- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarfl Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Welcome back to Connecting the Dots. I'm
- 0:17Alex. And I'm Morgan. We're from the Snarful
- 0:19Solutions Group right here in Sacramento. It
- 0:21is Friday, November 14th, 2025, and we're here
- 0:24to help you untack what's happening in the world
- 0:26of tech and finance. And before we get to the
- 0:28big stories, a quick look outside our window.
- 0:30Right, here in Sacramento, we're looking at chance
- 0:33showers today, high of about 63 degrees. That
- 0:37atmospheric river is still hanging around. It
- 0:39is. It's bringing some pretty heavy rain and
- 0:41snow up in the Sierra Nevada, anything above
- 0:437 ,000 feet. And that means potential flooding
- 0:46down in Southern California is still a concern
- 0:48through the weekend. OK, let's turn to the markets.
- 0:50It felt like a really choppy day, kind of a mixed
- 0:52bag at the close. Very mixed. The Dow Jones closed
- 0:55down just a bit, about half percent, at 47 ,004
- 0:59.15. That keeps it slightly in the red for the
- 1:02week. But the S &P 500 actually had a better
- 1:05day. It did, yeah. It managed to climb about
- 1:070 .36%, closing at 6 ,696 .05. But it's still
- 1:12down over 1 % for the week. And Bitcoin, it's
- 1:15been hovering near that big $100 ,000 mark, but
- 1:18it seems to have taken a hit. A pretty big one.
- 1:20The volatility is definitely back. It closed
- 1:22at $96 ,404 .46, which is down 3 .30 % in just
- 1:28the last 24 hours. Wow. And that puts it down
- 1:31over 9 % for the week. Oh. And that drop is a
- 1:35really important piece of context for our first
- 1:37big story. It certainly is. But before we get
- 1:40there, we want to thank our sponsor, Old Glory.
- 1:42With the holidays coming up, you're probably
- 1:44looking for gifts, and they have amazing gear
- 1:47for any music or sports fan. I mean, even for
- 1:50that techie friend who has everything. It's an
- 1:52iconic store, and you'll definitely find something
- 1:53unique there. And here's the best part. If you
- 1:56use our promo code SNARFULL, all in one word,
- 1:58at checkout, you'll get 15 % off your entire
- 2:00purchase. Just go to OldGlory .com. OK, let's
- 2:04get into it. It is time for our morning star,
- 2:06the top three tech stories you need to know about
- 2:08today. And the first one is... It's a really
- 2:11big deal. It signals a fundamental shift in the
- 2:14US crypto business. So landmark announcement,
- 2:17really. The publicly traded Bitcoin miner Bitfarms,
- 2:21that's ticker BITF, is getting out of Bitcoin
- 2:24mining completely. Completely. 100%. They're
- 2:28pivoting their entire business over to AI infrastructure
- 2:31and high performance computing. They're the first
- 2:34major miner to announce a total exit. That's
- 2:36just, I mean, Bitcoin is trading at $96 ,000
- 2:39a coin and they're walking away. What is happening?
- 2:42Why? It all comes down to the money. The financials
- 2:45are really forcing their hand here. Okay. Their
- 2:47Q3 earnings just came out. They posted a net
- 2:49loss of $46 million. Wow, $46 million. And that's
- 2:53double the $24 million loss they had this time
- 2:56last year. On top of that, their revenue missed
- 2:59what analysts were expecting by more than 16%.
- 3:01So the business just isn't working for them anymore?
- 3:04Not in the U .S. It isn't. The cost of energy,
- 3:06the mining difficulty, it's all eating away at
- 3:09any profit they might have made. So they're swapping
- 3:11one power -hungry business for another, moving
- 3:13into what they call GPU -a -service, or GAS.
- 3:16Is this happening overnight? No. It's a gradual
- 3:18wind -down of their Bitcoin operations through
- 3:202026 and into 2027. But their CEO, Ben Gagnon,
- 3:24made this absolutely stunning comparison about
- 3:28the potential here. This is the part that really
- 3:30got my attention. Tell everyone what he said.
- 3:32Okay, so he pointed to just one of their sites,
- 3:34their 18 megawatt facility in Washington state.
- 3:38Now, to be clear, that's less than 1 % of their
- 3:40entire company portfolio. Right, a tiny fraction.
- 3:43And he said that converting just that one site
- 3:46to run, you know, liquid -cooled NVIDIA GB300
- 3:49chips for AI... could generate more net operating
- 3:53income than their entire history of Bitcoin mining
- 3:55combined. That is insane. Let that sink in. One
- 3:58percent of their infrastructure pointed at AI
- 4:01is potentially worth more than everything they've
- 4:02ever done mining Bitcoin. It just shows you the
- 4:04astronomical demand and frankly the margins available
- 4:07for AI compute right now. So what did the market
- 4:10think of this brilliant pivot? Well the market
- 4:12hated it. at least in the short term. The stock,
- 4:15BITF, dropped 18 % on the news. It's down 51
- 4:19% in the past month. So what's the real story
- 4:21here for you, for our listener? It means that
- 4:23Bitcoin mining in high -cost places like the
- 4:25U .S. is becoming a really tough business. The
- 4:28operations are moving to places with cheaper
- 4:30energy, like the Middle East or Russia. And here,
- 4:34that energy infrastructure is getting repurposed
- 4:36for the AI gold rush. It's a huge shift. OK,
- 4:39from commercial reality to regulatory reality.
- 4:42Let's head over to Europe, where they are wrestling
- 4:45with how to police this borderless world of crypto.
