- 2:04Speaker 1: money making conversations. She said, she got her game on
- 2:07Speaker 1: for me today, the media journalist, producer, and inspirational speaker
- 2:13Speaker 1: see love Bill, Thank you so much. I'm so excited
- 2:17Speaker 1: to be here, so excited to be with you, and
- 2:19Speaker 1: thank you so much for that great introduction. I felt
- 2:22Speaker 1: I felt special where you are, you know, because you
- 2:24Speaker 1: know the thing about it when people come on my
- 2:26Speaker 1: show many years of Steve, Steve Harvey UH used to
- 2:30Speaker 1: always when I stopped doing stand up comedy, Steve said, man,
- 2:33Speaker 1: can you introduce me? Can you just come into my
- 2:36Speaker 1: show to just introduce me? And because he just knew that,
- 2:40Speaker 1: I knew you always gotta set the stage and everybody
- 2:43Speaker 1: has value. And sometimes it's not enough for me to
- 2:46Speaker 1: say you were just the you know, the founder of
- 2:48Speaker 1: the creative the Bill Report. Let's talk a little history.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Let's talk a little because when people hit these intros,
- 2:54Speaker 1: you you guys, you are a legacy maker. You know,
- 2:57Speaker 1: you are a groundbreaker, you are a visionary. And that's
- 3:00Speaker 1: why I have to put it out like that. I
- 3:01Speaker 1: can't just say you know your name and just say, well,
- 3:05Speaker 1: here's the question that you sent over me to ask
- 3:07Speaker 1: I do additional research, and so the Bill Report is
- 3:10Speaker 1: something that's important to my brand. And that's why I
- 3:12Speaker 1: had to invite you on my show, I say, I said,
- 3:14Speaker 1: because somebody gets sheel on my show, because somebody get
- 3:17Speaker 1: on my show. Well, Rich, we we're reaching out. What
- 3:21Speaker 1: please get on my show? And because you support my brand?
- 3:24Speaker 1: And so why do you feel it's important to support
- 3:26Speaker 1: my brand of money making conversations? Well, I'm thinking about
- 3:30Speaker 1: all the different people that you're talking to, the different
- 3:33Speaker 1: lives that are out there, and it's so much that's
- 3:35Speaker 1: going on right now. No one lives the same life.
- 3:38Speaker 1: No one thinks the same way. No one processes information
- 3:41Speaker 1: the same way. So when you're reaching out to different
- 3:43Speaker 1: people on different platforms and different arenas, in different cities
- 3:46Speaker 1: and different states, looking at politics and people, and even
- 3:49Speaker 1: when you ask them what is your understanding and belief
- 3:52Speaker 1: of God, everyone has a different story to tell. Everyone's
- 3:55Speaker 1: gonna view something differently. No one processes information the same way. Know,
- 4:00Speaker 1: when you're talking to me or Jesse Jackson, or Michael
- 4:04Speaker 1: Eric Dyson or Oprah Winfrey, no one's gonna be looking
- 4:07Speaker 1: at life the same way because no one has gone
- 4:10Speaker 1: through life. The same. Everyone has had different experiences up down, good, bad.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Some people have money, some people don't. Some people are
- 4:17Speaker 1: challenge some people are not. And then sometimes when you
- 4:20Speaker 1: look at you are approached with the door, and then
- 4:22Speaker 1: the door closes in your face. What do you do?
- 4:25Speaker 1: Do you sit back and do you complain? Or do
- 4:27Speaker 1: you realize that God allowed that door to close? Knowing
- 4:30Speaker 1: that you are the fighter, and the fighter that's within
- 4:33Speaker 1: you needs to come out of you. And when it
- 4:35Speaker 1: comes out of you, you're gonna push harder. And then
- 4:38Speaker 1: you're gonna realize some things that you didn't realize before.
- 4:40Speaker 1: You're gonna learn some things about yourself that you didn't
- 4:43Speaker 1: know before, and you're gonna see that you were stronger
- 4:46Speaker 1: than you actually thought that you were. So when I
- 4:48Speaker 1: look at all the different people that you have interviewed,
- 4:51Speaker 1: when I think about all the time so that I've
- 4:53Speaker 1: seen you and the different people that you have decided
- 4:56Speaker 1: to interview, when it comes across my desk, and as
- 4:59Speaker 1: an to put into the Bell Report, I put it
- 5:01Speaker 1: in the Bell Report with pride because I know that
- 5:04Speaker 1: you are not about buffoodery, You're not about foolishness, but
- 5:08Speaker 1: you want to make sure that not only the people
- 5:10Speaker 1: that you're interviewing that you give them an opportunity, but
- 5:13Speaker 1: you're also educating people who are listening to other people
- 5:17Speaker 1: when they are listening to you, and when they're listening
- 5:19Speaker 1: to your guests, and when your guests have something to
- 5:22Speaker 1: say that's worth listening to, it says a lot about you.
