- 1:01Speaker 1: the world, said singer. So I never heard singer in
- 1:05Speaker 1: her bio, So I'm gonna start out this. My neck
- 1:08Speaker 1: is is an accomplished producer, philanthropists, actress and singer Holly
- 1:14Speaker 1: Robinson Pete. She has on the show to talk about
- 1:16Speaker 1: her new news two new Hallmark holiday movie she did
- 1:20Speaker 1: two last year's. She was on the show talking about it.
- 1:22Speaker 1: The Christmas Doctor premier So I didn't know him a
- 1:25Speaker 1: fifteen at t ten pm on Hallmark Movies and Mr
- 1:28Speaker 1: Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Christmas in Evergreen premier December five
- 1:33Speaker 1: on Hallmark Channel. We were discussing racism. I gotta talk
- 1:36Speaker 1: about song on YouTube ran across me because we know
- 1:39Speaker 1: the time and pandemic. She has a handsome son who
- 1:41Speaker 1: works for the l. A Dodgers, so you know, I
- 1:44Speaker 1: got to talk about the l A Dodgers because you
- 1:46Speaker 1: know she They made such a humorous uh last year
- 1:49Speaker 1: when I went to Live Holly Holly rod Foundation, it
- 1:52Speaker 1: was so humorous how they was talking about he can
- 1:54Speaker 1: watch clothes at the for the Dodger, but he can't
- 1:56Speaker 1: watch clothes when you get home. Raising the family doing
- 1:59Speaker 1: the pandemic and how it's infected her charity, entertainment, livelihood
- 2:04Speaker 1: peas welcome a good friend to money making conversation Holly
- 2:07Speaker 1: Robinson Pete, Okay, okay, first of all, you're gonna put
- 2:13Speaker 1: some respect on my little singing career. I can't because
- 2:17Speaker 1: you know, I've known you. I'm sweaty. I've known her
- 2:19Speaker 1: at least twenty years. I am. I am a singer
- 2:21Speaker 1: in my own mind. So so let me just have that. Okay,
- 2:25Speaker 1: put that out there. So so when you know when
- 2:28Speaker 1: I'm going through doing my research, because but I don't
- 2:30Speaker 1: try to do it act like I know people even
- 2:32Speaker 1: though I know it. And so when I run across
- 2:34Speaker 1: a little Tippitt says. Right before they entered, they started
- 2:37Speaker 1: talking about, you know, the Christmas Doctor. They said, actress
- 2:40Speaker 1: and singer. Okay, well, okay, well let's let's settle in.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So this is what happened when I was on twenty
- 2:49Speaker 1: one Jumps Street. Before I got twenty one Jump Street
- 2:52Speaker 1: in the mid eighties, I was trying to get a
- 2:56Speaker 1: record deal. I came out of college. I wanted to
- 2:58Speaker 1: be a singer. I got the twenty one Jump Street.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I sang the theme song to twenty one Jump Street.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So I was feeling really good about myself. That was
- 3:06Speaker 1: late eighties, mid late eighties. Now, back then, Rashawn, you
- 3:10Speaker 1: might remember there were a lot of us black dresses
- 3:14Speaker 1: that were on TV that were had record deals. I
- 3:17Speaker 1: had one in Atlantic, t Shat Campbell had one Jazz,
- 3:20Speaker 1: but Guy had one. But here was the difference between
- 3:23Speaker 1: then and let's say now in the two thousands. Then,
- 3:26Speaker 1: when you were on TV or known as a TV
- 3:29Speaker 1: person that was not that was a hindrance to you
- 3:32Speaker 1: becoming a singer. And somewhere along the way Ariana Grande
- 3:37Speaker 1: of Miley Cyrus, Um, you just keep going. Um, a
- 3:42Speaker 1: TV show helped you become a singer and was a
- 3:45Speaker 1: platform for you to become a singer. So we just
- 3:48Speaker 1: didn't have very good timing. But I always loved to sing,
- 3:51Speaker 1: and I recorded a lot recorded with Prince, I recorded
- 3:54Speaker 1: with a lot of other people. But yeah, it's a
- 3:56Speaker 1: little known thing. And I sang the theme songs, and
- 4:00Speaker 1: so I consider myself a singer. You know, Um, you
- 4:03Speaker 1: know no one I've been to like several Holly Rod,
- 4:07Speaker 1: I'm coming up to come and cut you off. I
- 4:08Speaker 1: can do oh we're talking to me on this singing thing,
- 4:11Speaker 1: because I've been to several Holly Rod foundations. Never have
- 4:14Speaker 1: I seen you belt a tune. All brilliant comedic host,
- 4:18Speaker 1: a brilliant philanthropists. But you know so, so how did
- 4:22Speaker 1: the singing part become part of your intro again? That's
- 4:25Speaker 1: all I want to know. And we on the show
- 4:27Speaker 1: talking about Holly Robinson don't know. I think I think.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I think um publicists just decided they wanted me to
- 4:35Speaker 1: to be to to start thinking about that again, you know,
- 4:38Speaker 1: my third act, but I'm not really sure. Every now
- 4:41Speaker 1: and then singer does creep in there. But my my,
- 4:44Speaker 1: my fans from the from the early nineties and eighties
- 4:49Speaker 1: will remember some of my singing ambitions with my friends gone.
