- 0:00Speaker 1: Please work with to Money Making Conversations master Class. The
- 0:02Speaker 1: franchise owner of a Nothing Bontcake location, Charlie Shaw, I'm wonderful.
- 0:08Speaker 1: How are you shying? I'm happy to be here. Thank
- 0:10Speaker 1: you for having me. Well, first of all, let's talk
- 0:12Speaker 1: about the relationship. You know, in my business, somebody had
- 0:17Speaker 1: delivery gifted me You're prob and I was happy. Manybody
- 0:25Speaker 1: know what they followed and they know I love sweets.
- 0:27Speaker 1: And I immediately invited you because I asked you. I said,
- 0:30Speaker 1: because you know I'm gonna be honest with I. I
- 0:32Speaker 1: stereotyped it. I thought she was just a delivery person.
- 0:34Speaker 1: She said, no, I am the owner of this location.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I went wow, and I said, could you come on
- 0:39Speaker 1: my show? And we've been going back and forth because
- 0:41Speaker 1: your schedule has been busy, and finally you're able to
- 0:44Speaker 1: come my man show in Black History. Mom, it's proud
- 0:48Speaker 1: and talk about what you do. Let's talk about before
- 0:51Speaker 1: you made this decision, Charlie, to be a franchise So
- 0:54Speaker 1: a little background. I'm a CPI. So I've been in
- 0:57Speaker 1: accounting my whole life. Always knew I wanted to be
- 1:00Speaker 1: an accountant. From Philadelphia. I went to Temple University for
- 1:04Speaker 1: my undergrad and accounting had a taxation class, and I
- 1:09Speaker 1: think I want to do taxes. So I went and
- 1:11Speaker 1: got my masters and taxation, and um that's what I did.
- 1:16Speaker 1: So I was a tax accountant for most of my life,
- 1:19Speaker 1: and I thought I would do that for the rest
- 1:21Speaker 1: of my life. I'm gonna tell you something I am
- 1:22Speaker 1: afraid to do time. I would degree in mathematics. You
- 1:25Speaker 1: cannot even an easy for him. I get nervous that.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I swear to you, I will go to h and
- 1:32Speaker 1: whatever whatever about that don't tax I would take it
- 1:35Speaker 1: easy for him. Okay, you know, just just do it
- 1:38Speaker 1: you So for you, I am like borrowing down to
- 1:42Speaker 1: you to say, because you're confidently saying the taxes, that's
- 1:44Speaker 1: what I do. I do taxes, taxes when you look
- 1:46Speaker 1: at it, the guy and I've people tell me I'm
- 1:49Speaker 1: pretty smart. My degree, you know, I made it easis.
- 1:53Speaker 1: But I swear to you, I will not do my taxes.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I've never ever done my taxes because they intimidate me
- 2:00Speaker 1: in the whole process of making a mistake. Intimidated and so.
- 2:03Speaker 1: But so that means that you have to be a
- 2:04Speaker 1: confident person. Then, right, yeah. You know, UM, the law
- 2:08Speaker 1: changes often, so you're always doing your continuing education credits
- 2:13Speaker 1: and understanding the new laws and you know once you
- 2:16Speaker 1: and don't get me wrong. I started out as a
- 2:19Speaker 1: personal tax return prepared and when I moved to Atlanta,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I decided I want to be a business tax return
- 2:26Speaker 1: prepare And I was totally intimidated by that. UM, but
- 2:30Speaker 1: I googled a c p A I called her. I
- 2:33Speaker 1: told her, listen, I want to work for free. I
- 2:36Speaker 1: don't know business taxes. Can I please come to your
- 2:39Speaker 1: office and you teach me? And I learned for free,
- 2:42Speaker 1: just free, free, free, free, free free. So she's said,
- 2:45Speaker 1: uh yeah, so because she asked for your resume and
- 2:49Speaker 1: she saw, I'm gonna get this person this skills a
- 2:52Speaker 1: temple graduate for free, knowing what your ultimate goal was exactly,
- 2:57Speaker 1: so she um, it's a huge mentor for me. And
- 3:01Speaker 1: so I learned business axes and I had a corporate job.
- 3:04Speaker 1: That's how I moved to Atlanta UM from Philly. UM
- 3:07Speaker 1: large bank made me an offer that I couldn't refuse.
