- 0:38Speaker 4: Don't joy yeah, Joy show.
- 0:58Speaker 5: You know you love you.
- 1:10Speaker 3: You.
- 1:24Speaker 2: You gotta turn.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Got to turn the mouth turn.
- 1:43Speaker 4: You probably got to turn them out, turn out a
- 1:47Speaker 4: wad of the mona.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Come come on, you think that, I sure will? Good
- 2:04Speaker 2: morning everybody.
- 2:05Speaker 6: You're listening to the voice, Come on, dig me now,
- 2:08Speaker 6: one and only Steve Harvey got this radio show. Man,
- 2:16Speaker 6: How I got here? I really can't explain it. Only
- 2:19Speaker 6: by the grace of God, That's all I can really
- 2:21Speaker 6: tell you. I was talking with a buddy the other
- 2:26Speaker 6: day and he was telling me. He said, Man, he
- 2:28Speaker 6: had an interesting philosophy about it.
- 2:32Speaker 2: He say. You know, you can have.
- 2:33Speaker 6: Dreams and visions, he say, but God, God will never
- 2:38Speaker 6: show you.
- 2:40Speaker 2: What all he has for you.
- 2:43Speaker 6: He won't show you all of it because he knows
- 2:46Speaker 6: you'll mess it up. And you know what, man, I
- 2:50Speaker 6: thought about that, and wow, how true is that?
- 2:54Speaker 2: Okay?
- 2:56Speaker 6: I know that I got a radio show. I didn't
- 3:00Speaker 6: see it. It's just become this major blessing for me.
- 3:04Speaker 6: I didn't see it. But if I would have seen
- 3:06Speaker 6: it and known when he had planned on giving it
- 3:10Speaker 6: to me, I would have messed it up because Number one,
- 3:14Speaker 6: my first question would have been to him, why I
- 3:17Speaker 6: got to wait so long? Why don't I go down
- 3:21Speaker 6: hill and start on the radio now? And then I'll
- 3:25Speaker 6: be in radio and then tyd, I see the God.
- 3:29Speaker 6: But see, the thing about God is God don't need
- 3:32Speaker 6: your help. Matter of fact, he don't really want it.
- 3:36Speaker 6: All he wants is you to love him and obey
- 3:39Speaker 6: if you can do them two things.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I think I could be wrong. I think he'd be
- 3:44Speaker 2: really cool with us. So had I known.
- 3:49Speaker 6: About these blessings that he had for me, I would
- 3:52Speaker 6: have messed him up because I would have put my
- 3:54Speaker 6: thinking in the figuring process, and that would ejected it
- 3:57Speaker 6: all up. That's the first thing I asked him why
- 4:00Speaker 6: I got away so long?
- 4:02Speaker 2: And then if he'd shown me what I was gonna
- 4:04Speaker 2: have to do to get it, I would have showed
- 4:07Speaker 2: messed that up. Man, I ain't finna do that. I
- 4:10Speaker 2: ain't finna do all of that.
- 4:12Speaker 6: Wait a minute, I got to go through all of
- 4:14Speaker 6: these mishaps in my life.
- 4:16Speaker 2: So when I get the radio show.
- 4:18Speaker 6: I have something to share, Man, why won't I just
- 4:22Speaker 6: read a couple books and share that experience with them?
- 4:25Speaker 2: Now?
- 4:26Speaker 6: See, I want you to know what you're talking about.
- 4:30Speaker 6: I want you to be transparent. I want people to
- 4:33Speaker 6: be able to identify with your struggle and apply they
- 4:36Speaker 6: struggle to it and see that they can get over.
- 4:39Speaker 2: See.
- 4:40Speaker 6: God never shows you all of it because he know
- 4:43Speaker 6: we'll mess it up.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I wouldn't have.
- 4:45Speaker 6: Any books, I certainly please know, I would not be
- 4:49Speaker 6: the host of family few can I tell you that
- 4:53Speaker 6: it is amazing man, how God works, and my invitation
- 4:58Speaker 6: to everybody today is allowed God to work. You know,
- 5:03Speaker 6: you can ask him why all you want to, And
- 5:05Speaker 6: from time to time I still do no good for me.
- 5:09Speaker 2: But that o me old woe is me? Lord? Thing
- 5:11Speaker 2: that don't.
- 5:11Speaker 6: Really get it for me, because when I start asking
- 5:15Speaker 6: him why, I'm asking somebody who has a thought process
- 5:18Speaker 6: so high above mind that there's no way if he
- 5:21Speaker 6: told it to me, I wouldn't even get it. You
- 5:24Speaker 6: wouldn't either, Uncle, I'll bright you think you are. Man,
- 5:26Speaker 6: You just ain't gonna get how and why he does
- 5:28Speaker 6: it his way. You're not going to understand it. But
- 5:32Speaker 6: He has a plan for each and every one of us.
- 5:35Speaker 6: And if we adhere to the plan, if we submit
- 5:38Speaker 6: ourself to his will and just say, okay, God, what
- 5:40Speaker 6: you want me to do, I am telling you it
- 5:43Speaker 6: is the best way to live.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Now.
- 5:46Speaker 6: You can also do it the way I did it
- 5:48Speaker 6: early on. You can just do what you want to
- 5:51Speaker 6: do and see how it go from now. And I
- 5:54Speaker 6: will tell you from personal experience, it's not going to
- 5:57Speaker 6: go good. My wife and I were talking the other
- 6:02Speaker 6: day as she said something with me and I had
- 6:04Speaker 6: to write it down. She says, Steve, you know the
- 6:07Speaker 6: funny thing about sin. She says, sining costs you more
- 6:11Speaker 6: than you want to pay and causes you to stay
- 6:14Speaker 6: longer than you want to stay. I asked my wife
- 6:19Speaker 6: where she got that from. She says, some old person
- 6:22Speaker 6: told it to her. She says, sining cost you more
- 6:25Speaker 6: than you want to pay and causes you to stay
- 6:28Speaker 6: longer than you want to stay. That's the problem, man,
- 6:31Speaker 6: about doing what you want to do. Because we are
- 6:34Speaker 6: all sinners man, all of us, all of us, every
- 6:37Speaker 6: last one of us a sinners. You will be a
- 6:39Speaker 6: sinner until you die. Now you could be saved by
- 6:42Speaker 6: grace but you're going to be a sinner man. You
- 6:45Speaker 6: are going to make mistakes. You are going to in
- 6:49Speaker 6: your life knowingly do wrong. I bet you will. I
- 6:54Speaker 6: don't know who you think you are. I don't know
- 6:56Speaker 6: who you've been listening to. But get this, we are sinners.
- 7:00Speaker 6: We were born into a world that is sinful. Now
- 7:05Speaker 6: it's okay, it's okay, it's our world. But we can
- 7:09Speaker 6: make the best of it because we can form a
- 7:11Speaker 6: relationship with God and we can go to war with
- 7:14Speaker 6: this thing, you know, and we can win. You can
- 7:16Speaker 6: actually get over. Being born into this world.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Is not an end all. It doesn't mean you're doomed,
- 7:24Speaker 2: nah man.
- 7:25Speaker 6: Because God is available to give you life, and not
- 7:28Speaker 6: only give you life, but give it to you more abundantly.
- 7:32Speaker 6: I have more of an abundant life than I've ever had.
- 7:35Speaker 6: If you took away the finances, trust and believe, I
- 7:40Speaker 6: have so many things I could tell you that I'm
- 7:42Speaker 6: grateful for. For my wife, for my children, man, for
- 7:47Speaker 6: my family, for the few friends that I have, for
- 7:52Speaker 6: the work that I do, man for the respect that
- 7:56Speaker 6: some people that I feel around, some people from the
- 7:59Speaker 6: repute Haiti I've earned. Now I ain't cool with everybody.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I got that.
- 8:04Speaker 6: I ain't cool with everybody. Everybody ain't cool with me.
- 8:07Speaker 6: Everybody don't like me. Man, get past that right there.
- 8:11Speaker 6: I don't care what you do. Everybody are gonna like you.
- 8:14Speaker 6: Some people didn't like Jesus. What did he do?
- 8:17Speaker 2: What did he do wrong to anybody?
- 8:21Speaker 6: Show it to me where he was just out there,
- 8:25Speaker 6: just messing over folks, and you could justify all that
- 8:28Speaker 6: happened to him. Just show it to me. But he
- 8:31Speaker 6: knew everybody ain't gonna like me. I just come to
- 8:35Speaker 6: save y'all, understand.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I got you.
- 8:38Speaker 6: Ain't feeling me. You're gonna spit on me. You're gonna
- 8:40Speaker 6: hang me up there, You're gonna.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Pierce my side.
- 8:43Speaker 6: You're gonna do all that to me. When you get through,
- 8:45Speaker 6: I still love you. That's a powerful statement. Man, God
- 8:49Speaker 6: will take care of you if you form this relationship
- 8:53Speaker 6: with him. He has something for you. He has a
- 8:57Speaker 6: plan for you that is beyond your imagine. He will
- 9:01Speaker 6: give you the desires of your heart. But he also
- 9:04Speaker 6: has some stuff in store for you that you're not
- 9:06Speaker 6: even asking for. That he is willing to ship to
- 9:10Speaker 6: an address that belongs to you as long as you
- 9:15Speaker 6: stay on the right path and are trying your best.