- 4:54Speaker 1: We're just gonna leave that there. Don't hate on I
- 4:56Speaker 1: want to be singer. I'm not gonna hate on you
- 4:58Speaker 1: because I can't hate on a dear friend. I can't
- 4:59Speaker 1: hate on a person who who has has longevity in
- 5:02Speaker 1: this business that we call entertainment. And we know there's
- 5:06Speaker 1: there's so many valleys in this business that when you
- 5:08Speaker 1: try to get a peek, it doesn't stay there for long.
- 5:10Speaker 1: You have two movies coming out on Hallmark The Christmas Doctor,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and then you have a Christmas in Evergreen. Let's talk
- 5:17Speaker 1: about it. Start out with The Christmas Doctor, which mirrors
- 5:20Speaker 1: Sunday and over. So The Christmas Doctor is a a
- 5:25Speaker 1: sweet Christmas love story that celebrates a homage basically two
- 5:29Speaker 1: doctors and nurses on the front lines. The irony is
- 5:32Speaker 1: that we were shooting it during the pandemic in Canada.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Uh and so it all felt very real. I was
- 5:40Speaker 1: very connected to it. I was able to executive produce
- 5:43Speaker 1: this project along with my buddy Al Roker and my
- 5:46Speaker 1: production partner Orally Addlson. We were able to produce it
- 5:50Speaker 1: together executive produce it. And that makes you just more
- 5:53Speaker 1: connected to the story, right, gives you more stakes. I
- 5:57Speaker 1: love doing this movie because, as you know, Hallmark Channel
- 6:01Speaker 1: is really you know, doing a great job at having
- 6:05Speaker 1: more diversity in their films and also letting us get
- 6:08Speaker 1: behind the scenes. Um. My co star Adrian Homes, a
- 6:11Speaker 1: very talented Canadian actor who really just sold a movie
- 6:16Speaker 1: for me because he was just he was just so
- 6:18Speaker 1: so hot and fiery on screen and just just believed
- 6:21Speaker 1: them and we shouted in Vancouver, British Columbia, which a
- 6:24Speaker 1: lot of people knows where I started my career again
- 6:28Speaker 1: on twenty one Jump Street, uh and been coming up
- 6:31Speaker 1: there pretty much for thirty five years making movies. So
- 6:33Speaker 1: it's like my second home. And Rashawn, they were so
- 6:37Speaker 1: prepared for us, for production and COVID. They just had
- 6:42Speaker 1: everything so perfectly planned out. They have very few cases
- 6:46Speaker 1: up there, so I felt very good. I took my
- 6:49Speaker 1: whole family. We had the quarantine too hard weeks, and
- 6:52Speaker 1: I mean the real quarantine, not the little stuff we'd
- 6:54Speaker 1: be doing in the States, like you could not leave
- 6:56Speaker 1: your house. Um before I could get on set. Once
- 7:00Speaker 1: I passed my COVID tests, I got on set, and
- 7:03Speaker 1: we were often running. Let's talk about that for a
- 7:05Speaker 1: minute there before we get into the next movie. Um
- 7:09Speaker 1: what what? What were your basic feelings. I'm gonna tell
- 7:11Speaker 1: you this when when COVID hit and they shut us down,
- 7:14Speaker 1: I was I didn't know how to even go out
- 7:16Speaker 1: and shop, you know. I had I had a pair
- 7:18Speaker 1: of gloves, I had a mask, I had, I had
- 7:21Speaker 1: some lightsaw, I had some a little a little parral
- 7:24Speaker 1: that I have somehow had in my house. My wife
- 7:27Speaker 1: had in the house, and so when I came out,
- 7:29Speaker 1: I didn't know I have to take off the glove.
- 7:31Speaker 1: So when you were traveling, because I'm sure you flew
- 7:34Speaker 1: to uh to Canada, correct And with that being to say,
- 7:38Speaker 1: how did you deal with that? Emotionally and mentally? Well,
- 7:42Speaker 1: emotionally and mentally like any mom trying to protect their family,
- 7:46Speaker 1: you know, it was scary. You know, you had to
- 7:48Speaker 1: try to figure out so many things together. We didn't
- 7:51Speaker 1: really know what We've never had to deal anything like this, right, No,
- 7:55Speaker 1: our mothers had didn't have to deal with anything like this,
- 7:57Speaker 1: So we don't really have a lot of a lot
- 7:59Speaker 1: of work with as far as what is going on.
- 8:02Speaker 1: And then you know, we're not been getting to too
- 8:04Speaker 1: much politics. But uh, you know, we didn't have real good,
- 8:08Speaker 1: great leadership. So the first thing you want to do is,
- 8:10Speaker 1: you know, look to the top to go all right, shoot,
- 8:12Speaker 1: what do we do? We in this together? But we
- 8:13Speaker 1: didn't have that. Fortunately for some of us, we had
- 8:16Speaker 1: governors and mayors that were really on it. And I
- 8:19Speaker 1: feel like in the beginning, California was you know, briefing
- 8:23Speaker 1: us every day and we were just getting a lot
- 8:25Speaker 1: of information, and I felt like we were all on
- 8:26Speaker 1: the same page. So that was very helpful, but it
- 8:30Speaker 1: was scary. Um, I had a lot of confidence in Canada.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest, I had more confidence in Canada
- 8:36Speaker 1: than I did in my own country. Was not a
- 8:38Speaker 1: good thing to be able to have to say, but
- 8:40Speaker 1: that was the fact. So when they said come on
- 8:42Speaker 1: up and she one movie to two movies back to back,
- 8:47Speaker 1: and you can bring your family. But these are the rules.
