- 1:48Speaker 1: my life man since ninety four. I'm from Houston, Texas.
- 1:52Speaker 1: He's up in that Dallas, Dallas area, Texas. Boy. Please
- 1:56Speaker 1: welcome Kurt Franklin. How you dork, Kurt, How you're doing man? Well,
- 2:01Speaker 1: welcome to my new studio, Curry. I'm trying to do it, man,
- 2:03Speaker 1: I'm trying to step up man in my game. Man.
- 2:06Speaker 1: You know, man, you look good, brother, look good. You
- 2:08Speaker 1: got a little flex happening up in that love it.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Thank you. How you been doing? Man? You know we're
- 2:12Speaker 1: coming out of going into one. We're talking about new podcast.
- 2:16Speaker 1: But let's let's step back a little bit and talk
- 2:19Speaker 1: about because it sent me through a lot of changes,
- 2:22Speaker 1: tested my faith, tested my patience, sent me through some
- 2:26Speaker 1: emotional physical change. That game weight, loss, weight, and anxiety
- 2:30Speaker 1: is about the COVID nineteen. My family and my wife
- 2:33Speaker 1: she still won't go to in a restaurant, out in public.
- 2:35Speaker 1: She would take to go, but did she suspect of
- 2:37Speaker 1: it coming into the house. So how did it impact
- 2:40Speaker 1: your family and the people who follow you and seek
- 2:42Speaker 1: your guidance. Well, once again, man, so honored to see
- 2:47Speaker 1: you and so proud to see you continue to just
- 2:50Speaker 1: really make impact, especially in our community. Uh, to be
- 2:54Speaker 1: able to give information that that that a lot of
- 2:58Speaker 1: times were systemically hidden from us. It was part of
- 3:01Speaker 1: the plan for us to not always gather the information
- 3:04Speaker 1: or to be able to pass the information, and for
- 3:07Speaker 1: it to be transferable into the boardroom all the way
- 3:13Speaker 1: to the block. And I think that that's something that
- 3:16Speaker 1: is so needed. So I commention what you're doing. Yeah, man,
- 3:20Speaker 1: the pandemic, especially the fact that there was the word
- 3:26Speaker 1: I used, contemporaneous um several several pandemics happening at one time,
- 3:31Speaker 1: from George Floyd to to to to to um too,
- 3:37Speaker 1: our mothers and fathers getting sick and dying of the disease,
- 3:40Speaker 1: to all the the the political uprising against it, and
- 3:45Speaker 1: so UM, all of those things took a toll on
- 3:49Speaker 1: me in my family because I have a young black son,
- 3:52Speaker 1: and so UH continuing to see this uh, this this
- 3:59Speaker 1: UH hateful narrative that has been America's narrative for over
- 4:04Speaker 1: four hundred years. It's something that can be very daunting,
- 4:07Speaker 1: you know, and and it can really be fatiguing. And
- 4:11Speaker 1: so all of these things that happened at one time
- 4:14Speaker 1: in was something that continued to pull me. I had
- 4:18Speaker 1: to start going back to the UH to therapy myself.
- 4:20Speaker 1: You know, I'm a black man that is very proud
- 4:23Speaker 1: to UH acknowledge and promote UH psychological therapy UH psychiatry
- 4:30Speaker 1: for especially black men. But it was something that we
- 4:36Speaker 1: held onto each other as as a family, and and
- 4:39Speaker 1: it put me in a position where my faith really
- 4:42Speaker 1: had to be something that was not just priests, but
- 4:45Speaker 1: something that was lived in real time. And so that
- 4:48Speaker 1: was another chalice to really test me, to see how
- 4:50Speaker 1: much I believed and how ruded I was, and what
- 4:53Speaker 1: I was preaching and so or seeing in the doing
- 4:55Speaker 1: so is that I think that the battles were all intentional,
- 4:59Speaker 1: and I think that they were all um for our
- 5:02Speaker 1: good and to reset if we would allow it to
- 5:06Speaker 1: do that with the beauty of watching you. You know,
- 5:10Speaker 1: as a popular word in twenty the word pivot. You know,
- 5:13Speaker 1: if you can't do it live, how you do it virtual?
