Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Direct from Hollywood with Ryan Seacrest.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Have you ever wondered what a gold record sounds like.
- 0:05Speaker 2: I'm not talking about any album that sells more than
- 0:07Speaker 2: five hundred thousand copies. I mean the actual gold record,
- 0:10Speaker 2: the plaque that sent to an artist to commemorate the achievement,
- 0:13Speaker 2: that looks exactly like a real vinyl twelve inch, except
- 0:16Speaker 2: it's plated gold. Well, you might assume it's a special
- 0:18Speaker 2: copy of the album that hit the milestone, but according
- 0:20Speaker 2: to King ad Rock at the Beastie Boys, you're wrong,
- 0:23Speaker 2: he tells the Conan Needs a Friend podcast. We were
- 0:25Speaker 2: at our studio in California a long time ago. We
- 0:28Speaker 2: had a gold record on the wall, our record Paul's boutique.
- 0:31Speaker 2: So I was looking at it and I could see
- 0:32Speaker 2: it had our label sticker listing nine songs on the side,
- 0:35Speaker 2: but the actual gold record only had four songs. So
- 0:38Speaker 2: we broke the glass and put the record on and
- 0:40Speaker 2: the music with somebody playing piano versions of Barry Manilow.
- 0:44Speaker 2: The Beastie Boys add they don't know if this is
- 0:47Speaker 2: the case with every gold record, but at least with
- 0:49Speaker 2: their Plackett
- 0:49Speaker 1: Was That's direct from Hollywood
