- 1:15Speaker 1: You know, because I think I'm in shape, but I'm
- 1:18Speaker 1: gonna tell you I'm not in shape when I when
- 1:20Speaker 1: I stand next to this young man. You know, if
- 1:23Speaker 1: I got one of them on big old posters on
- 1:25Speaker 1: the wall, you know the life size. My next guest
- 1:29Speaker 1: is an NFL legend. He's a high Highsten Trophy winner
- 1:33Speaker 1: actor which I love, entrepreneur which I love, and philanthropists.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Please welcome to money Making Conversations. Eddie George. Yeah, how
- 1:42Speaker 1: you doing, my man? Are you in the day. I'm
- 1:44Speaker 1: doing very very well, and thank you for coming on
- 1:47Speaker 1: my show. Because my show, I'm gonna just give you
- 1:49Speaker 1: a little short background on the show. What I'm trying
- 1:51Speaker 1: to do is um. This is it's more like I'm
- 1:53Speaker 1: mentoring listeners and viewers on the show about listening to
- 1:58Speaker 1: successful CEOs, industry decision makers, UH, celebrities UM and small
- 2:04Speaker 1: business entrepreneurs. Who were successful at a high level. And
- 2:08Speaker 1: what you guys give to them is the insight, the motivation,
- 2:12Speaker 1: the ups and downs that you have in life. And
- 2:15Speaker 1: also it's important to balanced life that I really want
- 2:18Speaker 1: to always emphasize that some things I failed in Eddie
- 2:22Speaker 1: is that you know, I was just I was just
- 2:23Speaker 1: on that little rat wheel, you know, and they didn't
- 2:25Speaker 1: want to jump off because I feared I might miss
- 2:28Speaker 1: an opportunity or I feared I might lose the games
- 2:31Speaker 1: that I was making. Now I look at your life,
- 2:34Speaker 1: my man, and you know you were we were a
- 2:38Speaker 1: fearless football player. And and and sometimes I've heard the
- 2:40Speaker 1: announcer say you're a man's man on the field. You
- 2:43Speaker 1: know you physically just could you know, you took a
- 2:46Speaker 1: hit and you came back from that. So but you
- 2:49Speaker 1: also had a foresight to say I'm gonna have a
- 2:52Speaker 1: balanced life. Talk to us about that. And as we
- 2:55Speaker 1: start this interview, the balanced life, well, yeah, balance life, man,
- 3:01Speaker 1: for me, was being unbalanced at first. Figure out yourselves
- 3:06Speaker 1: unbalanced to get balanced, and a lot of things will
- 3:10Speaker 1: put you in check, to um to put you in balanced,
- 3:15Speaker 1: to make you aware of where you're out of sync.
- 3:19Speaker 1: For me, it was someone in my my my personal
- 3:23Speaker 1: life with my family, because sometimes you know, when you're
- 3:27Speaker 1: pursuing a goal and get so caught up into that
- 3:31Speaker 1: specific goal, it becomes almost like your idol. That's the
- 3:34Speaker 1: only thing you could see, think about the gym about it,
- 3:37Speaker 1: and that's fine, But there are other things that get um,
- 3:42Speaker 1: get pushed to the side or ignored in the process
- 3:45Speaker 1: of that. Sometimes as your family, your life, it's um
- 3:49Speaker 1: your other other things that you love to do, it's
- 3:52Speaker 1: um uh your your your spiritual life, and he kind
- 3:57Speaker 1: of you get lost in it so you won't have to.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I've had to really peel back to the onion and say, okay, um,
- 4:05Speaker 1: one of the things that I could do more efficiently,
- 4:08Speaker 1: effectively and still enjoy my life. You know. Unfortunately for
- 4:12Speaker 1: the last four or five years, I've had to go
- 4:15Speaker 1: to several funerals for loved ones, uh some teammates that
- 4:20Speaker 1: were my age or younger, um, for family members, and
- 4:24Speaker 1: it really really puts in perspective of what's important. Like this,
- 4:29Speaker 1: you look at the eulogy, you look at the things
- 4:31Speaker 1: they have accomplished, and that's not what's important. It's really
- 4:34Speaker 1: how you impacted others, What you've been able to do
- 4:38Speaker 1: to help someone else out, how you've been able to
- 4:40Speaker 1: passion with torch, have been able to inspire other people,
- 4:44Speaker 1: spending time with your family. Those are the things that
- 4:46Speaker 1: have been really important in my life. So that's UM
- 4:49Speaker 1: in a nutshell, what I try to do in terms
- 4:53Speaker 1: of really putting perspective and priorities in check while also
- 4:59Speaker 1: UM being the best businessman or actor that I can
- 5:02Speaker 1: be because living my life UM in that in that
- 5:07Speaker 1: realm supports that it helps that I become a better businessman,
- 5:11Speaker 1: become a better actor, a better teacher, better philanthropists because
- 5:15Speaker 1: I'm just simply living life. That's important because so you're
- 5:19Speaker 1: basically telling us that you know, at one point football
- 5:22Speaker 1: was Yeah, the last four or five years has caused
- 5:27Speaker 1: you to to look at a look at life through
- 5:30Speaker 1: a different eye, a different lens. And and what is that?