- 3:12Speaker 1: So packed up, you know, a little jeep, and I
- 3:15Speaker 1: moved to Atlanta. UM found an apartment three days later
- 3:18Speaker 1: and in Tucker. So Tucker has been where I moved
- 3:22Speaker 1: to first, at my first home, had my first job,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and now the Bakries and Tucker. So I have deep
- 3:28Speaker 1: roots with Tucker Tucker Georgia because it syndicated national. Yes Georgia,
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yes it is. Now let's let's talk about that. The differences,
- 3:37Speaker 1: you know, because we always talking about fear on this show.
- 3:40Speaker 1: You know you you you moved, you know, you are
- 3:43Speaker 1: all female, you know, transitioning from another major market to
- 3:47Speaker 1: another major market. But it is northeastern, NATA South. Were
- 3:51Speaker 1: there any what were the fears and making that move,
- 3:53Speaker 1: that decision to come to Atlanta, because there were some
- 3:56Speaker 1: there were a lot of fears. Um, but I it
- 3:59Speaker 1: was done of Philly. You know, I needed to change.
- 4:01Speaker 1: So I kind of left it open to where the
- 4:04Speaker 1: job opportunity took me. So d C, California, there were
- 4:08Speaker 1: all options, Texes. So when the door opened to Atlanta,
- 4:12Speaker 1: I was like, well, that's where I need to be.
- 4:14Speaker 1: So I came confidently with fears of what if I
- 4:18Speaker 1: don't do well at this job? What if you know,
- 4:21Speaker 1: what if? What if? What if? But I was like,
- 4:23Speaker 1: I could always go back to Philly, you know, all
- 4:25Speaker 1: my families in Philly, So you know that's um always
- 4:29Speaker 1: was a fallback plan if it had to be, but
- 4:33Speaker 1: never looked back. You know. Interesting, if you guys want
- 4:35Speaker 1: to talk and join this conversation. I remember when I
- 4:37Speaker 1: left IBM to pursue a stand up career, and I
- 4:40Speaker 1: left on great terms, and in fact, I tell people
- 4:43Speaker 1: when the Showman, I was in tears when I made
- 4:45Speaker 1: that decision a year in advance because it was such
- 4:48Speaker 1: an emotional decision that even though that knew working for
- 4:51Speaker 1: ib AND was not my future, it just didn't It
- 4:53Speaker 1: didn't excite me. I felt I saw myself being blocked
- 4:56Speaker 1: in creatively, and I went, Okay, this is not me.
- 5:00Speaker 1: And so because they had a successful model and they
- 5:02Speaker 1: wanted people to grow in that model, and I wanted
- 5:04Speaker 1: to do things outside of that model, and I went, no,
- 5:07Speaker 1: this is not me. But I know for a year
- 5:10Speaker 1: I kept thinking I can always go back, you know,
- 5:13Speaker 1: and then finally I said stop. Stop, stop that theory
- 5:17Speaker 1: that security blanket away, and stop that theory that you
- 5:21Speaker 1: can go back, and because that's not why you left.
- 5:24Speaker 1: You left to pursue your dreams. And that's right, that's
- 5:26Speaker 1: key right there. You left Philadelphia to pursue your dreams,
- 5:30Speaker 1: and in doing so, you had to take away that
- 5:34Speaker 1: thought process. When did you take away that thought process
- 5:36Speaker 1: that I had that you could always go back? Well
- 5:40Speaker 1: to make it even more you know, I took a
- 5:42Speaker 1: temp position at this bank. I didn't even have a
- 5:46Speaker 1: signed contract. I took a temp job and took a
- 5:49Speaker 1: leap on faith. So once I proved myself because I
- 5:52Speaker 1: was confident, I was like, I can do the work.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I got a full time contract about my apartment, started
- 5:58Speaker 1: building my network of friends, and I was like, this
- 6:01Speaker 1: is my home now, you know. And so so you
- 6:05Speaker 1: did free work. We don't come back after this break.
- 6:07Speaker 1: You've got a lot of talking. We did even talk
- 6:09Speaker 1: about cages. His story is so interested. But you're the
- 6:12Speaker 1: perfect guest for the show because I want people to
- 6:14Speaker 1: hear how it seems simple, it seems difficult, but fear
- 6:19Speaker 1: drive so many people from reaching their their ultimate dream.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And it is walking away. You know. I know that
- 6:25Speaker 1: my I've walked away from a lot of levels. So
- 6:27Speaker 1: there's a lot of people said you always seen and
- 6:29Speaker 1: people have called me a renaissance man, and sometimes I
- 6:33Speaker 1: don't know what that means. But when they look at
- 6:34Speaker 1: my resume, go you did this, you did this, you
- 6:36Speaker 1: did this, and you've been good at all these things.