- 5:16Speaker 1: And you know you put concerts together, you brought people
- 5:18Speaker 1: together united, you did the verses. I believe how did
- 5:21Speaker 1: all that play into you reaching your I consider you.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I'm part of your congregation. I'm part of the Kirk
- 5:28Speaker 1: Franking compregation. And I say that because I'm not I'm
- 5:31Speaker 1: not a weekly church call. I might go to church,
- 5:34Speaker 1: you know, periodically, and I'm not saying I show up
- 5:36Speaker 1: on Eastern I showing I shot up on New Years
- 5:38Speaker 1: at Christmas. Sometimes I go with friends. But I am
- 5:41Speaker 1: a believer, and I think I'm one of your followers
- 5:44Speaker 1: because the way you approach your teachings and that's how
- 5:48Speaker 1: I can use that word. Teachings affect me positively and
- 5:51Speaker 1: your music motivates me. Do you get it a lot
- 5:55Speaker 1: from people? Second? Say that question again, please that say
- 6:00Speaker 1: do you get that a lot from people? How you
- 6:01Speaker 1: motivate them? Or a non church goers like me, you
- 6:05Speaker 1: know who believe. And I would say that's a negative
- 6:07Speaker 1: thing to the church goers. No, no no, no, no, no
- 6:09Speaker 1: no no no no. Let me let me say that
- 6:11Speaker 1: I'm honored at whatever capacity to be able to do
- 6:15Speaker 1: life with people, to to be able to be part
- 6:18Speaker 1: of people's journey for God to uh to loan me
- 6:23Speaker 1: words of music or whatever that I can borrow from him,
- 6:26Speaker 1: to just be a catalyst. Uh, That's something that I
- 6:30Speaker 1: take a great level of humility and responsibility in UM.
- 6:35Speaker 1: And it was never my intent to try to do
- 6:38Speaker 1: something that would be left of center. That was that
- 6:41Speaker 1: was that was never my attempt. I'm I'm just really
- 6:44Speaker 1: uh someone that is very sincere by my Christian faith
- 6:47Speaker 1: as well as also uh addressing all the areas of
- 6:52Speaker 1: revisionist history that has uh sometimes white washed the African
- 6:57Speaker 1: American uh sojourn through Christianity and what it was originally
- 7:04Speaker 1: and how Europe did not influence Africa, but Africa influence
- 7:07Speaker 1: Europe and uh, this monotheistic approach to faith. You know,
- 7:13Speaker 1: you're really interesting. I got another show working with business
- 7:17Speaker 1: manager stephen A Smith and you becoming. You'll be making
- 7:20Speaker 1: appearance up on one of our shows, I don't know
- 7:22Speaker 1: if you know about it, on that stephen A's World.
- 7:25Speaker 1: And I was excited that we were able to bring
- 7:27Speaker 1: your voice into the arena because, you know, because Steve
- 7:31Speaker 1: and I have sat down and said, you know, that's
- 7:32Speaker 1: a voice you never see in sports, like from the
- 7:34Speaker 1: perspective of who you are and you're so unique and
- 7:38Speaker 1: how you approach a life, Kirk, and how you approach
- 7:41Speaker 1: the gospel that I feel comfortable bringing you in that
- 7:43Speaker 1: arena because the way you talk, you just talking like
- 7:45Speaker 1: a regular person. I don't know. And like I said,
- 7:47Speaker 1: when I'm talking to you, I'm talking like I'm talking
- 7:49Speaker 1: to a friend. I'm talking to a friend. That that
- 7:51Speaker 1: allows me to be ru Sean McDonald that that I
- 7:54Speaker 1: don't feel that I I know I have flaws and
- 7:56Speaker 1: you know I know how you know, well, I think
- 7:59Speaker 1: that what what what what is interesting is that for
- 8:03Speaker 1: for there to be even a conversation of what I
- 8:06Speaker 1: do to be something that has some type of unique
- 8:12Speaker 1: uh sentiment to it is. I think it is very
- 8:16Speaker 1: unfortunate because I believe that it is the pursuit of
- 8:20Speaker 1: every person that says that says that they subscribe to
- 8:24Speaker 1: a faith, especially a faith in Jesus Christ, which is
- 8:28Speaker 1: about humility, It is about vulnerability. When you look at
- 8:33Speaker 1: the Bible, and the Bible that is a chorus of
- 8:36Speaker 1: misfits and and and and failed and like failing individuals consistently,
