavid, Jamie Benn, Gabe Landeskog. Captains
- 1:24:11that have played somewhere in the CHL. No. Okay.
- 1:24:17Not bad. I was going to say something similar,
- 1:24:20but I'll at least try to, like, play board captains
- 1:24:24for their specific, doesn't matter what junior,
- 1:24:28what league, but at least a captain for their
- 1:24:31respective junior league. No, no. Second to last
- 1:24:34name, Alex Ovechkin. Oh, of course, if I want
- 1:24:38to wait one more. Nothing. Nothing. Final name,
- 1:24:51Sid the Kid, Sidney Crosby. I got nothing. I
- 1:25:13know. Stumped on both of them. This one I was
- 1:25:16looking for. The longest tenured captains from
- 1:25:1910 to 1. Oh, oh. So Crosby's the longest tenured
- 1:25:23out of those 10, except for him at the bottom.
- 1:25:25Jordan Stahl's the most recent out of the 10
- 1:25:27longest. Okay. Obviously, Crosby goes all the
- 1:25:31way back to, what, 2006, 2007? And then Ovechkin's,
- 1:25:34like, 07, 08. I think Landis Clark was 10, 11.
- 1:25:37Ben was, like, 10, 11. Ovechkin didn't get it
- 1:25:40until, like, 09, 10. Yeah. The first four, I
- 1:25:43think Ben was also 12 -13, but then there was
- 1:25:45a huge jump. McDavid didn't get named captain
- 1:25:47until 17 -18 or something like that. His second
- 1:25:50year in the league. And then Kopitar, Yossi,
- 1:25:53Barkov, Lee, and Stalov are all within the same
- 1:25:56two -year period of 18 -19 to 19 -20. Those are
- 1:26:00the longest tenured captains from 10 -1. Oh,
- 1:26:05damn. I really thought you were going to at least
- 1:26:08get the cover athlete one, but I think I did
- 1:26:11good. I think I really did good on the order
- 1:26:13for that one. I had to watch after last week
- 1:26:14or after last episode putting fucking Alex Lyon
- 1:26:18at the second one or third one or whatever it
- 1:26:19was. And you are welcome for a completely fucking
- 1:26:23good order. But the last thing I think we wanted
- 1:26:27to touch on this week was award predictions.
- 1:26:30Oh, shit. I completely forgot about that. I'm
- 1:26:33not going to lie to you. I mean, Lawnmower is
- 1:26:36pretty damn easy to think about. Yeah, we can
- 1:26:43go down the list and just name off a couple names
- 1:26:48of what we think could. The Art Ross obviously
- 1:26:52is the player who leads the league in points.
- 1:26:55I think there's only two names that can reasonably
- 1:26:59do it. That'd be Nate Mack and Leon Dreisaitl.
- 1:27:03Kucherov could, if he has a really good last
- 1:27:07couple games, he could do it. But it's really
- 1:27:09looking like it's going to be probably Nate Mack.
- 1:27:12I think it'd be his second straight. Didn't he
- 1:27:14get it last year? I want to see. Or did Cooch
- 1:27:19steal last year? I don't remember. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:27:22I don't. That one's kind of a given for who can
- 1:27:26win that one. Next up, you got the Calder. The
- 1:27:33best rookie. This one can go many different ways.
- 1:27:37You got Sal Brini, you got Smith, both in San
- 1:27:41Jose. You've got that Russian kid out in Philadelphia.
- 1:27:44That's who I have. Matthew Michkov. Three names
- 1:27:48I have are Matthew Michkov, Lane Hudson out of
- 1:27:50Montreal, who's having the year of his life as
- 1:27:53a rookie, and then Dustin Wolfe, the goaltender
- 1:27:55from Calgary. Dustin can really, really make
- 1:27:58a good player. When's the last time a goalie
- 1:27:59won the Calder? Was it... Andrew Hammond in,
- 1:28:04like, 03, 04. I can't remember. It's been at
- 1:28:07least 20 -something years since the goal. It's
- 1:28:09been a long time. I have Macklin Celebrini as
- 1:28:11an honorable mention. I mean, he's still having
- 1:28:14a great year, but, I mean, he did get injured.
