- 1:24Speaker 1: My next guest was drafted in the first round taste
- 1:26Speaker 1: I'm big fan, um so I just made crush. A
- 1:28Speaker 1: lot of people own the football field. Uh at this point,
- 1:31Speaker 1: a lot of people don't think about to make first down.
- 1:33Speaker 1: He stopped him thirteen thirteen pick overall, picked by thessistant
- 1:40Speaker 1: Bengals in eight He was a two time All Pro
- 1:42Speaker 1: or two time Pro Bowl selection. Is one of only
- 1:44Speaker 1: seven linebackers in league history with more than two hundred starts.
- 1:47Speaker 1: While playing with the Bengals, Buffalo Bills, Philli, the Eagles Evers,
- 1:52Speaker 1: be Fard and out and send diego charges. He was
- 1:55Speaker 1: native captain. I love this about leadership the fifteen seasons
- 1:59Speaker 1: he was captain thirty time. That says a lot. That's
- 2:01Speaker 1: why I wanted you to bring on the show a
- 2:02Speaker 1: true testament about your leadership and the qualities you have.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And also I wanted to mention this he uh post retirement,
- 2:10Speaker 1: he's putting a emphasis on education, finishing his bachelor's degree
- 2:13Speaker 1: in Liberal Arts at Auburn and in December sixteen earning
- 2:16Speaker 1: his NBA from the university. I am Miami. Please welcome
- 2:20Speaker 1: to money making conversations, to kill spikes, my man or
- 2:26Speaker 1: that voice, that voice, making money with that voice, making
- 2:30Speaker 1: money with it, the presents, everything, everything that comes with it. Well,
- 2:33Speaker 1: let me talk about it. I got your book here.
- 2:36Speaker 1: It's it's called The Mask. Now behind the Mask, Well,
- 2:41Speaker 1: first of all, you are a helmet all your life.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Now you say the mask. Is there any reference there
- 2:45Speaker 1: are helmet mask or you just mask me something else? Yeah,
- 2:49Speaker 1: it was. I came up with the title just thinking
- 2:52Speaker 1: about every day people who used to say, you know what,
- 2:56Speaker 1: I know what you look like. But when we look
- 2:59Speaker 1: at the rest of the guy eyes, when we try
- 3:00Speaker 1: to relate to a lot of the guys who were
- 3:03Speaker 1: playing the game, we can't see you because of the mask.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And so for me that kind of triggered something in
- 3:08Speaker 1: my mind to say, you know what, I want to
- 3:11Speaker 1: go behind the mask. That's the reason why I typled
- 3:14Speaker 1: my book behind the Mask, because everybody has a story
- 3:18Speaker 1: to be told, and regardless of whatever chosen field endeavor
- 3:22Speaker 1: that you're chasing, sir, you have a mask. And so
- 3:25Speaker 1: that's why my book is titled behind the Mask, because
- 3:27Speaker 1: I wanted to go behind the mask to figure out
- 3:30Speaker 1: what makes you tick, what makes you so different? You know,
- 3:33Speaker 1: he's an interesting thing about you when I'm reading that
- 3:36Speaker 1: this is just a short portion of your life. This
- 3:38Speaker 1: is the book is more about the incredible linebackers who
- 3:41Speaker 1: have dominated there the playing fields over the year. In
- 3:44Speaker 1: your linebacker, so there was a natural relationship. And I
- 3:47Speaker 1: know your next book is gonna be running back, so
- 3:49Speaker 1: as that we may talk about that a little bit
- 3:51Speaker 1: before we leave to add the day because it's a
- 3:54Speaker 1: top three I want to bring up to your top three?
- 3:56Speaker 1: Is I hope I got now that they about this
- 4:00Speaker 1: that football is something that you understood was your path
- 4:04Speaker 1: was an opportunity. How did you figure that out at
- 4:07Speaker 1: a young age. Well, it started with my parents, and
- 4:11Speaker 1: they introduced me to the game at the age of
- 4:14Speaker 1: seven eight years old, following my brother, and Uh for me,
- 4:19Speaker 1: I thought I didn't know at that time, and a
- 4:21Speaker 1: lot of kids to this day still don't know because
- 4:24Speaker 1: we put so much weight and emphasis on winning and losing.
