- 2:13Speaker 1: My next guest. It's an award winning interior designer. We
- 2:17Speaker 1: did a lot of great work together on the Steve
- 2:19Speaker 1: Harvey Talk Show. His designs have been featured on h
- 2:21Speaker 1: g TV, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and Good Morning America.
- 2:25Speaker 1: He's on the show to discuss his journey in the
- 2:28Speaker 1: business and his new series, Murder House Flip on Quimpy,
- 2:32Speaker 1: Please work with the money making conversations. Mikhail Welch, Hey,
- 2:37Speaker 1: thank you for having me. Well, it's always great having you.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Got your energy up my man. Yeah, Hey, I'm ready.
- 2:42Speaker 1: It's premier day. Well, it's really because a lot of people,
- 2:45Speaker 1: you know, we know, we know the times that we're
- 2:47Speaker 1: in at this point, that were wondering is it was
- 2:49Speaker 1: smart to be on TV at this time. I think
- 2:53Speaker 1: you have an audience at the house looking for something new. Absolutely,
- 2:57Speaker 1: I mean I agree, It's like this is the perfect
- 2:59Speaker 1: operation facility. Everybody is sheltering in place and you know,
- 3:03Speaker 1: looking for a new outlet. Right, this is the prime opportunity,
- 3:07Speaker 1: you know, for I think for television and just people
- 3:10Speaker 1: putting out content, but what every brand they're working on,
- 3:13Speaker 1: This is the perfect opportunity just to kind of working
- 3:16Speaker 1: and crap or work that craft. The name of the
- 3:19Speaker 1: show is Murder House Flip. You know, I'm a big designer.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I'll be watching, you know, watching. I watched the you know,
- 3:26Speaker 1: the Cabin Masters. I watched the Man with the with
- 3:30Speaker 1: the amazing pools down in Florida. I love that dude
- 3:32Speaker 1: his with his mama. He called a woman on the show.
- 3:36Speaker 1: So I'm a I'm a big guy, you know, I'm
- 3:39Speaker 1: I'm a big guy watching these flip these I was
- 3:41Speaker 1: not saying I'm doing it on my own house now,
- 3:43Speaker 1: you know. But I'm a watcher, and I think America,
- 3:46Speaker 1: America is really into watching and learning and and it
- 3:51Speaker 1: inspires people to go to stores like Home Depot and
- 3:54Speaker 1: Lows and all these type of things to carry out
- 3:57Speaker 1: their dreams. What got you started? But cal Um, you know, honestly,
- 4:02Speaker 1: I tell people all the time, you know, everything happens
- 4:05Speaker 1: for a reason. But you know, I graduated from fool
- 4:07Speaker 1: with more House with a degree in marketing, and you know, honestly,
- 4:12Speaker 1: one day my mom had a conversation with me and
- 4:14Speaker 1: told me I needed to find my passion and that
- 4:17Speaker 1: I would know what it is because it would be
- 4:19Speaker 1: something I'd be willing to do for free. So I
- 4:22Speaker 1: ended up, you know, going to work for a furniture
- 4:24Speaker 1: company and that turned into you know, many other opportunities.
- 4:28Speaker 1: But honestly it started from that one little steed me
- 4:31Speaker 1: working in the furniture store and just going out on
- 4:33Speaker 1: the women, just putting it all on the line and say, hey,
- 4:35Speaker 1: this is when I want to go after And it
- 4:38Speaker 1: all started from there. Now, furniture store, yes see, you're
- 4:46Speaker 1: a long way from what were you doing in that furniture?
- 4:49Speaker 1: Were you selling furniture? Furniture? What were you doing? I
- 4:54Speaker 1: was selling the furniture in the furniture store, the storehouse
- 4:57Speaker 1: Furniture in Atlanta, And you know, I really got frustrated
- 5:01Speaker 1: because I wasn't a great salesman, so I thought, and
- 5:04Speaker 1: so UM. I ended up transitioning UH to the warehouse
- 5:09Speaker 1: and I was kind of like their UM inventory manager,
- 5:12Speaker 1: and I was in charge of all the products that
- 5:14Speaker 1: would go like the Oprah when she was doing hurricane
- 5:16Speaker 1: or train a relief and something it sparked in me
- 5:19Speaker 1: and I said, you know what, I really want to
- 5:21Speaker 1: be the person on the other side of that. I
- 5:23Speaker 1: don't want to just ship out the furniture. I want
- 5:25Speaker 1: to be the one designing the room and so um
- 5:28Speaker 1: after I mean, and I'll tell the truth. After several
- 5:30Speaker 1: failed attempts, you know, I had three different interviews to
- 5:33Speaker 1: become a buyer and it just didn't work out. My
- 5:36Speaker 1: boss said to me, he said, y'all like you, but
- 5:38Speaker 1: I think you might want to, you know, test something
- 5:41Speaker 1: else out. And there was a gentleman on Craig was
- 5:43Speaker 1: looking for an interior design assistant and I applied got
- 5:48Speaker 1: that job and I worked with him for a year,
- 5:50Speaker 1: just really learning the business of design, how to run
- 5:54Speaker 1: a firm. And from there I went on Craigslist and
- 5:57Speaker 1: I posted um to design one free room for anyone
- 6:01Speaker 1: who would allow me into their home. I designed the
- 6:04Speaker 1: room for free, as long as they pay for the merchandise.