- 8:50Speaker 1: You gotta take your temperature every single day, you have
- 8:52Speaker 1: to do a lot of paperwork. Um, these are the rules.
- 8:55Speaker 1: You can't leave your house, you can't do this, you
- 8:56Speaker 1: can't do that. So I felt very protected, you know,
- 9:00Speaker 1: oh Rashawn. I felt very much like they had my
- 9:03Speaker 1: back and that I could go up. And then the
- 9:05Speaker 1: blessing to be able to work right, so many people
- 9:07Speaker 1: were out of work, so that was not something that
- 9:10Speaker 1: I did not, you know, express a lot of gratitude
- 9:15Speaker 1: for I was a huge blessing. But I felt very
- 9:18Speaker 1: very taken care of, you know, but as a mom,
- 9:21Speaker 1: you know, running families and you know and making sure
- 9:24Speaker 1: your kids are okay, you have to do a lot
- 9:27Speaker 1: and you want as mucial information as you can and
- 9:30Speaker 1: you can get important. And that's why I want everybody
- 9:32Speaker 1: to hear that, you know, because sometimes they look at
- 9:34Speaker 1: famous people and you're famous. You know, you've been in
- 9:36Speaker 1: front of our You've been iconic for us from from
- 9:39Speaker 1: a teenager too. We watch you get engaged on TV.
- 9:43Speaker 1: We watch you basically have your family and raised your
- 9:46Speaker 1: family before our eyes, and you still have maintained that.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I remember when you did the Neighborhood Awards for me
- 9:52Speaker 1: and you were pregnant. I remember you were presenting pregnant.
- 9:54Speaker 1: So I know what you will do when when a
- 9:57Speaker 1: friend calls you and asked you to to to to
- 10:00Speaker 1: deliver something that you said I'm going to do. Now.
- 10:04Speaker 1: You did back to back movies, Holly and so I'm
- 10:07Speaker 1: never acted. So that whole memorization part of doing something
- 10:10Speaker 1: like that, because the movies were totally different. How do
- 10:14Speaker 1: you First of all, you told us what the Christmas
- 10:16Speaker 1: Doctor was, Christmas in the Evergreen tell us the difference
- 10:19Speaker 1: in that movie or the storyline of that movie, but
- 10:22Speaker 1: also the somewhat difficulties of being able to do back
- 10:25Speaker 1: to back movies that are not a sequel. So Christmas
- 10:29Speaker 1: and Evergreen is the fourth installment of a series of
- 10:33Speaker 1: movies about a mystical town in the Evergreen Evergreen, Vermont,
- 10:39Speaker 1: which is a a town that is very um Christmas E. Right,
- 10:44Speaker 1: we do Christmas so well, everything is like it's the
- 10:49Speaker 1: Christmas always. Basically, I play Mayor Michelle, who's the mayor
- 10:53Speaker 1: of Evergreen. The first female man had black mayor. So
- 10:59Speaker 1: I modeled model my little character off of off of
- 11:02Speaker 1: my off of my black female mayors. Because we have
- 11:05Speaker 1: so many great ones in America. So, um, I got
- 11:11Speaker 1: to I get to make sure the town is ready
- 11:13Speaker 1: for Christmas. And uh, it's a it's a you know,
- 11:17Speaker 1: a movie about togetherness in community. Everyone comes together. So
- 11:20Speaker 1: we thought that was really a nice theme to be
- 11:23Speaker 1: celebrating right now as well. Um, the set for Shawn
- 11:27Speaker 1: is so amazing. I mean people tease, you know Hallmark
- 11:30Speaker 1: Movies and Mystery Hallmark Channel, um movies a little bit
- 11:35Speaker 1: about um, how Christmas E everything is and how it's
- 11:39Speaker 1: so over the top. Well, this actual movie set, the
- 11:45Speaker 1: core was so beautiful and magical. When you walk on
- 11:48Speaker 1: to set, it's just like you're instantly in Christmas. And
- 11:52Speaker 1: so it really it's just such a beautiful movie. And
- 11:56Speaker 1: so this is the fourth fourth movie the last time
- 11:59Speaker 1: you see Michelle, she got proposed to by Thomas. And
- 12:02Speaker 1: so this movie is called Christmas Never Green bells are
- 12:05Speaker 1: ringing and uh so the the the town comes together
- 12:09Speaker 1: for some nice, beautiful Christmas events. As far as trying
- 12:13Speaker 1: to remember lines and everything, I don't do that as
- 12:16Speaker 1: well as I did back in the Stump Street hang
- 12:19Speaker 1: with Mr Cooper for your love days because I don't
- 12:21Speaker 1: have the many brain cells. I'm a little bit more
- 12:23Speaker 1: mature now, Rashaan, Absolutely, but you're still beautiful and you
- 12:26Speaker 1: still dynamic. Thank you, thank you. That's that's that's the
- 12:29Speaker 1: response I was looking for. Um and uh but yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 1: I got confused because I would go from one movie
- 12:37Speaker 1: to the next, and I got totally confused with characters.
