- 3:09Speaker 1: AKA Thomas Miles, Nephew Tommy, I's wanna do it that
- 3:12Speaker 1: way man. Good to be here without how you doing man,
- 3:17Speaker 1: really good, Man, really good. I was excited. Man. You know,
- 3:19Speaker 1: they sent me your bio and they send a list
- 3:21Speaker 1: of questions and everything. But you know, I see it
- 3:24Speaker 1: in a few times. We're gonna talk about ready for
- 3:26Speaker 1: a little but I see it in right on them grits, brother,
- 3:28Speaker 1: the grits and those grits. You know what shot. I
- 3:33Speaker 1: had no idea. I um hartning up with this guy
- 3:37Speaker 1: in Houston who's who's Who's been cooking for years and
- 3:41Speaker 1: I wanted am I needed an extra turkey for Thanksgiving
- 3:45Speaker 1: and never met this guy before in my life. I
- 3:47Speaker 1: bought a turkey from it, and when I was leaving,
- 3:50Speaker 1: he said, hey, do you like grits. I was like, yeah,
- 3:52Speaker 1: I love grits. You said, well take this season and
- 3:54Speaker 1: put it in your grits next time your wife cuts
- 3:56Speaker 1: grits for you. I said all right, and I never
- 3:58Speaker 1: got around to it. The guy calls me back and says, hey,
- 4:00Speaker 1: did you did you try the grid seasoning? Like, na,
- 4:02Speaker 1: I'm done it yet, and and then I don't know.
- 4:05Speaker 1: A week later I told my wife, hey, let's try
- 4:07Speaker 1: these grids. Bruce Sean. When I tried those grids, and
- 4:11Speaker 1: oh my god, you got something. And you know, he
- 4:15Speaker 1: and I went back and forth collaborating on changing the
- 4:17Speaker 1: seasoning and changing this and that, and we finally got
- 4:20Speaker 1: what we want. So um, that heart and Soul is
- 4:24Speaker 1: the original, and that that that uh that that that
- 4:27Speaker 1: spicy one is the next one behind it. And then
- 4:28Speaker 1: I gotta go. You know, you know is always a
- 4:31Speaker 1: grits debate, right right right? You want sugar in your grips,
- 4:36Speaker 1: Always that debate. So so I'm coming up with Swede
- 4:40Speaker 1: and Sassy so we can have a sleeping Okay, okay,
- 4:44Speaker 1: so we got the whole world of grits coming, man,
- 4:47Speaker 1: So next month, be on the lookout. I'm gonna be
- 4:49Speaker 1: calling you. But I'm gonna want to be on here
- 4:51Speaker 1: again so I can talk about these grids. Well, first
- 4:53Speaker 1: of all, you know what, like Wenna, turn your weight,
- 4:54Speaker 1: we're talking about grits because both of us from Houston, Texas,
- 4:57Speaker 1: so we Southern boys, and so because grit's man. You know,
- 5:01Speaker 1: when you get the real black people, the black people
- 5:03Speaker 1: in the you know that grit stuff, that grit talk.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Because you know, if we forgot the bacon and grease,
- 5:08Speaker 1: the bacon grease, they go over grits to man, because
- 5:10Speaker 1: grits has so much love to remember, Steve, Steve Arby's
- 5:13Speaker 1: the love when I cook grits, because you know I
- 5:15Speaker 1: can cook grit So when I saw grits as part
- 5:19Speaker 1: of your you know, your entupreturit newership. You know you
- 5:21Speaker 1: can get a lot of all you do, T shirts,
- 5:23Speaker 1: you do, prank phone calls, you do a lot of
- 5:25Speaker 1: great things. But but to go into this venture called
- 5:28Speaker 1: Just Good Grits, that's grit with a Z dot com.
- 5:31Speaker 1: You can go check it out right now, Just Good
- 5:33Speaker 1: Grits Z instead of the S dot com. You can
- 5:36Speaker 1: see right now. It has hard and soul and spicy love.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Because when I saw your image on the box, I
- 5:42Speaker 1: just I just started smiling, Thomas, I really did, man,
- 5:46Speaker 1: Thank you, man, thank you. And you know what you
- 5:48Speaker 1: got me thinking When my mama used to cook grits.
- 5:51Speaker 1: She would cook the grits and then you would mix
- 5:53Speaker 1: the eggs in there with Hey, hey, Thomas, right if
- 5:57Speaker 1: you you know, you know it's so many once you
- 6:00Speaker 1: start doing. That's why I told you I'm dropping my
- 6:03Speaker 1: TV show called Rashaan's Kitchen in Atlanta. Two million homes
- 6:07Speaker 1: gonna be a Comcast tune E five A T and
- 6:09Speaker 1: T U Verse channel six May six, that's when it drops.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I want to be able to, you know, cook your
- 6:17Speaker 1: grids on there because I do breakfast. You know, I
- 6:19Speaker 1: love soft eggs. I do eggs over each I do
- 6:21Speaker 1: the bacon, I do toads, I do biscuits. I have
- 6:24Speaker 1: my boat ridding this. God done this calm bread. So
- 6:26Speaker 1: I really want to just like, so you have to
- 6:28Speaker 1: be on there. As soon as I get my order
- 6:31Speaker 1: from you, I'm gonna put it online. Sick of pictures
- 6:33Speaker 1: because people just love the fact that I cook. They
- 6:36Speaker 1: always I get a lot of engagement. So I'm just excited.
