- 1:13Speaker 1: Welcome to Money Making Conversations. It's the show that she
- 1:15Speaker 1: has the secrets of success experience firsthand by Marketing and
- 1:18Speaker 1: Brandon expert Rashan McDonald. I will know he's giving me
- 1:21Speaker 1: advice on many occasions. In the case you didn't notice,
- 1:24Speaker 1: I'm not broke, you know, he'll be interview with celebrity CEOs,
- 1:27Speaker 1: entrepreneurs and industry decision makers. It's what he likes to do.
- 1:31Speaker 1: It's what he likes to share. Now it's time to
- 1:33Speaker 1: hear from my man, Rashan McDonald. Money Making Conversations. Here
- 1:37Speaker 1: we come. It's always good to have an intro this
- 1:39Speaker 1: Rushan McDonald. I'm the host of Money Making Conversation. It's
- 1:42Speaker 1: always good to have people say things nice about you,
- 1:45Speaker 1: but they have three real things. I always played there.
- 1:47Speaker 1: It's called hype. Can the hype be uh real? Can
- 1:51Speaker 1: the hype be defined as a course of action that
- 1:53Speaker 1: allows you to give advice to other people so they
- 1:55Speaker 1: can follow you. I'll be following me because I've been
- 1:58Speaker 1: doing a lot of great things in my life. I've
- 1:59Speaker 1: done something into my life there I didn't think I
- 2:01Speaker 1: was capable of doing, but I decided to guess what.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I wouldn't let anybody else tell me I couldn't do it.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And a lot of people allow that to stop them.
- 2:08Speaker 1: They allowed themselves to be halted by doubters or friends
- 2:12Speaker 1: or family members, people who say they know more than you.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Effort makes the difference in those people. How much effort
- 2:19Speaker 1: you're willing to put in. I'm what's the sacrifice you're
- 2:21Speaker 1: willing to put out to be able to separate yourself
- 2:24Speaker 1: from the people who say what you cannot do and
- 2:26Speaker 1: what you're willing to do? What am I willing to do?
- 2:29Speaker 1: I'm willing to achieve my dreams. I'm willing to uh
- 2:32Speaker 1: make the goals that I put in place happen. I'm
- 2:34Speaker 1: willing to walk away from the first goal that I
- 2:36Speaker 1: said to apply new goal because you cannot live life
- 2:40Speaker 1: on just one goal. You cannot that. I don't understand that.
- 2:45Speaker 1: You hear Tom Brady all the time you wanted super Bowl?
- 2:47Speaker 1: Guess what? He ready to win another super Bowl? Guess what.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I'm cool with that because his goals change once he's
- 2:52Speaker 1: accomplished a task. Sometimes in sports you can see that
- 2:57Speaker 1: cleanly and and champions and winners. Uh and Michael Jordan's
- 3:02Speaker 1: you know, in the Lebron james Is of the world
- 3:04Speaker 1: who may not have accomplished of mala championships that Michael
- 3:09Speaker 1: Jordan has accomplished, but his effort to keep involving, to
- 3:13Speaker 1: keep developing and keep reinventing his brand is key. And
- 3:16Speaker 1: I guess what you everyday people know you're not Lebron. No,
- 3:19Speaker 1: you're not Michael Jordan. No, you're not some brilliantly trained
- 3:22Speaker 1: actor or comedian. But you can be successful. That's what
- 3:25Speaker 1: the show money Making Conversation is all about, being recognized
- 3:28Speaker 1: as a source of information source. And my next guest
- 3:32Speaker 1: is truly an information source um for more than a
- 3:35Speaker 1: decade as an engineer at lock Keed Martin right there.
- 3:38Speaker 1: You know they're not hiring there, They're just not hiring
- 3:41Speaker 1: anybody locked Martin. Before embarking on a career field with
- 3:44Speaker 1: entertainment and tech talk, she decided to combine her background
- 3:47Speaker 1: and technology with her love and entertainment to become a
- 3:50Speaker 1: tech lifestyle expert. You have seen her own such shows
- 3:53Speaker 1: as Harry Carnick Jr. Good Morning America News One with
- 3:56Speaker 1: my man Rolling Martin. And now she's on my show
- 3:59Speaker 1: please again, because she was on my show in twenty seventeen.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Please welcome to Money Making Conversations. Stephanie Humphrey, Hello, how
- 4:09Speaker 1: are you? It's been like eighteen month. I looked, I
- 4:15Speaker 1: looked at my records. I went, I had you on
- 4:17Speaker 1: in November of twenty seventeen. Now we can't do that.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I know now. I think I distinctly say in our conversation,
- 4:24Speaker 1: I like you, you said you like me, you said
- 4:27Speaker 1: we're gonna come to my shoreline, and we got what
- 4:30Speaker 1: a year and five four months? Listen, I don't know
- 4:34Speaker 1: how it happened. We didn't happen no more. I'm just
- 4:36Speaker 1: taking I'm not taking the blame for that. Put it
- 4:39Speaker 1: on you're now you know you're texting because if you
- 4:41Speaker 1: take me, you have to contact people. You know, you
- 4:43Speaker 1: got all that, you got all blame it on you.
- 4:47Speaker 1: But but but a great thing about it is that
- 4:49Speaker 1: you're back on my show. And and it's important that
- 4:54Speaker 1: you know I was looking to this show, uh Spider Fight,
- 4:57Speaker 1: a web show, Girls and Spider web show and as
- 5:00Speaker 1: a movie last night, and it was about this girl
- 5:02Speaker 1: tattoo tattoo with him, and so it was all about tech.
- 5:05Speaker 1: You know, she she was turning on cars, she was
- 5:08Speaker 1: turning on she was controlling uh, she was controlling cameras
- 5:11Speaker 1: when she walked in a room. And so I said,
- 5:14Speaker 1: this is perfect prep for my interview with Stephanie the
- 5:17Speaker 1: day because this is high tech maxed out. I mean,
- 5:20Speaker 1: she was stealing Lamborghinis. You know, she's going She knew
- 5:24Speaker 1: how to program. So she's a hack hacker and very
- 5:27Speaker 1: talented hackers. So when I when I when I talked
- 5:29Speaker 1: to you about tech, what level of tech are you
- 5:31Speaker 1: talking about? When I bring you on my show? I
- 5:35Speaker 1: focused mainly on consumer technology, so the stuff that most
- 5:39Speaker 1: people care about. You know, there are a lot of
- 5:42Speaker 1: different areas that you could focus on. There's the whole
- 5:45Speaker 1: looking valley with startups and who got funding and what
- 5:49Speaker 1: series they and series B. There's there's you know, um,
- 5:53Speaker 1: hardcore research topics in AI and um you know, things
- 5:58Speaker 1: like that. But I like to focus on the things
- 6:01Speaker 1: that nine percent of the population actually cares about. You know,
- 6:06Speaker 1: what phone should I get? What apps should I download?
- 6:10Speaker 1: To save some money or save some time? Or be
- 6:13Speaker 1: more productive during my day. What can I do with
- 6:16Speaker 1: my social media to not get fired? Or how can
- 6:19Speaker 1: I have a conversation with my children so that they
- 6:22Speaker 1: don't get jammed up on Instagram? You know what I mean?