- 9:19Speaker 6: God to ship you the blessing anyway, because please know
- 9:21Speaker 6: He's done it to me. I'm a living witness to
- 9:24Speaker 6: this that God will ship you blessings and you ain't
- 9:26Speaker 6: gonna be perfect. But if he know your heart, man,
- 9:29Speaker 6: if he know you trying to do better, if he
- 9:32Speaker 6: see you trying to change, if he see you trying
- 9:34Speaker 6: to get it right, he understands that you're gonna stumble
- 9:38Speaker 6: all the way through this thing. But if he know
- 9:41Speaker 6: your heart and he know you trying to get it right,
- 9:44Speaker 6: and you're doing the best you can, boy, here ship
- 9:47Speaker 6: some stuff your way.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Man. You really be tripping, man, You will really be tripping.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Steve Harvey got a radio show. Man. It's crazy, ain't it.
- 9:57Speaker 7: You're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
- 10:03Speaker 6: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the ride on this very
- 10:07Speaker 6: very special MLK holiday Listen. This is a time, man,
- 10:14Speaker 6: where we ask everybody just consider what you can do
- 10:17Speaker 6: for your fellow man.
- 10:18Speaker 2: That's all it is.
- 10:20Speaker 6: We've been over this over and over and over again.
- 10:23Speaker 6: We're in some trying times. You already know this. Everything
- 10:27Speaker 6: that doctor King lived for and aspired for. Is all
- 10:32Speaker 6: up to the test right now, because we live in
- 10:35Speaker 6: a time right now where there are people in authoritative
- 10:38Speaker 6: position who care nothing about the principles that he lived for,
- 10:42Speaker 6: who care nothing about the life of legacy that he led.
- 10:48Speaker 6: They care nothing about it. So we are in some
- 10:51Speaker 6: times where we have to maintain as a people that
- 10:55Speaker 6: we are going to uphold and do our share and
- 10:58Speaker 6: our honor, our commitment to each other. I am forever
- 11:03Speaker 6: committed to each other as a whole, as a people,
- 11:07Speaker 6: and that's that's what he stood for. And so today
- 11:10Speaker 6: we will celebrate that. We have some special things going
- 11:14Speaker 6: on today. Welcome to the Ride, the Steve Harvey Morning
- 11:17Speaker 6: Show on Email K Day, a national holiday. Now, if
- 11:21Speaker 6: they get a chance to reverse that, they gonna do
- 11:23Speaker 6: that too. I'm telling y'all, man, but I will always
- 11:27Speaker 6: have an EMAILK Day. And you ain't getting it back,
- 11:30Speaker 6: you ain't taking it back. I'm forever, forever free.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:37Speaker 6: Charlie Strawberry Coline for Reil, Mississippi, Monica Junior and the
- 11:40Speaker 6: legend that is Nephew Tommy.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Folks, how y'all doing today?
- 11:47Speaker 5: Good?
- 11:47Speaker 1: Happy Mlkday, everybody very well. You know, made holiday what
- 11:55Speaker 1: are you thinking about, Steve.
- 11:56Speaker 2: It's a bit frustrating.
- 12:02Speaker 6: To watch the way the world is going right now,
- 12:05Speaker 6: to watch the policies that's being inacted and put in place,
- 12:09Speaker 6: and it's just discouraging. Because man, for a minute there
- 12:15Speaker 6: we were trying to move this thing along. But the
- 12:19Speaker 6: moment that slogan got created make America great again, it
- 12:25Speaker 6: has been in a dismal position over here every since,
- 12:31Speaker 6: every sense. And if you think it's better now, you
- 12:36Speaker 6: are sadly mistaken. And that is for everybody. It is
- 12:39Speaker 6: sadly mistaken. That's why I've always implored everybody get your
- 12:43Speaker 6: relationship with God together, because you're gonna need it. Because
- 12:47Speaker 6: as they try to take back all the gains Affirmative Action, DEI,
- 12:55Speaker 6: everything that they can do it remove black history from schools,
- 12:59Speaker 6: remove history books, take down building names, replace statues.
- 13:05Speaker 2: I mean, man, it is crazy.
- 13:09Speaker 6: And then it has made the hatred in this country
- 13:14Speaker 6: just raise and rear their ugly head. They feel powered now.
- 13:19Speaker 6: And so now you can climb on a letter, you
- 13:22Speaker 6: can climb the Capitol walls, you can break into the
- 13:26Speaker 6: greatest facility up there in Washington, DC, and then get free. Wow,
- 13:30Speaker 6: make America great again.
- 13:32Speaker 2: There you have it. They killing wife over now.
- 13:35Speaker 7: All right, yeah, coming up at thirty two minutes after
- 13:39Speaker 7: the hour, we're going to play some highlights from doctor
- 13:41Speaker 7: King's most famous speeches.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Right after this.
- 13:44Speaker 7: You're listening Steve Harvey Morning Show.
- 13:51Speaker 6: Right now, here's the drum major in stique speech on
- 13:53Speaker 6: the Steve Harvey Martin Show.
- 13:55Speaker 2: And instinct.
- 13:57Speaker 3: It's a kind of drum major instinct, a desire to
- 14:01Speaker 3: be out front, a desire to lead the parade, a
- 14:06Speaker 3: desire to be first. And it is something that runs
- 14:12Speaker 3: a whole gamut of life. And so before we condemn them,
- 14:21Speaker 3: let us see that we all have the drum mate instinct.
- 14:26Speaker 2: We all want to be.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Important, to surpass others, to achieve distinction, to lead the parade.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Alfred Adler the Great, a psychoanalyst, contends that this is
- 14:46Speaker 3: the dominant impulse. Sigmund Fraud used to contend that sex
- 14:51Speaker 3: was the dominant impulse, and Adler came with a new argument,
- 14:55Speaker 3: saying that this quest for recognition, this desire for attention,
- 15:02Speaker 3: this desire for distinction, is the basic impulse, the basic
- 15:10Speaker 3: drive of human human life, this drum major instinct. And
- 15:17Speaker 3: you know, we began earlier to ask life to put
- 15:20Speaker 3: us first. Our first cry as a baby was a
- 15:27Speaker 3: bid for attention, and all through childhood the drum major
- 15:34Speaker 3: impulse or instinct is a major obsession. Children ask life
- 15:44Speaker 3: to grant them first place. They are a little bundle
- 15:49Speaker 3: of ego. They have innately the drum major instinct. Now
- 16:01Speaker 3: in adult life we still have it, and we really
- 16:04Speaker 3: never get by it. We like to do something good,
- 16:11Speaker 3: and you know, we like to be praised for it. Now,
- 16:15Speaker 3: if you don't believe that, you just go on living
- 16:19Speaker 3: life and you will discover very soon that you like.
- 16:22Speaker 2: To be praised.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Everybody likes it as a matter of fact. And somehow
- 16:30Speaker 3: this warm glow we feel when we are praised or
- 16:34Speaker 3: when our name is in print is something of the
- 16:39Speaker 3: vitamin A to our ego. Nobody is unhappy when they
- 16:46Speaker 3: are praised, even if they know they don't deserve it,
- 16:50Speaker 3: and even if they don't believe it. The only unhappy
- 16:54Speaker 3: people about praise is when that praise is going too
- 16:57Speaker 3: much towards somebody else.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Right, But everybody likes to be.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Praised because of this real drum major instinct. Do you
- 17:10Speaker 3: know that a lot of the race problem grows out
- 17:14Speaker 3: of the drum major instinct, a need that some people have.
- 17:20Speaker 2: To feel superior, a.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Need that some people have to feel that they are first,
- 17:29Speaker 3: and to feel that their white skin ordain them to
- 17:34Speaker 3: be first.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Let's just plain the day, I'm against it.
- 17:38Speaker 3: And they have said over and over the game in
- 17:42Speaker 3: ways that we see with our own eyes. In fact,
- 17:47Speaker 3: not too long ago, a man down in Mississippi said
- 17:50Speaker 3: that God was a child a member of the white Citizens' Council.
- 18:00Speaker 2: And so God.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Being the child a member means that everybody who's in
- 18:05Speaker 3: that has a kind of divinity, a kind of superiority.
- 18:10Speaker 3: And think of what has happened in historism as a
- 18:13Speaker 3: result of this perverted use of the drum mage instinct
- 18:19Speaker 3: has led to the most tragic prejudice, the most tragic
- 18:23Speaker 3: expressions of.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Man's in humanity to man.
- 18:28Speaker 3: And not only does this thing go into the racial struggle,
- 18:32Speaker 3: it goes into the struggle between nations. And I would
- 18:37Speaker 3: submit to you this morning that what is wrong in
- 18:40Speaker 3: the world today is that the nations of the world
- 18:42Speaker 3: engaged in a bitter, colossal contest for supremacy. And if
- 18:48Speaker 3: some doesn't have them to stop this trend, I'm sorely
- 18:52Speaker 3: afraid that we won't be here to talk about Jesus
- 18:57Speaker 3: Christ and about God and about brotherhood too many more years.
- 19:03Speaker 2: If somebody doesn't bringing into this.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Suicidal thrust that we see in the world today, none
- 19:13Speaker 3: of us are gonna be around because somebody is gonna
- 19:16Speaker 3: make the mistake, through our senseless blunderings, of dropping a
- 19:20Speaker 3: nuclear bomb somewhere, and then another one is gonna drop.
- 19:24Speaker 3: And don't let anybody fool you. This can happen within
- 19:29Speaker 3: a matter of seconds. And they have twenty megatron bombs
- 19:33Speaker 3: in Russia right now that can destroy a city as
- 19:36Speaker 3: big as New York in three seconds, with everybody wiped
- 19:39Speaker 3: away in every building.
- 19:41Speaker 2: And we can do the same thing to Russian China.
- 19:44Speaker 3: But this is why we are drifted, and we are
- 19:46Speaker 3: drifting there because nations are caught up with the drum
- 19:51Speaker 3: major instinct. I must be first, I must be supreme
- 19:55Speaker 3: all A nation must rule the world.