- 6:39Speaker 1: But I just love the fact that I saw that
- 6:40Speaker 1: picture you and on the box, and I'm a day
- 6:44Speaker 1: some time. I'm not even laughing in a like a
- 6:47Speaker 1: bad way. It's just like it's a prideful thing because
- 6:50Speaker 1: that's a that's that's possible. Man. You can be in Krogers,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you can be in public, you can be in all
- 6:57Speaker 1: these stordinationswide just on the dream. Tell about that. You
- 7:01Speaker 1: know what, rich Man, You know, I learned this from you.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I learned this from Steve Harvey. It's about connections, It's
- 7:07Speaker 1: about you know, capitalizing on it when you know that
- 7:09Speaker 1: they're there, when you know the opportunity is there. Um,
- 7:13Speaker 1: you know, I live in Houston, Texas, so you know
- 7:15Speaker 1: I have put my ear to the street on what
- 7:17Speaker 1: does it take to get a product in an in
- 7:22Speaker 1: an h g B in a Kroger, you know, and
- 7:24Speaker 1: we don't see many black products on the shelf. So
- 7:27Speaker 1: I did the groundwork and found out what it taken out.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Like is that it? You know? And I'm saying they say,
- 7:33Speaker 1: you know, if you get about fifty sixty dollars in
- 7:36Speaker 1: sales online, you are now eligible and available to possibly
- 7:41Speaker 1: be in h g B. So my thing is what
- 7:44Speaker 1: I got a million plus people following me on on
- 7:47Speaker 1: every social media outlet you can think of. Surely I
- 7:51Speaker 1: can sell for sending them some grants, you know. So
- 7:55Speaker 1: I'm just doing the map, saying it it all makes
- 7:58Speaker 1: sense and um, and conected with people who are in
- 8:02Speaker 1: the heads up of of h g B. So it's
- 8:04Speaker 1: right there. If I don't do it, it makes no sense. Man,
- 8:07Speaker 1: Well it don't make any sense. But more importantly, it
- 8:10Speaker 1: makes sense that you're talking about relationships. H g B
- 8:14Speaker 1: is like that's a power broker you know, Diday top
- 8:17Speaker 1: quality of the line. We talked about everybody shops there
- 8:20Speaker 1: in h G B and then get into these Krogers.
- 8:23Speaker 1: But I'm just tell you, man, I was just so
- 8:25Speaker 1: happy and it just maybe smile just seeing your face
- 8:29Speaker 1: on a box of grids. Man. And I mean and
- 8:31Speaker 1: I and I you know, because there's a black person man,
- 8:33Speaker 1: we grow up and and and and you know, either
- 8:36Speaker 1: the anti Mamas and Uncle Bin's and all that stuff.
- 8:40Speaker 1: And I know who you are. You're graduate of Texas
- 8:42Speaker 1: and them. You know what I'm saying. You you you
- 8:45Speaker 1: know you're you're a businessman. So you're kind of like
- 8:47Speaker 1: breaking the model of what has been portrayed up black people.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And you've been breaking the morrow long time, all the
- 8:54Speaker 1: way back to Texas. And then talk about that. Not
- 8:56Speaker 1: have to slow you down, because sometimes we just be
- 8:58Speaker 1: doing stuff time and we realize what we're doing. But
- 9:02Speaker 1: but it's it was a much more prideful theme more
- 9:04Speaker 1: than the fact that I knew you. But I was
- 9:06Speaker 1: more proud when I saw that that that when I
- 9:09Speaker 1: went to the website Just Good Grits and I saw
- 9:11Speaker 1: that dot com, I went, wow, it's my board man.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Look at him on that box man, and I knew
- 9:15Speaker 1: who you were to I knew what you represented as
- 9:18Speaker 1: a man, but they just talk about that, you know what,
- 9:21Speaker 1: It's been a journey man, um. I mean you you
- 9:24Speaker 1: were there at the beginning. You put me on stage
- 9:27Speaker 1: the first time I ever got on stage and doing
- 9:29Speaker 1: stand up, and uh, it's just been a journey. So
- 9:32Speaker 1: you know, at some point in my life, I feel like,
- 9:34Speaker 1: you know, there's a there's a book coming, you know,
- 9:36Speaker 1: a funny thing happened on the way to Hollywood, you know,
- 9:39Speaker 1: And it's just the journey of every stop that I've made.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I I had no idea I was gonna be doing
- 9:44Speaker 1: stand up. I had no idea I was going to
- 9:47Speaker 1: be doing radio. I mean I was a theater major
- 9:49Speaker 1: thinking that, you know, like all theater majors. Okay, I'm
- 9:51Speaker 1: going I'm on my way to Broadway. Now, let me
- 9:53Speaker 1: go to New York and that's where I will begetting
- 9:56Speaker 1: my career. That's what you think. But you have no
- 9:58Speaker 1: idea what your journey is gonna be, and you have
- 10:00Speaker 1: to be really open about where your steps are going.
- 10:04Speaker 1: And and sometimes the journey you sometimes you need every
- 10:07Speaker 1: stop along that journey to get where you are to
- 10:10Speaker 1: be able to look back and say, you know what,
- 10:12Speaker 1: I respect where I've been. I respect the whole journey
- 10:14Speaker 1: God has sent me through and and now here I am.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I'm a lot more mature, a lot less crazy than I.