- 6:25Speaker 1: Just those those those real world, everyday things, because you know,
- 6:30Speaker 1: technology is everywhere we look, It's infused into all of
- 6:34Speaker 1: our daily lives. It changes constantly. So I try to
- 6:38Speaker 1: be the person that keeps up with it so that
- 6:41Speaker 1: you don't have to. Well, you do a fantastic job
- 6:43Speaker 1: of First of all, let's faith. The reason I excited
- 6:47Speaker 1: me about bringing on the show the first time was
- 6:50Speaker 1: a similar path. You know, I worked at IBM. Then
- 6:52Speaker 1: I woke up one day and I want you to
- 6:54Speaker 1: know something. I want to go tell jokes. I want
- 6:56Speaker 1: to be a comedian, wanted something else. But it was
- 6:58Speaker 1: a lot of fear tied to that same thing with you.
- 7:01Speaker 1: You've been a Lockeed engineer, Okay, you know that's that's
- 7:04Speaker 1: the career Lockkeeed, an engineered Lockkeeed. That's where you want
- 7:07Speaker 1: to be. You know, that's where you want to be.
- 7:09Speaker 1: And so how did you And just listen for my
- 7:11Speaker 1: listeners and people who are viewing us, on moneyment on Facebook? What? What? What?
- 7:15Speaker 1: What enabled you to make that decision that I was ready,
- 7:19Speaker 1: that you were ready God? Because I wasn't ready, but
- 7:22Speaker 1: God was ready. Uh So when when when he called?
- 7:26Speaker 1: I answered? And I did have a plan. So when
- 7:30Speaker 1: when I made the decision that you know what, this
- 7:32Speaker 1: is not for me, I want to go out here
- 7:34Speaker 1: and try to do this other thing, I did come
- 7:36Speaker 1: up with a plan, and it took me. It took
- 7:38Speaker 1: me about two years to actually leave. From the time
- 7:40Speaker 1: I decided to leave to actually walking out the door
- 7:43Speaker 1: for good. It took like two years because there was
- 7:46Speaker 1: a plan that I had in place where I wanted to, uh,
- 7:50Speaker 1: you know, rearrange my financial situation, save some money, you
- 7:55Speaker 1: know that whole thing, get some more of those outside
- 7:58Speaker 1: gigs under my belt, regular clients. So I knew I
- 8:01Speaker 1: would be moving into a situation where I already had
- 8:05Speaker 1: work lined up. So you know, that whole process took
- 8:08Speaker 1: two years. And but once it was done, you know,
- 8:12Speaker 1: it was like, all right, well, I've I've met all
- 8:14Speaker 1: the targets that I said, so now it's time to go.
- 8:17Speaker 1: And it still was not without a ton of fear.
- 8:20Speaker 1: You know that that day, um, that that was my
- 8:24Speaker 1: last day. You know, it was just like it was.
- 8:27Speaker 1: It was very anxiety written and and and scary. But
- 8:32Speaker 1: you know, at some point you really do have today
- 8:35Speaker 1: say it as cliche, but you really do just have
- 8:37Speaker 1: to step out on faith, you really do. I remember
- 8:40Speaker 1: when I resigned from my BM, I did a year
- 8:42Speaker 1: in advance, so because it's it's if you're gonna try
- 8:46Speaker 1: to do it right, and you gotta, like you said,
- 8:48Speaker 1: there's faith, but there's also a plant tied to the faith.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely, that's the one year and your situated was
- 8:54Speaker 1: two years, you know. So so I felt my exit
- 8:57Speaker 1: was a little bit quicker to yours because I felt that, hey,
- 8:59Speaker 1: I'm ann book up these comedy dates and I'm gonna
- 9:01Speaker 1: go out there and just start telling these jokes. And
- 9:02Speaker 1: that's what I did. I just book a series of joke.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I had a manager at the time, and then all
- 9:08Speaker 1: of a sudden when I resigned, and all a sudden,
- 9:10Speaker 1: he decided he's gonna stop managing me. So I was
- 9:12Speaker 1: so again again, you just never know, there's nothing guaranteed,
- 9:16Speaker 1: at least a lot of pretty much that was a
- 9:18Speaker 1: guaranteed check and IBM, that was a guaranteed check. And
- 9:21Speaker 1: that's why I wanted people to hear that before we
- 9:23Speaker 1: started getting into the tech. Talk about decisions, decision that
- 9:27Speaker 1: you make, and people are sitting on the they're sitting
- 9:29Speaker 1: on the fence right now. I don't like this job.
- 9:32Speaker 1: And I'm not saying I loved IBM, you know, and
- 9:34Speaker 1: I'm sure you enjoyed working in a key, but that
- 9:36Speaker 1: just wasn't you. It just wasn't me. And I and
- 9:40Speaker 1: I saw or or he showed me what else there
- 9:44Speaker 1: was out there, how I could make a bigger impact,
- 9:47Speaker 1: help more people. And it's like, once you see it,
- 9:50Speaker 1: you can't. It's like like the matrix, like once you
- 9:52Speaker 1: take the red pill, you know what I mean, you can't.
- 9:54Speaker 1: You can't go back to being you know, in the
- 9:56Speaker 1: dark and and and ignorant about things. So it's like
- 9:59Speaker 1: once i' so it, it's like, Okay, this is what
- 10:01Speaker 1: I gotta do. So let's just let's go. Let's go
- 10:03Speaker 1: and do it. Let's talk about all this technology that
- 10:06Speaker 1: you know, opening your garage door from your phone. Yeah,
- 10:12Speaker 1: the Internet of Things as they call it. Okay, okay,
- 10:17Speaker 1: what when when is too much? Too much? Because listen,
- 10:21Speaker 1: I don't have any of that stuff in my house
- 10:24Speaker 1: because it's because of the privacy issues. None of it
- 10:28Speaker 1: is secure enough for me for my comfort level. None
- 10:32Speaker 1: of it is secure enough right now to have in
- 10:35Speaker 1: my house. And it's they're all listening to everything you do.
- 10:40Speaker 1: When you think about how much information that Amazon Echo
- 10:44Speaker 1: that Alexa has about you and the fact that it's
- 10:48Speaker 1: always listening, and there's been so many issues where you
- 10:52Speaker 1: know it has sent something you said to the wrong
- 10:54Speaker 1: person because it was capturing your conversation without you knowing
- 10:59Speaker 1: and different they're just it's just I just don't think
- 11:02Speaker 1: the technology is uh stable enough uh to ensure my
- 11:07Speaker 1: privacy and my security in my home. So you should
- 11:10Speaker 1: know once you have like an Alexa room, you know,
- 11:13Speaker 1: you just just ruin what Alexa's in. You know there's
- 11:15Speaker 1: Alexa right and and listening to airy thing. Now, if
- 11:20Speaker 1: you just wanted to do something, if you just wanted
- 11:22Speaker 1: to do something like you know, by smart lightbulbs and
- 11:26Speaker 1: and and connect them to your apps so you can
- 11:28Speaker 1: turn your lights on and off with like something like
- 11:31Speaker 1: that is not super um risky, but you do want
- 11:35Speaker 1: to have um like the router that's in your house,
- 11:39Speaker 1: that the that whoever you have your Internet through. You know,
- 11:42Speaker 1: they brought that that little box into your house that
- 11:44Speaker 1: you connect your WiFi. UM, you want to make sure
- 11:48Speaker 1: that that password is really really strong because that's how
- 11:52Speaker 1: hackers get into all of those connected devices. Like when
- 11:55Speaker 1: you hear, especially when you hear about UM connected toys
- 11:58Speaker 1: especially and those baby monitors and babies room where people
- 12:02Speaker 1: have hacked those baby monitors and they're like watching your
- 12:05Speaker 1: kids or listening in on your kids and stuff like that.