- 5:26Speaker 1: It's kind of like the people who you're interviewing, we
- 5:28Speaker 1: become an extension of you. So you're gonna make sure
- 5:30Speaker 1: whoever you interview has some sense about them to take
- 5:34Speaker 1: up this time space. Absolutely, because you're so articulate. Let's
- 5:38Speaker 1: go back with one of the courses I want to
- 5:40Speaker 1: talk about doing researching a starter, you know, a person
- 5:44Speaker 1: who started as a young person, which lead to you,
- 5:46Speaker 1: I'm sure, ridicule jokes, and sometimes that leads to bullying.
- 5:51Speaker 1: You know, there's a lot of people think the word
- 5:52Speaker 1: bully is as a modern term. I can know that
- 5:55Speaker 1: in my middle school I was bullied, bullied in my
- 5:57Speaker 1: high school, use I was bullied, just didn't understand and
- 6:00Speaker 1: and I just know that I just said, they picked
- 6:02Speaker 1: on me, mom, they're picking on me at school. That's
- 6:04Speaker 1: the term I used instead of the word bullying. These
- 6:06Speaker 1: kids picking on me. So, as a young stutterer, how
- 6:09Speaker 1: did you deal with that and how did you overcome
- 6:11Speaker 1: it to be so articulate and so mindful and so
- 6:14Speaker 1: motivational Today, if you're talking to the the young millennials
- 6:20Speaker 1: and the GENETU, you would say it's a God thing.
- 6:22Speaker 1: But if you want to be real about it, God
- 6:25Speaker 1: healed me from what I was going through. I was
- 6:27Speaker 1: in the first, second and third grade, and the stuttering
- 6:30Speaker 1: was so bad it would take me a good two
- 6:34Speaker 1: or three minutes to articulate three or four or five
- 6:37Speaker 1: words just to say. Back in the day when we
- 6:40Speaker 1: were in school, sometimes the teacher would say, hey, Sheil,
- 6:43Speaker 1: would you go to miss harris room and give her
- 6:46Speaker 1: this message? The message maybe tell miss Harris that we're
- 6:49Speaker 1: going to be going outside to play on the playground
- 6:52Speaker 1: at twelve o'clock. So, because they knew I stuttered, and
- 6:56Speaker 1: because my mom also taught in the same school that
- 7:00Speaker 1: we were in, they were trying to help me to
- 7:03Speaker 1: get out of it, to get out of that zone
- 7:05Speaker 1: of not feeling comfortable around people. Because even then, while
- 7:09Speaker 1: it was stuttering, I was also extremely shy. So by
- 7:12Speaker 1: the time I left the first grade and went up
- 7:14Speaker 1: to the second floor and I would tell Mrs Harris
- 7:18Speaker 1: the message. The message sort of went like this, ms
- 7:22Speaker 1: ms mss ms mss mss mss mss Harris, Miss, miss miss,
- 7:26Speaker 1: and it went on like that. So you're trying to
- 7:29Speaker 1: deliver this message, you got other kids looking at you
- 7:32Speaker 1: like what is the problem. And this went on, and
- 7:36Speaker 1: my mom tried to work with me. We would read
- 7:39Speaker 1: books on the front porch. She would try to get
- 7:41Speaker 1: me to calm down. But after the first, second and
- 7:44Speaker 1: third grade, third grade, I was told that I was
- 7:46Speaker 1: going to be going to a middle school for the
- 7:48Speaker 1: fourth grade. So the day that we were waiting for
- 7:52Speaker 1: the yellow cheese bus to come down the street to
- 7:55Speaker 1: pick us up to get on this bus to go
- 7:57Speaker 1: to Robert E. Lee Middle School, I heard this voice.
- 8:03Speaker 1: On going into the fourth grade, I heard this voice
- 8:05Speaker 1: that said, slow down. They will hear you. Slow down.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And I remember just thinking I'm hearing a voice. I
- 8:13Speaker 1: don't know where this voice is coming from, but it's
- 8:16Speaker 1: telling me to slow down. And something within me, maybe
- 8:19Speaker 1: down in my shanana, that told me to slow it down.
- 8:23Speaker 1: And once I got that in my spirit and understood
- 8:27Speaker 1: when I walked on that yellow bus. I no longer studied.
- 8:31Speaker 1: It was just like that. It was just like that.
- 8:33Speaker 1: A blessing, It was just like that. And and now
- 8:37Speaker 1: when you look at your life now, you're in the
- 8:38Speaker 1: creative side, journalistic side, media side, because that that that
- 8:45Speaker 1: ability to translate information is what your gift is. Promote
- 8:49Speaker 1: information what your gift is. Now, let's let's set that
- 8:53Speaker 1: in the world. We have a president who came into
- 8:55Speaker 1: office in and established a term called faith news, and
- 9:00Speaker 1: as he exits, that's all he's about, is creating fake news.
- 9:05Speaker 1: When you review information like that, how has it impacted
- 9:09Speaker 1: how you report things, how you deliver information to our community.
