- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarful Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Good morning, and welcome to Connecting
- 0:17the Dots. I'm Alex. And I'm Morgan. Great to
- 0:19be here, as always. Today is Tuesday, October
- 0:227th, 2025, and we're diving into three stories
- 0:26from the Morningstar that are, well, really shaking
- 0:28things up in tech and finance. Yeah, it really
- 0:31feels like one of those days where you can see
- 0:33the groundwork shifting. We're talking major
- 0:35moves in AI development, a truly massive chip
- 0:38deal, and even Bitcoin getting into long -term
- 0:43savings, foundational stuff. Absolutely, but
- 0:45first let's get a sense of the day. Yeah here
- 0:47in Sacramento. It looks gorgeous sunny high of
- 0:5087 expected nice For folks elsewhere though,
- 0:54maybe keep the umbrella handy There's some heady
- 0:56rain potential flash flooding across the Ohio
- 0:58Valley Central Appalachians and watch out for
- 1:01severe storms popping up over the southern Rockies
- 1:03and high plains later, right? Okay turning to
- 1:05the markets. How did things look at the close
- 1:07yesterday? So the Dow took a small dip down about
- 1:10point one seven percent closing just shy of forty
- 1:13six thousand seven hundred Still up for the week
- 1:15though, about 0 .84%. Okay, pretty stable. And
- 1:18the S &P? S &P 500 actually edged up a tiny bit,
- 1:220 .10%. Closed at 6 ,740. Weekly gain is a bit
- 1:27better there, over 1%. Standard stuff mostly,
- 1:30but Bitcoin. Yeah, Bitcoin. Daily movement was
- 1:32pretty flat Monday, just up 0 .08%, closing around
- 1:35124 ,829. But the weekly trend. Wow. Exactly.
- 1:40Since last Tuesday, September 30th, it's jumped
- 1:43almost nine and a half percent. That's quite
- 1:45a climb. That kind of volatility, but upward
- 1:48this time, really underscores why people are
- 1:50scrambling to figure out how this fits into more
- 1:53traditional financial planning, which actually
- 1:55tees up our third story quite nicely. It really
- 1:57does. But hang on. Before we get into the big
- 1:59tech news, let's thank our sponsor, Pins and
- 2:02Aces. Ah, yes, Pins and Aces. Great stuff. They're
- 2:05the premium golf apparel and accessory store.
- 2:07If you need top notch gear that looks sharp and
- 2:09performs well on the course, definitely check
- 2:11them out. And they've got a great deal for our
- 2:13listeners. Use the promo code SNARFUL. That's
- 2:15S -N -A -R -F -U -L at checkout. And you'll get
- 2:1921 % off your entire purchase. Pretty sweet deal.
- 2:22Fantastic. Find them online at pinsandaces .com.
- 2:25Remember, that's pinsandicequest .com. Alright,
- 2:29let's tackle these Morningstar headlines. First
- 2:31up, OpenAI's Dev Day. They dropped something
- 2:35called Agent Kit, and everyone's saying it's
- 2:37like Canva, but for building AI agents. That
- 2:40Canva comparison is... It's pretty spot -on,
- 2:44actually. It instantly tells you the goal here
- 2:45is accessibility, right? Making it easy. Sam
- 2:48Altman basically announced it as this toolkit
- 2:50designed to slash the friction, make it way faster
- 2:54to build and deploy these multi -step AI agents,
- 2:57taking it from a complex coding project to something
- 3:00more visual. So less prototype, more production.
- 3:03Exactly. They want regular developers, maybe
- 3:05even sharp business analysts, not just AI PhDs,
- 3:08to be able to build these things. And the core
- 3:10is this agent builder tool. the visual part.