- 1:28:15But at the same time last year, so did Conor
- 1:28:17Bedard, and he still went on to win the Colter.
- 1:28:20So that's why I'm still putting Celebrini as
- 1:28:22a... Steve Mason in 2009. Steve Mason won a Colter.
- 1:28:26Steve Mason in 09. And Rykoff in 04. Rykoff,
- 1:28:31not Hammond. You've got Nabokov in 0 -1, and
- 1:28:34that's all the goaltenders this side of the Millennium
- 1:28:37Tournament. I did not know Steve Mason won one.
- 1:28:40Yeah, otherwise you've got Brodeur, Ed Belfort.
- 1:28:45I'm going way back. I'm in the 80s now. Tom Brasso.
- 1:28:49Okay, back to reality. I mean, Wolf could win
- 1:28:52it. He's having a hell of a year. He really is.
- 1:28:56If I were to choose out of all those, I'm honestly
- 1:28:59going to go to... The Philly guy, I'm going to
- 1:29:02say Michkov. But, I mean, popularity contest,
- 1:29:06I could see going to Celebrini. You know, just
- 1:29:09that first overall pick favorite. I think that's
- 1:29:13going to be more of an obvious choice. I think
- 1:29:16my three was, of course, obviously, Lane Hudson,
- 1:29:21Mitch Jacob, and then Dustin Wolfe were mine.
- 1:29:25But I think Salabrini is probably more going
- 1:29:27to be the... I can see him winning. It's a popularity
- 1:29:30contest. Yeah, that's what I said. It's a popularity...
- 1:29:33Well, since we're just talking about Dustin Wolf,
- 1:29:35let's stay on that thing and let's go to the
- 1:29:38Vesna. Who do we think can win the Vesna? Wow.
- 1:29:42I have three clear -cut that I think could win
- 1:29:44it. Then I have an honorable mention that I think
- 1:29:45should be in the running. I think Dustin Wolf
- 1:29:50should be in the running. For Vesna, too? For
- 1:29:52Vesna, too. You think so? For what he's doing
- 1:29:54as a rookie up in Calgary. I mean, I'm sorry,
- 1:29:58Calgary isn't the best team. No. But they're
- 1:30:01still in the hunt. They're still a bubble team.
- 1:30:03A big part of that goes to Justin Rolfe himself.
- 1:30:07I mean, kids won 25 games out of 48 starts. I
- 1:30:13mean, he's 25 -16 -7 record. 2 .63 goals against
- 1:30:18a .910 save percentage. Pretty damn good as a
- 1:30:23rookie. My three frontrunners I have, honestly,
- 1:30:28being Conor Hellenbach, Andrzej Bazalewski, I
- 1:30:31think, is back in that running, and Jake Ottinger.
- 1:30:34The Ottinger, Hellenbach one are up for the cut.
- 1:30:38They're the ones you expect to be there until
- 1:30:41one of them gets seriously injured or falls off
- 1:30:43a cliff. Vassie is back to playing how Vassie
- 1:30:46plays, and he's also doing really fucking good
- 1:30:49this year. But the honorable mention that I have
- 1:30:51that I think he should be in the running, but
- 1:30:53it won't because of those three, Darcy Kemper.
- 1:30:57He's having a hell of a year up in L .A. Or over
- 1:30:59in L .A. He's having a hell of a year. Heck of
- 1:31:03a year aside from injuries. Yeah, I mean, he's
- 1:31:06having a very good year. And then Big Steve Davis
- 1:31:08already stepped in, too. David had a really good
- 1:31:11one, too, over there. Big Rich and Kemper. I'd
- 1:31:17like to see Ottinger get one. I think Hellbuck
- 1:31:20got it last year. But I'd like to see Oninger
- 1:31:23win one because he's insane. I think he's still
- 1:31:26only 25, 26 years old. Yeah, actually, so Hellbuck
- 1:31:31has gotten it twice. He's gotten it twice now.
- 1:31:34So going back, you've got Hellbuck, Allmark,
- 1:31:38Sterkin, Fleury, Hellbuck, Dassey, Peke, Sergei,
- 1:31:44Bobrovsky, Holtby, Price, Rask. Bobrovsky, Dunquist,
- 1:31:49Thomas, Miller. All the way back to 2010. Miller!
