- 1:44Speaker 2: Hi, I'm siding less. Thank you so much for the opportunity,
- 1:48Speaker 2: So excited to get into this conversation.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Great Now, why did you become a nurse?
- 1:54Speaker 3: Great question.
- 1:55Speaker 2: So growing up, I always used to play with my dolls.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I would always put band aids, use up all the
- 2:02Speaker 2: band aids, and it was funny because my family, my
- 2:07Speaker 2: dad's side of the family, would always try to push
- 2:09Speaker 2: me into becoming a doctor. I knew that I wanted
- 2:12Speaker 2: to be a nurse, particularly an emergency nurse. I started
- 2:16Speaker 2: watching the show called Trauma Life in the Er and
- 2:21Speaker 2: I totally fell in love. I'm like, that's the type
- 2:24Speaker 2: of nurse that I want to be to really help
- 2:27Speaker 2: people in their most vulnerable times in emergency situations. So
- 2:32Speaker 2: that's why I decided to go into nursing.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Did any of it take you back? Did any of
- 2:37Speaker 1: it make you question your decision or career choice.
- 2:41Speaker 3: No, I was writing it. I was like, this is it,
- 2:44Speaker 3: this is for me.
- 2:45Speaker 2: I love it particularly. One big accomplishment was working in Detroit,
- 2:53Speaker 2: Michigan at eleven one Trauma Center there because that was
- 2:58Speaker 2: where one of the shows was filmed Traumling Here. So
- 3:01Speaker 2: it's three sixty that I got to actually work there.
- 3:04Speaker 3: It was amazing.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Now let me ask you this, why long did you
- 3:09Speaker 1: do that before you started venturing out as an entrepreneur
- 3:12Speaker 1: or seeing visions of other opportunities.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:16Speaker 2: So I did er nurse for about thirteen years. I traveled,
- 3:18Speaker 2: I did travel nursing, did it for thirteen years. Then
- 3:21Speaker 2: I transitioned into education and then some leadership positions. So
- 3:26Speaker 2: then that's when I started thinking, well, you know what,
- 3:29Speaker 2: I want to make a difference in a different way.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Let me look into entrepreneurship. Because I was.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Already doing coaching for these new nurses and really guiding them.
- 3:39Speaker 2: So I said, well, let me just try to turn
- 3:41Speaker 2: this into an actual business.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I'm talking to doctor pharallh lorent as la la u
- 3:47Speaker 1: r e n t. When we're talking about careers and
- 3:52Speaker 1: that's where people look at careers and nursing and did
- 3:56Speaker 1: you have a specific school that you thought was better
- 3:59Speaker 1: for you or you just went to a school that
- 4:01Speaker 1: was closer to home.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yeah, so I did my undergrad at the University in
- 4:07Speaker 2: Leinsor in Canada. To me, it was I wanted to
- 4:10Speaker 2: just be close to home. And when I thought about financially,
- 4:14Speaker 2: you know, I wanted to actually go to Toronto, which
- 4:16Speaker 2: is like a big city. A lot of you know
- 4:18Speaker 2: people know Toronto. But I was like, you know what, No,
- 4:20Speaker 2: I'm gonna stay home because financially it makes sense. I'll
- 4:23Speaker 2: paid less money, stay home, pay off my student loans,
- 4:27Speaker 2: and then be able to travel later.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna tell you this to be honest with
- 4:31Speaker 1: your pheral. Well, you start talking about nursing, nobody thinks
- 4:33Speaker 1: about money. And so with that being said, you start
- 4:37Speaker 1: talking about one hundred thousand, one hundred and seventy five
- 4:39Speaker 1: thousand salaries. Now that's a salary. I never thought in
- 4:44Speaker 1: the nursing profession are these one off? So are these
- 4:47Speaker 1: like unique opportunities that you're talking about when you say
- 4:50Speaker 1: one hundred thousand to one hundred and seventy five thousand,
- 4:53Speaker 1: are they working one hundred and twenty hours a week?
