- 1:11Speaker 1: when I launched this show in seventeen, he came on
- 1:14Speaker 1: my show and he talked about why you know, just
- 1:18Speaker 1: first of all, he's articulate and he can talk about anything.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Because that's why he's one of the most sought out
- 1:23Speaker 1: the speakers out there in America to day. He is
- 1:25Speaker 1: the author of sixteen books, eight of them New York
- 1:28Speaker 1: Times bestsellers. He is the creator of the shred brands

- 1:41Speaker 1: and is currently the medical cars contributor and co host
- 1:45Speaker 1: of the nationally syndicated television show The Rachel Ray Show.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Please welcome back to Money Making Conversation, Dr I N. K. Smith. Hey, reson,
- 1:55Speaker 1: gonna be back man. Well, I know you're busy, so
- 1:58Speaker 1: just give a quick synopsis away, Yeah, what you're doing
- 2:00Speaker 1: before I really get into the show. Yeah, Well, things
- 2:03Speaker 1: have been busy as you As you said, I've been
- 2:05Speaker 1: doing a lot of jeez. I published another novel since
- 2:09Speaker 1: we last talk. It's a about a secret society up
- 2:12Speaker 1: at Harvard. I was in one of Harvard's secret societies
- 2:15Speaker 1: called Final Clubs, and so the book is called The
- 2:17Speaker 1: Ancient Nine and it's about It's a fiction, but it's
- 2:20Speaker 1: based on my experiences in one of these secret societies.
- 2:23Speaker 1: So that came out. Um. And then I just recently
- 2:26Speaker 1: published my new uh nonfiction health book uh called Clean
- 2:31Speaker 1: and Lean uh thirty Days, thirty Foods and New You. Uh.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And so that's out in stores right now, just dropped. Uh.
- 2:38Speaker 1: So we're excited about that. And lastly, I came out
- 2:41Speaker 1: with my app. Finally people have been asking me to
- 2:43Speaker 1: happen and uh, so I finally have dr Ian's World. Uh.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And it's an app that gives you daily meal plans,
- 2:52Speaker 1: exercise videos, your personal coaches all to your phone and
- 2:55Speaker 1: people can download that at dr Ian's World dot com.
- 3:00Speaker 1: What's gonna happen is our send us or some um
- 3:03Speaker 1: some artwork and that link and we're putting in a
- 3:06Speaker 1: monthly newsletter that goes out to turing in thirty thousand
- 3:09Speaker 1: fan club members and giving them an option to download
- 3:12Speaker 1: that app. Because that's something that because your platform is
- 3:14Speaker 1: so strong, you guys, you have sixteen books that that
- 3:17Speaker 1: that that they can click on and buy or get
- 3:20Speaker 1: some some some information that's been important. And I I know,
- 3:24Speaker 1: or I gotta bring up a book that has played
- 3:26Speaker 1: an important role in my life personally. Was the book
- 3:29Speaker 1: previous to this is a Blast to Sugar Out, which
- 3:32Speaker 1: became an instant New York Times best seller, helpening the
- 3:35Speaker 1: hundreds of thousands of people reduced bad sugars from their diet,
- 3:38Speaker 1: lose weight, blood, lower blood sugar levels, and cut the
- 3:42Speaker 1: cravings of My mom lives in Houston, Texas. And then, uh,
- 3:46Speaker 1: you know, Dr Solo, she had lose weight because guess what,
- 3:48Speaker 1: Like many many African American senior citizens, they have bad
- 3:53Speaker 1: diet habits. And our reason. I felt that this was
- 3:56Speaker 1: relatable because that was one of the more personal books
- 3:58Speaker 1: that you have written about it. Uh, and you that
- 4:01Speaker 1: I've read, I've read a lot of your books that
- 4:03Speaker 1: you're talking about your brother leave you talk about your
- 4:06Speaker 1: grandmother in that book as well. Correct, Absolutely, my grandmother
- 4:09Speaker 1: had diabetes, two types of diabetes, and and that and
- 4:12Speaker 1: I felt when I read that book that it could
- 4:15Speaker 1: be relatable to my mom, and it had it had recipes,
- 4:18Speaker 1: which is the corner stone of your book. You tell
- 4:20Speaker 1: us how to eat, You tell us what to eat
- 4:23Speaker 1: and how to do it on a daily basis. And
- 4:25Speaker 1: so I gave that book to her, and guess what,
- 4:27Speaker 1: I'm a happy son because so it's a Blast to
- 4:33Speaker 1: Sugar Out. We're gonna talk about clean and lean. But
- 4:35Speaker 1: I let go let everybody know he's still making money.