- 12:42Speaker 1: So I would call people by different names from different movies.
- 12:46Speaker 1: And so we laughed about it, and you know, you
- 12:48Speaker 1: just take it one, one scene at a time. For me,
- 12:51Speaker 1: That's that's why I wanted people to hear about. You know,
- 12:54Speaker 1: when you when you're called upon to do something like
- 12:56Speaker 1: and a lot of people think it's easy. You know,
- 12:58Speaker 1: well she just did back to back movies. We're all
- 13:00Speaker 1: that's not you know, sometimes there's they'll do there do
- 13:03Speaker 1: their out of art of their cross productions and things
- 13:06Speaker 1: like that. They say, well, you know, your hair looked
- 13:08Speaker 1: like this, so we need to shoot that scene right
- 13:10Speaker 1: now on this particular movie on this side, and the
- 13:13Speaker 1: descripted is about this and you your love and this
- 13:15Speaker 1: scene and this scene you're delivering Christmas packages. So it
- 13:18Speaker 1: really is a really it puts your acting skills to
- 13:21Speaker 1: true task when you're doing back to back movies. But
- 13:24Speaker 1: it really does. And you have to just be so
- 13:26Speaker 1: you know, disciplines and so you know, and the hours
- 13:29Speaker 1: are long, right, the hours are really long. Comtime, we
- 13:32Speaker 1: only have eight or nine hours in between we have
- 13:34Speaker 1: to work, and it's it's definitely a grind. But again
- 13:37Speaker 1: the blessing of of work and the opportunity to make
- 13:42Speaker 1: movies and content that I think is really very important.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Right now. We have had, um, you know, some tough
- 13:48Speaker 1: times and Christmas is going to be difficult for a
- 13:50Speaker 1: lot of people because a lot of people won't be
- 13:52Speaker 1: able to travel and see their loved ones. And so
- 13:54Speaker 1: these movies and the joy and this content is something
- 13:57Speaker 1: I'm really proud of. Well you have too, Hall Mardin
- 14:00Speaker 1: Holiday Movies, November fift is the Christmas Doctor that's premiering Sunday,
- 14:04Speaker 1: November ten pm on Hallmark Movies. Uh. And also you
- 14:08Speaker 1: have Christmas and Evergreen that's premiering December five on the
- 14:13Speaker 1: Hallmark Channel. And this is really uh. You know when
- 14:16Speaker 1: I when I look at your career that I look
- 14:17Speaker 1: at their ability of relationships. And you know, I always
- 14:21Speaker 1: talk about that when I come on Money Made Conversations
- 14:24Speaker 1: because you're you're an entrepreneur and a lot of people
- 14:26Speaker 1: understand the value of relationships because they said, hey, I
- 14:29Speaker 1: just want to make money. When you have to make
- 14:30Speaker 1: money and all just make sustained money, you have to
- 14:32Speaker 1: have relationships and those are tied to people who respect
- 14:35Speaker 1: your work, respect the fact that you will show up
- 14:37Speaker 1: on time, respect that you deliver what they've requested of you,
- 14:41Speaker 1: especially when they paid you to do a certain task.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Let's talk about your longevity, because you've done so many
- 14:47Speaker 1: different things, and to see that you have this series
- 14:50Speaker 1: of Hallmark UH movie series that you've you've created, and
- 14:54Speaker 1: because I've been interviewing your last several years about this,
- 14:57Speaker 1: let's talk about that and just and then I want
- 14:59Speaker 1: to transition to just a whole pandemic and raising the
- 15:01Speaker 1: family during the pandemic. Well, um, first of all, thank
- 15:07Speaker 1: you for your constant messaging. Your messaging is always so
- 15:12Speaker 1: uplifting about I mean, you know, this is what people
- 15:16Speaker 1: need to hear. I tell my kids the same thing.
- 15:18Speaker 1: It's about relationships. It's about building a little empire. It's
- 15:22Speaker 1: not about just oh, go get this money over here
- 15:24Speaker 1: and get this money over there. You've got to have
- 15:27Speaker 1: a strategy in your life. And the biggest, most important
- 15:30Speaker 1: element I think of that strategy should be relationships and
- 15:34Speaker 1: how you connect with people. I'm constantly telling my kids that, uh,
- 15:39Speaker 1: don't burn bridges, you know, just just and stay focused
- 15:42Speaker 1: and and don't I think it was in the intro
- 15:45Speaker 1: that Stephen and said, you know, don't know you said it.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I think that just don't select the small stuff, like
- 15:49Speaker 1: just get your eye on a bigger prize. With all
- 15:52Speaker 1: Park Channel, it's been a real blessing. Listen, I'm a
- 15:55Speaker 1: woman of a certain age. And I only mentioned that
- 15:57Speaker 1: because you know, there was a time where a black
- 16:00Speaker 1: actress over fifty didn't work that much. And so to
- 16:04Speaker 1: be able to bang out all these Hallmark Channel movies
- 16:08Speaker 1: and and and I also have a series on Hallmark
- 16:11Speaker 1: movies and mysteries called Morning Show Mysteries with Rick Fox,
- 16:14Speaker 1: and you know, to be able to do I'm you know,
- 16:17Speaker 1: I've done like this close to thirteen movies for them already,
- 16:21Speaker 1: and that is a blessing to be able to be
- 16:24Speaker 1: in that system over there. I'm always looking out too,
- 16:27Speaker 1: and and then let me involved, get involved in casting
- 16:30Speaker 1: and like I said, because I could producing and storylines
- 16:33Speaker 1: and just little things even decors like sometimes I'll you know,
- 16:37Speaker 1: be on the set and you know, I'll go to
- 16:39Speaker 1: the art department and give them some of my chocolate
- 16:42Speaker 1: Santa clauses and put some of these up in the background,
- 16:44Speaker 1: you know, so things like this, little stuff like that, Sean,
- 16:48Speaker 1: where you just you get to have a voice. And
- 16:51Speaker 1: I think I'm really blessed to be able to say that.
