- 1:47Speaker 1: have to help you do that. To change people life,
- 1:49Speaker 1: you have to have guests that that open people's mind.
- 1:51Speaker 1: My next guest is one of those special people. Um.
- 1:54Speaker 1: She was my very first guest when I launched money
- 1:58Speaker 1: Making conversation a year ago. And that's how special she is.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I was just rushing on McDonald she you know where
- 2:03Speaker 1: it is being broadcast. She's an incredible entertainer, arthur and entrepreneur.
- 2:08Speaker 1: She is a force on the stage, screen and kitchen.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Her website is Patti la Belle, her Facebook is Patti
- 2:15Speaker 1: la Belle, her Instagram is Miss Patti La Belle, and
- 2:18Speaker 1: her Twitter count is miss Patty Patty. Please welcome to
- 2:21Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations, Miss Patti La Belle. Girl, you are
- 2:31Speaker 1: a brand. You are a brand, and I had to
- 2:34Speaker 1: put it out there everybody to know. You know, you
- 2:35Speaker 1: didn't control of your name, you know, because some people
- 2:38Speaker 1: that go, I am the real, I am this the
- 2:41Speaker 1: one and only. No, no, no, no, I'm miss Patty Lam.
- 2:49Speaker 1: That's that's that's a great. Uh. Congratulations and all your
- 2:53Speaker 1: success being an entrepreneur. But I want before we get
- 2:56Speaker 1: into that part, I want to talk about you being
- 2:58Speaker 1: on virg one to Mother Day Special, which airs tonight.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Dear Mama, A Love Letter to Mom's premiering again on
- 3:05Speaker 1: VH one tonight. It's nine pm Eastern Standard Time, hosted
- 3:09Speaker 1: by my good friend Lalla Anthony and my boy, Anthony,
- 3:12Speaker 1: and tell us about what you're doing on the show tonight. Well,
- 3:16Speaker 1: I'm surprising pup Daddy's mother with one of her sons,
- 3:20Speaker 1: of Patty labels that she loves you are my friends,
- 3:23Speaker 1: and I just, I mean, I was so happy to
- 3:27Speaker 1: have been asked to do this, you know, and I've
- 3:29Speaker 1: known Puffy and his mother for a long time and
- 3:32Speaker 1: they're so genuine And how do you say no to
- 3:35Speaker 1: something like that? Well, you know you, you know you're
- 3:38Speaker 1: a conversationalist in concert because I've seen you many times
- 3:41Speaker 1: and you are. You move people and you motivate people
- 3:44Speaker 1: through your music. I've seen people, I've seen people cry,
- 3:48Speaker 1: I've seen people go to church in your concerts. That
- 3:52Speaker 1: that that that carries a lot of responsibility when you
- 3:55Speaker 1: do a show, doesn't it, Patty? What of course it
- 3:59Speaker 1: does because once uh it's always go on stage and
- 4:04Speaker 1: then my musical director and are we go over the list.
- 4:07Speaker 1: It's like Penny songs for an hour and uh thirty
- 4:10Speaker 1: minutes or ever how long I can be on stage.
- 4:13Speaker 1: But whenever I go out and see the audience, that
- 4:16Speaker 1: list change every day and never so five shows song
- 4:23Speaker 1: every night, the same song will be different because I
- 4:25Speaker 1: sing it differently. I interpret things differently every time I
- 4:29Speaker 1: get on stage, so you can never predict what Patty's
- 4:32Speaker 1: Donna sing or say. And I believe that. Now you've
- 4:35Speaker 1: got a big concert Mother's Day concert coming up May
- 4:38Speaker 1: thirteen at the James L. Mac Night Center, which I've
- 4:41Speaker 1: been there many times and Steve Harvey. That's a great
- 4:43Speaker 1: facility in Miami, Florida. And if you want any additional dates,
- 4:49Speaker 1: go to Patty LaBelle dot com and you can get
- 4:51Speaker 1: the tickets. Now let's let's go to this acting. This
- 4:54Speaker 1: is acting that you're doing now. You know you on
- 4:57Speaker 1: you on the Star Foxes TV show Star You playing
- 5:01Speaker 1: Queen Latifa's mother. Christine tell us about that role, Well,
- 5:05Speaker 1: paint Letifa is one of my best friends from back
- 5:08Speaker 1: in the day, and she always would call me sort
- 5:10Speaker 1: of like mom. And you know, since the guy, it's
- 5:13Speaker 1: like I say to her mother's son. I I accepted
- 5:18Speaker 1: Queen toward in Philadelphia about a week after her mother
- 5:21Speaker 1: past because she couldn't accept it. And when I heard
- 5:24Speaker 1: I was going to play her mother, I said, this
- 5:26Speaker 1: is just perfect. But then when I heard I was
- 5:27Speaker 1: playing a gangster, like I gangster mom just be a
- 5:32Speaker 1: stretch and most of my friends thank you, thank you,
- 5:38Speaker 1: what is who you did? And I am that woman Brandy.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Brandy is also my daughter on this ster and I'm
- 5:46Speaker 1: going to go back and do some more episode Lee Daniels. Then,
- 5:51Speaker 1: I mean, I'm happy to do that. So and then
- 5:53Speaker 1: I'm on the show Green Leaves over Winfrey's on the
- 5:56Speaker 1: own network. I'm playing a minister. I'm a past. Okay,
- 6:00Speaker 1: so you playing a gangster, you're playing a gangster mom
- 6:03Speaker 1: on the Star and you're playing a minister. A minister.