- 10:23Speaker 1: You know, so so uh, you know, you you just
- 10:26Speaker 1: you grow up and and you learn and you you
- 10:28Speaker 1: you become a little bit more um clear about what
- 10:32Speaker 1: you need to be in the in the journey that
- 10:34Speaker 1: you're on and how to keep going for it and
- 10:37Speaker 1: and not uh not thinking that you can't do something.
- 10:40Speaker 1: So when I saw something like the Grids, I'm like,
- 10:41Speaker 1: you know what, I can do this. Let me, let me,
- 10:44Speaker 1: let me put my resources together, because I have too
- 10:46Speaker 1: many resources not not to make it. You know, they
- 10:49Speaker 1: say it's six degrees of separation. I think I'm I
- 10:52Speaker 1: think I'm two or three phone calls from anybody. So
- 10:55Speaker 1: it can be done. So I just I just don't
- 10:57Speaker 1: tell myself that it can't happen. I'm always is pressing
- 11:01Speaker 1: forward on we can do this if we want to do.
- 11:03Speaker 1: It's finally here the season of celebration, and no matter
- 11:06Speaker 1: how you celebrate with family and friends, whether you're preparing
- 11:10Speaker 1: for reis magos or karamu lighting the Manura are going
- 11:13Speaker 1: to midnight mass. Coals has just what you need to

- 11:37Speaker 1: and under Armour. And in the spirit of giving, Coals
- 11:40Speaker 1: Cares is donating eight million dollars to local nonprofits nationwide
- 11:44Speaker 1: committed to the health and well being of our communities.
- 11:47Speaker 1: No matter how you celebrate, when you shop at Coals,
- 11:51Speaker 1: you're right where you belong. So this season, give with
- 11:54Speaker 1: all your heart with great gifts from Coals or Coals
- 11:57Speaker 1: dot Com. If I could be you and you could
- 12:00Speaker 1: be me for just what hour, If you could find
- 12:03Speaker 1: a way to get inside each other's mind, walk a
- 12:06Speaker 1: mile in my shoes, wac a mile in my shoes,
- 12:10Speaker 1: walco shoes. We've all felt left out, and for some
- 12:14Speaker 1: that feeling lasts more than a moment. We can change that,
- 12:18Speaker 1: learn how it belonging begins with us dot org brought
- 12:21Speaker 1: to you by the AD Council walcome mile in machines.
- 12:29Speaker 1: What grows in the forest trees? Sure you know what
- 12:32Speaker 1: else grows in the forest, Our imagination, our sense of wonder,
- 12:37Speaker 1: and our family bonds grow too, because when we disconnect
- 12:40Speaker 1: from this and connect with this, we reconnect with each other.
- 12:47Speaker 1: The forest is closer than you think. Find a forest
- 12:50Speaker 1: near you and start exploring. I discover the forest dot
- 12:54Speaker 1: org brought to you by the United States Forest Service
- 12:56Speaker 1: and the AD Council. Or you know, the beauty of
- 12:59Speaker 1: you man is that you know. It's that you know
- 13:02Speaker 1: when you're under umbrella of Steve Harvey's brand, you know
- 13:05Speaker 1: the Steve want to show. But the prank phone calls
- 13:09Speaker 1: has enabled you to separate yourself as a true individual,
- 13:13Speaker 1: true gifted talent, which has led to other things, other
- 13:15Speaker 1: acting things. We're gonna get you ready for love. But
- 13:17Speaker 1: I want to just dissect that whole prank phone called
- 13:20Speaker 1: brand that you built. You know, there's this popular on YouTube,
- 13:25Speaker 1: you know generates income, you know. Let me say this though,
- 13:28Speaker 1: Here's what Here's what the listeners don't know is what
- 13:31Speaker 1: I first started doing these prank phone calls. The one
- 13:34Speaker 1: and only Rushan McDonald said, I won't fire every week?
- 13:40Speaker 1: What I won't five every week? And you know what,
- 13:45Speaker 1: I used to think that was just bananas. I used
- 13:47Speaker 1: to say, he has lost his mind if you think
- 13:49Speaker 1: I can do this that many times a week. But
- 13:51Speaker 1: what that did for me. You got me to over
- 13:56Speaker 1: three hundred prank calls laying in the cut. I now
- 13:59Speaker 1: have that many. And and what it is, Rashan, is
- 14:03Speaker 1: you know it's a little difficult now for me to
- 14:06Speaker 1: to do the pranks sometimes because everybody is called on
- 14:09Speaker 1: and they know nephew Timmy's boys. But back then, when
- 14:12Speaker 1: I was first starting, they didn't know that. So I
- 14:15Speaker 1: was able to build this whole archive at that time.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And now I look back and say, oh my god,
- 14:22Speaker 1: Rushan McDonald, if he wouldn't have made me going there,
- 14:25Speaker 1: go into the studio cut these uh these prank calls,
- 14:29Speaker 1: I would not have had this type of library at all.