- 1:31:54Miller! Man, Marnie Brodeur won it quite a few
- 1:32:00times. Yeah, dude. He was good for a very long
- 1:32:03time. I mean, Tim Thomas won it twice. Brodeur's
- 1:32:06won it four times. Hasek's won it a handful of
- 1:32:10times. One, two, three, four, five, six times.
- 1:32:14For Hasek? Hasek, 94, 95, 97, 98, 99, 01. Damn.
- 1:32:20It's only like three straight. 97, 98, 99. Damn.
- 1:32:26I think my honorable mention is Kemper. I think
- 1:32:31my top three are Bobrowski, Hellebuck, and Odinger.
- 1:32:36I could see Bobrowski in there too, honestly.
- 1:32:39I would say Mazzy is also another honorable too.
- 1:32:44Let's switch ships again. I mean, get the quick
- 1:32:45one out of the way, the Rocket Richard. I think
- 1:32:47there's only one clear -cut winner. It's going
- 1:32:49to be Landry. I don't think we need to touch
- 1:32:51on that one. But the heart, the MVP. Who do we
- 1:32:54think can win MVP? Honestly, after what we saw
- 1:32:59today, I think Alex Ovechkin deserves a shot
- 1:33:02at it, man. What he's doing at 39 years old,
- 1:33:06man, I mean, I really think he deserves to at
- 1:33:10least be in the conversation of it. I mean, 42
- 1:33:13goals was part of it. He's 42 goals now? 42 goals
- 1:33:17at 39 years old. He's top three. In like 65 games
- 1:33:20or something like that? And missed a handful
- 1:33:22of games because of a broken leg. Broken leg.
- 1:33:24Broken leg. Like, I'm sorry, but who the fuck
- 1:33:28are you again? And how are you so goddamn good?
- 1:33:31I don't get it. He should be in the running.
- 1:33:33Do I think he will be at the end of the day because
- 1:33:35of some of the other guys? Probably not, but
- 1:33:37he 100 % should be. He's on my list for top three.
- 1:33:40Round of my top three, I think Nate Mack's obviously
- 1:33:42going to be up there as well. You're going to
- 1:33:44go with the last five winners. Nate Mack, Connor
- 1:33:47McDavid, Matthews, Leon, and Kucherov. I have
- 1:33:51Kucherov up there as well. Ovi, Nate Mack, and
- 1:33:55Kucherov is my top three. Honestly, I think my
- 1:33:58top three was Ovi, Matthews, and McKinnon. But
- 1:34:04I think Ovi should be the one to get it this
- 1:34:07year. I think only two more that I think we should
- 1:34:09touch on that we know most about being the Norris
- 1:34:12and the Jack Adams. The Norris obviously being
- 1:34:15the best defenseman. I only have two for this
- 1:34:18one that I have an honorable mention as well.
- 1:34:20My top two being Kel McCarr and Quinn Hughes.
- 1:34:23I think those were kind of... Those are no -brainers.
- 1:34:28No -brainers. Kel McCarr is Kel McCarr and Quinn
- 1:34:31Hughes is Quinn Hughes. They're both very good.
- 1:34:36For the system of both these teams, Makar, I
- 1:34:40think, is going to be a lifetime Mav. Quinn's
- 1:34:44probably a lifetime. He's going to be a Canuck
- 1:34:46for at least a long time. Honorable mention,
- 1:34:48though, because of how he's been able to carry
- 1:34:51this team through everything they've been through,
- 1:34:54especially this past offseason, I've seen Zach
- 1:34:56Wierenski. Yeah, he's been kind of under the
- 1:35:00radar very good this year in a very not -so -good
- 1:35:04Columbus team. But you know that this team every
- 1:35:06day, they're trying their best to win then for
- 1:35:08Johnny. So you know this year was all for pride.
- 1:35:11All for pride, not for Johnny, man. I think he
- 1:35:13has done a very good job as a D -man. That veteran,
- 1:35:16I think probably the most veteran D -man. The
- 1:35:19longest tenured player on that team, I think.