- 8:43Speaker 1: uh that were the backdrop of this beautiful uh story
- 8:47Speaker 1: of grace and mercy. So man, you know, I and
- 8:50Speaker 1: I think that it's very unfortunate that that that we're
- 8:53Speaker 1: not being engaged that much in people's lives where they
- 8:57Speaker 1: see a difference and not just wanted to, but in
- 9:00Speaker 1: everyone that opens to them after say that. And that's
- 9:02Speaker 1: why for me, I'm hoping that even with this podcast,
- 9:06Speaker 1: it is just another extension of how I can contry
- 9:09Speaker 1: to speak to incredible man like you and and other
- 9:12Speaker 1: individuals in ways that are entertaining, engaging and inspiring. Absolutely
- 9:19Speaker 1: good words. What does that mean? Good words? With Kurt Franklin,
- 9:21Speaker 1: that's the podcast. What does that mean, there's just so
- 9:25Speaker 1: many bad ones that are There's just so many words
- 9:27Speaker 1: of negativity, there's so many words of division, there's so
- 9:31Speaker 1: many words that are lies, that are that that is
- 9:35Speaker 1: misinformation that people build their truth upon, and so now
- 9:39Speaker 1: truth becomes arbitrary, you know, and and and so uh.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Good words is something that I'm hoping people will tune
- 9:48Speaker 1: into to be able to get exactly that A a
- 9:52Speaker 1: word of information, a word of engagement, a word of
- 9:57Speaker 1: of of inspiration, so that they can be able to
- 10:00Speaker 1: be entertained. I think that that when you hear just
- 10:05Speaker 1: just the tapestry of artists and individuals that were interviewing,
- 10:09Speaker 1: it's going to be very unique to see their their
- 10:12Speaker 1: intersection of culture and faith and how we can help
- 10:17Speaker 1: other people even invented well, you know the beauty of
- 10:19Speaker 1: this conversation. That's Dad. Okay. You know I've seen you
- 10:23Speaker 1: so many levels of greatness, of greatness, you know, from
- 10:26Speaker 1: on the stage hosting TV show. You know, I love
- 10:28Speaker 1: seeing you host TV. You are you one of the
- 10:30Speaker 1: most phenomenal host and I tell you that all the time.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I love seeing your TV hosting. And and then you
- 10:36Speaker 1: got your own channel, you know, music Chunel. So why
- 10:40Speaker 1: the podcast, Mr Franklin, You know you've got all these
- 10:43Speaker 1: other ways to communicate social media, You're a giant. Okay, music,
- 10:47Speaker 1: you're giant, got your own music channel. Why do we
- 10:50Speaker 1: need a podcast. It's just another extension of communication. It
- 10:55Speaker 1: is just continuing the conversation wherever people are that that
- 10:59Speaker 1: were of their ears. There should there should be the
- 11:02Speaker 1: story of the good news. That the good news should
- 11:05Speaker 1: be whatever people are, and so we don't wait for
- 11:08Speaker 1: people to come to us to get this good news.
- 11:09Speaker 1: We are ambassadors, we are we are soldiers. We we
- 11:14Speaker 1: are extensions of of His grace, his love and with
- 11:20Speaker 1: good words. I wanted to be a place where you
- 11:23Speaker 1: can see that you're not alone. I do think that
- 11:25Speaker 1: there is this dichotomy of what it looks like to
- 11:29Speaker 1: be a real person and try to hold onto real
- 11:33Speaker 1: faith that they don't always seem to be synonymous in
- 11:36Speaker 1: people's journey. And I hope that this podcast will allow
- 11:39Speaker 1: you to get interviews from other people that that that
- 11:43Speaker 1: live with that tension, that try to maneuver through what
- 11:47Speaker 1: what my faith and my humanity should be and who
- 11:50Speaker 1: should take the lead and what happens when it doesn't happen,
- 11:53Speaker 1: and and and how I'm gonna do it through that
- 11:55Speaker 1: in my career and being able to manage success, to
- 11:59Speaker 1: manage my own fears, my own anxiety. So I believe
- 12:02Speaker 1: the good words will be a A I pray a
- 12:06Speaker 1: very special uh place for people to come on that platform.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Here's just the interesting thing about Kurt frank I know