- 16:53Speaker 1: But that comes with years of relationships. Have I burned
- 16:56Speaker 1: the bridge here and there? Have I had some issues
- 16:58Speaker 1: here and there? Yes, But my main goal has been,
- 17:02Speaker 1: you know, really having relationships and friendships and nurturing those
- 17:06Speaker 1: over the years. Now, like I told you my experience,
- 17:11Speaker 1: I have a beautiful wife, I have a lovely daughter
- 17:13Speaker 1: who's in a senior year of college, and she's doing
- 17:15Speaker 1: virtual and uh. And in some ways the Zoom virtual
- 17:20Speaker 1: world has really been a blessing for her because she's
- 17:22Speaker 1: outspoken now. It's caused her to be a leader on
- 17:25Speaker 1: her on but it has all those has caused us
- 17:28Speaker 1: to change our lifestyle happens, you know, the way we eat. Uh.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I remember the first step when we was lockdown. If
- 17:34Speaker 1: I got a light a slight cough, I didn't know
- 17:36Speaker 1: if it was a cough due to the weather change,
- 17:39Speaker 1: due to you know, some of outside bologies. You know,
- 17:43Speaker 1: I didn't know, you know. So I'm taking night coil
- 17:45Speaker 1: cough drive. I'm taking everything, you know, anything, And the
- 17:48Speaker 1: shifted my my temperament. I got, I got the I
- 17:51Speaker 1: got the thermo. You know, you walk near me, I
- 17:54Speaker 1: can just hit you on your forehead and find out
- 17:55Speaker 1: your temperature. I had it all okay, So now I
- 17:59Speaker 1: realized my body is just being my body. But then,
- 18:02Speaker 1: you know, I had just my wife and my daughter.
- 18:05Speaker 1: You have way more than a husband, and and and
- 18:08Speaker 1: wanted two kids and adults and all that stuff, and
- 18:11Speaker 1: then family members and how did you deal with it
- 18:13Speaker 1: during the pandemic as well as maintained the fact that
- 18:16Speaker 1: you were going to be exiting to do two movies
- 18:19Speaker 1: back to back. Well, listen, I was a little bit
- 18:23Speaker 1: of a gangster mom. So my little because my son's
- 18:26Speaker 1: wanted to, you know, oh, can I go over this
- 18:28Speaker 1: one's house and that I'm not. No, You're not gonna
- 18:30Speaker 1: bring that running back to me and mess with my bag.
- 18:33Speaker 1: That's exactly what I told them. Rashaan, you appreciate this.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I was like, let me explain something to you. You
- 18:39Speaker 1: go hang out with this guy and then you and
- 18:44Speaker 1: you you don't wear a mask whatever you're bringing home
- 18:46Speaker 1: to Mama. Then I gotta call production company and say
- 18:49Speaker 1: I have the coronavirus and I can't come to Canada
- 18:53Speaker 1: and make these two movies. And then you know that
- 18:55Speaker 1: little pec you want that you think that you need
- 18:57Speaker 1: to have so badly, that's not coming from Like I
- 19:00Speaker 1: had to break it down like that, you don't get
- 19:03Speaker 1: in mama's bag, don't get in my bag, don't mess
- 19:07Speaker 1: up my bag. And we laughed about it because because
- 19:10Speaker 1: they were like, Mom, you just they would call me
- 19:11Speaker 1: Dr foul to you, they were like, okay, Dr Foul,
- 19:14Speaker 1: and I'm kind of listen, I'm just trying to tell
- 19:17Speaker 1: y'all that this your your actions have consequences, So I
- 19:22Speaker 1: understand how difficult this is as an eighteen year old.
- 19:25Speaker 1: You know, in a fifteen year old and you guys
- 19:27Speaker 1: want to go and do things, but you're young and
- 19:30Speaker 1: you have a better chance of surviving and and all
- 19:33Speaker 1: that stuff. So I had to paint a bigger, very
- 19:36Speaker 1: clear picture for them about the consequences of their action.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I got to bring up this one other project that
- 19:41Speaker 1: you're doing on television. You've joined the cast of ABC's
- 19:45Speaker 1: hit comedy American Housewife now in this fifth season. How
- 19:49Speaker 1: did that come about? And again and you know, you
- 19:52Speaker 1: throw out the word over fifty and working the shot.
