- 1:33Speaker 1: with real issues. Premiered Monday, September ten on CBS. She's
- 1:37Speaker 1: a partner in the law firm or Martin and Martin
- 1:39Speaker 1: with her husband in Los Angeles, a legal analyst on
- 1:42Speaker 1: CNN That's where I discover her and the author of
- 1:45Speaker 1: the popular motivational book Make It Rain, Please, Working to
- 1:48Speaker 1: money making Conversations Arriva Martin. Hello, I love it. I
- 1:54Speaker 1: love it. I love great introductions. I love giving them
- 1:56Speaker 1: and I love receiving them. Well, first of all, you
- 1:58Speaker 1: deserve it, you know, because of the fact that Harvard
- 2:01Speaker 1: Law School attendee a graduate and all that good stuff.
- 2:04Speaker 1: You know, tell me about. Okay, where did it all
- 2:06Speaker 1: start for you? Okay, because that's what I'm saying. Boring
- 2:11Speaker 1: in St. Louis. That's Midwest, girl, That's Midwest, Midwest. Okay,
- 2:14Speaker 1: the Arch, the Arch. You know, one of my favorite
- 2:18Speaker 1: hotels is in uh Is in St. Louis, the Four Seasons.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I love the hotel. You can look out and see
- 2:23Speaker 1: the Archers, one of my favorite hotels in St. Louis.
- 2:25Speaker 1: And but now you know I was I would like
- 2:29Speaker 1: to go back to people when they get started with
- 2:31Speaker 1: these thoughts because I'm African American. I grew up in
- 2:33Speaker 1: inner city and all I had was dreams. What inspired
- 2:37Speaker 1: you to be to to St. Louis is cool? But
- 2:40Speaker 1: I want to do better. Two women my grandmother and
- 2:45Speaker 1: my godmother. Grandmother was a paraplegic. Godmother was a maid
- 2:49Speaker 1: and a janitor. Uh two women was very limited education,
- 2:53Speaker 1: very very limited money, but heart. You know, they had
- 2:58Speaker 1: a lot of heart. They had a lot of love.
- 3:00Speaker 1: They raised me and my brothers and they taught me
- 3:03Speaker 1: some values that you know serve you well. Whether you're
- 3:06Speaker 1: in New York, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Paris, it doesn't matter. Uh.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Some of those values that UH instilled in me in
- 3:14Speaker 1: a young age have stuck with me and have been
- 3:16Speaker 1: really the motivating force but behind everything that I've accomplished
- 3:20Speaker 1: in my life professionally. And then you share this in
- 3:23Speaker 1: public speaking. Correct. I talked about it all the time
- 3:27Speaker 1: because I like you, Rashaana. I think it's important that
- 3:29Speaker 1: people know where you come from. Sfer times and entertainers
- 3:32Speaker 1: and athletes and successful people. We just see the shiny,
- 3:35Speaker 1: glossy them, you know, we see the Instagram pictures where
- 3:38Speaker 1: everything is perfect hair makeup, that you know that they
- 3:40Speaker 1: got the whip, they got everything going for them, But
- 3:43Speaker 1: we don't get to see the hard work, you know,
- 3:45Speaker 1: the obstacles, the challenges, UH that got them where they are.
- 3:48Speaker 1: So I always like to remind people, you know, don't
- 3:50Speaker 1: look at me where I am now, learned a little
- 3:52Speaker 1: about where I started from, because that's what I think
- 3:55Speaker 1: will motivate someone who feels like they can't get from
- 3:58Speaker 1: point A to point B because it seems so far off,
- 4:01Speaker 1: it seems so overwhelming. But when you know that people
- 4:04Speaker 1: you admired and look up to started off most of us,
- 4:07Speaker 1: many of us, you know, no field re spoons. No,
- 4:10Speaker 1: you know, legacy admission to Harvard, you know, no uh,
- 4:14Speaker 1: recommendation letters from my uncle that had been there, you know,
- 4:17Speaker 1: two generations before me. So I think people need to
- 4:20Speaker 1: know that. So I'm proud of you know, and I'll
- 4:22Speaker 1: tell you this story. I did a book signing the
- 4:23Speaker 1: same words to making Ring, and I grew up in
- 4:25Speaker 1: a housing project called the car Square Village. It was
- 4:27Speaker 1: a woman that came up to me after that book signed.