- 5:34Speaker 1: What is that lens, Eddie, Well, that that lens is
- 5:38Speaker 1: to really approach your life for the sense of gratitude
- 5:41Speaker 1: because every day it gets, every single day that you
- 5:44Speaker 1: wake up is an opportunity to get better at something,
- 5:47Speaker 1: to realize that you have a great greater purpose to
- 5:50Speaker 1: achieve something. UM is a blessing from God, you know,
- 5:54Speaker 1: to have your health. And you know I retired fifteen
- 5:58Speaker 1: years ago. Wow, this has been a process. It's not
- 6:01Speaker 1: like I jumped off the field you yesterday or five
- 6:04Speaker 1: years ago, but you look like you look like you
- 6:07Speaker 1: just jumped off the field. Or I appreciate that. I
- 6:11Speaker 1: appreciate that. Everybody in the booth with when you said
- 6:14Speaker 1: fifty years, everybody booth went huh, yeah, yeah, this is
- 6:18Speaker 1: not this is not a you know since that time,
- 6:21Speaker 1: you know, I've done quite a bit. You know, I've
- 6:23Speaker 1: had I've been a part of businesses. I went to
- 6:25Speaker 1: kind of an NBA. I've got my degree in landscape architecture,
- 6:29Speaker 1: I had my own business with and that I transitioned
- 6:32Speaker 1: three or four times, evolved three or four times into
- 6:37Speaker 1: you know, the things that I'm passionate about now in
- 6:39Speaker 1: my life. And it's it's it's an evolution and it's
- 6:43Speaker 1: being agile so forth. So you know, the lens that
- 6:46Speaker 1: I looked through today, it's a forty four year old
- 6:49Speaker 1: man is one of sixty gratitude and understanding that I
- 6:54Speaker 1: can't do everything by myself, and nor do I want to,
- 6:57Speaker 1: And the things that I appreciate now are the simple
- 7:01Speaker 1: things and like and that's just getting a great health
- 7:06Speaker 1: report from the doctors or breaking up and I can
- 7:08Speaker 1: see here, touch it, feel I can I can get
- 7:11Speaker 1: out of my bed and walk comfortably to the bathroom.
- 7:15Speaker 1: That things are really are really a blessing in life.
- 7:20Speaker 1: When you really look at, um, what's going on in
- 7:23Speaker 1: this world? And when we say that reference that we
- 7:25Speaker 1: have the reference CTE you know, which is which is
- 7:28Speaker 1: really came to the forefront by the media and NFL
- 7:32Speaker 1: has had to say there isn't there is a problem
- 7:35Speaker 1: with that. So when you look at that, and you
- 7:37Speaker 1: look at the way you play, and you look at
- 7:38Speaker 1: some of your teammates, what do you what are your
- 7:40Speaker 1: what is your response when I say something about c
- 7:42Speaker 1: t e UM. Really, honestly, UM, I don't have a response.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I don't worry about c t UM. It's still something
- 7:51Speaker 1: that's still being UM looked at. In terms of research.