- 19:55Speaker 1: I feel blessed. But talent allows that to happen to
- 19:59Speaker 1: in professionals. My allows that happened, and your name as
- 20:02Speaker 1: a singer and an actress and an executive producer, Shawn,
- 20:10Speaker 1: I love it. Tell them about American or we're about
- 20:12Speaker 1: to go in the comedy. So I had to bring
- 20:14Speaker 1: it up, we're going to the common American Housewife something.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I love you. Listen, what were we just talking about
- 20:21Speaker 1: American Housewife? No no, no, I was just saying, like,
- 20:23Speaker 1: what were you and I were just talking about relationship? Absolutely,
- 20:27Speaker 1: absolutely after. That's what and that's where this came from.
- 20:31Speaker 1: So the executive producers showrunners of this show, American Housewife,
- 20:35Speaker 1: were two guys. I worked on a sitcom years ago
- 20:37Speaker 1: and only lasted one season called Like Family. Remember we
- 20:40Speaker 1: had a great We had a great relationship. I remember
- 20:43Speaker 1: because you know, we had a bunch of it was
- 20:45Speaker 1: a good show and we ran into a couple of
- 20:48Speaker 1: weird Hollywood things, but that we weren't able to continue.
- 20:51Speaker 1: But relationships we got along well, we were we laughed,
- 20:55Speaker 1: they had great you know, they had really great, um
- 20:58Speaker 1: you know, fond memories of just being on set with me.
- 21:00Speaker 1: And then they hit me up and said, hey, what
- 21:02Speaker 1: are you doing? And I told him about the Hallmark
- 21:04Speaker 1: stuff and and they hit me up and said, hey, um,
- 21:08Speaker 1: how do you feel about um coming onto the show.
- 21:12Speaker 1: We've had some cash changes and we need to um
- 21:16Speaker 1: have you know, just sort of spiced it up for
- 21:18Speaker 1: the fifth season. Well, I happened to actually really love
- 21:21Speaker 1: the show. Is very, very funny. And then I worked
- 21:25Speaker 1: before with Katie Mixon, who's the star of the show
- 21:29Speaker 1: right I was, She's a barely talented actress. And again,
- 21:32Speaker 1: relationships we got along super well. On Mike and Molly.
- 21:36Speaker 1: I was only on that show for thirteen episodes, but um,
- 21:40Speaker 1: we vibed, and so it all comes back again. Here
- 21:43Speaker 1: we are ten years later from Mike and Molly and
- 21:45Speaker 1: like fifteen years from like Family. Um, and then these
- 21:49Speaker 1: same people are still working and they look back and
- 21:51Speaker 1: they go, oh, let's let's let's call Holly and see
- 21:54Speaker 1: what she's doing. So I love that. I started this week,
- 21:57Speaker 1: I was nervous for Sean my my comedy. Those were
- 22:00Speaker 1: a little active, so you know how that goes. That's
- 22:04Speaker 1: a vibe, that's a that's an energy that grew if
- 22:07Speaker 1: you gotta get in. So I was very glad to
- 22:11Speaker 1: get that going again, but so very supported by just
- 22:15Speaker 1: the actors and the crew and the and the writers.
- 22:18Speaker 1: So but but you know, covid is it's a different
- 22:21Speaker 1: down here, down in l A coming off of Canada.
- 22:25Speaker 1: It's there actually a little bit more strict about everything
- 22:28Speaker 1: you touch, every surface you touch, every prop you touch.
- 22:33Speaker 1: So it is very interesting being on set and it's
- 22:35Speaker 1: a little limiting. Um. So you really have to pull
- 22:38Speaker 1: out your A game and be ready to go with
- 22:41Speaker 1: those cameras role because that's the only time you can
- 22:43Speaker 1: have your mask off. You don't really get proper rehearsal
- 22:45Speaker 1: with your co stars. So you gotta bring a step
- 22:49Speaker 1: up up to your A game as as much as
- 22:51Speaker 1: you can. Congratulations again. Uh you know this Sunday the
- 22:56Speaker 1: Christmas Doctor hallmar Chalnel December five, Christmas and Evergreen the
- 23:01Speaker 1: new season the fifth season of America's Housewife on ABC.
- 23:05Speaker 1: And how much credit is yours that dynamic young son
- 23:09Speaker 1: of yours he's taking for the for the world champion
- 23:13Speaker 1: Los Angeles Dodgers. How much credit is he taking? Oh
- 23:16Speaker 1: my goodness, this boy, it's so happy. I've never seen
- 23:22Speaker 1: a happy I posted on my Instagram his in real
- 23:26Speaker 1: time response when that last out was about that last straight,
- 23:29Speaker 1: I knew he was gonna lose it. I knew it
- 23:31Speaker 1: was he was about to get it, and so I
- 23:33Speaker 1: took the video and it was so good, and then
- 23:35Speaker 1: he dropped the F bomb and I was like, oh shoot,
- 23:39Speaker 1: you know he said, that's what you learned at that clubhouse.