- 4:56Speaker 1: Are these forty hour week schedules? Talk to me?
- 4:59Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's interesting.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Okay, So the reason I decided to start talking more
- 5:04Speaker 2: about money in nursing is because, like you said, most
- 5:07Speaker 2: people don't talk about that. So new graduate nurses today
- 5:15Speaker 2: in these bigger cities like New York City and California areas,
- 5:19Speaker 2: mostly Northern California, they're making baseline at least one hundred
- 5:24Speaker 2: thousand up to one hundred and seventy five k as
- 5:28Speaker 2: new nurses. So it is possible in these bigger cities
- 5:33Speaker 2: to make that much. And really nationally, I think the
- 5:36Speaker 2: average is maybe about seventy thousand depending you know, kind
- 5:41Speaker 2: of give and take. So it's a really good profession
- 5:44Speaker 2: to get into for job security and you know, to
- 5:48Speaker 2: be able to be sustained.
- 5:50Speaker 3: On that salary.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Let's be honest, we have a generation, they're getting older
- 5:56Speaker 1: and sometimes you don't know how to separate a caregiver
- 6:02Speaker 1: from a nurse. That means respect has to be defined.
- 6:06Speaker 1: When you look at a profession that is your life
- 6:09Speaker 1: that you are up, that you turned into an entrepreneur opportunity.
- 6:13Speaker 1: You see the broad scope of financial worlds that are
- 6:17Speaker 1: being available for nurses, especially entry level nurses. What do
- 6:21Speaker 1: you say when I say, Richard, you know that's not
- 6:24Speaker 1: a respected position because people don't know what nurses do well.
- 6:28Speaker 2: This is why one of my key agenda items is
- 6:32Speaker 2: to really be in the media, to be educating the
- 6:36Speaker 2: public about the opportunities that nursing does give the nursing profession.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I think really back in the day, you know, there's
- 6:45Speaker 2: this this kind of vision of nursing. You know, you
- 6:49Speaker 2: just kind of set and listen to the doctor and
- 6:52Speaker 2: you don't have to put autonomy. But general nursing has
- 6:56Speaker 2: really evolved and changed. Where nurses are working in the GUS,
- 7:00Speaker 2: working in policy, you know, in the communities, so many
- 7:04Speaker 2: different aspects that a lot of the public, you know,
- 7:07Speaker 2: don't realize.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Right.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Nurse anesthesia is another big growing field where you're actually
- 7:13Speaker 2: making over two hundred and three hundred thousand depending where
- 7:16Speaker 2: they work. And another big agenda item for me is
- 7:22Speaker 2: to help the public understand that we need more diversity
- 7:25Speaker 2: in nursing and more diversity in nursing leadership because that's
- 7:31Speaker 2: going to also help with a lot of the issues
- 7:33Speaker 2: that are happening in healthcare in terms of like closing
- 7:36Speaker 2: the gaps of inequalities.
- 7:38Speaker 1: So you say diversity in nursing, and now, you know,
- 7:41Speaker 1: it always surprises me when I see a male nurse, go,
- 7:44Speaker 1: you know, because you don't see I saw a male
- 7:47Speaker 1: nurse yesterday. Go okay, cool, you know, because you just
- 7:49Speaker 1: think that is a female grain and that's fairy stereo typing.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I'm apologized. But when you talk about racial diversity and
- 8:00Speaker 1: as will as language in that racial diversity, I think
- 8:04Speaker 1: is key because we know that the population of whites
- 8:09Speaker 1: reduction and then the minority growth, especially in the Hispanic community,
- 8:14Speaker 1: it's growing. Is that what you're talking about as far
- 8:16Speaker 1: as diversity.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean in all aspects.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Like you said, there are more male nurses entering the profession,
- 8:22Speaker 2: so that's one aspect of that diversity.
- 8:25Speaker 3: And yeah, just.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Making sure that nursing is representing the communities that they serve,
- 8:32Speaker 2: because research shows when nurses basically look like the communities
- 8:38Speaker 2: they serve, patients have better outcomes.
