- 2:26Speaker 1: today talk about a movie I just watts on Lifetime,
- 2:30Speaker 1: the legendary Clock Sisters. She's been singing professionally since the
- 2:35Speaker 1: age of nine and releasing a six studio album entitled
- 2:38Speaker 1: Care on April seventeen. The album's first single was Don't Judge,
- 2:43Speaker 1: featuring Missy Ella. Her latest single is called It Keeps
- 2:46Speaker 1: Happening and it's out now. She's on the show to
- 2:49Speaker 1: talk about that. The Lifetime biopic The Clark's Sisters, The
- 2:52Speaker 1: First Ladies of Gospel, premiering on Lifetime on April eleven.
- 2:58Speaker 1: My guests portrays her mother in the movie and does
- 3:00Speaker 1: an amazing job. You know, she could say, but she
- 3:03Speaker 1: can act to Welcome to money making conversations, my friend
- 3:08Speaker 1: kier Key Key shared, thank you so much without amazing welcome. Well,
- 3:16Speaker 1: you know, first of all, it's a blessing, you know,
- 3:18Speaker 1: because we live a life filled with blessing despite our times,
- 3:21Speaker 1: and and to be able to interview people doing these
- 3:25Speaker 1: trying tasks to provide good quality content so people can
- 3:28Speaker 1: you know, move over their life, don't feel like they're
- 3:30Speaker 1: being bored to tie down and everything is a repeat.
- 3:33Speaker 1: It's a blessing to me and that to be able
- 3:35Speaker 1: to get you on my show to talk about this
- 3:37Speaker 1: amazing movie. You kind of dropped a hint on me
- 3:39Speaker 1: last time I interviewed you last year about this movie
- 3:43Speaker 1: was coming now is out, just before I get into
- 3:46Speaker 1: my details and start just talking about how much I
- 3:48Speaker 1: loved it and you know, the acting and everything, just
- 3:51Speaker 1: talking about the experience of getting it to the screen. Uh,
- 3:55Speaker 1: you know, it was really it was a blast. It
- 3:59Speaker 1: took hard work, it took dedication, it took commitment, and UM,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I was super grateful for the opportunity. Um, it's a
- 4:06Speaker 1: dream for me, and it's personal for me. It's not
- 4:09Speaker 1: just you know, an opportunity. But this is something that
- 4:13Speaker 1: I had to do, um, you know, or that I
- 4:15Speaker 1: wanted to do in honor of my mother, to pay
- 4:18Speaker 1: respect to her. And having the opportunity to uh again
- 4:23Speaker 1: pay homage to her, but um pay honor to her
- 4:27Speaker 1: to this magnitude and having the dream come true while
- 4:30Speaker 1: I'm doing it. That's just absolutely amazing and it's a
- 4:33Speaker 1: good story. It's not like a whack or anything. So, um,
- 4:37Speaker 1: it was all fun. It took work, like I said,
- 4:39Speaker 1: and it took me focus, uh, focusing in and droning in,
- 4:43Speaker 1: but it was it was a great experience. Well, the
- 4:46Speaker 1: thing about you know, we're in the me to generation,
- 4:49Speaker 1: you know, the to to the executive producers on the show,
- 4:52Speaker 1: Luisa Jones for the movie Good Friend. It's done a
- 4:56Speaker 1: lot of my career, and Steve Harvest career. Holly Carter,
- 4:59Speaker 1: another talented UH television producer, film producer, music producer, was
- 5:05Speaker 1: one of the executive producers on the film project. So
- 5:08Speaker 1: when I saw their names, I knew, you know, all
- 5:10Speaker 1: looks like they said. Lucien's will be tied correctly and
- 5:15Speaker 1: correct absolutely all of that. You got it right, um.
- 5:21Speaker 1: And not only that, but these those names that you've mentioned, Um,
- 5:26Speaker 1: not only are they responsible for successful stories and successful works,
- 5:31Speaker 1: but they also are considered of people of faith, and
- 5:35Speaker 1: they're not just anxious to just let a story out
- 5:38Speaker 1: and to put out dramas, but they wanted to make
- 5:40Speaker 1: sense and they keep the talents lives um in mind
- 5:44Speaker 1: and so I pay respect to them for that, for
- 5:47Speaker 1: telling the beautiful story but making sure that it's intact.
- 5:50Speaker 1: So it's exactly what you said. So the story we're
- 5:53Speaker 1: talking about is The Clock Sisters, The Life the First
- 5:55Speaker 1: Ladies of Gospel, premiering on Lifetime on April eleven. Okay,
- 6:00Speaker 1: here's the there there there are certain days of their importance.