- 6:06Speaker 1: And that's how I built a book, a portfolio. Now,
- 6:09Speaker 1: tell us about those early designs, because you know you're
- 6:12Speaker 1: walking in there, and now do they look at they're
- 6:15Speaker 1: looking at you as an amateur, when they're looking at
- 6:17Speaker 1: you as a rookie, you know, when they question your abilities?
- 6:20Speaker 1: What did you walk in after free? As free? Okay,
- 6:23Speaker 1: we got free, but do you still walking into somebody's
- 6:26Speaker 1: house about to make a change, How did you convince
- 6:29Speaker 1: them at that next step? Well, you know what, I
- 6:32Speaker 1: am one of those people who believe in the sake
- 6:35Speaker 1: until you make it. And so you know what, I
- 6:38Speaker 1: did use my house as kind of like my first project.
- 6:42Speaker 1: So I designed my house, had a friend take some
- 6:45Speaker 1: pictures of it, so I at least have some stock
- 6:47Speaker 1: images and we must have siss about fifty images all
- 6:49Speaker 1: throughout my tiny apartment. But we made it look like
- 6:52Speaker 1: it was several different rooms. So I use that as
- 6:57Speaker 1: my portfolio. And you know, you have to worry the
- 7:00Speaker 1: angles that you have, right. I love that, And so
- 7:05Speaker 1: that's why, you know, people always get they always go
- 7:07Speaker 1: how do I get started? But it's right there, it's
- 7:10Speaker 1: how creative are you? Yes? Absolutely? I mean really is
- 7:14Speaker 1: about working your network, you know. So I tell people
- 7:17Speaker 1: all the time, if you want to break into design,
- 7:18Speaker 1: you don't have any clients, take pictures of your house,
- 7:21Speaker 1: take pictures of your friends houses. Like you know, I
- 7:24Speaker 1: even in my current house right now, in my New
- 7:26Speaker 1: York apartment, I have a wall that is solely dedicated
- 7:29Speaker 1: to me rearranging things. So I can't always have extra
- 7:32Speaker 1: stock image for my Instagram always absolutely, you know, it's
- 7:37Speaker 1: really interesting. It's just like me on baking. You know,
- 7:39Speaker 1: people I just bake and I just I have different
- 7:43Speaker 1: ways I bake, have different dishes I bake, and so
- 7:45Speaker 1: I use those to just sell people that I'm an
- 7:48Speaker 1: award winning baker and I transition that because in January
- 7:52Speaker 1: this year, you will name House Beautiful's Next Wave one
- 7:56Speaker 1: of the next wave designers. What does that mean for
- 7:58Speaker 1: your branding, for your career at this point? To get
- 8:00Speaker 1: that on, you know, that was a life changing experience.
- 8:04Speaker 1: You know, just to be recognized, um as as one
- 8:08Speaker 1: of the House Beautiful sent next Way, it was huge.
- 8:11Speaker 1: You know for one as an African American designer, there
- 8:14Speaker 1: aren't that many of us who even make it to
- 8:17Speaker 1: the larger Shelter magazine. So you know, this was big
- 8:21Speaker 1: for me because I felt like it was door open.
- 8:23Speaker 1: This is going to open up the doors for for
- 8:25Speaker 1: others just like me who are trying to get in
- 8:27Speaker 1: that door. But to think I came from Craigslist now
- 8:30Speaker 1: to grazing House Beautiful, um I mean, it's the most
- 8:33Speaker 1: rewarding experience that you know, what I think a designer
- 8:36Speaker 1: could ever have. So I'm just grateful for the opportunity.