- 4:38Speaker 1: If you go buy Blast to Sugar Out, he's gonna
- 4:40Speaker 1: be happy too. But I gotta let you know that
- 4:43Speaker 1: I just don't bring him on the show because he's
- 4:44Speaker 1: a good friend of mine and uh and he's a
- 4:47Speaker 1: good guest. I bring him on the show because of
- 4:49Speaker 1: those those other things, but also the fact that I
- 4:52Speaker 1: trust what he's said enough to allow my mom to
- 4:56Speaker 1: be to be a person who should use his seas, uh,
- 5:01Speaker 1: to use his his thought process, to use his menus.
- 5:05Speaker 1: And guess what, I'm happy. And that's the type of
- 5:07Speaker 1: what you do. Thank you know, And I want you
- 5:10Speaker 1: to say that I told you before, if you don't
- 5:12Speaker 1: mind me bringing that up, because that's my thank you
- 5:13Speaker 1: to you and my also my my, my, my confirmation
- 5:17Speaker 1: to my fans and my fans and my listeners that
- 5:20Speaker 1: you're not just a regular guest to me. Dr. E. N. K.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Smith is a person who whose resume speaks for itself,
- 5:27Speaker 1: whose abilities to uh change lives over the past twenty
- 5:31Speaker 1: years speaks for itself. And so I asked that to
- 5:34Speaker 1: go what drives that? Because you know what, what what?
- 5:38Speaker 1: Because you're you're almost writing a book a year. Okay,
- 5:42Speaker 1: what drives you? Well? First of all, what drives me
- 5:44Speaker 1: is that I love what I do. And what I
- 5:46Speaker 1: do doesn't even feel like work for me. It feels
- 5:49Speaker 1: like passion. It's like me pursuing my dream. Every single
- 5:52Speaker 1: day I get up and I'm writing and creating. I
- 5:55Speaker 1: like to create, whether it's in the health space, whether
- 5:58Speaker 1: it's my fiction, my not levels, whether it's creating business opportunities.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I just like to create. Um and um. This just
- 6:06Speaker 1: you know drives me every day. I also I'm driven
- 6:09Speaker 1: by my family. I want to provide for my family
- 6:11Speaker 1: and give my children uh the opportunities that I did
- 6:15Speaker 1: not have as a child. Because I always believe that transgenerationally,
- 6:19Speaker 1: we're supposed to leave the world in a better place
- 6:23Speaker 1: than how we got it. We're supposed to give our
- 6:25Speaker 1: younger kids, more opportunities. So that drives me. And the
- 6:28Speaker 1: other thing is, I just really believe that life is
- 6:31Speaker 1: very short, and sometimes we get lost thinking about the
- 6:35Speaker 1: here and now and we don't have a landscape view
- 6:38Speaker 1: of life. And my landscape view is always in front
- 6:40Speaker 1: of me, and I always say I want to do
- 6:43Speaker 1: the most I can, the best I can, and in
- 6:45Speaker 1: the most honest way I can, because I want to
- 6:48Speaker 1: leave a legacy that will outlive me, and so helping
- 6:51Speaker 1: people and empowering people and changing their lives. When I
- 6:55Speaker 1: when people send me messages rashan Uh through Instagram or
- 7:00Speaker 1: Facebook and they say, You've changed my life. I'm no
- 7:03Speaker 1: longer on medications, my blood pressure is down, my doctor's excited.
- 7:06Speaker 1: That really fuels me. Tell me about that app, then,
- 7:09Speaker 1: because I'm as sure you're gonna have some of those
- 7:10Speaker 1: testimonies on your app. Correct. Yeah, so dr Ian's World
- 7:15Speaker 1: once again. You can download it at dr Ian's World
- 7:18Speaker 1: dot com. But it's an app that has daily meal
- 7:21Speaker 1: plans that populate your calendar. It has exercise videos you
- 7:25Speaker 1: can follow along, It gives you recipes, it gives you
- 7:29Speaker 1: a message board, and you have a coach seven three
- 7:32Speaker 1: six that works with you within the app. So it's
- 7:35Speaker 1: really all that you need. Some people have stopped, you know,
- 7:39Speaker 1: even you know, having a personal trainer or a gym membership,
- 7:42Speaker 1: because we give you all you can work out right
- 7:44Speaker 1: in your home. And that's the design of the app.