- 4:30Speaker 1: She said, a Revie had been so embarrassed to ever
- 4:32Speaker 1: tell anyone I grew up in the car Square. But
- 4:34Speaker 1: tonight when I heard you on that stage in front
- 4:37Speaker 1: of this predominantly white audience at a college in the
- 4:40Speaker 1: suburbs of saying, well, she says, when I heard you
- 4:42Speaker 1: talk so proudly about growing up there, she says, I'll
- 4:45Speaker 1: never ever denied where I came from, and I will
- 4:48Speaker 1: talk openly about that. This woman is a successful nurse,
- 4:51Speaker 1: She was in a medical professional and she says she
- 4:53Speaker 1: and her sister basically denied where they grew up, but
- 4:57Speaker 1: hearing me talk about it so proudly gave her, in
- 5:00Speaker 1: some ways permission to, you know, share her background. So
- 5:04Speaker 1: that's That's what I hope I do by sharing my
- 5:06Speaker 1: story is give other people permission to talk about whatever
- 5:09Speaker 1: it is that they have to overcome to get where
- 5:11Speaker 1: they are today. We know the interesting thing about sharing,
- 5:13Speaker 1: you know, because I was managing Steve all those years
- 5:17Speaker 1: of just hearing him just lay his story out to
- 5:19Speaker 1: the general public. And that was difficult. You know, not
- 5:22Speaker 1: everybody knows social me. You can't hide anything, so you
- 5:24Speaker 1: might will share because you know how much money you
- 5:28Speaker 1: make and they're gonna google your house, you know, get
- 5:31Speaker 1: down to go in your backyard right right right then
- 5:35Speaker 1: security Now, if you're careful, let know that too. So
- 5:38Speaker 1: so you know, because we all are. This is what
- 5:41Speaker 1: I take away from your personality. Okay, very well, very
- 5:44Speaker 1: very well educated, very well spoken, but there's an edge
- 5:47Speaker 1: in your personality where you really do understand where you
- 5:50Speaker 1: came from, and you're not you're not afraid to admit that.
- 5:54Speaker 1: That's how I am. I'm from fifth Ward, Texas, you know,
- 5:56Speaker 1: to bear Room, shotgun house six US, just two brothers.
- 5:59Speaker 1: My father there was a truck driver, has a third
- 6:01Speaker 1: grade education. My mom graduated from high school. That was
- 6:04Speaker 1: that was That was my resume and I will tell
- 6:07Speaker 1: people that and not just to let everybody know that
- 6:10Speaker 1: I'm not special. That's first of all. I want to
- 6:12Speaker 1: just lay that out there. I'm not special because I've
- 6:15Speaker 1: been in environments where people look at me like I'm unique,
- 6:18Speaker 1: and they look at me like, oh, you're different from them,
- 6:21Speaker 1: and that's what those the stereotypes. But I understand that you, truly,
- 6:25Speaker 1: I'm a clean understanding that there's a success lane and
- 6:28Speaker 1: there's an everyday lane and you and you balance both
- 6:31Speaker 1: of them, because absolutely, you're right, we're not. I definitely
- 6:34Speaker 1: don't feel special. What I tell people is I just
- 6:37Speaker 1: go to work. The joke in my house is Mom
- 6:40Speaker 1: and my husband say, I think the answer to every
- 6:43Speaker 1: problem is another job, right right, right right. That's the
- 6:48Speaker 1: craziest in the family. And my first question is do
- 6:51Speaker 1: they have a job? Do they have a second job?
