- 2:11Speaker 1: on the c W Black Lightning. Alan Rosen, third generation
- 2:14Speaker 1: owner of the Junior's restaurant chain, bast my man. We
- 2:18Speaker 1: will be talking some food because I go out. I
- 2:21Speaker 1: visited that restaurant a lot when I lived in New York.
- 2:24Speaker 1: James Prince found the Rapid Lot Records and author of
- 2:27Speaker 1: the Art and Science of Respect. Zeena Brizard, owner of

- 2:39Speaker 1: Today is National Cheesecake Day. My next guest celebrations this
- 2:43Speaker 1: day all the time with the world's most fabulous cheesecake
- 2:46Speaker 1: from Junior's Restaurant. The man behind this extraordinary success is
- 2:49Speaker 1: a third generation of the Rosen family to lead the
- 2:53Speaker 1: Junior's Restaurant brand. Born and raised in New York, one
- 2:56Speaker 1: of my favorite cities. He grew up watching his father
- 2:58Speaker 1: Walter run their original Junior's restaurant. While in high school
- 3:02Speaker 1: and college. He spent his summers learning the business while
- 3:05Speaker 1: also acting as a manager at the original Brooklyn location.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Please welcome to money making conversations on National Cheesecake Day,
- 3:14Speaker 1: Alan Rosen, Thank you for having me. I appreciate such
- 3:17Speaker 1: a nice introduction. Now, Allen, I I built you up.
- 3:20Speaker 1: That's what you're gonna give him. Man, you really built
- 3:24Speaker 1: me up. That was I mean, that was almost too much,
- 3:26Speaker 1: too much of a building. No, no, you know, because
- 3:28Speaker 1: because I like cheesecake and this is your day, you know,
- 3:31Speaker 1: and so so tell me is this this is a
- 3:34Speaker 1: big media day for you on National Chief Day. Big,
- 3:36Speaker 1: This is a big media da. I've been doing media
- 3:39Speaker 1: since about six forty five. This morning in New York. Um,
- 3:42Speaker 1: you know this is you know, we've been around sixty
- 3:43Speaker 1: eight years. National Cheesecake Day didn't exist in nineteen fifty.
- 3:48Speaker 1: So we're very fortunate to have one of these names.
- 3:50Speaker 1: You know. You know, every day is a different day,
- 3:52Speaker 1: but today is our day. And it's nice in the summer,
- 3:54Speaker 1: you know, in July Bury to have a little shot
- 3:56Speaker 1: in the arm, if you know what I mean, If
- 3:58Speaker 1: someone gets some attention for our business has come up
- 4:00Speaker 1: with a new flavor of cheesecake because we wanted to
- 4:02Speaker 1: have some fun with it and just generally have a
- 4:04Speaker 1: really nice day in all four of our restaurants. Now,
- 4:07Speaker 1: the new flavor is strawberry short cake. Right, It's strawberry
- 4:11Speaker 1: shortcake cheesecake. What we did was we baked our New
- 4:15Speaker 1: York style and we're winning cheesecake with strawberries blended into it.
- 4:19Speaker 1: And then on top of it, we built a strawberry shortcake.
- 4:22Speaker 1: So you get a combination of two of the most
- 4:25Speaker 1: popular deserts in America, certainly this time of year. Now,
- 4:28Speaker 1: did tell me again? Okay? I got the you. You
- 4:31Speaker 1: you put the strawberries in the milks mixed, right, and
- 4:34Speaker 1: then you said the top layer we finished that. Then
- 4:38Speaker 1: we take a layer of whipped cream. Then we take
- 4:41Speaker 1: a layer of strawberry jam. Then we take another layer
- 4:45Speaker 1: of cake, and then we put some more whipped cream
- 4:47Speaker 1: around the whole thing, and then we finished it with
- 4:49Speaker 1: some strawberry and fused buttercream. The man, that sounds very
- 4:55Speaker 1: very good. But now let me ask you this, who
- 4:58Speaker 1: thought of that? Alan? If your master chef, all of
- 5:02Speaker 1: that we have in Amanda for you and she helped
- 5:06Speaker 1: us talk with that flavor and so so do y'all
- 5:10Speaker 1: do like a sample session? Oh yeah, we said every time.
- 5:14Speaker 1: We were so proud of our Cheesecake Heritage Edition that
- 5:18Speaker 1: we would sit around and we will taste and test
- 5:20Speaker 1: because we don't want to cover it up as you
- 5:21Speaker 1: know what I mean, want to make sure it all
- 5:24Speaker 1: enhances the experience doesn't take away from it. Okay, let's
- 5:27Speaker 1: let's talk. Let's talk with Sean McDonald and my experiences
- 5:32Speaker 1: at Junior's. Okay, first of all, they've all been fantastic. Okay,
- 5:37Speaker 1: let me just put that out right there. I lived
- 5:39Speaker 1: in New York twice. I lived in New York in
- 5:42Speaker 1: eight eight, I lived in New York in ninety in
- 5:45Speaker 1: two thousand five to two thousand and seven. So I've
- 5:48Speaker 1: had a good experience. And I go to New York
- 5:50Speaker 1: all the times. One of my favorite cities now, the
- 5:53Speaker 1: Time Square location I go there is packed all the time.
- 5:57Speaker 1: What is your most pop can I ask you that question?
- 5:59Speaker 1: What you your more popy location? You can the one,
- 6:01Speaker 1: the one and forty bitch shrink between Broadway and Eighth
- 6:03Speaker 1: that you're referring here was probably in the top ten
- 6:05Speaker 1: busiest restaurants in the United States of America. I know
- 6:08Speaker 1: every time I go in there, you know, because I
- 6:10Speaker 1: don't know anybody, so you know, I gotta stand in
- 6:12Speaker 1: lide so you know, listen, you know you know somebody now,
- 6:15Speaker 1: but he's gonna be there. He's my man. Dad to do?
- 6:19Speaker 1: Is your your text me? And well we'll flid because
- 6:22Speaker 1: I just Jason, I go in there, I go in there. Okay,
- 6:24Speaker 1: I've been at the Foxwood location. Okay, I've also been
- 6:27Speaker 1: which is really great? Is that? Men? You a little
- 6:29Speaker 1: bit different in Foxwood? That's the Foxwood to see it.
- 6:32Speaker 1: By the way, a little more. We add a couple
- 6:35Speaker 1: of local dishes wherever we are, so up at Foxwoods
- 6:38Speaker 1: we might have prime red Yes dishes just because we
- 6:42Speaker 1: want to. You know, we want to please the local clienta.
- 6:45Speaker 1: We don't want to act like a change each one
- 6:47Speaker 1: of our restaurants or have each have a chef in them.