- 3:13That's the heart of it. Think flowcharts, connecting
- 3:15boxes, you visually map out the logic, the steps
- 3:18for the agent's task. It's a big shift away from
- 3:20just pure code. Okay, that makes sense, but it's
- 3:22more than just the builder, right? Oh yeah, it's
- 3:24a whole suite. There's ChatKit, that's an embeddable
- 3:26chat interface. So imagine a company wants AI
- 3:30chat in their own app. They can drop ChatKit
- 3:33in, keep their own branding, their own look and
- 3:35feel, while ChatKit handles all the... The tricky
- 3:39backend stuff for the chat experience. Okay.
- 3:43And what about making sure these agents actually
- 3:45work reliably? That seems like a big hurdle for
- 3:47businesses. That's where evils for agents comes
- 3:49in. This is crucial for optimization. You need
- 3:52ways to measure if the agent is doing its job
- 3:54correctly, especially with multiple steps. So
- 3:57quality control baked in. Pretty much it gives
- 3:59you tools like step by step tracing to see where
- 4:02things went wrong and even automated prompt tuning
- 4:05to help the agent get better overtime like the
- 4:07AI helps debug itself okay that's pretty sophisticated
- 4:10and then there's the connector registry this
- 4:12lets you securely hook up these agents to your
- 4:15internal databases or. third party apps like
- 4:18Dropbox, Google Drive, SharePoint. Ah, so they
- 4:21can actually do things with existing systems.
- 4:23Exactly. And there's an admin control panel for
- 4:25governance, security, all that enterprise stuff.
- 4:28And the speed claims are kind of nuts. They built
- 4:30a whole workflow and two agents live on stage.
- 4:33In under eight minutes, yeah. And they highlighted
- 4:35early adopters like Ramp. Right. Ramp said something
- 4:38that took them months before. Now it takes just
- 4:40a couple of hours using Agent Builder. That's
- 4:42a massive speed up. LY Corporation reported similar
- 4:45gains. Wow. And this is all launching while chat
- 4:48GPT usage is still soaring, right? Something
- 4:50like 800 million weekly active users. Yeah, they
- 4:53have this enormous existing user base to potentially
- 4:57leverage or upsell. Making agents easier to build
- 5:01just pours fuel on that fire. It means companies
- 5:03are suddenly going to need a lot more compute
- 5:05power. Which couldn't be a better segue to story
- 5:08number two. Yeah. If agent kit unlocks the demand.
- 5:10Then this next story is about the staggering
- 5:12supply needed to meet it. This AMD and OpenAI
- 5:16deal. It's huge. Huge. Doesn't even quite cover
- 5:19it, does it? A multi -year chip supply agreement.
- 5:21Potentially tens of billions in revenue for AMD.
- 5:24Tens of billions. And the scale. AMD is supplying
- 5:27OpenAI with six gigawatts of compute capacity.
- 5:30Six gigawatts. Okay, put that in perspective.
- 5:33Six gigawatts. Think about the Hoover Dam. This
- 5:37deal is for compute power equivalent to roughly
- 5:40three Hoover Dams. It could power maybe four
- 5:42and a half million homes. It's an immense amount
- 5:45of power dedicated just to AI. Wow. And OpenAI
- 5:48needs this. Because of that vision, Sam Altman
- 5:52has talked about needing something like 250 gigawatts
- 5:54of compute by 2033. This 6GW deal is a major
- 5:58down payment on that future. And the first delivery
- 6:01is relatively soon. Second half of 2026, that's
- 6:04when they'll get the first gigawatt featuring
- 6:06AMD's next -gen instinct MI450 GPUs. And AMD
- 6:10is making some bold claims about those chips,
- 6:13right? Saying they'll beat Nvidia's comparable
- 6:14ones. They are. They're directly targeting Nvidia's
- 6:17upcoming Rubin CPX. This isn't just AMD fulfilling
- 6:20an order, it's them stepping up saying, we can
- 6:23compete at the highest level. It's a massive
- 6:25vote of confidence from OpenAI and AMD's tech.
- 6:28But the deal structure. This is where it gets
- 6:30really interesting, isn't it? The stock warrant.
- 6:32Exactly. This is the connecting the dots part
- 6:34financially. OpenAI isn't just a customer here.