- 12:13Speaker 1: one side of Kurt. I know it backwards and forward.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Now there's what type of food this Kurt Franklin like
- 12:19Speaker 1: the Are you a barbecue man? Or you are pizza man,
- 12:22Speaker 1: a hamburger man? Or you just shot? I like to
- 12:25Speaker 1: stay in shape. What are you, key Don? What are
- 12:27Speaker 1: what are you? Brother? What are you? Is? I eat
- 12:30Speaker 1: really clean, try to eat really cle Krispy cre No
- 12:34Speaker 1: Krispy Kreme. No Krispy Kreme. I haven't at Krispy Kreme
- 12:40Speaker 1: and a few years. But but but but but now
- 12:43Speaker 1: as I do have cheat days, okay, I do have
- 12:45Speaker 1: cheap days, and in my cheap days, I do go
- 12:47Speaker 1: ham right. But but I think the problem that we
- 12:51Speaker 1: can all attest to that week? We can we can,
- 12:54Speaker 1: we can we can all be uh witnesses hallelujah. About
- 12:58Speaker 1: is that this pandemic. Bro, this pandemic has messed up
- 13:02Speaker 1: everybody's food playing and because man, you know you're trying
- 13:05Speaker 1: to eat right. But you know earlier, owning that pandemic,
- 13:08Speaker 1: when everything was shut down, it's like, well, what am
- 13:11Speaker 1: I eating good for? I ain't gonna be from no camera,
- 13:13Speaker 1: and so you just ate the whole grocery store and
- 13:20Speaker 1: now okay, that's that. That's there. Now, how about music
- 13:24Speaker 1: other than gospel music? What R and B music are
- 13:27Speaker 1: rap music? Do you listen to Kirk Franklin Old school
- 13:32Speaker 1: or new school? I listened to everything. I am a
- 13:35Speaker 1: student of the craft. I listened to everything from Jasmine
- 13:39Speaker 1: Sullivan's new album to UH. I listened to whatever Drake drops.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I listened to whatever uh, Fred Hammond's drops. I listened
- 13:52Speaker 1: to whatever Yo Yo my drops. I listened to whatever
- 13:55Speaker 1: Adele drops. I listened to uh, anything that's going to
- 14:01Speaker 1: be either old Miles or snarky Puppy. You know, I'm

- 16:03Speaker 1: That's O T T E R dot ai. You know
- 16:06Speaker 1: it's the funny point by my get my car. Here's
- 16:09Speaker 1: my first three songs, okay, because you know I'm old
- 16:11Speaker 1: school Kurt, you know the melodies from Heaven. I gotta
- 16:14Speaker 1: I gotta you know, I gotta have that. That that
- 16:17Speaker 1: if I get my car by five o'clock in the
- 16:19Speaker 1: morning coming to my office, So that gets me on fire. Okay.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Then I go to rock Star by the Baby. That's
- 16:26Speaker 1: that's my whole genre, you know, my and so and so.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Then I then I go to Kim, you know, uh
- 16:30Speaker 1: and so so, and then I that slowed down a
- 16:33Speaker 1: little bit more with Anthony Hamilton's that's my first fourth
- 16:36Speaker 1: songs in my podcast, in my in my excuse me,
- 16:38Speaker 1: and my in my player on my truck. When I
- 16:41Speaker 1: want to start rolling, what would be your first four songs,
- 16:44Speaker 1: Kurt not putting yours? My first fourth songs, first fourth
- 16:48Speaker 1: song mineus melodies from Heaven the Baby with rock Star.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Then I slide into Kim like Sharlene from Anthony Hamilton
- 16:57Speaker 1: and my first four songs. It's I can say that
- 17:00Speaker 1: I am that that consistent in in that process. You know,
- 17:06Speaker 1: it's some mornings I'll listen to, you know, a a
- 17:11Speaker 1: teaching podcast. The first thing in the morning, you know,
- 17:13Speaker 1: is I may listen to some old school you know,
- 17:16Speaker 1: Walter Hawkins, uh, you know, uh under a cracker, or
- 17:20Speaker 1: is I may listen to something to give me lit
- 17:23Speaker 1: my way to the gym. You know, I'm saying it
- 17:25Speaker 1: could be a Drake record, It could be a a
- 17:29Speaker 1: you know EVERYBN rock Kim record. It could be you know,
- 17:32Speaker 1: you know jay Z record. There you go, you know,
- 17:36Speaker 1: so so you know it is that I have a
- 17:39Speaker 1: I have a big appetite for music man, and one