- 6:02Speaker 1: The movie starts out in nineteen sixty three in Detroit
- 6:05Speaker 1: and the Clark's Sisters, the mom you know, Dr Maddie
- 6:08Speaker 1: Moss Clark, you know, she was kind of like it
- 6:11Speaker 1: was reference, kind of like the Joe Jackson of the
- 6:13Speaker 1: time for gospel. But you know when I when I
- 6:17Speaker 1: looked at this movie, I didn't know what to expect here.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I'm I'll be honest with you because you know, I
- 6:22Speaker 1: we're going Is it gonna be a wholesome movie or
- 6:24Speaker 1: they're gonna be gloss over? Is it gonna be is
- 6:26Speaker 1: it gonna be dramatic? What is it gonna be? You
- 6:29Speaker 1: guys told an effective story, you know, over a long
- 6:34Speaker 1: period of time and then and then't hold back, didn't
- 6:38Speaker 1: hold back. You know, Yeah, it was really good. And
- 6:42Speaker 1: when I say that, I mean that you know your grandfather.
- 6:45Speaker 1: He was I had to say the word abusive. Okay,
- 6:48Speaker 1: And then and then the mom she was a blessing,
- 6:52Speaker 1: but she's also a tyrant because she was so she
- 6:55Speaker 1: was so God fearing that she didn't she didn't other
- 6:59Speaker 1: see any other dreams. They weren't tied to God. She
- 7:02Speaker 1: didn't want to hear she didn't want to hear it,
- 7:05Speaker 1: and in and in and in some ways that's in
- 7:07Speaker 1: some ways, when you tell that story, you realize that
- 7:10Speaker 1: the success of the clocks was tied to a person
- 7:13Speaker 1: who understood. And that's the mom. She understood everybody's gifts.
- 7:16Speaker 1: She understood. She was she was focused, driven, but she
- 7:19Speaker 1: didn't she didn't bend at all. And when you start
- 7:22Speaker 1: telling the story like this and you're playing actual role
- 7:25Speaker 1: in the story, how do you play off? How do
- 7:27Speaker 1: you deal with you know, telling some stories that might
- 7:31Speaker 1: not be flattering, but the story you want to tell
- 7:33Speaker 1: is the right are are close to the right story?
- 7:35Speaker 1: How did how did you take that? Um? How did
- 7:41Speaker 1: I take it? Can you ask that question one time? Okay? Cool,
- 7:44Speaker 1: no problem. Here's the show a movie that's appearing on Lifetime,
- 7:48Speaker 1: and sometimes the characters a part of your personal life,
- 7:51Speaker 1: weren't flattering, like you're like the role of NeSy. We
- 7:54Speaker 1: saw how that played out in the movie. Uh, your grandmother,
- 7:58Speaker 1: Dr Maddie. Um was a tyrant. I used the word,
- 8:02Speaker 1: I can I'm not incorrect when I used the word.
- 8:04Speaker 1: She was had tyrant tendencies. She was overbearing, she would
- 8:08Speaker 1: gold driven. She was a taskmasker. You know, she only
- 8:13Speaker 1: she thought her way with the highway type approach. When
- 8:16Speaker 1: you're doing a show like that, or a movie like that,
- 8:18Speaker 1: or a film like this, how does it How does
- 8:21Speaker 1: it play on you to say, you know, this is
- 8:23Speaker 1: this doesn't look good for my grandmother, but this is
- 8:26Speaker 1: how she This is to tell a story correctly, we
- 8:29Speaker 1: got to tell this side of her. How did that
- 8:31Speaker 1: play for you emotionally in this project? Um? Well, first,
- 8:37Speaker 1: I wouldn't say that she was a tyrant because, um
- 8:40Speaker 1: what's associated with tyrant is oppression and or like a
- 8:44Speaker 1: cool ruler kind of thing. My Mama's taken about that definition. UM.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I will say that that she was a strong woman.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And I do think that obviously this this new generation
- 8:58Speaker 1: may not agree with some ways um as we don't
- 9:01Speaker 1: agree with a lot of ways of the traditional approach. Um, however,
- 9:07Speaker 1: we see what it has done for them and UM,
- 9:10Speaker 1: it actually has allowed me to honor the way that
- 9:13Speaker 1: they have led UM their children speaking of the generations
- 9:17Speaker 1: before UM. And to answer your question, though I think
- 9:20Speaker 1: everybody has a story, UM, so how I was able
- 9:24Speaker 1: to still move along and UM still honor those who
- 9:28Speaker 1: were still a part of blaze in the trail. If
- 9:30Speaker 1: I choose a mean and spit out the bone. You know,
- 9:32Speaker 1: there are some people that we are overly obsessed with
- 9:36Speaker 1: and we love dearly UM, but not every way that
- 9:39Speaker 1: they choose or decision that they make is the best
- 9:42Speaker 1: thing to do. So It's finally here the season of celebration.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And no matter how you celebrate with family and friends,

- 11:39Speaker 1: T E R dot ai. Um, that's so, how would
- 11:42Speaker 1: say I choose to move forward? UM? I think that
- 11:45Speaker 1: my grandmother. Um, she had to be that way because
- 11:49Speaker 1: again she was a woman in leadership and if we
- 11:52Speaker 1: noticed she had to fight, he had a challenge or
- 11:56Speaker 1: I'll just say a challenge with men on both sides
- 11:59Speaker 1: where they was in her home or if it is
- 12:01Speaker 1: in her public leadership for uh form Um, so I
- 12:06Speaker 1: would say, you know you just again you're true to me?