- 19:58Speaker 2: And I am sad.
- 20:00Speaker 3: To say that the nation in which we live is
- 20:03Speaker 3: the supreme culprit. And I'm going to continue to say
- 20:07Speaker 3: it to America because I love this country too much
- 20:12Speaker 3: to see the drift.
- 20:13Speaker 2: That it has taken.
- 20:15Speaker 3: God didn't call America to do what she's doing in
- 20:18Speaker 3: the world. Now, God didn't call America to engage in
- 20:23Speaker 3: a senseless, unjust war as a war in Vietnam, and
- 20:28Speaker 3: we are criminals in that war. We've committed more war
- 20:32Speaker 3: crimes almost than any nation in the world.
- 20:34Speaker 2: And I'm going to continue to say it, and we won't.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Stop it because of our pride, and I recon sell
- 20:41Speaker 3: the nation. But God has a way of even putting
- 20:44Speaker 3: nations in that place.
- 20:46Speaker 2: The God that I.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Worship has a way of saying, don't play with me.
- 20:53Speaker 2: He has a way of saying.
- 20:55Speaker 3: There's a God of the Old Testament used to say
- 20:58Speaker 3: the Hebrew.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Don't play with me.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Don't play with Smith Babylon be stealing. Know that I'm God.
- 21:10Speaker 3: If you don't stuck your reckless cross our rise up
- 21:13Speaker 3: and break the backbone of your power. Nothing happened to America. Yeah,
- 21:20Speaker 3: every nine and then I go back and read Gibbon's
- 21:22Speaker 3: Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
- 21:25Speaker 2: When I come and look.
- 21:26Speaker 3: At America, I say to myself, the parallels are frightening.
- 21:31Speaker 2: We'll be right back, y'all.
- 21:32Speaker 1: You're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show, coming up.
- 21:39Speaker 7: At the top of the hour, we will interview Georgia
- 21:42Speaker 7: Senator Reverend Rafael Warnock on this King holiday. But right
- 21:46Speaker 7: now we continue with doctor King's speech about recognition and leadership,
- 21:51Speaker 7: the drum major instinct speech.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Nobody is unhappy when they are praised, even if they
- 21:59Speaker 3: know they don't deserve it, and even if they don't
- 22:01Speaker 3: believe it. The only unhappy people about praise is when
- 22:06Speaker 3: that praise is going too much towards somebody else. But
- 22:11Speaker 3: everybody likes to be praised because of this.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Real drum major instinct.
- 22:20Speaker 3: But you know that a lot of the race problem
- 22:23Speaker 3: grows out of the drum major instinct, a need that
- 22:28Speaker 3: some people have to feel superior, a need that some
- 22:35Speaker 3: people have to feel that they are first, and to
- 22:40Speaker 3: feel that their white skin ordain them to be first.
- 22:47Speaker 8: Day because I've against it.
- 22:48Speaker 3: And they have said over and over the game in
- 22:52Speaker 3: ways that we see with our own eyes. In fact,
- 22:57Speaker 3: not too long ago, a man down in Mississippi said
- 23:01Speaker 3: that God was a charter member of the White Citizens' Council,
- 23:10Speaker 3: and so God being the charter member means that everybody
- 23:15Speaker 3: who's in that has a kind of divinity, a kind
- 23:19Speaker 3: of superiority, and think of what has happened in historism
- 23:23Speaker 3: as a result of this perverted use of the drum
- 23:28Speaker 3: made instincts led to the most tragic prejudice, the most
- 23:33Speaker 3: tragic expressions.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Of man's in humanity to man.
- 23:40Speaker 3: And not only does this thing go into the racial struggle,
- 23:45Speaker 3: it goes into the struggle between nations. And I would
- 23:50Speaker 3: submit to you this morning that what is wrong in
- 23:53Speaker 3: the world today is that the nations of the world
- 23:55Speaker 3: engaged in a bitter, colossal contest for supremacy. And if
- 24:01Speaker 3: some doesn't have them to stop this trend, I'm sorely
- 24:05Speaker 3: afraid that we won't be here to talk about Jesus
- 24:10Speaker 3: Christ and about God and about brotherhood too many more years.
- 24:16Speaker 3: If somebody doesn't bring it in to this suicidal.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Thrust that we see in the world.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Today, none of us are going to be around because
- 24:27Speaker 3: somebody is gonna make the mistake, through our senseless blunderings,
- 24:32Speaker 3: of dropping a nuclear bomb somewhere, and then another one
- 24:36Speaker 3: is gonna drop. And don't let anybody fool you, this
- 24:41Speaker 3: can happen within a matter of seconds. They have twenty
- 24:44Speaker 3: megatron bombs in Russia right now that can destroy our
- 24:48Speaker 3: city as big as New York in three seconds, with
- 24:51Speaker 3: everybody wiped away in every building, and we can do
- 24:55Speaker 3: the same thing to Russian China. But this is why
- 24:57Speaker 3: we are drifted, and we are drifting that because nations
- 25:02Speaker 3: are caught up with the drum major instinct.
- 25:05Speaker 2: I must be first, I must be supreme all a
- 25:08Speaker 2: nation must rule the world.
- 25:11Speaker 3: And I am sad to say that the nation in
- 25:14Speaker 3: which we live is the supreme culprit. And I'm going
- 25:19Speaker 3: to continue to say it to America because I love
- 25:23Speaker 3: this country too much to see the drift that.
- 25:26Speaker 2: It has taken.
- 25:28Speaker 3: God didn't call America to do what she's doing in
- 25:31Speaker 3: the world now. God didn't call America to engage in
- 25:36Speaker 3: a senseless, unjust war as a war in Vietnam.
- 25:41Speaker 2: And we are criminals in that ward.
- 25:43Speaker 3: We've committed more war crimes almost than any nation in
- 25:46Speaker 3: the world. And I'm going to continue to say it,
- 25:49Speaker 3: and we won't stop it because of our pride, and
- 25:53Speaker 3: I recon sell the nation. But God has a way
- 25:57Speaker 3: of even putting nations in that place. God that I
- 26:00Speaker 3: worship has a way of saying, don't play with me.
- 26:07Speaker 3: He has a way of saying there's a god of
- 26:10Speaker 3: the Old Testament used to say the Hebrews, don't play
- 26:14Speaker 3: with me, Israel, don't play with me Babylon. Be steal
- 26:20Speaker 3: and know that I'm God. And if you don't stuck
- 26:25Speaker 3: your reckless course, I'll rise up and break the backbone
- 26:29Speaker 3: of your power. That can happen to America. Every nine
- 26:35Speaker 3: then I go back and read Gibbons Decline and fall
- 26:38Speaker 3: of the Roman Empire.
- 26:39Speaker 2: And when I come and look.
- 26:41Speaker 3: At America, I say to myself, the parallels are frightening.
- 26:47Speaker 3: We have perverted the drum maid's instinct.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Every nine then I.
- 26:54Speaker 3: Guess we all think realistically, yes, about that day when
- 27:00Speaker 3: we will be victimized with what is life's final common denominator.
- 27:06Speaker 3: That's something we call death. We all think about it.
- 27:13Speaker 3: And every nine and then I think about my own death,
- 27:17Speaker 3: and I think about my own funeral, and I don't
- 27:20Speaker 3: think of it in a morbid sense. Every nine then
- 27:24Speaker 3: I asked myself what is it that I would want say?
- 27:30Speaker 2: And I leave the word to you this morning, if
- 27:34Speaker 2: any of you around when I have to meet my day,
- 27:38Speaker 2: I don't want a long funeral.
- 27:42Speaker 3: And if it gets somebody to deliver the eulogy. Tell
- 27:45Speaker 3: them not to talk too long.
- 27:47Speaker 2: And every nine and then I wonder what I want
- 27:50Speaker 2: them to say.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Tell them not the mintion that I have a nobel
- 27:53Speaker 3: peace pride.
- 27:54Speaker 2: That isn't important. Tell them not to mention that I
- 27:58Speaker 2: have three or four hundred of our world.
- 28:00Speaker 3: That's not important. Tell him not to mention where I
- 28:02Speaker 3: went to school. I like somebody to mention that day,
- 28:08Speaker 3: then Martin Luther King Junior tried to give his life
- 28:12Speaker 3: serving others. I'd like for somebody to say that day
- 28:17Speaker 3: that Martin Luther King Junior tried to love somebody. I
- 28:22Speaker 3: want you to say that day that I tried to
- 28:24Speaker 3: be right on the walk question. I want you to
- 28:28Speaker 3: be able to say that day that I did try
- 28:32Speaker 3: to feed the hungrad I want you to be able
- 28:35Speaker 3: to say that day that I did try in my
- 28:38Speaker 3: life to close those who were neked.
- 28:41Speaker 2: I want you to say on that day that.
- 28:43Speaker 3: I did try in my life to visit thors who
- 28:46Speaker 3: were imprisoned. I want you to say that I.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Tried to love and serve humanity.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Yes, if you want to say that I was a
- 28:56Speaker 3: drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Say that I was a drum major for peace. I
- 29:04Speaker 3: was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the
- 29:07Speaker 3: other shallow things will not matter. I won't have any
- 29:12Speaker 3: money to leave behind, I won't have the fine and
- 29:17Speaker 3: luxurious things of life to leave behind. But I just
- 29:20Speaker 3: want to leave or committed life behind, and.
- 29:24Speaker 2: That's all I want to say. If I can help
- 29:27Speaker 2: somebody as.