- 4:28Speaker 1: But the lessons that I got out of the game
- 4:31Speaker 1: playing an organized sport in the structure leadership, what you
- 4:35Speaker 1: talked about earlier, Understanding commitment, Understanding that you know your
- 4:41Speaker 1: best availability is a called accountability. If you can't be accountable,
- 4:46Speaker 1: then you can't be available. I learned all of those
- 4:49Speaker 1: life lessons through the game of football, and that's why
- 4:54Speaker 1: I feel that when I watched football. You know, I've
- 4:57Speaker 1: never played the sport I call that man's band game.
- 5:01Speaker 1: You know. I would tell people here, he is the
- 5:03Speaker 1: mentality for football player. He sees somebody running at him
- 5:06Speaker 1: at full speed instead of him running a obstractor he
- 5:09Speaker 1: you know something, I'm gonna run at him at full
- 5:11Speaker 1: speed and we're gonna meet at a point and see
- 5:13Speaker 1: who gets pushed off at that point. That's a little
- 5:16Speaker 1: man's man to meet. It's I'll be honest with you,
- 5:22Speaker 1: and I'll tell you this. I never knew how violent
- 5:26Speaker 1: the game it was until I retired in two thousand thirteen.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I actually took time. I went back and I got
- 5:34Speaker 1: and I went back and I watched the game from
- 5:37Speaker 1: the side, and I realized, this is crazy. It's crazy
- 5:41Speaker 1: to see two guys. I don't care about my body.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I know I don't care about yours. But I wanted
- 5:48Speaker 1: to make a point. I wanted to make a point
- 5:51Speaker 1: to make sure that my presence was felt, and I
- 5:54Speaker 1: made sure that I left a mark that I really
- 5:57Speaker 1: wanted to punk you. I wanted to take your soul. Well,
- 5:59Speaker 1: you know, that's important that that that we understand. We
- 6:02Speaker 1: have a little mic issue of when Mike has cut
- 6:04Speaker 1: off and we're kind of sharing the mic right now,
- 6:06Speaker 1: but I wanted to make sure that you understand that
- 6:09Speaker 1: the physicality, the whole, the whole point of what you
- 6:13Speaker 1: do as a as a person is not defined by
- 6:16Speaker 1: what you've done in football, is what you're doing after football.
- 6:19Speaker 1: That's why I wanted to bring you on the show.
- 6:21Speaker 1: But what I'm saying is that because I clearly you
- 6:23Speaker 1: are successful now in life, because you know, football was
- 6:27Speaker 1: just an avenue, it was a sport. I mean, I
- 6:30Speaker 1: mean all the way down to the trainee, the motivation,
- 6:34Speaker 1: listening to your coach, all that stuff. Man, I'm reading
- 6:39Speaker 1: this and going, wow, it was I realized at a
- 6:45Speaker 1: young age that it was it was an avenue. Like
- 6:49Speaker 1: you said, it really was a lead pad. And the
- 6:51Speaker 1: more and more I continue to play the game and
- 6:54Speaker 1: saw the bigger picture. Like I said, we put so
- 6:57Speaker 1: much weight on winning and losing while you actually play.
- 7:01Speaker 1: But I slowed down, or somebody slowed me down to
- 7:03Speaker 1: really look at the big picture of seeing how the
- 7:06Speaker 1: monster works. What exactly does that mean? What's the economics
- 7:10Speaker 1: of the game, Like, how does the economics? Why is
- 7:13Speaker 1: it that so many people were so excited to see
- 7:16Speaker 1: us play sixteen Sundays out of a year. And so
- 7:20Speaker 1: that's when I was introduced. I joined the union, and
- 7:22Speaker 1: then after joining the union, became one of the player
- 7:25Speaker 1: of representatives that carried a vote for our team, the
- 7:28Speaker 1: voice of the players. Uh. That ended up leading me
- 7:31Speaker 1: to becoming team captain thirteen out of my fifteen years,
- 7:34Speaker 1: even though I played on five different teams, and so
- 7:37Speaker 1: you know, from that, it really showed me, Okay, understand,
- 7:40Speaker 1: this is not going to be here forever. As much
- 7:43Speaker 1: as I wanted to be. But then it showed me
- 7:46Speaker 1: how can I leverage not only my name and likeness,
- 7:49Speaker 1: but what I do in this billion dollar enterprise to
- 7:53Speaker 1: be able to have sustainable income after I leave the game.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Let's talk about let's go before we go pro though.
