Latest / The Ben Ferguson Podcast / Trump Floats YUGE Tariff Rebate Checks as Government Shutdown Nears an End
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: All right, So Donald Trump has come out and is
- 0:05Speaker 1: kind of swinging on an issue of our tariffs. There's
- 0:08Speaker 1: a lot of Americans are like, well, I don't know
- 0:11Speaker 1: if I like these tariffs. The media has been fighting
- 0:13Speaker 1: against own Trump on these tariffs and acting like it's
- 0:15Speaker 1: a disaster and it's costing you a bunch more money.
- 0:18Speaker 2: YadA, YadA, YadA. Now a lot of it's lies.
- 0:20Speaker 1: You remember the Democrats said early on with the tariffs
- 0:22Speaker 1: that they were gonna be empty shelves going into Christmas,
- 0:25Speaker 1: that you weren't gonna be able to find Christmas gifts.
- 0:27Speaker 1: You were gonna be finding basic goods and necesses if
- 0:30Speaker 1: you went to think place like Walmart. Like this is
- 0:32Speaker 1: what they actually said at the time. We know that
- 0:35Speaker 1: was a total lie. We know it was total crap,
- 0:40Speaker 1: and it was pathological and they knew it. These are
- 0:44Speaker 1: the same Democrats, by the way, that are holding Americans
- 0:47Speaker 1: hostages with snap benefits and held Americans for the last
- 0:53Speaker 1: forty days with the government shutdown. We're now coming out
- 0:55Speaker 1: of that shutdown. We'll have more about that in a moment.
- 0:58Speaker 1: But Donald Trump and what he is now saying is
- 1:02Speaker 1: tells you two things about this country. Number one, just
- 1:07Speaker 1: how messed up our government is that people can't even
- 1:11Speaker 1: get their head around the idea of the government sending
- 1:14Speaker 1: you a check for two thousand dollars. Now, we send
- 1:16Speaker 1: money to the government if you work every month, right
- 1:18Speaker 1: like you get doctor. You pay your taxes quarterly, annually,
- 1:22Speaker 1: whatever however you do it. My point is, every day
- 1:24Speaker 1: when you go to work, you are paying taxes. It
- 1:28Speaker 1: may be deferred for a few weeks or months, but
- 1:30Speaker 1: you're going to pay every day. The majority of Americans
- 1:34Speaker 1: it worked three to four months a year just to
- 1:37Speaker 1: pay their taxes. So January, February, March into April, that's
- 1:42Speaker 1: just paying your taxes, which is shocking. So now you
- 1:47Speaker 1: fast forward to where we are with tariffs. We've got
- 1:50Speaker 1: a lot of money that's been collected in tariffs, and
- 1:54Speaker 1: the President says, you know what, maybe it's time to
- 1:56Speaker 1: return some of that money to the American people. Here's
- 1:59Speaker 1: the part that blows my mind on this, the fact
- 2:02Speaker 1: that there are so many Americans that just can't believe
- 2:05Speaker 1: the idea. And this is how much of an abusive
- 2:08Speaker 1: relationship we are all in with our federal government. That
- 2:12Speaker 1: Donald Trump saying this seems like it's crazy talk that
- 2:15Speaker 1: the president of the United States. Americans like, look, we
- 2:17Speaker 1: just collected a whole lot of money we weren't planning on,
- 2:19Speaker 1: and we're going to give it back to the American people.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And people are like, wait, wait, wait, huh, well, you
- 2:24Speaker 1: can't have that happen.
- 2:24Speaker 2: That can't happen. What do you mean?
- 2:26Speaker 1: And this is, by the way, what government should look like.
- 2:30Speaker 1: They should not be mandating so much money from us.
- 2:33Speaker 1: They should be spending our money wisely, and if there's
- 2:37Speaker 1: any left over, they shouldn't hold it for the next
- 2:39Speaker 1: Port Bret project. They should send it back to the people.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And that's exactly what Donald Trump is advocating for and
- 2:45Speaker 1: what he's saying right now. But first we want to
- 2:48Speaker 1: tell you about our friends over Patriot Mobile. Every so often,
- 2:51Speaker 1: something happens that reminds us just how fragile our freedoms are.
- 2:55Speaker 1: We can't afford to take our rights for granted. We
- 2:58Speaker 1: must draw a line in the same and our friends
- 3:01Speaker 1: at Patriot Mobile have been doing just that for more
- 3:04Speaker 1: than twelve years. The truth is, there is only one
- 3:08Speaker 1: provider that boldly stands in the gap for Americans who
- 3:11Speaker 1: believe freedom is worth fighting. For and that company is
- 3:14Speaker 1: Patriot Mobile. Not only are they leading the red economy,
- 3:18Speaker 1: they're also outpacing the competition and technology. Patriot Mobile is
- 3:23Speaker 1: one of the only carriers offering premium access to all
- 3:28Speaker 1: three major US networks, giving you nationwide coverage and service
- 3:32Speaker 1: that you can count on day after day. They also
- 3:35Speaker 1: offer unlimited data plans, mobile hotspots, international roaming, internet backup,
- 3:41Speaker 1: in so much more, and switching has never been easier.