- 6:53Speaker 1: And so that's kind of a running joke, Like, Mom,
- 6:55Speaker 1: the answer to everything is not a job, I says, well,
- 6:57Speaker 1: it'll solve a lot of problems, trust me, and just
- 7:00Speaker 1: multiple straies of income. And it also allows you to
- 7:03Speaker 1: understand that you're not you're not uh, you're not linked
- 7:06Speaker 1: to somebody else's success or failure. If you're deciding all
- 7:09Speaker 1: your overall income by by several platforms, and that's what
- 7:13Speaker 1: you're doing right now. Because I wanted, because I want
- 7:15Speaker 1: to slide over to we're gonna talk about because I
- 7:17Speaker 1: got two breaks with you. We're gonna talk about the
- 7:19Speaker 1: TV show. But you have so much and I guess,
- 7:21Speaker 1: like you're on the show, your journey in entrepreneurship, your
- 7:24Speaker 1: journey and education, your background enables me to say I
- 7:27Speaker 1: want them to hear a full scope. Make It Rain,
- 7:30Speaker 1: the very popular book that came out in March that
- 7:33Speaker 1: you wrote, and it tells people how to take advantage
- 7:35Speaker 1: of the media to build your brand. That's what money
- 7:38Speaker 1: making conversations about. I got to had to get you
- 7:40Speaker 1: on this show to talk and talk about that book.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Talk about that book. Well, I'm excited about Making Rain.
- 7:44Speaker 1: You're right. It was published by the Shed Book Group
- 7:47Speaker 1: in March. It's a national best seller. It hit the
- 7:50Speaker 1: top of a ton of best sellers list when it
- 7:52Speaker 1: came out. It's been doing really, really well. I traveled
- 7:55Speaker 1: the countries from March till about literally just September, doing
- 7:59Speaker 1: bok convinced with the hundreds sometimes styles of people. I
- 8:03Speaker 1: did Urban League, I was at a conference of public administrators.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I've been at a ton of women empowerment conferences, including
- 8:10Speaker 1: a wonderful conference in Malwa, had been to Chicago, St. Louis.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I'm talking about how amazing it is this this is
- 8:21Speaker 1: my third book and my second book. I sat in
- 8:25Speaker 1: bookstores Rashan with like two people, people praying like, you know,
- 8:30Speaker 1: trying to play it off like I really wasn't ever
- 8:32Speaker 1: during a book sign when nobody showed up. And I'm
- 8:35Speaker 1: just I'm so blessed. And I tell this story because
- 8:37Speaker 1: I tell people, you know, I was told on my
- 8:40Speaker 1: second book that I would never get a third book
- 8:41Speaker 1: deal because my second book, although a wonderful book, it
- 8:44Speaker 1: wasn't position right, it wasn't marketed properly, and it didn't
- 8:48Speaker 1: sound well. And so this book, I had a totally
- 8:51Speaker 1: different approach to how I was going to get out
- 8:53Speaker 1: and reach people. And one of my ways was, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 1: going to where people are not sitting in the bookstore
- 8:58Speaker 1: hoping somebody will show up up. But I actually went
- 9:01Speaker 1: to conferences wherever were already gonna be hundreds and hundreds
- 9:04Speaker 1: of people, so if I could make sure I connected
- 9:06Speaker 1: with folks. But but this book has been a labor
- 9:07Speaker 1: of love for me, talking about how I used the
- 9:10Speaker 1: media to grow my own practice, my own legal practice,
- 9:13Speaker 1: how I've used the media to go from being an
- 9:16Speaker 1: unpaid death expert to uh someone who now has multiple
- 9:19Speaker 1: contracts with networks in the media, and just how you
- 9:23Speaker 1: can you know, find your brand and amplify you and
- 9:27Speaker 1: don't get the talk show now you know, and you
- 9:30Speaker 1: know when you have so much to talk about, you
- 9:32Speaker 1: need a hype man like ra Sean McDonald to remind you.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I'm a hype man. This is the showy main conversation
- 9:38Speaker 1: is your hype man show? Now? The title of the book?