- 6:37They got a warrant, basically, the option to
- 6:39buy up to 160 million shares of AMD stock. Which
- 6:42could be like a 10 % stake in AMD. Potentially,
- 6:45yeah. And the purchase price is just one cent
- 6:47per share. A penny. For potentially 10 % of AMD.
- 6:52How does that work? Well, it's not free money.
- 6:54The warrant vests, meaning OpenAI earns the right
- 6:57to buy those shares based on hitting certain
- 6:59volume milestones for chip purchases. And it's
- 7:02also tied to AMD's stock price hitting targets
- 7:04escalating all the way up to $600 per share.
- 7:07OK, so it's deeply tied to AMD's success and
- 7:09OpenAI buying a lot of chips. Precisely. The
- 7:12market loved it, obviously. AMD shares jumped
- 7:15over 34 % on Monday, added, what, $80 billion
- 7:18to their market cap almost overnight? So what
- 7:21here is its validation for AMD? Big time. Puts
- 7:25them squarely against Nvidia. Absolutely. But
- 7:27more than that, think about the relationship.
- 7:29OpenAI is Nvidia's customer. With AMD, thanks
- 7:32to this warrant, they could become a major shareholder
- 7:35with potential influence. Influence over AMD's
- 7:37strategy, maybe? Potentially. It changes the
- 7:39dynamic completely. It suggests a new model,
- 7:42maybe, for how these massive AI labs secure the
- 7:44absolutely critical compute they need by becoming
- 7:47strategic partners, not just clients. Given the
- 7:49voracious appetite for compute, as you said,
- 7:51it makes sense. They're locking in supply and
- 7:53potential upside. Right. And this is just one
- 7:55deal. Remember, Nvidia's supplying 10 GW2. There
- 7:59are deals with Broadcom, Samsung, SK Hynex. It's
- 8:03an arms race for compute power. Fascinating stuff.
- 8:06Yeah. It really does feel like the infrastructure
- 8:08of the future is being built like right now.
- 8:11And funded in new ways. OK, let's shift gears
- 8:13completely from massive corporate infrastructure
- 8:16to personal finance and long term savings. Our
- 8:20third story is about Bitcoin making inroads into
- 8:23life insurance. regulated life insurance. Yeah,
- 8:28this one definitely turned some heads. We're
- 8:29talking about a company called Meanwhile. They're
- 8:31billed as the world's first regulated Bitcoin
- 8:34denominated life insurance company. Regulated
- 8:37where? By the Bermuda Monetary Authority. And
- 8:39they just raised another $82 million in capital.
- 8:42That brings their total funding just this year
- 8:44to $122 million. Yeah, decent chunk of change.
- 8:47But who's investing? That seems key here. It
- 8:49is key, because it's a mix. You've got crypto
- 8:52-native VCs, the ones you'd expect, like Bain
- 8:54Capital, crypto, Han Ventures, but co -leading
- 8:56the round? and participating, you have major
- 9:00traditional finance players. Apollo, a huge asset
- 9:03manager. Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures,
- 9:06the VC arm of a giant insurance company. Wait,
- 9:10Apollo and Northwestern Mutual are backing Bitcoin
- 9:12life insurance. That's the headline signal here.
- 9:15It suggests serious players in traditional finance,
- 9:18TradFi, as they say, are getting comfortable
- 9:20with Bitcoin, not just as a speculative asset,
- 9:23but as like a foundational layer for real financial
- 9:26products. It's a big validation step. Okay, so
- 9:28how does it actually work? If I buy a policy
- 9:31from Meanwhile? Everything is in Bitcoin. Your
- 9:34premiums are paid in BTC, the policy's cash value
- 9:37grows in BTC, and any eventual payout, the claim
- 9:40is made in BTC. Huh. So the whole product lives
- 9:42on the Bitcoin standard essentially. Exactly.
- 9:44They offer life insurance, annuities, savings
- 9:46products, all BTC denominated. What's the pitch?
