- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, So Junior checked this out, Tommy, Shirley Monica.
- 0:03Speaker 1: It's the fiftieth anniversary of hip hop. Okay, so we've
- 0:07Speaker 1: been celebrating all year. So I guess what nineteen seventy three,
- 0:10Speaker 1: This is twenty twenty three, so yeah, you know, just hip.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Hop been around since seventy three, yeah, seventy three.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Yeah. So it's just like what Biggie said, you never
- 0:21Speaker 1: thought hip hop would take it this far coast right, west, coast,
- 0:26Speaker 1: dirty south, Midwest, all around the world.
- 0:29Speaker 2: So I'm gonna tell you my top hip hop pioneers.
- 0:33Speaker 1: So I guess we'll start off, you know, like we said, Tommy,
- 0:38Speaker 1: my first hip hop song, Sugarhill Gang.
- 0:41Speaker 2: That's the first one I heard. Rappers delight right, Rappers
- 0:43Speaker 2: delight right. That was party song that said hip hop exactly. Yeah,
- 0:51Speaker 2: jump rhythm, look at you, Okay, I got it. Yeah.
- 0:58Speaker 2: But then I bought that out exactly from sound waves
- 1:03Speaker 2: about it from sound waves raves in Houston, Texas.
- 1:07Speaker 1: So from there, though, when you heard that song, then
- 1:10Speaker 1: it got real serious. The message broken glass everywhere, you know,
- 1:15Speaker 1: it was. To me, that was a moment, Mellie mel
- 1:19Speaker 1: that was a moment that hip hop I guess it
- 1:22Speaker 1: was a telling real life social issues. It was telling
- 1:25Speaker 1: a story for the have nots and breaking down you know,
- 1:29Speaker 1: what was really going on. So you had this party
- 1:32Speaker 1: rappers of light. Then it got serious. So that's to
- 1:34Speaker 1: me how it all started, this hip hop thing. And
- 1:37Speaker 1: then we're gonna go into Run Run d C. That's
- 1:42Speaker 1: for me number two. You know, you had your B
- 1:44Speaker 1: boys stance ready, but they were a movement, and I
- 1:47Speaker 1: think for me Run DMC the importance of what they
- 1:51Speaker 1: were doing. It wasn't just about them rapping. It wasn't
- 1:54Speaker 1: just about the MC. They showed how important the DJ was,
- 2:00Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. That's when we got exposed.
- 2:02Speaker 2: To do you know, they're like one of the first
- 2:06Speaker 2: groups to cross over into doing songs with rock star
- 2:09Speaker 2: right Eryl Smith. They were doing a man.
- 2:14Speaker 1: They were a movement, and then we got to see
- 2:15Speaker 1: their videos, you know, on TV and Adidas and what
- 2:18Speaker 1: they were wearing. So Run DMC, and then we can
- 2:21Speaker 1: go back to Tupac. Women love Tupac, and Tupac did
- 2:24Speaker 1: what he wanted to do. The poetry, his message thug
- 2:28Speaker 1: life tatted on his chest, so I mean he wrapped
- 2:32Speaker 1: keep your head up was dedicated to you. Yeah, let
- 2:40Speaker 1: me get this out. My female and Pepper's here get you.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yes, and what a man? What a man?
- 2:53Speaker 1: Yeah, the female MC Salt and Pepper. Every party back
- 2:57Speaker 1: in the eighties you had have on Salt and Peppa.
- 3:02Speaker 1: They were like the first to me, the first all
- 3:04Speaker 1: female hip hop group that hit it big, you know,
- 3:07Speaker 1: in a male dominating genre type music. And then finally,
- 3:12Speaker 1: I'm just gonna close it out with jay Z Biggie
- 3:16Speaker 1: and the rapper's favorite rapper, the r rock Kim because
- 3:21Speaker 1: I think.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Did you not mention ice Cube on this whole thing?
- 3:28Speaker 2: We got to talk about all of this. Yeah, so
- 3:30Speaker 2: we can do part two. We can talk. Don't be
- 3:33Speaker 2: doing what I mentioned in ice Cube, L L Doctor Dre.
- 3:38Speaker 2: We got snoop. We come on now, snoop for me.
- 3:46Speaker 1: My list?
- 3:46Speaker 2: Tell me got a little attu about my list? Did
- 3:49Speaker 2: but on your list? That don't make no sense to me?
- 3:51Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Well I cut it off. I cut it off.
- 3:55Speaker 1: So I put J Biggie Rack Kim because I think
- 3:59Speaker 1: that the rappers look up to rack Camp. He transitioned
- 4:03Speaker 1: how they rhyme. If you ask any rapper, I bet
- 4:06Speaker 1: you he's like number one, Big Daddy Caye. We could
- 4:10Speaker 1: keep going on and on, but that's it. Fiftieth anniversary
- 4:13Speaker 1: and hip hop. You know, it gets heated every time
- 4:15Speaker 1: we talk about hip hop music. But happy anniversary to
- 4:19Speaker 1: hip hop, Thank y'all, Steve, Happy Morning Show. By the
- 4:24Speaker 1: death certificate, you know, Monica's salty right now,