- 6:38Speaker 1: And I say, because everything I do, I have done
- 6:41Speaker 1: in my life I wanted to do it. How you doing, Victoria?
- 6:44Speaker 1: You're calling in on Money Making Conversation Master master class
- 6:47Speaker 1: and you're speaking to me, And Charlie Shop asked, what
- 6:49Speaker 1: what can I what are you talking about? What question
- 6:51Speaker 1: can we ask me? Help you with? Good evening? Good evening?
- 6:53Speaker 1: How are you good? Good? Um? Okay? So um, I
- 6:59Speaker 1: was listening and I just want to come in you
- 7:03Speaker 1: um for taking a chance from moving from the Northeast
- 7:09Speaker 1: and then coming to Atlanta and all that. Um, was
- 7:12Speaker 1: there ever a time in your life where you didn't
- 7:15Speaker 1: have it all together? Like me and like you, you
- 7:20Speaker 1: couldn't hold on some money and it would just liquidate?
- 7:23Speaker 1: And Victoria, I'm a c p A right, I'm gonna
- 7:26Speaker 1: count and I take care of everybody's money. However, George,
- 7:31Speaker 1: your power had me no lights one day when I
- 7:34Speaker 1: came home. Okay, so you know, Rashaw was talking about
- 7:40Speaker 1: saving and how you wish you could, you know, save
- 7:43Speaker 1: and put things away. It was so easy for me
- 7:45Speaker 1: to tell my clients yes, you need to save, you
- 7:47Speaker 1: need to put ten percent here, you need to do,
- 7:49Speaker 1: you know, but just keeping it real. It's hard to
- 7:53Speaker 1: implement those things where you financially or where you want
- 7:57Speaker 1: to be. So absolutely the struggle was absolutely real. And um,
- 8:02Speaker 1: I just think the key to it was just standing
- 8:05Speaker 1: in my lane. You know a lot of my friends
- 8:07Speaker 1: was like, Oh, we're going out, We're going out. Nope,
- 8:09Speaker 1: not me, not tonight. You know, you know, you have
- 8:12Speaker 1: to sacrifice, um a lot of things in order to
- 8:17Speaker 1: get to where you need to be. So, like Rashawan said,
- 8:20Speaker 1: if you don't have a plan, you can't. You know.
- 8:23Speaker 1: I had a spreadsheet that I opened up every morning
- 8:26Speaker 1: when I was in Corporate America, and it was my debt.
- 8:29Speaker 1: I had all my credit cards on the spreadsheet. I
- 8:32Speaker 1: had a payment breakdown on how I was going to
- 8:34Speaker 1: get each balance to zero, and I was committed to
- 8:37Speaker 1: the two hundred dollars here, to two fifty here, the
- 8:39Speaker 1: hundred fifty here, the saying, oh I got a zero
- 8:42Speaker 1: balance on my Discover card, let me use that ten
- 8:46Speaker 1: thousand from there paid down my master card and then
- 8:50Speaker 1: I got zero interests on the bank. You know, it
- 8:53Speaker 1: was just maneuvering and figuring out, but having the plan
- 8:57Speaker 1: and being committed to the plan. And that's how was
- 9:00Speaker 1: able to get myself out of that credit card. That
- 9:03Speaker 1: that is inevitable when you don't come from money and
- 9:07Speaker 1: you have an undergrad degree, you have a master's degree.
- 9:11Speaker 1: You know, you move in your by yourself. You don't
- 9:14Speaker 1: really have that family support system. So no, it was
- 9:17Speaker 1: absolutely real and I just had to sacrifice Victoria. Did
- 9:23Speaker 1: she happy out with that answer? My mom would think
- 9:28Speaker 1: to my ask like, how how would I how would
- 9:31Speaker 1: I be able to um being part of the franchise
- 9:35Speaker 1: of are you just? Are you saying that bunk Nothing
- 9:39Speaker 1: Bunt Cakes is offering franchise opportunities? Absolutely? Um. You know,
- 9:45Speaker 1: I speak to a lot of potential new franchisees and
- 9:48Speaker 1: a lot of them are very intentional. I want to
- 9:50Speaker 1: open a Nothing bunt Cakes. That was not my story
- 9:53Speaker 1: of Victoria Nothing Bunt Cakes was not necessarily the plan.