- 6:50Speaker 1: You know, everything is from scratch and we want to
- 6:52Speaker 1: pay attention to the local environment where we are. We
- 6:54Speaker 1: want to be part of it. If you want a
- 6:57Speaker 1: good hamburger, everybody, you want a good hamburger, We're gonna
- 7:00Speaker 1: go through his menu. If you want a good hamburger,
- 7:02Speaker 1: go to Junior's because they have what I love, steak fries.
- 7:06Speaker 1: See steak fries. Who you thought those good steak fries
- 7:10Speaker 1: in front of me? You win in right there. And
- 7:13Speaker 1: so so when you start breaking down that menu, the
- 7:15Speaker 1: reason I like your menu is that it feels like
- 7:18Speaker 1: a hearty experience eating experience. Is that by design? Yes,
- 7:23Speaker 1: absolutely so, it's what I called is Brooklyn comfort fod.
- 7:27Speaker 1: But when you're so for instance, when you get one
- 7:28Speaker 1: of those deluxe burgers, it has steak fries that has
- 7:31Speaker 1: homemade on e rings, it had a ten ounce burger
- 7:33Speaker 1: on it. Um, you me. All of our portions are
- 7:37Speaker 1: very large, and you know that's part of the charm
- 7:41Speaker 1: of what we do. You're never gonna feel like you
- 7:42Speaker 1: got you paid too much and didn't get enough. Yeah,
- 7:46Speaker 1: because I used going there with my crew. One of
- 7:47Speaker 1: my crew members, with Steve Harvey, the comedian, famous comedian,
- 7:50Speaker 1: was scoring that all the time. And to Juniors. Remember
- 7:53Speaker 1: absolutely foxl When we go into the Brooklyn location where
- 7:56Speaker 1: we had our book signing back in two thousands nine,
- 7:58Speaker 1: we hung out in Junior said Brooklyn and then like
- 8:01Speaker 1: I said, at Times Square, whenever I'm over there, you know,
- 8:03Speaker 1: because it's got a ton of options to eat at.
- 8:05Speaker 1: And I'm just gonna let everybody know that if you've
- 8:07Speaker 1: never been, if you've ever been to New York, you
- 8:09Speaker 1: will know what I'm telling you. You're true. There are
- 8:11Speaker 1: a ton of eating options. And to say that his restaurants,
- 8:15Speaker 1: that business is a testament to the quality of service,
- 8:19Speaker 1: the pricing, and the type of good food that you
- 8:22Speaker 1: consistently get, because that's what that's what kind of happens.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Because you know when you when you spread out to
- 8:28Speaker 1: these you know, we're not gonna use the word change.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I want to say, individual restaurant, you get the same
- 8:33Speaker 1: service and the same smile. Because I'm that guy. I
- 8:36Speaker 1: eat all over the country, and so I go into
- 8:38Speaker 1: the place I expect that hamburger or that fries. I'm
- 8:42Speaker 1: telling something else about Juniors that y'all don't know. They
- 8:44Speaker 1: sell grits. See you said that like that, ain't you
- 8:51Speaker 1: get your choice of home fries? Regress. So I'm saying, See,
- 8:55Speaker 1: I'm a Southern born from Houston, Texans, So you know,
- 8:57Speaker 1: I lost my mind when I went to Junior's and
- 9:00Speaker 1: they had grits on the menu. Yep, so is man.
- 9:05Speaker 1: What's what's what's so great about Juniors, you know, is
- 9:07Speaker 1: that there's two items on the menu. So so for instance,
- 9:10Speaker 1: if you go there tonight and you want a cheeseburger
- 9:13Speaker 1: de luxe, or you want a piece of brawled salmone
- 9:16Speaker 1: or chicken parmjan or a broiled you know, uh, you know,
- 9:20Speaker 1: broiled steak, we have it all. And I mean there's
- 9:23Speaker 1: there's almost two items on that, man, but it is
- 9:26Speaker 1: not you know something. The thing about it, I'm gonna
- 9:27Speaker 1: tell you somebody, because a lot of players, you have
- 9:30Speaker 1: a a lot of menu items, it kind of like
- 9:33Speaker 1: confuses you, you know, like no, no, no, no, this
- 9:36Speaker 1: is all done. So Juniors when originally started was almost
- 9:39Speaker 1: like a kosher style restaurant. But over the years, what
- 9:42Speaker 1: we've added is a local favorite. So we have the
- 9:44Speaker 1: Southern influences like the grits and barbecue chicken and ribs
- 9:48Speaker 1: because that's what our customers wanted, okay. And and when
- 9:51Speaker 1: we ever my father or my uncle added something in
- 9:54Speaker 1: the menu, they said, if we're gonna add something, guys,
- 9:56Speaker 1: it's got to be great. So everything's done with a
- 9:59Speaker 1: real attain to the detail. And if you're gonna go
- 10:01Speaker 1: have a slice of cheesecake or a burger or a
- 10:05Speaker 1: corn me from Starmi sandwich. Why shouldn't it be the best,
- 10:08Speaker 1: most delicious, served in a really nice environment by some
- 10:11Speaker 1: really nice family members. That's what we That's how we
- 10:14Speaker 1: talked about the people I work with, and we have,
- 10:16Speaker 1: you know, close to nine people working with us only
- 10:18Speaker 1: with four restaurants, um. But that's that's how busy these
- 10:21Speaker 1: restaurants are. Absolutely, and I agree now before we in
- 10:25Speaker 1: this break, because I'm bringing it back because I want
- 10:27Speaker 1: to learn about your the whole history of you, your brand,
- 10:29Speaker 1: your development, because I love the fact you worked worked
- 10:32Speaker 1: at the restaurant and you learned your crap before you
- 10:35Speaker 1: inherited the business the way you. I didn't inherit I
- 10:38Speaker 1: didn't correct you. Shortly, I didn't inherit anything. I thought.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I bought my business from my uncle in a real transaction. Nothing,
- 10:44Speaker 1: nothing is a gift in this family. That's why. That's why.
- 10:47Speaker 1: You know, up until my kids were seven years old,
- 10:49Speaker 1: I work seven days a week, and then I decided
- 10:52Speaker 1: to take one or two days off just because I
- 10:54Speaker 1: wanted to watch and play a little week. You mentioned
- 10:56Speaker 1: your children, and uh, oh are they are? They are there?
- 10:59Speaker 1: They like seventeen seventeen, fifteen sows boy girl, twins who
- 11:08Speaker 1: are seventeen, and another boy who's fifteen. Um, I think
- 11:12Speaker 1: they're fond of the business. I don't think they're clear
- 11:15Speaker 1: yet on what they're gonna do with their lives. I
- 11:17Speaker 1: want to give them plenty of opportunity to make their
- 11:19Speaker 1: own minds up. You know it always always you always
- 11:22Speaker 1: amazed me people. It is a positive statement, Alec, because
- 11:25Speaker 1: you got it. You know, you understood that this is
- 11:27Speaker 1: what I wanted to do, whether you know and and
- 11:30Speaker 1: and you know I wanted to be in the restaurant business.