- 12:09Speaker 1: That's because the security of those devices is so um low.
- 12:14Speaker 1: That and then and then the security on your router
- 12:17Speaker 1: that that has your WiFi, your password on your router
- 12:20Speaker 1: isn't good, isn't strong, so they it makes it really
- 12:23Speaker 1: easy for them to get in. So you know, when
- 12:25Speaker 1: you when you have something like I said, as a
- 12:27Speaker 1: connected light bulb, maybe a nest thermostat, you know people
- 12:30Speaker 1: like those thermostats now that you can control, just make
- 12:33Speaker 1: sure that the password on the router that gives your
- 12:36Speaker 1: house it's Wi Fi is really really strong. Uh. I
- 12:41Speaker 1: know we run into closing out the show on time here,
- 12:44Speaker 1: but I want to share this story. Uh Stephanie UM,
- 12:47Speaker 1: when I got my arm my camera set on my house.
- 12:50Speaker 1: They had to go through. The tech guy came by
- 12:52Speaker 1: and they had to they had to find my house,
- 12:55Speaker 1: you know, through their system. And he went about, he
- 12:57Speaker 1: went through by ten homes. That's at you. That's not me, dude.
- 13:01Speaker 1: And I went I saw it like my tent home.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I saw a couple of pocket parking lots, a couple
- 13:06Speaker 1: of side some stories. So know that when you allow
- 13:09Speaker 1: people to turn on these cameras, they could come to
- 13:12Speaker 1: your house and just peeping tom if they want. And
- 13:16Speaker 1: it's it's it's a convenience. We love it, but it's
- 13:19Speaker 1: but it's it's a risk to It's a risk too,
- 13:21Speaker 1: and and some people should understand that. So my all,
- 13:24Speaker 1: my all, my cameras face outside. There's no I don't
- 13:27Speaker 1: have a camera side of my house. You're not gonna
- 13:29Speaker 1: see me doing nothing crazy one day, you know, coming
- 13:33Speaker 1: to the door. Other than that, that's you can't see
- 13:36Speaker 1: what's happening inside the house outside. That got you unlocked.
- 13:39Speaker 1: That okay, that's def I think we run it out
- 13:43Speaker 1: of time here again. I want to bring you back
- 13:45Speaker 1: on the show just a year next year. This is
- 13:49Speaker 1: a crazy this is I'm just talking to you and
- 13:52Speaker 1: we've went through this like twenty minutes of talk time here.
- 13:54Speaker 1: This is amazing. So we know that our relationship is
- 13:58Speaker 1: eighteen Can I bring you on like every quarter every
- 14:00Speaker 1: couple of six absolutely, absolutely, whatever you need. Okay, good,
- 14:05Speaker 1: we have this relationship. Lock this down. Just has to
- 14:07Speaker 1: be back second quarter. Stephanie hud Free tech Talk Queen,

- 16:02Speaker 1: His in depth emotional intelligence theories helped launch his career

- 16:12Speaker 1: his positive influence on American culture. He is held as
- 16:16Speaker 1: the Reality check Doctor. He is known for his provocative
- 16:19Speaker 1: teaching styles on complex relationship subjects, and has been featured
- 16:23Speaker 1: as an expert on Oxygen's Snap Killer Couples, which I
- 16:27Speaker 1: like all the time. I watched that I should watch Snap,
- 16:30Speaker 1: and then they had to Snap Killer Couples. That's two
- 16:32Speaker 1: different shows. Now, Snap had me for two years and
- 16:35Speaker 1: TV wants Fatal Attraction. Gotta watch Fatal Attraction. I'm just
- 16:38Speaker 1: a sucker for those type of shows. But guess what,
- 16:40Speaker 1: he's one of the experts to come on there, because

- 17:05Speaker 1: was listening to that introduction. But the truth be told
- 17:09Speaker 1: the the other person that inspires me. Um, you know,
- 17:13Speaker 1: I remember you probably don't remember for it. At University
- 17:16Speaker 1: of Houston years ago, I remember, I think you were
- 17:19Speaker 1: working an off short job of doing something like head
- 17:22Speaker 1: But you know, I I remember, you know, and and
- 17:26Speaker 1: Robbie and Mac and you you are already a cute
- 17:29Speaker 1: and you know, and I was just thinking back. You know,
- 17:34Speaker 1: if you make up your mind to make it, you've
- 17:37Speaker 1: got two charges. You can not want nothing and be
- 17:40Speaker 1: mad at the world for not opening the door, or
- 17:43Speaker 1: you can make up your mind. And when I watch,
- 17:46Speaker 1: people don't realize what it took to be you, but
- 17:49Speaker 1: I know what it took. And I watched what you did.
- 17:52Speaker 1: And one of the biggest couple of the biggest things
- 17:54Speaker 1: you taught me, uh up close and from afar is okay,
- 18:00Speaker 1: let's talk sound good. That it talks sounds good? Now
- 18:02Speaker 1: what kind of happen? You're gonna put it with it?
- 18:04Speaker 1: You know, And you gotta get you behind up in
- 18:06Speaker 1: the morning and walk something, you know, because ain't nobody
- 18:09Speaker 1: don't give you nothing. And that's true. And you know,
- 18:12Speaker 1: the thing about it is that first of all, you're talented,
- 18:14Speaker 1: and first of all you've been consistent, and first of all,
- 18:17Speaker 1: you know you under you understand the value of a
- 18:20Speaker 1: relationship because you know that's what makes you successful long
- 18:23Speaker 1: term and a lot of people don't understand that a
- 18:25Speaker 1: relationship that you know, the old people tell you that
- 18:28Speaker 1: don't don't mess up up, don't mess up there. You
- 18:30Speaker 1: might have to come back and say hello, You might
- 18:33Speaker 1: have to say hi, You might have to drive down
- 18:35Speaker 1: that street again, might have walked through that front do again.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Don't get kicked out the back because they won't let
- 18:40Speaker 1: you in the front. No, mo, that's what that's what
- 18:43Speaker 1: we're having the winning careers and you have a winning career.
- 18:46Speaker 1: That when I when I talk about motivation that what
- 18:48Speaker 1: did the reality check doctor come from? Doctor? Uh? Being honest?
- 18:54Speaker 1: That I was having dinner with the producer from CNN
- 18:58Speaker 1: in Atlanta and they were, you know, we were we've
- 19:01Speaker 1: been talking to several networks over the last several months
- 19:05Speaker 1: about where I put what where can I go? That's
- 19:09Speaker 1: a good fit. And the lady said to me, she said, well,
- 19:12Speaker 1: you know, we love what you do, but we don't
- 19:15Speaker 1: know what to call it. I mean, what do we
- 19:17Speaker 1: call it? And we set there for a minute and
- 19:19Speaker 1: she said, you know, I've looked at videos a reader
- 19:23Speaker 1: content she says this, that's like you just give people
- 19:25Speaker 1: a reality checking right when she said it. The alarm
- 19:29Speaker 1: went off, and I mean, this is I'm gonna tell
- 19:31Speaker 1: you all. Don't do what I did. But my country
- 19:34Speaker 1: behind Rashawn was tempting Daylen mack up under the table.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I need you to file a trademark registration on the
- 19:42Speaker 1: Reality Check Doctor, and it's been uh something that would
- 19:46Speaker 1: Now we do have a trademark on it, and uh
- 19:49Speaker 1: you know like that lady said people need to get
- 19:52Speaker 1: you in one sentence and I think that's not a sentence,
- 19:55Speaker 1: but it's a phrase and it works. I love it.