- 17:43Speaker 1: doesn't win over the other. Well, you know, when when
- 17:46Speaker 1: we look at good Word for Kurt Franklin and then
- 17:47Speaker 1: the press really came out, they mentioned your interview with
- 17:50Speaker 1: for Real, you know, just to give a sense of
- 17:53Speaker 1: the type of talent or celebrity level that will be
- 17:56Speaker 1: part of the show. Why is it important to for
- 17:59Speaker 1: individuals like for Real to not only discuss their faith
- 18:02Speaker 1: but also tell the side of the story that's not
- 18:05Speaker 1: entertainment driven or selling albums and movies or things. Yeah, well,
- 18:11Speaker 1: I think that's even more important now because there were
- 18:15Speaker 1: we are at this crossroads that in in American culture,
- 18:21Speaker 1: American society, and even in our belief systems, that that
- 18:25Speaker 1: that that these that during this pandemic is going to
- 18:28Speaker 1: change the trajectory of how people process what is real
- 18:32Speaker 1: and what matters. And a lot of times the people
- 18:35Speaker 1: that have impacted culture more than others may be the
- 18:39Speaker 1: greater microphone of how to be able to navigate through
- 18:43Speaker 1: those things as well as being able to give another
- 18:46Speaker 1: side so that we can be able to start we
- 18:49Speaker 1: can be able to start fixing a lot of the
- 18:52Speaker 1: holes that have been in what people consider organized religion,
- 18:56Speaker 1: that we can pull down some of the barriers, so
- 18:58Speaker 1: that we can be able to even uh uh even
- 19:03Speaker 1: trying to articulate more misinformation that has been passed down
- 19:07Speaker 1: generationally to people of color, and and to be able
- 19:11Speaker 1: to also unpack the weaponization of Christianity, to be able
- 19:15Speaker 1: to uh to understand that Western Christianity and the teachings
- 19:19Speaker 1: of Jesus Christ are not synonymous necessarily and so uh
- 19:24Speaker 1: and and and then also how people maneuver through their
- 19:27Speaker 1: temptations of successful Gussie, there's trauma already being an African American,
- 19:32Speaker 1: but there's an extra layer of trauma when you become successful.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Success brings its own level of trauma. When you say
- 19:40Speaker 1: reoponization of Christianity, what exactly you referencing in that? And
- 19:45Speaker 1: not trying to be negative, I'm just just trying to
- 19:47Speaker 1: get a clear definition of what you mean say that.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Oh yeah, well, well well when you look at um,
- 19:52Speaker 1: when you look at the colonizes, everything was was was
- 19:56Speaker 1: from the from the bibliocentric land and of misinformation and
- 20:03Speaker 1: revisionist history where where where it was weaponized to uh
- 20:08Speaker 1: keep people marginalized, to keep people oppressed, to uh, to
- 20:12Speaker 1: even create a misogynistic tone to women's roles, even in Christianity.
- 20:18Speaker 1: And so when you weaponize something, it uh you become
- 20:23Speaker 1: a very authoritarian in your approach to what God is,
- 20:28Speaker 1: because God will be whatever it's beneficial to the one
- 20:31Speaker 1: that holds the weapon or or or the tool that
- 20:35Speaker 1: could be used for good or bad. It's almost like fire.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Fire is good for cooking, it's good for being able
- 20:40Speaker 1: to keep people warm and comfortable, but out of control,
- 20:43Speaker 1: it can burn down the city. And so that's what
- 20:46Speaker 1: Christianity throughout history, from from the Crusades onto the trans
- 20:51Speaker 1: Atlantis slave trade, there were times where uh where you
- 20:55Speaker 1: had you even had chaplains on the slave ship. Absolutely
- 21:00Speaker 1: had white chaplain's on on the slaveship. So so so
- 21:05Speaker 1: that does not mean that there's something uh intuitively wrong
- 21:11Speaker 1: with with the message of Jesus Christ. It's been something
- 21:15Speaker 1: uh intrinsically wrong with a lot of those that have
- 21:19Speaker 1: been the microphones to be able to proclaim that faith.