- 11:32Speaker 1: What passion drove you in that direction? I think when
- 11:36Speaker 1: you're a young boy. I was the youngest of three boys.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I saw my dad working tirelessly, and I used to
- 11:43Speaker 1: go to work with him, and I you know, when
- 11:44Speaker 1: you're a kid and you're five years old and you're
- 11:47Speaker 1: not as tall as the counter that you're working behind,
- 11:50Speaker 1: and you look up, everything is so grand, and I
- 11:53Speaker 1: just took this great view of it. Some people might
- 11:56Speaker 1: look at it, Oh, my dad worked too hard or
- 11:59Speaker 1: was too tough for too many hours, and I, for
- 12:02Speaker 1: some reason just loved it. And you know, there's an expression,
- 12:05Speaker 1: and it's true for me. You never work with Daniel
- 12:07Speaker 1: life if you love what you do. And I'm so
- 12:09Speaker 1: fortunate because I'm fifty years old now and I love
- 12:13Speaker 1: what I do, and so it's great. I'm gonna I'm
- 12:17Speaker 1: gonna go. You know, I'm sitting here in New York
- 12:19Speaker 1: right now. I'm going to Brooklyn and I'm gonna go
- 12:21Speaker 1: work in the kitchen for a few minutes. Okay, it's
- 12:24Speaker 1: not because I have to, but because I want to.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna put on my chef scout and I'm gonna
- 12:27Speaker 1: go make some sandwiches with the guys. That's awesome. Never
- 12:30Speaker 1: to answer, you do a number nine hundred employees now, yep,
- 12:34Speaker 1: four restaurants, that's what you say it, right, and plus
- 12:37Speaker 1: a plus a hundred thousand square foot bakery in South
- 12:39Speaker 1: Jersey to make all the wholesale cakes that are going
- 12:42Speaker 1: across the country. Now, you know, you're busy, my friend,
- 12:45Speaker 1: and that's a positive busy. So what's the what's the
- 12:48Speaker 1: what's the what's the goal, what's the what what's the brand? Read?
- 12:51Speaker 1: I don't, I don't. I think the goal is to
- 12:53Speaker 1: be good. But the goal is Also I'm not gonna
- 12:56Speaker 1: lie and say we don't want to grow. We're growing. Um,
- 12:59Speaker 1: you know every time we digest the location. We just
- 13:01Speaker 1: got a location in Florida, to be honest, we didn't
- 13:03Speaker 1: make it, much to my chagrin. Um, so now we've
- 13:06Speaker 1: got to go back to the drawing board and find
- 13:07Speaker 1: the next location. Um. We've got to keep growing our
- 13:10Speaker 1: wholesale business. You know, we've got to get into into
- 13:12Speaker 1: supermarkets that are in your neck of the woods down
- 13:14Speaker 1: in Atlanta, because right now in the northeast were very popular.
- 13:17Speaker 1: But we've got to spread out and keep working it. Um.
- 13:20Speaker 1: You know, we're still on QBC selling hundreds of thousands
- 13:22Speaker 1: of cheesekakes here. We sell you know, over a hundreds
- 13:26Speaker 1: of thousands something cheesekakes here direct to consumer. We're selling
- 13:29Speaker 1: probably you know, a couple of million more in the
- 13:31Speaker 1: wholesale channels. Um. You know, we're we're we're fairly like
- 13:37Speaker 1: you know, you've got the own live business on fire,
- 13:40Speaker 1: you know, yeah, because that's like, that's that's you know,
- 13:42Speaker 1: that's what you call no brick and mortar. You know,
- 13:45Speaker 1: you just there and you know what's what's great is
- 13:48Speaker 1: it is a store, and and don't think, you know,
- 13:50Speaker 1: everyone thinks once you build your website it's sort of
- 13:52Speaker 1: just done. You are constantly reinvesting in that. It is
- 13:55Speaker 1: a store. It needs new It needs new paint, and
- 13:58Speaker 1: needs new walls, It needs new plumbing. It constantly has
- 14:02Speaker 1: to be worked one and we are working on it
- 14:04Speaker 1: every month to make the experience better for people. On
- 14:07Speaker 1: the phone is my man, Alan Rosen. He oversees the
- 14:09Speaker 1: restaurants Junior's restaurant, retail, bakery, wholesale, and mail are the
- 14:13Speaker 1: operations which generates that you can correct me. It says
- 14:16Speaker 1: it was sixty five million dollars in annual sales. Closer
- 14:19Speaker 1: closer to a hundred. Okay, we've had a good couple
- 14:24Speaker 1: of years. Okay, you know, some man whoever said to
- 14:27Speaker 1: me this information usually listen to only because I like you,
- 14:31Speaker 1: And by letting that out there is usually I don't
- 14:32Speaker 1: say those kind of numbers because I find it almost
- 14:34Speaker 1: embarrassing because that's not the goal. I'm being totally honest
- 14:38Speaker 1: with you. Our goal is to be good at serving
- 14:41Speaker 1: food to people in a great environment, having a great
- 14:44Speaker 1: time every day, serving great cheesecake. How many it says
- 14:49Speaker 1: five thousand customers daily and approximately twenty thousand cheesecakes every week.
- 14:55Speaker 1: It's probably up to sixties seventy thousand cakes a week
- 14:58Speaker 1: now a of it. I love this guy. I love
- 15:01Speaker 1: this guy. Is National Cheesecake Day. I'm on the phone
- 15:04Speaker 1: with Alan Allen. Thank you for coming on my show.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna chan you the man. I I patronize your
- 15:11Speaker 1: business before I knew you. I'm a patronize and even
- 15:14Speaker 1: more and tell the world that you know you appreciate.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I appreciate your enthusiasm for what you do, because you
- 15:21Speaker 1: sound pretty fired up. I'm fired up about you. Man.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Is about money making conversation. You keep winning out there.
- 15:26Speaker 1: All right, we'll be right back with Moore from Marsan
- 15:34Speaker 1: McDonald and money making conversations. Don't touch that guy. When
- 15:38Speaker 1: I was an FBI agent, I was aware of home
- 15:41Speaker 1: title fraud. There was little we could do to stop it.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Now there's home title lot. This online bank was for
- 15:47Speaker 1: closing on us. They even documents that I signed for
- 15:50Speaker 1: a home equity loan. Only I didn't want a nightmare.
- 15:53Speaker 1: I didn't have home title lot then that I have it.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Now your home's title is online. Where in your issue
- 16:00Speaker 1: thieves can find it, they'll forge your title, take our
- 16:03Speaker 1: loans using your equity, or sell your home outright. Identity

- 18:16Speaker 1: How are you doing? Oh Zeeing? What you're doing? Girl?