- 1:35:21He's the number one guy there. Yeah, he's the
- 1:35:24number one guy there. I think he is the longest
- 1:35:26tenured guy on that team now. I think he deserves
- 1:35:30at least an honorable mention to be in the discussion
- 1:35:32for it. Finally, the Jack Adams Coach of the
- 1:35:39Year. Again, I have three, and then I have an
- 1:35:42honorable mention. My top three, I think Craig
- 1:35:45Brubé out of Toronto. I think he has it on his
- 1:35:48first year coming into that, a team that has
- 1:35:51been just heartbroken time after time after time,
- 1:35:54first -round exit after first -round exit, still
- 1:35:57able to keep this team heads up and pushing them
- 1:35:59to the finish line again to take another shot
- 1:36:03at it. As your coach, are we going to see a different
- 1:36:07result this time? Who knows? Bruce Castillo.
- 1:36:10Oh, not Bruce Castillo. Montgomery. Whoever's
- 1:36:12in fucking St. Louis. Jim Montgomery? Yeah, Montgomery.
- 1:36:16He's in St. Louis now? Remember, he got fired
- 1:36:18like three hours later. Oh, hey, he's in St.
- 1:36:20Louis now. Oh. So, and the bender that they've
- 1:36:26been on as of recently, like... They're on a
- 1:36:3010 -12 game winning streak. Yeah, they're on
- 1:36:33fire right now. Bennington's been playing out
- 1:36:35of his mind, too. So Montgomery deserves to be...
- 1:36:37Honestly, now that I think about it, you could
- 1:36:39possibly put Bennington as a mention for the
- 1:36:42Vesna, too, but he's been playing out of his
- 1:36:44mind this year. Ever since Four Nations, he's
- 1:36:47been out of his mind. That's definitely a morale
- 1:36:50booster for him playing in that tournament. Yeah,
- 1:36:53and that final win, man, just... You can tell
- 1:36:56he's... Still the same whiny bitch, but he can
- 1:37:00back it up. I haven't seen too much of it as
- 1:37:02of recently. But, you know, he deserves to run
- 1:37:07his mouth after that tournament. But, yeah, I
- 1:37:09was going to say, I feel like we can overlook
- 1:37:11with how he plays. My other two that I think
- 1:37:16are in the front running are Spencer Carberry
- 1:37:17from Washington and Scott Arnie, first year out
- 1:37:20of Winnipeg. Again. New guy coming into that
- 1:37:23team that, again, has had playoff struggles,
- 1:37:26was able to go in there and get them right back
- 1:37:28into the playoffs, right where they rightfully
- 1:37:30belong, I think, with how well they've been playing
- 1:37:31this year. I'm going to be an honorable mention
- 1:37:34to John Cooper out of Tampa Bay. Losing your
- 1:37:37team captain, the guy that literally has been
- 1:37:39probably, I think, the captain of the team since
- 1:37:41he's been there, that's all he knows. Well, after
- 1:37:44St. Louis left. How long has Cooper been there?
- 1:37:49Years. I know he's been there for quite some
- 1:37:51time. I don't know if St. Louis would have still
- 1:37:54been there when Cooper came in. I know Lekevi
- 1:37:58and Louise were captains while Stamkos was there.
- 1:38:06Early on in his career, at least. I think it's
- 1:38:15very possible that any one of those four can
- 1:38:17win. Yeah, that's about all I got for now. He
- 1:38:24was announced the interim head coach on March
- 1:38:2825th, 2013. 2013, okay. 2013. Obviously being
- 1:38:35the longest tenure. Why would he still have been
- 1:38:38there then? John Cooper, currently 57, has never
- 1:38:44seen the Toronto Maple Leafs win a Stanley Cup.
- 1:38:48He was born August 23, 1967, out of Prince George,
- 1:38:53B .C., Canada. That leaves him to win, what,
- 1:38:55May of 67? Yep. They still only won two rounds.
- 1:39:02That's still a crazy stat. The fact is, you know...