- 8:42Speaker 1: I was speaking of Pharaoh Laurette. You know, she's an
- 8:44Speaker 1: advocate of change and opportunities in the nursing profession. One
- 8:49Speaker 1: hundred thousand to one hundred and seventy five thousand dollars
- 8:52Speaker 1: entry level salaries are available out there. There's so many levels.
- 8:55Speaker 1: She was an emergency room nurse when she cut her teeth.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Now she's out there broadcasting to the world the lanes
- 9:03Speaker 1: of opportunity. And then you have this little nurse in
- 9:06Speaker 1: there trying to battle with these people doing care with them,
- 9:11Speaker 1: which can lead to excessive hours that happened during COVID
- 9:15Speaker 1: and burnout. Talk about that side of your profession. Not
- 9:19Speaker 1: trying to down it, but there are certain realities that
- 9:23Speaker 1: we have to deal with because some of this stuff
- 9:25Speaker 1: you do take home emotionally, right.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, So this is what I do with my
- 9:31Speaker 2: new graduate nurses and also some other nurses that I've
- 9:33Speaker 2: worked with. I want to get into, say education leadership,
- 9:37Speaker 2: or want to transition into entrepreneurship, and I think this
- 9:40Speaker 2: is why so many nurses are now looking at entrepreneurship.
- 9:44Speaker 2: And I'm sure we'll get into that in a minute.
- 9:47Speaker 2: But really it's all about self care. They talk about
- 9:50Speaker 2: self care quite a bit, but to me, it's all
- 9:52Speaker 2: about fulfillment. If you feel fulfilled in your role and
- 9:56Speaker 2: you're in alignment with the values that you know, you're
- 10:02Speaker 2: excited about the particular population you're serving or the type
- 10:05Speaker 2: of work you're doing, then I don't think you're gonna
- 10:07Speaker 2: get burnt out. For me, after thirteen years, I knew
- 10:11Speaker 2: it was time to change. So that's really the beauty
- 10:13Speaker 2: of nursing. You can adapt and do so many different things.
- 10:17Speaker 2: So that's kind of my answer is so just to
- 10:21Speaker 2: be in touch with what it is that you're feeling.
- 10:25Speaker 2: If you feel like you're getting burnt out, then it's
- 10:28Speaker 2: time for a change.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Now let's talk about before we get to entrepreneurship. Is
- 10:34Speaker 1: graduating season nurses out there looking for job opportunities. What
- 10:39Speaker 1: advice would you give to freshly graduated nurses out there
- 10:43Speaker 1: looking for opportunities to get the job of their dreams.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great question. So that's what I love
- 10:49Speaker 2: to talk about. Number One, I say, get clear, Get
- 10:53Speaker 2: clarity on what it is that you want. So many
- 10:56Speaker 2: nurses feel like they just want to say for anything,
- 11:01Speaker 2: that's the wrong thing to do. Get clear on what
- 11:04Speaker 2: it is that you want, what skills strengths, what population
- 11:07Speaker 2: you want to work with and go after those jobs.
- 11:10Speaker 2: So for me, that's what I tell them. If there's
- 11:13Speaker 2: a specific specialty that you're interested in, I see, er
- 11:17Speaker 2: doesn't even have to be in the hospital, could be
- 11:19Speaker 2: in the community. Just go for that. And then the
- 11:22Speaker 2: second thing is to be confident.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:25Speaker 2: How do you really instill confidence is through preparation. You
- 11:30Speaker 2: need to be prepared for these interviews and not just
- 11:34Speaker 2: wing it. A lot of nurses think they could just
- 11:36Speaker 2: go in and just wing it right, but you can
- 11:38Speaker 2: literally be blowing the opportunity of the real jobs that
- 11:42Speaker 2: you want. And then thirdly, I would say really working
- 11:45Speaker 2: on their personal brand and their digital presence because ninety
- 11:50Speaker 2: five percent of recruiters will go on LinkedIn and research
- 11:54Speaker 2: these candidates. So really having a LinkedIn profile that really
- 12:00Speaker 2: speaks to your strengths, having a profile photo, working on
- 12:04Speaker 2: that blend. So that's what I would say.