- 18:18Speaker 1: Every time I catch you, you someone selling or you
- 18:20Speaker 1: someone setting up. And when I met you at at
- 18:23Speaker 1: the Black Expo in Atlanta, you were setting up and selling.
- 18:26Speaker 1: You're always on the go. Absolutely. I mean, if you
- 18:29Speaker 1: don't get out there and let people know what you're doing, uh,
- 18:34Speaker 1: you'll you'll you'll get lost in the cars because they
- 18:37Speaker 1: won't even know that you've got something available that will
- 18:39Speaker 1: help them. But I've got to be out there setting
- 18:41Speaker 1: up and selling. Absolutely. Now I love the fact let's
- 18:44Speaker 1: talk about Lofty bed Skirts. And it's because you know
- 18:47Speaker 1: you come on the show. I don't want to act
- 18:49Speaker 1: like we know each other, that we forget why you
- 18:50Speaker 1: on the show. We don't hear the show. Tell everybody
- 18:53Speaker 1: about your brand. A brand an idea which I love
- 18:56Speaker 1: talking about is an idea that started when your daughter
- 18:59Speaker 1: with just than two thousand and eight. Absolutely, when my
- 19:03Speaker 1: daughter started school and we enrolled her in Sam Houston.
- 19:07Speaker 1: The dorm rooms, like in most colleges and universities, they're
- 19:11Speaker 1: very small, and they have very limited amount of storage space,
- 19:15Speaker 1: and the beds are just higher up to thirty four
- 19:19Speaker 1: inches to allow you to store things underneath the big
- 19:21Speaker 1: great concept, But your basic bed skirt won't cover all that.
- 19:27Speaker 1: So I designed a bed skirt for her that would
- 19:31Speaker 1: not only conceal everything that she had to store underneath
- 19:34Speaker 1: the bed, but it has twelve panels, five on each
- 19:38Speaker 1: side and two on the end so that you can
- 19:40Speaker 1: lift up one panel without listening up the whole entire
- 19:43Speaker 1: bed skirt. For ease of access to what you need
- 19:46Speaker 1: to get to underneath the bed. We have access. I
- 19:53Speaker 1: don't remember that on our last interview. I don't remember
- 19:55Speaker 1: that wered ease of access that You've been doing a
- 19:58Speaker 1: lot of interviews lately since the last time I talk
- 20:00Speaker 1: to you. Well, you know, you've got to get out
- 20:03Speaker 1: there and uh and get your your your name, no,
- 20:05Speaker 1: get your brand out there. You have to all the time,
- 20:08Speaker 1: you know, And I'm so grateful for you allowing me
- 20:11Speaker 1: to be on your show and to let everybody know
- 20:13Speaker 1: what I'm doing and what I have available. Well, i'd
- 20:16Speaker 1: like to bring you on the show because of the
- 20:17Speaker 1: fact that first of all, on on UH serious XM
- 20:20Speaker 1: channel one for the one and one for the two,
- 20:22Speaker 1: which is Howard University and also HBCU campuses, because that's
- 20:27Speaker 1: a brand. You you're trying to reach colleges, You're trying
- 20:29Speaker 1: to reach the students and as well as the parents,
- 20:32Speaker 1: because the parents usually are the ones that make the
- 20:34Speaker 1: financial decision. And so I felt that I got I
- 20:37Speaker 1: want to I want to just keep drawing home what
- 20:39Speaker 1: your brand does and how is modestly priced. So tell
- 20:43Speaker 1: us how you got your patent in And you told
- 20:46Speaker 1: me getting the patent was not an easy task. And
- 20:49Speaker 1: it's not something you just wake up and just draw
- 20:51Speaker 1: on a piece of paper and mail in. You know,
- 20:53Speaker 1: like a lot of people that mail into a post office.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Don't open it up. You own it. That that's not
- 20:57Speaker 1: how pattents work. Correct. That that is correct. And I
- 21:01Speaker 1: recommend anybody that um it's looking into getting a pattern
- 21:04Speaker 1: they want to UH protect their idea or their inventions,
- 21:09Speaker 1: to hire a patent attorney to take care that for you,
- 21:14Speaker 1: because it is a very detailed, UH process. It's a
- 21:19Speaker 1: two year process. It's not something that happens overnight. There's
- 21:24Speaker 1: a lot of investigation work that goes into it that
- 21:28Speaker 1: they look into to make sure that there's nothing else
- 21:30Speaker 1: out there, uh that's close to what you're doing, uh
- 21:34Speaker 1: to before you submit it, so to make sure that
- 21:36Speaker 1: you can get it approved and then it's it's it's
- 21:40Speaker 1: a it's a long process, but it's well worth the
- 21:42Speaker 1: time and effort. Again online, tell everybody how they can
- 21:46Speaker 1: go what what what they can go to bouy please

- 24:46Speaker 1: I met her in Virginia. She's an international pro drag race,
- 24:50Speaker 1: so she's been promoting. She knows about social media because
- 24:53Speaker 1: she's been on social media all morning. Join me on LinkedIn,
- 24:56Speaker 1: Facebook and me. She's a professional speaker and bassetor model,

- 25:07Speaker 1: and she drives a semi track attractor Triggler. Let me
- 25:10Speaker 1: tell you so that's that's the biggest truck you can drive.
- 25:12Speaker 1: It's a tractor tracker. Please working with money making a
- 25:14Speaker 1: conversation Destiny Spurlock. Hey, good morning guys, Thank you for
- 25:21Speaker 1: it's so exciting. First of all, you know I met
- 25:25Speaker 1: her at a at a reception for Rugged Rugged Evolution,
- 25:28Speaker 1: which is a Beard product, and she was in there.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I had a I wanted say, boyfriend bodyguard where there
- 25:34Speaker 1: was some big dude with her. Okay, so so I
- 25:37Speaker 1: didn't even go over there. And even what I've learned
- 25:39Speaker 1: is I was just gonna walk over the people who
- 25:41Speaker 1: got big people next to them, I stay away. So
- 25:44Speaker 1: she had this big dude next year then her then
- 25:46Speaker 1: her publicist came over and introduced us and we became friends.
- 25:50Speaker 1: So you're not gonna havend me go over there to
- 25:52Speaker 1: the model slashing ambassador. Everybody was pointing at it too.
- 25:57Speaker 1: You know, she's a drag racer, she's a you know,
- 26:00Speaker 1: she's a she rided those bikes, you know, those high
- 26:02Speaker 1: speed bikes. And then somebody told me she drove those
- 26:05Speaker 1: tractor trails. Because I'm just looking at this because she's
- 26:07Speaker 1: a model, So no, tractor trailers don't associate themselves with
- 26:11Speaker 1: a model driving. So you're you're a truck owner and
- 26:15Speaker 1: you and before we eve get started, you're going to
- 26:17Speaker 1: make an announcement on the show today. Yes, do that?