- 8:39Speaker 1: It's hard work, but you know, I see it's paying off,
- 8:42Speaker 1: paying out. Well, you know I met you, I felt
- 8:45Speaker 1: early in your career. Michael on the Steve Harvey Talk Show. Okay,
- 8:48Speaker 1: so as I do prep uh your for the interview,
- 8:53Speaker 1: I'm going through. Michael also has the honor of designing
- 8:57Speaker 1: room for prominent personalities including First Lady Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey,
- 9:05Speaker 1: Faith Hell, Harry Cornell, Junior, halle Berry, and of course
- 9:10Speaker 1: Steve Harvey. Now what did all this happened? Did I
- 9:13Speaker 1: miss all this? This was happening before you met me. No, off,
- 9:17Speaker 1: this was all happening through you. I mean, this is
- 9:19Speaker 1: another thing I think. You know again when we talk
- 9:21Speaker 1: about making opportunities happen. So when we were on the
- 9:25Speaker 1: Steve Harvey Show, every time Oprah came, faith Will, faith Hell,
- 9:30Speaker 1: or Halle Berry, First Lady Michelle Obama, every time they came,
- 9:34Speaker 1: I was giving a budget to design a special green
- 9:39Speaker 1: room for each one of them. I would take those
- 9:43Speaker 1: red and I would spend my own money, and I
- 9:45Speaker 1: would hire a photographer to photograph each room. And then
- 9:49Speaker 1: once I got an opportunity, I would come and I
- 9:52Speaker 1: would ask that celebrity if they enjoyed the space, and
- 9:56Speaker 1: that little sentence that they told me, I would take
- 9:58Speaker 1: that and I would use it as a quote. I
- 9:59Speaker 1: would never forget. Oprah, I asked her, and I had
- 10:01Speaker 1: to go ask her, I said, you know, to that.
- 10:03Speaker 1: I couldn't get that close to her. It was time.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I said, you know, did you like your room? And
- 10:07Speaker 1: she was like, oh my gosh, what was that? That's
- 10:09Speaker 1: a quote? You put that on your website and you know,
- 10:12Speaker 1: so it's one of those you have to work the
- 10:13Speaker 1: angles that you have and that's how I made that happen. Well,
- 10:18Speaker 1: you know, it's it's one when you know. The thing
- 10:20Speaker 1: I love about this interview is just you're not um.
- 10:24Speaker 1: First of all, you you trusting yourself and trusting your instincts,
- 10:27Speaker 1: and plus you are looking at opportunities because you're you're
- 10:31Speaker 1: you're is your feel is a visual feel, walk in,
- 10:35Speaker 1: you go, I don't think he knows what he's doing.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Oh I like the way that places me in. And
- 10:40Speaker 1: so you're taking advantage of those situations, those opportunities that
- 10:42Speaker 1: come to you. And then when you promote yourself, you
- 10:45Speaker 1: promote you to promoting yourself with credibility and that's a
- 10:49Speaker 1: beautiful thing. And so so where are you now in
- 10:52Speaker 1: your career as far as developing and building your brand out?
- 10:57Speaker 1: So right now, my biggest thing I have the launch
- 11:00Speaker 1: of partner with a company called Yosemite home Um out
- 11:04Speaker 1: of Fresno, California. And I've just launched my first furniture line.
- 11:08Speaker 1: So I have so you can buy something. You can
- 11:10Speaker 1: buy something. I can sit there. Absolutely, you can absolutely
- 11:14Speaker 1: buy on my website. You can check it out on
- 11:18Speaker 1: micals dot com. I'm gonna say I'm mad at you, Michael,
- 11:21Speaker 1: because you're not send me any banners so I can
- 11:23Speaker 1: post on my soldier because you know, that's what money
- 11:25Speaker 1: make conversation is all about, you know, you know, relationships,
- 11:29Speaker 1: promoting uh successful people in the business, showing other people
- 11:32Speaker 1: that they can be done. Now, you've got a furniture
- 11:34Speaker 1: line and I've yet to ever post anything on my
- 11:37Speaker 1: social media recognizing this new development or this amazing development
- 11:41Speaker 1: your life. Shame on you. You're a busy man. I
- 11:45Speaker 1: tried to hope bart you. I tried to wait to
- 11:47Speaker 1: you know, I have several things, line back them up
- 11:49Speaker 1: and present them toil you start I'll come with these
- 11:51Speaker 1: little nuggets with the finish, the story, how many pieces
- 11:54Speaker 1: and how did they all come about? Oh so this
- 11:58Speaker 1: is a great story. Um so funny story. Uh So
- 12:02Speaker 1: last year or UM I was there's a big furniture
- 12:05Speaker 1: show that they have UM in Las Vegas as well
- 12:08Speaker 1: as High Point Market and I'm doing a tour and
- 12:12Speaker 1: I had to take sixty people around to show them
- 12:14Speaker 1: my favorite vendors inside of this merchandise smart and I
- 12:19Speaker 1: took my mother with me. So my mom's collecting all
- 12:23Speaker 1: the free bags that you get, you know, from the vendors.