- 3:45Speaker 1: You can activate in minutes on your phone from your
- 3:48Speaker 1: home or your office and you keep your same number.
- 3:51Speaker 1: You've got now keep your same phone or upgrade to
- 3:53Speaker 1: a new one. And this is where the magic happens.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Every month, about five percent of your bill is given
- 3:59Speaker 1: back to conservative causes at no extra cost to you
- 4:03Speaker 1: that stand up for our First and our Second Amendment rights,
- 4:06Speaker 1: the rights of unborn children, and are wounded warriors and
- 4:10Speaker 1: those that have fought for a country and wear a badge.
- 4:13Speaker 1: So take a stand today and make a difference with
- 4:15Speaker 1: every call you make Patriot Mobile dot com slash ferguson
- 4:21Speaker 1: or nine to seven to two Patriot use the promo
- 4:24Speaker 1: code ferguson for a free month of service as well.
- 4:28Speaker 1: That's patriotmobile dot com slash ferguson or nine seven to
- 4:32Speaker 1: two Patriot and make the switch and make a difference
- 4:36Speaker 1: with every call you make. I want you to listen,
- 4:39Speaker 1: and this is I think really important. Okay, I want
- 4:42Speaker 1: you to listen to Donald Trump in his own words
- 4:46Speaker 1: about this describing who will get this money and these
- 4:51Speaker 1: tear freebait checks for the American people, and why by
- 4:55Speaker 1: the way he believes it should be saying it's actually normal,
- 4:57Speaker 1: not abnormal.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Listen carefully.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Without tariffs, we would be this country would be in
- 5:02Speaker 3: such trouble as they were for many years. That's why
- 5:05Speaker 3: we owe thirty eight trillion dollars. And one of the
- 5:08Speaker 3: things we're going to do we're going to issue a
- 5:09Speaker 3: dividend to our middle income people and lower income people
- 5:14Speaker 3: of about two thousand dollars, and we're going to use
- 5:17Speaker 3: the remaining tariffs to lower our debt. We're going to
- 5:19Speaker 3: be lowering our debt, which is a national security thing.
- 5:22Speaker 3: So we were doing a lot of good work and
- 5:25Speaker 3: the numbers were reported so incorrectly. The real numbers are
- 5:29Speaker 3: trillions of dollars have been taken in or gotten in
- 5:32Speaker 3: terms of investment from the tariffs. And so if that
- 5:37Speaker 3: were ever reversed, it would be a disaster. Frankly, it
- 5:40Speaker 3: would be a national security problem for our country. And
- 5:42Speaker 3: nobody thinks it's going to be reversed. I think we
- 5:45Speaker 3: had a very good court case, as you know, it's
- 5:47Speaker 3: before the Supreme Court right now. But if that were
- 5:49Speaker 3: ever reversed, you know, people are saying, oh, it's a
- 5:52Speaker 3: billion dollars. Some people said, oh it's two billion. Well
- 5:55Speaker 3: that obviously we can handle very easily. But this is
- 5:57Speaker 3: trillions of dollars we're talking about terms of the tariff
- 6:01Speaker 3: income and all the investment income that's come into our country.
- 6:04Speaker 1: You know, we have Well let me just stop there,
- 6:06Speaker 1: and I want to just dissect what the President just said.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Everything that he said was going to happen when the
- 6:11Speaker 1: tariffs has happened. He said we were going to collect collect,
- 6:14Speaker 1: He said it hundreds of billions or trillions of dollars.
- 6:17Speaker 1: It's now in the trillions. That was unexpected money that
- 6:21Speaker 1: is coming in now. Notice he didn't say I'm going
- 6:23Speaker 1: to spend on port raow projects. No, No, He's like,
- 6:25Speaker 1: we should give the money back to the American people.
- 6:28Speaker 1: We should give a two thousand dollars tariff freebate check
- 6:31Speaker 1: to Americans that desperately need it. By the way, he
- 6:33Speaker 1: didn't say he's going to like reward the richest in
- 6:35Speaker 1: this country. And we can have a debate over should
- 6:37Speaker 1: they get their two thousand dollars back too, and in
- 6:40Speaker 1: a moment, but you remember this is all member all
- 6:42Speaker 1: Democrats like, oh, Donald Trump only takes care of the rich.
- 6:44Speaker 2: It never takes care of the port.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Well, he's sent in two thousand dollars to the poorest Americans,
- 6:47Speaker 1: not the richest Americans. So screw you for that lie.