- 23:41Speaker 1: But he was so excited. You know, Ra Shawn, many
- 23:45Speaker 1: people know that my son r J, who's twenty three now,
- 23:47Speaker 1: when he was three, he was told he would never
- 23:49Speaker 1: have any full employment and so to be hired by
- 23:53Speaker 1: the World Champion Dodgers is a really great thing. And
- 23:58Speaker 1: then remember he's had to go through the last five
- 24:01Speaker 1: six years working with them with all these get to
- 24:04Speaker 1: the championship and not win it. So that's been a
- 24:07Speaker 1: st stress and you know, hard on him. He's the
- 24:10Speaker 1: guy in the clubhouse that gets the room all set
- 24:13Speaker 1: up with the champagne. So he's had a couple a
- 24:16Speaker 1: couple of times he's had the role at Champagne back
- 24:19Speaker 1: and that was so painful for him. Um, but really,
- 24:22Speaker 1: you know, this is a group of guys that have
- 24:24Speaker 1: embraced him and for him to be able to say,
- 24:27Speaker 1: you know, he's he already has to nationally championship rings
- 24:31Speaker 1: and now he gets to get a World Series ring around.
- 24:35Speaker 1: That's what you're doing walking all these rings. You know
- 24:36Speaker 1: what I'm saying, This guy is like, I mean, I
- 24:40Speaker 1: just love it. So I'm so proud of him. I'm
- 24:42Speaker 1: grateful to the Dodgers. I'm really always advocating for corporations
- 24:47Speaker 1: and other sports teams to hire young people, hire people
- 24:51Speaker 1: with autism and special needs and intellectual differences because they
- 24:55Speaker 1: can be an amazing employee for you. So please, you know,
- 24:58Speaker 1: if you if you have a chance to hire someone,
- 25:01Speaker 1: don't um not consider someone who might be on the
- 25:06Speaker 1: spectrum or have down syndrome. They might be someplace that
- 25:11Speaker 1: will light your workplace up in a way that you
- 25:13Speaker 1: just didn't know. They could be a blessing and you know,
- 25:17Speaker 1: to your bottom line. You know, sometimes even just making
- 25:22Speaker 1: sometimes your bottom line increases when you have that kind
- 25:25Speaker 1: of diversity in your workplace. Well, you know, it's it's
- 25:28Speaker 1: it's stereotyping because of the fact that you know, people
- 25:32Speaker 1: only know what they think they know or what they hear,
- 25:35Speaker 1: and it can limit the possibility to what an individual
- 25:38Speaker 1: can accomplish, can achieve. And and that's why you know
- 25:42Speaker 1: your your foundation has been so amazing. I want to
- 25:44Speaker 1: read this word for word. The Holly Rock Foundation has
- 25:48Speaker 1: recently partnered with other foundations to create delivering jobs and
- 25:51Speaker 1: initiative with a goal to create one million jobs with
- 25:54Speaker 1: people with autisms, autism, special needs, and other intellectual differences.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Tell about that, and it's because it sounds amazing that
- 26:02Speaker 1: it sounds like another major leap forward in your relationship
- 26:06Speaker 1: that you built over the years. The foundation, the structure
- 26:08Speaker 1: that you and your husband has big. That's what Holly
- 26:11Speaker 1: Rod means Rodney Pete, Holly Holly Robinson Pete. That's why
- 26:14Speaker 1: they get the name Holly Rod Foundation. I've been uh
- 26:17Speaker 1: you know, she know I'm a big proponent. I made
- 26:19Speaker 1: my share of donations when it's right and when they
- 26:23Speaker 1: got a vaccine coming out there. So I'm assuming we
- 26:25Speaker 1: would do it live again in one you know, my
- 26:27Speaker 1: my wife and I would be out there. It's just
- 26:30Speaker 1: amazing what you're doing. So talk about this initiative right
- 26:32Speaker 1: with Yes. Delivering jobs is something I'm so proud of.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Holly Rod partnered with um Best Buddies, Autisms Speak, Special
- 26:41Speaker 1: Olympics to do this huge initiative to create a million
- 26:45Speaker 1: jobs for these young people. Now obviously, uh, COVID just
- 26:51Speaker 1: changed everybody's plans and so now you know, we're sort
- 26:55Speaker 1: of shifting our focus. Maybe it won't be a billion jobs,
- 26:58Speaker 1: who knows, maybe it'll be less than that. But the
- 27:00Speaker 1: idea is to get corporations to get off board with
- 27:03Speaker 1: hiring in this part of the community where the unemployment
- 27:07Speaker 1: rate is above hovers around. So we have to try
- 27:13Speaker 1: to just get people to consider hiring these amazing individuals.
- 27:18Speaker 1: UM Every single time I post something on social media
- 27:22Speaker 1: or treat something out about Oh thank you Dodgers for
- 27:26Speaker 1: giving r J this chance. They all of them, the
- 27:29Speaker 1: manager Dave Roberts to all the star players will all
- 27:32Speaker 1: hit me back and go, I wish you stop thinking us,
- 27:35Speaker 1: because we're the ones that need to thank you for
- 27:37Speaker 1: our j. You don't understand when we have hard times
- 27:40Speaker 1: that we come in that clubhouse. R J is always
- 27:43Speaker 1: tapping us up and chucking it out with us and
- 27:46Speaker 1: counting us out, and he's never not in a great
- 27:49Speaker 1: mood and he lifts us up and so so that
- 27:53Speaker 1: that is a testament to how these young people can
- 27:58Speaker 1: bring not just diversity, but happiness and joy to your workforce.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Uh and so and so. Yeah, so delivering jobs has
- 28:06Speaker 1: been terrific. We just started this initiative recently, and yes,
- 28:09Speaker 1: I'm hoping that the pandemic will simmer down and we'll
- 28:15Speaker 1: be able to be back up and running. Uh. We
- 28:17Speaker 1: did get hit hard with Holly rod um by COVID,
- 28:21Speaker 1: Uh really hard. We can't really function at our J's
- 28:24Speaker 1: place like we want to UM, which is our Auti
- 28:27Speaker 1: Center in l A where we help people UM get
- 28:31Speaker 1: jobs and connect them with job opportunities and training um.