- 21:24Speaker 1: You know, when I when I when I talk about faith,
- 21:26Speaker 1: the fifth song that I have all that I listened
- 21:28Speaker 1: to him. We lost him in a friend of our
- 21:33Speaker 1: your mine. Uh. Something about the name Jesus and you know. Um,
- 21:39Speaker 1: and I remember our interviewed. I think the second time
- 21:41Speaker 1: he was on my show. I didn't realize you wrote
- 21:43Speaker 1: that song. He said, yeah, I wrote that, and and
- 21:47Speaker 1: that that. You know, whenever I went that song is
- 21:50Speaker 1: so important to me. Whenever you know somebody's down, Kirk,
- 21:54Speaker 1: I sent it to him. Somebody has a depth in
- 21:58Speaker 1: the family, I sent it to him. They don't know
- 22:01Speaker 1: how to find direction in their life. I sent it
- 22:04Speaker 1: to him. Um, give us the thought process in writing
- 22:08Speaker 1: a song like that and didn't get it produced and
- 22:11Speaker 1: having an amazing artist like him, you know, And it's been,
- 22:15Speaker 1: it's been. It's been remade by a couple of young
- 22:17Speaker 1: ladies and I've heard that version. I like their version too.
- 22:19Speaker 1: It was fantastic. And so talk about that process behind
- 22:22Speaker 1: that song. Well, you know, it's not much of a
- 22:28Speaker 1: a headline story, uh. The the the inception of that song.
- 22:38Speaker 1: It was just a song that dropped in my head
- 22:40Speaker 1: that I that I thought would be a nice moment
- 22:43Speaker 1: and reached out to Ranch, Allen Um and men a
- 22:48Speaker 1: Standard because I wanted to take the old school and
- 22:50Speaker 1: new school and proad together. And it was just so.
- 22:54Speaker 1: It's a song God gave me, and and the genius
- 22:57Speaker 1: of Ranch Allen watching him coming to the studio and
- 23:00Speaker 1: to be so so much of a surgeon, like he's
- 23:04Speaker 1: a surgeon behind the like and and and to be
- 23:08Speaker 1: able to see him be uh so fluid in his
- 23:13Speaker 1: gift was a beautiful thing to the whole. And so
- 23:17Speaker 1: it was a moment that I'll never forget. And it
- 23:19Speaker 1: was and it was it was a It was a
- 23:22Speaker 1: song that would have never known at the time that
- 23:24Speaker 1: would have impacted people and touch people the way it did,
- 23:27Speaker 1: would have never would have never seen that coming. Well,
- 23:30Speaker 1: you know, I saw the story that rants came into
- 23:33Speaker 1: my life of BT Celebration of Gospels. You know Steve
- 23:36Speaker 1: Harvan that was there every year with you guys, and
- 23:38Speaker 1: it was he performed it on stage with you, and
- 23:41Speaker 1: that was the first time I heard it. It's something
- 23:43Speaker 1: magical because we hear music a lot, but when you
- 23:46Speaker 1: hear a song from the very first word and the
- 23:49Speaker 1: stage with you, and it builds with you, and it
- 23:52Speaker 1: takes you through these emotional up and downs. And at
- 23:55Speaker 1: the end of that song, when I heard it live
- 23:58Speaker 1: in Los Angeles doing that tape, I was in tears.
- 24:01Speaker 1: And and it wasn't a negative tearing. It was a
- 24:04Speaker 1: positivity of of of an awakening inside of yourself. Because
- 24:10Speaker 1: I'll just tell you something, Kurt. When I talk to you, man,
- 24:11Speaker 1: it's always you know, you're such a gifted young man.
- 24:15Speaker 1: And I say young because I'm older than you, and
- 24:17Speaker 1: and I say that because sometimes you're so humble that
- 24:20Speaker 1: the impact you make on people of all ages needs
- 24:24Speaker 1: to be in some ways glorified, because you change people.
- 24:27Speaker 1: You change the way I get up, You change with
- 24:29Speaker 1: my family, impacts my wife, she goes to church. I
- 24:32Speaker 1: don't you know, my daughter gonna go to church. And so.
- 24:35Speaker 1: But that doesn't mean I I failed to believe in
- 24:38Speaker 1: God lesser. But I know that the story I'm trying
- 24:41Speaker 1: to get you allow me to tell it my way.
- 24:44Speaker 1: And that's what you're doing with uh. I believe when
- 24:47Speaker 1: you're dropping this podcast good Words with Kurt Franklin, you're
- 24:50Speaker 1: it's just another expression of communication. Like you're saying, reaching
- 24:54Speaker 1: people and telling them your story and then sharing other stories,
- 24:57Speaker 1: kind of like when I'm doing with money making conversations.