- 29:28Speaker 3: I pass along, if I can cheer somebody with a
- 29:33Speaker 3: wilder song, if I can show somebody he's traveling wrong,
- 29:37Speaker 3: then my living will not be invained. If I can
- 29:42Speaker 3: do my duty as a Christian art, if I can
- 29:45Speaker 3: bring salvation to a wall once wrought, if I can
- 29:49Speaker 3: spread the message as the Master taught, then my.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Living will not be in vained.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Yes, Jesus, I want to be on your right, your
- 30:00Speaker 3: left side, not for any selfish reason. I want to
- 30:04Speaker 3: be on your right, on your left side, not in
- 30:08Speaker 3: times of some political kingdom or ambition, And I just
- 30:12Speaker 3: want to be there in love and injustice.
- 30:17Speaker 6: Attention to Steve Harvey Nation. On this king Holiday, I
- 30:20Speaker 6: want to see y'all giving back to day. Okay, please
- 30:23Speaker 6: don't just make this a day off, make it a
- 30:25Speaker 6: day on. Okay, We'll be right back y'all.
- 30:27Speaker 7: You're listening Steve Harvey Morning Show.
- 30:35Speaker 6: Doctor Martin Luther King Junior once said that life's most
- 30:38Speaker 6: persistent and urgent question is what are you doing for others?
- 30:43Speaker 6: Come together, everybody and serve your communities. How he's influenced
- 30:47Speaker 6: me is big. He's a reason I'm here. He's a
- 30:50Speaker 6: reason why the elections stuff is going on today is
- 30:53Speaker 6: the way it is. You know, this man, you know,
- 30:55Speaker 6: gave his life for what he believed in. So he
- 30:57Speaker 6: meant the world to me, you know. And yes, I
- 31:00Speaker 6: named after Martin. Everybody else promised we got a special
- 31:04Speaker 6: guest this morning. He's a family member, though he's a
- 31:08Speaker 6: family member right around the corner from us, most of
- 31:11Speaker 6: us that live in this vicinity. He's a United States Senator.
- 31:16Speaker 6: He's also Georgia's first black senator. He's also served as
- 31:21Speaker 6: the senior pastor at the Ebenezia Baptist Church in Atlanta
- 31:25Speaker 6: since two thousand and five.
- 31:27Speaker 2: And this is the very church.
- 31:29Speaker 6: That doctor Martin Luther King passed during the Civil rights movement.
- 31:34Speaker 6: So it's only fitting that he joins us to highlight
- 31:37Speaker 6: doctor King's legacy.
- 31:38Speaker 2: So let's get to it.
- 31:39Speaker 6: Please, welcome to the show the Honorable Reverend doctor Senator
- 31:42Speaker 6: Raphael Warnut.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Yeah, welcome back.
- 31:46Speaker 8: Hello, so great to be with you.
- 31:50Speaker 5: Man.
- 31:50Speaker 2: How you feeling man, Happy King day?
- 31:53Speaker 8: You know, I'm feeling good. I'm feeling inspired and encouraged.
- 31:58Speaker 8: And and here's why that they found strange at a
- 32:01Speaker 8: time like this, But you know, every time we come
- 32:04Speaker 8: around to this time of year celebrating doctor Martin Uther King, Jr.
- 32:10Speaker 8: I'm reminded not only of his work, but of the
- 32:14Speaker 8: improbable odds that he could succeed. You know, I think
- 32:19Speaker 8: we look back at the civil rights movement and we
- 32:23Speaker 8: act as if those victories were inevitable. They were quite improbable,
- 32:27Speaker 8: they were unlikely. And yet he and the band, the
- 32:31Speaker 8: folks who stood with him, set out in their words
- 32:35Speaker 8: to redeem the soul of America, and all of us
- 32:39Speaker 8: are the blessed beneficiaries of the efforts of them keeping
- 32:42Speaker 8: the faith. And I think that's so important in the
- 32:44Speaker 8: moment like this, when it's so dark and we are
- 32:48Speaker 8: tempted to give in and to give up. Who are
- 32:52Speaker 8: we to give up? Doctor King and others stood up
- 32:55Speaker 8: and we're called, this is our moment, this is our time.
- 33:00Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, let's kind of stay right there too, Senator,
- 33:03Speaker 6: because you know, let's talk about the current state that
- 33:08Speaker 6: we are in here in this country, especially under this
- 33:10Speaker 6: current leadership and administration, it's been focusing on erasing the
- 33:15Speaker 6: civil rights movement from history books. What message do you
- 33:20Speaker 6: have for the younger generation, especially for men, to kind
- 33:24Speaker 6: of keep them encouraged.
- 33:27Speaker 8: Now, there's no question there's an all out of sault
- 33:31Speaker 8: on our humanity. And you know what I would say
- 33:36Speaker 8: to young men who are listening to me right now,
- 33:38Speaker 8: and what I would say to people of color, is
- 33:43Speaker 8: that obviously your adversary see your power. If you don't
- 33:48Speaker 8: know that you're powerful, your adversaries certainly know it. If
- 33:51Speaker 8: you don't know that your vote matters, clearly they know
- 33:55Speaker 8: that it counts and that it matters. Otherwise they wouldn't
- 33:59Speaker 8: be working so hard to rob you of your power,
- 34:01Speaker 8: to rob you of your vote, to rob you of
- 34:04Speaker 8: your voice. And I can tell you, as someone who
- 34:06Speaker 8: ran for the United States sinning and won a couple
- 34:10Speaker 8: of times, that I've seen this firsthand. You know, as
- 34:14Speaker 8: I won the first time, they came after my victory
- 34:18Speaker 8: with surgical precision, with all kinds of tricks to try
- 34:21Speaker 8: to make it difficult for us to win. We literally
- 34:23Speaker 8: had to take them to court so that people could
- 34:27Speaker 8: vote the first weekend of the runoff, because they saw
- 34:29Speaker 8: this multi racial coalition of conscience standing up at a
- 34:34Speaker 8: moment in our country saying we're going to do this,
- 34:37Speaker 8: and we won. And I won in some ways, I
- 34:41Speaker 8: wasn't really by the margin of our victory in court.
- 34:45Speaker 2: And so in this moment.
- 34:47Speaker 8: Know that you have power, you have possibility, you have
- 34:51Speaker 8: a voice. Often say that a vote is a kind
- 34:54Speaker 8: of prayer for the world that we desire for ourselves
- 34:58Speaker 8: and for our children, and we have to pray with
- 35:00Speaker 8: our lips and our legs, our hands, and our feet.
- 35:03Speaker 8: Refuse to give in to those who're trying to weaponize
- 35:07Speaker 8: despair the civil rights movement, Doctor King, but not only him,
- 35:12Speaker 8: people like Fanny lou Hamer and Ella Baker, some of
- 35:16Speaker 8: the young people and the women who stood up with him.
- 35:19Speaker 8: Reminded us that it's really not about the people in power.
- 35:22Speaker 8: Its about the power that's in the people. And in
- 35:26Speaker 8: this moment when fifteen million Americans have lost their healthcare,
- 35:31Speaker 8: in this moment when they're literally trying to erase, as
- 35:34Speaker 8: you said, Steve, our history in this moment in which
- 35:39Speaker 8: they are putting boots on the ground in our cities,
- 35:44Speaker 8: militarizing our streets, trying to convince us that our adversaries
- 35:50Speaker 8: are our neighbors, that we are at war with one another.
- 35:55Speaker 8: We have to stand up in this moment. And as
- 35:57Speaker 8: doctor King said, the ark of the moral universe is long,
- 36:01Speaker 8: but it bends towards justice. And I pray that in
- 36:04Speaker 8: this day and in this moment, we'll be inspired to
- 36:07Speaker 8: keep been in that art.
- 36:08Speaker 6: Hey, a doctor Warner, can you hold on? Sorry, Senator Warner,
- 36:12Speaker 6: can you hold on one second. We're going to take
- 36:15Speaker 6: a break, and we're going to keep you a little
- 36:16Speaker 6: bit longer because we want to hear more of this.
- 36:18Speaker 6: We'll be right back with more of the Steve Harvey
- 36:20Speaker 6: Morning Show.
- 36:23Speaker 7: It took America two hundred and seven years to create
- 36:27Speaker 7: a holiday. I didn't know that either, honoring a person
- 36:30Speaker 7: of African descent, and even that was a bitter struggle.
- 36:33Speaker 7: You remember, back on November two, nineteen eighty three, President
- 36:37Speaker 7: Ronald Reagan signed a bill creating a federal holiday. And
- 36:42Speaker 7: coming up, we are going to play some of doctor
- 36:44Speaker 7: King's I Have a Dream speech in which he called
- 36:46Speaker 7: for racial equality.
- 36:48Speaker 1: And an end to discrimination.
- 36:49Speaker 2: That's my speech.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes.
- 36:52Speaker 7: King's delivery of the speech on August twenty eighth, nineteen
- 36:55Speaker 7: sixty three, from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during
- 36:58Speaker 7: the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom was a
- 37:01Speaker 7: defining moment of the American civil rights moment. Delivered to
- 37:04Speaker 7: over two hundred thousand civil rights supporters, the speech is
- 37:08Speaker 7: often considered to be one of the greatest and most
- 37:11Speaker 7: notable speeches.
- 37:13Speaker 1: In human history.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Oh, no doubt, it was a great sho Yes.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yeah. You're listening to Steve Harvey Morning Show.