- 9:41Speaker 1: Now that that I love that title? Okay, Well, there
- 9:44Speaker 1: in discussions were discussions about that title, because it really
- 9:48Speaker 1: is about the title of the book. Was like a
- 9:50Speaker 1: lady to think like a man. We sold three million copies.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Much debate on that title when we when we were
- 9:55Speaker 1: putting it together. So I know a title can do
- 9:58Speaker 1: a lot for a book and also connects explain the
- 10:01Speaker 1: direction of a book, and I thought they just fit
- 10:03Speaker 1: with this book so well. So tell us how you
- 10:05Speaker 1: came up with that title and associated with this book. Well,
- 10:08Speaker 1: I'll tell you that I got a lot of pushback.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Sometimes publishers get a little you know, get a little answer,
- 10:14Speaker 1: little hansitant because making rain. If you google it, you
- 10:17Speaker 1: may get some strip club might people throw our money
- 10:21Speaker 1: up in the air. But I was okay with that.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I was like, great, that just means the title is
- 10:24Speaker 1: already out of the university because I wasn't afraid of
- 10:28Speaker 1: it because I knew when you looked at my picture,
- 10:30Speaker 1: you're gonna see I wasn't stripper. That's okay, But that's
- 10:36Speaker 1: what I'm talking about. That's what I'm talking about, that
- 10:38Speaker 1: that independent nature of yours. You know, you can keep
- 10:40Speaker 1: it regular and you keep it successful, but you're so
- 10:43Speaker 1: confident in yourself. You're very confident in yourself. No, and
- 10:47Speaker 1: that means that you'll I'm gonna slide a little bit.
- 10:49Speaker 1: We're gonna come back. But that means that your husband
- 10:51Speaker 1: has to be stronger. But it hasn't have a strong
- 10:52Speaker 1: personality too. Oh absolutely absolutely does Martin and Martin Law Firm.
- 10:59Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. Got to be Martin and Martin,
- 11:01Speaker 1: you know, together to understanding that you can go out
- 11:04Speaker 1: and do your thing and you can be successful and
- 11:07Speaker 1: you're still understand the values of partnership both are in marriage,
- 11:11Speaker 1: but from motherhood, both in parenting and both in responsibility.
- 11:15Speaker 1: That's an important role in leading that balanced life that
- 11:17Speaker 1: I've Really when I was doing my additional work on
- 11:20Speaker 1: your your name on your brand pops out. Yeah. No,
- 11:25Speaker 1: I have three kids, are proud to say, and one
- 11:27Speaker 1: of my children, my youngest son, already actually has special
- 11:30Speaker 1: needia as autism. So my second book was really about
- 11:33Speaker 1: my journey as a mom. I'm a child with autism.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So I took that, which was very very very painful
- 11:40Speaker 1: and hurtful for our family when we got a diagnosis.
- 11:43Speaker 1: But you know, I took that and turn it into
- 11:45Speaker 1: something where I now run a nonprofit specialties network. So
- 11:50Speaker 1: as devastated as I was by my son's diagnosis, I
- 11:53Speaker 1: I God didn't want me to stay in that place
- 11:55Speaker 1: of that kind of self pity and depression, and he
- 11:59Speaker 1: helped moved me from that place of anguish to a
- 12:01Speaker 1: place of advocacy where you know, now I helped other parents.
- 12:05Speaker 1: And so what PEO, we're gonna do. We're gonna come
- 12:09Speaker 1: right back the next Our next break will be strictly
- 12:11Speaker 1: about the talk show because I wanted to understand who
- 12:14Speaker 1: she was. We'll be back with more money making conversations.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I my guests on the phone, is the co host
- 12:18Speaker 1: on the new daytime syndicated talk show Face the Truth,
- 12:21Speaker 1: which is from Dr Fields Production Company. It's a conflict
- 12:24Speaker 1: resolution show with a panel up experts to help people
- 12:26Speaker 1: sort out their personal problems. There are the problems in life.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Face the Truth is unscripted and promptu helping real people,
- 12:33Speaker 1: real issues. Premiered Monday, September ten on CBS. Now I
- 12:37Speaker 1: have on the phone, Please welcome back to the show.