- 26:22Speaker 1: Rescue that right now, this big announcements drum roll, because
- 26:24Speaker 1: she's on money making conversation. You only come on money
- 26:27Speaker 1: make conversation to make big announcements. Destiny Spurlock, what do
- 26:30Speaker 1: you have to announce. What I have to announce is
- 26:34Speaker 1: that I am in the process of getting ready to
- 26:37Speaker 1: race the two thousand nineteen Late Model nask Car Racing Series. Um,
- 26:42Speaker 1: it'll be my rookie years. So we are in preparation
- 26:46Speaker 1: as we speak right now to get ready for that
- 26:48Speaker 1: season next year. Good. So let me just ask you
- 26:52Speaker 1: this about this. Okay, Okay, you're based through Richmond and
- 26:55Speaker 1: you own a your co owner of a truck and business.
- 26:57Speaker 1: What what does a trucking business? Okay? So, um, the
- 27:02Speaker 1: name of my business is Skygo Logistics, and UM, I'm
- 27:05Speaker 1: a coloner with my cousin and it's here in Richard, Virginia.
- 27:09Speaker 1: But we travel all over the place. Uh. Like I said,
- 27:11Speaker 1: I drive eighteen wheelers. Believe it or not. I know,
- 27:14Speaker 1: I'm super small. I do do that. And um we
- 27:17Speaker 1: basically transport um cargo from a point A to point B.
- 27:22Speaker 1: So yeah, see would you say that? Like you know, yeah,
- 27:25Speaker 1: you know, big deal? Really you know that people I
- 27:27Speaker 1: do kids drive sick in a little a little Honda. Okay,
- 27:32Speaker 1: so let's go and be real about this. So you
- 27:33Speaker 1: have a professional license, uh, because that's a special license
- 27:37Speaker 1: that comes with driving those type of Vehicles. Correct, Yes, sir,
- 27:41Speaker 1: I have a CDO Class A license. I did not
- 27:44Speaker 1: go to school for most people do, but I literally
- 27:47Speaker 1: studied the book for two and a half weeks, got
- 27:49Speaker 1: my learners. Then you have to wait thirty days to
- 27:52Speaker 1: go be able to take the road test. And I
- 27:53Speaker 1: passed that on my first time, which is actually kind
- 27:56Speaker 1: of a big deal, not to to my own horn,
- 27:58Speaker 1: but most people fail, Like I think the percentage is
- 28:01Speaker 1: something like nineties something percent of people that take the
- 28:04Speaker 1: test that first time fail. But I was blessed enough
- 28:07Speaker 1: to be able to pass it on my first go,
- 28:09Speaker 1: So that's kind of cool. So, yes, you have to
- 28:12Speaker 1: have a special license. Did you do something you're naturally gifted?
- 28:14Speaker 1: And you are naturally gifted? Uh? Desin you know Desinely Spurlock.
- 28:19Speaker 1: You though she's an international pro drag racer. She beat
- 28:22Speaker 1: a NASCAR in twin and teen. She's training right now,
- 28:24Speaker 1: getting ready. Because I just won't let everybody know is
- 28:27Speaker 1: that this is not something you jump into. It is
- 28:29Speaker 1: something that you have to have a career. They don't
- 28:31Speaker 1: let you on the track because you because they like you. Yeah,
- 28:35Speaker 1: there's a dangerous field to get into. She started She's
- 28:38Speaker 1: mastered it, and she realized that that gets what practice
- 28:42Speaker 1: makes you perfect, especially when you're going two Now, Destiny,
- 28:45Speaker 1: I want you to be a regular on my show.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Can you do that for me? Of course I'll be
- 28:49Speaker 1: back for sure. Thank you. You know everybody keeps following
- 28:53Speaker 1: her desin Spurlock. She's an incredible talent, she's an ambassador,

- 33:00Speaker 1: on the ranch, you know, it duces a quarter a
- 33:02Speaker 1: million a year. Okay, now let's go back to hide.
- 33:06Speaker 1: I all started because I'm from fifth Wards. I don't
- 33:09Speaker 1: know if you know that, James. I'm from fifth War
- 33:11Speaker 1: thirty and fifteen Main Street, right there on the corner
- 33:13Speaker 1: a Russell and Bain Street. That's where I grew up.
- 33:16Speaker 1: I grew up in my six sisters, two brothers, lived
- 33:19Speaker 1: in a two bedrooms shotgun house. And to be on
- 33:22Speaker 1: the national radio show from Us with a fellow young
- 33:25Speaker 1: man from the hoods of the streets of filth four,
- 33:27Speaker 1: I think it's a blessing for both of us. My friends. Oh,
- 33:30Speaker 1: no doubt about right. The harder than that, now, you
- 33:35Speaker 1: know what I know? You know, you know I knew
- 33:36Speaker 1: he was cut your man. I'mna say when I knew
- 33:38Speaker 1: he was country when I started reading about you were
- 33:40Speaker 1: selling warm chicken eggs in the hood. Yeah, yeah, I
- 33:46Speaker 1: definitely a dollar, doesn't you know what I mean? I
- 33:49Speaker 1: had had country boards that lived on that street, and
- 33:53Speaker 1: they were sent me to the store for him all
- 33:56Speaker 1: the time, right, and the live that I could be
- 34:00Speaker 1: the one to sell them that eggs. You could buy
- 34:04Speaker 1: a whole chicken for a dollar. Back then, I'm like, Okay,
- 34:08Speaker 1: I'm investing some of these chickens and these chickens, you know,
- 34:11Speaker 1: lay a few eggs, a dozen a belt or a week,
- 34:14Speaker 1: and band I became an egg entrepreneur. But you always
- 34:21Speaker 1: saw the value. Like I said, a lot of people
- 34:23Speaker 1: call the street hustle because they only say that because
- 34:27Speaker 1: the individual lives in a community, like an urban environment.
- 34:32Speaker 1: You don't hear the word street hustle if you don't
- 34:34Speaker 1: live in the hood. That's just you just taking advantage
- 34:36Speaker 1: of a situation that you sold. Profitability, a sell ability,
- 34:40Speaker 1: and accountability. You said, people need eggs. I know how
- 34:43Speaker 1: to get eggs. Let me sell these eggs. And guess what,
- 34:46Speaker 1: there was people out there buying your eggs. But that's
- 34:48Speaker 1: how you laid out your whole life, correct. Yeah, yeah,
- 34:51Speaker 1: between the eggs and diversified and went to cutting yards
- 34:56Speaker 1: and you know what I mean. It went on and on.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I was only like eight nine years so, and uh,
- 35:01Speaker 1: I had several jobs. I worked on the back of
- 35:05Speaker 1: a wealth and truck. You know, man, I was I
- 35:09Speaker 1: just enjoying having money. I had this uncanny love for
- 35:12Speaker 1: money at the age of eight years old. And you know,
- 35:16Speaker 1: at all begun with me. I want to break the
- 35:19Speaker 1: poverty curse. You know what My family was concerned though.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Remember you you just count money, but you wouldn't need yourself.