- 9:13Speaker 1: What has helped me over the years to even have
- 9:15Speaker 1: the brand that I have today and to report the
- 9:18Speaker 1: news that I have today is integrity. And for years,
- 9:23Speaker 1: every time when I would write a story, I had
- 9:25Speaker 1: to learn really early that there are two sides to
- 9:28Speaker 1: the story. You can always write the story the way
- 9:30Speaker 1: that you want to write the story to favor the
- 9:32Speaker 1: person who you like, but you have to remember that
- 9:35Speaker 1: there are two sides to the story. So in being fair,
- 9:38Speaker 1: I've always been fair to everyone who I deal with. Integrity,
- 9:42Speaker 1: your name goes a long way. So even when I'm
- 9:45Speaker 1: on the air now, I praise one or four point seven,
- 9:48Speaker 1: when I'm writing stories up on the Bell Report, when
- 9:51Speaker 1: I'm pushing stuff out on the Bell Report, Entertainment News Update,
- 9:54Speaker 1: when I'm having a conversation, if I'm in the pulpit,
- 9:57Speaker 1: if I'm ministering, if I'm talking, if someone just a
- 10:00Speaker 1: proaches me, It's about being true to who you are
- 10:03Speaker 1: so you can be true to other people. Sometimes it's
- 10:05Speaker 1: even about being transparent so people can know that you're
- 10:08Speaker 1: not trying to hide anything. So when the facts do
- 10:11Speaker 1: come out and when you see what is going on
- 10:13Speaker 1: for what it is, you just tell the truth. And
- 10:15Speaker 1: I'll never forget the day when Michael Jackson died. I
- 10:19Speaker 1: had people calling me and it shocked me. They said, Belle,
- 10:24Speaker 1: we're calling you because we know if you say that
- 10:27Speaker 1: he died, then we know that he died. Because we're
- 10:31Speaker 1: just not trusting the other media. We just can't we
- 10:33Speaker 1: just can't believe it. And I'm thinking to myself, I'm
- 10:36Speaker 1: watching CNN and ms NBC and and be just like
- 10:40Speaker 1: everyone else trying to figure out what's going on. But
- 10:42Speaker 1: they were trusting me with that, But it spoke volume
- 10:45Speaker 1: to me realizing that people are trusting me with information,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and when people trust you to tell the truth, and
- 10:50Speaker 1: when you think about the world that we're living and
- 10:52Speaker 1: now people want to have a relationship with people who
- 10:56Speaker 1: can tell the truth because often people will twist it.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Look social media, I'm looking at how social media has
- 11:03Speaker 1: played mind games with people as people have gotten so
- 11:07Speaker 1: caught up trying to be something that they're not trying
- 11:10Speaker 1: to please people for a like or coming just so
- 11:13Speaker 1: they can do whatever it is that they're trying to do.
- 11:15Speaker 1: And I'm like, be real to yourself. There's too many
- 11:17Speaker 1: games out here mentally, emotionally, spiritually. When do you find
- 11:22Speaker 1: the time to back up to find out who you
- 11:24Speaker 1: are and being true to yourself. If you can't be
- 11:26Speaker 1: true to yourself, you can't be true to other people.
- 11:29Speaker 1: And I really pride myself on doing the best that
- 11:32Speaker 1: I can to be honest and being truthful. Well, the
- 11:34Speaker 1: thing I love about your whole A presentation is that
- 11:37Speaker 1: it's about branding. It's about marketing and UH and brand association.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I remember when Steve when I first started. I first
- 11:45Speaker 1: I met Steven eighties six, when I was a stand
- 11:47Speaker 1: up comment I was headlining. He was my opening that
- 11:50Speaker 1: and didn't they need to you know, Deaf Comedy Jam
- 11:53Speaker 1: came through town and he was headlining the show. That
- 11:56Speaker 1: asked me to come down and do a set. And
- 11:57Speaker 1: he would always see his name on stage, Steve Harvest.
- 12:01Speaker 1: It is was Steve Harvey, Steve Harvey, Steve. He was
- 12:04Speaker 1: constantly branding himself and name recognition. If you didn't know
- 12:08Speaker 1: what's performing, he's gonna tell you. So the be All Report,
- 12:12Speaker 1: when I see the Bell Report that every time is
- 12:14Speaker 1: your last name? Is part of the Brandy process. Tell
- 12:18Speaker 1: us how that came about, the whole magazine and also
- 12:21Speaker 1: the Bill Report name the All Report. It's such a
- 12:28Speaker 1: gift from God and how it came into fruition. It's
- 12:32Speaker 1: it's pretty uh. Years ago, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen years ago now,
- 12:37Speaker 1: my cousin Kevin was riding his motorcycle out in Charlottesville.
- 12:42Speaker 1: He had a motorcycle accident. His mom called and she said, Sheila,
- 12:46Speaker 1: let the family know what's going on with Kevin, because
- 12:49Speaker 1: what happened with him the motorcycle accident. He slid a
- 12:52Speaker 1: tree branch limb went through his eye. His son was
- 12:57Speaker 1: behind him following him, and his son got involved in
- 13:02Speaker 1: the same accident, but his son was not to really hurt.