- 12:39Speaker 1: A Reva Martin, A Reva Okay, you got you've done
- 12:43Speaker 1: three books mother three uh law firm Martin and Martin.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I I discovered you personally. I'm gonna claim you seeing
- 12:52Speaker 1: that that's what I'm ann claim. I claim her. You
- 12:54Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, claim her in. You know when
- 12:57Speaker 1: she was just a Reva Martin, not your Reva. You
- 12:59Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. You know? So, she expanded, We're
- 13:02Speaker 1: gonna be a after while when you get big. If
- 13:04Speaker 1: everybody hey hey, no, no, no, hey, hey what's hey?
- 13:14Speaker 1: So tell us about this show and your co host
- 13:17Speaker 1: and all that stuff, and how did they get started,
- 13:19Speaker 1: How they get started? And why did you do it?
- 13:21Speaker 1: Why did you do it? Well? I started my entree
- 13:24Speaker 1: into TV. I'm a trial boy for many years, but
- 13:27Speaker 1: I started a TV one daytime with Dr Till. I
- 13:29Speaker 1: started as a commentator, legal commentator and expert of children's
- 13:33Speaker 1: rights at expert on Dr Phil. And then I left
- 13:37Speaker 1: for several years and got heavily into cable TV, into
- 13:40Speaker 1: the more hard hitting news that happens on cable at night,
- 13:43Speaker 1: and started doing you know, everything from police shootings to
- 13:46Speaker 1: politics to raise uh. And I love that stuff, you know.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I I love being a part of these big national
- 13:52Speaker 1: conversations that are happily on the Me to Move and
- 13:54Speaker 1: now the you know, the nomination of Brett CoV and
- 13:56Speaker 1: I I love having to bring my boy back to
- 13:59Speaker 1: that an African American woman as a woman from an
- 14:02Speaker 1: underserved community, uh, you know, as a woman that that
- 14:05Speaker 1: has just lived through some stuff. I think that's a
- 14:07Speaker 1: perspective that needs to be a part of those big conversations.
- 14:11Speaker 1: But I fell in love the TV in daytime watching
- 14:14Speaker 1: Dr Phil help real people with real problems transform their lives.
- 14:18Speaker 1: So when I have an opportunity to be a co
- 14:20Speaker 1: host on face the truth. I jumped at it because
- 14:23Speaker 1: that's where my heart is helping everyday people. And we
- 14:26Speaker 1: get people in conflict, husbands and wives, mother and daughters,
- 14:29Speaker 1: best friends. Uh, you know, people who are trying to
- 14:33Speaker 1: put the pieces back, maybe after a substance abuse issue,
- 14:36Speaker 1: maybe after the death of a child or death of
- 14:38Speaker 1: a loved one, maybe after some kind of financial scam
- 14:41Speaker 1: has happened to them, and they're just looking for answers.