- 19:58Speaker 1: But guess what, that's reality of how this business worked.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Because you put it out in the in the usually
- 20:03Speaker 1: it's just a space. Now to put it on the internet. Now,
- 20:06Speaker 1: to put it on social media and it's not trademark
- 20:09Speaker 1: or copyrighted. Somebody gonna do it now. You know, you
- 20:12Speaker 1: put a little phrase, it sounds good, you better go
- 20:14Speaker 1: online and turn that into a domain and on it.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I remember that it was so funny when Steve Harvey,
- 20:20Speaker 1: I was producing, I was using this show. He shouted out,
- 20:24Speaker 1: I got my fan club named Steve Harvey Nation. He
- 20:28Speaker 1: just said Steve Harvey Nation, and I said, Steve Stock,
- 20:32Speaker 1: Steve Harvey nation. That's nameed my fan club before I
- 20:36Speaker 1: was eight, within fifteen minutes of him saying that somebody
- 20:40Speaker 1: bought the domain, and then I said, we want to
- 20:43Speaker 1: We want a hundred thousand dollars if we wanted to buy. Yeah,
- 20:49Speaker 1: so we had the name s H Nation. We had
- 20:52Speaker 1: to call it s H Nation because somebody bought Steve
- 20:54Speaker 1: Harvy Nation. So so don't say country when you talk
- 20:58Speaker 1: about us under the table typing texting. Jay Len was
- 21:01Speaker 1: a renowned trademark lawyer, and uh, that only does all
- 21:04Speaker 1: my trademarks. She's outstanding. She wrote a book on trademarks,
- 21:08Speaker 1: and so she's a person that you should go to
- 21:10Speaker 1: if you're doing it. You know, you gotta tell people
- 21:12Speaker 1: these relationships because every trademark I ever did with Steve Harvey,
- 21:15Speaker 1: I did it through Jay learning Mac And so when
- 21:17Speaker 1: he was talking about under the table texting and now
- 21:19Speaker 1: he says, hey, our own reality check doctor, that's how
- 21:23Speaker 1: you have to do it. I'm just letting you know,
- 21:24Speaker 1: don't let it. Don't don't don't act like that's a joke,
- 21:26Speaker 1: and that don't don't say it's a country or it's
- 21:29Speaker 1: a business, and people will take away your dreams if
- 21:32Speaker 1: you don't control them and put them in place on
- 21:34Speaker 1: the right, on the right style. Now, when they said
- 21:36Speaker 1: provocative teaching style, what does that mean, Dr Young? Well,
- 21:42Speaker 1: being honest, man, I think that there's a lot of
- 21:47Speaker 1: there's a lot of bs out there. And when I
- 21:50Speaker 1: say bs, I mean with the bull left in the barnyard.
- 21:54Speaker 1: And these people come out with all of these uh
- 21:59Speaker 1: catch phrases, name it and claim it the law of
- 22:02Speaker 1: attraction if you just visualize it, well, you visualize all
- 22:06Speaker 1: you don't day longs, you don't get off your button,
- 22:09Speaker 1: you know. And and then many of us we are
- 22:13Speaker 1: so good at lying to not other people, even sometimes
- 22:17Speaker 1: we allow to ourselves to them. Much so if you
- 22:20Speaker 1: continue not being said the reality of of what it
- 22:27Speaker 1: takes to make it, you know, like this show money
- 22:29Speaker 1: making Conversations, That's just what this is. It's a money
- 22:32Speaker 1: making conversation. And when I talk to people, and well,
- 22:36Speaker 1: I don't care if it's a Ted talker, if my
- 22:38Speaker 1: best Ted talks of me just sitting up talking to
- 22:41Speaker 1: her brother or sister one on one at an airport,
- 22:44Speaker 1: in a gym or whatever. But the one thing that
- 22:47Speaker 1: I wise people need is the truth. And when somebody
- 22:51Speaker 1: tells you. I remember you said this is Steve said
- 22:55Speaker 1: this in an interview one day, both of you that
- 22:58Speaker 1: you know, if you tell somebody you're an actor and
- 23:00Speaker 1: they said, well, where are you performing and you say nowhere,
- 23:04Speaker 1: You're got no dog actor, you're lying. I mean, okay
- 23:14Speaker 1: with Steve stated, but I know for a fact, man,
- 23:17Speaker 1: that is if you don't have someone telling you you
- 23:22Speaker 1: know what, man, you can't sing, you might be able
- 23:25Speaker 1: to write some lyrics. Damn saying no singer. You may
- 23:28Speaker 1: be great at writing a screw, but you're not no actor.
- 23:32Speaker 1: And that's what I try to do in my practice
- 23:34Speaker 1: and in my speaking is to get people to pull
- 23:37Speaker 1: their heads out there butts and realize that if you're
- 23:40Speaker 1: gonna make it out here, and especially in America or
- 23:43Speaker 1: in the UK, or you know, anywhere on North American condent,
- 23:47Speaker 1: you better bring it. And by being honest, transparent and authentic.
- 23:53Speaker 1: But more than anything else, I practice what I preach.
- 23:56Speaker 1: That's what I mean by giving someone an unfettered conversation.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I'm Jason. You're listening to the Reality check doctor. That's
- 24:04Speaker 1: Dr d Ivan Young. Are the Houston Texas um one
- 24:08Speaker 1: of the true uh When I listen to listen to it,
- 24:11Speaker 1: I always feel like I listening to Dr Field. Here's
- 24:13Speaker 1: that Dr Field type tone. And I know that a
- 24:17Speaker 1: talk show has to be any work. Come on, now,
- 24:19Speaker 1: I saw you standing next to uh buying Allen in
- 24:22Speaker 1: the photo on social media? It can you can you
- 24:26Speaker 1: reveal anything to his doctor? Well, I can just say this,
- 24:30Speaker 1: I'm very fortunate to have a guy named David Pozi
- 24:33Speaker 1: who is taking an interest in me. Uh. And and
- 24:36Speaker 1: I think it was Byron Pits. I want to meet
- 24:38Speaker 1: Byron Allen. So you're being prophetic because Jayleen and I
- 24:41Speaker 1: were talking about Byron Allen yesterday, but you know it
- 24:45Speaker 1: was Byron Pits I think from ABC's Nightline p anchor.
- 24:51Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, we're talking to
- 24:52Speaker 1: those guys. Uh. My publicist is talking to some people
- 24:57Speaker 1: out in Hollywood. At the end of the day. Our
- 25:01Speaker 1: number one goal is I need I would. I need
- 25:04Speaker 1: to be somewhere where they're not gonna totally tell me
- 25:06Speaker 1: what to do, and they're they're not gonna do a
- 25:09Speaker 1: bamboozled thing with my content. Where one thing I've learned
- 25:13Speaker 1: from you is remained true to your brand. So I'm
- 25:17Speaker 1: not gonna do. I'm not gonna mention this person's name,
- 25:20Speaker 1: but I'm not gonna do something. What's wrong And you're
- 25:23Speaker 1: crying and I made you trying. Now you're gonna be
- 25:26Speaker 1: better type show. Anything that we're gonna do, it's gonna
- 25:29Speaker 1: be transformational, it's gonna be real, and it's gonna be
- 25:33Speaker 1: relatable to the American public. If we can't do it
- 25:37Speaker 1: that way and maintain the integrity, I'll just wait because
- 25:40Speaker 1: God's gonna open the right door. I don't want to
- 25:42Speaker 1: go through the wrong one. Thank you, doctor, I appreciate you.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Definitely gonna have you back on the show The Reality
- 25:47Speaker 1: Check Doctor. Dr d Avignyan on money making Conversation. We'll
- 25:51Speaker 1: be right back. We'll be right back with more from

- 29:22Speaker 1: gap towards women of color and not too many big
- 29:25Speaker 1: name retail stories care products that cater to women of color.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Just spirit true. I have six so I'm kind of
- 29:31Speaker 1: like an authority on women of color when you have
- 29:33Speaker 1: six sisters. Okay, five of them, four of them older
- 29:35Speaker 1: than me. So I've been seeing a lot of women
- 29:37Speaker 1: of color in my life. The Brown Beauty co Op
- 29:41Speaker 1: is the brown child of Kimberly and a Maya. Kimberly
- 29:43Speaker 1: Hells from Philly, but called DC har home. Please welcome
- 29:47Speaker 1: to money making conversations. Kimberly and a Maya Smith, thank you,
- 29:51Speaker 1: thank you for having our hang. You know, I had
- 29:53Speaker 1: to get that out, you know, so both so we're talking.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I'm talking to a couple of East Coast ladies. Yes
- 29:59Speaker 1: you are, that's okay. Let me get to look at
- 30:03Speaker 1: the voices. So Maya, can you can you say something?