- 24:59Speaker 1: I'm allowing the story, but in this lane, And that's
- 25:03Speaker 1: really important, isn't it exactly? And thank you again and
- 25:07Speaker 1: I'm just extremely appreciative to be able to be part
- 25:11Speaker 1: of just a a fragment of the journey that people's
- 25:16Speaker 1: UH lives continue to take them on, and that the
- 25:21Speaker 1: music has allowed them to be able to see a
- 25:24Speaker 1: greater God in the midst of some of the deepest
- 25:27Speaker 1: and darkest days that they may go through. And and
- 25:30Speaker 1: even with the podcast, it is there needs to be
- 25:33Speaker 1: so many different conversations that could happen at the same
- 25:37Speaker 1: time that that every platform does not give you the
- 25:41Speaker 1: freedom to have that conversation where there may be more
- 25:44Speaker 1: intellectual conversations that can happen through the podcast, that may
- 25:48Speaker 1: be a lot more foolishness that I can have fun
- 25:51Speaker 1: with and enjoyed the podcasts, And so uh, it just
- 25:55Speaker 1: gives you a liberty that you don't have on stage.
- 25:57Speaker 1: It gives you a liberty then you don't have in
- 26:00Speaker 1: a recording studio. You are being able to now engage
- 26:05Speaker 1: a different side of a person's life that they did
- 26:07Speaker 1: not really see their faith then, because you know, some
- 26:10Speaker 1: people's faith a lot of times it's still like a
- 26:13Speaker 1: spare time. It's something that they pull they something they
- 26:17Speaker 1: pull out when they need it, and it's not the
- 26:21Speaker 1: fabric of their daily existence. So they get frustrated when
- 26:26Speaker 1: they see it not work and something like well where
- 26:28Speaker 1: is God? God don't work? I don't see in it's life. Well,
- 26:31Speaker 1: it's very difficult to be able to tap into what
- 26:35Speaker 1: God is and what He will do if it's only
- 26:40Speaker 1: a non one one situation that he continues to be
- 26:44Speaker 1: postured in when it comes to your life. And so
- 26:46Speaker 1: hopefully it does. Even good words will that you hear
- 26:49Speaker 1: from other people that you don't see in church all
- 26:52Speaker 1: the time, you don't see in church platforms give you
- 26:55Speaker 1: a lens of where they are, the good, the bad,
- 26:58Speaker 1: the ugly in their life and where God has stood
- 27:01Speaker 1: in Wow. So we last year because of the pandemic,
- 27:05Speaker 1: you couldn't do your all do a festival. How are
- 27:07Speaker 1: this year? I know there's Texas that's where you're based
- 27:11Speaker 1: with the festival. How is it looking at something you
- 27:14Speaker 1: produce that you book it's all out of your production company,
- 27:17Speaker 1: which I love to talk about. We talked about that
- 27:19Speaker 1: last time. Becoming a true entrepreneur? Uh, controlling your destiny?
- 27:24Speaker 1: How does it look for oh man? You know we
- 27:28Speaker 1: we we will see where God leaves. I'm I had
- 27:32Speaker 1: learned in my time on this earth, you know, wil
- 27:37Speaker 1: while I'm visiting, is that you can make the plans,
- 27:42Speaker 1: but God at times last, you know, And so you
- 27:45Speaker 1: have to make sure that you are surrendering your dreams
- 27:49Speaker 1: and making sure that each Because here's the thing that
- 27:52Speaker 1: I really believe about my faith. And again, I'm not
- 27:56Speaker 1: only sure to try to proselytize. Yeah, I'm here be
- 28:00Speaker 1: because I am a product of grace, of God's grace
- 28:02Speaker 1: and mercy. That's the only reason why I get to
- 28:04Speaker 1: be part of great platforms like this, you know. And
- 28:07Speaker 1: because I'm cute, even though I am cute, that is
- 28:10Speaker 1: not what God? Uh what that that that that that
- 28:15Speaker 1: we have to understand man, that what we believe should
- 28:19Speaker 1: be transferable, That it shouldn't be something that just stays
- 28:23Speaker 1: with us and dies with us. That it should be
- 28:26Speaker 1: something that can be part of the fragment of people's
- 28:30Speaker 1: daily existence. And we haven't done that well as as
- 28:34Speaker 1: people of faith. We've only made Sunday morning and a
- 28:37Speaker 1: Sunday suit the epitome of what believing is. And so
- 28:42Speaker 1: I'm hoping that with everything that I'm able to do,