- 12:26Speaker 1: But the problem is every time she stops to get
- 12:29Speaker 1: a free bag, they want to talk to me to
- 12:31Speaker 1: sell something. And I said, okay, mom, I said, my mom,
- 12:35Speaker 1: this is the last store we're going in. And so
- 12:37Speaker 1: we go in and I'm looking at a piece and
- 12:39Speaker 1: I'm just talking to my mom. I said, I like
- 12:40Speaker 1: that piece of artwork, but I don't like the medallion
- 12:43Speaker 1: they put on it. Because lady stops to me and
- 12:45Speaker 1: she says, what did you just say about that piece
- 12:47Speaker 1: of artwork? And I told her and I'm like, oh,
- 12:50Speaker 1: I put my foot in my mouth in anyhow, the
- 12:52Speaker 1: lady said, well, tell me what else you think, So
- 12:54Speaker 1: we walk around the entire store. At the end of
- 12:56Speaker 1: the conversation, she says, I'm the vice president of the company.
- 12:59Speaker 1: We've been looking to partner with the designer who can
- 13:01Speaker 1: help us change our branding. And you were so honest
- 13:05Speaker 1: talking to your mother about what you didn't like about
- 13:07Speaker 1: that piece of furniture, and I think we want to
- 13:09Speaker 1: work with you. And that's honestly how it happens. Um. So,
- 13:14Speaker 1: so to your mama hustling for freebees, yes, landed you
- 13:19Speaker 1: your furniture. Lie, that's what you try to tell us.
- 13:21Speaker 1: That's what you're saying on Money Made Conversation, your mama.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Your mama's agreed for the free stuff, yes, yes, yes,
- 13:29Speaker 1: But you know what also also, I would say this,
- 13:32Speaker 1: it's also the preparation because it was all of those
- 13:35Speaker 1: things that I had done in the past. My portfolio.
- 13:39Speaker 1: The television shows all of the step Harvey appearances, you
- 13:42Speaker 1: getting me booked on the Real Housewives of Atlantic, So
- 13:45Speaker 1: when they go back to look at my work, it's like, oh,
- 13:49Speaker 1: you know, this guy knows what he's talking about. It's
- 13:51Speaker 1: being able to back that up and being prepared. That's
- 13:54Speaker 1: the biggest thing you just I was, well, you know
- 13:56Speaker 1: the thing I love about your Michael, is that you
- 13:58Speaker 1: know you and I have a very honest relationship about
- 14:01Speaker 1: how gifted you are and how I will not allow
- 14:04Speaker 1: you to not give. And then when I look at
- 14:07Speaker 1: your resume and I see you on HGTV Real Halfwives
- 14:11Speaker 1: of Atlanta, Good Morning America, Steve Harvey talk show designing
- 14:14Speaker 1: for Famous People, and they're walking into the room because
- 14:17Speaker 1: you know the think about famous people. Man, they've seen
- 14:19Speaker 1: it all and for the being pressed by walking into
- 14:23Speaker 1: a room, a green room. And I walked to some
- 14:26Speaker 1: green rooms myself and I went what is this? And
- 14:29Speaker 1: I walked into green and go wow, Like Rachel Age,
- 14:31Speaker 1: green room was like off the chain in New York.
- 14:34Speaker 1: But again, you on the show to talk about your
- 14:36Speaker 1: new show, Murder House Flip on Quimby when we come back.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I'm talking to my man, Michail Welch. Great to have
- 14:42Speaker 1: you on the show when we come back. That's all
- 14:43Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about is this new show. April six.