- 14:33Speaker 1: And I say, thank you, brother, thank you for cracking
- 14:37Speaker 1: that whip on me, putting it on me like going
- 14:39Speaker 1: there and do do what you wanted me to do.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I thought I thought you had lost your mind. But
- 14:44Speaker 1: now I look back and say, oh my god. And
- 14:46Speaker 1: Rushan now you know, like we were talking about resources
- 14:49Speaker 1: before you know, I went to um. Yolanda Adams asked her,
- 14:53Speaker 1: you know, how do I get my stuff? Like like
- 14:55Speaker 1: you got your your your CDs in Walmart? How do
- 14:58Speaker 1: I do that? Yolanda Adams made one phone call and
- 15:01Speaker 1: the next thing I know, I was in Walmart and
- 15:05Speaker 1: my first check and and one month out of Walmart
- 15:08Speaker 1: was about sixty some thousand dollars and I was blown away.
- 15:11Speaker 1: And and here I am sitting on all these pranks.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Go you made me going there and through these pranks.
- 15:19Speaker 1: And I look back to Dave ru shan Man, and
- 15:22Speaker 1: you know, every month YouTube sends me a check for
- 15:25Speaker 1: my prank phone call. So brother, thank you so much,
- 15:28Speaker 1: thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm grateful, thank you
- 15:32Speaker 1: for the couple of me. But you know, it all
- 15:33Speaker 1: comes back to talent. I always tell people, you know
- 15:35Speaker 1: a lot of people. You know, I'm a pusher, you
- 15:37Speaker 1: know that, but I pushed people who are feel But
- 15:40Speaker 1: one thing that you work hard, never take that away
- 15:42Speaker 1: from you. And then the fact that you're you're gifted,
- 15:45Speaker 1: and and and all the way back to your sister,
- 15:48Speaker 1: sister days. You know, I was casting your sister, sister,
- 15:51Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, as the sharef as the
- 15:53Speaker 1: shaff as the police officer. You know, you know. But
- 15:56Speaker 1: that's the people that the statements about when you talk
- 15:58Speaker 1: about six degree relationships and all that holding onto you know,
- 16:01Speaker 1: doing some things that you're uncomfortable with when I say that,
- 16:04Speaker 1: sometimes you do things you're not paid for. That's the
- 16:05Speaker 1: uncomfortable part. Whether it's this, when does this endgame go to?
- 16:09Speaker 1: But the problem is that when people look at your brand,
- 16:12Speaker 1: they don't understand that it's a lot of work. You know,
- 16:15Speaker 1: there's a lot of fun. You're getting up every day.
- 16:17Speaker 1: You have to be topical. You have to be ready.
- 16:19Speaker 1: You're talking, we're working one of the biggest stars in
- 16:21Speaker 1: the world. You never know what comes out of his
- 16:23Speaker 1: head or direction. He gonna go on sometime and you
- 16:26Speaker 1: gotta be ready for that. And so that whole process
- 16:28Speaker 1: that led you to be able to go into different
- 16:30Speaker 1: acting scenarios. But that that prank phone call, man, I
- 16:33Speaker 1: remember when I asked you that I knew we would
- 16:35Speaker 1: own to something. And you've done some CLAXI brother, You've
- 16:38Speaker 1: done celebrity and frank phone calls you. But the beauty
- 16:41Speaker 1: of it is that man, you just you were able
- 16:43Speaker 1: to manipulate you remember when they remember what one time
- 16:46Speaker 1: they was when they when you couldn't do prank phone call,
- 16:49Speaker 1: you had to get permission, ridden permission, and they tried
- 16:52Speaker 1: to shut you down. You figure that out. You're not
- 16:54Speaker 1: worry about I got this, I got this, and it
- 16:56Speaker 1: was just you know, but you you didn't allow this.
- 16:59Speaker 1: You know, you you actually moved the needle or maintain
- 17:02Speaker 1: your brand. And so I take the cadus of the
- 17:05Speaker 1: thank you and all that, but I also get back
- 17:07Speaker 1: the hard work. When they were when legally it was
- 17:10Speaker 1: in the position to shut down your prank phone call,
- 17:12Speaker 1: you pushed through that and you move hard, move forward,
- 17:15Speaker 1: and then that leads you to your comedy days. And
- 17:17Speaker 1: so I'm just letting everybody know that Nephew Tommy is
- 17:20Speaker 1: a brand. Y'all Thomas Miles the individual, but Nephew Tommy
- 17:23Speaker 1: is a brand. Talk about that Nephew Tommy brands? Uh wow,
- 17:29Speaker 1: you know what and and and and you already know
- 17:31Speaker 1: that they're really both two different people. Shot you know
- 17:33Speaker 1: that two different people, but that brand. I had no
- 17:38Speaker 1: idea that it was gonna soar to this um to
- 17:43Speaker 1: put me on on the platform that I'm on. Um,
- 17:45Speaker 1: you guys gave me an opportunity on the radio and
- 17:48Speaker 1: we you know, you took a shot at me and
- 17:51Speaker 1: and and it worked. The character itself, that that whole personna,
- 17:56Speaker 1: it worked, and it just started building. And the next thing,
- 17:59Speaker 1: you know, you know, the whole name Thomas Miles had
- 18:02Speaker 1: just completely gotten washed away. And it was Hey, I
- 18:04Speaker 1: am this guy, nephew Tommy and and and you know,
- 18:07Speaker 1: you just start building on it. What can I do
- 18:09Speaker 1: with it? I don't want to just sit on it
- 18:12Speaker 1: and not not capitalized on on this opportunity I'm working for,
- 18:16Speaker 1: you know, um so so this is one of the
- 18:18Speaker 1: biggest guys in the in the business. So I have
- 18:21Speaker 1: to figure out how to make this work. Even though
- 18:24Speaker 1: I'm underneath his umbrella, how do I still step out
- 18:27Speaker 1: and shine a little bit and and make something my own?