- 14:43Speaker 1: And what I love about the show is you get
- 14:45Speaker 1: five strong voices that give their perspective, but were everybody
- 14:49Speaker 1: goes home. Uh, it's not ellen where we're giving the audience,
- 14:53Speaker 1: you know, cars and big gets like you know the
- 14:55Speaker 1: Oprah Show used to do. But we give the people
- 14:58Speaker 1: in prices. We give them help. So it could be
- 15:01Speaker 1: thirty day you know, rehab program that would be otherwise
- 15:04Speaker 1: unaffordable to someone who's going through substance abuse, six months
- 15:08Speaker 1: of family therapy and counseling. Uh, you know, job coaching,
- 15:12Speaker 1: financial planning, coaching. He's given spot trips, we've given vacations,
- 15:17Speaker 1: so just resources. You know, we don't just send people
- 15:19Speaker 1: away like you know, go do what we tell you
- 15:22Speaker 1: to do, but we say here, do what we tell
- 15:23Speaker 1: you to do, and and here's some professional help to
- 15:26Speaker 1: help you do what we tell you to do. So
- 15:28Speaker 1: I like that. It keeps me ground, It keeps me
- 15:31Speaker 1: again working with you know, real people. Uh. And fortunately
- 15:35Speaker 1: I get to do that and still be a part
- 15:36Speaker 1: of CNN and you know, be a part of these
- 15:39Speaker 1: big you know, uh, conversations that are happening, uh that
- 15:42Speaker 1: you know, I'm really shaping our nation. So I'd like
- 15:45Speaker 1: to say I have the best of both rules in
- 15:47Speaker 1: that I get to help real people, but I also
- 15:49Speaker 1: get to help shape the conversation and narrative around things
- 15:52Speaker 1: that impact real people. Well that's that's important because you know,
- 15:56Speaker 1: Steve or whatever launched this talk show in Chicago, Steve Harvard,
- 16:00Speaker 1: and you know, one of the things that we wanted
- 16:01Speaker 1: to do was I love the fact that you you
- 16:04Speaker 1: bring resolution because you you bring people on and you
- 16:06Speaker 1: can't solve their problems and forty two minutes and you
- 16:09Speaker 1: can't solve it in a one eight minute segment. And
- 16:12Speaker 1: so I love that. That's what I like about the show.
- 16:14Speaker 1: At least there is let me just say this, at
- 16:16Speaker 1: least there is an attempt to be able to fix
- 16:19Speaker 1: a problem when you to bring them on the show,
- 16:21Speaker 1: and it's not being exploited because we know television it's
- 16:23Speaker 1: entertainment at least at least their mechanism in place on
- 16:26Speaker 1: this show that say you come over here, we got
- 16:29Speaker 1: we got, we've got people over here, and we were
- 16:31Speaker 1: making a sincere effort that when you walk, we're not here.
- 16:33Speaker 1: This is not about you know, because a lot of
- 16:35Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of shows will make that
- 16:37Speaker 1: you know, nless they say a shotgun you know, uh
- 16:41Speaker 1: guess you know, they come over there, they come over
- 16:43Speaker 1: one thing, they's doomed. There's just to explore them. That's
- 16:45Speaker 1: that's what the show did. Did you have an impact
- 16:47Speaker 1: input on how to show that the format of the
- 16:49Speaker 1: show not so much an impact on the format, but
- 16:53Speaker 1: we definitely get to weigh in as the host in
- 16:55Speaker 1: terms of the help that we give to guests. So
- 16:57Speaker 1: we see a story and we think that guests need
- 17:00Speaker 1: particularly you know, kind of help, we can weigh in
- 17:03Speaker 1: and make sure they get that help. And you're right,
- 17:05Speaker 1: a lot of shows bring people on to exploit their stories,
- 17:09Speaker 1: but we clear a lot of people come on TV
- 17:11Speaker 1: because they just want that opportunity to you know, and
- 17:16Speaker 1: now with social media to take the pictures and say
- 17:18Speaker 1: they were on TV. You know. But like I said,
- 17:20Speaker 1: for us this show, we have a whole aftercare department.
- 17:23Speaker 1: So when you leave that stage, you meet immediately with
- 17:26Speaker 1: an aftercare professional who's a you know, a licensed professional,
- 17:30Speaker 1: and they are hooking you up with the services. Uh.