- 17:10Speaker 1: moment in his life. He's designed for the greats, you
- 17:13Speaker 1: know when they come on when they came on Steve
- 17:15Speaker 1: Harvey Show, we assigned him, Hey, man, we need you
- 17:17Speaker 1: to design some outstanding rooms, because outstanding people about the
- 17:21Speaker 1: coming I said, rooms, green rooms. Lady Michelle Obama, I
- 17:25Speaker 1: remember when she came on show. I remember when Oprah
- 17:26Speaker 1: came on the show Faith Hill. You know Harry Corny,
- 17:30Speaker 1: he had he he totally redesigned Steve Harvey's dressing room.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I was there. I saw it, and and Steve it's
- 17:37Speaker 1: very meticulous about how he wants his room to look
- 17:41Speaker 1: because he spends a lot of time and and of
- 17:42Speaker 1: course Halle Berry. But we're only show to talk about
- 17:45Speaker 1: this new show that I saw a trailer on and
- 17:49Speaker 1: you made me laugh. And for the more. Let me
- 17:52Speaker 1: just tell you somebody the name of the shows called
- 17:54Speaker 1: Murder House Flip and it's on the Quick Network. Now
- 17:58Speaker 1: this w this is a perfect show for me because
- 18:01Speaker 1: I can't get enough for forensic files. Okay, I'm just
- 18:04Speaker 1: telling I watched those shows man, like I watched the
- 18:08Speaker 1: repeats and now they've got new shows, so I'm happy.
- 18:11Speaker 1: I watched Sexy Murder, I watched all those shows. I
- 18:15Speaker 1: was just addicted to those type of shows. And so
- 18:18Speaker 1: when I when they sent me the trailer of your show,
- 18:20Speaker 1: I didn't know what they were sending it. So when
- 18:22Speaker 1: they shoot me a trailer about your show about what
- 18:25Speaker 1: people are buying houses are renovating houses where people either
- 18:29Speaker 1: were murdered in or dying in, I went, wow, I've
- 18:34Speaker 1: been sitting on this idea for years. This was the
- 18:41Speaker 1: craziest thing I think. I have not even think that
- 18:45Speaker 1: the craziest thing I've ever worked on. As a matter
- 18:47Speaker 1: of fact, when my manager called me to say, hey,
- 18:49Speaker 1: you know you have an audition for Murder House Flip,
- 18:53Speaker 1: I'm like, what is this? I thought they were joking.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Now I really didn't believe them until they booked. But
- 18:59Speaker 1: like the EP of the show, he called me, he's
- 19:01Speaker 1: trying to convince me that it's a real show. And
- 19:03Speaker 1: until they booked my plane fair, I didn't really think
- 19:06Speaker 1: this was real. But it's a legiti show. Um it's
- 19:10Speaker 1: myself and a co host, UM my coach with Joel.
- 19:14Speaker 1: The two of us, we go into homes where people
- 19:17Speaker 1: have you know, have the iconic murders have absolutely murders? Yes,
- 19:24Speaker 1: I mean the first episode of This Lady you know,
- 19:27Speaker 1: so it was an elderly woman who killed seven people
- 19:31Speaker 1: by you know, poisoning them so that she could take
- 19:34Speaker 1: their social Security check. So and she buried them in
- 19:37Speaker 1: her front yard. So it's it's creepy. Now you want
- 19:40Speaker 1: to go out there embarrassing, put some grass down and
- 19:43Speaker 1: put some plants down, and have the children play over
- 19:45Speaker 1: the dead bodies and all that good stuff. That's that's
- 19:48Speaker 1: why I love the show. That's I'm kind of mad
- 19:51Speaker 1: and half at the same time because I'm mad because
- 19:54Speaker 1: I watched all these homemakeover shows I love them. I
- 19:58Speaker 1: watched all these foruristics murder shows, which I love them,
- 20:01Speaker 1: and not one time did my dumb behind to go
- 20:05Speaker 1: this is a show because you know why, the idea
- 20:08Speaker 1: is so crazy and so extreme. It is crazy. It
- 20:12Speaker 1: is crazy, even like you saw on the cliff you know,
- 20:14Speaker 1: it's the clip where I'm on the staircase of my
- 20:16Speaker 1: co host and I tell her, you know, I usually
- 20:21Speaker 1: do say ladies first, but I ran down those stairs
- 20:24Speaker 1: because it was an energy and I just wanted to
- 20:26Speaker 1: get out of that house like we film at night. Yeah,
- 20:31Speaker 1: I'm laughing because you look so wimping when you said that,
- 20:34Speaker 1: because you were really going down those steps fast. You
- 20:36Speaker 1: were going and she's a taller person house and she's
- 20:40Speaker 1: taller than you too, so you you're running out those
- 20:42Speaker 1: steps real fast. And let's let's let's talk about because
- 20:45Speaker 1: you talk about being interviewed. And here's the funny part
- 20:48Speaker 1: about it, because you gotta give a d or for
- 20:51Speaker 1: anything that you do, whether you believe in it or not.