- 7:46Speaker 1: And so I want to encourage people, Hey, at the
- 7:49Speaker 1: very least, give it a try. Has a seven day
- 7:51Speaker 1: free trial. If you decide you want to go beyond
- 7:54Speaker 1: the seven days, use the promo code cleaner C L
- 7:58Speaker 1: E A N E R all caps that will give
- 8:01Speaker 1: you a discount. But more importantly, this app is like
- 8:05Speaker 1: the culmination of all of my work. It really makes
- 8:08Speaker 1: it available to people seven three sixty five on your phone,
- 8:11Speaker 1: your computer, your iPad, you go on vacation, it doesn't matter.
- 8:14Speaker 1: You don't have to take the book with you because
- 8:16Speaker 1: you have your phone, and your phone will say these
- 8:19Speaker 1: are your meals today, this is your exercise of today.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So it's really all encompassing. Yeah, I hope you have
- 8:24Speaker 1: a don't give up button because you're such a good
- 8:26Speaker 1: motivator and anybody just just should be just you and
- 8:29Speaker 1: I I'm serious about that. And it should have like
- 8:32Speaker 1: about ten different moments and every time they press that button,
- 8:36Speaker 1: it's not the same don't give up moment, you know.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I like that. By the way, that's a good idea.
- 8:39Speaker 1: We could add that. Actually, do you feel like if
- 8:43Speaker 1: someone feels like they really are getting ready to fall
- 8:46Speaker 1: off and they need something, they can push that button
- 8:48Speaker 1: and I can pop up and say something to them.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I love that, actually, and and do it like my
- 8:53Speaker 1: ten and don't make it like when they press it,
- 8:55Speaker 1: it's not the same one. Pop up and go to
- 8:57Speaker 1: the next one and they go and when they hit eight,
- 8:59Speaker 1: you go for real though, for I love. As soon
- 9:06Speaker 1: as we get off the phone, I'm we're gonna continue
- 9:11Speaker 1: gonna talk about the book back, but I want to
- 9:13Speaker 1: continue to talk about that app Clean and Lean because
- 9:16Speaker 1: he's such an inspiration for me because he does exactly
- 9:19Speaker 1: what he says is gonna do. He's gonna add that
- 9:21Speaker 1: to this app. We'll be racked with more, Uh, Doctor
- 9:23Speaker 1: I N. K. Smith and Clean and Lean thirty Days,
- 9:27Speaker 1: thirty foods. Okay, just rae Sean McDonald coming back. I'm
- 9:32Speaker 1: talking to you with my good friend Dr ian K. Smith.
- 9:34Speaker 1: The first break we talked about, I had to thank
- 9:36Speaker 1: you for you know, UH send a die plan for
- 9:39Speaker 1: my mom. Now here's a new book I'll called Cleaning
- 9:41Speaker 1: lan thirty days, thirty foods, a new you. I like that.
- 9:46Speaker 1: People say, what's different about Clean and Lean? Listen. Clean
- 9:49Speaker 1: and Lean is a third day program. It's we're clean
- 9:52Speaker 1: eating meets intermittent fasting. So clean eating by itself is
- 9:57Speaker 1: a great way to lose weight and be healthy. Intermitt
- 10:00Speaker 1: fasting by itself is a great way to lose weight
- 10:02Speaker 1: and be healthy. But what I did was I combine
- 10:05Speaker 1: the two, so it's like one plus one actually equals three.
- 10:08Speaker 1: And so this program is great because and by the way,
- 10:11Speaker 1: people have tested already, the average weight loss in just
- 10:14Speaker 1: thirty days is fifteen pounds. In fact, and our Facebook
- 10:19Speaker 1: group and for those who are listening, join our Facebook group,
- 10:21Speaker 1: it's called Cleaner, Get Leaner, Cleaner, Get Leaner. Someone posted
- 10:26Speaker 1: that in nine days she was down nine pounds on
- 10:29Speaker 1: Clean and Lean. I mean, it's that kind of program.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And let me just explain to people why real fast,
- 10:34Speaker 1: clean eating. You're eating less processed foods, all those things
- 10:37Speaker 1: that are synthetic, all those chemicals, all those things that
- 10:40Speaker 1: can disrupt your hormonal system. People think that they're eating
- 10:43Speaker 1: well because they're eating low calories, they're eating low fats.