- 6:11Speaker 1: That's diversity, there, girl, that's diversity. And then on a Netflix,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I'm playing Patty LaBelle. I am h Alan Arkin's wife
- 6:20Speaker 1: dies and it's with Jay Leno and Michael Douglas and
- 6:25Speaker 1: I'm playing Patty Labell singing Lady Marmalade at funeral, and
- 6:28Speaker 1: you know that's that's a stretch to sing that kind
- 6:31Speaker 1: of thing out of funeral. I've offered things and I'm
- 6:37Speaker 1: just happy to be in the position not I am
- 6:39Speaker 1: a sent me three because usually when you age you
- 6:44Speaker 1: things don't come to you as much. You know, you
- 6:46Speaker 1: you you disappear, and I've not I've not been you
- 6:50Speaker 1: know disappearing with both and it's just a blessing. You know.
- 6:54Speaker 1: I know that it could happen the other way totally
- 6:57Speaker 1: for me, but it's happening in a great way. Well,
- 6:59Speaker 1: you know that's why that's why I mentioned social media
- 7:03Speaker 1: to you, because you are relevant and that's that's really
- 7:06Speaker 1: the difference in being seventy three twenty years ago and
- 7:09Speaker 1: being seventy three today, because you're relevant on Facebook, you're
- 7:13Speaker 1: relevant on Twitter, you're relevant on Instagram, and it used
- 7:16Speaker 1: to be just having a website and the fan club.
- 7:18Speaker 1: So don't don't underseil yourself because of the fact that
- 7:21Speaker 1: you've made yourself a topical brand. And I always tell
- 7:24Speaker 1: people about that, especially as an entrepreneur. You being so
- 7:27Speaker 1: topical means that we can follow you as fans. You
- 7:30Speaker 1: your engagement or whatever you post something on your social
- 7:33Speaker 1: media is powerful and relevant. And also you post inspirational
- 7:36Speaker 1: quotes too that inspire us to realize that you know,
- 7:40Speaker 1: there's no age when you cannot be successful. That's what
- 7:43Speaker 1: your vision is for me. And you know also that
- 7:47Speaker 1: made me feel so great as when I did dance
- 7:49Speaker 1: at the start and after that at the airport Glowsing Mark,
- 7:53Speaker 1: people so you did that at seventy once a. We
- 7:55Speaker 1: can do anything any of you put your heart too.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Just as now, let's talk about this. Let's talk about this,
- 8:03Speaker 1: this cooking show, because I'm tired of people. I'm telling you.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I don't know how word got out that I was
- 8:09Speaker 1: bringing you on my show, but I've had least three
- 8:11Speaker 1: celebrities called me go how can I gives? Just asked
- 8:15Speaker 1: Patty how can I get booked on her cooking show?
- 8:18Speaker 1: So please tell the world, Patty, how do you get
- 8:21Speaker 1: your guests for your show? Because I'm t I'm talking
- 8:23Speaker 1: driving up here today. I got two texts. Please tell
- 8:27Speaker 1: Patty show. Please tell Patty. So how do you get
- 8:30Speaker 1: on your Well, first of all, you don't have to
- 8:33Speaker 1: be a celebrity, Okay, we can do just an everyday
- 8:37Speaker 1: woman or man or whatever. Uh. And I have a
- 8:40Speaker 1: lot of celebrities that's been on the shows because that
- 8:43Speaker 1: has just come out and ask them. And so if
- 8:45Speaker 1: there are any celebrities that want to ask me, can
- 8:47Speaker 1: they be on? Just go to Patty dot com and
- 8:50Speaker 1: put it out there and I'll let you know if
- 8:52Speaker 1: you're worthy. But I'm only joking the gangster side of
- 8:57Speaker 1: you that was the gig Society. I love I love
- 9:03Speaker 1: one in your show because because you know you're you're
- 9:06Speaker 1: you know, you pick stuff over your hands because your
- 9:08Speaker 1: hands are clean, because you know a lot of cooking
- 9:09Speaker 1: shows you everything, everything is with fogs and everything. But
- 9:13Speaker 1: when you're cooking in your kitchen, come on, now, you're
- 9:15Speaker 1: handed cleaning. I remember when Jay Harden, you know, and
- 9:19Speaker 1: take off those rains. You can't being handed rings. There
- 9:23Speaker 1: you go, there you go, there you go. Now I've
- 9:27Speaker 1: done some things with the rings on, but I's not
- 9:29Speaker 1: with mixing. You can't mix stuff with dirty fingernails and rings.