- 20:53Speaker 1: So when you go when you got the opportunity to
- 20:55Speaker 1: go down an interview, who did you interview with? And
- 20:57Speaker 1: what did your interview consist of? Which? Michale Welch his
- 21:01Speaker 1: new show, Uh, Murder House Flip. It's on the Quimby
- 21:05Speaker 1: network and uh it's a short form show. Correct? What
- 21:08Speaker 1: how long is it? Each episode is less than six minutes,
- 21:12Speaker 1: So six minute episodes that are on your telephone, really
- 21:15Speaker 1: quick and easy. Okay, cool? Now, how did you audition
- 21:19Speaker 1: for this? Um? So, I flew into l A I
- 21:23Speaker 1: met at the Sony lot. The show is produced by
- 21:27Speaker 1: the parent company of Sony, and we kind of had
- 21:29Speaker 1: what they call chemistry tests and for those who don't know.
- 21:32Speaker 1: That's when they put a couple of different hosts together
- 21:34Speaker 1: and so it's, uh, it's kind of like a group interview,
- 21:38Speaker 1: and so your personality just has to shine. And so
- 21:42Speaker 1: me and my current co host, Joel, we just kind
- 21:44Speaker 1: of hit it off. Basically, what they do is they
- 21:47Speaker 1: put an image of a house up on the wall
- 21:50Speaker 1: and we have to look at a room and we
- 21:52Speaker 1: have to kind of tell them together collectively what we
- 21:55Speaker 1: would plan to do or how we re envisioned this
- 21:58Speaker 1: house and so that so you you were with a stranger, yes,
- 22:04Speaker 1: and you have to improve that moment absolutely. You know,
- 22:08Speaker 1: in that moment you have to act like, you know,
- 22:10Speaker 1: hey Joel, you know we typically do X, Y and Z,
- 22:13Speaker 1: but today we're gonna do this. So we have to
- 22:14Speaker 1: go into you know, that moment, act like do this
- 22:17Speaker 1: all the time, and you roll with it. Okay. So
- 22:21Speaker 1: what is her background? Um? You know, honestly, Joel is
- 22:25Speaker 1: a high end um residential designer in Beverly Hills. So
- 22:30Speaker 1: this is her first time doing television, so she's never
- 22:32Speaker 1: done it before. So this was huge for her too.
- 22:36Speaker 1: And so and so both of you guys go in
- 22:38Speaker 1: and we talk about the show. Now, how many episodes
- 22:40Speaker 1: did you guys take their six minutes long on the
- 22:43Speaker 1: quick at work murder house flip? How many did you
- 22:46Speaker 1: take now in six minutes? Do a hundred? How many jump?
- 22:50Speaker 1: But the way it works is we each house and
- 22:52Speaker 1: six minutes excuse me? Each house has three episodes. So
- 22:56Speaker 1: you kind of have like the true crime in the
- 22:59Speaker 1: beginning kind of the meeting potatoes, of the game plan
- 23:02Speaker 1: of how we're gonna design the space, and then the
- 23:04Speaker 1: third episode is to reveal and so that each house
- 23:08Speaker 1: has three episodes, and I think that's great for the
- 23:10Speaker 1: people who like true crime. You have a whole episode
- 23:13Speaker 1: that's dedicated to, you know, the still the background story
- 23:16Speaker 1: of what happened in the house. So you feed me
- 23:19Speaker 1: alone the way you feed me with my my addiction
- 23:22Speaker 1: to true crime, you know what I'm saying. Then you
- 23:25Speaker 1: feed my addiction to make over how you gonna make
- 23:29Speaker 1: it over? And then you feed my addiction to the
- 23:31Speaker 1: results now now and then and do you talk about
- 23:35Speaker 1: obviously these crimes where they were, are these crimes resolved?
- 23:38Speaker 1: Are they still like looking for the killers or what's
- 23:41Speaker 1: going on with these crimes? Well, most of them have
- 23:44Speaker 1: been resolved. You know, we have a combination. So the
- 23:46Speaker 1: interesting thing about this show is, you know, honestly a
- 23:49Speaker 1: lot of people move into these houses because the first
- 23:51Speaker 1: thing you ask, like, why woult you take the house? Well,
- 23:54Speaker 1: if you have a house that's on the market, you know,
- 23:57Speaker 1: for let's say six hundred thousand dollars, but then come
- 24:00Speaker 1: to the house next door and it's gone for three
- 24:02Speaker 1: hundred thousand dollars, you might just take it because of
- 24:04Speaker 1: the price. But um so some people willingly know, but
- 24:08Speaker 1: there's a significant difference in the price, and they're okay
- 24:10Speaker 1: with it at first. And then you also have some
- 24:13Speaker 1: who purchased these homes and like the mid nineties who
- 24:17Speaker 1: did not know because we didn't have Google. So unless
- 24:20Speaker 1: you're looking on a microphees, you would not know that
- 24:22Speaker 1: a parayer happened until your next door neighbor comes and
- 24:24Speaker 1: tells you after you purchased the house. And so that's
- 24:27Speaker 1: where you're running to the problem. They're not gonna do
- 24:31Speaker 1: with a preacher, you know, not knock knock now. Uh.