- 18:30Speaker 1: And I think this, um, you know, the pranks underneath
- 18:33Speaker 1: A few time me going out and doing stand up.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Uh you and I did it. We did a tour
- 18:38Speaker 1: together where you know, I was able to really showcase
- 18:41Speaker 1: the characters that that all trapped inside my head and
- 18:45Speaker 1: and and being able to display that. But I think
- 18:48Speaker 1: it all goes back to we want to see this guy,
- 18:52Speaker 1: nephew Tommy that we here on the radio. We want
- 18:55Speaker 1: to see what he has from a stand up perspective.
- 18:58Speaker 1: So when they came to see me, they had no
- 19:00Speaker 1: idea what they were gonna get, and and to you know,
- 19:03Speaker 1: to to set up a show the way I did,
- 19:05Speaker 1: coming out first giving them fifty five minutes off the top,
- 19:10Speaker 1: and then in between each comedian to give them different
- 19:13Speaker 1: characters of of of me. Um. I think it was different.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I think it was something that was very unexpected, and
- 19:20Speaker 1: that that even strengthened that a few timey brands. So um.
- 19:25Speaker 1: You know, as we now move forward, it's like, Okay,
- 19:27Speaker 1: what else can I do? Right? I don't. I don't
- 19:30Speaker 1: want to stop, you know, I want to I want
- 19:31Speaker 1: to keep reaching for everything I can reach for. So
- 19:34Speaker 1: I'm reaching for grits. Now, let's see what I do
- 19:36Speaker 1: with the grits. And we just keep going on and on. Man, Well,
- 19:39Speaker 1: I say a few time in the comedy club Las Vegas, Okay,
- 19:42Speaker 1: Atlantic City, Okay, I'm just saying, you know, you know
- 19:45Speaker 1: I think that I don't I don't think small. I
- 19:47Speaker 1: think big when I see the opportunity because you got
- 19:49Speaker 1: the marketing tool, you got the social media, and so
- 19:52Speaker 1: these things are really special. And when you start building
- 19:54Speaker 1: out the relationship, you have to realize that, you know,
- 19:57Speaker 1: Tamarin Hall with you going on there with your grits
- 19:59Speaker 1: and all. That's the good stuff. But more importantly, the
- 20:02Speaker 1: part of the side of that I always loved by
- 20:04Speaker 1: Thomas is that he gave. He always give back. He
- 20:06Speaker 1: always gave back. And we were doing the military tour,
- 20:09Speaker 1: which you know, which was a great run for you
- 20:12Speaker 1: when you was going over to entertaining the troops, and
- 20:15Speaker 1: that that was a gear back that caught you, you know,
- 20:17Speaker 1: and you didn't see it comment before you dove in.
- 20:20Speaker 1: It was something that you was proud to be a
- 20:21Speaker 1: part of. Talk about that. Uh you know what, Ris Shanman,
- 20:26Speaker 1: I went over there, uh with with not knowing what
- 20:29Speaker 1: to expect. Uh. Did two of those USO tours actually,
- 20:33Speaker 1: um my my first one was I was with Robert Ory.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I was with Jordan's Sparks, who one American idol young
- 20:41Speaker 1: lady named Minka Kelly and actress. So they had quite
- 20:43Speaker 1: a few other talents there and and but I was
- 20:46Speaker 1: the guy that had to be that person that hopes
- 20:50Speaker 1: that you know, I call it the black Bob hope yes, yes, yes,
- 20:54Speaker 1: go over and perform for the troops. And I was
- 20:57Speaker 1: just blown away by what I saw, just just the
- 21:00Speaker 1: you know, the front line, the people that represent the country.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I couldn't believe how they put their lives on the line.
- 21:06Speaker 1: And um, we were we were visiting hospitals, and we
- 21:10Speaker 1: were in one guy's particular room and he had just
- 21:12Speaker 1: come out of surgery and um, he said, um, when
- 21:16Speaker 1: he woke up, we were we were all standing around
- 21:18Speaker 1: his bed. I mean, he has just woken up from
- 21:21Speaker 1: surgery and his his his both his legs have been
- 21:24Speaker 1: blown completely on. He's just coming out and he says,
- 21:28Speaker 1: you know, I would love to take pictures with you guys,
- 21:31Speaker 1: but I gotta go. I gotta get back to my
- 21:33Speaker 1: men that they're waiting for me. And he doesn't even
- 21:37Speaker 1: realize what has happened to him. And man, we're standing
- 21:40Speaker 1: there around and with tears running down our face, and
- 21:42Speaker 1: and when we left, you know, we're heading back to
- 21:45Speaker 1: the States. That's one of the chief officers. You know,
- 21:48Speaker 1: what happens to these people when they get back home,
- 21:51Speaker 1: and he said, well, you know, you know, you know
- 21:53Speaker 1: American texts care. We take care of our soldiers. I say, well,
- 21:56Speaker 1: how long does that take? He said, well, sometimes it
- 21:58Speaker 1: takes a minute, because you know, you gotta go through
- 22:00Speaker 1: all of the procedures and so what. And I was
- 22:03Speaker 1: like wow. So I came back and created miles of giving,
- 22:07Speaker 1: uh and miles of giving as well. We give to
- 22:10Speaker 1: you right now, regardless of your circumstances. We give to
- 22:15Speaker 1: you right then and there. So so um if if
- 22:18Speaker 1: if you know, fifteen hundred dollars two thousand dollars, who shine,
- 22:21Speaker 1: you'll be surprised what that means in a right now situation.