- 9:58Speaker 1: The plan was to open a bakery and Tucker in
- 10:01Speaker 1: this new plaza that needed a bakery. So I was like, Okay,
- 10:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna bring a bakery to Tucker. We don't have
- 10:07Speaker 1: a bakery. I had a client that had a different
- 10:11Speaker 1: bakery franchise. So it was initially going to be something else,
- 10:15Speaker 1: and when that didn't work, the landlord is looking at me.
- 10:18Speaker 1: He's like, hey, Charlie, where's that bakery you're bringing. I'm scrambling,
- 10:21Speaker 1: you know, like, oh Jesus, I'm googling bakery franchise. You know.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Other things popped up, and then it morphed into nothing
- 10:30Speaker 1: bunch cakes. So I would say the plan was to
- 10:34Speaker 1: have a side business, but sometimes you have to have
- 10:37Speaker 1: to open it up just a little bit and be
- 10:39Speaker 1: receptive to the pivots and the changes and saying, Okay,
- 10:43Speaker 1: I thought it was going to be this, but this
- 10:45Speaker 1: is coming full circle for me, so let me embrace
- 10:48Speaker 1: this and make this work. What's the definition of a franchise?
- 10:53Speaker 1: I'm sorry, what's these? Question? Three? Not your last question?
- 11:06Speaker 1: I was saying, a great movie to final Netflix is
- 11:10Speaker 1: um the founder. I believe it's called McDonald's. So it
- 11:14Speaker 1: takes you through the whole franchise like life. So basically Victoria,
- 11:19Speaker 1: two women came together twenty plus years ago. They had
- 11:24Speaker 1: a great buntcake and great frosting. Right, they said, listen,
- 11:28Speaker 1: let's open up a little bakery. Let's have a store,
- 11:31Speaker 1: you have a business. It does well. You create, um,
- 11:35Speaker 1: a cookie cut type of thing. You know, you mastered
- 11:38Speaker 1: the recipes, and it's like, can I give somebody this
- 11:41Speaker 1: and can they do it without my expertise? And once
- 11:45Speaker 1: you prove the concept, and if you watch Shark Tank
- 11:49Speaker 1: a couple of episodes, you'll learn all this. Once you
- 11:51Speaker 1: prove that the concept can be done by anyone anywhere,
- 11:56Speaker 1: that's the birth of franchising, right. So okay, so they said, look,
- 12:02Speaker 1: we have the recipe, we have everything. We you know,
- 12:05Speaker 1: worked out the kinks, we know how many people you
- 12:07Speaker 1: should hire, we know you know what locations are do
- 12:11Speaker 1: well with this, and they kind of mapped it out.
- 12:13Speaker 1: They give you the blueprint, So you take the blueprint.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Where you buy the blueprint? Lets you buy the blueprint. Victory,
- 12:22Speaker 1: let me tell you something I've been baking since I
- 12:24Speaker 1: was ten years old. Really good. I'm sorry, Look, I
- 12:30Speaker 1: want to do this. I'm Victoria. I'm not I'm not
- 12:33Speaker 1: denying that Victory. First of all, that's what this show
- 12:35Speaker 1: was designed. Money Making Conversations master Class was to get
- 12:38Speaker 1: the community excited about speaking to people like Charlie because
- 12:42Speaker 1: they do exist. They do exist. And there they do
- 12:45Speaker 1: have uh stories, and her story has gravitated you and
- 12:48Speaker 1: hopefully motivates you to be a star. A star like
- 12:51Speaker 1: she said the bakery, you know, like I said, I'm
- 12:53Speaker 1: an award winning baker and I and I have no
- 12:56Speaker 1: desire to open the bakery. But you go to my timeline,
- 12:58Speaker 1: you think I'll baked, and the people are pounds everything
- 13:03Speaker 1: to look you eating something. And but but it's the passion.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I hear the passion in your voice. I think what
- 13:08Speaker 1: she's saying right now is that what is the plan?
- 13:10Speaker 1: You know what is the plan? And she speaks to
- 13:12Speaker 1: people all the time, and so no, your question. I
- 13:15Speaker 1: teach you about asking questions. Your curiosity is incredible, but
- 13:18Speaker 1: now it has to be put on paper. And once
- 13:20Speaker 1: you put it on paper, then the the emotional pushback happens.
- 13:25Speaker 1: You know, how do you make that dream happen? And
- 13:27Speaker 1: that's really where it all starts. You know, whether you
- 13:30Speaker 1: want to be a singer, whether you want to go
- 13:32Speaker 1: to college, they're always dreams, but there are when you
- 13:35Speaker 1: start creating application to that dream, that's when the struggle happens.