- 24:35Speaker 1: People died and there was a identity of drinking some
- 24:38Speaker 1: liquids exactly. And those are the cases where your baby room,
- 24:42Speaker 1: your baby room upstairs. Who's a murder on mass murder
- 24:45Speaker 1: in your baby room upstairs? They didn't tell you about
- 24:47Speaker 1: that exactly exactly. You know, when you put your dinner plates,
- 24:53Speaker 1: the four heads up there, they put them in a row,
- 24:55Speaker 1: four heads in a row where you got your denter
- 24:57Speaker 1: plates right there. So about just take you on the
- 24:59Speaker 1: two of the disaster or your home after you purchased it.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, I'll be honest with you, you know, Um,
- 25:09Speaker 1: I joke and laugh about it, but some horrific crimes
- 25:12Speaker 1: really happen, and you'll see them, you know, in the
- 25:14Speaker 1: next couple of Let me tell you something. Let me
- 25:16Speaker 1: tell you something. I have to be able to joke.
- 25:18Speaker 1: If you made a decision to go into a house
- 25:21Speaker 1: where you know murders have occurred, you can become the
- 25:25Speaker 1: butt of my joke. I'm sorry. And you cannot sit
- 25:27Speaker 1: up there acting like you are fearful now when the
- 25:30Speaker 1: price tag was not fearful. That's all I'm saying. My
- 25:34Speaker 1: whole thing is my whole thing is that. That's why
- 25:36Speaker 1: I love the show. That's why these people, you know,
- 25:39Speaker 1: they always show these people doing the real looking at
- 25:42Speaker 1: the shock. I can't believe that they really happened, you knew, Dad,
- 25:49Speaker 1: Like you said, house next doing six hundred thousand, Your
- 25:52Speaker 1: house a hundred and fifty thousand look exactly the same
- 25:55Speaker 1: as the house next door. You're going, what's the problem
- 25:59Speaker 1: where you're exactly in the front yard where the roses, like, uh,
- 26:03Speaker 1: eight people were buried there? Are you you still want
- 26:06Speaker 1: to move in? Yeah? Yeah, we definitely had that. Means
- 26:12Speaker 1: one case where a gentleman chopped up his wife and
- 26:15Speaker 1: like he was boiling her body part on the on
- 26:18Speaker 1: the stove, and that the neighbors smelled that and called
- 26:22Speaker 1: the police. And so it's this and and people complain
- 26:26Speaker 1: about Chidlin's, people complain about the smell of chikay really
- 26:35Speaker 1: now that. But you know the thing about it is
- 26:38Speaker 1: that that's why I like the show. I like the
- 26:40Speaker 1: show because of the fact that it's different. You're combined
- 26:43Speaker 1: to genres in an unusual manner. Now let's talk about this.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Now you're flipping this house. What does that mean? The
- 26:51Speaker 1: murder house flip? What does that mean? So it's not your's,
- 26:55Speaker 1: So first let me give this disclaimer. So the people
- 26:58Speaker 1: aren't selling the houses of words flip? Is us flipping
- 27:01Speaker 1: it into something that's tops and if it's really what
- 27:04Speaker 1: the connotation is. And um, we come in and we
- 27:08Speaker 1: strictly work on the room that's been affected. Um. But
- 27:11Speaker 1: the thing about that is when we redesign it, we
- 27:14Speaker 1: have to make it look completely different. So this is
- 27:16Speaker 1: not just oh, put acute sulfa in the room. So
- 27:18Speaker 1: we're like tearing down walls or ripping our fireplaces. So
- 27:22Speaker 1: every time you see so when the when the homeowners
- 27:25Speaker 1: come back into that space, it needs to feel completely
- 27:27Speaker 1: different because we're trying to help them forget what happened.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Like we're pulling up lono liam tile and we're like
- 27:33Speaker 1: poor a solution that we can see the blood things
- 27:36Speaker 1: that has speken the room because a lot of so
- 27:39Speaker 1: we had to really go in and change these houses, um,
- 27:43Speaker 1: so that when they go into these room they look
- 27:46Speaker 1: drastically different. So seriously, you actually saw bloodstains absolutely and
- 27:52Speaker 1: the trailer there's we're in the bathroom and we um,
- 27:56Speaker 1: the family didn't remove the actual tub of the husband.