- 8:00Speaker 1: War Eagles, War Eagles. Now, got to tell you something.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I'm from Houston, Texas, and so Texas just like Georgia
- 8:10Speaker 1: all the South. Football is king in Texas, all right,
- 8:14Speaker 1: and so so as as a as a as a
- 8:16Speaker 1: young man growing up, Arburn was a school I liked,
- 8:20Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. I went to Alabama, man
- 8:22Speaker 1: Or I was. I was Arbor. Now, I tell you
- 8:25Speaker 1: Arbur was the school I like, you know what I'm saying,
- 8:27Speaker 1: and so so I I don't know what it was.
- 8:30Speaker 1: It was just something about the war Eagle. So tell
- 8:32Speaker 1: me as as you being recruited all over couple you
- 8:34Speaker 1: know you you you blue chip, you blue chip? What
- 8:37Speaker 1: attracts you to the war, And tell us about that
- 8:39Speaker 1: experience that so many kids have been that. Now you
- 8:42Speaker 1: know today with social media, they make an announcements on TV,
- 8:46Speaker 1: they make an announcemal on social media. It's just like
- 8:48Speaker 1: that boy Zion Willism. He has over two million Instagram follows.
- 8:52Speaker 1: He didn even got into the pros yet, So you
- 8:55Speaker 1: didn't live under that world. Tell us the difference. The
- 8:59Speaker 1: difference now it's crazy and you talk about blue Chip.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I don't even know if they still consider those guys
- 9:06Speaker 1: now today coming out of high school blue chippers. If
- 9:09Speaker 1: you were considered a blue Chipper back in the nineties
- 9:11Speaker 1: to early two thousand's, that means you were the you
- 9:15Speaker 1: were that guy like you were that guy. So uh,
- 9:19Speaker 1: unbelievable experience because I had the opportunity to not only
- 9:23Speaker 1: get recruited by one of the finest institutions out there,
- 9:26Speaker 1: but being recruited by everybody across the landing Auburn, Florida State,
- 9:32Speaker 1: My top my top five teams was Florida State, Tennessee, Georgia,
- 9:38Speaker 1: um Um, Charlie, Yeah, all of that. So all of that.
- 9:47Speaker 1: So for me, it was a big honor to be
- 9:50Speaker 1: recruited like that. But I really would say this, I
- 9:53Speaker 1: think now when you look at compared to when I
- 9:56Speaker 1: came out to now and you see these high school players,
- 9:59Speaker 1: they're getting cover pages of ESPN, the magazine of every
- 10:04Speaker 1: major publication. So for me, when I look at it.
- 10:06Speaker 1: The difference is I knew I was good, but I
- 10:10Speaker 1: never wanted to kind of rest on my lord, and
- 10:13Speaker 1: that forced me to make me. It put my mind
- 10:16Speaker 1: set to I never knew how good I really was
- 10:19Speaker 1: because every morning when I woke up, I was always
- 10:22Speaker 1: chasting greatness. I wanted to do something different. I wanted
- 10:25Speaker 1: my story to be told a little different when it
- 10:28Speaker 1: was finally over. Now, your special dude, I'm gonna just
- 10:30Speaker 1: let you know that there's a certain gene in you
- 10:33Speaker 1: that makes you unique. I just I can hear in
- 10:36Speaker 1: your voice and I don't I don't want to say
- 10:38Speaker 1: nothing negative, but I feel that, uh that, uh, you
- 10:43Speaker 1: have a an emotion that that that just drives you.