- 7:57Speaker 1: UM I recommend and I encourage guys to go and
- 8:02Speaker 1: get tested and to figure out where they are today.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I just recently got um my m r I in
- 8:09Speaker 1: my brain and see why I'm agin it looks like
- 8:10Speaker 1: it's perfectly good health. But five six years from now,
- 8:14Speaker 1: who knows what that could be. So that's still that
- 8:17Speaker 1: still needs to be more research to be done with
- 8:19Speaker 1: CT in the game of football, because statistically soccer is
- 8:25Speaker 1: you get more successive soccer than you do in football.
- 8:27Speaker 1: And I don't see, right, I don't see anyone talking
- 8:31Speaker 1: about CT and net sport or CT in boxing or
- 8:34Speaker 1: CT in in hockey. It's all relegated towards football and
- 8:40Speaker 1: uh and that's the number one sport in the country,
- 8:43Speaker 1: in the world really in terms of billions of dollars.
- 8:45Speaker 1: So you know, there's there's a whole trick to it.
- 8:48Speaker 1: You know, That's the way I look at it. And
- 8:50Speaker 1: I'm not going to live my life based off of
- 8:52Speaker 1: fear of what may come away. They're not come. I'm listen,
- 8:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna leave this. Everybody. Something's want to take you
- 8:57Speaker 1: out of here. You you, I love, I love you.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I love your energy because because I have that energy.
- 9:05Speaker 1: And so because of the fact that I know I
- 9:07Speaker 1: would tell people, you know, when I hit fifty, I
- 9:09Speaker 1: say I'm on the downside diet, you know, I saying
- 9:11Speaker 1: you're good because you know, when you're twenty you can
- 9:13Speaker 1: look for but it guess what I'm not mad at
- 9:15Speaker 1: that because I'm gonna live my life every day and
- 9:18Speaker 1: I'm cool with that. But but but but when I
- 9:21Speaker 1: look at what you're doing now, the transitional things that
- 9:23Speaker 1: you've done in fifteen years, So what are you currently
- 9:26Speaker 1: doing right now on the campus of Ohio State University? Well, um,
- 9:31Speaker 1: right now, I am. I am a teacher. I teaching
- 9:33Speaker 1: Ohio State as the adjunct professor during for four years UH,
- 9:37Speaker 1: teaching the subject of the business professional sports and the
- 9:42Speaker 1: NUTS show. It's something that I wish I would have
- 9:44Speaker 1: had to prepare before the beginning, middle, and end of
- 9:48Speaker 1: my professional football career. And we look at it to
- 9:51Speaker 1: the lens of the athletes, to look at the business
- 9:53Speaker 1: to the lens of an agent, financial advisor, GM, parents, family.
- 10:00Speaker 1: So it helps prepare the athlete for what they're going
- 10:02Speaker 1: to see when they come into the life of being
- 10:06Speaker 1: a professional athlete, the life during UH, you know, being
- 10:10Speaker 1: a pressional athlete, and certainly afterwards to say, Okay, what
- 10:15Speaker 1: are my passions, what is my platform? What have I created?
- 10:19Speaker 1: Hoping I transition into something that's far greater, it will
- 10:24Speaker 1: be far more rewarding and both financially, spiritually, emotionally physically,
- 10:30Speaker 1: you know, greater than I ever played the game a
- 10:32Speaker 1: football and basketball, baseball. So it's it's just it's taking
- 10:36Speaker 1: away the money element and just saying money. You're starting
- 10:39Speaker 1: money and something will will solve all your issues. And
- 10:43Speaker 1: you know you need that that that that emotional support
- 10:46Speaker 1: you need, UM, that that social support there with you
- 10:50Speaker 1: to help you transition through. And you also need a
- 10:52Speaker 1: spiritual element to gods you do that and UM and
- 10:56Speaker 1: that's what the whole premise of the School of the
- 10:58Speaker 1: of the Classes about. And we bring in various speakers, uh,
- 11:02Speaker 1: through the years. Just to name a few, Bo Jackson
- 11:05Speaker 1: spoke to share for the Withofield the Seal, the president
- 11:08Speaker 1: of the Charlotte Hornet's UM, I've had Kevin Plane come
- 11:12Speaker 1: in of CEO of under Armor. Uh. These are former
- 11:15Speaker 1: athletes that have transitioned to something greater. Rushan McDonald need
- 11:21Speaker 1: to be talking there, you know, so that you know
- 11:24Speaker 1: absolutely definitely would definitely have definitely bringing more than you
- 11:31Speaker 1: know to share your story because you know it really
- 11:34Speaker 1: brings its light to the whole premise. And you know
- 11:38Speaker 1: these guys, you know, when you think it's a hundred
- 11:40Speaker 1: and twenty five million dollars contract guaranteed. You know, we'll
- 11:43Speaker 1: break that down until we'll look at a real NFL contract,
- 11:47Speaker 1: look at what's guaranteed and what's not taking through, you know,
- 11:50Speaker 1: profit law statement through. We're gonna hold out the conversation.