- 13:40Speaker 1: And when that struggle happens, how do you react to it?
- 13:42Speaker 1: What is your plan the pushback on there, because we
- 13:45Speaker 1: all have rainy days, we have rainy days and relationships,
- 13:48Speaker 1: we have rainy bads on job, and there were rainy days.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Doesn't necessarily mean rain It's just means difficulties. It means
- 13:54Speaker 1: when it's supposed to be sunshine's gloomy, and how do
- 13:58Speaker 1: you act doing gloom? And so this show Money Making
- 14:01Speaker 1: Conversations master Class that you're listening to, and Charlie's doing
- 14:04Speaker 1: an amazing you know me, I should be worried about her.
- 14:06Speaker 1: You know, she just brilliant sitting over here, just responding
- 14:10Speaker 1: so confidently and casually to these questions. And to have
- 14:13Speaker 1: a guest like that, she's in studio, she came in here,
- 14:15Speaker 1: she brought in some of her samples. It's to show confidence.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And I just want to thank you for calling in
- 14:21Speaker 1: and leave your number and your ZIP and your email
- 14:24Speaker 1: address so we can reach out to you, Okay, Victoria,
- 14:26Speaker 1: because we really want to continue that conversation. Plus I
- 14:28Speaker 1: want to send you one of my Money Making Conversation
- 14:31Speaker 1: guys to the success. All right, thank you so much,
- 14:34Speaker 1: And I I go to sleep with with this station
- 14:37Speaker 1: on like it's always on in my room and I
- 14:39Speaker 1: really find refuge and it so thank you so much,
- 14:41Speaker 1: Thank you, Victorian. Make sure leading information from me. We'll
- 14:46Speaker 1: be right back with more money Making Conversations Masterclass with
- 14:50Speaker 1: Rushan McDonald. Now, let's return to Money Making Conversations Masterclass
- 14:56Speaker 1: with Rushan McDonald's getting a little brain sending up in there.
- 15:01Speaker 1: We know the thing about it now. You you said
- 15:03Speaker 1: you were going in there. But I know we're about
- 15:05Speaker 1: to wrap this break up in a few minutes here,
- 15:06Speaker 1: but I want to ask you a couple of questions
- 15:08Speaker 1: for me there. You were going in there to open
- 15:10Speaker 1: a bakery at the side business, at the side business,
- 15:13Speaker 1: and you just say like that, okay, let me get
- 15:15Speaker 1: your history here now temple, okay, accounting c p A.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Where did the baking skills if there were none? There
- 15:26Speaker 1: were none, okay, Yeah, I used to just cut the
- 15:29Speaker 1: cookie roll, you know, like spray the pan and like
- 15:32Speaker 1: just put the little block of chocolate chip, don't want
- 15:35Speaker 1: it stick it in the oven. Yeah, that was the
- 15:38Speaker 1: extent of my baking skills. You know. Also, someone set
- 15:45Speaker 1: seven years ago you're going to own a bakery, I
- 15:47Speaker 1: would say, wow, interesting because I don't bank so so
- 15:52Speaker 1: so you in Tucker, George. You you but you're in
- 15:55Speaker 1: a visionary because you feel that you want to feel
- 15:57Speaker 1: a need. Okay, so walk us through that step of
- 16:01Speaker 1: going to the landlord telling them what you wanna do.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Did you have to have a plan? And the first
- 16:07Speaker 1: plan wasn't nothing, but talk about that, okay. So the
- 16:11Speaker 1: plaza was coming, great location, and Tucker, I need to
- 16:14Speaker 1: be a part of it. I'm driving by every day
- 16:16Speaker 1: going to my corporate job. So one day I took
- 16:20Speaker 1: a right and I found, you know, sign, rolled down
- 16:23Speaker 1: the number, called him, Hey, I have an idea for bakery.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Do you have any space available? Absolutely? How much space
- 16:29Speaker 1: do you need? I'm just talking about, you know, kind
- 16:32Speaker 1: of faking it, TiO, I made it, and so I
- 16:34Speaker 1: was kind of on the hook to bring a bakery.
- 16:38Speaker 1: So that is when the will started spending and I
- 16:41Speaker 1: was like, oh that fell through. What else can I do? Oh?
- 16:43Speaker 1: I was committed to bring in the bakery. Okay, okay,
- 16:48Speaker 1: you open in? When did you start this? Late fifteen?