- 10:48Speaker 1: That's not normal. That's why I'm saying it's not you
- 10:50Speaker 1: know people say not normal. It's not negative because I
- 10:53Speaker 1: think you're driven by something that's that's been instilled in
- 10:56Speaker 1: you as as a as a kid. Who who were
- 10:59Speaker 1: the people who mentored you? I think mine. I don't
- 11:04Speaker 1: think I actually know every day when I woke up
- 11:07Speaker 1: a something my mother, my father. I was fortunate enough
- 11:10Speaker 1: to grow up in a two parents home, and my
- 11:13Speaker 1: father worked a all the time. And my mother, she
- 11:16Speaker 1: was an educated school teacher, so you know, for me,
- 11:19Speaker 1: it was like I hear them talking. It's one thing
- 11:23Speaker 1: as a kid to hear what somebody tells you every day,
- 11:27Speaker 1: but it's another thing to see it. And I had
- 11:29Speaker 1: the opportunity, blessed to have the opportunity for my mother,
- 11:32Speaker 1: my father to show me what the grind looks like.
- 11:35Speaker 1: People talk about the grind they got here hustling. I
- 11:39Speaker 1: saw it every guy you know, And people ask me
- 11:42Speaker 1: to this day now like well why do you do
- 11:44Speaker 1: Why do you work so hard? Why do you keep
- 11:46Speaker 1: going on uh different shows? Why why do you do
- 11:49Speaker 1: this and that? Because I'm programmed that way, like I don't.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I never rest on my lords, and I truly believe
- 11:56Speaker 1: that I hustle now as if I never made a
- 12:00Speaker 1: dollar plan. And that's I have great admiration for what
- 12:05Speaker 1: you do. You know so and how your family your
- 12:08Speaker 1: success is going back to Steve Harvey all of that man,
- 12:11Speaker 1: big admiration. So that's why I do what I do well.
- 12:14Speaker 1: The thing about it And thank you, thank you. My
- 12:15Speaker 1: wife always in when people compliment you, please said thank
- 12:18Speaker 1: you because I'm I'm kind of love a person that
- 12:22Speaker 1: I'm not. I don't do this show about me. I
- 12:23Speaker 1: do it about you. I do about exposing. But God
- 12:26Speaker 1: has given me the tentacles to be able to how
- 12:29Speaker 1: people respect and feeling when they come on this show.
- 12:31Speaker 1: It has value to their brain, has value to their career.
- 12:34Speaker 1: When we come back, we're gonna talk about this book,
- 12:37Speaker 1: The Mask, because he got some linebackers in here. Man,
- 12:40Speaker 1: they've never tackled me because I was afraid. I just
- 12:47Speaker 1: Reashart McDonald. How you doing? You're listening to the money
- 12:49Speaker 1: making conversation. I was a friend of mine when I
- 12:51Speaker 1: when I was leaving office, I said, I said, I said,
- 12:55Speaker 1: Lisa Browne, I said, how do you say his first name? Oh?
- 12:58Speaker 1: You so you can't keep Let's see the key. I'll
- 13:03Speaker 1: just calling Spikes. So your name, man, where did you
- 13:07Speaker 1: get that name from? Man, it's a history behind that name,
- 13:10Speaker 1: history behind the name. Because let's talk about that name.
- 13:12Speaker 1: First whore we start this interview, Let's talk about that
- 13:14Speaker 1: the origin of that name. The origin of my name
- 13:17Speaker 1: is is Japanese and my mother, when I was born,
- 13:24Speaker 1: she wanted to name me after my father. My father
- 13:26Speaker 1: his name is Jimmy Lee Spikes. And he said no,
- 13:30Speaker 1: I don't want him named after me. And she said
- 13:32Speaker 1: why and he said, well, my name is too old
- 13:36Speaker 1: time and I want him to have a name that
- 13:40Speaker 1: represents him and and it's in there now, and so
- 13:43Speaker 1: she said she didn't know. So I was like, hi, Like,
- 13:46Speaker 1: I was like, man, how did you pick my name?