- 4:49Exactly. The European Commission has a new proposal
- 4:51on the table, and it's a big one. They want to
- 4:53centralize a lot of the crypto oversight and
- 4:56give that power to ESMA, the European Securities
- 4:58and Markets Authority. So, sort of like creating
- 5:01their own version of the SEC in the US, but for
- 5:04all of Europe. That's the goal. Right now, the
- 5:06system is really fragmented. Because of that
- 5:08MICA framework, right? Right. MICA introduced
- 5:10this concept called passporting. Basically, if
- 5:13a crypto company gets a license in any one EU
- 5:15country, they can then operate across the entire
- 5:18block of 27 nations. Ah, okay, so I can see the
- 5:21problem. It creates a regulatory race to the
- 5:22bottom. You just find the easiest place to get
- 5:25a license and then set up shop everywhere. You
- 5:27nailed it. And we've seen it happen. You have
- 5:29firms like Robinhood getting a license in Lithuania,
- 5:32or OKX in Malta, and then they're free to operate
- 5:35in the huge markets like France and Germany.
- 5:37And I'm guessing France and Germany aren't too
- 5:38thrilled about that. Not at all. They, along
- 5:41with Italy and Austria, are the ones pushing
- 5:43for ESME to get direct control over the large
- 5:46cross -border exchanges. They're worried about
- 5:48inconsistent standards, security risks, money
- 5:51laundering. You know all the big concerns, but
- 5:55when you centralize power like that. There's
- 5:57always a risk Isn't there a trade -off there
- 5:59is some in the industry are worried that a single
- 6:02centralized regulator might be less nimble that
- 6:05it might create legal confusion Or that you lose
- 6:08that local on -the -ground expertise that national
- 6:11regulators have so the proposal still has to
- 6:13get through the European Parliament It does but
- 6:16what this really shows is how the world's major
- 6:19economies are all grappling with the same fundamental
- 6:21problem How do you regulate a global digital
- 6:25financial system without stifling it? A question
- 6:28nobody seems to have a perfect answer for yet.
- 6:32Okay, for our third story, we're shifting focus
- 6:35from regulation back to the giants of the industry,
- 6:38specifically Tether. Yes, Tether, the company
- 6:40behind the USDT stablecoin. They're making some
- 6:43very aggressive, very deliberate moves into the
- 6:46world of traditional finance. Their CEO, Paolo
- 6:49Arduino, talked about a dramatic expansion in
- 6:52lending, but not to other crypto companies. No,
- 6:54not at all. They're expanding lending to commodities
- 6:58traders. Commodities, you mean like... Oil and
- 7:01wheat exactly oil cotton wheat agricultural products
- 7:05the basic building blocks the global economy
- 7:07tether has already loaned out about one point
- 7:09five billion dollars to that sector using both
- 7:11regular dollars and their own stable coin us
- 7:14dt that's right and for anyone listening we really
- 7:16need to understand the scale of tether here because
- 7:19a billion and a half dollars is believe it or
- 7:21not a drop in the bucket for them. It really
- 7:23is. I mean, this is a company that holds $135
- 7:25billion in US treasuries. Which makes them the
- 7:2817th largest holder of US debt in the world.
- 7:31They hold more than South Korea, more than Germany.
- 7:33It's staggering. And the CEO expects them to
- 7:36blow past Brazil's $200 billion holding soon.
- 7:40So you have this crypto native company that is
- 7:45one of the biggest creditors to the US government.
- 7:48And now it's using that massive capital base
- 7:51to finance global trade in things like food and
- 7:54energy. The lines are getting very, very blurry
- 7:57between crypto and, you know, traditional bank.
- 8:00They're being erased. Now, to be fair, they're
- 8:02still a pretty small player compared to the big
- 8:04banks and commodity lending. But their ambition
- 8:07is huge. Speaking of ambition, there is that
- 8:09fun little detail about their other interests.
- 8:11Oh, right. The CEO has openly said they're very
- 8:14interested in buying the Italian soccer club,
- 8:17Juventus. And they're already the second largest
- 8:19shareholder, I read. They are. So you have a
- 8:22stablecoin giant trying to finance wheat farmers
- 8:25on one hand and buy a legendary sports team on
- 8:27the other. It really just shows you how deeply
- 8:29this capital is embedding itself into the mainstream
- 8:31world. You really can't make this stuff up. Nope.
- 8:34OK, that wraps up our Morningstar report. But
- 8:36before we recap, we also want to thank our other
- 8:38amazing sponsor, Scony. That's Scony. If you're
- 8:42a golfer. or just want some incredibly comfortable
- 8:44stylish shoes, you have to check them out. They
- 8:46are premium quality. They are. And just like
- 8:48with our other sponsor, you can use the promo
- 8:50code SNORFUL at checkout to get 15 % off your
- 8:53entire order. Find them at scony .com. All right,
- 8:57let's bring it all home. What are the three big
- 8:59takeaways for everyone listening today? I think
- 9:01the big theme is crypto growing up and being
- 9:04forced to integrate with the real world. First,
- 9:07the Bitfarm story shows the hard economic truth
- 9:11that in the US right now, AI is just a much more
- 9:14profitable business than Bitcoin mining. OK,
- 9:17one. What's two? Second, the EU's move to give
- 9:20ESMA more power shows how regulators everywhere
- 9:23are struggling to create a unified rulebook for
- 9:25a borderless industry. And finally, Tether. Tether's
- 9:29move into commodity lacking shows that this massive
- 9:31pool of crypto capital is no longer staying in
- 9:34its own lane. It's flowing directly into the
- 9:37core plumbing of the global economy. Excellent
- 9:39summary. A lot to think about heading into the
- 9:41weekend. We're here to help at Snarfull, so reach
- 9:44out on our website if you have any more questions.
- 9:49That's a wrap on today's top stories. Remember,