- 13:05Speaker 1: They met like him to the University of Virginia hospital.
- 13:08Speaker 1: And while all this is going on, I'm now keeping
- 13:11Speaker 1: the family, the Bell family of where of what's going on.
- 13:14Speaker 1: So what I had to figure out. That's when the
- 13:16Speaker 1: Internet was still pretty new, and I had to figure out, okay,
- 13:20Speaker 1: just put something on it. So I said, hey, hey,
- 13:22Speaker 1: this is the Bell Report for the family. So I
- 13:25Speaker 1: kept updating people what was going on, because I was
- 13:27Speaker 1: still doing news at that time of another radio station
- 13:30Speaker 1: at another TV station. I was updating people what was
- 13:33Speaker 1: going on. And as he got better, I remember that
- 13:37Speaker 1: was an event that was going on in the city
- 13:39Speaker 1: and I said, hey, by the way, Kevin, if you're
- 13:40Speaker 1: feeling a little bit better, there's an event that we
- 13:42Speaker 1: can go to. And he said, hey, that's pretty cool.
- 13:46Speaker 1: He got better, and then a couple of days later
- 13:48Speaker 1: I said, I found out there were two more things
- 13:50Speaker 1: that's going on. So this went off all about a
- 13:52Speaker 1: good week and a half and somebody in the family
- 13:55Speaker 1: sent that Bell Report to somebody else and it started
- 13:58Speaker 1: to float in a About two or three weeks later,
- 14:01Speaker 1: I got an email from a friend of mine in
- 14:03Speaker 1: the industry who said, Hey, I understand that you're sending
- 14:06Speaker 1: out a newsletter or something. Can you send out this
- 14:09Speaker 1: event as well? And here are five hundred additional emails
- 14:14Speaker 1: that you can also have and distribute this to as well.
- 14:17Speaker 1: So a lilife bub went off that made me think, alrighty,
- 14:21Speaker 1: I don't think they want to hear about my cousin.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Let me split these and keep the Bell Report for
- 14:26Speaker 1: the Bell Report for the family, and make the other
- 14:28Speaker 1: one the Bell Report for everyone else. And initially started
- 14:32Speaker 1: with the split with the Bell Report, that stayed the
- 14:34Speaker 1: way that that was. But when it came for the
- 14:36Speaker 1: Bell Report for the industry, I started to try to
- 14:38Speaker 1: find information about what was going on and what was interesting.
- 14:42Speaker 1: We didn't have the type of websites with all the
- 14:45Speaker 1: information that we have now. So I would drive from Richmond,
- 14:49Speaker 1: Virginia to Washington, d c. And pick up all the
- 14:52Speaker 1: ethnic newspapers at Howard University to find out all the
- 14:56Speaker 1: different events that were going on. And I have to
- 14:59Speaker 1: call these people to find out And then it became
- 15:01Speaker 1: like a community calendar of all these different events that
- 15:03Speaker 1: what's going on and them having reporting skills. Then you
- 15:07Speaker 1: start to go to the different events and you start
- 15:10Speaker 1: interviewing people, and you start taking pictures, and before you
- 15:13Speaker 1: know at the Bell Report became two separate entities. And
- 15:17Speaker 1: then I had family members who said, take me off
- 15:19Speaker 1: the other Bell Report, just keep me on the other
- 15:20Speaker 1: family Bell Report. And it just started to grow from
- 15:23Speaker 1: there and it has been growing ever since. And I
- 15:25Speaker 1: think that we do well because we try to make
- 15:28Speaker 1: sure that we're not sending out emails all day long.
- 15:32Speaker 1: We do have the website, but people want that email
- 15:34Speaker 1: directly to their email front door, so we send it
- 15:37Speaker 1: out late at night. We send it out in the
- 15:39Speaker 1: noon day around twelve noon, just twice a day. But
- 15:43Speaker 1: if you were to print it out, it's maybe anywhere
- 15:45Speaker 1: from eighteen to twenty two pages of information that's going
- 15:48Speaker 1: on to the gospel community, from what's happening with the
- 15:52Speaker 1: record labels, the gospel artists, the conventions, whatever is going on.
- 15:55Speaker 1: People call me, send me stuff to publicists, and what
- 15:59Speaker 1: the beauty is about the Bell Report? Which is why
- 16:01Speaker 1: no God gave this coming. You have all this information
- 16:05Speaker 1: out there, people have websites, people are over the place,
- 16:09Speaker 1: but how do people know how to get to your website.
- 16:13Speaker 1: How do they know that if you if you're trying
- 16:15Speaker 1: to publish it. So I'm like, hey, the Bell Report
- 16:18Speaker 1: goes to everybody, and people have gotten so mentally lazy.
- 16:22Speaker 1: If you will give me what I can get and
- 16:25Speaker 1: just send it to my email. So by sending it
- 16:27Speaker 1: to the email, it's right there, everything that you need,
- 16:30Speaker 1: everything that you want. And we also put links and
- 16:32Speaker 1: other things and the reports if people want to go there.