- 13:48Speaker 1: He was like, I'll be honest. Switch when I waited
- 13:50Speaker 1: four days in the hospital and I was looking at
- 13:54Speaker 1: TV and I saw the Prime Minister of Japan get
- 13:57Speaker 1: up and speak on TV. And she was like, I
- 13:59Speaker 1: didn't know how to say it, but I just thought
- 14:01Speaker 1: it was so cool and it felt like royalty. And
- 14:04Speaker 1: so she said she looked up what it meant and
- 14:06Speaker 1: the name te Kyo I was named after the Prime
- 14:08Speaker 1: Minister te Kyo Mackay, and it meant great warriors. That's
- 14:13Speaker 1: how smooth, right, Jeff. So I was like, it is,
- 14:20Speaker 1: and so that's how I got my name. That's awesome, man,
- 14:22Speaker 1: that's that's a great story. I wanted to make sure
- 14:24Speaker 1: we brought that out because you know, I've been watching
- 14:26Speaker 1: you play all those years. I go, how do you
- 14:28Speaker 1: get that name? How do you get that name? And
- 14:30Speaker 1: that that's because that was always a great story that's
- 14:32Speaker 1: a that's a great passion behind it, because it was
- 14:35Speaker 1: a great thought put into it. And then you've carried
- 14:37Speaker 1: it well. And the name does make your name done.
- 14:40Speaker 1: And your father was right, Your father was right. This
- 14:42Speaker 1: name right here is you. It is how I do
- 14:46Speaker 1: believe if you had a different name, not saying you
- 14:47Speaker 1: wouldn't been successful, but it gives you a little bit
- 14:50Speaker 1: more pipping your step. I believe that people look at
- 14:53Speaker 1: you different, they ask questions about your name. It allows
- 14:55Speaker 1: you to have that story, to allow you to be
- 14:58Speaker 1: able to communicate it. It's turned you into a municator.
- 15:01Speaker 1: It has, it really has. And not only does it
- 15:03Speaker 1: opens up the conversation, but to your point, you asked
- 15:07Speaker 1: me why I go around and I meet kids every day,
- 15:09Speaker 1: especially when I do autograph sign and when I come
- 15:12Speaker 1: across the name that I haven't seen you like how
- 15:16Speaker 1: like why? Like who named you? And and and what's
- 15:18Speaker 1: the why behind it? So what sparks up a lot
- 15:21Speaker 1: of conversations. I know I get there with Rashawn, so
- 15:23Speaker 1: I know if I had been Ricky, I've been different. Rashawn, Yeah, yeah,
- 15:31Speaker 1: Royal living good. So let's talk about this book man,
- 15:35Speaker 1: the Mask. Uh? First, of all, I'm a football nut,
- 15:38Speaker 1: you know. And in high school, junior high, they's called
- 15:41Speaker 1: me black high sale. And so when I see they
- 15:44Speaker 1: see Chuck ben Derrick, that's she had that name right there.
- 15:48Speaker 1: And Dick La Bolt name in here right there. That's
- 15:51Speaker 1: that's some deep that's some legendary names right there. And
- 15:55Speaker 1: then you got Bobby Belle, Kansas City chief who him
- 15:59Speaker 1: and Willing in there said, both of them boys, tell
- 16:01Speaker 1: you something important. This book is from an African Americans perspective,
- 16:06Speaker 1: because see back in the day, you knew that white
- 16:09Speaker 1: players were only reserved for certain positions. You know, middle
- 16:12Speaker 1: linebacker you had to be white, center you had to
- 16:16Speaker 1: be white, and quarterback you had to be white. So
- 16:18Speaker 1: Willing there was my first, I'm gonna tell you so,
- 16:21Speaker 1: my first hero because he played that position. You know
- 16:25Speaker 1: what I'm saying. So, no of the importance of this
- 16:27Speaker 1: book when you start, when you start lining up everybody,
- 16:30Speaker 1: when you start doing what you've done, you know, and
- 16:32Speaker 1: then you go Carnelia has been at the Alabama boy,
- 16:35Speaker 1: I forgive him books for state. Harry Corson New York Giants,
- 16:40Speaker 1: come on, London, Fletcher Washington, Reds Kids, Kevin Green Carolina Path,
- 16:44Speaker 1: Ted Hempson, Oakland, Raising the Start the Star, Ricky Jackson,
- 16:48Speaker 1: New Orleans, willing there, Mike Singretary the eyes, the eyes though,
- 16:57Speaker 1: brother be the eyes. And then you why did you
- 17:04Speaker 1: do this book and why did you focus on linebackers?