- 22:26Speaker 1: And for somebody that's waiting on the government, that might
- 22:29Speaker 1: be three or four months, six months a year before
- 22:32Speaker 1: they start getting uh taken care of. So miles of
- 22:34Speaker 1: giving we are about right now. And we've been giving
- 22:38Speaker 1: back to women the veterans since um, I don't know,
- 22:40Speaker 1: two thousand twelve. I believe now open not for profit

- 24:00Speaker 1: Like I said, you know, you know that's a good
- 24:03Speaker 1: created out of the brand of Nephew Tommy. You know
- 24:05Speaker 1: that Nephew Tommy, that brother, that machine at business. You know,
- 24:08Speaker 1: I envisioned a warehouse just nephew Tommy logo on it, like,
- 24:12Speaker 1: you know, a hundred people working in the making T
- 24:14Speaker 1: shirts or mixing grid. You know, I think, you know,
- 24:17Speaker 1: doing charity engagements and all that stuff, because that's the vision, man,
- 24:21Speaker 1: because you you know, we all sit back, Thomas, because
- 24:23Speaker 1: we're both from Houston, and you know, you know, your
- 24:26Speaker 1: father was an amazing man who I always you know,
- 24:29Speaker 1: always loved the fact about your father was that you
- 24:31Speaker 1: actually live in your father's life. You know, he didn't
- 24:33Speaker 1: get a chance, you know, he became a blue collar
- 24:36Speaker 1: worker and he didn't get a chance to pursue the
- 24:39Speaker 1: entertainment career. Does that ever cross your mind, man, that
- 24:42Speaker 1: you know, you you was a track star, but then
- 24:44Speaker 1: you know you were so far away from what he was,
- 24:47Speaker 1: what his dream was. But now you're living his dream.
- 24:50Speaker 1: That really is an emotional moment, man, when I think
- 24:52Speaker 1: about it. You know what, Man, I had no idea.
- 24:55Speaker 1: You know, I was getting ready to um. You know,
- 24:57Speaker 1: I did all that. I did track all through high
- 24:59Speaker 1: schoo and uh and I also did drama all through
- 25:03Speaker 1: high school and I chose the drama scholarship and I
- 25:06Speaker 1: actually thought that I disappointed him, that I disappointed him
- 25:10Speaker 1: by not you didn't running track, you didn't. And man,
- 25:12Speaker 1: I'm getting ready to uh, getting ready to pull out
- 25:16Speaker 1: of the drive with him. My mother bought me a
- 25:18Speaker 1: brand new little Toyota pick up truck, and I'm getting
- 25:21Speaker 1: ready to go off to college and the whole better.
- 25:23Speaker 1: The truck is loaded and and that's when he's standing
- 25:26Speaker 1: there saying, um, you know you you you you got
- 25:29Speaker 1: my dream. I was like, what what do you What
- 25:31Speaker 1: are you talking about? Because keeps crying and I'm like,
- 25:33Speaker 1: what do you what's going on? He said, you got
- 25:36Speaker 1: my dream? I said. I said, no, I'm not. I'm
- 25:39Speaker 1: not running track, Pops. You know I'm I'm I'm gonna
- 25:42Speaker 1: pursue this theater thing. He said, yeah, you got my dream.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I said, what are you talking about? And that's when
- 25:49Speaker 1: he tells me that he was a theater major at
- 25:52Speaker 1: Texas Southern University and he had to drop out of
- 25:54Speaker 1: school because you had to help his mother and his
- 25:57Speaker 1: father helped raise his siblings because my dad was the oldest.
- 26:00Speaker 1: And he said, you got my dream, so it's up
- 26:02Speaker 1: to you to do something with What you're gonna do
- 26:04Speaker 1: with my dream. So, Um, I hope, I'm I hope
- 26:07Speaker 1: I'm making a proud brother looking at Thomas. First of all,
- 26:10Speaker 1: you made him proud. You know what I'm saying, Uh,
- 26:13Speaker 1: I know what you did before he passed away, and
- 26:15Speaker 1: I know what you're doing that. That's why I you
- 26:17Speaker 1: know when I before we got on the cars that Thomas,
- 26:20Speaker 1: I want to slow this down, I said, because I
- 26:22Speaker 1: know him so well. Sometimes I missed these moments in
- 26:25Speaker 1: conversation because you just blow past him. You think that
- 26:27Speaker 1: they let's not talk about that. But I knew that.
- 26:30Speaker 1: You know, one of my greater just poems, I didn't
- 26:32Speaker 1: get to meet your dad. You know, I told you that.