- 37:24Speaker 6: A right, everybody, we're back and special guest this morning
- 37:28Speaker 6: is a Senator, doctor, doctor Senator Raphael Warnock, who is
- 37:33Speaker 6: the pastor the Ebenezer Baptist Church, the same church that
- 37:36Speaker 6: was pasted by the legendary honorable Doctor King, Martin Luther King,
- 37:42Speaker 6: and he's with us today and we're talking about several
- 37:46Speaker 6: things here. You know, man, when you talk about when
- 37:49Speaker 6: you were talking about the crisis here in the country,
- 37:53Speaker 6: about how hard of a cahart it is with the
- 37:55Speaker 6: cost of living and all of these things like this,
- 37:58Speaker 6: and you said we were in a spiritual crisis tell
- 38:02Speaker 6: me what you meant by that.
- 38:04Speaker 8: Well, look, the fact of the matter is all of
- 38:07Speaker 8: this did not happen all at once. Over the last
- 38:13Speaker 8: few decades, we have seen a massive transfer of wealth
- 38:19Speaker 8: from the bottom to the top. By the way, last summer,
- 38:22Speaker 8: we did see with the passage of the what they
- 38:25Speaker 8: allegedly called the One Big, Beautiful Bill, the largest transfer
- 38:29Speaker 8: of wealth from the bottom to the top in American history,
- 38:34Speaker 8: and just that one bill. But this has been going
- 38:36Speaker 8: on for a long time, and Americans have seen a
- 38:42Speaker 8: growing chasm, not only in terms of wealth, but a
- 38:45Speaker 8: growing chasm between the things that they need, like healthcare,
- 38:50Speaker 8: a livable wage, affordable housing. In a country where now,
- 38:55Speaker 8: on average, the age of a first time homeowner now
- 38:59Speaker 8: has gone up to age forty, Americans have sat back
- 39:03Speaker 8: and watched us witness horror after horror of mass shooting
- 39:07Speaker 8: after mass shooting, and yet we can't get the kind
- 39:10Speaker 8: of legislation that we need through the Congress. And so
- 39:14Speaker 8: as people see this happen, there's growing chasm between their
- 39:19Speaker 8: needs and what the government is able to deliver to
- 39:22Speaker 8: its people. At a democracy, the cynicism sets in and
- 39:27Speaker 8: people become very frustrated and angry, and rather than looking
- 39:31Speaker 8: towards one another, they start to turn on each other.
- 39:35Speaker 8: And I think that that really creates the ground and
- 39:38Speaker 8: sets the context for a strong man like Donald Trump
- 39:42Speaker 8: who comes along and says, you know, I'm I'm the
- 39:45Speaker 8: only one who can solve your problem. And sadly many
- 39:49Speaker 8: of our citizens heard that message. But that ain't that
- 39:53Speaker 8: they feel is real. It's the solution that was wrong,
- 39:57Speaker 8: and the strong men like him step into the gap,
- 40:01Speaker 8: and they further divide us. And so that's what I
- 40:03Speaker 8: mean by the spiritual crisis. I believe that spiritual needs
- 40:08Speaker 8: and meeting people's physical needs are inextricably connected, and when
- 40:13Speaker 8: those things can't happen, it represents a basic tear in
- 40:18Speaker 8: the covenant and the fabric of the covenant that we
- 40:21Speaker 8: have of one another as an American people. And so
- 40:23Speaker 8: as a pastor who serves in the Senate, as the
- 40:27Speaker 8: leader of Doctor King's Ebenezer Baptist Church, who serves in
- 40:32Speaker 8: government every single day preaching them about Jesus feeding the
- 40:36Speaker 8: five thousand, and then trying to deliver that through public policy.
- 40:40Speaker 8: When I go up to Washington during the week, I'm
- 40:43Speaker 8: calling us to renew the commitment that we have to
- 40:46Speaker 8: one another as an American people, the whole, powerful politicians
- 40:52Speaker 8: and the corporate lobbyists and big corporate entities that own them,
- 40:58Speaker 8: to hold them accountable. Certainly, we're looking towards the midterm,
- 41:02Speaker 8: but we can't wait until the midterm. We have to
- 41:04Speaker 8: continue to fight the good fight in this moment.
- 41:07Speaker 6: Yeah. Hey, hold on, doctor Warner, Senator Warner. Oh, we'll
- 41:12Speaker 6: be right back. We got more with the Steve Harvey
- 41:14Speaker 6: Morning Show right after this.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Harvey Morning Show.
- 41:23Speaker 6: And everybody, We're back on the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
- 41:26Speaker 6: And our very very special guest this morning is Reverend
- 41:29Speaker 6: doctor Raphael Warnock, Senator from Georgia.
- 41:32Speaker 2: I like all mine. If I get to be any
- 41:35Speaker 2: of it.
- 41:35Speaker 8: I don't care what you call. Just call me a
- 41:37Speaker 8: time for lunch.
- 41:39Speaker 6: Yeah, Senator, here's here's a pressing thing that comes through
- 41:43Speaker 6: our phone lines and emails bag all the time. We
- 41:47Speaker 6: know who the president is. I mean, we're stunned at
- 41:52Speaker 6: what he's allowed to say, what he's allowed to do,
- 41:56Speaker 6: and how he goes about doing it. And we watched
- 41:59Speaker 6: the Republican Party. This man has taken over a party
- 42:05Speaker 6: to the point where whatever he says, goals, what are
- 42:10Speaker 6: we doing or what can we do about this? Because
- 42:13Speaker 6: it just seems like he just got free hand.
- 42:16Speaker 8: Part of what we've got to do is we've got
- 42:20Speaker 8: to we've got to flip the House and we've got
- 42:22Speaker 8: to flip the Senate. We can do that in twenty
- 42:25Speaker 8: twenty six, and that will put some checks on this president.
- 42:29Speaker 8: The challenge we have right now is that they have
- 42:32Speaker 8: a trifector. They've got the White House, they got the House,
- 42:36Speaker 8: and they've got the Senate. So you take the House,
- 42:38Speaker 8: for example, if we had the majority in the House,
- 42:41Speaker 8: we'd have subpoena power. We'd be able to call folks
- 42:45Speaker 8: to account, We'd be able to hold them accountable in
- 42:47Speaker 8: a different way. Now, we still do have some of
- 42:50Speaker 8: that power because I sit on committees in the Senate
- 42:53Speaker 8: where the various secretaries of this administration have to come
- 42:56Speaker 8: in front of us. And if you go back, you
- 43:00Speaker 8: know a few months ago, I was one of the
- 43:03Speaker 8: first members of Congress to call for Secretary of Pete
- 43:06Speaker 8: Hexcess dismissal. I said that the President ought to fire him,
- 43:10Speaker 8: and if he didn't fire him, he needed to resign.
- 43:12Speaker 8: And so, as a member of the Senate. As a
- 43:14Speaker 8: member of Congress, we have the power of oversight to
- 43:18Speaker 8: hold people accountable, but they do have the majority, and
- 43:22Speaker 8: so what we've seen is these Republicans literally just give
- 43:26Speaker 8: all their power over to the President. And the answer
- 43:31Speaker 8: to that is for us to make sure we show
- 43:34Speaker 8: up and show up big in the midterms. Flip the House,
- 43:37Speaker 8: flip the Senate. We can check him and hold him
- 43:40Speaker 8: to account, and then come twenty twenty eight, we can
- 43:44Speaker 8: then win the White House. And if we win the
- 43:47Speaker 8: White House, We've got a whole range of things that
- 43:49Speaker 8: I think we ought to be doing around healthcare, around
- 43:52Speaker 8: affordable housing, and most importantly, around repairing our democracy because
- 43:58Speaker 8: increasingly we've seen the people's voice squeeze out of their democracy.
- 44:03Speaker 8: And again, because this is King Day, I'm always inspired
- 44:07Speaker 8: by that movement and by what it represented. Right after
- 44:10Speaker 8: they passed the Civil Rights Bill into law, doctor King
- 44:13Speaker 8: and those who were working with him went to see
- 44:15Speaker 8: President Johnson, who was the president at the time and
- 44:19Speaker 8: something of an ally in the White House, and Doctor
- 44:22Speaker 8: King said, you know, I'm glad you were able to
- 44:25Speaker 8: help us and we got the civil Rights Bill passed
- 44:27Speaker 8: and the law. He said, I need a voting rights law.
- 44:30Speaker 8: Doctor King wasted no time. He said, I need voting rights,
- 44:32Speaker 8: and the President began to say in various ways, Doctor King,
- 44:36Speaker 8: you're right, I understand, but I can't get that done
- 44:39Speaker 8: right now. The President of the United States kept saying
- 44:41Speaker 8: various ways, I don't have the power. I just don't
- 44:44Speaker 8: have the power Martin to do that right now. And
- 44:47Speaker 8: they left the meeting, and the staff was sealing, all
- 44:50Speaker 8: dejected and demoralized and said, Doc, what are we going
- 44:52Speaker 8: to do. The President of the United States said he
- 44:54Speaker 8: doesn't have the power to get us some voting rights,
- 44:57Speaker 8: and doctor King said, well, if the President doesn't have
- 45:00Speaker 8: any power, we're going to have to go back down
- 45:02Speaker 8: to the South and get himself. That the King understood
- 45:05Speaker 8: that the power really is with the people, and so
- 45:08Speaker 8: that a people like me who really are fighting every
- 45:10Speaker 8: single day for the people that we represent. But I'm
- 45:15Speaker 8: really clear that it's really ordinary, everyday people who organize,
- 45:20Speaker 8: who stand up, who push back, who create the context
- 45:23Speaker 8: for the change that we need to see in our country.