- 28:45Speaker 1: whatever God calls me for this year is that I
- 28:49Speaker 1: want to make sure that my dreams and our distractions,
- 28:52Speaker 1: and so that the only way to know how to
- 28:54Speaker 1: do that is to take my dreams and filter them
- 28:57Speaker 1: through my faith. We know the interesting I'm a little
- 29:00Speaker 1: shift here. Melanie Holt was on my show recently and
- 29:03Speaker 1: uh she hosts a show called Behind every Man and
- 29:07Speaker 1: you on the show and it was and you know,
- 29:09Speaker 1: I get I get access to everything now. You know,
- 29:11Speaker 1: I'm moving up in the food chain, not Kirk. You
- 29:13Speaker 1: know they get early for everybody everything. Now you're on
- 29:18Speaker 1: there with your your beautiful wife. Just like I mentioned
- 29:20Speaker 1: my wife and how important she is to me, how
- 29:22Speaker 1: I was important to do a show like that because
- 29:25Speaker 1: Behind every Man tells us her story and the impact
- 29:28Speaker 1: that she has on your life and that you have
- 29:30Speaker 1: on your life and the faith as well. I was
- 29:32Speaker 1: important to do that show with your wife. Well, it
- 29:35Speaker 1: was just important for me for people to get a chance,
- 29:38Speaker 1: like I'm always looking for moments to showcase and celebrate
- 29:42Speaker 1: this incredible woman who has always lifted me up, and everybody,
- 29:47Speaker 1: uh not at all times got a chance to see Tanny,
- 29:51Speaker 1: and I want to be able to celebrate her when
- 29:53Speaker 1: when there's a platform that comes My way is because
- 29:56Speaker 1: I want people to understand that I am what I
- 29:59Speaker 1: am because of her. It is God using her as
- 30:04Speaker 1: the conduit that that that that all his blessings slow.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Because if I was a single man, I probably would
- 30:10Speaker 1: not be the most integral or the most responsible because
- 30:15Speaker 1: I would probably still be doing with single man at
- 30:17Speaker 1: times do and so a lot of times when you
- 30:21Speaker 1: live that life, you are blocking the conversation and the
- 30:27Speaker 1: covering that God wants to give us because He's not
- 30:30Speaker 1: going to give you the keys to something that you're
- 30:32Speaker 1: going to drive into a wall. Wow. Good works for
- 30:37Speaker 1: the good words with with Kurt Franklin. That's right, just
- 30:40Speaker 1: on podcast platforms including Apple, Spotify, and Stitcher. Uh, Kurt,
- 30:45Speaker 1: thank you for coming on the show. Man. You know,
- 30:46Speaker 1: I always appreciate you man taking the time to talk
- 30:49Speaker 1: to Rashan McDonald man because uh, I know you're busy. Man.
- 30:52Speaker 1: I'm just trying to just trying to thank you. Thank you,
- 30:57Speaker 1: But you more that man, You inspire me and that
- 31:00Speaker 1: and that's why whatever you come on this I gotta
- 31:02Speaker 1: remind you. Man. You know, I know, I know people
- 31:04Speaker 1: look at me as being very successful, but behind that
- 31:07Speaker 1: success and like I said, in a certain situation. There
- 31:10Speaker 1: is a good woman, but they're also good friends. And
- 31:13Speaker 1: uh and your friend, and I know that uh your music.
- 31:17Speaker 1: May you may not be talking to me as an individual,
- 31:20Speaker 1: but brother, you've saved me a many a day. Man.
- 31:23Speaker 1: You've saved me when I'm on the road and I
- 31:25Speaker 1: didn't know where to go. You've saved me when I've
- 31:27Speaker 1: been down and thought I was the only person in
- 31:29Speaker 1: this world. You've saved me when I've been successful. You've
- 31:32Speaker 1: saved me. And a lot of people says, successful, how
- 31:34Speaker 1: can you save you? Because sometimes you need direction when
- 31:37Speaker 1: you're successful, because you don't have nowhere to turn. And
- 31:39Speaker 1: so that's the layers of life that you've given me.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Since you've been into my life, been in my life,
- 31:44Speaker 1: and I've been there. We've done TV shows together, we've
- 31:46Speaker 1: done concerts together, we've done radio shows together. So I
- 31:49Speaker 1: know the relationship we have is beyond just music. And
- 31:53Speaker 1: thank you again for coming on money Making conversation Man,