- 6:51Speaker 1: And it's part of what you should share. By the way,
- 6:53Speaker 1: this is why I do this show, and I hope
- 6:55Speaker 1: that when I give you info like this, you share
- 6:58Speaker 1: the show, share the POW podcast wherever you can on
- 7:01Speaker 1: social media, because this is what the media is not
- 7:04Speaker 1: going to cover from what the President described. And not
- 7:07Speaker 1: only do we get literally a trillion plus dollars and
- 7:10Speaker 1: now it could be into the trillions that he wants
- 7:14Speaker 1: to give a lot of this back to the American people,
- 7:17Speaker 1: but he's also talking about there's another.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Aspect of this, and that is job creation.
- 7:25Speaker 1: When the President was doing these trade deals, one of
- 7:29Speaker 1: the things that he made clear is that you have
- 7:31Speaker 1: to invest in America. You have to invest in the
- 7:35Speaker 1: United States of America. You have to come here, you
- 7:39Speaker 1: have to do things here. You have to make sure
- 7:42Speaker 1: that we get something back from your country instead of
- 7:46Speaker 1: you just taking advantage of us as a nation. That
- 7:49Speaker 1: is extremely important. And so what we are seeing is
- 7:54Speaker 1: job creation in America. So not only are people literally
- 7:58Speaker 1: getting jobs, but then there's all businesses that are expanding
- 8:01Speaker 1: to service. These jobs are being created, these industries that
- 8:06Speaker 1: are being created by the President of the United States
- 8:09Speaker 1: of America. So this is twofold. It's not just one.
- 8:12Speaker 1: It's twofold. And it's truly, I mean incredible if you
- 8:17Speaker 1: think about it, it's unbelievable that we have a president
- 8:21Speaker 1: that said, A, We're going to do this right and
- 8:26Speaker 1: B we're going to give the money back to the
- 8:28Speaker 1: American be when we have a surplus. When was the
- 8:30Speaker 1: last time a politician did that. I want you to
- 8:34Speaker 1: actually think it's a real question. I want you to
- 8:37Speaker 1: think about. You know, I go back to the last
- 8:40Speaker 1: time we had something that that felt close to this.
- 8:42Speaker 1: It was the government program which ended up being a disaster.
- 8:47Speaker 1: It was cash for clunkers. Do you remember that? And
- 8:51Speaker 1: what happened is is a bunch of people turned in cars. Now,
- 8:54Speaker 1: really we found out what this was actually about was
- 8:56Speaker 1: they wanted to get rid of a bunch of gas
- 8:58Speaker 1: guzzling cars. They were evil, and so they want to
- 9:01Speaker 1: take them off the marketplace. And so that was the
- 9:03Speaker 1: liberals incentive for doing it. Consernatives like, all right, well,
- 9:06Speaker 1: let's do this cash for Conger's thing. We'll get people
- 9:09Speaker 1: a big rebate. It'll be super coomed by. Yeah, everybody's
- 9:12Speaker 1: gonna love it. YadA YadA, YadA. Right, what ended up
- 9:14Speaker 1: happening is it costs you a lot more money. You
- 9:17Speaker 1: may have gotten a rebate, but then you got screwed
- 9:19Speaker 1: when there was no used cars for sales, and it
- 9:22Speaker 1: actually hurt poor people. It was a bad program. It
- 9:25Speaker 1: was a disaster when you look at the data after
- 9:27Speaker 1: the fact. This one has nothing to do with anything
- 9:29Speaker 1: like that. This isn't any type of like voodoo economics.
- 9:33Speaker 1: This is just straight up we took in a bunch
- 9:34Speaker 1: of money and it's the American people's money. It's not
- 9:37Speaker 1: the government's money. It's American people's money. And we want
- 9:39Speaker 1: to give the money back to the American people. Now,
- 9:42Speaker 1: let me also go to the second aspect of what
- 9:44Speaker 1: Trump has said about this tariff success. Not only is
- 9:49Speaker 1: it the money we're gonna get back, but it's the
- 9:52Speaker 1: businesses in the infrastructure that's been built, creating American jobs
- 9:55Speaker 1: in this country.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Listen to Donald Trump in his own words.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I'm going to back it up about ten seconds here
- 10:00Speaker 1: so you can hear what he said about that.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Take a listen carefully the president coming all.
- 10:05Speaker 3: The investment income that's come into our country. You know,
- 10:07Speaker 3: we have more than I would say right now, more
- 10:10Speaker 3: than eighteen trillion dollars. The biggest number ever is a
- 10:14Speaker 3: tiny fraction of that for any country, China, the United
- 10:18Speaker 3: States the biggest number of it. If you look at
- 10:20Speaker 3: the past administration Biden, he did less than a trillion
- 10:23Speaker 3: in four years. We're over eighteen trillion. By the time
- 10:27Speaker 3: my first year ends, we're gonna have over twenty trillion
- 10:30Speaker 3: dollars of investment coming into the United States. It's unheard of.
- 10:34Speaker 3: We have AI factories, We're leading China by a lot.