- 45:26Speaker 6: Well, brother, I'll tell you what all we need is
- 45:28Speaker 6: to march in orders around here. And I think it's
- 45:31Speaker 6: clear you've given it to us. Because okay, look, the
- 45:34Speaker 6: mid terms, so we can bust up this trifecta. You
- 45:37Speaker 6: can't just you just running gangst uff in here now, man.
- 45:40Speaker 6: So we you know, you know we we're gonna show
- 45:43Speaker 6: up in the polls. You right, We got to show up, man.
- 45:46Speaker 6: So mid terms is the call. That's what we're gonna.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Do, sir.
- 45:50Speaker 8: The answer to this is the win the winding mid terms.
- 45:53Speaker 6: All right, that's what we're gonna do, Senator warnick Man,
- 45:56Speaker 6: thank you so much. I appreciate your efforts man, and
- 45:59Speaker 6: your heart.
- 46:00Speaker 8: I will have I'd be remiss about it and remind you,
- 46:02Speaker 8: Steve that doctor King was an alpha. I love you guys.
- 46:15Speaker 7: All right, you're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
- 46:23Speaker 7: We gotta say Happy MLK Day. Today is Martin Luther
- 46:27Speaker 7: King Day. We are celebrating. But even though we are
- 46:30Speaker 7: celebrating Martin Luther King, who stood for peace, America is
- 46:34Speaker 7: just still so divided with hate and racism these days,
- 46:38Speaker 7: and now more than ever, should we make it our
- 46:43Speaker 7: purpose to live out doctor King's legacy. However, just last week,
- 46:48Speaker 7: during an interview with The New York Times, President Trump
- 46:51Speaker 7: doubled down in his attacks against diversity, equity, and inclusion,
- 46:57Speaker 7: DEI claiming that white people have been quote very badly
- 47:01Speaker 7: treated since the passage of the nineteen sixty four Civil
- 47:05Speaker 7: Rights Act.
- 47:06Speaker 2: What how becuse me?
- 47:10Speaker 7: He said, quote well, I think that a lot of
- 47:12Speaker 7: people were very badly treated. White people were very badly
- 47:16Speaker 7: treated when they did extremely where they did extremely well,
- 47:20Speaker 7: and they were not invited to go to a university
- 47:23Speaker 7: or college. Now, according to US News, Trump's comments were
- 47:27Speaker 7: a clear attack on affirmative action for college admissions, which
- 47:31Speaker 7: was effectively ended by a twenty twenty three Supreme Court ruling.
- 47:35Speaker 7: We all remember that he did not cite any data
- 47:41Speaker 7: suggesting that white students have been disadvantaged by the Civil
- 47:45Speaker 7: Rights Act or the Civil Rights Policy. NAACP president Derek
- 47:49Speaker 7: Johnson says that there was no evidence that white men
- 47:53Speaker 7: were discriminated against as a result of the civil rights movement,
- 47:57Speaker 7: but he just is allowed to say.
- 48:01Speaker 6: The Vice President had said a week before that he
- 48:05Speaker 6: was in a speech saying, at some little convention they have,
- 48:09Speaker 6: he said that we're trying to create a country where
- 48:16Speaker 6: white people don't have to be ashamed of being white,
- 48:20Speaker 6: or white people don't have to apologize for being white.
- 48:26Speaker 6: Let me say this as a black person, I have
- 48:28Speaker 6: never ever required, not a single white person I know,
- 48:32Speaker 6: to apologize to me for being white. I have never
- 48:36Speaker 6: ever required that. I am fine with everybody being who
- 48:40Speaker 6: they are, whatever color you are. What he means by
- 48:45Speaker 6: that statement, I think is that we want to create
- 48:50Speaker 6: an America what white people don't have to apologize for
- 48:53Speaker 6: being white. I think what he really meant to say
- 48:58Speaker 6: is he's tired of people thinking they have to apologize
- 49:03Speaker 6: for what they've done. That's really what it is. So
- 49:09Speaker 6: you want to be okay to go about the business
- 49:12Speaker 6: of doing what you've been doing and to not have
- 49:15Speaker 6: to apologize for it. Because what that statement says to
- 49:20Speaker 6: me is when you say I don't want white people
- 49:24Speaker 6: that have to apologize for being white, what you're saying
- 49:27Speaker 6: is I don't want white people to have to apologize
- 49:29Speaker 6: for doing the things that we do because we're white.
- 49:33Speaker 6: And this only goes for a very very small percentage
- 49:36Speaker 6: of white people. The majority of white people I know
- 49:42Speaker 6: are really cool people. The majority. But it's enough in power,
- 49:49Speaker 6: enough in people in position, it's enough people behind closed
- 49:54Speaker 6: doors to negate all the good work that they do do,
- 50:00Speaker 6: and it's at the forefront and just look at what
- 50:02Speaker 6: they're doing right now. Every game they wanted back, because
- 50:09Speaker 6: that's all a part of making America great again. To
- 50:13Speaker 6: take back any games that you've given to anybody that
- 50:17Speaker 6: isn't white. That's all this is. That's why you get
- 50:22Speaker 6: rid of affirmative action. DEI nobody, no man. What DEI
- 50:26Speaker 6: did was it was to level the playing field so
- 50:30Speaker 6: you would have to consider hiring other people other than
- 50:35Speaker 6: your friends and your circle.
- 50:36Speaker 2: That's what DEI was created for.
- 50:38Speaker 6: It made you have to consider because what they were
- 50:42Speaker 6: doing was they were just doing the little good old
- 50:44Speaker 6: boy game and just bringing a family nepotism, putting people
- 50:48Speaker 6: in position they wanted to. But d I said you
- 50:50Speaker 6: had to consider this, and it didn't say you have
- 50:52Speaker 6: to consider them even if they were a lesser candidate.
- 50:56Speaker 6: That's not what it said. Like Charlie Kirk was trying
- 50:58Speaker 6: to say, No, DULD created so you would have to
- 51:01Speaker 6: consider consider the qualified people for the position. D I
- 51:08Speaker 6: didn't create a bunch of unqualified people in a bunch
- 51:11Speaker 6: of positions they didn't belong in.
- 51:13Speaker 2: It never.
- 51:14Speaker 6: It never did that. It made you have to consider
- 51:19Speaker 6: qualified people to feel positions in this country. They've now
- 51:24Speaker 6: taken that back where Now all they're saying is we
- 51:26Speaker 6: ain't even got to consider you know, because we was
- 51:30Speaker 6: gonna give it to one of our friends, another white
- 51:32Speaker 6: person anyway, and now we ain't got to do that.
- 51:36Speaker 6: That's what make America Great Again stands for and for
- 51:40Speaker 6: these black Republicans out here, y'all, man, y'all, y'all, y'all,
- 51:45Speaker 6: the worst of the worst. I don't even know how you.
- 51:48Speaker 6: I don't even know how you how you rationalize this
- 51:51Speaker 6: in your mind? You really think they talking about you?
- 51:54Speaker 6: Are you listening to the policies? You ain't in none
- 51:57Speaker 6: of the policies the Republican Party come up with, But
- 51:59Speaker 6: you keep acting like they ain't talking about you.
- 52:01Speaker 2: They are talking about your black Stephenez. They're talking about you, man.
- 52:12Speaker 6: These black conservatives like you, like you, like you cause
- 52:15Speaker 6: you over there and you agree with them that you
- 52:17Speaker 6: immune to the repercussions.
- 52:20Speaker 9: You not.
- 52:23Speaker 8: For.
- 52:23Speaker 6: All they want you to do is expound their theories
- 52:27Speaker 6: that policies for and as soon as they get them,
- 52:29Speaker 6: they're gonna get rid of you too. Tim Scott ain't
- 52:32Speaker 6: got no position. Herschel Walker ain't got no position. Because
- 52:35Speaker 6: when they get through with you, they just throw you
- 52:37Speaker 6: all away from here. And all you new cats that
- 52:41Speaker 6: keep running all this new Republican philosophy down, they're gonna
- 52:45Speaker 6: throw you away too.
- 52:48Speaker 10: And I understand what you're saying that, but let's not
- 52:50Speaker 10: run off the white folks that want to apologize. Listen,
- 52:53Speaker 10: if you want to apologize, white people, call us at
- 52:56Speaker 10: one eight seven twenty nine st call it in an apologize.
- 52:59Speaker 10: We'll take you if you want to part of that.
- 53:01Speaker 10: You want to get it off your chick, just call
- 53:03Speaker 10: it one and nine Steve. We're taking white folks to
- 53:07Speaker 10: pology right here on m Okay, thank you.
- 53:11Speaker 7: You're gonna answer the phone, Timmy, Hello.
- 53:14Speaker 10: Hello, Hey, you know something.
- 53:19Speaker 2: Here's a deal. Now. I understand this right here.
- 53:22Speaker 6: I can understand that a white person it's tired of
- 53:26Speaker 6: being blamed for the decisions and actions of their forefathers.
- 53:30Speaker 2: I get that they.
- 53:32Speaker 6: Don't have slaves, they don't enact slavery, they don't want it.
- 53:36Speaker 6: That part I get. What they don't understand is we
- 53:43Speaker 6: are tired of some of those same policies still continue.
- 53:50Speaker 6: We know slavery's over with, but but we need the
- 53:54Speaker 6: rest of them to act like.
- 53:56Speaker 5: It is.
- 53:58Speaker 2: Right, and do better.
- 54:04Speaker 1: And breathe.
- 54:07Speaker 6: And you know what, like Trump said, every sense, civil
- 54:10Speaker 6: rights rights have been treated badly. Do you understand what
- 54:13Speaker 6: the term civil rights means. Civil rights didn't mean right,
- 54:18Speaker 6: Civil rights didn't mean give us more. Just treat us civil,
- 54:24Speaker 6: that we have the right to be treated civil.