- 30:06Speaker 1: I'm a Maya, good morning, good to be on okay, Kimberly, Hi,
- 30:12Speaker 1: this is Kimberly, good morning. A little bit more energy
- 30:15Speaker 1: right there. Kimberly was way up there. You know she's
- 30:17Speaker 1: on coffee. She's on coffee, alright, Maya. You know she's
- 30:21Speaker 1: down there doing her thing. You know, how did you
- 30:24Speaker 1: guys meet? First of all, let's get to the relationship,
- 30:26Speaker 1: because it's a relationship that started with a friendship. There
- 30:29Speaker 1: now as a business relationship, and it's always interested. I
- 30:32Speaker 1: remember when I had my comedy club, I had family,
- 30:34Speaker 1: and when you're working with friends and families, always a
- 30:36Speaker 1: dynamic that can be great or as a dynamic be
- 30:40Speaker 1: a struggle. In this situation has been very successful. How
- 30:43Speaker 1: did you two meet? Sure? Well, it was about seven
- 30:46Speaker 1: years ago. We met at a sorority meeting. We are
- 30:50Speaker 1: both a K and yeah, yeah, so that at a
- 30:58Speaker 1: graduate chapter meeting and at the time we were just
- 31:02Speaker 1: you know, we were looking for a girlfriend that was
- 31:05Speaker 1: interested in um, maybe happy hour or something, and it
- 31:09Speaker 1: turns from a social just like let's need to a
- 31:13Speaker 1: friendship to travel partners, and that blossoms and to best
- 31:17Speaker 1: friends and then that turned into this now this new
- 31:20Speaker 1: business partnership. Now, okay, first of all, I love the
- 31:25Speaker 1: fact for something memorial, make sci fi. That's why I
- 31:28Speaker 1: just dove right on it with just key week, you know,
- 31:30Speaker 1: thinking I had to go and let you guys know,
- 31:33Speaker 1: I know, I know the lingo yea, And so it's
- 31:37Speaker 1: it's great because like I said that that sorority or
- 31:39Speaker 1: fraternal relationship can create that initial bond. You have a
- 31:43Speaker 1: similar call, a similar passion. You're about to community. You're
- 31:47Speaker 1: about uh a certain everybody, every certain type of people.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Pledge organizations usually leads to a professional lifestyle to have
- 31:55Speaker 1: a level of academic accomplimation in college. Because everybody just
- 31:59Speaker 1: can't pledge. We need to get that cleared up to everybody.
- 32:01Speaker 1: You just can't walk up to I want to be
- 32:02Speaker 1: a member of a K eight, you can't do that.
- 32:05Speaker 1: And so so so, like I said, it initially started
- 32:08Speaker 1: out to be in a social opportunity. What did what
- 32:12Speaker 1: did the business aspect take off? Was it just to
- 32:15Speaker 1: like minded, like minded individuals coming together I think Kimberly
- 32:21Speaker 1: actually brought up the partnership initially, but we both kind
- 32:26Speaker 1: of had similar ideas and started talking about our ideas together.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Kim started a business online catering towards women of color
- 32:35Speaker 1: featuring beauty products, and I had always wanted to start
- 32:39Speaker 1: a natural hair product store where women could go in
- 32:42Speaker 1: person and get products in store and get information and
- 32:46Speaker 1: get community and learn about their hair. Together and then
- 32:50Speaker 1: sort of chatting about our separate businesses, we realized, oh,
- 32:54Speaker 1: this might actually make more sense together um. And I
- 32:58Speaker 1: think Kim has talked about this before and other interviews.
- 33:01Speaker 1: A lot of entrepreneurs think, oh, I'll just go it alone.
- 33:05Speaker 1: I've got this great idea, I'll do it by myself.
- 33:08Speaker 1: I'll figure it out, and they don't realize that they
- 33:11Speaker 1: might have a resource in partnering with somebody else who
- 33:14Speaker 1: has a similar idea, who's like minded, who can also
- 33:18Speaker 1: share the burden and also share the financing um and
- 33:22Speaker 1: also share the idea and creation of the business and
- 33:25Speaker 1: so UM. I think Kim sort of generated the conversation,
- 33:29Speaker 1: but when she mentioned it, I was like, Okay, that
- 33:31Speaker 1: would make sense. And frankly, we're two businesses and one,
- 33:34Speaker 1: so we also split the rent. So about when people
- 33:40Speaker 1: is important. You know, retail is very expensive to get
- 33:44Speaker 1: into a storefront, and so thinking about whether or not
- 33:47Speaker 1: you can partner with somebody will help. UM will help
- 33:51Speaker 1: with finances as well, and so uh, we just combined
- 33:55Speaker 1: ideas and you know, lo and behold. We started in
- 33:59Speaker 1: March of last year thinking about it, and by December
- 34:02Speaker 1: we opened our own business. I'm gonna tell you something.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Let me just give a little history on me and
- 34:07Speaker 1: haircare women haircare because I started a hair caroline I
- 34:11Speaker 1: thought I could. It was called Perfect Hair and and
- 34:14Speaker 1: so I jumped out there with with the hairpieces Brazilian
- 34:18Speaker 1: and uh, I thought that, hey, I'm popular, I got
- 34:22Speaker 1: a popular brand. I should be able to sell. And
- 34:26Speaker 1: we did sell, but it just didn't. It just didn't involved.
- 34:29Speaker 1: And I want to say that because I felt that
- 34:31Speaker 1: because we didn't have the relationship. And that's why I
- 34:34Speaker 1: wanted to bring UM YouTube on the on the phone
- 34:37Speaker 1: and talk about that relationship. Because I thought I had
- 34:40Speaker 1: to model for success. I had the top hand to
- 34:42Speaker 1: be able to talk about it. I had the finances
- 34:45Speaker 1: to be able to fund it, and I brought in
- 34:48Speaker 1: the top manager to manage it, but it was something
- 34:50Speaker 1: missing in there. And then you said every Shan she
- 34:53Speaker 1: had the background and it was all right to split.
- 34:56Speaker 1: But also you guys had a common thought because this
- 34:59Speaker 1: also was a path ship project. Correct. Yeah, yeah, and
- 35:02Speaker 1: I were mentioned everything that you had. I'm like that
- 35:05Speaker 1: we didn't have any of those things for the most part.