- 16:55Speaker 1: Late fifteen we started communicating with the landlord. I'm at
- 16:59Speaker 1: den Or one night and I had nothing. Bunch cakes
- 17:02Speaker 1: in California at a cousin's birthday dinner and it was
- 17:06Speaker 1: the best cake I ever had, and I thought, Wow,
- 17:09Speaker 1: I gotta come back to l A to get this cake.
- 17:11Speaker 1: You know that the Yeah, it's moist, the cream cheese.
- 17:18Speaker 1: You know. So I had it, tasted it. I just
- 17:21Speaker 1: didn't know it was a franchise. I didn't know there
- 17:22Speaker 1: was one here in Georgia. I didn't know any of
- 17:25Speaker 1: that until someone mentioned it again and I said, oh,
- 17:28Speaker 1: let me google google nothing bunch Cake franchise. Boom came up.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I'm almost signing a deal with another bakery franchise. Okay,
- 17:38Speaker 1: so the spirit said, don't just see what nothing bunch
- 17:43Speaker 1: Cakes has to say. I emailed them. She replied back.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I told her what was happening about me with this
- 17:48Speaker 1: other franchise. She said, wait, don't you do it? Charlie.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Hear me out, and I heard her out and the
- 17:55Speaker 1: rest is history. You know. I canceled the deal with
- 17:58Speaker 1: the other bakery franchise, and when with nothing but the kicks?
- 18:02Speaker 1: So um so, why just off air? Where are black
- 18:06Speaker 1: women the fastest growing segment in entrepreneurship? From what I
- 18:11Speaker 1: see and all the amazing black women that I know,
- 18:15Speaker 1: I think our mothers have a lot to do with that.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I know my mother, Um, you know, she pushed her
- 18:21Speaker 1: girls to be what she was not able to accomplish,
- 18:25Speaker 1: you know, So it was just having that fierce you
- 18:29Speaker 1: know that, you know, amazing black role model of a
- 18:32Speaker 1: mother to say, you need to travel, you need to
- 18:36Speaker 1: go to college, you need to be better than me,
- 18:39Speaker 1: you need to do better than me. You know, the
- 18:41Speaker 1: school is your number one priority. Um, that just pushed
- 18:46Speaker 1: me to continue to see myself out of North Philly.
- 18:50Speaker 1: You know, Um, a lot of my friends didn't never
- 18:54Speaker 1: been out of North Philly, so they couldn't see themselves
- 18:57Speaker 1: living outside of North Philly, let alone you know, having
- 19:01Speaker 1: a business or going to college. So I think our
- 19:04Speaker 1: mothers are the backbones of two while we're so successful,
- 19:08Speaker 1: and we're very passionate women. I grew up with six
- 19:11Speaker 1: of them, so I know about the female passion. We
- 19:15Speaker 1: come back, we're gonna find out how big her bakery is,
- 19:18Speaker 1: the pros and cons of franchising, what to consider before franchise,
- 19:22Speaker 1: And she said, you know, she's about to sign another
- 19:24Speaker 1: local franchise location bakery. And then she sat down with
- 19:27Speaker 1: nothing but cake individuals and they said, hey, we're the
- 19:30Speaker 1: one and she's not looked back. If we're right back
- 19:33Speaker 1: with more Charlie, Sha bass, Charlie, you've got another phone
- 19:36Speaker 1: called Is that Tehran or Tehran Tarran? Is it Tarran
- 19:45Speaker 1: like the capital? Right? Okay. I appreciate you, my friend,
- 19:48Speaker 1: and I apologize. In my name is Roushan. You think
- 19:50Speaker 1: I would get everybody's name right? And I apologize, you know,
- 19:53Speaker 1: I apologize. Yeah, yeah, I say the same thing when
- 19:57Speaker 1: I get someone else's name. Well, what name I can't
- 20:01Speaker 1: get wrong? It's Charlie. It's Charlie. And Charlie's on the
- 20:03Speaker 1: show with me and we're talking about franchising. What's your
- 20:06Speaker 1: question today that you might want to ask me or her? Well,
- 20:10Speaker 1: I just wanted to, uh, you know, give give your
- 20:13Speaker 1: props um. I listened to w C okay often, and
- 20:18Speaker 1: I just was listening in on the conversation, and I
- 20:22Speaker 1: just wanted to say, you know, thank you all for
- 20:25Speaker 1: just supporting black owned businesses as well as uh, you know,
- 20:29Speaker 1: small businesses and on the whole. But black owned is
- 20:33Speaker 1: definitely uh respected, yea, yeah, what is your name? I'm sorry?