- 10:37Speaker 3: We have cars and you know, car plants coming in
- 10:41Speaker 3: by more than we've ever had built before. All of
- 10:45Speaker 3: that would go away if we lose the tariff case,
- 10:48Speaker 3: so all of it would go away, So they're not
- 10:50Speaker 3: giving the right numbers. There would be an economic disaster,
- 10:54Speaker 3: it would be a national security disaster if we lost
- 10:57Speaker 3: the case in the Supreme Court.
- 11:00Speaker 1: So the President talking about this going to the Supreme Court,
- 11:04Speaker 1: and you can hear the President there going back to
- 11:06Speaker 1: the core. I want two thousand dollars tear freebate checks
- 11:09Speaker 1: to go to Americans. I want more American jobs to
- 11:12Speaker 1: be created, more industries to be created, more national security
- 11:15Speaker 1: issues that it will be fixed, by the way, by
- 11:17Speaker 1: having many of these industries that we've relied to heavily
- 11:20Speaker 1: on our adversaries, foreign countries for And so the President's like, no, no,
- 11:24Speaker 1: Like this is how we're going.
- 11:25Speaker 2: To do this.
- 11:27Speaker 1: So let's just take a little bit of a recap
- 11:29Speaker 1: here so that you understand how all this got started.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Two days ago, are three days ago, November the ninth,
- 11:37Speaker 1: depending on when you're listening to this. Trump put it
- 11:39Speaker 1: out there on True Social This reminds me, by the way,
- 11:42Speaker 1: so much of when the President put out on True
- 11:45Speaker 1: Social note tax on tips and then it became a reality.
- 11:48Speaker 1: And this is where I love the President. He's a
- 11:50Speaker 1: practical guy who clearly believes his job is to help
- 11:54Speaker 1: you succeed, not to hold you back, and so he
- 11:57Speaker 1: says people that are against tariffs are fools. A dividend
- 12:01Speaker 1: of at least two thousand of person, not including high
- 12:03Speaker 1: income people, will be paid to everyone. He framed this
- 12:06Speaker 1: as a result of the large tear revenue his administration
- 12:09Speaker 1: is collecting, which democrats said was going to ruin our economy.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Was going to have empty shelves, no presents for your
- 12:14Speaker 1: kids for Christmas, and everything was going to be skyrocketing
- 12:18Speaker 1: and you couldn't afford anything, and Walmart was going to
- 12:20Speaker 1: be empty and target right, none of it happened.
- 12:22Speaker 2: They were pathological liars, he said.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Quote we are now the richest, most respected country in
- 12:29Speaker 1: the world, with almost no inflation in a record stock
- 12:32Speaker 1: market price. He says the money would also be used
- 12:36Speaker 1: to pay down the national debt, which is thirty seven
- 12:39Speaker 1: trillion or more.
- 12:40Speaker 2: That's a problem.
- 12:42Speaker 1: In a most recent post, he clarified the first payments
- 12:44Speaker 1: would go to low and middle income US citizens, and
- 12:46Speaker 1: then remaining tear for revenue would go to substantial debt reduction.
- 12:50Speaker 1: So again, this isn't something that's going to help the rich. Okay,
- 12:54Speaker 1: but it's going to pay down our debt, and it's
- 12:56Speaker 1: going to and then a lot of rich people are
- 12:57Speaker 1: in favor of that, and it's going to go to
- 13:00Speaker 1: up low and middle income American citizens US citizens. Knows
- 13:03Speaker 1: he didn't say illegal immigrants, which Democrats love to give
- 13:06Speaker 1: money to. Now, the key details of this are obviously
- 13:10Speaker 1: another aspect of what Democrats are losing their mind over, right,
- 13:13Speaker 1: like what's the eligibility?
- 13:15Speaker 2: All right, let's go to Trump's words.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Trump says quote not including high income people, but he
- 13:20Speaker 1: has not specified what high income means, right, So Democrats say, well,
- 13:24Speaker 1: he might end up doing this. I look, if he
- 13:27Speaker 1: says it, I believe him. I doubt high income people
- 13:29Speaker 1: are gonna get the check. He called it a dividend
- 13:32Speaker 1: from the tariff revenue. His Treasury Secretary Scotts said he
- 13:35Speaker 1: has not discussed the plan with Trump and indicated that
- 13:38Speaker 1: the dividend could simply be tax cuts rather than a
- 13:41Speaker 1: direct check as they figure.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Out the deal.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Well, look, I don't care if it comes in two
- 13:46Speaker 1: thousand dollars check or it comes into two thousand dollars
- 13:49Speaker 1: rebate on my taxes.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I'm fine either way.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Now, the tariffs from which the revenue would flow under
- 13:55Speaker 1: legal challenge, right because the Democrats are freaking out.