- 16:35Speaker 1: But the Bell Report has done really well. It's a
- 16:37Speaker 1: blessing from God. Even told me how to make a
- 16:40Speaker 1: couple of coins from it. And when I'm pushing it
- 16:42Speaker 1: out and it helps pay my bills, and I thank

- 19:03Speaker 1: You know this is a great story, um, and you
- 19:06Speaker 1: do speak of God and He prepares you. All Right,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna share stories. It's going to be relatable to you.
- 19:12Speaker 1: In I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and and it
- 19:21Speaker 1: really was a game changing for me mentally because I
- 19:25Speaker 1: wouldn't expecting that if the fact that I've done my
- 19:27Speaker 1: annual exam in December and with the dentists and my
- 19:32Speaker 1: doctor and everything was good, and it was I walked
- 19:36Speaker 1: into the bloodwork and the doctor who was doing the
- 19:41Speaker 1: bloodwork said, can I just to touch your throat, touch
- 19:44Speaker 1: your neck, you know, just something that wasn't normal. And
- 19:47Speaker 1: then she said, can I do a bopsy on this
- 19:49Speaker 1: little this little lump right here? And she did the
- 19:52Speaker 1: bobos to turn out to be cancerous. And I always
- 19:56Speaker 1: tell people when somebody tells you the worry cancer, I
- 20:01Speaker 1: don't care where you're in life. It shut you down mentally.
- 20:05Speaker 1: I mean death immasiately takes upon your spirit. Uh, it's
- 20:09Speaker 1: a sense of a sense of you know, they I
- 20:12Speaker 1: don't tell how many times they can tell you where
- 20:14Speaker 1: you know the survival rates good, It doesn't. It doesn't
- 20:16Speaker 1: click with you at all. But when I didn't tell
- 20:20Speaker 1: my family right away because I wanted to take all
- 20:22Speaker 1: this in and it was it was really when I
- 20:24Speaker 1: realized that, you know, faith prepares you for an opportunity
- 20:28Speaker 1: to ascend that or perspective of your life. And I
- 20:32Speaker 1: would tell you this mill I walked away with that situation.
- 20:36Speaker 1: When I finally to my family, because I was very
- 20:38Speaker 1: comfortable where my life was at at that point, and
- 20:41Speaker 1: I'm still comfortable to day that. You know, you know,
- 20:43Speaker 1: you look at your life, whatever you accomplished, you're a
- 20:46Speaker 1: good person. Have you done things unselfishly in life? Have
- 20:49Speaker 1: you enabled other people to achieve? Have you reached your
- 20:53Speaker 1: goals or you're achieving your goals? Are you living the
- 20:55Speaker 1: life that you want to live? And I was just
- 20:58Speaker 1: checking off all these boxes and I was, you know,
- 21:01Speaker 1: I wasn't ready to check out, but if I was
- 21:03Speaker 1: going to check out, I was comfortable with the process.
- 21:08Speaker 1: And that's where I met with my life. And I
- 21:09Speaker 1: try to tell everybody you know, don't hold off any
- 21:12Speaker 1: opportunity or a dream possibility. And so when I read
- 21:16Speaker 1: about you being diagnosed in twenty sixteen, I want you
- 21:19Speaker 1: to share your experience on my show because I try
- 21:22Speaker 1: to be very honest with you. This is my experience,
- 21:24Speaker 1: but everybody has a different experience because it's so impactful.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I lost my sister to breast cancer, so I know
- 21:30Speaker 1: what it can do to you, and I can devastate
- 21:32Speaker 1: a family and take away somebody you love the most.
- 21:35Speaker 1: But it happened to me and I was able to
- 21:38Speaker 1: deal with it. Professionally because that's what it was. It
- 21:40Speaker 1: was a professional moment for me to be able to
- 21:43Speaker 1: deal with it because I put my life in perspective
- 21:45Speaker 1: and I've never ever gotten up saying what I could
- 21:49Speaker 1: not do. I just tried to do it, and I
- 21:51Speaker 1: tried to do it at And that's my story and
- 21:54Speaker 1: that's my life, and that's why I live it every day,
- 21:56Speaker 1: and that's why I created this money making conversation platform
- 21:59Speaker 1: so I and talk to amazing people like you because
- 22:01Speaker 1: your story is inspirational. Were important that you get to
- 22:04Speaker 1: share it on the platform that thousands of people can hear.