- 1:39:04They have never won more than two rounds in franchise
- 1:39:07history. Even though they have won, what, 11
- 1:39:10cups, 13 cups? They have never won more than
- 1:39:12two rounds. That's an unbelievable stat. They've
- 1:39:16won at least 22 rounds between the start of their
- 1:39:20franchise and 67. 22 rounds. At least. I'm sure
- 1:39:25there's definitely a couple appearance in the
- 1:39:27finals and losses, but... Well, that's what I'm
- 1:39:29saying. At least. Yeah, at least. And then, you
- 1:39:32know, I'm pretty sure they have more... They
- 1:39:34have more round wins between their start and
- 1:39:3867 from 67 to 2002. Or 2001, sorry. That's crazy.
- 1:39:46I think that about does it, boys. You got anything
- 1:39:48else to add? Nope. I can do a quick skim through
- 1:39:51our chat here, see if there's anything else you
- 1:39:55want to bring up. There's a lot of bullshit that
- 1:39:57went on in the chat, by the way. Yeah, there's
- 1:39:59a lot. I think we about touched on just about
- 1:40:06everything. That five -overtime game Colin sent
- 1:40:08in earlier. Cape Breton Screaming Eagles winning
- 1:40:10in five overtimes. Dude, that's almost three
- 1:40:16whole freaking games right there. Could you just
- 1:40:21imagine playing three games for the price of
- 1:40:25one? Oh, I didn't realize that the OHL had done
- 1:40:31this. The Overtime Heroes, where depending on
- 1:40:37the playoff round, if a player scores an OT goal,
- 1:40:42X amount of money goes to a charity of their
- 1:40:44choice. For Game 3, Zach and Ierea, Zach Preck
- 1:40:48scored that OT winner. $2 ,000 went to a charity
- 1:40:56of his choice. I forget what charity he chose.
- 1:40:58That's pretty cool, though. That's awesome. First
- 1:41:01round was $2 ,000. Second round was $3 ,000.
- 1:41:05$4 ,000 is the third round. And $5 ,000 in the
- 1:41:09finals. From the OHL. I hope we get seven overtimes
- 1:41:14in the finals. I want all overtimes. All seven
- 1:41:19games to go to overtime. All overtimes, every
- 1:41:22single game from here on out. It would be, what,
- 1:41:23$35 ,000 of charity in the finals alone? Yeah.
- 1:41:26That'd be insane. Like, I don't care who wins,
- 1:41:30just go for it. Every single game from here on
- 1:41:32out, let's go to overtime. It might be kind of
- 1:41:35stroke -worthy, but we're going to be like, oh,
- 1:41:38God damn it. Why the fuck do we just do this?
- 1:41:42Yeah, that is really awesome. That's a good thing
- 1:41:44to bring up. That's awesome. I totally forgot
- 1:41:48about that. Again, after that game 3, I saw that
- 1:41:53pop up from Saginaw's Facebook page. I'm like,
- 1:41:58what is this about? Because people were asking
- 1:41:59it. I was like, okay, I'll do my research. That's
- 1:42:02what I came up as. And apparently every single
- 1:42:04player has this picked out. One charity that
- 1:42:08they really love and want to go for. That's pretty
- 1:42:11awesome. I love that. I think that does it for
- 1:42:14this week's episode of the Book Buster Podcast.
- 1:42:16Again, we are now just about everywhere. In case
- 1:42:19you missed that, we're uploading episodes to
- 1:42:20YouTube now. We're on Amazon Music. We're on

- 1:42:25look us up on rss .com and find every link to
- 1:42:28every platform that we're now uploading these
- 1:42:30episodes to. But, yeah, again, if you didn't
- 1:42:33see the new vlog that's out, go check out the
- 1:42:34new vlog where we went to the Sabres game up
- 1:42:38in, Penguin Sabres game up in Buffalo. Got our
- 1:42:40asses kicked, but we were at the game to see
- 1:42:42Crosby break his record, his Wayne Gretzky record.
- 1:42:45Which I was, at least, was the best part. It's
- 1:42:47fun to see. Got a good vlog out of it. Kind of
- 1:42:49an entertaining vlog. Get to watch our misery
- 1:42:50yet again. But you got a good, learned a good
- 1:42:54RJ story there from one of the nice security
- 1:42:56guys that were there. So we made a short out
- 1:42:58of that. That's also on our YouTube channel as
- 1:43:00well now. Thanks for listening, guys. Have a
- 1:43:02good time, and we'll see you in the next episode.
- 1:43:04See ya!