- 12:08Speaker 1: We're not talking about Facebook, We're not talking about Instagram.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Were talking about LinkedIn, which is where people go for
- 12:14Speaker 1: job opportunities. We're not talking about formats where you're posting
- 12:17Speaker 1: your paths or your party and moments. We talk about
- 12:21Speaker 1: Hey I was here at this conference. Hey I've read
- 12:24Speaker 1: this book. I'm motivated by this. So they get a
- 12:27Speaker 1: sense of how you feel about the profession and who
- 12:31Speaker 1: are who's guiding you to your your truths. Now that's key.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Now you've helped over one hundred people one hundred thousand.
- 12:38Speaker 1: We've said that a lot on the show on hundred
- 12:40Speaker 1: and seventy five thous i'ma keep saying. I think if
- 12:42Speaker 1: you keep saying, some people eventually will hear it. What
- 12:45Speaker 1: is the secret to negotiations?
- 12:47Speaker 2: Pharaoh? So really the secret, I would say is number one,
- 12:52Speaker 2: doing your research and knowing what city you're in, what
- 12:57Speaker 2: health system is going to protectly offer you, and then
- 13:02Speaker 2: being able to have a baseline salary that you want
- 13:07Speaker 2: and then I please say, add at least like twenty
- 13:10Speaker 2: k to it, so it gives you some buffer to
- 13:13Speaker 2: really be able to negotiate. And then you need to
- 13:17Speaker 2: work on I always talk about pitch it. You know,
- 13:20Speaker 2: how do you pitch yourself? Articulate your value because they'll
- 13:24Speaker 2: come to the table with a number, but you need
- 13:27Speaker 2: to be prepared to counter back. And really how to
- 13:30Speaker 2: do that is through research and being able to articulate
- 13:34Speaker 2: your value and express what you're going to bring to
- 13:36Speaker 2: this organization and then be able to just counter back
- 13:40Speaker 2: and forth.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Please don't go anywhere. We'll be right back with more
- 13:44Speaker 4: Money Making Conversations Masterclass. Welcome back to the Money Making
- 13:53Speaker 4: Conversations Masterclass hosted by Rashaan McDonald.
- 13:58Speaker 1: And the word Walk and knowing a little history on
- 14:01Speaker 1: the company. And this company is a hospital. There's so
- 14:04Speaker 1: many different facilities and so many you know, always tell
- 14:08Speaker 1: people people are always gonna get six, people are always gonna die.
- 14:11Speaker 1: There's gonna be jobs for you out there. Just and
- 14:14Speaker 1: also be willing to move too. I don't know, Well,
- 14:18Speaker 1: guess what that one hundred and seventy five thousand might
- 14:21Speaker 1: be six hours away, might be another state away. So
- 14:24Speaker 1: be flexible and your planning for your future. And a
- 14:27Speaker 1: lot of people have a closed mind about that. And
- 14:30Speaker 1: that's the approach you're trying to. I think when I
- 14:32Speaker 1: did my research on you, Pharah, your success, when I
- 14:35Speaker 1: started talking about you started up in Winsdor, Canada. Then
- 14:38Speaker 1: you're in Michigan, now you're in New York, now you're
- 14:40Speaker 1: on TV with Jennifer Hudson. You're doing it all girl.