- 20:45Speaker 1: You know, I really appreciate the wrong because of the
- 20:47Speaker 1: fact that you know, when you when you're trying to
- 20:50Speaker 1: talk to people, there's fear and that, you know, especially
- 20:53Speaker 1: offering advices like what's the what's the scam? Because black
- 20:56Speaker 1: people have a natural you know, scam radar. You know
- 21:00Speaker 1: that there's another agenda here, and the agenda here is
- 21:02Speaker 1: just providing information, that's all and and basically what we're
- 21:06Speaker 1: having it's just a conversation and we we as allowing
- 21:10Speaker 1: you to listen in on our conversation that we might
- 21:12Speaker 1: have in a restaurant, that we might have, you know,
- 21:15Speaker 1: walking down the street, and these questions, like Victoria was
- 21:18Speaker 1: so exciting to hear you call in and say, I
- 21:20Speaker 1: really appreciate this conversation. It's what we want to hear.
- 21:23Speaker 1: That's the conversation you want to create. And the thing
- 21:26Speaker 1: I loved about Charlie's conversation was she was just a
- 21:29Speaker 1: business minded person that got into this and that's what
- 21:31Speaker 1: stops so many people. You didn't have to be a baker.
- 21:35Speaker 1: You just have to have the passion and the ability
- 21:37Speaker 1: to work hard to achieve your successes a franchise e.
- 21:41Speaker 1: That's what excites me about the conversation. What are your thoughts?
- 21:45Speaker 1: Absolutely well, you know, the journey, the journey. Uh sometimes
- 21:49Speaker 1: you know, in the beginning is the shaky road, you know,
- 21:53Speaker 1: and it takes you know, it takes that vision to
- 21:59Speaker 1: be uh ignited. And like you said, you know, fears
- 22:02Speaker 1: is that thing that stops most people's ideas and visions
- 22:07Speaker 1: and goals because they don't really know what they're stepping into.
- 22:11Speaker 1: And as I was hearing her story and uh stories
- 22:14Speaker 1: before hers, um, you know, I definitely related and uh
- 22:19Speaker 1: you know again, UM, I just you know, I just
- 22:22Speaker 1: appreciated just hearing everyone's journey to where they are now.
- 22:27Speaker 1: And um, and I know that you know, in the future,
- 22:30Speaker 1: I know, I'm quite sure there's you know, there is
- 22:33Speaker 1: a long term goals. You know, this is you know,
- 22:37Speaker 1: other goals that Yeah. But but as far as what
- 22:39Speaker 1: I've heard, you know, I definitely um related to you
- 22:45Speaker 1: because she has a little announcement to tell us. And
- 22:47Speaker 1: thank you for calling show. We'll be right back with
- 22:49Speaker 1: more Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rushan McDonald. Now, let's
- 22:54Speaker 1: return to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashan McDonald. How
- 22:59Speaker 1: you tell In me off air, he was talking about
- 23:01Speaker 1: long term goal was short term goal? Now, short term
- 23:04Speaker 1: goal was just to get a place open and bakery
- 23:07Speaker 1: with a name on it. There was repsible. Now you
- 23:10Speaker 1: told me, all fair, what else is about to happen
- 23:12Speaker 1: in your life as an entrepreneur as a franchise e.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Well you now are Sean. I let my cp A
- 23:19Speaker 1: Licensed Labs and so I said, you know what, County,
- 23:23Speaker 1: That's not my thing anymore. This is my thing now.
- 23:26Speaker 1: So now how can I transition to this to legacy
- 23:31Speaker 1: to open another one? Yeah? So, um, thank god I
- 23:36Speaker 1: just got my approval a couple of weeks ago. I
- 23:38Speaker 1: was nervous, just like, oh, I hope I could announce
- 23:40Speaker 1: on the show. But it was a true blessing and
- 23:42Speaker 1: a lot of hard work. You know, I definitely deserved it. Um.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Tucker is four and a half years old now, so
- 23:49Speaker 1: I kind of worked through the kinks of being a
- 23:53Speaker 1: small business entrepreneur to, you know, now be confident to
- 23:57Speaker 1: open another one. Now was the time being on that opening.
- 24:01Speaker 1: So the territory is central Atlanta. Hey, Atlanta? We coming? Um,
- 24:07Speaker 1: you know, I was like, I mean where is in Atlanta?