- 17:08Speaker 1: I focused on linebackers because my concept of behind the
- 17:12Speaker 1: Mask it had no intentions of having these other cast
- 17:16Speaker 1: members on, these other great men, great leaders. But the
- 17:22Speaker 1: more I thought about it, and the more I saw
- 17:25Speaker 1: a gap. I think in anything that you do, money
- 17:28Speaker 1: making conversations, whenever you want to meet somebody, everybody has
- 17:32Speaker 1: a need and you have to find that need. And
- 17:34Speaker 1: so the need that I saw was when I was
- 17:36Speaker 1: hearing their stories told, and some of their stories being told,
- 17:41Speaker 1: it was either either diluted or it was not told
- 17:44Speaker 1: to the extent with the passion that it deserved. And
- 17:48Speaker 1: so for me, I was like, you know what, this
- 17:50Speaker 1: is not only will I share my story, I'm gonna
- 17:52Speaker 1: go around an interview every guy, and every linebacker comes
- 17:55Speaker 1: from a different decade. Absolutely, you talked about Willie Laniers
- 18:00Speaker 1: in the history of the game. This is not just
- 18:02Speaker 1: a football book. It's a book about leadership. It's a
- 18:05Speaker 1: book about perseverance. It's a book about discipline, and I
- 18:09Speaker 1: picked a guy out of very decade to share their
- 18:12Speaker 1: story of how did they become great? What made you
- 18:15Speaker 1: an outlie? What was that defining moment when you were
- 18:18Speaker 1: a kid and you said, you know what, I am
- 18:21Speaker 1: going to sacrifice everything for an idea or a dream
- 18:26Speaker 1: that I have. And I went, I visited every guy
- 18:29Speaker 1: for a two year time period, spent the day with them,
- 18:32Speaker 1: and I got their story of their defining moment. And
- 18:35Speaker 1: so when you look through the book and you read
- 18:37Speaker 1: the stories, the stories drives the images, and the images
- 18:41Speaker 1: drives the story. So I I just thought it was
- 18:43Speaker 1: a great way for me to be able to not
- 18:46Speaker 1: only share their story, but allow them to be the
- 18:48Speaker 1: author of their own autobiography. Well, I think it's important
- 18:51Speaker 1: that the story is important. Like I was telling you,
- 18:53Speaker 1: how each one of these stories affected me are still
- 18:56Speaker 1: affect me because of the fact that you know, when
- 18:59Speaker 1: you when you're going through life, man and you and
- 19:02Speaker 1: it's different now, you know, because they they can see
- 19:05Speaker 1: social media, they see kids are seeing people, and they
- 19:08Speaker 1: think that athletes have this or this writer of passage
- 19:11Speaker 1: all their lives, you know, and sometimes and then there's
- 19:13Speaker 1: certain things that happened. They check it. You know, you
- 19:15Speaker 1: still from the athlete, okay. And and when I when
- 19:19Speaker 1: I look at what you're doing with this book, like
- 19:22Speaker 1: you said, as different errors. When I when I see
- 19:24Speaker 1: there Brooks, such a humble, humble person, you know what
- 19:26Speaker 1: I'm saying. And the and the and the great Harry
- 19:29Speaker 1: Carston who played with LT and the Giants, with those
- 19:32Speaker 1: those great giant teams and Fletchers small compact or fearsome force.
- 19:37Speaker 1: When you look at all these linebackers, these great linebackers,
- 19:40Speaker 1: what do you fall athletically like I took a little
- 19:43Speaker 1: bit of this. I I symbolize this type of facana
- 19:47Speaker 1: or this type of physicality when you start line up
- 19:50Speaker 1: these linebackers. When I look at every guy, to me,
- 19:53Speaker 1: I split it down the middle one side, It's like
- 19:56Speaker 1: what treats do? I see what they have and how
- 20:00Speaker 1: can I incorporate that until my game? And you know,
- 20:04Speaker 1: I look at Chuck bay Nay. He was the last
- 20:07Speaker 1: of the sixty minute men, meaning he played both ways,
- 20:11Speaker 1: offense and the defensive side. Concrete Charlie was his nickname.
- 20:16Speaker 1: So for me, I wanted to be hard like Concrete Charlie.