- 35:31Speaker 1: You must have read about that whooping I got. Yeah, Yeah,
- 35:37Speaker 1: I got a whooping. Mm hmm, Yeah, I got a
- 35:41Speaker 1: whooping because I had a pocket full of money. And
- 35:45Speaker 1: I was waiting on my grandmother to come home from
- 35:48Speaker 1: work because I was hunger, but I had a pocket money.
- 35:52Speaker 1: So after she cooked, you know, I went to jump
- 35:55Speaker 1: in and got all kinds of energy and went to
- 35:57Speaker 1: stunting and pull out that bank roll. Head. Yeah, I
- 36:01Speaker 1: got a little walking. Don't this kind of money? Pocket
- 36:05Speaker 1: and the two standard and feed your stuff? Yeah, And
- 36:08Speaker 1: I thought that was very Uh, that's that's that's that's
- 36:11Speaker 1: a very understatement, you know. And I think that your
- 36:14Speaker 1: whole life when I when I read your book from
- 36:16Speaker 1: cover to cover. Um, starting with the fact that you
- 36:20Speaker 1: know you, does anybody really know that that real James Prince?
- 36:24Speaker 1: You know, because of the fact that people say you're
- 36:26Speaker 1: a hard business man, they say you're very calculated. I
- 36:30Speaker 1: remember when I met you outside my comedy club I
- 36:33Speaker 1: called the Hip Hop Commedies, that we were talking for
- 36:35Speaker 1: a few minutes before you hopped in your car. You
- 36:37Speaker 1: came to see him perform and um I walked back inside.
- 36:40Speaker 1: He said, man, you was out there talking to James. Boy,
- 36:42Speaker 1: you look you didn't get shot and so but you
- 36:44Speaker 1: just you know, you know, I'm just a little too,
- 36:46Speaker 1: you know, because people because people just felt that. You know,
- 36:49Speaker 1: you get around here, you know, you better be ready,
- 36:52Speaker 1: you better be on your toe. You stand next to James,
- 36:54Speaker 1: especially in public. Was that reputation warried that James? No,
- 36:58Speaker 1: you know, they a lot of people. Man, they've been
- 37:01Speaker 1: lying on me for years. You know, it's almost became
- 37:08Speaker 1: immune to it. Man, don't I don't eat my life
- 37:11Speaker 1: to bother me because I don't know all these stories
- 37:15Speaker 1: come from, you know what I mean. Not it's a
- 37:18Speaker 1: it's a fact that I'm not known joke, nothing like that.
- 37:21Speaker 1: But as far as uh abusing my authority, what I mean,
- 37:27Speaker 1: mistreating one in any kind of way. You know I'm not.
- 37:30Speaker 1: I'm not blessed the way I am living that way.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Absolutely no. All you know, would you be walking around
- 37:36Speaker 1: you know, people live their life in jail, are dead.
- 37:39Speaker 1: You know's there's ambience of that, there's evidence of that.
- 37:44Speaker 1: But all I know is that I was out there talking.
- 37:46Speaker 1: It was a sould out show. He was telling me,
- 37:48Speaker 1: I used to be you funny. I just thank you
- 37:49Speaker 1: because Willie D from the ghetto boards you to come
- 37:51Speaker 1: out of the club all time, the hip hop comedy stuff.
- 37:53Speaker 1: He used to live at, the hip hop comedy stoff
- 37:55Speaker 1: and uh, scar Face will come by that I've never
- 37:57Speaker 1: met Busher with you just crazy and uh, I never
- 38:00Speaker 1: really wanted to meet it once he got shot, Now
- 38:02Speaker 1: I really didn't want me to do who got shot
- 38:04Speaker 1: in the eye and survived? That wasn't really my bag
- 38:07Speaker 1: of tricks right there. But but but you know, but
- 38:10Speaker 1: just talking to you, that that that that that that
- 38:12Speaker 1: that allowed me to understand that you were a humble guy.
- 38:15Speaker 1: That's why I took away when I met you, a
- 38:17Speaker 1: humble guy, a successful guy, but you're very humble and
- 38:21Speaker 1: I think that that's that's the quality that that that
- 38:24Speaker 1: stands out the most when I tell people about my
- 38:27Speaker 1: experience and communicy, can't you because you were just this
- 38:29Speaker 1: was naty two, So you took the height of your
- 38:31Speaker 1: success that little run there. Everybody knew who it works,
- 38:34Speaker 1: you know who you were, and and and and then
- 38:37Speaker 1: the fact when you came into my comedy club, it
- 38:38Speaker 1: was like it was Buzzard, James and James and there
- 38:41Speaker 1: games in there. Okay, okay, cool, that's all right. You
- 38:44Speaker 1: know I played it off, all right, yeah, all right,
- 38:46Speaker 1: He's the only superstar came in my comedy club. Come on, now,
- 38:51Speaker 1: you know, but that but that humbleness is what carries
- 38:53Speaker 1: you today. Correct. Oh, yeah, you know, I'm a I'm
- 38:56Speaker 1: a man that you know. I definitely believe and give
- 39:00Speaker 1: and respect. You know what I mean. I believe in
- 39:03Speaker 1: order to receive it, you have to give it. And
- 39:05Speaker 1: you know I give it. And as you say that,
- 39:08Speaker 1: you know what I mean, I've I've earned it. And
- 39:11Speaker 1: then it's different places in my life. I demand that
- 39:15Speaker 1: There's so many things in the book that I want
- 39:17Speaker 1: people to read. I want people to buy The Art
- 39:19Speaker 1: and Size of Respect by James Prince Um. He's one
- 39:23Speaker 1: of the greater historians of rap music. From the standpoint
- 39:26Speaker 1: of when you read the book, it's like a it's
- 39:28Speaker 1: like a lesson of how to do it right. But
- 39:31Speaker 1: just tell us, in short about your experience with our
- 39:34Speaker 1: floor Mayweather and uh and let's we wrap this up
- 39:37Speaker 1: on how I note my friend. Yeah, well, you know,
- 39:40Speaker 1: of course, I build a recreations center and and full
- 39:43Speaker 1: court basketball, uh, the gym, the weight rowan, the computer room,
- 39:51Speaker 1: and then I build a boxing gym. I all on
- 39:53Speaker 1: the same piece of property in filth war and boxing
- 39:56Speaker 1: has always been my first love. And after serving amateurs
- 40:01Speaker 1: in the boxing gym, I decided, you know, I said, okay,
- 40:04Speaker 1: it's time for me to get back in the boxing.