- 22:09Speaker 1: It's well, like you said, it's amazing when you get
- 22:12Speaker 1: diagnosed or something like that, you are never prepared for it.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And when I initially got that test and they let
- 22:19Speaker 1: me even back up, when I was at the radio station,
- 22:22Speaker 1: they were talking about having healthfare and somebody said, you know,
- 22:25Speaker 1: they're gonna be doing mammograms there and I had not
- 22:28Speaker 1: had one, had not, But when I was invited to go,
- 22:33Speaker 1: I knew when I went, my life was gonna change.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I just I just knew it. And I went that Saturday.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I walked up those three steps. There was a young
- 22:41Speaker 1: lady sitting in that little lab area of a I
- 22:43Speaker 1: call it the Mamma Grandma Bill because it was a
- 22:46Speaker 1: mobile that was there. There was a young lady sitting
- 22:49Speaker 1: there and when I walked and I looked at her,
- 22:50Speaker 1: I said, my life will never be the same, and
- 22:53Speaker 1: she just looked at me and tilted her head. They
- 22:56Speaker 1: called me back. They did three or four images. They said, well,
- 23:00Speaker 1: call you, there's something wrong. Wednesday they called. They said,
- 23:03Speaker 1: we found some crystallization and I had to go to
- 23:06Speaker 1: the hospital to further that. I went to the University
- 23:09Speaker 1: of Virginia, which is where I got everything originally done
- 23:11Speaker 1: because I didn't want to really deal with it here
- 23:13Speaker 1: where I am Richmond. When I got there and they
- 23:16Speaker 1: started taking images, I think by the time they were
- 23:19Speaker 1: on image number twelve or thirteen and started to get real,
- 23:23Speaker 1: I said, okay, and I started to get some emotions there.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Then they wanted to take a biopsy. And when they
- 23:29Speaker 1: took the biopsy and the doctor looked at some things
- 23:31Speaker 1: and I said, do we have a problem. He says,
- 23:33Speaker 1: we have a problem. So we gat through that. And
- 23:36Speaker 1: when I got through that and I went outside, that
- 23:39Speaker 1: was that one moment when I had to sit down
- 23:41Speaker 1: and get myself together. I had to process it and
- 23:45Speaker 1: to mentally figure out what I'm gonna do and mentally
- 23:48Speaker 1: make some decisions. How are you gonna handle this? Are
- 23:51Speaker 1: you can fall apart? Are you gonna be strong? It's
- 23:54Speaker 1: not about why. Is that God's trusting you with this assignment.
- 23:58Speaker 1: So let's handle this. Your mother passed away from bone cancer,
- 24:01Speaker 1: handle it. You are here. And after I got through that,
- 24:05Speaker 1: it was started like it was sort of like saying,
- 24:07Speaker 1: game on, let's do this. And that's the mindset that
- 24:11Speaker 1: I took. And I was supposed to have six chemotherapy treatments.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I was supposed to um through the whole nine. But well,
- 24:19Speaker 1: so interesting when you are in a position like that,
- 24:23Speaker 1: the first thing you start figuring out is Okay, I
- 24:26Speaker 1: gotta figure out how to handle this. But then when
- 24:29Speaker 1: you meet, when you meet with the doctor, you really
- 24:32Speaker 1: don't know what to ask, You don't know what to do,
- 24:36Speaker 1: you don't know how to feel, you don't know what
- 24:39Speaker 1: direction to going because you've never been in this uncharted
- 24:43Speaker 1: territory before. You're now dependent on this doctor to give
- 24:47Speaker 1: you the best advice possible what you should do, how
- 24:50Speaker 1: you should handle it. What treatment you should take. So
- 24:53Speaker 1: what they were telling me after I started digging because
- 24:56Speaker 1: I don't mind digging and getting research. But but this
- 24:58Speaker 1: doctor told me um I didn't agree with. And they
- 25:03Speaker 1: were telling me that I needed to have surgery first
- 25:05Speaker 1: and I needed to do this and that and and
- 25:08Speaker 1: and I'm I'm like, boy, I'm like, but if if
- 25:10Speaker 1: you have surgery first, and you you do have a
- 25:14Speaker 1: large I had an eight uh an eight centimeter tumor.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I said, why don't we do the chemo first to
- 25:20Speaker 1: shrink it and then do the surgery to remove it.
- 25:24Speaker 1: But then they didn't give me all the options. They
- 25:27Speaker 1: were telling me that I could have both of my
- 25:29Speaker 1: breasts removed, and it was really a mess. So after
- 25:33Speaker 1: I initially got a port in and then I had
- 25:36Speaker 1: my first chemo therapy treatment. Uh that went pretty well.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Two weeks into the first chemo treatment and I was
- 25:46Speaker 1: finding out some tightness in my chest and then the
- 25:49Speaker 1: port got infected. And after the port got infected and
- 25:52Speaker 1: I was calling the hospital and u v A and
- 25:55Speaker 1: I'm in Richmond. They were saying, when you need to
- 25:58Speaker 1: get to the emergency room. And then when I got
- 26:00Speaker 1: to the emergency room, then we found out that the
- 26:02Speaker 1: port was infected. I had a wounded infection out of
- 26:05Speaker 1: blood infection and they had to take the port out.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Then I wasn't admitted to the hospital. Then I had mercer.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Then I got out of the hospital about a week
- 26:12Speaker 1: and a half later. That I was on thinking Vica,
- 26:14Speaker 1: Marris Bank, God, whatever that drug is, for about twenty
- 26:18Speaker 1: one days. Then after that got cleared up, I went
- 26:21Speaker 1: back to treatment for my chemo, which was treatment number two. Okay,
- 26:26Speaker 1: Treatment number three was a little rough because by this
- 26:30Speaker 1: time I was going through losing weight. I was down
- 26:34Speaker 1: eighty five pounds, the hair was gone. I was also
- 26:37Speaker 1: in the middle of pulling together an event at my
- 26:40Speaker 1: church called the Gift, and that Gift helped me to
- 26:43Speaker 1: propel and push through what I was going through. The
- 26:45Speaker 1: Gift was a program that I put together that was
- 26:48Speaker 1: gonna be helping out people who were caregivers of people
- 26:50Speaker 1: who were also dealing with cancer. But that gave me
- 26:53Speaker 1: that fight, and that gave me something the focus on.