- 17:33Speaker 1: So you do get if you want to get out
- 17:35Speaker 1: of your situation, whether it's a weight loss, Like we
- 17:37Speaker 1: just have a guy on head of you know, horrible,
- 17:40Speaker 1: you know, more of really obese. You know, we hooked
- 17:42Speaker 1: him up with a gym membership. We hooked him up
- 17:44Speaker 1: with some counseling to help him, you know, dig a
- 17:45Speaker 1: little deeper about what was you know, causing a weight
- 17:48Speaker 1: We've even got him, uh like a thousand dollars worth
- 17:51Speaker 1: of healthy meals delivered to his home. So I mean
- 17:54Speaker 1: you walk away with the beginning of what you will
- 17:57Speaker 1: need to change your life. Talking about the co host
- 18:01Speaker 1: Soldier show, how did that? How did how did they
- 18:03Speaker 1: how did they come about? Well, Vivica, that's my friend.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Now I want to let you know, how are you
- 18:08Speaker 1: are you guys just still taking the show now? We're yeah,
- 18:11Speaker 1: we're on break this week, but we take usually three
- 18:13Speaker 1: weeks out of every month, and we take two big Thursdays.
- 18:16Speaker 1: You see telling you did Roshan McDonald's show. Okay, that's
- 18:21Speaker 1: a friend. Okay, so know that, you know, you get
- 18:23Speaker 1: in my circle now. Yeah. Vivica is great. She has
- 18:27Speaker 1: We honored her the nonprofit that I run. We gave
- 18:30Speaker 1: her an Icon Award in May because of this great
- 18:33Speaker 1: work she's done over so many decades. But she's fantastic.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And then we have a doctor. Her name is Dr
- 18:37Speaker 1: Jucky Hell. She's life was clinical psychology. So we have
- 18:40Speaker 1: people that really know what they're talking about. We have
- 18:43Speaker 1: a former, a retired judge, she was Gonna Fench in Michigan,
- 18:47Speaker 1: Ry Mary. And then we have a life coach. Her
- 18:51Speaker 1: name is Rosie Mercado and she's a woman who's had
- 18:54Speaker 1: her own journey with weightlars. She was over four hundred
- 18:56Speaker 1: pounds and she lost over a hundred yeah fifty pack hound.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Just so so you get all of these different, uh,
- 19:04Speaker 1: you know, people coming from you know, their different perspectives
- 19:08Speaker 1: coming together to give this advice. So I think that's
- 19:11Speaker 1: what makes the show unique. Everybody has their own different journey,
- 19:14Speaker 1: the different angle, the way they see the problems that
- 19:17Speaker 1: the guests have. Uh, and you know the way we
- 19:20Speaker 1: think because like I said, I became a fan of
- 19:24Speaker 1: your talents on CNN, and that's a different tone, you
- 19:27Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. That's a different that's a different layer.
- 19:30Speaker 1: And so I'm just trying to find out because it's
- 19:32Speaker 1: about using the media to build your brand, and you're
- 19:34Speaker 1: you're your your layered and so many different angles on
- 19:37Speaker 1: television and then the media and perception. Who what brand
- 19:41Speaker 1: do you want to everything? What makes you like a
- 19:43Speaker 1: let Just using example Steve already he was known for
- 19:45Speaker 1: being a comedian and then I think he became author
- 19:48Speaker 1: or personality or radio personality, and I was able to
- 19:51Speaker 1: shape that as an entertainer. Okay, entertainer you are. You
- 19:55Speaker 1: have a law firm, your mom, I said this, your mom,
- 19:58Speaker 1: Your legal analysts don't tell a vision. Okay. Now you
- 20:01Speaker 1: have this show and it's conflict driven and then you're
- 20:03Speaker 1: sharing the meet you're sharing the emotions in the format
- 20:07Speaker 1: with other talented people. How do you shape your brand
- 20:10Speaker 1: out of that to pop out? How do you how
- 20:11Speaker 1: do you make that work for you? And that's a
- 20:14Speaker 1: really good question. So at the heart of like you
- 20:16Speaker 1: said speed that the heart is a comedian. At the
- 20:18Speaker 1: heart of me, I'm an advocate, so I'm you know,
- 20:21Speaker 1: my legal training you know helps me, you know, discerning
- 20:24Speaker 1: what your legal issues may be. But at the heart
- 20:26Speaker 1: of it, I'm an advocate for under certain people. So
- 20:29Speaker 1: I'm always looking for that angle. I'm always looking for,
- 20:32Speaker 1: you know, how can I help someone go to that
- 20:35Speaker 1: next level? How do I so on the show? You know,
- 20:38Speaker 1: I'm kind of the cheerleader person, so after I beat
- 20:41Speaker 1: you up, I'm gonna be the person who's gonna build
- 20:42Speaker 1: you back up. Uh. So I'm gonna give you some
- 20:45Speaker 1: tough club, but I'm also gonna be that person sharing
- 20:48Speaker 1: and rooting for you. Uh. And that's what I do.