- 13:59Speaker 2: They're going for the spreeing court on this now.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And that's why the present's warning, look at the tariffs
- 14:04Speaker 1: are struck down, revenue may be refunded. That would be
- 14:06Speaker 1: incredibly stupid. I don't believe that the Supreme Court is
- 14:10Speaker 1: going to do that. Democrats hate Trump so much that
- 14:14Speaker 1: they actually want to handback trillions of dollars to foreign countries.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Like you want to know whose side they're on, They're
- 14:21Speaker 1: not on your side now. According to the Treasury data
- 14:25Speaker 1: three September twenty twenty five, the US government has collected
- 14:28Speaker 1: about one hundred ninety five billion teriff related customs duties alone.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Analysts estimate that if the payments were two thousand per person,
- 14:37Speaker 1: for say one hundred and fifty million Americans adults earning
- 14:40Speaker 1: under hunter K, that would cost about three hundred billion,
- 14:43Speaker 1: and if children were included, even higher than that.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Now there's no indicasion kids are going to be included
- 14:48Speaker 2: in this.
- 14:48Speaker 1: We if more tariff money comes in, I don't actually
- 14:51Speaker 1: think the President would be against that, but he's probably
- 14:54Speaker 1: not going to add kids in there right away, because
- 14:56Speaker 1: we're not going to lose money on this deal. He's
- 14:57Speaker 1: going to say, here's what we've collected, let's give it
- 15:00Speaker 1: back to the American people.
- 15:01Speaker 2: We're not going to go in to more debt to
- 15:02Speaker 2: do this.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Now, if you look at even more conservative math, when
- 15:06Speaker 1: you count for the net revenue right tearf revenue offsetting taxes,
- 15:10Speaker 1: payroll reductions, then you're about one hundred billion. So this
- 15:14Speaker 1: program is clearly putting Americans first and saying we're not
- 15:20Speaker 1: sitting here trying to like.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Give you a little bit back. We want to give
- 15:23Speaker 2: it all to you back.
- 15:24Speaker 1: And Democrats are like, well, there's a shortfall here, right,
- 15:27Speaker 1: so it's not feasible. Again, I go back to the
- 15:30Speaker 1: president's words. President United States America is saying, I want
- 15:34Speaker 1: to give you the money. I want to give you
- 15:37Speaker 1: the money. And that's why Democrats are so mad over this.
- 15:42Speaker 1: That's why the media is so mad over this. They
- 15:44Speaker 1: don't believe that your money is your money. They believe
- 15:47Speaker 1: that the government is who should get all of your money.
- 15:55Speaker 1: They believe they should be in charge of all of it.
- 15:59Speaker 1: They think that a better stewards of it. This goes
- 16:02Speaker 1: back to what we just saw in New York City.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Mandani believes that everything in your life should be controlled
- 16:08Speaker 1: by the government, that the government should pick every single problem,
- 16:12Speaker 1: fix it, I should say, and that there's as he
- 16:15Speaker 1: described it, there's no problem that is, whether you say,
- 16:19Speaker 1: too small or too big for the government, like that's
- 16:21Speaker 1: what he believes. It's crazy. I mean, for me, it's
- 16:27Speaker 1: truly truly crazy that this is what they believe. And
- 16:34Speaker 1: so this is a grand divide. Do you want to
- 16:37Speaker 1: present the believes that your money is your money, that
- 16:43Speaker 1: your tax dollars are your tax dollars, and that if
- 16:47Speaker 1: the government gets back a lot of money, right, more money, Okay,
- 16:52Speaker 1: if the government gets back more money than they planned on,
- 16:55Speaker 1: then they should give it back to you or should
- 16:57Speaker 1: they keep it for some government program or hijack things
- 17:00Speaker 1: like a That's a very very very real difference in
- 17:05Speaker 1: the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. Now, I think
- 17:09Speaker 1: most Americans are going to love having a two thousand
- 17:12Speaker 1: dollars check show up or a two thousand dollars rebate
- 17:16Speaker 1: show up on their taxes. I think most Americans don't
- 17:19Speaker 1: care how you get the two thousand off as long
- 17:22Speaker 1: as it's two thousand off. Now if they add kids
- 17:24Speaker 1: into here, that would be totally insane, it would be incredible.
- 17:29Speaker 1: But I also think the president understands that we have
- 17:31Speaker 1: to pay down our debt at some point, and that's
- 17:32Speaker 1: a real issue. We've got to pay down our debt.
- 17:36Speaker 1: And so you give this to middle and lower class
- 17:39Speaker 1: individuals in this country, income earners, and then you move
- 17:43Speaker 1: on from there.
- 17:45Speaker 2: That's what you do.
- 17:46Speaker 1: You do it, and you move on and look for Democrats,
- 17:50Speaker 1: they hate empowering Americans. They absolutely despise having Americans succeed.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I've said this for a long time. Why is it
- 18:02Speaker 1: that Democrats despise American succeeding because when they do, they
- 18:09Speaker 1: don't have to depend on them, They don't own them
- 18:12Speaker 1: like modern day slaves. When Donald Trump was present the
- 18:15Speaker 1: first time, sixteen to twenty, you're the lowest unemployment rate
- 18:18Speaker 1: in history for African American men and women, Asian Americans
- 18:23Speaker 1: and Latinos in this country. And what did Democrats do?