- 12:08Speaker 1: To put off the bones. That's such as life, that's
- 12:10Speaker 1: what comes with it. And um, I was still glad
- 12:13Speaker 1: to be a part of the story. It's a beautiful
- 12:14Speaker 1: story because her legacy still moves on. And very often
- 12:19Speaker 1: we put to a woman who is strong and who
- 12:22Speaker 1: sticks to their guns that they have this negative way
- 12:26Speaker 1: of doing things or they are this negative kind of person.
- 12:29Speaker 1: But if it's a man, then it's considered to be different.
- 12:32Speaker 1: And so I'm excited that her story is able to
- 12:34Speaker 1: be told in this time and in this day because
- 12:37Speaker 1: we're now acknowledging women in history pioneers who are women
- 12:41Speaker 1: female pioneers and so forth. So um, yeah, that's how
- 12:45Speaker 1: I'm able to push past the story. And she's inspiring.
- 12:47Speaker 1: She's an ambitious woman. And again she said to her gun, well,
- 12:51Speaker 1: you know great, And that's why I wanted to talk
- 12:53Speaker 1: about that, because we all can have perceptions and uh,
- 12:56Speaker 1: you know, and believe me, when I used the word tiring,
- 12:59Speaker 1: it was only in a in a role of being
- 13:02Speaker 1: a person who who wills their way, you know, and
- 13:05Speaker 1: in her way was same note uh beyond key, Um,
- 13:11Speaker 1: you know, Twinkie was with her all the time. And
- 13:13Speaker 1: Twinky Because I don't want to tell the story, but
- 13:16Speaker 1: I want to let everybody know that the years they
- 13:20Speaker 1: were important in this story because they on the on
- 13:22Speaker 1: the on the screen, they show you different years that
- 13:24Speaker 1: are important. Like I said, nineteen sixty three it was
- 13:27Speaker 1: in Detroit when you know, Motown was blazing, but she
- 13:31Speaker 1: wanted to follow the path of gospel. Then they went
- 13:33Speaker 1: to nineteen seventy three, nineteen seventy six was really that
- 13:36Speaker 1: kind of like their first performance. NINT needed too big concert,
- 13:40Speaker 1: NINT needed not. But along the way, like like she stated,
- 13:43Speaker 1: your mom had to deal with male promoters who stiffed
- 13:47Speaker 1: her or underpaid her. She had to deal with church council,
- 13:51Speaker 1: which was when I looked at that scene, it was
- 13:53Speaker 1: nothing but man telling her are reprimanding her and also
- 13:58Speaker 1: dealing with the fact that she had to cur to
- 14:00Speaker 1: get out of a bad marriage. And and she said
- 14:04Speaker 1: she didn't want her daughters cooking the cleaning, so she
- 14:07Speaker 1: always had a more upwards, a mobile approach to what
- 14:11Speaker 1: her daughters could be and should be. She just saw
- 14:14Speaker 1: a talent and she saw that talent is their way out.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And that is what played strong to me in the movie.
- 14:22Speaker 1: And that is what you know when you when you're
- 14:24Speaker 1: playing the role of your mom. Now, now we're coming
- 14:27Speaker 1: close to home. You know her character. Did you did
- 14:30Speaker 1: you talk to your mom about the character and you
- 14:32Speaker 1: just you saw the script? How did you develop and
- 14:34Speaker 1: play that role out? Yeah? I did talk to my
- 14:39Speaker 1: mom about it, um, but most of what I did
- 14:42Speaker 1: because I didn't want to use my mom as a
- 14:44Speaker 1: cheat sheet, but I did. I didn't do my ways
- 14:48Speaker 1: of interviewing her and asking the questions year and yere.