- 26:34Speaker 1: I said, Man, I'm so mad, Bro, I'm so mad
- 26:36Speaker 1: because because you know, you know, because the stories, you know,
- 26:40Speaker 1: the chief of jacsonally got up there man and touch
- 26:42Speaker 1: on the stories. Man, I just didn't do we hafybody,
- 26:46Speaker 1: yn't do it, halfybody Home Depot legends and that's just
- 26:53Speaker 1: the beauty. So so that's why I really love the
- 26:55Speaker 1: fact that now they're ready for love. You know, came
- 26:58Speaker 1: back to Houston, Thomas came back to youth to tell
- 27:02Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying, man, your dad, your family, your mob,
- 27:05Speaker 1: bought the house for her, all these things. Man to
- 27:09Speaker 1: bring your your gifts because a lot of people doubt.
- 27:12Speaker 1: You know, I know when I quit IBM and told
- 27:14Speaker 1: people I want to do stand up comedy. Yeah, okay,
- 27:17Speaker 1: really next day to Murphy right right right, So a
- 27:20Speaker 1: lot of people question that process because it's not a
- 27:22Speaker 1: nine to five jobs. They don't understand. But Brother to
- 27:25Speaker 1: bring Ready for Love. Let's tell us about Let's tell
- 27:28Speaker 1: everybody what Ready for Love is and then we will
- 27:30Speaker 1: talk about bringing it back to Houston. Let me tell
- 27:32Speaker 1: you this, okay, But those that don't know, Ready to
- 27:34Speaker 1: Love is a is a dating show, and uh, it's
- 27:37Speaker 1: not your typical dating show. You know, your typical dating show.
- 27:40Speaker 1: People are in the twenties, life is just getting started.
- 27:44Speaker 1: This is different. These people in their thirties, forties, some
- 27:47Speaker 1: are in their fifties. People have been married, gotten divorced.
- 27:50Speaker 1: You even have people who are mostly career driven, having
- 27:54Speaker 1: taken time to find a relationship and they come on
- 27:58Speaker 1: Ready to Love. So we start out with twenty singles,
- 28:01Speaker 1: ten men and ten women, and it's a it's a
- 28:05Speaker 1: process of elimination. The powershifts back and forth from the
- 28:08Speaker 1: men to the women. Women eliminate men, men eliminate women.
- 28:12Speaker 1: And it's a ten week journey and at the end
- 28:15Speaker 1: of that ten weeks, we wind up with six people,
- 28:18Speaker 1: six people, three couples who have hopefully found love. That
- 28:23Speaker 1: is that's the prize. There is no million dollars, no
- 28:27Speaker 1: trip around the world. Love is the prize. That's what
- 28:30Speaker 1: you win. I am your host, I'm your your cupid,
- 28:33Speaker 1: your love coach, whatever you wanna call it. And I
- 28:37Speaker 1: navigate and got these people on this journey of finding
- 28:41Speaker 1: love and it is. It is very exciting because people
- 28:43Speaker 1: are tuning in every Friday night on the own network
- 28:47Speaker 1: to um. You know, people are trying to pair it up.
- 28:49Speaker 1: You know, who do I think is gonna make it
- 28:51Speaker 1: to the end and who I think it's gonna connect with? Who?
- 28:53Speaker 1: And it's just a great grown and sexy show. People
- 28:56Speaker 1: are loving it. We're not we're not on their fight
- 28:58Speaker 1: and we're not throwing drinks and the thank you, thank you.
- 29:02Speaker 1: We are having a good time and ready to love us. Now.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Uh here we are in Houston again, um and and
- 29:08Speaker 1: and it's beautiful that we are. We're showing off our city.
- 29:12Speaker 1: People get to see what Houston is all about, some
- 29:14Speaker 1: of the night areas, some of the great locations and
- 29:17Speaker 1: monumental places in Houston that people don't know about. So,
- 29:20Speaker 1: you know, I think sometimes when people think Texas, they
- 29:22Speaker 1: think we got a horse sitting outside of the house.
- 29:24Speaker 1: That's not the case. This is a you may turkey
- 29:28Speaker 1: leg hut, the turkey leg hut. So we definitely put
- 29:31Speaker 1: the turkey leg hut on it. But sure so in
- 29:34Speaker 1: all those tuff in those type of places, you know,
- 29:35Speaker 1: even the breakfast club, you know, people those black owned
- 29:38Speaker 1: business that we wanted to make sure we we gave
- 29:40Speaker 1: them the spotlight and we did that. So I'm excited
- 29:43Speaker 1: about this season. Man. Well, you know the thing about
- 29:45Speaker 1: it is that you got the call from our board,
- 29:47Speaker 1: Will Pack you know who, you know, we we we
- 29:50Speaker 1: watched him grow to you know, I'm saying that Steve
- 29:52Speaker 1: and I was blessed to have a relationship on the
- 29:54Speaker 1: Think Like a Man, Want would You Appear? And Thinking
- 29:57Speaker 1: Like a Man movie, And he also did Think like
- 29:58Speaker 1: a Man too, and that we all, I know, that
- 30:00Speaker 1: was the lunch for Kevin Hart's career, now, was those
- 30:03Speaker 1: two movies. So him making that phone call to you,
- 30:06Speaker 1: he had already known about the cash and previous movie.
- 30:08Speaker 1: How was the what was the thought process of him
- 30:11Speaker 1: telling you want to host because your stand up? You know,
- 30:13Speaker 1: so a lot of things run through your mind. Am
- 30:15Speaker 1: I gonna be funny? What can I do? And so?