- 9:49Why do this in Bitcoin instead of dollars? The
- 9:52core value proposition is protection against
- 9:54inflation and traditional currency risk. By linking
- 9:58the policy to a scarce asset like Bitcoin, the
- 10:01idea is it holds its value better over the long
- 10:04term, unlike fiat currencies that tend to inflate
- 10:06away. Okay, but Bitcoin's volatile, right? How
- 10:09does an insurance company handle that risk over
- 10:11decades? Life insurance is a long -term game.
- 10:14Great question. That's the operational side.
- 10:17Meanwhile, doesn't just H .O. deal the Bitcoin?
- 10:20They generate yield. They lend out the BTC, conservatively,
- 10:25to large regulated financial institutions. Ah,
- 10:28so they're earning interest on the Bitcoin holdings.
- 10:30Correct. This makes them one of the world's biggest
- 10:32long -duration BTC lenders. That yield helps
- 10:35them manage the business, cover potential claims,
- 10:38and smooth out some of that volatility risk.
- 10:40It turns Bitcoin from just digital gold into
- 10:43something that can generate income, kind of like
- 10:45a bond. Okay, that makes more sense. They're
- 10:47using institutional lending to make it work.
- 10:49Right. And it's significant because the insurance
- 10:51sector is massive, like 3 % of global GDP. Seeing
- 10:55Bitcoin embedded here in a regulated way backed
- 10:58by TradFi money, it's a big step towards integrating
- 11:01BTC into the core global capital markets, moving
- 11:05way beyond just trading it. And is there demand?
- 11:08Are people actually buying this? Apparently so.
- 11:10Meanwhile, reported over 200 % growth in their
- 11:13Bitcoin assets under management already, it suggests
- 11:15people are looking for these kinds of potentially
- 11:18inflation -resistant long -term savings vehicles.
- 11:21Interesting. Bitcoin is a building block for
- 11:23long -term wealth preservation, not just speculation.
- 11:26Backed by the big guys now, too. That's the shift.
- 11:29All right. Powerful stuff across the board today.
- 11:31Before we recap, let's quickly thank our second
- 11:33sponsor, Scony. Ah, Scony. Premium golf shoes.
- 11:36Yep. If you want shoes that feel great, perform
- 11:39incredibly well, and frankly just look amazing
- 11:41out on links, you really need to check out Scony.
- 11:43And just like pins and aces, there's a deal for
- 11:45you. Use that same promo code SNARFL, S -N -A
- 11:49-R -F -E -U -UP -STAY -SHIELD at checkout. And
- 11:51you'll snag 15 % off your entire purchase at
- 11:53SCONI. Find them at scony .com. That's sony .com.
- 11:58Great shoes. Great deal. OK, so let's quickly
- 12:01wrap the big takeaways from the morning start
- 12:02today. First, open AI's agent kit. Basically,
- 12:06they just made building sophisticated AI agents
- 12:09way faster and easier. Think Canva for AI, which
- 12:13is going to push AI deeper into businesses everywhere.
- 12:16Second, that monster AMD OpenAI chip deal. It's
- 12:20not just about the billions or the gigawatts,
- 12:22it's validation for AMD against Nvidia. And it
- 12:26shows a new model where AI labs might take equity
- 12:29stakes to secure that vital compute power. Yeah,
- 12:31reshaping the supply chain relationship. And
- 12:33third, Bitcoin goes mainstream. Well, more mainstream.
- 12:37Regulated Bitcoin life insurance, backed by giants
- 12:40like Apollo and Northwestern Mutual, showing
- 12:42BTC moving into long -term wealth preservation,
- 12:45not just quick trades. Right. So the big picture
- 12:47connecting these dots, technology isn't just
- 12:49speeding things up. It feels like it's fundamentally
- 12:51restructuring markets. How companies build AI,
- 12:53how they secure the power for it, and even how
- 12:55individuals might save for the long term using
- 12:57new kinds of assets. It's a lot changing. very
- 13:00fast. Definitely keeps things interesting. We're
- 13:02here to help at Snarful, so reach out on our