- 11:53Speaker 1: We're gonna be right back with more of Eddie George

- 13:52Speaker 1: conversation is never off the air. You can hear me
- 13:55Speaker 1: everywhere our Heart Radio podcast live every Monday, Busy level
- 14:00Speaker 1: Nanny And guess what I got An NFL legend on
- 14:03Speaker 1: the phone Hasman Trophy winner as an athlete. He's a
- 14:06Speaker 1: four time pro bowler playing you know Houston or than
- 14:10Speaker 1: Tendensee Titans. I'm from Houston, so I knew Eddie George
- 14:13Speaker 1: tended tighten him up. He should be playing for us,
- 14:15Speaker 1: playing in Super Bowl thirty four. He's an entrepreneur, philanthropists, actor, businessman.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Please walking back into the phone back on the call
- 14:24Speaker 1: back on the show, Eddie, George, Eddie, how you doing
- 14:28Speaker 1: do well? Man? Glad to be heard, not viewed. You know,
- 14:31Speaker 1: like I said, you know, man, you know I'm a Houston,
- 14:33Speaker 1: Texas boy, so and so I still got a home
- 14:36Speaker 1: in Houston. So watching you play all those years in
- 14:39Speaker 1: Tennessee was hurting me. Man was hurting me, I know, Man, Yeah, yeah,
- 14:49Speaker 1: you know the powers that be Man, you know, we
- 14:52Speaker 1: had to we had to leave you because you know,
- 14:55Speaker 1: the blood Adams and in the city of Houston, it
- 14:58Speaker 1: was not harmonious at all the relationships. So you know,
- 15:02Speaker 1: but that but that was the first time you saw
- 15:05Speaker 1: with business what the football is about business? Okay, because
- 15:10Speaker 1: you got drafted to live in one city and they said, nope,
- 15:12Speaker 1: we're gonna go to another city that offers more money.
- 15:15Speaker 1: If that's that's the first awakening. And so when I
- 15:18Speaker 1: look at your background now the Kellogg School of Manager
- 15:21Speaker 1: and tell us why you went there? They got the NBA.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Why was it important? Well, at that time, I just
- 15:29Speaker 1: finished I was about thirty three thirty four years old UM,
- 15:34Speaker 1: and I had a business sty I was involved in
- 15:37Speaker 1: UM with my landscape architecture firm, which had got my
- 15:40Speaker 1: degree in and UM. I was doing some of the
- 15:43Speaker 1: day to day stuff and I felt that I needed
- 15:46Speaker 1: to have more exposures to that world, finance, to marketing,
- 15:52Speaker 1: all the elements that I wanted to help grow the business.
- 15:56Speaker 1: And I just didn't know. I just didn't have no idea.
- 15:58Speaker 1: My background case and foot ball, and I knew some contracts,
- 16:02Speaker 1: I knew marketing for some degree from my own personal stands.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Put in terms of developing and growing the business and
- 16:08Speaker 1: and looking for key partnerships, I wanted more information and
- 16:12Speaker 1: I was hungry to learn. So that was the impetus
- 16:16Speaker 1: behind me going that can get my NBA, because I
- 16:19Speaker 1: just felt like it was a world that, um that
- 16:22Speaker 1: I was unfamiliar with, and I wanted to immerse myself
- 16:25Speaker 1: and that be uncomfortable in that world, restretched by that world,
- 16:29Speaker 1: so it could be a better businessman because of it.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Now where did the acting come into all this? You know?
- 16:35Speaker 1: I mean, let me just an incredible football player, landscape
- 16:41Speaker 1: architect Okay, NBA, all listen, not one time you said drama.