- 40:07Speaker 1: And you know I did. I remember, you know, praying
- 40:11Speaker 1: and actually the Lord to bless me with the champion
- 40:13Speaker 1: because every goal, everything I ever trying to accompass in life,
- 40:19Speaker 1: I prayed first before I executed faith. So you know,
- 40:23Speaker 1: I went on to set up a meeting with Mike
- 40:25Speaker 1: Tyson in Las Vegas. Went to went to Las Vegas
- 40:28Speaker 1: watching Mike Tyson in the gym spawing, and Flaude Maywell
- 40:33Speaker 1: to have to come in the gym as well. So
- 40:36Speaker 1: you know, Flaude kept coming to me trying to hold
- 40:38Speaker 1: a conversation, and eventually he left his number with me
- 40:42Speaker 1: and say, man, you want to do something to night,
- 40:44Speaker 1: give me a call. So I went home with Mike
- 40:46Speaker 1: Tyson to have a meeting with him that afternoon, and
- 40:51Speaker 1: you know, eventually Mike got his wife on the phone,
- 40:54Speaker 1: and you know, Mike Tomay. I want Pressed to be
- 40:57Speaker 1: a part of my team. So I went on back
- 40:59Speaker 1: to my role later on that night and got up
- 41:03Speaker 1: the next day thinking I was gonna go visible with
- 41:05Speaker 1: Mike Tyson before I left or whatnot. And his phone
- 41:09Speaker 1: was not working you know what I mean. I think
- 41:11Speaker 1: his manager up whatever that guy named, was disconnected the phone.
- 41:17Speaker 1: So I was left with Mayweather novel. I asked my friend,
- 41:20Speaker 1: I say, uh, who is this guy? And he told
- 41:23Speaker 1: me said, oh, that Flawed Mayweather. He's a hundred and
- 41:26Speaker 1: thirty pound champions. At that point, you know, a red
- 41:29Speaker 1: light went off in my head because I say, man,
- 41:32Speaker 1: I prayed for a champion, Tyson, ain't you no champion?
- 41:35Speaker 1: At if he wasn't a champion at the time, he's
- 41:38Speaker 1: just the number one box in the world. So bam.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Within a week period of time, myself and Flawed Mayweather.
- 41:46Speaker 1: You know it was in business together. I'm gonna tell
- 41:48Speaker 1: everybody please buy this book. James, thank you for calling
- 41:51Speaker 1: my show man. I hope you enjoyed it. If for
- 41:54Speaker 1: a king, baby, you keep winning, and you keep winning
- 41:57Speaker 1: for the community, you keep winning for your family, and
- 42:00Speaker 1: anytime you need me, if you got another day, let me.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Let me introduce you, brother, Let me introduce you my

- 46:20Speaker 1: I know you're on this popular seis Let's let's let's
- 46:22Speaker 1: get to let's get to this series. First of all,
- 46:23Speaker 1: we're yet right now where all you're talking to me from,
- 46:27Speaker 1: I'm home and home is home is right now Atlanta
- 46:32Speaker 1: or Atlanta, Georgia. Okay, you could have come in studio
- 46:37Speaker 1: and did this interview girl this, I'm really mad. Now,
- 46:40Speaker 1: I'm really mad. Now to make you mad, don't make
- 46:44Speaker 1: me mad. Because you're a superhero. You're superhero, You're thunder.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Thunder can make a difference. Now, let's talk about We've
- 46:50Speaker 1: got a lot of things to talk about. Your your
- 46:52Speaker 1: your give back programs, uh, your uplifting programs by Saturdays Dreaming.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Let's talk about it and some of the shows you've
- 46:59Speaker 1: done it for. But let's talk about Black Lightning. How
- 47:03Speaker 1: you auditioned for that role and how it is so
- 47:07Speaker 1: it's changing the game for you know, we all know
- 47:10Speaker 1: about Black Panther, we all know about that, but Black
- 47:14Speaker 1: Lightning is has carved out his own niches is playing
- 47:17Speaker 1: very well on Netflix. I follow it and I went
- 47:19Speaker 1: from CT. Did you know you're hot when Netflix picked
- 47:23Speaker 1: you up a quickly. That's a good sign right there
- 47:24Speaker 1: that you've got something going on. So tell us about
- 47:27Speaker 1: how did you audition and how your life has changed
- 47:31Speaker 1: that you've been associated with Black Lightning. Well, I got
- 47:34Speaker 1: the call from my manager about a year and a
- 47:37Speaker 1: half ago that I had this all, this thing called
- 47:39Speaker 1: Black Lightning. I didn't. I never I never heard of
- 47:41Speaker 1: Black Lightning. Never knew that we even had a black
- 47:45Speaker 1: superhero along with his family that was a part of
- 47:49Speaker 1: the d C universe. Never knew, So I go, I
- 47:52Speaker 1: never knew either. Don't worry about it. I never do.
- 47:54Speaker 1: I never knew. But I get the script and I
- 47:57Speaker 1: was like, first of all, knowing that Mara and Salu
- 48:01Speaker 1: mckilbre at the helm of it all and they were
- 48:03Speaker 1: the writers and the executive producers, I knew that this
- 48:06Speaker 1: would be a good show because their work speaks for itself.
- 48:09Speaker 1: I'm a huge fan of their work, always wanted to
- 48:11Speaker 1: work with them. So I was first excited to read
- 48:14Speaker 1: the script because I knew they were attached to it.
- 48:16Speaker 1: So I read the script and I was like, I
- 48:18Speaker 1: just appreciated the story. Most superheroes you see are, you know,
- 48:23Speaker 1: in their early twenties, and here with Black Lightning, you
- 48:27Speaker 1: have a middle age man with the family who is
- 48:31Speaker 1: a high school principle. We've just never seen or heard
- 48:33Speaker 1: this story before, and I appreciated the strong bold and
- 48:36Speaker 1: independent female characters that they created within this world. So
- 48:41Speaker 1: I went in for this job and I was like, listen, y'all,
- 48:44Speaker 1: y'all looking for me. I felt so connected. I felt
- 48:48Speaker 1: so connected to the character and felt so connected to
- 48:51Speaker 1: the story that I just really went in so focused,
- 48:54Speaker 1: and I said, just go in and let them know
- 48:56Speaker 1: that you are her. And that was just the goal,
- 49:00Speaker 1: you know, to go in and and show them that
- 49:02Speaker 1: I understood this character and that I was really wanting
- 49:05Speaker 1: to give my voice over to her and under you know,
- 49:07Speaker 1: I just said everything about her world. So um, coming
- 49:11Speaker 1: from a city like Philly, I understand some of the
- 49:14Speaker 1: problems that that that the city Freeland faces within the
- 49:18Speaker 1: show and just wanting to be a voice for that
- 49:20Speaker 1: and hopefully start change, you know, with within our country,
- 49:24Speaker 1: within our cities. And um, that was pretty much my
- 49:27Speaker 1: my my audition process a minute this week. She said
- 49:33Speaker 1: a lot of good information because I want to continue
- 49:35Speaker 1: a store, but I want to feel people in the background.
