- 0:03So, Kurt, we're
- 0:04here in Central Park
- 0:05for most New Yorkers
- 0:06or people who visit here,
- 0:07they know you come here to relax
- 0:08and get away from the city.
- 0:09The noise.
- 0:10seems like the markets
- 0:11are kind of doing the same thing.
- 0:13They're breathing,
- 0:13they're relaxing.
- 0:14Maybe they're taking in a picnic
- 0:16as well.
- 0:16What's going on here?
- 0:17Now, the markets have
- 0:18have really come into a period of
- 0:20exceptionally low volatility.
- 0:22If you look at the measure
- 0:24of equity volatility by the VIX
- 0:26that's near the very low levels.
- 0:29Rates
- 0:30have kind of come into a range.
- 0:33Credit spreads
- 0:34seem like credit
- 0:35spreads are very tight
- 0:37We had to endure some
- 0:39pretty rocky, stormy
- 0:40seas in the spring
- 0:42and early summer
- 0:43with the announcement
- 0:44of the Liberation Day tariffs
- 0:46and a lot of other
- 0:47political noise.
- 0:48So, It's all
- 0:50nice clear skies.
- 0:52A great place to relax
- 0:54and unwind here
- 0:56in the summer months.
- 0:57Yeah.
- 0:57we had Producer Price Index
- 0:59come in recently
- 1:00at a rise of 9/10 of a percent,
- 1:01which was a multi-year high.
- 1:03What am I missing
- 1:04that the markets are saying
- 1:06this is okay right now?
- 1:07Inflation's moving
- 1:08in the wrong direction.
- 1:10And the labor market
- 1:11is not as strong as it once was.
- 1:13And that is a problem for the fed
- 1:15as they're setting
- 1:15monetary policy.
- 1:16But I think
- 1:17what they're going to do is
- 1:18they're going to
- 1:19look at the tariff
- 1:20rise as a one time
- 1:22price increase,
- 1:23almost like a tax hike.
- 1:25And what financial markets
- 1:26do tend to like is
- 1:28when the fed is cutting
- 1:29interest rates
- 1:29into a slowing
- 1:30economic environment.
- 1:32And they're cutting rates
- 1:34from a level that some think
- 1:35is maybe a bit too tight.
- 1:37All right.
- 1:37So Kurt, here's
- 1:38the million dollar question.
- 1:39As you mentioned
- 1:40volatility is near all time lows.
- 1:42The stock market S&P
- 1:43and Nasdaq are near
- 1:44all time highs.
- 1:45Credit spreads are really tight.
- 1:48How long do you think that
- 1:49this kind of quiet, picnic
- 1:51like atmosphere for
- 1:53the markets is going to last?
- 1:54So yeah the equity market
- 1:56we think
- 1:56is still in a bull market.
- 1:59And so we'd be buyers on dips.
- 2:01Fixed income
- 2:03is going to provide some cushion.
- 2:04And that's important.
- 2:05the bond markets
- 2:06telling us that there isn't
- 2:07really any concern about
- 2:09companies defaulting
- 2:10if there's not a recession, that
- 2:12shouldn't be
- 2:12a big concern either.
- 2:13So how to get that cushion?
- 2:16Interest rates there around 4%.
- 2:18Add some investment
- 2:19grade corporate bonds.
- 2:21You're approaching 5%.
- 2:22That's good income.
- 2:24Gold is another diversifier
- 2:25that you can add
- 2:26into the portfolio
- 2:27that we think has upside.
- 2:28So those are some strategies
- 2:30that you can blend in.
- 2:31You're not just taking
- 2:33risk in the markets,
- 2:34which as you point out or at all
- 2:35time highs.
- 2:36You have a diversified portfolio
- 2:38that is taking advantage
- 2:39of the upside,
- 2:40but with some
- 2:40volatility to dampen.
- 2:42Great.
- 2:42Thank you Kurt.
- 2:43My pleasure.
- 2:44Good to be with you.
- 2:44Picnic time. That's right.