- 14:43Speaker 1: That means you're a flexible person with a personality for change.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Correct, Yes, yes, I mean you You hit it right
- 14:50Speaker 2: on the nail. You said mindset. Literally, I was on
- 14:53Speaker 2: a call previous to us, speaking to a new graduate
- 14:57Speaker 2: nurse about moving herself from a scarcity mindset and moving
- 15:03Speaker 2: more into an abundant mindset because so many of us
- 15:07Speaker 2: get stuck in negativity and they need to start moving
- 15:10Speaker 2: towards learning that. Like say, you know, investing in a
- 15:14Speaker 2: nurse career coach instead of investment, investing in an outfit
- 15:17Speaker 2: to go to your interview. That's an investment and you're
- 15:21Speaker 2: gonna get it back right. So positive thinking and positioning
- 15:25Speaker 2: yourself to receive right more abundant. So I think it's
- 15:30Speaker 2: mindset is huge when it comes to a tu Let's.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Talk about this because it just popped it by head. Okay,
- 15:37Speaker 1: what does a nurse look like when you're going in
- 15:40Speaker 1: for interview? Because when you go get the job, they
- 15:42Speaker 1: got you in this little standard, little green outfit. Okay,
- 15:45Speaker 1: what should one look like when they're interviewing for a
- 15:48Speaker 1: job to be a nurse?
- 15:51Speaker 2: Well, I have a whole different take on this. Literally,
- 15:54Speaker 2: most nurses will just listen to what everybody else thinks
- 15:58Speaker 2: or what they think is professional, and I'm like, what
- 16:01Speaker 2: does professional really look like? So what's happening is most
- 16:05Speaker 2: nurses are going into interviews wearing either a black suit
- 16:09Speaker 2: or a gray suit, sounding like everybody else, looking like
- 16:13Speaker 2: everybody else, and they're like, listen, you need to physically
- 16:17Speaker 2: stand out. So I'll give you a quick example. I
- 16:20Speaker 2: worked with the nurse in California. She wanted to work
- 16:23Speaker 2: in labor and delivery. She had a group interview, so
- 16:26Speaker 2: I said, listen, you're going to get She was a redhead.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I said you're gonna go and get a green suit,
- 16:33Speaker 2: and she said really, I said yes. So she walked
- 16:37Speaker 2: into the interview wearing a green suit, and guess what,
- 16:41Speaker 2: she was the only one wearing a different color everybody else.
- 16:44Speaker 2: It was like a sea of black and there you
- 16:46Speaker 2: go her in green. So of course she's going to
- 16:48Speaker 2: naturally stand out. She's gonna look more confident and be
- 16:53Speaker 2: more confident in the interview. So I say, bring it
- 16:56Speaker 2: a little bit of your personality, and you have to
- 17:00Speaker 2: show up to impress and make them do a double
- 17:03Speaker 2: take so they remember you.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Well. The double take is the key and they get
- 17:07Speaker 1: to the finish line. Now you mentioned a couple of people.
- 17:10Speaker 1: The you know this young lady that you recommended for
- 17:12Speaker 1: the green dress, who was the redhead that's right there.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I'm looking like, wow, it's the nergy coming in this room.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Then the mindset person. So I'm assuming that you do coaching.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Correct, yes, nurse career coaching, yes?
- 17:26Speaker 1: What is that?
- 17:28Speaker 2: So basically, you know, when I was in the emergency room,
- 17:31Speaker 2: I constantly was always coaching nurses to how to write
- 17:36Speaker 2: a resume, how to do a cover letter, how to
- 17:40Speaker 2: you know, really get the job in an interview. So
- 17:43Speaker 2: I was naturally always doing these types of things, and
- 17:46Speaker 2: then I said, no, I could turn this into an
- 17:48Speaker 2: actual business. So what I do now is actually coach
- 17:52Speaker 2: new graduate nurses on how to land their dream job
- 17:56Speaker 2: literally from being a nursing student after they get it out.
- 18:00Speaker 2: And some of them are even landing jobs as nursing
- 18:03Speaker 2: students and they don't realize they can start.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Applying before they graduate. So really that's what I do.
- 18:10Speaker 2: And I thought it was gonna be a lot of
- 18:11Speaker 2: technical aspects like resumes, interviews, but I'm actually doing more
- 18:16Speaker 2: transformative work in terms of mindset, helping them with confidence
- 18:22Speaker 2: and doing you know, more of that stut helping them.