- 16:47Speaker 1: But where did I wanted this? Where did this dream start?
- 16:51Speaker 1: And how did it lead to the opportunity? Right? Well, um,
- 16:56Speaker 1: let me break this now? Okay. There. I like to say,
- 16:58Speaker 1: it's the three ease my life that I've worked under,
- 17:02Speaker 1: and it's it's entertainment, education, and entrepreneurship. So when you
- 17:09Speaker 1: when you look at my life and you try to say,
- 17:11Speaker 1: well he did landscape architecture, oh he's I worked under
- 17:16Speaker 1: three three components that worked together and I try to
- 17:18Speaker 1: find synergies within each one of them. So under entertainment,
- 17:22Speaker 1: I was the commentator. Um, I got into acting, and
- 17:26Speaker 1: acting was something that I wanted to be a better
- 17:28Speaker 1: commentator and so I got to drama less and lessons
- 17:31Speaker 1: because of it. As a result of that, UM, I
- 17:34Speaker 1: found the tip of a love for telling stories because
- 17:38Speaker 1: I was able to take a lot of the things
- 17:40Speaker 1: God was going through at that particular time in my
- 17:42Speaker 1: life and filter that through the lens of a character
- 17:46Speaker 1: and telling stories. And it was very therapeutic for me
- 17:50Speaker 1: to do that because I had a lot of anxiety
- 17:54Speaker 1: and a lot of fear because of what was next.
- 17:57Speaker 1: When happened, as I didn't leave the game under my
- 17:58Speaker 1: own terms, it was like, well, you know, this is
- 18:02Speaker 1: your age, how much money you're making, You're running back
- 18:04Speaker 1: and that's it for you. Now, I was like, what
- 18:08Speaker 1: am I going to do next? And I love the
- 18:10Speaker 1: business and I was and I was getting opportunities as
- 18:15Speaker 1: a commentator and the actor, and it just kind of
- 18:17Speaker 1: morphed into itself. It wasn't like I woke up this
- 18:20Speaker 1: morning and say, hey, you know what, I'm gonna go
- 18:22Speaker 1: try acting. It was like I was already involved in it.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I was already doing things and it just kind of
- 18:27Speaker 1: grew from there and it just led me to Broadway.
- 18:30Speaker 1: So instead of me deciding will say I'm just going
- 18:33Speaker 1: to be an actor in my life or I'm just
- 18:35Speaker 1: going to be a labeled myself. I said, no, I'm
- 18:38Speaker 1: going to unleash myself with the labels, and here are
- 18:41Speaker 1: the areas I want to work in, and I'm going
- 18:43Speaker 1: to develop a complete business model around my passions and
- 18:47Speaker 1: things I do. Because guess what, in the entertainment world,
- 18:50Speaker 1: that's business to know the business. And that's when the
- 18:55Speaker 1: entrepreneurial aside comes in because you just can't go in
- 18:58Speaker 1: as an actor or just as a pawn. You've got
- 19:01Speaker 1: to understand the business. So and everything that you do
- 19:05Speaker 1: in life, there's a business side too. For restaurant always
- 19:08Speaker 1: want to be upon. So tell us about the with
- 19:11Speaker 1: all that your your planning the three es. Now we're
- 19:14Speaker 1: going into the the award George it Ward, George Wealthy
- 19:18Speaker 1: Management Group. What exactly is that? Okay, because you because
- 19:21Speaker 1: you're teaching classes in Ohio state similar in informed but
- 19:25Speaker 1: now you actually have a business called the management group. Yes,
- 19:29Speaker 1: that's that's that's something that I learned. I worked for
- 19:32Speaker 1: hard for got my license in the business. I studied
- 19:35Speaker 1: and got my serious seven license and Series sixty six license.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Over the last three or four years, I transitioned away
- 19:43Speaker 1: from my the the edge group of landscape firm, so
- 19:48Speaker 1: I can to votely focused on this UM and it's
- 19:52Speaker 1: really to help high networks individuals, athletes with money, CEOs,
- 19:57Speaker 1: special groups to maintain their wealth and to put themselves
- 20:02Speaker 1: in a better position financially speaking for their future. UM.