- 54:28Speaker 2: That's all it is.
- 54:30Speaker 6: But you don't want to do that because in treating
- 54:33Speaker 6: us civil it cost you something. You think it cost
- 54:37Speaker 6: you position. Yeah, when it did. It did cost you
- 54:41Speaker 6: some positions because you can't have all the positions.
- 54:45Speaker 2: So that's what affirmative action was, right. We forced you
- 54:48Speaker 2: to look.
- 54:49Speaker 6: At hiring someone other than yourself. That's all it is. Man,
- 54:55Speaker 6: So you know, oh boy, and he.
- 54:59Speaker 10: Calls not yet, but we eight seven seven twenty nine
- 55:04Speaker 10: steak looking for white folks.
- 55:05Speaker 2: Give us a shower. I want apologize about yester years.
- 55:09Speaker 2: We're here. Thank you. Hey, Tommy, when we come back,
- 55:13Speaker 2: Tommy and I should they be a crime? I'm really sorry. Well,
- 55:18Speaker 2: Tommy and I will have a phone call when we
- 55:20Speaker 2: come back.
- 55:21Speaker 7: Oh okay, all right, Uh, but I'm calling her crying
- 55:28Speaker 7: and lying now.
- 55:29Speaker 2: I don't do that.
- 55:30Speaker 1: I don't really coming up at the top of the hour.
- 55:37Speaker 1: We'll have more of this ignorant show.
- 55:42Speaker 7: On Martin Luther King Day on this holiday as we
- 55:45Speaker 7: celebrate right after this all right eight.
- 55:47Speaker 10: Seven seven twenty nine, steak as the bells.
- 55:51Speaker 11: Toll, We commit to a life of service because Doctor King.
- 55:55Speaker 1: One of my favorite quotes.
- 55:57Speaker 11: From him is not everybody can be famous, but everybody
- 56:01Speaker 11: can be great because greatness is determined by service.
- 56:04Speaker 6: Martin Luther King, you know, to me, is just one
- 56:07Speaker 6: of the best because of what he did and the
- 56:09Speaker 6: contributions he made.
- 56:10Speaker 2: And we're here to celebrate that all day to day.
- 56:13Speaker 1: You're listening Steve Hardy Morning Show.
- 56:19Speaker 2: Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr.
- 56:21Speaker 6: Once Said that life's most persistent and urgent question is
- 56:24Speaker 6: what are you doing for others? Coming up, we got
- 56:27Speaker 6: some excerpts from doctor King's I've Been to the Mountaintop speech.
- 56:31Speaker 3: Let us rise up tonight with a greater readiness in these.
- 56:39Speaker 2: Powerful days.
- 56:41Speaker 3: These days are challenge to make America what it ought
- 56:46Speaker 3: to be. We have an opportunity to make America a
- 56:51Speaker 3: better nation.
- 56:53Speaker 2: And I want to thank God.
- 56:56Speaker 3: Once more for allowing me to be here with you.
- 57:00Speaker 3: You know, several years ago I was in New York City,
- 57:04Speaker 3: autographing the first book that I had written. While sitting
- 57:08Speaker 3: they autographing books, the minute black woman came up. The
- 57:14Speaker 3: only question I.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Heard from her was you Martin Luther King?
- 57:19Speaker 3: And I was looking down writing and I said yes.
- 57:23Speaker 3: The next minute I felt something beating on my chest.
- 57:26Speaker 3: Before I knew it, I had been stabbed by this
- 57:29Speaker 3: deminuted woman. I was rushed to Hullum Hospital. It was
- 57:33Speaker 3: a dog Saturday afternoon. That blade had gone through in
- 57:39Speaker 3: X raised revealed that the tip of the blade was
- 57:43Speaker 3: on the edge of my heir order the main artery
- 57:47Speaker 3: and one that's puncture. You drowned in your own blood.
- 57:50Speaker 3: That's the end of you. It came out in the
- 57:54Speaker 3: New York Times the next morning that if I had
- 57:56Speaker 3: merely sneezed, I would have died.
- 58:00Speaker 8: Well.
- 58:00Speaker 3: About four days later, they allowed me after the operation,
- 58:04Speaker 3: after my chest had been opening the blade had been
- 58:07Speaker 3: taken out, to move around in the wheelchair in the hospital.
- 58:11Speaker 3: They allowed me to read some of the mail that
- 58:13Speaker 3: came in and from all over the States and the world.
- 58:17Speaker 3: Kind letters came in. I read a few, but one
- 58:22Speaker 3: of them I will never forget. I had received one
- 58:25Speaker 3: from the President and the Vice President. I've forgotten what
- 58:29Speaker 3: those telegrams said. I received the visit and a letter
- 58:32Speaker 3: from the Governor of New York, but I've forgotten what
- 58:35Speaker 3: that letter say it.
- 58:37Speaker 2: But there was another letter. It came from a little.
- 58:41Speaker 3: Girl, a young girl who was a student at the
- 58:45Speaker 3: White Planes High School.
- 58:47Speaker 2: And I looked at that letter.
- 58:48Speaker 3: I'll never forget it, said Senor dear doctor King. I
- 58:53Speaker 3: am a ninth grade student at the White Planes High School.
- 58:59Speaker 3: She said. While it should not matter, I would like
- 59:01Speaker 3: to mention that I'm a white girl. I read in
- 59:05Speaker 3: the paper of your misfortune and of your suffering, and
- 59:11Speaker 3: I read that if you.
- 59:12Speaker 2: Had sneezed, you would have died.
- 59:15Speaker 3: I'm simply writing you to say that I'm so happy
- 59:18Speaker 3: that you didn't sneeze.
- 59:21Speaker 2: And I want to say tonight.
- 59:23Speaker 3: I want to say tonight that I too, am happy
- 59:26Speaker 3: that I didn't sneeze, because that I had sneezed, I
- 59:29Speaker 3: wouldn't have been around here. In nineteen sixty when students
- 59:33Speaker 3: all over the South started sitting in at lunch counties,
- 59:37Speaker 3: and I knew that as a was sitting in, they
- 59:39Speaker 3: were really standing up for the best in the American
- 59:43Speaker 3: dream and taking the whole nation back to those great
- 59:46Speaker 3: wells of democracy which were dug deep by the founding
- 59:49Speaker 3: fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. If
- 59:53Speaker 3: I had sneezed, I wouldn't have been around here in.
- 59:57Speaker 2: Nineteen sixty one when.
- 59:59Speaker 3: We decided to take a ride for freedom an ended
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: segregation in interstate travel. If I had sneezed, I wouldn't
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: have been around here.
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: In nineteen sixty two.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: The Negroes and all been at Georgia decided to straighten
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: that box up.
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: And when other men and women straighten that.
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: Box up, they are going somewhere, because a man can't
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: roger back unless it is bent. If I had sneved,
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: I had sneezed, I wouldn't have been here.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: In nineteen sixty three.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: The black people of Birmingham, Alabama aroused the conscience of
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: this nation and brought into being the Civil Rights Bill.
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: If I had.
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: Sneeze, I wouldn't have had a chance later that year,
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: in August to try to tell America about a dream
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: that I had had. If I had sneezed, I wouldn't
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: have been down in Selma, Alabama to see the great
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: movement there.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: If I had sneezed.
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: I wouldn't have been in Memphis to see a community
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: rather around those.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: Brothers and sisters who are suffering. I'm so happy that I.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: Didn't snee and they were telling them now it doesn't
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: matter now, it really doesn't matter what happens now. I
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: left Atlanta this morning, and as we got started on
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: the plane that was six of us, the pilot said
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: over the public address system, we're sire f for the delay,
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: but we have Dr Martin Luther King on the plane
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: and to be sure that all of the bags were
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: checked and to be sure that nothing would be wrong
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: on the plane. We had to check out everything carefully,
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: and we've had the plane protected and guard it all night.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: And then I got into Memphis and.
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: Some began to say the threats I talk about the
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: threats that were out or what would happen to me
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: from some of our sick white brothers.
- 1:02:13Speaker 8: Well, I don't know what.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: Will happen now.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: We've got some difficult days ahead, but it really doesn't
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: matter with me now, because I've been.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: To the Mountain talk.
- 1:02:25Speaker 8: I don't mind.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: Like anybody, I would like to live.
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: A long life.
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: Longevity has its place, but I'm not concerned about that.
- 1:02:36Speaker 8: Now.
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: I just want to do God's will.
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain,
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: and I've looked over.
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: And I've seen.
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: The promised Land.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: I may not get there with you, but I want
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: you to know the night that we as a people,
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: we'll get to the Promised Land.
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: So I'm happy tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: not very in a man.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: My eyes have seen the glory on the coming of
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: the Lord.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: You're listening Save Hardy Morning Show.
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: Coming up, We're going to play some excerpts from doctor
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: King's I Have a Dream Speech.
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: I'm happy to john with you today in what will
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: in the history of our nation. Five score years ago,
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: a great American in whose symbolic shadow we stand today,
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: signed the immense Patient Proclamation. This momentous decree came as
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: a great beacon light of Pope for millions of Negro
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice.
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: It came as a joyous daybreak to in the long
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: night of their captivity. But one hundred years later, the
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: Negro steal is not free. One hundred years later, the
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: years later, the negro.
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: Lives on a lonely island.
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: Of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: material prosperity. One hundred years later, the negro is still
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: languished in the corners of American society and finds himself
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: in exile.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: In his own land.
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: So we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: In a sense, we've come to our nation's capital to
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: cash a check. When the architects of our Republic wrote
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence,
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: they were signing a promise or a note, to whichever American.