- 18:27Speaker 1: They couldn't stand it because they would rather have people
- 18:29Speaker 1: living in poverty depending on them for their handouts or
- 18:33Speaker 1: government food stamps and going to the poles saying if
- 18:36Speaker 1: you don't vote for me, you might not get that
- 18:38Speaker 1: free housing check, or that free health care or those
- 18:42Speaker 1: or those groceries. What did Donald Trump want to do?
- 18:45Speaker 1: He said, I want you to succeed. I don't want
- 18:47Speaker 1: you to need the government. I don't want you to
- 18:49Speaker 1: live in poverty. He empowered people, and that's exactly what
- 18:54Speaker 1: he's doing this time as well. Sorry, I want to
- 18:58Speaker 1: move to the government shutdown update for you, so you
- 19:01Speaker 1: know where we are on that as of this moment.
- 19:03Speaker 1: And this is changing quickly, so depending on when you
- 19:06Speaker 1: listen to some of this may have changed.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Okay, number one.
- 19:10Speaker 1: The members of the House representatives have returned to Washington today,
- 19:14Speaker 1: braving the nation's tangled airports, for a vote that could
- 19:18Speaker 1: bring the longest US government shut down in history to
- 19:22Speaker 1: a close. The Speaker of the House, talking amid the
- 19:26Speaker 1: government shutdown, saying this about where we are and what
- 19:30Speaker 1: is happening.
- 19:32Speaker 4: Very thankful to see you all this morning. I'm thankful
- 19:34Speaker 4: to welcome you to what appears to be the beginning
- 19:37Speaker 4: of the end of the longest government shutdown in US history.
- 19:41Speaker 4: As shameful as that is, I don't think it's coincidental,
- 19:45Speaker 4: you know how I think. But it's after forty days
- 19:48Speaker 4: of wandering in the wilderness and making the American people
- 19:51Speaker 4: suffer needlessly, some Senate Democrats finally have stepped forward to
- 19:56Speaker 4: end the pain. It appears to us this morning that
- 19:59Speaker 4: our long national nightmare is finally coming to an end,
- 20:01Speaker 4: and we're grateful for that at least some Democrats now
- 20:06Speaker 4: finally appear ready to do what Republicans and President Trump
- 20:09Speaker 4: and millions of hard working American people have been asking
- 20:12Speaker 4: them to do for weeks. As we said from the beginning,
- 20:16Speaker 4: the people's government cannot be held hostage to further anyone's
- 20:21Speaker 4: political agenda. That was never right, and shutting down the
- 20:24Speaker 4: government never produces anything. It never has if you study history,
- 20:29Speaker 4: and so here we are. I want to remind everybody
- 20:32Speaker 4: this morning of another critical point that you've heard me
- 20:35Speaker 4: here repeat over and over over the last several weeks.
- 20:38Speaker 4: It's something that I and Leader John Thune, and President
- 20:42Speaker 4: Trump and every Republican leader have all said repeatedly from
- 20:46Speaker 4: the beginning. We have always been open to finding solutions
- 20:51Speaker 4: to reduce the oppressive costs of health care under the
- 20:54Speaker 4: Unaffordable Care Act. We just made clear that we would
- 20:58Speaker 4: not and should not ever do that. That is negotiate
- 21:02Speaker 4: as hostages. And I've also reminded you here every morning
- 21:06Speaker 4: at this press conference. Throughout the shutdown, Republicans have not
- 21:09Speaker 4: just been talking about reducing costs and fraud and abuse
- 21:13Speaker 4: in so many areas and in healthcare. We've been actually
- 21:16Speaker 4: passing new laws to accomplish that urgent mission for the people,
- 21:20Speaker 4: and we will continue to do so. So here's where
- 21:23Speaker 4: we are by way of schedule, just so you know
- 21:25Speaker 4: you're following if you're not at home, if you're waking
- 21:28Speaker 4: up to this good news this morning that the Senates
- 21:31Speaker 4: vote last late last night of sixty to forty opens
- 21:35Speaker 4: the door. Now the Senate is moving forward on an
- 21:38Speaker 4: amended House cr continuing resolution that will reopen the government
- 21:42Speaker 4: until January thirtieth. Added to that are provisions to fully
- 21:47Speaker 4: fund snap provisions through the end of the next fiscal year,
- 21:50Speaker 4: which is September twenty twenty six, guaranteed back pay for
- 21:54Speaker 4: all federal workers who have been made to endure these
- 21:56Speaker 4: hardships over the last several weeks. And it also includes
- 22:00Speaker 4: passage of three appropriations bills which we're grateful to be
- 22:03Speaker 4: moving through the process. That is the military construction Veterans
- 22:06Speaker 4: Affairs Bill, it's the Agriculture bill and the Legislative Branch bill.