- 18:25Speaker 1: With them, So how can we get in touch with you?
- 18:28Speaker 3: Oh?
- 18:29Speaker 2: So they could go on my website nurse fair dot
- 18:32Speaker 2: com to work with me, or on LinkedIn find me
- 18:36Speaker 2: on LinkedIn doctor.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Pharah Lorett mm hmyeah, so that's that's that name will
- 18:41Speaker 1: pop up pretty quick. I know that Pharaoh f A
- 18:44Speaker 1: R A H and Loret with a T. I think
- 18:47Speaker 1: they'll find you.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Yeah, they can just google me. I'm all over woo.
- 18:51Speaker 1: See see see right there. See I thought it's gonna
- 18:54Speaker 1: pop out. I do this personality, go pop then google me,
- 18:57Speaker 1: just google me. I'm like that. But let's let's talking
- 19:00Speaker 1: about red flags because I don't want anybody to not
- 19:04Speaker 1: do their research when they try to get these jobs
- 19:07Speaker 1: or what are some of the red flags that new
- 19:09Speaker 1: nurses should look for when choose in their first hospital
- 19:12Speaker 1: or healthcare employer?
- 19:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah, this is great. So I always say, think
- 19:18Speaker 2: of yourself as an interviewer as well. You're also interviewing
- 19:21Speaker 2: your employer, right, So number one red flag I would say,
- 19:26Speaker 2: is the interview process. How does the interview process look like?
- 19:31Speaker 2: If it's a mess, unorganized and I understand, like you know,
- 19:35Speaker 2: sometimes things happen, but if it's consistently messy, unorganized to
- 19:40Speaker 2: keep chancelling things that could be foreshadowing of what that
- 19:44Speaker 2: organization might look like when you're in it. Right Number two,
- 19:48Speaker 2: how do they treat you when you're in the interview
- 19:51Speaker 2: if it's the direct supervisor manager, how does that relationship
- 19:56Speaker 2: look like? Are they welcoming or are they very interrogated,
- 20:02Speaker 2: interrogative and like cold?
- 20:04Speaker 3: Right?
- 20:04Speaker 2: Because to me, if I want to enter a profession
- 20:08Speaker 2: and work with a particular group of people, I want
- 20:10Speaker 2: to make sure they're welcoming. So I always say to nurses,
- 20:14Speaker 2: ask for a tour of where you're going to be working,
- 20:17Speaker 2: so you'll get a sense of I always say the
- 20:19Speaker 2: vibe of the place, right, because you can't really hide
- 20:23Speaker 2: that right when you're kind of walking.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Through and taking a tour.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Another red flag is if they're trying to give you
- 20:29Speaker 2: the job really quickly.
- 20:34Speaker 3: But that's what you wrote though right tomorrow.
- 20:37Speaker 2: And then high turnover if there's a lot of turnover
- 20:41Speaker 2: even in their leadership as well.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Yeah, oh, I tell how I'm not going to take that.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Somebody you walk in the door. Everybody's looking for a job,
- 20:49Speaker 1: not Pharaoh, doctor Pharah, you know, and they go, can
- 20:54Speaker 1: you start next week?
- 20:55Speaker 3: Is that too quick? What is too quick?
- 20:57Speaker 1: Is it next week?
- 20:58Speaker 3: Two weeks?
- 20:58Speaker 1: Were now?
- 20:59Speaker 3: I mean you kind of have to get.
- 21:03Speaker 1: A sense of it, you know, because if somebody tell
- 21:05Speaker 1: me one hundred thousand dollars, can you start on Monday
- 21:08Speaker 1: and it's Friday, I'm gonna go. Okay, I'm feeling the paperwork.
- 21:11Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm feel out the paperwork. God, I'm just
- 21:14Speaker 1: telling you that's a great note because I believe in that.