- 35:08Speaker 1: But but what we did have and what we do
- 35:12Speaker 1: have that you were hit the nail on the head,
- 35:14Speaker 1: is that passion. Um, we're approaching us, you know one
- 35:17Speaker 1: as business on us, but we're also approaching it as consumers.
- 35:20Speaker 1: What is it that we want to see? And what
- 35:23Speaker 1: did we what we're not seeing in the market that
- 35:25Speaker 1: we knew ourselves, women that we know, women that we
- 35:29Speaker 1: come across, what is it that they were wanting? And
- 35:32Speaker 1: as we were creating what this store was going to be,
- 35:35Speaker 1: we realized that we needed it to be more than
- 35:37Speaker 1: just a retail space. It really needed to be a
- 35:40Speaker 1: community space, a space where we are supporting other businesses.
- 35:45Speaker 1: But we really brought our passion and consumers. We brought
- 35:49Speaker 1: that to the forefront. Yeah. Because it was just money
- 35:51Speaker 1: to me, you know, it was about seeing the opportunity
- 35:53Speaker 1: to make money and I were just telling you not
- 35:55Speaker 1: really understanding the brand, not really understanding the little things
- 36:00Speaker 1: so that motivate women, to motivate put that your buyers
- 36:04Speaker 1: to extend beyond. Just because it was the online you know,
- 36:08Speaker 1: So we were online so we didn't have to we
- 36:10Speaker 1: didn't open the store and anything. So I got a
- 36:12Speaker 1: got a great website built out that we were ready.
- 36:15Speaker 1: So I just wanted to point that out the individuals
- 36:17Speaker 1: who listened to the shows that you can have all
- 36:19Speaker 1: those tools, all those elements in place, but if you
- 36:22Speaker 1: don't do the homework and you don't have the passion,
- 36:25Speaker 1: it can equally fold up just as quickly as it
- 36:27Speaker 1: was launched. True. Yeah, I think that's really right. And
- 36:32Speaker 1: I would say, you know, every day that I'm in
- 36:35Speaker 1: the store, I love being in the store, Like I'm
- 36:39Speaker 1: almost like as bad as a consumer in my own store. Myself.
- 36:44Speaker 1: I try to prevent prevent myself from shopping in my
- 36:47Speaker 1: own store because I just I just have fun in there.
- 36:51Speaker 1: UM And I think we created an experience that we
- 36:54Speaker 1: always wanted to have. UM And we both really love beauty,
- 36:58Speaker 1: and so it's not a hard dream and it's not
- 37:00Speaker 1: a hard hard thing for us to do because it's
- 37:04Speaker 1: something that we really both enjoy and that makes it
- 37:08Speaker 1: that makes it that much easier. So basically built this
- 37:10Speaker 1: on what you want, you know, this is what I
- 37:12Speaker 1: want to experience when I walk in the store, and
- 37:14Speaker 1: that's missing correct. Oh yes, yes, yes, I mean it's
- 37:17Speaker 1: almost sounds kind of selfish, but yes, like what we
- 37:20Speaker 1: want to see, you know, and like this earlier when
- 37:24Speaker 1: she comes and she's so excited, I'm the same way too.
- 37:27Speaker 1: So when I'm looking around, I'm just I want to
- 37:29Speaker 1: shop there, Like I use everything that's in that store.
- 37:32Speaker 1: We personally use it as well. So this isn't and
- 37:36Speaker 1: that's another difference. This is not a store where it
- 37:38Speaker 1: is where there's a disconnect, where we're selling products that
- 37:40Speaker 1: we don't need ourselves, Like we use these products, and
- 37:43Speaker 1: when you come in and ask questions, we're giving you
- 37:46Speaker 1: a response based on our personal experience and our personal
- 37:49Speaker 1: love for the products and the brand and the people
- 37:52Speaker 1: behind the brand. We are very intentional on the brands
- 37:55Speaker 1: that we choose because we we we connect to the
- 37:59Speaker 1: brand stories and we connect to the Brown founders, so
- 38:02Speaker 1: that is important to us as well. This is really
- 38:04Speaker 1: a three sixty approach to the business. It's about the consumer.
- 38:08Speaker 1: It's about us as the business owners, but it's awful
- 38:10Speaker 1: about the brand owners that we are featuring as well.
- 38:13Speaker 1: So that's really keeping those dollars, you know, circulating and
- 38:18Speaker 1: recycling in the black community because we're doing it. Coach
- 38:22Speaker 1: to it. Let me issue this. So when you're doing
- 38:23Speaker 1: these demos, do you ever do Facebook live or periscope
- 38:26Speaker 1: when you're doing these demos in your stores? Yeah? So
- 38:30Speaker 1: we did. Yeah, yeah, we did do an I ke
- 38:33Speaker 1: live and we're going to continue to do more of
- 38:35Speaker 1: that because that's hot. That's you know, because first of all,
- 38:40Speaker 1: I wanted experience. Here's my whole thing is that you know,
- 38:44Speaker 1: I'm a talent. I do camera. I still going television,
- 38:47Speaker 1: so I'm always looking for makeup, you know, skin tones
- 38:50Speaker 1: and things like that. So if I come into your store,
- 38:53Speaker 1: I can go look look at my face? What what
- 38:55Speaker 1: kind of code? Dog spot to make my bags to disappear?
- 38:59Speaker 1: So I can walk into But if you can make
- 39:02Speaker 1: I'm going, I'm there tomorrow. And so get that question
- 39:07Speaker 1: every day, Okay when you get it from Rushan and
- 39:10Speaker 1: McDonald because because either things. So when I walk in
- 39:14Speaker 1: the store, I said high this Rashaan, Look, I'm doing television.
- 39:18Speaker 1: How can you really make my skin blend? I got
- 39:21Speaker 1: the ball head? How can I do this myself and
- 39:23Speaker 1: I hire a professional? What would happen next? So? Yeah,
- 39:31Speaker 1: if you're looking for UM a cosmetic product to cover
- 39:34Speaker 1: something up, or if you're looking for a skin to
- 39:36Speaker 1: your regiment, we're going to walk you through that. I'm
- 39:38Speaker 1: gonna ask you questions about your skin type, what type
- 39:41Speaker 1: prices are you currently using UM? So we can really
- 39:46Speaker 1: tell our recommendations to something that we feel is going
- 39:49Speaker 1: to work. So everything is tailored to you. Although you
- 39:53Speaker 1: know we want to make that sale, I don't want to.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I don't want someone walking out and then coming back
- 39:58Speaker 1: to me it. Look, did you listen? We know how
- 40:09Speaker 1: we Okay, guy talking bad about us in the streets. Okay,
- 40:15Speaker 1: So you want to make sure that we are having
- 40:18Speaker 1: a real genuine conversation and you want to sell, but
- 40:22Speaker 1: we don't want to sell you something that we don't
- 40:24Speaker 1: believe is going to work for you. Well, I love
- 40:27Speaker 1: talking to both of you. Please tell me where you're

- 43:19Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations Charles Gregory. How you doing. I'm doing fantastic.
- 43:24Speaker 1: I'm good, glad to be here. Thanks for having me. Well,
- 43:26Speaker 1: first of all, let's let's consider ourselves friends. Because I
- 43:30Speaker 1: developed this show, um kind of you know, I stopped
- 43:33Speaker 1: managing Steve Harvey, trying to find my voice and I
- 43:36Speaker 1: almost two years ago I launched the show and it
- 43:38Speaker 1: was just celebrity driven, all my friends and the injury.