- 30:18Speaker 1: But you had to be almost like a straight shooter
- 30:20Speaker 1: in this situation and also take these relationships seriously. Talk
- 30:24Speaker 1: about that. How you have to process that, you know
- 30:27Speaker 1: what ever're something? First, the first was the phone call.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Because the phone call, I thought I was being pranked
- 30:34Speaker 1: only somebody got me, you know. But but Will hit
- 30:37Speaker 1: me up and said, hey, man, I I got something
- 30:39Speaker 1: for you. And you know, you know how Hollywood is
- 30:41Speaker 1: we sorrying people always say hey, I'm gonna have something
- 30:44Speaker 1: for you know, I have my people call your people. Okay, No,
- 30:47Speaker 1: We'll called directly and said I got something for you.
- 30:50Speaker 1: And I was like okay, and uh, I was overwhelmed. Man,
- 30:53Speaker 1: you know, I get teary eyed. I was all emotional,
- 30:56Speaker 1: but I was grateful that he called me. He said, man,
- 30:59Speaker 1: you and your white uh have been together for a
- 31:02Speaker 1: long time. This is for you. So I had to
- 31:06Speaker 1: digest this as how do I take this in? Do
- 31:09Speaker 1: I take this in as as a comedian, because like
- 31:13Speaker 1: you're saying, I can't. We're not on there cracking jokes
- 31:15Speaker 1: when people are really seriously trying to find a relationship.
- 31:18Speaker 1: So I had to find a balance between the two
- 31:21Speaker 1: and and really, Rishan, if you if you think about it,
- 31:24Speaker 1: I kind of blended Thomas Myles and nephew tim Me together.
- 31:29Speaker 1: You know, you get a little bit of a little
- 31:30Speaker 1: bit of a ballots so both of the boys get
- 31:32Speaker 1: to play, you know, so you know, everybody knows Thomas
- 31:36Speaker 1: Miles is pretty serious, but if you time me, you
- 31:38Speaker 1: know he he likes to have fun. So a little blend.
- 31:41Speaker 1: And then of course, um just just just you know,
- 31:45Speaker 1: a guy that's been married for a long time, even
- 31:49Speaker 1: my parents who were married up until the day my
- 31:51Speaker 1: father left here, I have nothing but that to go
- 31:55Speaker 1: off of, which is a great mold to look at.
- 31:58Speaker 1: So you know, I'm not I'm not a I'm not
- 32:01Speaker 1: a person that has a textbook for this. I don't
- 32:04Speaker 1: have a formula. All I can do is trying to
- 32:06Speaker 1: share with these people that are trying to find love
- 32:09Speaker 1: what I've gone through and what I've seen my folks
- 32:11Speaker 1: go through, and give them honest, true advice and that's
- 32:14Speaker 1: what they like about it. Well, you know, I want
- 32:16Speaker 1: to close the show in this whole scenario ready to love,
- 32:20Speaker 1: because you know I built this character a few times
- 32:23Speaker 1: with you and you was able to grow to this
- 32:25Speaker 1: amazing persona that is today. But along the way, it
- 32:28Speaker 1: was a young lady that we that that loved you.
- 32:31Speaker 1: You know, had children with you, had a couple of
- 32:34Speaker 1: a couple of I mean a couple of TV shows,
- 32:37Speaker 1: you know, but you know you have to go through
- 32:39Speaker 1: a point where you know you you were a single
- 32:41Speaker 1: guy on the radio. You know, I'm saying she had
- 32:44Speaker 1: just stand by that ignorance. You know, I'm saying with Shu,
- 32:47Speaker 1: I'll be single baby, Okay, okay, And now you know
- 32:51Speaker 1: you're back and used. And she made an appearance on
- 32:53Speaker 1: the show. Just talk about her. Man having that that
- 32:55Speaker 1: that soldier, that female soldier by your side all these
- 32:59Speaker 1: years on. You know what she's she's she's that ride
- 33:03Speaker 1: of die man. Um. You know we first started out,
- 33:07Speaker 1: I didn't have no money, I and nothing. You know,
- 33:09Speaker 1: she was the one with with the good job and
- 33:12Speaker 1: and um you know engineer out of Texas, A and
- 33:15Speaker 1: M so she was holding us together. Man, and um,
- 33:18Speaker 1: you know, I just you know, I I I wanted
- 33:22Speaker 1: to make sure I stepped up for someone that had
- 33:24Speaker 1: so much confidence in me and my career that had
- 33:28Speaker 1: hadn't even started yet, but just just just told me
- 33:31Speaker 1: that I could do it. Um. You know, it got
- 33:34Speaker 1: to the point once I got on the radio with
- 33:36Speaker 1: you guys and things started to turn. You know, that's
- 33:40Speaker 1: when I wanted to put the shoe on the other foot,
- 33:42Speaker 1: where you know, my wife don't have to work no more.
- 33:44Speaker 1: And and I love that. I love the fact that
- 33:47Speaker 1: she carried the load. I mean, think about Rush even
- 33:50Speaker 1: the cars I had and it was hers. They wasn't mine.
- 33:55Speaker 1: I had nothing, So so you know, you know, she
- 34:00Speaker 1: she she took care of me. We wrote it out.
- 34:02Speaker 1: And to be able to to um turn around and
- 34:06Speaker 1: give her the world and then for a TV show
- 34:09Speaker 1: to come back to my hometown. And then you put
- 34:12Speaker 1: your queen on that with you. Uh, you can't write that,