- 20:07Speaker 1: So something that I know very intimately endeable with my
- 20:11Speaker 1: own money and the mistakes that I had made. UM
- 20:15Speaker 1: trying to help young athletes and people make better decisions,
- 20:19Speaker 1: to deserve their wealth and put them in vehicles that
- 20:21Speaker 1: will appreciate over time. Now that's important because you know,
- 20:27Speaker 1: I'm an entertainment so I like an athlete, I get
- 20:30Speaker 1: spirits of big money and sometimes that money can stop
- 20:33Speaker 1: or keep going against stop suddenly, you know. And that's important.
- 20:38Speaker 1: And so so when you look at you know, you
- 20:40Speaker 1: have the upcoming draft coming up, these players coming in
- 20:43Speaker 1: and they got these big salaries. Are you able to
- 20:46Speaker 1: talk to these players or you just or or how
- 20:49Speaker 1: does that work? Do you? Are you able to create
- 20:51Speaker 1: a relationship with incoming players are just players who are
- 20:54Speaker 1: already in the league. No, we can, I mean obviously
- 20:57Speaker 1: you know you work with players, uh that had money.
- 21:01Speaker 1: So it's it's brookies. It's best things. It's you know,
- 21:05Speaker 1: guys that have played the game before, before, during and after.
- 21:08Speaker 1: So um, you know, we we have a few guys
- 21:12Speaker 1: that we looked at in the past, rookies that have
- 21:15Speaker 1: come out and try to build relationship with and to
- 21:17Speaker 1: see if it is a vibe there. Um. There are
- 21:21Speaker 1: several financial firms, there are several um financial institutions that
- 21:26Speaker 1: and aller the safe services we do. And it's really
- 21:28Speaker 1: about finding the right fit because I try to find
- 21:31Speaker 1: I have a rifle approach and I try to find
- 21:34Speaker 1: the right guy that works well with us. Not am
- 21:38Speaker 1: I trying to get everybody. I'm trying to find the
- 21:40Speaker 1: right kid that gets it, that's understand that understands it's
- 21:44Speaker 1: in it for the long haul. And it's not just
- 21:47Speaker 1: about the financial services. It's about really a lifestyle services,
- 21:53Speaker 1: you know, in terms of you know, making the right
- 21:56Speaker 1: lifestyle choices to preserve your wealth, because epotence is managing
- 22:01Speaker 1: your cost and controlling your impulses and seeing it for
- 22:05Speaker 1: the next twenty thirty forty years well after you're playing,
- 22:10Speaker 1: and trying to build recurring revenue streams for yourself after
- 22:14Speaker 1: your play. So that's where I'm more focused on and
- 22:17Speaker 1: if we get somebody at a young age, great, If
- 22:20Speaker 1: we get them in the middle of their career, great,
- 22:22Speaker 1: And we have clients that we were with at the
- 22:23Speaker 1: end of their careers and um, it's been it's been
- 22:26Speaker 1: a wonderful deal. So it gives me an opportunity to
- 22:30Speaker 1: meet people from all across the board, from different backgrounds,
- 22:33Speaker 1: different businesses. Um, athletes, You're not just dealing with athletes only.
- 22:38Speaker 1: So that makes sure that to understood. Yeah, there has
- 22:41Speaker 1: to be very clear about that about building my business
- 22:43Speaker 1: on athletes, because that's you know, from my own perspective,
- 22:48Speaker 1: that's a violence for business. So I have to create
- 22:51Speaker 1: different relationships that that brings stability to my own life,
- 22:56Speaker 1: to my own business life that I can continue to
- 22:59Speaker 1: grow and build as we move on. This is the
- 23:02Speaker 1: Edwards George Wealth Management Group, which provides comprehensive investment management
- 23:06Speaker 1: financial services services that include wealth management and state planning,
- 23:10Speaker 1: which is important, tax planning strategies, which is amazingly important,
- 23:14Speaker 1: retirement and income planning. I've believe me, I've engaged in
- 23:20Speaker 1: all those relationships. That's why I wanted to make sure
- 23:21Speaker 1: people understood that when you hear me. Talk to you
- 23:24Speaker 1: when you hear hear me talking. I'm not talking about
- 23:26Speaker 1: just athletes, an everyday person who has a small entrepreneur