- 49:37Speaker 1: She mentioned mar Brock and her husband now Mars, some
- 49:40Speaker 1: of the work that Mars done, his girlfriends being Mary
- 49:44Speaker 1: Jane the game. Just to know a little history about
- 49:47Speaker 1: her writing sample and you know, uh, in the new
- 49:51Speaker 1: series on own and so that's THEMP. Okay to know
- 49:55Speaker 1: that about that, okay to show black Lightning. She has
- 49:58Speaker 1: a sister, and she has a mom, and she has
- 50:01Speaker 1: a dad. That's the family dynamic that she's talking about,
- 50:05Speaker 1: and that the encompasses black Lightning. In her father's role,
- 50:08Speaker 1: he's a high school principal. Now her character is a
- 50:12Speaker 1: very defiant character. And initially on the show. Um, the
- 50:16Speaker 1: character is a gay character. Now initially on the show,
- 50:20Speaker 1: and I want to ask about this, and as we
- 50:21Speaker 1: go through the interview process, she had a relationship. But
- 50:25Speaker 1: I thought in the beginning that bogged down the show
- 50:29Speaker 1: because the show succeeds based on the family dynamic and
- 50:32Speaker 1: how they all come together. Because she has a sister
- 50:35Speaker 1: who's reluctant to be a superhero. She just wants to
- 50:38Speaker 1: She just wants to have kids. She wants to be
- 50:39Speaker 1: a normal person, and she's she's trauma tized. In the series.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Now Thunder Thunder all about being a superhero. She's all
- 50:47Speaker 1: about taking her power and and and and saving the community,
- 50:52Speaker 1: fixing the wrongs in the community. Of fact, her father
- 50:55Speaker 1: has to calm Thunder down. Now you can continue excited yeah, Thunder, Thunder.
- 51:04Speaker 1: She understands and she learns that she has these superpowers,
- 51:07Speaker 1: and you see her through the first season trying to
- 51:08Speaker 1: navigate and develop them. And once this lightbulb goes off
- 51:12Speaker 1: of understanding how her powers work, she gets really really
- 51:16Speaker 1: excited and really passionate, and she believes that this is
- 51:18Speaker 1: a gift from God and she is she used it
- 51:20Speaker 1: to save people who can't save themselves. So that is
- 51:24Speaker 1: her logic behind, you know, wanting to go out and
- 51:27Speaker 1: use the powers that have been given to her. Um
- 51:30Speaker 1: and as you said, uh, my sister on the show
- 51:33Speaker 1: played by China and the claim she has a totally
- 51:35Speaker 1: different feeling about having these powers. She thinks that it
- 51:39Speaker 1: makes us freaks and she's not normal and she just,
- 51:42Speaker 1: you know, this doesn't really understand and why her life
- 51:45Speaker 1: has been you know, changed in the in the major
- 51:48Speaker 1: way that it has been. And you can see, you know,
- 51:51Speaker 1: throughout the season where I'm trying to convince her that
- 51:54Speaker 1: we have to use our God given powers. And as
- 51:57Speaker 1: you spoke on Black Lightning, you know, deal with the
- 52:00Speaker 1: fact that his daughter has these same powers, not the
- 52:03Speaker 1: same powers, but you know they have been given special
- 52:06Speaker 1: abilities and just trying to you know, navigate through that
- 52:10Speaker 1: world of of protecting them. But also you know, I
- 52:14Speaker 1: have to train them because it is what it is.
- 52:16Speaker 1: And if I trained them, then hopefully you know they'll
- 52:19Speaker 1: they'll you know, be as well off as possible when
- 52:23Speaker 1: it comes to the whole superhero world. So yeah, it's
- 52:26Speaker 1: it's it's it's really a show about a family first,
- 52:29Speaker 1: and it's not it's not that you're reminded that they're
- 52:32Speaker 1: superheroes until you see them in their costumes, when you
- 52:34Speaker 1: see them actually out fighting crime and saving people. But
- 52:37Speaker 1: it's really a show about a family and you know,
- 52:41Speaker 1: going through family problems and them trying to overcome them together,
- 52:45Speaker 1: which I thought was really cool because you don't see
- 52:47Speaker 1: a superhero, you know, with his family, as I mentioned before,
- 52:50Speaker 1: you you know, you usually see this young superhero flying
- 52:53Speaker 1: and jumping all around, and you have this family of
- 52:57Speaker 1: superheroes and and that's just an amazing concept with a
- 53:00Speaker 1: really cool idea. And kudos to everyone over at d
- 53:03Speaker 1: C and Tony, Isabella and Trevor who created you know, this,
- 53:08Speaker 1: this this character. And before we go, I want to
- 53:11Speaker 1: talk about some of the get back programs you work
- 53:13Speaker 1: with the skid Role campaign. Let's talk about that before
- 53:17Speaker 1: we go, because I want to just let everybody shape
- 53:20Speaker 1: all your lifestyle. You know that you do have time
- 53:23Speaker 1: for the for individuals. Your character that you just you
- 53:26Speaker 1: do a TV really transcend to your everyday life. Tell
- 53:29Speaker 1: us about your efforts in the community. Thank you. I
- 53:32Speaker 1: just believe that, you know, it's our duty to serve
- 53:35Speaker 1: and to give back, especially when you've been blessed so much.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Much is given, much is required, and I believe that
- 53:41Speaker 1: the secret and service, you know, and we're put here
- 53:44Speaker 1: to bless each other and too, you know, inspire and
- 53:46Speaker 1: empower each other. And that's pretty much my life mission,
- 53:49Speaker 1: I believe. You know, Um, life begins when you start
- 53:52Speaker 1: to follow your dreams and understand what your purposes. And
- 53:55Speaker 1: then the once you understand what your purpose is, your
- 53:57Speaker 1: job next is to help the next person and you know,
- 54:01Speaker 1: discover what THEIRS is and encourage them to follow theirs.
- 54:04Speaker 1: So um, that's just basically you know. I try to
- 54:07Speaker 1: live by that rule. I go down to Ski Road
- 54:10Speaker 1: while I was going when I was in l A.
- 54:12Speaker 1: And I try to go when I go when I
- 54:14Speaker 1: you know, when I'm not filming. But it's the Peggy
- 54:17Speaker 1: Beatrice Foundation and we go down to Skiar Road. We closed,
- 54:20Speaker 1: we see, we pray, you know, just incur sometimes just listen,
- 54:24Speaker 1: you know, being a listening ear and I love doing it.
- 54:28Speaker 1: I'm most happy when I'm when I'm serving and when
- 54:30Speaker 1: I'm giving. So um, that's that's definitely one of one
- 54:34Speaker 1: of my favorite things to be doing. And I get
- 54:37Speaker 1: please keep doing it real quickly tell everybody about Saturday