- 14:50Speaker 1: But I did a lot of setting her about just
- 14:53Speaker 1: looking at some of her UM interviews and how she interacts,
- 14:56Speaker 1: cause I'm used to her acting as mommy, and of
- 14:59Speaker 1: course I saw lot um you know, of her as
- 15:02Speaker 1: a wife and um and in the First Lady and
- 15:05Speaker 1: all that, but as a sister, UM, I needed to
- 15:08Speaker 1: watch more closely to that. So I did on YouTube
- 15:10Speaker 1: video and I watched her interviews and all that stuff. UM.
- 15:14Speaker 1: That was how I prepared. Well, the thing about it is,
- 15:17Speaker 1: let me just say, since everybody I'm talking to cure
- 15:20Speaker 1: Ki Ki shared a key kid is a nickname, UM,
- 15:24Speaker 1: and we're talking about the lifetime movie that she started
- 15:27Speaker 1: in the Legendary Clark Sisters, UM, that will be on
- 15:30Speaker 1: the be on the screens April leventh on all television's television,
- 15:33Speaker 1: zetts and streaming and all those good things. When you
- 15:37Speaker 1: look at Destiny's Child, you know they've been calling most
- 15:39Speaker 1: celebrated female group of all time, the Legendary Clarkss that
- 15:43Speaker 1: have to be considered this most celebrated female group in
- 15:46Speaker 1: gospel music history because of what they've accomplished. The concert
- 15:50Speaker 1: tickets sold, the singles, the album I believe that Twinkie
- 15:55Speaker 1: has written over two hundred and fifty songs in a lifetime.
- 15:59Speaker 1: That is a title that you can't take away. That's
- 16:01Speaker 1: a title that they earned, and that's the title they
- 16:04Speaker 1: earned despite you know, challenges and a male dominated industry,
- 16:09Speaker 1: challenges when people you thought was doing your favor putting
- 16:12Speaker 1: the right contract in front of you and it's not
- 16:14Speaker 1: the right contract in front of you, And challenges that
- 16:16Speaker 1: your mom was on the road trying to make this
- 16:20Speaker 1: happen in a male dominated society. That's why you're saying, Rashaun,
- 16:23Speaker 1: this is perfect in the generation that needs to understand
- 16:26Speaker 1: that women can't do it. We could not have released
- 16:29Speaker 1: this movie at a better time. Correct, Absolutely, absolutely, I
- 16:37Speaker 1: agree with that. Awesome. But before we get off far,
- 16:40Speaker 1: I want to talk about your new album. Tell us
- 16:41Speaker 1: about the new album Young Ladies dropping April seventeen, so
- 16:44Speaker 1: we can get some old inspiration, get some old gospel love. Absolutely,
- 16:50Speaker 1: the albums are coming out April seventeen, and I'm really
- 16:53Speaker 1: thought about that. Apparently, have a new single out card
- 16:55Speaker 1: to keeps Happening, and the movie, the movie Opportunity, and
- 17:00Speaker 1: on the Macy's partnership, how many other great things that
- 17:03Speaker 1: the Lord is doing. I just you know, the song
- 17:06Speaker 1: was inspired by that and I just had to say,
- 17:08Speaker 1: you know what great things are happening and keep happing
- 17:10Speaker 1: up for me, um, and I was I'm just blacked
- 17:13Speaker 1: by it. So the new single is out, and that's
- 17:15Speaker 1: the message of it is the songs that that is
- 17:18Speaker 1: declaring um business and and and great possibilities over my life,
- 17:24Speaker 1: over my family's life. And so it's a song though
- 17:26Speaker 1: that everyone can relate to and you can make it
- 17:29Speaker 1: your declaration UM. And it looks like that's what we
- 17:31Speaker 1: have been doing. So it is. It's a special song
- 17:33Speaker 1: and I can't wait for everyone to hear this new
- 17:36Speaker 1: music again. That's April seventeenth, and the movie is coming
- 17:39Speaker 1: out April left. Okay, you mentioned the Macy's Partnate partnership.
- 17:42Speaker 1: A lot of people are shopping online. Tell us about
- 17:44Speaker 1: that Macy's partnership. Yeah. So my clothing line eleven sixty
- 17:49Speaker 1: is a Curby line, a woman of a site, a
- 17:52Speaker 1: line for Curby's women put sized women, and um, it's