- 26:56Speaker 1: After that third treatment, though, it was just rough, but
- 26:59Speaker 1: I made it through and then we went to the
- 27:02Speaker 1: fourth treatment. At the fourth treatment, I asked them the doctor,
- 27:06Speaker 1: I said, do you think you that we might be
- 27:08Speaker 1: able to wrap this up at treatment number five. She said, well,
- 27:12Speaker 1: let's see at this time, remember they took the poor out.
- 27:17Speaker 1: So when I left the hospital this time, and now
- 27:19Speaker 1: I had a pick in my arm. So the pictures
- 27:22Speaker 1: was getting the chemotherapy treatment for the second treatment, the
- 27:25Speaker 1: third treatment, and the fourth treatment. So I'm thinking on
- 27:27Speaker 1: the fifth treatment, hey, hey, hey, we're done. We're gonna
- 27:30Speaker 1: wrap this up. When I get there for the fifth treatment,
- 27:33Speaker 1: they can't get a return on the blood. They're trying
- 27:36Speaker 1: to get a return on the blood, and then they said,
- 27:38Speaker 1: we're gonna have to take the pick out. When this happens,
- 27:43Speaker 1: this is when you have to go back and and
- 27:45Speaker 1: have a little talk with Jesus and praying that he
- 27:48Speaker 1: would make everything all right. And I had to trust
- 27:51Speaker 1: my faith to get me through this moment because at
- 27:56Speaker 1: this moment they called my doctor's back downstairs. And as
- 28:00Speaker 1: much of a fighter as I am, and the doctors realized,
- 28:03Speaker 1: I was trying to hold them to this pickline because
- 28:06Speaker 1: they already took the port out. So if you took
- 28:08Speaker 1: the port out, and I'm thinking, if you take the
- 28:10Speaker 1: pick out, what are we gonna do next? Because we
- 28:13Speaker 1: have either one or two more treatments left. So they're
- 28:17Speaker 1: looking at me. I'm looking at them, and it was
- 28:21Speaker 1: this moment of silence because I had to get it
- 28:24Speaker 1: in my head and I said, go ahead and take
- 28:28Speaker 1: the pick out, take the pick out. But it's on
- 28:32Speaker 1: the third time that I meant it and I trusted
- 28:36Speaker 1: God and I said take the pick out. And they
- 28:40Speaker 1: took the pick out. They sent me to the emergency room.
- 28:44Speaker 1: They wrapped my arm up. I went home. I got
- 28:48Speaker 1: dressed from my event, the gift at my church with
- 28:52Speaker 1: seats over three thousand people. I got there that evening.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I could barely walk. I have a black shawl wrapped
- 28:59Speaker 1: around my arm. The stuff in my arm is gradually
- 29:02Speaker 1: oozing out and crystallizing. I've got two cousins looking after
- 29:06Speaker 1: me when I walk on the pulpit that evening that
- 29:09Speaker 1: I'm so called co hosting, barely can walk. A good
- 29:13Speaker 1: chunk of my church was there who did not know
- 29:16Speaker 1: that I was going through all of this. They have
- 29:19Speaker 1: seen me MC many of concerts, host radio, TV, the
- 29:24Speaker 1: whole nine. But when I walked on that platform, there
- 29:28Speaker 1: was silence. There was you could hear people gasping, You
- 29:32Speaker 1: could hear people in shock, and I saw people cry,
- 29:36Speaker 1: and I think because I had not had a chance
- 29:38Speaker 1: to be in church about two or three months, I
- 29:40Speaker 1: was emotional. But we got through it. That was that Saturday.
- 29:45Speaker 1: It was a great program to Caitlin Carver was my
- 29:47Speaker 1: special guest. She came up with her dad and it
- 29:49Speaker 1: was just a beautiful thing. People and then ars ago,
- 30:00Speaker 1: it's crazy and she's dating a football player. Now it's crazy,
- 30:04Speaker 1: that's her personal business. Sorry, but right, so she's there.
- 30:08Speaker 1: It's just an amazing moment. We finished with the program.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Sunday comes, Monday comes. I'm going back to get this
- 30:15Speaker 1: pickline in and we realized that, okay, this is gonna happen.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Let's wait and see what the m r I does.
