Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Direct from Hollywood with Ryan Seacrest. Jesse Eisenberg has been
- 0:04Speaker 1: steadily working as an actor since he was a teenager,
- 0:06Speaker 1: but he recently took his first turn behind the camera,
- 0:09Speaker 1: writing and directing the heartfelt comedy A Real Pain, which
- 0:11Speaker 1: he also stars in alongside Kieran Culkin and Whiles, the
- 0:14Speaker 1: first produce screenplay by Jess. He's actually been writing for years,
- 0:17Speaker 1: though his early scripts were pretty different. He compared them
- 0:19Speaker 1: to poor excuses for an Adam Sandler comedy, and the
- 0:22Speaker 1: guy who convinced him to try a different direction was
- 0:24Speaker 1: better call sauls Bob Odenkirk. He tells the Hollywood Reporter
- 0:27Speaker 1: he got cast in a movie Bob was directing and
- 0:29Speaker 1: sent him a script. Since Bob had worked on SNL,
- 0:32Speaker 1: his hope was that he'd send them to Adam. Jesse
- 0:34Speaker 1: says Bob read them, then yelled at me for an hour,
- 0:37Speaker 1: but in an incredible way. I'll never forget what he did.
- 0:39Speaker 1: It changed my life. He said, why are you writing this?
- 0:41Speaker 1: This is something I get hired to write in a
- 0:43Speaker 1: weekend with three of us sitting in a room. You're
- 0:45Speaker 1: a thoughtful, sensitive guy. Why is this your art? It
- 0:48Speaker 1: killed me. Those scripts represented years of my life. But
- 0:51Speaker 1: right after that, I went to Poland and visited my
- 0:53Speaker 1: family's house as we do in a real pain as
- 0:56Speaker 1: Jesse Eisenberg, who got home from that trip and immediately
- 0:58Speaker 1: wrote a play that and she became a real paint,
- 1:01Speaker 1: which is in theaters that's direct from Hollywood.