- 22:11Speaker 4: The Senate will be back in session this morning to
- 22:13Speaker 4: finish their job, and we're certainly praying that they do.
- 22:17Speaker 4: They'll need unanimous consent from all Senators to fast track
- 22:20Speaker 4: their final vote. As you know, there's some procedural hurdles
- 22:23Speaker 4: that one or more could throw in the way, but
- 22:25Speaker 4: we certainly hope that they won't do that because so
- 22:28Speaker 4: many people across this country are desperate for the government
- 22:32Speaker 4: to reopen. At the very moment that they do that
- 22:36Speaker 4: final vote, I will call all House members to return
- 22:39Speaker 4: to Washington as quickly as possible. We'll give a thirty
- 22:43Speaker 4: six hour formal and official notice so that we can
- 22:46Speaker 4: vote as soon as possible to pass the amendedcy Our
- 22:49Speaker 4: Bill and get it to the President's desk. As you
- 22:51Speaker 4: all know, and he said as recently as last night,
- 22:53Speaker 4: I was with him and he told the press he said,
- 22:56Speaker 4: we want to get the government open. He's very anxious
- 22:58Speaker 4: to get the government reopened and to end the Schumer shutdown.
- 23:01Speaker 2: We all are.
- 23:02Speaker 4: With regard to the travel challenges, I spoke yesterday at
- 23:05Speaker 4: some link with the Transportation Secretary of Sean Duffy, my
- 23:07Speaker 4: former colleague and good friend, and he lamented the serious
- 23:11Speaker 4: situation that we have with air travel in the US.
- 23:13Speaker 4: He's bent over backwards, as all members of the administration
- 23:15Speaker 4: and the Cabinet have done in all of their areas
- 23:17Speaker 4: of jurisdiction, to try to keep the government working for
- 23:20Speaker 4: the people and to mitigate the pain and the harm.
- 23:22Speaker 4: But the problem we have with air travel is that
- 23:25Speaker 4: our air traffic controllers are overworked and unpaid, and many
- 23:28Speaker 4: of them have called in sick. That's a very stressful job,
- 23:31Speaker 4: and even more stressful exponentially when they're having trouble providing
- 23:34Speaker 4: for their families. And so air travel has been grinded
- 23:38Speaker 4: to a halt in many places, and as of Sunday,
- 23:41Speaker 4: nearly half of all domestic flights and US flights were
- 23:44Speaker 4: either canceled or delayed. And it's a very serious situation. So
- 23:48Speaker 4: I'm saying that by way of reminder, I'm stating the
- 23:50Speaker 4: obvious to all my colleagues, Republicans and Democrats in the House.
- 23:54Speaker 4: You need to begin right now, returning to the hill.
- 23:57Speaker 4: We have to do this as quickly as possible. Now
- 23:59Speaker 4: we look forward to the government reopening this week so
- 24:02Speaker 4: Congress can get back, can get back to our a
- 24:05Speaker 4: regular legislative session. We have a lot of business to do,
- 24:07Speaker 4: as you all know, and we will be working in
- 24:09Speaker 4: earnest will be There'll be long days and long nights
- 24:13Speaker 4: here for the foreseeable future, to make up for all
- 24:15Speaker 4: this lost time that was imposed upon us. I want
- 24:18Speaker 4: to I want to close and with something that's important.
- 24:22Speaker 4: I think it's important to say that this is genuine.
- 24:24Speaker 4: I mean this sincerely. We applaud the seven Senate Democrats
- 24:28Speaker 4: and one independent Senator who did the right thing. They
- 24:32Speaker 4: decided to put principle over their their personal politics and
- 24:37Speaker 4: my urgent plea of all my colleagues in the House,
- 24:40Speaker 4: and that means every Democrat in the House is to
- 24:43Speaker 4: to think, carefully, pray, and finally do the right thing
- 24:48Speaker 4: and help us to bring an end to the pain
- 24:50Speaker 4: of the American people. This has gone on too long,
- 24:53Speaker 4: too many people have suffered, and it's long overdue. And
- 24:56Speaker 4: that's the update I wanted to give you this morning.
- 24:58Speaker 4: There are probably lots of questions, but I'm going to
- 25:00Speaker 4: get a lot of my own questions answered later today,
- 25:02Speaker 4: so stay tuned for more. Thanks.
- 25:04Speaker 1: So there it is, the Speaker of the House, explaining
- 25:06Speaker 1: exactly how this is going to go down and how
- 25:09Speaker 1: quickly we could see things turn back to normal.
- 25:13Speaker 2: It's going to be a little chilly, but I will
- 25:14Speaker 2: do my duty.
- 25:15Speaker 1: I'm getting back to DC and we're going to open
- 25:18Speaker 1: this country back up and get it back on track.
