- 0:00Luke chapter 19. He entered Jericho and was
- 0:03passing through and there was a man called by the name of
- 0:05Zacchaeus. He was the chief tax collector
- 0:07and he was rich. Zacchaeus was trying to see who
- 0:10Jesus was and was unable because of the crowd, for he was small
- 0:13in stature. So he ran on ahead and climbed
- 0:16up into a Sycamore tree in order to see him, for he was about to
- 0:19pass through that way. When Jesus came to the place, he
- 0:22looked up and said to him, Zacchaeus, hurry and come down,
- 0:25for today I must stay at your house.
- 0:28And he hurried and came down and received him gladly.
- 0:30When they saw it, they all began to grumble, saying, He has gone
- 0:34to be the guest of a man who is a Sinner.
- 0:36Zacchaeus stopped and said to the Lord, Behold Lord, half of
- 0:40my possessions I will give to the poor, and if I have
- 0:43defrauded anyone of anything, I will give back four times as
- 0:46much. And Jesus said to him, today
- 0:48salvation has come to this house, because he too is the son
- 0:52of Abraham, for the son of man has come to seek and save that
- 0:55which was lost. While they were listening to
- 0:58these things, Jesus went on to tell a parable, because he was
- 1:00near Jerusalem and they supposed that the Kingdom of God was
- 1:03going to appear immediately. So he said, a nobleman went to a
- 1:07distant country to receive a Kingdom for himself and then
- 1:09return. And he called ten of his slaves
- 1:12and gave them 10 Minas and said to them, Do business with this
- 1:15until I come back. But his citizens hated him and
- 1:18sent a delegation after him, saying, We do not want this man
- 1:21to reign over us. When he returned after receiving
- 1:24the Kingdom, he ordered that these slaves to whom he had
- 1:27given the money be called to him so that he might know what
- 1:30business they had done. The first appeared saying,
- 1:33Master Yermina has made 10 menas more.
- 1:36And he said to him, Well done, good slave, because you've been
- 1:39faithful in a very little thing, you are to be in authority over
- 1:4210 cities. The second came saying Yermina,
- 1:45Master has made 5 menas and he said to him also and you are to
- 1:50be over 5 cities. Another came saying, Master,
- 1:53here is your MENA, which I kept put away in a handkerchief, for
- 1:57I was afraid of you because you are an exacting man.
- 2:01You take up what you did not lay down and reap what you did not
- 2:04sow. He said to him, by your own
- 2:07words I will judge you, you worthless slave.
- 2:10Did you know that I am an exacting man, taking up what I
- 2:13did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow?
- 2:16Then why did you not put my money in the bank?
- 2:18And having come, I would have collected it with interest.
- 2:21Then he said to the bystanders, Take the MENA away from him and
- 2:24give it to the one who has 10 menas.
- 2:27And they said to him, Master, he has 10 menas already.
- 2:30I tell you that to everyone who has, more shall be given, but
- 2:34from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be
- 2:36taken away. But these enemies of mine who
- 2:39did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay
- 2:42them in my presence. After he had said these things,
- 2:46he was going on ahead, coming up to Jerusalem.
- 2:48When he approached Bethpage and Bethany near the mount that is
- 2:51called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples saying, Go into
- 2:54the village ahead of you. There as you enter, you will
- 2:57find a colt, Tide, on which no one yet has ever sat.
- 3:00Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you why are you
- 3:03untieing it, you shall say the Lord has need of it.
- 3:06So those who were sent away went and found it, just as he had
- 3:09told them. As they were untying the colt,
- 3:11its owners said to them, Why are you untying the colt?
- 3:14They said, The Lord has need of it.
- 3:16They brought it to Jesus, and they threw their coats on the
- 3:19colt and put Jesus on it. As he was going, they were
- 3:22spreading their coats on the road.
- 3:24As soon as he was approaching near the descent of the Mount of
- 3:26Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God
- 3:29joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had
- 3:32seen shouting. Blessed is the King, who comes
- 3:35in the name of the Lord, peace in heaven, and glory in the
- 3:38highest. Some of the Pharisees in the
- 3:41crowd said to him, Teacher, rebuke your disciples.
- 3:44But Jesus answered, I tell you, if these become silent, the
- 3:48stones will cry out. When he approached Jerusalem, he
- 3:51saw the city and wept over it, saying, If you had known in this
- 3:54day even you, the things which make for peace, but now they
- 3:58have been hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you
- 4:01when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you and
- 4:04surround you and hem you in on every side, and they will level
- 4:07you to the ground and your children within you, and they
- 4:10will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did
- 4:13not recognize the time of your visitation.
- 4:17Jesus entered the temple and began to drive out those who
- 4:19were selling, saying to them, It is written, and My house shall
- 4:23be a House of prayer. But you have made it a robber's
- 4:26den. And he was teaching daily in the
- 4:28temple. But the chief priests and the
- 4:30scribes and the leading men among the people were trying to
- 4:33destroy him, and they could not find anything that they might
- 4:36do. For all the people were hanging
- 4:38on to every word, he said.