- 43:41Speaker 1: And then one day I told my staff, ago, what
- 43:44Speaker 1: is this show? Why am I doing this show? And
- 43:46Speaker 1: now that's the show about giving the voice to entrepreneurs
- 43:49Speaker 1: that they can count on, they can trust that when
- 43:51Speaker 1: they come on my show. And now that it's a
- 43:53Speaker 1: show about your brand and also giving advice to people
- 43:56Speaker 1: who are trying to travel the path that you've you
- 43:59Speaker 1: you've built. That's very that's very good because people need
- 44:02Speaker 1: that you know, we need mentors, and UM, you know
- 44:06Speaker 1: I'm into mentorship because I I I'm educated as well. UM.
- 44:11Speaker 1: I was educated for Soft Sheen Carson for like ten years.
- 44:14Speaker 1: I was an artistic director with them as well. So
- 44:17Speaker 1: I worked in research and development with MAZONI Soft help
- 44:21Speaker 1: helped develop that product. So and I went around the
- 44:24Speaker 1: country teaching stylists. So I did that early in the
- 44:27Speaker 1: early part of my career and teaching them different haircutting techniques,
- 44:31Speaker 1: UH and how to use the product properly. For Soft
- 44:35Speaker 1: Sheen AMAZONI and UH I helped to create a lot
- 44:38Speaker 1: of the ad ads that you saw for MAZONI way
- 44:42Speaker 1: Bo Care Free Curl. So I you know, I was
- 44:44Speaker 1: instrumental in uh you know health health and yeah, exactly
- 44:49Speaker 1: helping to UH to bring bring that into the forefront
- 44:53Speaker 1: of the African American UH heritage for for for our
- 44:58Speaker 1: culture as far as but the hair in thirty or
- 45:00Speaker 1: five years, that means you went through a lot of
- 45:02Speaker 1: different you know, the Afro, the bridge, the soft Sheen
- 45:08Speaker 1: look exact that dominated. So what's what style now? The
- 45:12Speaker 1: natural style that's the dominant tone. Even though you know
- 45:16Speaker 1: people still out there getting perms and getting their hair straight.
- 45:19Speaker 1: What what? What? What's happening now there in the world
- 45:21Speaker 1: of hair in the world here. Now you know, it's
- 45:24Speaker 1: the natural look, but you know, wigs are the thing now.
- 45:28Speaker 1: It's like, uh, what's that rapper that I just got
- 45:32Speaker 1: out of jail? Meek meek milk. You know, he's kind
- 45:35Speaker 1: of complained about the wigs because the women are wearing
- 45:37Speaker 1: all these lace weeks. These guys don't know that they
- 45:40Speaker 1: have wings on because they look so real, you know.
- 45:42Speaker 1: So you know when they get him in the in
- 45:44Speaker 1: the room, in the bedroom, and they start wanting their
- 45:46Speaker 1: hands in their hair, and then they start feeling this
- 45:49Speaker 1: glue and all this stuff, and you know, they think,
- 45:51Speaker 1: oh my god, what is this. So you know, it's
- 45:53Speaker 1: like it's a lot of when wearing wigs because they're
- 45:55Speaker 1: very convenient and they look good. They can make them sexy.
- 45:58Speaker 1: What what made them? What made a transition? Because my
- 46:01Speaker 1: mom wore with how it happened? Happened it? Um, you know,
- 46:06Speaker 1: women have been wearing lace wigs since the thirties, and
- 46:10Speaker 1: I've been actually doing lace weeks in the movie industry
- 46:13Speaker 1: since the nineties early nineties, and it kind of caught
- 46:16Speaker 1: on after I think tywer banks and be honestly kind
- 46:20Speaker 1: of let the cat out of the bag because their
- 46:23Speaker 1: their hairstyles put laces wiggs on them and they looked incredible,
- 46:27Speaker 1: and women want to know, oh my god, a woman
- 46:29Speaker 1: hair to look like that because it was blowing in
- 46:31Speaker 1: the wind, you could see scalp and it looked like
- 46:33Speaker 1: it was going out of this scalp. So they wanted
- 46:37Speaker 1: that and so it created such a demand. So that's
- 46:40Speaker 1: what people want now. And because when you put a
- 46:42Speaker 1: lace wig on and you glue it on properly, it
- 46:45Speaker 1: looks like it's going out of your scalp. Okay a male,
- 46:48Speaker 1: so helping when you say the word glue it on,
- 46:51Speaker 1: well you have to what they do. It comes with
- 46:54Speaker 1: a very fine lace that you can see through, and
- 46:57Speaker 1: they take one hair at a time and they when
- 47:00Speaker 1: they do what you call ventilate. If we ventilate the
- 47:02Speaker 1: hair through that lace so that it matches your skin tone,
- 47:06Speaker 1: they died and they died to look at your skin toe.
- 47:08Speaker 1: So when you when we glue it, it's a clear
- 47:10Speaker 1: glue and it dries and it clear. It's clear and
- 47:13Speaker 1: it and it's like it looks like your skin. So
- 47:16Speaker 1: when we when we glue it to your like forehead,
- 47:18Speaker 1: it looks like it's hair growing out of your skin,
- 47:20Speaker 1: so it's it just mimics your skin and hair, so
- 47:24Speaker 1: it looks like like like you might have gotten hair.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Well you don't have. If you got and don't have edges,
- 47:29Speaker 1: you can you can just have edges. Now, my next
- 47:31Speaker 1: courtion will be can you wear that? Usually it was
- 47:37Speaker 1: designed to wear it like put it on, take it
- 47:39Speaker 1: off in the movie industry, but with the commercial success
- 47:43Speaker 1: of these wigs, they've gotten so many different glues that
- 47:47Speaker 1: you can wear it for a week to two weeks
- 47:49Speaker 1: without taking it off. Now because they've made they've made
- 47:53Speaker 1: better glues. They've got adhesives that that doesn't damage your's
- 47:58Speaker 1: your skin and your hair and it doesn't you know,
- 48:01Speaker 1: they've they've made make better goose surgical adhesives that will
- 48:04Speaker 1: hold for like two weeks, and you just take it off,
- 48:08Speaker 1: you know, go to the salon, have it removed, have
- 48:10Speaker 1: your wig, shampoo clean the wig, have it reglued, and
- 48:13Speaker 1: you set for another two weeks. We'll tell us about
- 48:15Speaker 1: your wig collection. Okay, cool, Well you know my weird collection.
- 48:21Speaker 1: What I did? I mean, everybody's doing wigs but you know,
- 48:24Speaker 1: I wanted to do wigs that were, um going to
- 48:27Speaker 1: be custom, and um, I like to do wigs that
- 48:32Speaker 1: are custom hairline because sometimes the hairline on on the
- 48:35Speaker 1: wigs that manufacturers make, they don't match our hairlines. They're
- 48:40Speaker 1: sometimes they're like really straight hairlines, and they don't look real. Uh,
- 48:44Speaker 1: they don't have widow speaks, they don't have the temple
- 48:46Speaker 1: area is not matching, and certain things that these little nuances,
- 48:51Speaker 1: it makes it not look real. And I I like,
- 48:55Speaker 1: I like hair to look real. And so a lot
- 48:56Speaker 1: of times what I do with some of my wigs is, um,
- 48:59Speaker 1: I will eventually late uh kinky hair around the edges.