- 20:19Speaker 1: You know, when I think about Mike Singletary, nobody ever
- 20:23Speaker 1: can recreate or try to. You know, well, they say,
- 20:28Speaker 1: uh impersonation is the best form of flattery. But Mike
- 20:32Speaker 1: sing for me, it took me to get like fierce
- 20:35Speaker 1: mad to even come close to his eyes. And I
- 20:38Speaker 1: still didn't accomplish that. But the intimidation factor of Mike
- 20:41Speaker 1: Singletary is what I really appreciated. Um. I look at
- 20:46Speaker 1: Derrick Brooks. You know, a lot of people don't know,
- 20:50Speaker 1: but Derrick Brooks, how you say, humble, reserve guy, but
- 20:53Speaker 1: his faith jumps out more than anything. And he didn't
- 20:57Speaker 1: care about necessarily football sports itself, but his family. His
- 21:01Speaker 1: faith was so strong that it led him to the
- 21:03Speaker 1: game of football, and that would really propel him to
- 21:06Speaker 1: be the Hall of Fame of that the year is today.
- 21:09Speaker 1: So from all of those attributes that these guys had,
- 21:12Speaker 1: I kind of picked a little bit from everybody. And
- 21:14Speaker 1: you know, and and and it was very fun to
- 21:16Speaker 1: hear this story. I agree because I had the humbleness
- 21:20Speaker 1: that tone. Derrek Brookish, you know what I'm saying. I've
- 21:24Speaker 1: watched you play, the physicality, the sense of the center,
- 21:29Speaker 1: uh secretary all the way. But like I said, those
- 21:32Speaker 1: those magical eyes he had you cand that was that
- 21:34Speaker 1: was God. Their lives with God given. You can't replace
- 21:37Speaker 1: those eyes. So I know we had a few minutes left.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I want to talk about this next book. You gonn
- 21:40Speaker 1: write about these running backs right now we're talking about
- 21:43Speaker 1: the Mask Behind the Mask and the Linebacker edition. Now
- 21:47Speaker 1: you're gonna have a running back edition coming out, Yes, sir,
- 21:50Speaker 1: running Back edition right now. Here's my here's my all
- 21:54Speaker 1: time m Smith. Faith in it. Now, Eric Kissin ain't
- 22:00Speaker 1: in it, man, I mess him up. I've just thought
- 22:05Speaker 1: thought kicking people to the curve. You know, you know
- 22:09Speaker 1: he's gotta start with Jim Brown. They played listen, totally agreed.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Twelve games, they're they're doing twelve games back, then all
- 22:17Speaker 1: of yours. He ran up from just twelve games health games.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Then I gotta go to Barry Sanders. M hm m hmmm.
- 22:26Speaker 1: I'm in the same kitchen with you, coach self. Am
- 22:29Speaker 1: in the same and I know you can cook too.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I'm in the same kitching with you. Then I gotta
- 22:35Speaker 1: finish up with who I thought was the greatest physical
- 22:40Speaker 1: running back that matched speed simultaneously. The Tyler Roves. Earl Campbell, listen,
- 22:49Speaker 1: love Earl Campbell one of the first players I saw
- 22:52Speaker 1: as a little bit as a youngster. I thought he
- 22:57Speaker 1: played lineback, that's how hard he played the game. Alongside
- 23:02Speaker 1: Walter Payton CoA. I know, I know, I know it's
- 23:05Speaker 1: with that, but I'm I'm just talking about these are
- 23:08Speaker 1: three different players. What I'm saying. And Walter Payton, Walter Payton,
- 23:12Speaker 1: let me tell you something. Walter Payton, uh gifted. But
- 23:16Speaker 1: I was never afraid of Walter Payton. I'm just telling
- 23:18Speaker 1: you the truth. I was never afraid of him. Earl Campbell,
- 23:22Speaker 1: come on now, Errol Campbell was was was a beast.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Earl Campbell was one eight hundred. Look you up, yes, sir,
- 23:29Speaker 1: and he will step through your chest. And Barry Sanders, Hello, goodbye.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I got a great story about Barry Sanders. When we
- 23:37Speaker 1: come back, Oh man, we were We're done here, man,
- 23:39Speaker 1: we gotta wrap up here, we gotta wrap up. Yeah.