- 28:35Speaker 1: But you know what we're we We have some beautiful partners.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Signa is one of them, and Walgreen some really great
- 28:43Speaker 1: partners that have stuck with us even through this lean
- 28:45Speaker 1: time that have kept us afloat um. But yes, hopefully
- 28:49Speaker 1: we'll be able to get UH Design Care back up
- 28:52Speaker 1: again next year and you and your wife, we will
- 28:54Speaker 1: come back out and we can get things going. But
- 28:57Speaker 1: we got a lot of work to do. Everybody, keep
- 28:59Speaker 1: your masks on, stay safe, and you know, remember it's
- 29:03Speaker 1: the greater good together. And I want to mention you
- 29:08Speaker 1: went to the World Diversity and I want to give
- 29:10Speaker 1: a shout out to Dave Roberts, African American, who is
- 29:14Speaker 1: the coach of me, the manager of the world champion
- 29:16Speaker 1: in Los Angeles Dodgers. You know, there are only two
- 29:18Speaker 1: African American managers in Major League Baseball. There's Dave Roberts
- 29:22Speaker 1: and Dusty Baker of the Houston Nastros. But more importantly,
- 29:25Speaker 1: I'm talking to a friend who has always shown me
- 29:28Speaker 1: a high level of professionalism, has always greeted me with respect,
- 29:32Speaker 1: has always told as an uplift me. She always says,
- 29:35Speaker 1: I always the uplifting her, but she's always up to
- 29:37Speaker 1: me and she has two fantastic movie projects coming out
- 29:40Speaker 1: on Hallmark. It's called December fifth would be Christmas and Evergreen.
- 29:45Speaker 1: And this Sunday, November ten pm on the Hallmark is
- 29:50Speaker 1: going to be Christmas Doctor. But more importantly, if you
- 29:53Speaker 1: get ready to get your laugh phone, ready to get
- 29:54Speaker 1: your laugh phone, America's Hathwaite, because she already told me,
- 29:58Speaker 1: you know, she had to come in and get wound
- 29:59Speaker 1: up at business in this fifth season. They brought on
- 30:02Speaker 1: the show just to get didn't you say you really
- 30:04Speaker 1: wanted to put a little a little flair and that's
- 30:05Speaker 1: why they brought you up for the show. They wanted
- 30:07Speaker 1: to put a little spice. Ain't the word the word
- 30:10Speaker 1: you say spice in the show? Oh? Okay? Cool? You know,
- 30:13Speaker 1: like like like Thanksgiving turkey. You know, get that big old,
- 30:16Speaker 1: that big old injecting and put that garlic in there
- 30:18Speaker 1: and put that butt in there and you get it
- 30:20Speaker 1: all right and brown and gold. And that's what you're
- 30:22Speaker 1: doing right there for America, my friend. Thank you. We're
- 30:28Speaker 1: gonna promote again. You know how I do it? Uh,
- 30:31Speaker 1: when I run this, I'm gonna drop this on YouTube.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna put that I'm gonna run the trailer doing
- 30:35Speaker 1: our interview and do a split spring on it and
- 30:37Speaker 1: put your picture up periodically. They're tim me more photos.
- 30:39Speaker 1: So we get this up this weekend and get this
- 30:41Speaker 1: promoted for the show coming out and then I'm on
- 30:44Speaker 1: my my for the show just coming out December fifth
- 30:46Speaker 1: and movies come out December five. I'm gonna run that
- 30:48Speaker 1: trailer and my fan club and what was my other
- 30:51Speaker 1: social media? So you know how I do it. When
- 30:52Speaker 1: Holly drops in on money make conversation, we do it
- 30:55Speaker 1: big here. Okay, well, thank you so much. I'm always
- 30:58Speaker 1: so happy to be here in this And you know,
- 31:00Speaker 1: if you ever get tired at that great stephen A opening,
- 31:03Speaker 1: let me know if you want me to see the
- 31:04Speaker 1: jam you mess with me because you know I got
- 31:12Speaker 1: I got my my company of my company voicemail and
- 31:16Speaker 1: so I'm so I'm gonna I'm gonna send it to
- 31:19Speaker 1: you and I'm gonna ask you to cut my voicemail
- 31:21Speaker 1: for my company. It's it's it's because I'm doing Boller
- 31:26Speaker 1: this year. If I can get Holly Robinson Pete to
- 31:28Speaker 1: do my voicemail voice over, I am balla ballicious ball delicious.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Okay you stay, start with my friend we tr to
- 31:37Speaker 1: and tell your husband how you know how about your
- 31:39Speaker 1: love him? I will, I will say to your wife,
- 31:42Speaker 1: luck you guys, bye bye. If you heed more money
- 31:45Speaker 1: Making Conversation interviews, please go to money Making Conversation dot com.