- 25:21Speaker 1: That is another aspect of what has been said by
- 25:23Speaker 1: many Republicans are saying, hey, we've got thousands of flights
- 25:27Speaker 1: canceled in recent days.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Do the shutdown.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Some lawmakers opted for the modes of translation to the
- 25:32Speaker 1: Capitol like they're actually driving. One Republican representative, Derek Van Orden,
- 25:37Speaker 1: said he was making the sixteen hour drive from his
- 25:40Speaker 1: Wisconsin district because air travel is just too unreliable.
- 25:44Speaker 2: And the Republican controlled House.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Is due to vote Wednesday afternoon on a compromise that
- 25:50Speaker 1: would restore funding the government agencies and into shutdown that
- 25:53Speaker 1: start on October one. The Republican controlled Senate approved the
- 25:57Speaker 1: deal Monday night. I'll Speaker Johnson said, expected to be
- 26:00Speaker 1: past his chamber as well, and then President Donald Trump
- 26:04Speaker 1: has come out calling the deal very good. He's expected
- 26:07Speaker 1: to obviously sign it into law immediately now within days.
- 26:11Speaker 1: The US government could be fully functioning again, bring relief
- 26:15Speaker 1: to federal workers who have missed paychecks and low income
- 26:17Speaker 1: families who defend on food subsidies as well. It could
- 26:21Speaker 1: take several days. And this is the problem so many've
- 26:24Speaker 1: asked me about this. It could take several days for
- 26:27Speaker 1: the nation's air travel system to return to normal. The deal,
- 26:31Speaker 1: by the way, which has divided Democrats because they love
- 26:34Speaker 1: holding you hostage, had sought to extend healthcare subsidies for
- 26:38Speaker 1: twenty four million Americans past the end of the year
- 26:41Speaker 1: when they were due to expire. Now, this also tells
- 26:43Speaker 1: you just how broken Obamacare is that these types of
- 26:46Speaker 1: subsidies are actually needed.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Yesterday, it was very interesting on CNN.
- 26:52Speaker 1: One of the things that was said there on CNN
- 26:55Speaker 1: about the subsidies was that they were talking about like
- 26:58Speaker 1: how much they'd actually got on up, like how much
- 27:01Speaker 1: the subseason had skyrocketed. And you just kind of have
- 27:05Speaker 1: to laugh when you see that. Anavar said, quote, American
- 27:10Speaker 1: healthcare premiums are going up one hundred, two hundred, three
- 27:13Speaker 1: hundred percent. I thought Obamacare fixed that.
- 27:17Speaker 2: It didn't. It didn't fix it. It's a disaster.
- 27:21Speaker 1: It's going to be another thing that could easily bankrupt
- 27:24Speaker 1: this country. You want to know why we're in so
- 27:27Speaker 1: much debt right now when you have premiums in Obamacare
- 27:30Speaker 1: going up again. I want to make sure I quote
- 27:33Speaker 1: on a Navarro correctly one hundred two hundred three hundred percent.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Obamacare is an utter disaster. It is a total disaster,
- 27:42Speaker 1: and everyone knows it. By the way, like this is
- 27:46Speaker 1: not something that's hard to figure out. It is very
- 27:51Speaker 1: easy to understand that this is going to bankrupt us.
- 27:55Speaker 1: So there's going to have to be reform with Obamacare.
- 28:00Speaker 1: There's no way around it. Okay, Like, there's just no
- 28:03Speaker 1: way around it. We have to have major reform here,
- 28:07Speaker 1: and if we don't, then it will continue to be
- 28:11Speaker 1: a political football and it will continue to be a
- 28:13Speaker 1: political disaster. And Democrats knew this. I go back to
- 28:17Speaker 1: what did Nancy Pelosi say? Her words, not mine. We
- 28:21Speaker 1: won't know what's in the bill until we pass the bill,
- 28:26Speaker 1: and that is Obamacare summed up perfectly. We won't know
- 28:30Speaker 1: what's in the bill until we pass the bill, and
- 28:34Speaker 1: so when we pass the bill, we'll figure it out later.
- 28:38Speaker 1: It's just a big old government subsidy. That's all it is.
- 28:42Speaker 2: It's just a government subsidy.
- 28:45Speaker 1: One other thing I want to say about this government
- 28:48Speaker 1: shut down, I think it also tells you just how
- 28:52Speaker 1: bloated our government is. The majority of Americans' lives have
- 28:59Speaker 1: really not been affected at all by the government shutdown.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I think that's actually pretty incredible that we think our
- 29:08Speaker 1: government is just so important, and in reality it's really not.
- 29:15Speaker 1: It's just not Our government has gotten way too big,
- 29:19Speaker 1: and our government should be a lot smaller.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Than it actually is.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Right now, all right, don't forget share this show, share
- 29:27Speaker 1: the podcast wherever you can. We'll keep you updated on
- 29:31Speaker 1: the government shutdown. What's happening with the government shutdown, obviously,
- 29:35Speaker 1: is we're going to continue to see this move forward