- 20:51Speaker 1: You know, whether I'm doing hard hitting news. Can you
- 20:54Speaker 1: say that to tell you I'm a marketing brandy guy.
- 20:57Speaker 1: You're an advocate for the unserved, You're champion for the undog,
- 21:01Speaker 1: for the underdog. That's you. If you please tell them
- 21:04Speaker 1: to put that because that is so that is so you.
- 21:06Speaker 1: And when you said that, I just lit up because,
- 21:11Speaker 1: first of all, when you said I believe it, your
- 21:14Speaker 1: results of it, and you have a career that says
- 21:17Speaker 1: I tell the truth. So when you say you're an advocate,
- 21:20Speaker 1: because I saw that nowhere in your paperwork, and I
- 21:24Speaker 1: want you to say that that is something I want
- 21:25Speaker 1: you to continually say. I wanted you to build on that.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I want to the big part of your legacy because
- 21:31Speaker 1: that is part of a brand that you can take
- 21:33Speaker 1: to the next level with your career. And I'm saying
- 21:35Speaker 1: you need ra Sean McDonald's help, but believe me, with
- 21:37Speaker 1: ra Sean McDonald give us advice, a lot of people
- 21:39Speaker 1: do listen, and I've listened to Rashan McDonald. Man. I'm
- 21:46Speaker 1: writing that down because that's not in my paperwork because
- 21:51Speaker 1: I say that conflict. You read my book, if you
- 21:53Speaker 1: read anything that I've so you know we're gonna make
- 21:56Speaker 1: sure because I'm just telling you. That's what I'm just
- 21:59Speaker 1: trying to say. When I when I I want to
- 22:01Speaker 1: call your family, I want to call you a person
- 22:03Speaker 1: that I've always been a fan of. Not having money
- 22:05Speaker 1: making conversations allowed me to meet so many people that
- 22:08Speaker 1: I've been cheering on the outside. It's amazing. My wife,
- 22:11Speaker 1: she looked at me. I said, she's good, she's talent
- 22:13Speaker 1: it she's she said, what'd you stop? I said, well,
- 22:16Speaker 1: she did this, she can be there. But I was
- 22:19Speaker 1: just telling you already there, and that's just a note
- 22:21Speaker 1: and trying to understand your brand and saying that you're
- 22:24Speaker 1: an advocate. An advocate, that's such a powerful word for
- 22:26Speaker 1: your brand, and please use it all the time. Okay,
- 22:29Speaker 1: Reva all, I will thank you absolutely. I received that
- 22:32Speaker 1: one thing about me. I tell people all the time.
- 22:34Speaker 1: You know, you know show business, the show business people
- 22:36Speaker 1: is a big echo chamber. Just tell you over and
- 22:38Speaker 1: over again, how wonderful, how great? How And I said,
- 22:41Speaker 1: you know what I telling the show business, from the
- 22:43Speaker 1: regal business and the legal business. Ain't nobody complimenting you.
- 22:45Speaker 1: They're constantly telling you what you did wrong. I've been
- 22:51Speaker 1: doing a lot right. You're doing a lot right. She's
- 22:55Speaker 1: she's the host of Face the Truth is on CBS
- 22:57Speaker 1: or Reva Martin, thank you. You have my support it.