- 10:47Speaker 1: But what they don't realize is that the food still
- 10:49Speaker 1: are not clean. They're full of processed jumps. And so
- 10:52Speaker 1: when you remove those processed ingredients, you allow your hormones
- 10:55Speaker 1: to work work correctly, then you lose weight. Intermittent fasting
- 10:59Speaker 1: says that you have feeding windows, so you choose a window.
- 11:03Speaker 1: In the book helps you. You choose a window when
- 11:05Speaker 1: you're going to feed. Let's say, for example, that I
- 11:08Speaker 1: decide that my feeding window for the day starts at
- 11:11Speaker 1: ten am. Then it goes to eight o'clock at night,
- 11:14Speaker 1: So from ten to eight is my feeding window. Then
- 11:17Speaker 1: my fasting window is from eight at night to ten
- 11:21Speaker 1: in the morning. So it's intermittent fasting. You eat and
- 11:25Speaker 1: you fast, You eat and you fast. Studies have shown
- 11:27Speaker 1: that you can reduce your belly of fat. Doing this,
- 11:30Speaker 1: you lose weight, you reduce your inflammation, you reduce your
- 11:33Speaker 1: asthmatic symptoms um that come uh with with with issues
- 11:38Speaker 1: of asthma. So you combine clean eating with intermittent fasting,
- 11:42Speaker 1: and that's why people are seeing such incredible results. You know,
- 11:45Speaker 1: when you let's let's just explain the word fasting you
- 11:48Speaker 1: know when you were fast that the word denial, denial.
- 11:51Speaker 1: You're something, you're something that this taste food. So you
- 11:55Speaker 1: say between a PM and ten am, that's the fasting period.
- 11:59Speaker 1: What exactly is going on? You're drinking water or liquids?
- 12:03Speaker 1: What is that? So you're allowed to have water, you're
- 12:06Speaker 1: allowed to have herbal tea, and you're allowed to have
- 12:09Speaker 1: a cup of black coffee. You don't want to add
- 12:11Speaker 1: anything to it. And let me explain to you why.
- 12:13Speaker 1: The reason why the fast period works is because your
- 12:18Speaker 1: body needs energy at all times of the day, whether
- 12:21Speaker 1: you're walking, sitting, or sleeping. Your body needs energy. And
- 12:24Speaker 1: so you feed your body energy by the foods that
- 12:27Speaker 1: you eat. So you eat two thousand calories. The body
- 12:30Speaker 1: takes those two thousand calories, converts it to energy and
- 12:33Speaker 1: uses it to perform function sitting, up, standing, talking, whatever. Now,
- 12:37Speaker 1: if you are not eating, your body still needs energy
- 12:41Speaker 1: or shine, and so your body has to get it
- 12:43Speaker 1: from somewhere. What your body does is it goes into
- 12:46Speaker 1: your fat and it breaks down your fat because fat
- 12:50Speaker 1: is the storage form of energy. And so your body
- 12:53Speaker 1: goes into your fat, breaks down the fat and uses
- 12:56Speaker 1: that as energy and That's why intermittent fasting is is
- 13:00Speaker 1: is very uh effective at weight loss and fat reduction
- 13:03Speaker 1: because you are not eating and so your body needs
- 13:07Speaker 1: energy and you drive it into those fat stores. It's
- 13:09Speaker 1: the same thing. For example, animals who hibernate over the winter,
- 13:13Speaker 1: they do the same thing. They gorge and eat and
- 13:16Speaker 1: eat and eat, and then long periods of time when
- 13:18Speaker 1: they know they're not going to get food, they've now
- 13:21Speaker 1: built up all these energy stores and they're fat, and
- 13:23Speaker 1: they tear away at the fat over the period of
- 13:26Speaker 1: time that they're fasting. I love this dude because he
- 13:30Speaker 1: developed he you know, each one of your books has
- 13:33Speaker 1: a unique point of view. And I was having this conversation,
- 13:37Speaker 1: just a casual conversation with some friends who're shooting a
- 13:39Speaker 1: commercial and one of Robbins last week, and I was
- 13:41Speaker 1: talking about your food. Your body gonna find the food,
- 13:44Speaker 1: absolutely your body. You used to stop all that. Now
- 13:47Speaker 1: you know, body will find food, okay, and there gonna
- 13:50Speaker 1: find the food in the fat. And so if you,
- 13:52Speaker 1: if you control your eating habits, that's what you're talking about,
- 13:55Speaker 1: control your ebag. But you you're helping us out. You're
- 13:57Speaker 1: giving us a window because a lot of people don't
- 13:59Speaker 1: know that window. So you said between two am a
- 14:01Speaker 1: p m. Eat, Now, how should they eat? Are they
- 14:04Speaker 1: like every four hours? Every two hours? How should yes?