- 9:33Speaker 1: You cannot do that. You cannot do that. You absolutely
- 9:35Speaker 1: tell Now, let mens you this about the Patty's Good Lifeline,
- 9:39Speaker 1: which is currently included pies, cobblers. Just the entrepreneurship side though.
- 9:44Speaker 1: What I want to just keep at seventy three that
- 9:46Speaker 1: you becoming a brand with banana pudding and fancy kicks
- 9:51Speaker 1: all available with Walmart. Where is that that right now?
- 9:54Speaker 1: Tell us how I know it's exploding. Tell us about it.
- 9:57Speaker 1: It's exploding. And I'm a so uh. I have betting
- 10:01Speaker 1: you know at Macy. I have betting at um Walmart also,
- 10:06Speaker 1: and I have so many other things like twenty eight
- 10:09Speaker 1: items about to appear, you know, uh my brand, and
- 10:13Speaker 1: we're just moving right along with quality. Uh nothing so
- 10:18Speaker 1: better taste so naty you don't want to eat, or
- 10:21Speaker 1: something not so soft that you don't want to put
- 10:23Speaker 1: on your bed. So I'm doing the best I can
- 10:26Speaker 1: with what I have. And what I have is my
- 10:28Speaker 1: son who is my manager, and friends Alex, you know,
- 10:32Speaker 1: who pushed me like crazy and for years they've been
- 10:35Speaker 1: working for this good Life brand. And the Sweet Potato
- 10:39Speaker 1: Pies were the first thing that you know, we put
- 10:42Speaker 1: out there and they did quite quite well, and they're
- 10:44Speaker 1: still doing one. We know the thing I just want
- 10:46Speaker 1: to tell everybody about. You know, you be on v
- 10:49Speaker 1: H one to night on Dear Mama Special and you've
- 10:53Speaker 1: been concerned made thirteener James L. Knight in Miami, Florida.
- 10:58Speaker 1: But you're such a brand, such a topical inspiration, and
- 11:01Speaker 1: the fact that when I'm talking to you, you seem
- 11:04Speaker 1: so happy because you're so happy because the variety that
- 11:07Speaker 1: multiple streams of income is surrounding your life. Did you
- 11:11Speaker 1: see this coming? I know your son, you know, I
- 11:13Speaker 1: know him very well, and he was always we can
- 11:16Speaker 1: do more. We can do more, and to see it
- 11:18Speaker 1: coming into fruition. What are your thoughts on that, Patty?
- 11:21Speaker 1: My thoughts would be on that that it should have
- 11:23Speaker 1: happened because my it's quality, you know. And then I
- 11:28Speaker 1: knew too that being the black woman who wouldn't be
- 11:31Speaker 1: accepted as quickly as maybe Betty Crocker or Paula Dean
- 11:36Speaker 1: or anything. So they worked so hard and I worked
- 11:39Speaker 1: for her and perfecting the recipes for the isem that
- 11:42Speaker 1: I knew it had to do something because I know
- 11:44Speaker 1: it's great, not good, it's great. And I can't put
- 11:48Speaker 1: my name on anything. I know you can't. I know
- 11:50Speaker 1: that's absolutely true. And I'm gonna just tell everybody before
- 11:53Speaker 1: we in this interview about you as an individual, and
- 11:56Speaker 1: I mentioned it earlier in my intro Dad when I
- 11:59Speaker 1: launched money May in conversation. You know, there's a lot
- 12:02Speaker 1: of friendship. A lot of people say you called rashaan
- 12:04Speaker 1: show and you called me, and at the time, you know,
- 12:07Speaker 1: I just had one station in Houston, Texas, and you
- 12:11Speaker 1: trusted the instincts of supporting me. And I'm just gonna
- 12:14Speaker 1: let you know now you know, um on my Heart
- 12:16Speaker 1: Radio podcast, I get two and fifty thousand download today.

- 12:30Speaker 1: I have a fan club over two two thousand. I've
- 12:33Speaker 1: almost a million social media followers, and I'm gonna just