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: Was to fall out.
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: This note was a promise in all men, yes, black men,
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: as well as white men, would be guaranteed the unalienable
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: rights of life, liberty, and.
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: The pursuit of happiness.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promise,
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: or not in so far as her citizens of color
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: given the Negro people a bad check, a check which
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: has come back to mark insufficient funds.
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: But we refuse to believe.
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: That the bank of justice is bakra.
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: Refuse to believe that that are.
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: Insufficient funds in the great faults of opportunity of this nation.
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: So we've come to cash this check, a check.
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: That will give us the pun.
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: Demand, the riches of freedom and the security of justice.
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: We have also come to this hallid spot to remind
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: America of the fierce urgency of now.
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: This is no time.
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: To engage in the luxury of cooling off or to
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time love,
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: time the rise from the dark and desolate valley of
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice.
- 1:07:43Speaker 8: Now is the.
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: Time from quick sense of racial.
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: Injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: Now is the time.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: The reality for all of God's dois It would be
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment.
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: This sweltering summer of the Negro's legitimate discontent will not
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: pass until that is an invigorating ultumn of freedom and
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: equality nineteen sixty three is not an end but a beginning.
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: Those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening.
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: If the nation returns to business as usual, there will
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: has granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwindsor revolt will continue
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day.
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: Of justice emerges.
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: That is something that I must say to my people who.
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: Stand on the warm threshold.
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: Which leads into the palace of justice. In the process
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: of gaining our rightful place, we must not be.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: Guilty of wrong for deeds.
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: Let us not.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: Seek to satisfy our first for freedom by drinking from
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline.
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: We must not allow our creative protests to degenerate into
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: physical violence again and again. We must rise to the
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: majestic heights of meeting physical.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: Force with soul force.
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: The marvelous new militant say which has engulfed the news
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: Grow community must.
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: Not lead us to a distrust of.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: All white people.
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: For many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: presence here today, I've come to realize that that destiny
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: is part of an office.
- 1:10:14Speaker 7: You're listening to the Seve Harvey Morning Show right now, asked,
- 1:10:21Speaker 7: promise we're gonna play some of doctor King's I have
- 1:10:24Speaker 7: a Dream speech, which he delivered on the steps of
- 1:10:26Speaker 7: the Lincoln Memorial back in nineteen sixty three.
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: I have a dream that one day even the state
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: of Mississippi, state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream my
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: little children will one day live in a nation where
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: they will not be judged by the color of their skin,
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: but by the content of that character.
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: I have a dream today.
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama,
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: with its vicious racist, with its governor having his lips
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: tripping with the words of its the position and nullifications,
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: one day, right now in Alabama, little black boars and
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: black girls will be able to join hands with little
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: white bars and white girls as sisters and brothers.
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: I have a dream today.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: I have a dream that one day, every valley shall
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: be exalted. Every hill and mountains shall be made lord.
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: The rough places will be made paint, and the crooked
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: places will be made straight. And the gore of the
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: Lord shall be revealed in all flush shall see it.
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: Together.
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: This is our hope.
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: This is a feath that I go.
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: Back to the South with. With this faith we will
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: be able to hew out of the mountain of despair
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: stone of hope. With this field, we will be able
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: beautiful symphony of brotherhood.
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: With this faith, we.
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: Will be able to work together, to pray together, to
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: for freedom, together, knowing that we will be free one day.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: Thing This will be the day.
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: When all of God's children will be able to sing
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: with new meaning. My country tears a deed, sweet land
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: of liberty, of bi sing Land, where my father's died,
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: land of the pilgrim's pride. From every mountain side, Let
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: freedom ring, And for Americas to be a great nation,
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: this must become true.
- 1:12:51Speaker 5: So let freedom ring.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: From the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire.
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: Let freedom ring from the mighty mountain New York.
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: Let freedom ring from the heightening allegaties of Pennsylvania. Let
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: freedom ring from the snow cap rocks of Colorado. Let
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: freedom ring from the prevation of slopes of California. But
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: not only that. Let freedom ring from stone mountain of Georgia.
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: Let freedom ring.
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: From lookout mountain of Tennessee. Let freedom ring from every
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: hill and mole hill of Mississippi, from every mountainside, Let
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: freedom ring. And when that happens, when we allow freedom ring,
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet,
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: from average state and every city, we will be able
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: to speed up that day when all about children, black
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholic
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: will be able to join hands and sing in the
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: words the Negro Spirit, Last last Bank.

- 1:19:06Speaker 7: Happy Mlkday. We are celebrating doctor Martin Luther King today
- 1:19:11Speaker 7: and according to MSN dot com, more and more people
- 1:19:13Speaker 7: are using this holiday as an opportunity to be of
- 1:19:16Speaker 7: service to others or to attend programs or events honoring
- 1:19:20Speaker 7: doctor King. The question becomes, why is contributing to your
- 1:19:25Speaker 7: community and volunteering so important on this day? So, Steve,
- 1:19:30Speaker 7: your foundation gives back with sponsoring mentoring programs. That's part
- 1:19:34Speaker 7: of your legacy. Now, that is your legacy, now, distributing
- 1:19:37Speaker 7: food to the less fortunate during the holidays, donating to HBCUs.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: Why is service a priority for you? Well?
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: I do it year round.
- 1:19:47Speaker 6: I mean it's part of my calling that was embedded
- 1:19:51Speaker 6: in me by my mother. God blesses you to become
- 1:19:53Speaker 6: a blessing. That's period. That's all it is to it.
- 1:19:57Speaker 6: And I've tried to honor that so you know best
- 1:19:59Speaker 6: I can. So my my contribution is year round. I
- 1:20:03Speaker 6: don't wait to Martin Luther King day to do it.
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: Martin Luther King was one of my favorite people of
- 1:20:08Speaker 6: all time, one of my favorite people of all time
- 1:20:11Speaker 6: because I learned so much from him. His strength was
- 1:20:14Speaker 6: like it was just an impeccable man. I learned a
- 1:20:18Speaker 6: lot from him. So, you know, on this day, you know,
- 1:20:21Speaker 6: with all this going on in this world and all
- 1:20:23Speaker 6: the things that they're trying to push back on for
- 1:20:26Speaker 6: so many things he stood for. I'm just I'm just
- 1:20:29Speaker 6: hoping that we as the people, don't allow that to happen.
- 1:20:33Speaker 6: You can take it back in policy, but that's all
- 1:20:37Speaker 6: you can get. We're gonna get the White House gonna
- 1:20:39Speaker 6: get back right in a minute, anyway. So that's your riot, him.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: Out, Thank you.
- 1:20:44Speaker 7: Coming up, we'll have more of the Steve Harvey Morning
- 1:20:47Speaker 7: Show on this MLK day.

- 1:21:12Speaker 2: Who am I speaking to? Which one? If it says
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: this this Tom.

- 1:21:32Speaker 6: so I want to apologize, but I'll make straight.
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: I'll do it.
- 1:21:36Speaker 6: I'll speak on behalf of a couple of us. But
- 1:21:39Speaker 6: what exactly are we apologizing for?
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: You?
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: Saying?

- 1:26:53Speaker 6: the road. I had to write that special. I had
- 1:26:57Speaker 6: to go write that one. I had to go put
- 1:27:00Speaker 6: this church stuff together. It was probably the easiest hardest
- 1:27:06Speaker 6: set I've ever written. Because I grew up in the church,
- 1:27:09Speaker 6: so I knew a lot of church stuff. I did
- 1:27:12Speaker 6: not think that the church folks was gonna accept it
- 1:27:16Speaker 6: because I was gonna have to talk about I was
- 1:27:18Speaker 6: gonna have to talk about the people that they let
- 1:27:20Speaker 6: read announcements, you know, because the first thing about reading announcements,
- 1:27:27Speaker 6: reading is fundamental. You can't put the ignorant people shouldn't
- 1:27:30Speaker 6: be reading announcements.
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: At the church.
- 1:27:35Speaker 6: It's just a lot of stuff I knew calling the
- 1:27:38Speaker 6: past about every little thing I just I said.
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: And then stuff that I knew, how the choir saying,
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: who in the choir? You know? Stuff? You can't do
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: no more?
- 1:27:52Speaker 10: Right?
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: I do any of them jokes, I'm being troubled.
- 1:27:56Speaker 9: That's so true sing because my grandmother when she saw
- 1:27:59Speaker 9: that spell, so she said, how he know all this
- 1:28:03Speaker 9: is true talking about the church.
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: All of that because I knew church because I grew
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: up in it. He was gonna ask me.
- 1:28:12Speaker 10: I was like, like, you know, like for us comedians,
- 1:28:14Speaker 10: you know, you don't know where that big gonna come from.
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: But do you remember the money segment?
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: Do you remember the moment when you came up with
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: that intro for Christ? Do you know you was at
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: the time and place I was at. I was at
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: the Grand Looks restaurant in La.
- 1:28:28Speaker 6: I remember the definitely center because I used to go
- 1:28:32Speaker 6: from the radio show to the Grand Looks and sit
- 1:28:35Speaker 6: there all day, sometimes three meals there.
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: If we played Domino's.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: All day?
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: Though, could we all day?
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: That's why they shut down?
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: I had a lot going on back then, so and
- 1:28:54Speaker 6: you know, like and I would just sit there and
- 1:28:57Speaker 6: so one day man boom was there. Boom dog. You
- 1:29:02Speaker 6: had a hell of career. Man, what you like the most?

- 1:29:41Speaker 2: It ain't got to be the way you do it.
- 1:29:43Speaker 6: You might not think it's just right, but this is how.