- 21:18Speaker 1: But also you're just telling people that. Okay, always pause
- 21:22Speaker 1: before you say yes, go home, think about what is
- 21:26Speaker 1: what is what is all that salary involved? And I
- 21:29Speaker 1: think that's important in the process to make sure you
- 21:32Speaker 1: have a clear understanding of your job responsibilities as well
- 21:36Speaker 1: as your work hours because and your shift hours there
- 21:40Speaker 1: a shift you want to work. So it's important that
- 21:42Speaker 1: money does come with consequences, correct, right.
- 21:46Speaker 2: And like you mentioned, look at the whole package, right, Compensation, vacation,
- 21:51Speaker 2: time off, all that stuff is important. Is it a union, hospital,
- 21:55Speaker 2: non union? Is it pension? You know you got to
- 21:58Speaker 2: look at all those benefits.
- 22:00Speaker 1: It's hurt cool now, doctor Farrel Lorang, you're an entrepreneur, yes,
- 22:05Speaker 1: you know you get up when you feel, like you
- 22:07Speaker 1: said in your schedule, how does one transition from the
- 22:11Speaker 1: life of a nurse for the hour over time tire
- 22:16Speaker 1: to be you or be in a position to field
- 22:19Speaker 1: an opportunity as an entrepreneur.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Yeah, so this is a great question.
- 22:24Speaker 2: A lot of nurses, like I said, are going into
- 22:26Speaker 2: entrepreneurship for more flexibility and freedom.
- 22:29Speaker 3: So there's a couple of different aspects.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Nurse practitioners are now trying to do maybe a brick
- 22:35Speaker 2: and mortar private practice, some are doing telehealth businesses, and
- 22:39Speaker 2: then my favorite is service based businesses in terms of
- 22:44Speaker 2: coaching or consulting. So, to me, any nurse who's interested
- 22:49Speaker 2: in entrepreneurship, whether you want to do a side hustle
- 22:52Speaker 2: or your main hustle, consulting or coaching is an easy
- 22:56Speaker 2: way to get into it because you're using your intellectual
- 22:59Speaker 2: property what you already know to monetize off of that.
- 23:04Speaker 2: So that is my biggest recommendation. So I'm actually I've
- 23:10Speaker 2: recently been doing master classes for business master classes in
- 23:15Speaker 2: Clearwater Beach. I just moved to Florida recently and really
- 23:20Speaker 2: teaching nurses about the basics of nursing, I mean business
- 23:25Speaker 2: and how to go from a nurse to more of
- 23:28Speaker 2: a business mindset and helping them with you know those concepts.
- 23:33Speaker 1: So yeah, cool, you're also the founder of Nurses Making
- 23:37Speaker 1: Money Moves now money Making Conferenations mass class is my show.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Her for platform is Nurses Making Money Moves conference, and
- 23:46Speaker 1: the author of a book by the same name tells
- 23:48Speaker 1: them more about the movement and what inspired it.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:51Speaker 2: So, actually I was going to speak at a conference
- 23:54Speaker 2: and I thought, you know what, what's going to help
- 23:57Speaker 2: me stand out and what can I bring to the
- 24:00Speaker 2: people at the conference who are aspiring nurse entrepreneurs so
- 24:04Speaker 2: that they can benefit from it. So literally, I had
- 24:07Speaker 2: a couple of weeks, so I created this work book
- 24:10Speaker 2: called Nurses Making My Names a Nurse's Guide to Starting
- 24:13Speaker 2: a Business, and it literally just takes an idea to
- 24:18Speaker 2: register in your business. So I brought this book to
- 24:20Speaker 2: the conference and I started selling it at the conference.
- 24:24Speaker 2: I had such a big positive response that literally I said, well,
- 24:30Speaker 2: you know what, I'm gonna eventually turn this into a conference.
- 24:33Speaker 3: So I had ten weeks and I decided I'm going.
- 24:38Speaker 2: To throw a conference. And everyone thought I was crazy.