- 30:22Speaker 1: So we finally get clearance in the m r I.
- 30:25Speaker 1: We walked down to to the office and it was
- 30:29Speaker 1: a fireplace there. I said, I'm gonna take this picture
- 30:31Speaker 1: believing God's gonna heal me. So we walked through. We
- 30:35Speaker 1: go to the back. I'm about to get this m
- 30:37Speaker 1: r I done. The nurse she comes over to me.
- 30:40Speaker 1: She says, would you mind if I pray for you?
- 30:43Speaker 1: I said, come on, somebody. She prays for me. I
- 30:47Speaker 1: walked back. I'm laying down on this table. This is
- 30:50Speaker 1: on Monday or Tuesday. We're waiting for the phone call
- 30:54Speaker 1: to come back. The lady founding calls. Carol calls me
- 30:57Speaker 1: on Wednesday morning. I missed the call. I have to
- 31:02Speaker 1: call him back, I said, Carol. She said, Sheila, we
- 31:05Speaker 1: got the results, and her voice dropped. I'm still trusting God,
- 31:11Speaker 1: and she says, he, I want you to know that
- 31:13Speaker 1: we didn't find any cancer. All the cancer is gone.
- 31:18Speaker 1: So you have a great Christmas and you enjoy yourself.
- 31:22Speaker 1: So that what I thought right there, because I remember
- 31:26Speaker 1: when the doctor told me. The doctor told me said,
- 31:29Speaker 1: you know, because we always have the theory coming back.
- 31:31Speaker 1: But the doctor came in my room, he went, you
- 31:34Speaker 1: are you cancer free? Then he just walked out. I went,
- 31:37Speaker 1: what did he just said? Did he say he just
- 31:40Speaker 1: walked out? You know, he just said you can go
- 31:42Speaker 1: you cancer We just walked out. I went, did he
- 31:44Speaker 1: just say cancer free? Did he say a cool and clear?
- 31:48Speaker 1: I just went, I gotta confirm this again. I ran
- 31:53Speaker 1: up and down. He's all that and I just saw
- 31:54Speaker 1: I went, what did you just say? Okay? Because you
- 31:58Speaker 1: just casually said that I was cancer free. Yeah, you're
- 32:03Speaker 1: you're good. You're good, You're good. I went, thank you.
- 32:06Speaker 1: But I'm just let you know that you can't say
- 32:08Speaker 1: something like that casually. Yeah, so you know what I'm saying. So,
- 32:15Speaker 1: but people don't value They just give you information and
- 32:18Speaker 1: think is trivial, but they don't know the emotional journey
- 32:22Speaker 1: that you're on because this is life and death information
- 32:25Speaker 1: that is being given to you. So I know when
- 32:27Speaker 1: you was giving that information, it's like, oh my god,
- 32:31Speaker 1: it's just it's just real. It's your true, you said.
- 32:34Speaker 1: You start doubting yourself, you start contradicting information, and then
- 32:38Speaker 1: you have the process that is being real. So it
- 32:41Speaker 1: was a moment when they said waiting to exhale, You
- 32:44Speaker 1: finally to exhale at that moment, and I did, and
- 32:48Speaker 1: it's just amazing how you feel after that and you
- 32:51Speaker 1: have time to heal. And even I had to have radiation,
- 32:55Speaker 1: and you know, people have really bad side effects radiation.
- 32:58Speaker 1: I found a friend who knew somebody who knew somebody
- 33:00Speaker 1: who knew somebody who was making this cream up in Washington,
- 33:03Speaker 1: d C. And I said, hey, I'll take two jars.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Ever they said, put it on there before the treatment starts,
- 33:09Speaker 1: and I did that. I got less in a sun
- 33:12Speaker 1: less than a sunburn of a burnt on me from
- 33:16Speaker 1: thirty three rounds of radiation. Less. That was it. I
- 33:21Speaker 1: think God for it. God was with me through this
- 33:23Speaker 1: whole situation. And it's amazing when you were talking about
- 33:27Speaker 1: when you had to tell your family members. I remember
- 33:29Speaker 1: I told my niece and my nephew, and I thought
- 33:32Speaker 1: that I was gonna fix it up. I said, hey,
- 33:34Speaker 1: I got a little something that's going on. But the
- 33:37Speaker 1: doctor said, I'm gonna be okay. I'm thinking I'm doing
- 33:39Speaker 1: a good good job because I'm telling them the good thing.
- 33:42Speaker 1: And I tried to backtrack, and before I knew I
- 33:44Speaker 1: could hear tears so and then I heard the breakdown.
- 33:47Speaker 1: So after the niece and the nephew and the brother
- 33:49Speaker 1: and the sister, I didn't tell anybody else because it
- 33:51Speaker 1: was too much. And when family members are hearing, they're like,
- 33:54Speaker 1: not you not you see the bell Not No, It's
- 33:58Speaker 1: like people just couldn't comprehend or would not accepted. And