- 28:00Speaker 1: You know, I guess would have watched the residue or
- 28:03Speaker 1: whatever the blood. But but when we want to put
- 28:06Speaker 1: the linoleum back to the special solution that they use
- 28:09Speaker 1: in crimes things and you'll see it. We pour it
- 28:12Speaker 1: right on to the floor and the bubbles and you
- 28:14Speaker 1: can see it. It's gusting, right, And so that you
- 28:17Speaker 1: had to like redesign. Oh, absolutely, we had to gut
- 28:21Speaker 1: it completely. I mean it was it was more than
- 28:24Speaker 1: just the two of us. I mean we had a
- 28:25Speaker 1: team that would you know, come in and help us clean. Um,
- 28:28Speaker 1: but we had to gut the rooms and completely redesign them.
- 28:32Speaker 1: So you're even gonna see me with power tool. So okay,
- 28:35Speaker 1: because this is really interesting. So you said, the three
- 28:37Speaker 1: is a three six minutes segments for each episode or
- 28:40Speaker 1: each house flip. Just the first part is going to
- 28:44Speaker 1: be what happened there? Okay. The second part is you
- 28:48Speaker 1: guys are going in meeting the family that lives there. Correct, Okay,
- 28:52Speaker 1: did any of these family families have children? Yes? And
- 28:57Speaker 1: so I think the most interesting is going to be
- 29:00Speaker 1: our finale episode. Um, not to go into grave detail,
- 29:05Speaker 1: but the young lady who lived in the house, she
- 29:07Speaker 1: was a child when they first moved into the house.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Now as an adult, she's still affected by it and
- 29:14Speaker 1: doesn't like to even really go back to her parents
- 29:16Speaker 1: house anymore. And so that yeah, so they're children, that
- 29:21Speaker 1: they're definitely children involved. That's that's really I think that's
- 29:24Speaker 1: a lot to put on a child, you know, it is,
- 29:27Speaker 1: that's and I don't I don't think that's fair that
- 29:30Speaker 1: the parents need their behind They actually need to really
- 29:33Speaker 1: understand that that's a that's an emotional burden. Not only
- 29:36Speaker 1: for that, but I'm sure she was teached or bullied
- 29:39Speaker 1: when she went to school about that, because you're the
- 29:41Speaker 1: kids don't care. Kids they get, they get up on you,
- 29:44Speaker 1: they're gonna use it. And they have a child to
- 29:47Speaker 1: live in that environment. Is really, like you said, as
- 29:50Speaker 1: an adult, she's affected by that, correct, Yeah, actually as
- 29:53Speaker 1: an adult. And you know in that scenario, they didn't know.
- 29:57Speaker 1: They didn't know in the nineties, like they didn't know.
- 30:02Speaker 1: But like you said, the neighbors came they to do
- 30:04Speaker 1: with the cookies and say, hey, you got the Johnson
- 30:06Speaker 1: house and they're like, what is the Johnson house? So
- 30:09Speaker 1: they didn't know, right, that's saying. Now, the executive producer
- 30:12Speaker 1: this show is from c s I. He's the executive producer,
- 30:14Speaker 1: John Berman, So he has a little he has a
- 30:18Speaker 1: little something to know. And your co host is who, uh,
- 30:22Speaker 1: Joel useell, Joel Rouselle, I'm telling you something. This show is.
- 30:26Speaker 1: I'm talking to Michal We's good friend of mine, one
- 30:29Speaker 1: of the top young designers. He never failed me. And uh,
- 30:32Speaker 1: all the years I was executive producing the Steve Harvey
- 30:35Speaker 1: talk show and he's went on them to do even
- 30:37Speaker 1: greater things. My man, Murder House Flip premieres on the
- 30:41Speaker 1: Quimby Network three six minute episodes per chef for house.
- 30:47Speaker 1: And you're not exactly selling the house. You're just flipping
- 30:50Speaker 1: the house from a murder crime look to a crime
- 30:54Speaker 1: to a much more modern than appealing and in front
- 30:57Speaker 1: of trying to get their family emotionally more engaged in
- 31:00Speaker 1: of the house and not the history of the house. Correct, Yes,
- 31:03Speaker 1: that is correct. It's all about flipping that design, making
- 31:05Speaker 1: it positive and allowing the family to like take ownership
- 31:09Speaker 1: of the house back without that negative connotation. Oh my man,
- 31:12Speaker 1: I appreciate you. Give you owe me some banners so
- 31:14Speaker 1: I can promote your show, also promote your promote your