- 24:41Speaker 2: They're like, fair, you need a year to plan. I'm like,
- 24:43Speaker 2: I got this.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Two weeks.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I had the venue books, all the speaker, and that
- 24:54Speaker 2: was new to the Tampa Bay area. I knew no one.
- 24:58Speaker 2: I got seventy nurses to come through from twenty different
- 25:01Speaker 2: states with zero sponsors.
- 25:04Speaker 3: So if anybody's out.
- 25:05Speaker 2: There wants the sponsor the next conference, let me know.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Ben Well planned conference with a year in advance. That's
- 25:13Speaker 1: how you get sponsors for You're gonna have a window.
- 25:17Speaker 1: They're usually in the fall. They're out there looking for opportunities.
- 25:21Speaker 1: So now you have a conference that you can show
- 25:23Speaker 1: your your demographics. So it's good that you did kick
- 25:26Speaker 1: it off and you have photos, you have videos and
- 25:29Speaker 1: all that good stuff.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, here go. I just knocked out my leg.
- 25:32Speaker 3: But as an nurse, as an ear nurse, we just
- 25:36Speaker 3: roll with it. So I made it happen.
- 25:39Speaker 1: It was congratulations.
- 25:40Speaker 2: I was pretty proud of myself. So the next one
- 25:42Speaker 2: is happening March sixteen seven, twenty twenty six. And the
- 25:46Speaker 2: reason I chose March is because I'm, you know, being
- 25:50Speaker 2: into women's empowerment and really helping women with their businesses
- 25:55Speaker 2: because you know the majority of nurses are women.
- 25:58Speaker 1: So yeah, absolutely, Uh and closing. If anyone's listening Pharah,
- 26:03Speaker 1: whether they are a new nurse or nurse considering a
- 26:05Speaker 1: shift into entrepreneurship, what's the one piece of advice you
- 26:09Speaker 1: want them to take away from your story?
- 26:12Speaker 2: So the real key things I want to tell them
- 26:15Speaker 2: is if I can do it, you can do it too, right,
- 26:18Speaker 2: number one. It all starts with an idea and the mindset,
- 26:22Speaker 2: and the biggest thing is to just.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Take action and actually do it.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Just do it and literally it takes three days or
- 26:31Speaker 2: four days to register our business. But the biggest thing
- 26:35Speaker 2: is really getting out there, being visible, networking and building
- 26:40Speaker 2: your brand because once people trust you and you start
- 26:44Speaker 2: being visible and building that brand and getting value and
- 26:47Speaker 2: being of service to others, all you're doing is solving
- 26:51Speaker 2: problems in entrepreneurship, right, and nurses are big problem solvers.
- 26:56Speaker 2: So find the problem you want to solve and go
- 26:59Speaker 2: for it.
- 27:00Speaker 3: But before you.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Do, make sure that people actually need it and want
- 27:03Speaker 2: to apply it, and then do your market research and
- 27:07Speaker 2: just go for it.
- 27:08Speaker 3: And that's really my biggest advice.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Well, my friend she's now in Florida. Everybody she started
- 27:13Speaker 1: up in Canada made Away through Michigan made Away through
- 27:17Speaker 1: New York. Now is you in Canada? Now's you're in
- 27:19Speaker 1: Florida down at Tampa turning it out with our own conference.
- 27:23Speaker 1: They will be next year, which is twenty twenty six
- 27:27Speaker 1: in March. My friend, you're fantastic. Thank you for educating me.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Like I said, I have a sister in law who
- 27:33Speaker 1: is a very proud member of the nurse profession. But
- 27:36Speaker 1: there are so many stereotypes. You've broken down a lot
- 27:39Speaker 1: of them. But also then everybody know their financial opportunities
- 27:43Speaker 1: out there, not only in the nurse profession but also
- 27:46Speaker 1: at entrepreneurship. Thank you for coming on my show, Money
- 27:49Speaker 1: Making Conversation Masterclass, Doctor Pharaoh Loren.