- 49:04Speaker 1: And what I do is because you know, nobody's hairs
- 49:07Speaker 1: bones straight, especially I especially black women. You know, they
- 49:10Speaker 1: got they got edges and well it's baby hair or
- 49:14Speaker 1: some of them, but some of them got edges. Now
- 49:16Speaker 1: you know some of these women got edges. They got
- 49:18Speaker 1: they got that who makes you stuff? You know, it's
- 49:21Speaker 1: like jack, So you know you gotta you gotta do
- 49:24Speaker 1: with that. And they have a lot of kinky textures.
- 49:27Speaker 1: You know, some of these women got these kinky textures
- 49:29Speaker 1: and they want to put this European hairy and it
- 49:31Speaker 1: doesn't match. So I like using different textures, like using
- 49:35Speaker 1: the kinky texture, like put kinky edges in, And what
- 49:37Speaker 1: I do is I put them in, but I used
- 49:38Speaker 1: the pressing home to press them, so it makes it
- 49:40Speaker 1: look real there. So that's that's that's that's where I do.
- 49:43Speaker 1: That almost feels custom. It is custom. So when you
- 49:47Speaker 1: get those kinky edges and you put that presson home on,
- 49:50Speaker 1: you know, it's gonna look like, okay, it looks like
- 49:52Speaker 1: your edges. You ain't gotta do the baby hand okay,
- 49:55Speaker 1: because it's gonna look like you're real edges. And if
- 49:57Speaker 1: you start to perspire them things, they're gonna start kicking
- 49:59Speaker 1: out like you you know, it really takes it to
- 50:03Speaker 1: another level. It makes it look more authentic. That's that's
- 50:07Speaker 1: a vision. Okay. Now when when when you ever you
- 50:10Speaker 1: start a vision, people always question, why are you gonna
- 50:13Speaker 1: do that? Just what everybody else is doing? How did
- 50:16Speaker 1: you walk through that? Well? You know what, it's just
- 50:18Speaker 1: like I was doing. I've been doing weeks in movies.
- 50:21Speaker 1: UM and I did UM this show with to Sheina
- 50:25Speaker 1: Arnold and she was she was wearing a wig and
- 50:29Speaker 1: the wig was so straight. I said, now I need
- 50:31Speaker 1: this this this this week, like it's going out of
- 50:33Speaker 1: her scalp. So I, uh, I wanted to skinky hair,
- 50:37Speaker 1: and I ventilated some skinky hair around her edges and
- 50:39Speaker 1: then I started to pressing and it made it look
- 50:41Speaker 1: more real and I started to use that. Uh, it
- 50:45Speaker 1: was a show, Um, it was my showtime. What was
- 50:48Speaker 1: the show I did with her? It was? What was
- 50:53Speaker 1: that show? Hime? It was Stars Survive's remorse? I did
- 50:58Speaker 1: that with your show Survivor was Morris? I did that
- 51:01Speaker 1: were And so she wore the wig and uh, basically
- 51:04Speaker 1: I wanted it to look like her hair. And I
- 51:08Speaker 1: was a fan of that show. Yeah, so you saw it.
- 51:10Speaker 1: I saw it. I saw it. So what I did
- 51:12Speaker 1: and she was always so I just wanted I didn't
- 51:17Speaker 1: want it to look like a wig. And I did
- 51:19Speaker 1: that for Erica ashe as well, So she had a
- 51:21Speaker 1: wig on too, but it was a blond wig. So
- 51:23Speaker 1: I did that for her too, so just so that,
- 51:26Speaker 1: you know, I didn't want them to look like the
- 51:28Speaker 1: regular Thank you, thank you very much, because I especially Eric,
- 51:33Speaker 1: you know, I thought she just died her hair. Yeah,
- 51:35Speaker 1: and that was a wig. Thank you. And then I
- 51:37Speaker 1: also did did a wig on epayth the Murkerson when
- 51:40Speaker 1: I did a Lack of Wanna Blues. I don't know
- 51:42Speaker 1: if you remember that movie for HBO. Yeah, I did that,
- 51:44Speaker 1: and that's what movie I've nominated for an Emmy four.
- 51:47Speaker 1: And I wanted the texture to look like it was
- 51:50Speaker 1: back in the day. I didn't want to look like
- 51:53Speaker 1: a wig. I wanted to look like natural, you know,
- 51:55Speaker 1: black woman's hair. So the textures I used for that wig,
- 51:59Speaker 1: and then the the hair that I used, you know,
- 52:02Speaker 1: it looked like it was pressed hair. So so we
- 52:04Speaker 1: were talking about wigs. Okay, and you have a you
- 52:07Speaker 1: have a location right shoot that the wig is online? Yeah,
- 52:15Speaker 1: I have. I have a website. It's called the Renowned
- 52:18Speaker 1: Weird Collection dot com. That's that's perfect for you, rewn
- 52:21Speaker 1: Weird Collection. I would think of no other name now.
- 52:24Speaker 1: And I'll tell you where I got that name from. Actually,
- 52:27Speaker 1: my friend Vincent that's sitting over there. He started working
- 52:31Speaker 1: me back when you first got out of beauty school,
- 52:34Speaker 1: like maybe twenty five years ago, when I had my
- 52:36Speaker 1: son on Lindbergh. He was he was one of my
- 52:38Speaker 1: first workers. He had just got out of beauty school.
- 52:40Speaker 1: So he worked with me. So I used to they
- 52:42Speaker 1: used going to work and used I was very adamant
- 52:44Speaker 1: about them coming on time. Where shirts and ties right,
- 52:47Speaker 1: And so he started calling me. He called me the
- 52:50Speaker 1: renown way back then, and he just kept calling me
- 52:53Speaker 1: now every time you see me, said the renown, the renown,
- 52:55Speaker 1: the redown. So this year, I said, last year, I said,
- 53:00Speaker 1: I said, I'm gonna stalk calling myself the renow because
- 53:01Speaker 1: he calls me that all the time. So I said,
- 53:04Speaker 1: I'm just gonna ahead and then on my name because
- 53:06Speaker 1: that's what I love me and I love it. It's
- 53:08Speaker 1: perfect because the thing about it, you know why it
- 53:10Speaker 1: fits because you've heard it so long. It's part of
- 53:13Speaker 1: your culture, that's your mentality, you know what. That's what
- 53:15Speaker 1: he's spoken to my life. He spoken into my life.
- 53:17Speaker 1: He kept calling me the renown, the renown, the renown.
- 53:20Speaker 1: So I said, well, I'm gonna go ahead and receive
- 53:21Speaker 1: that and either renew. Interesting thing about I've always tell
- 53:24Speaker 1: people you gotta have people around who champing you, and
- 53:27Speaker 1: that that's something I had to discover because you you
- 53:30Speaker 1: gotta have people to tell you how great you are.
- 53:33Speaker 1: People tell you how special you are you're doing is differently,
- 53:35Speaker 1: and that's all he was doing exactly. He was speaking.
- 53:38Speaker 1: You decided to listen. Yeah, he was speaking prophetic words.
- 53:41Speaker 1: Stop stop stop exactly. He was speaking prophetically in my
- 53:44Speaker 1: life and I didn't know it. You know, It's like,
- 53:47Speaker 1: come on, that's why, that's why we have to speak
- 53:50Speaker 1: prophetically over over our children, over everybody we meet. You
- 53:54Speaker 1: want to speak prophetic things over them. Like in the nineties,
- 53:56Speaker 1: I had a receptance with a computer most black people
- 54:00Speaker 1: and they didn't have a computer. Absolutely, and I have
- 54:02Speaker 1: kept up with technology. I learned how to program a
- 54:05Speaker 1: MS dots. I taught myself how to do a computer.