- 14:09Speaker 1: Good questions. So let me just say everyone can have
- 14:12Speaker 1: a different clock. I just gave you. Ten to eight
- 14:14Speaker 1: was mine. But you can choose to have a sixteen
- 14:18Speaker 1: hour feeding window and an eight hour fasting window adds
- 14:21Speaker 1: to twenty four. Or you can choose fourteen feeding, ten fasting,
- 14:25Speaker 1: or twelve and twelve. You the book gives you all
- 14:28Speaker 1: these different options because we all operate differently. Some of us,
- 14:31Speaker 1: you know, it may be too hard for something, So
- 14:33Speaker 1: that's why it's very customizable. Now what happens is, here's
- 14:36Speaker 1: the big mistake. People make. People think that because they're
- 14:40Speaker 1: going to be fasting that they actually don't have to
- 14:43Speaker 1: pay attention to what they're eating during the feeding period.
- 14:46Speaker 1: And that is wrong. You cannot just eat anything during
- 14:50Speaker 1: the feeding period, or eat as many calories as you
- 14:52Speaker 1: want to just because you have the fasting period coming up. No,
- 14:55Speaker 1: you still have to be mindful. We don't count calories
- 14:58Speaker 1: in my new book, Clean and Lean. Instead, what I
- 15:00Speaker 1: do is I give you your meal plan. I give
- 15:02Speaker 1: you all these different options. And you should see the
- 15:05Speaker 1: list of the foods that you can have. I mean,
- 15:06Speaker 1: it's it's a thirty thirty number lists everything from avocados, beef,
- 15:11Speaker 1: organic or a er grass that beef, brown rice, cheese, chicken, chickpeas, duck, um, bacon, turkey, bacon, lemons, kale.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I mean, it's a thirty food list of all kinds
- 15:23Speaker 1: of foods. So you eat those foods inside of your
- 15:26Speaker 1: feeding window. But you eat three to four meals a day.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Typically people will have three meals and snacks and that's all.
- 15:33Speaker 1: That's the way you do it. You eat those meals,
- 15:35Speaker 1: eat them during your feeding window, do your fasting. Only
- 15:38Speaker 1: have coffee, tea, herbal tea or water during fasting. And
- 15:42Speaker 1: I'm telling you the way up to fifteen pounds and
- 15:45Speaker 1: dirty days. I'm telling it's crazy. It's that he knows
- 15:48Speaker 1: I'm the worst eater. He does like he laughed at me.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I'm the guy with crispy cream app you know, and
- 15:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna hear something avocado toast. He converted me over that, kale.
- 16:00Speaker 1: He's converted me over there. So I'm just telling you
- 16:03Speaker 1: that I'm I'm a fan. I'm a believer, and my
- 16:07Speaker 1: weight is tied to the teachings that he's done to
- 16:10Speaker 1: me over the years. Like I said, IVE been knowing
- 16:12Speaker 1: him two thousand and seven, okay, And the one thing
- 16:15Speaker 1: I've been blessed in this relationship, he's always been consistent
- 16:18Speaker 1: and his book always have a point of view. So
- 16:20Speaker 1: a lot of people will flip the script and just
- 16:22Speaker 1: trying to change the words, but he has a direct
- 16:25Speaker 1: point of view. Why this particular die Because what he's
- 16:27Speaker 1: learned is that all that's aren't made for everybody. That's right,
- 16:32Speaker 1: That's exactly right. People say to me, why do you
- 16:34Speaker 1: have seventeen books. I have seventeen books because no one
- 16:38Speaker 1: program is gonna work for everyone. And if I hear
- 16:42Speaker 1: something new or new research comes out, I try to
- 16:45Speaker 1: harness that scientific research. I try to translate it for
- 16:48Speaker 1: the average person, because I write my books for the
- 16:50Speaker 1: average person so that you have the best knowledge that's