- 24:10Speaker 1: You know? So Tucker was the closest location to the
- 24:12Speaker 1: city of Atlanta, so that our second baby will be
- 24:16Speaker 1: in the city. We're going to cover everything from North
- 24:19Speaker 1: Shrewood Hills to downtown. So we got Atlanta covered. Well.
- 24:26Speaker 1: You gotta know you got your third phone car Thomas.
- 24:28Speaker 1: How you doing, Thomas, Charlie's here long with Rashan McDonald.
- 24:33Speaker 1: What's your question? I just want to say good even
- 24:36Speaker 1: to both of you. Am an avid listener. You want
- 24:38Speaker 1: to commend Charlie the system before CPR, just for all
- 24:43Speaker 1: that you're doing me being a business owner, myself a
- 24:48Speaker 1: new a fairly new business owner. Um the want that
- 24:51Speaker 1: you talked about, uh, Charlie, the pivot and you know,
- 24:55Speaker 1: giving that you have an accounting background, want something totally
- 24:58Speaker 1: unrelated to what you were doing, and and the thing
- 25:01Speaker 1: that I find to be true and you sound of
- 25:03Speaker 1: a similar nature. But God, I commend you, commend you,
- 25:08Speaker 1: commend you. I love her Son for this platform giving
- 25:12Speaker 1: others to come on here to learn, quire, share, continue
- 25:17Speaker 1: to build an uplift each other. And like ra Shan
- 25:20Speaker 1: talking about earlier, that fear, I too know. I've wrestled
- 25:23Speaker 1: with it for years, but by the grace of God,
- 25:26Speaker 1: last year I pushed through myself. So I can go
- 25:29Speaker 1: on and on. But I won't just keep it short.
- 25:31Speaker 1: But I just want to commend you. I'm gonna make
- 25:33Speaker 1: I eat it nothing nothing but cakes um every now
- 25:38Speaker 1: and again. I was first introduced to it about three
- 25:41Speaker 1: years ago at a corporate function, and I do make
- 25:43Speaker 1: it a point to go there. Now that I know
- 25:46Speaker 1: that you have a location in Tucker, I'm gonna make
- 25:49Speaker 1: it a point specifically to come to see your location.
- 25:54Speaker 1: And congratulations to thank you. I just wish you well
- 25:58Speaker 1: to much success on your current a as well as
- 26:00Speaker 1: your new endeavors you're about to embark up on. Thank you.
- 26:02Speaker 1: I appreciate you so much, Thank you so much. Well,
- 26:06Speaker 1: you know this is the childish of bad show. She's
- 26:09Speaker 1: my co host or money making Conversation Mouse to class
- 26:12Speaker 1: and Charlie um the second location. Yes, so we're just
- 26:17Speaker 1: working through the l o I. And you know, for
- 26:20Speaker 1: those of you who are thinking about owning a business
- 26:24Speaker 1: having a brick and mortar actual storefront, an l o
- 26:28Speaker 1: I is a lease of intent. So before you have
- 26:32Speaker 1: a lease for space, you negotiate kind of like the upfront.
- 26:38Speaker 1: How much am I going to pay per square foot?
- 26:40Speaker 1: How much is this? How much is that? How long
- 26:43Speaker 1: will the least term be? What do you cover? What
- 26:45Speaker 1: do I cover, you know, so they're gonna pay the exactly.
- 26:49Speaker 1: So we got really lucky with Tucker because it was
- 26:52Speaker 1: a brand new construction, brand new facility, brand new plaza,
- 26:56Speaker 1: brand new space. The timing was right because the unit
- 27:00Speaker 1: was not built out yet, so we were able to
- 27:03Speaker 1: work with my contractors and my landlord and do everything
- 27:07Speaker 1: one time. You know, a lot of times you're working
- 27:09Speaker 1: with the structure and you know your your architects says, no,
- 27:13Speaker 1: the thinks should be up over here, so now you
- 27:15Speaker 1: gotta dig up the cement, move the pipes, you know.
- 27:18Speaker 1: So we were able to save a lot of money
- 27:21Speaker 1: just by working together from the very beginning and getting
- 27:24Speaker 1: everything built out the way that it was required. So
- 27:27Speaker 1: I was I don't think that. I know that's not
- 27:30Speaker 1: going to be the case for the second one. It's
- 27:32Speaker 1: an existing structure for the space that I would like
- 27:35Speaker 1: to hopefully UM move into. It's off of more Land.
- 27:39Speaker 1: It's a really crazy, busy plaza. But I think nothing
- 27:43Speaker 1: but cakes can hold our Now you delivered to my offer.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Did how are you gonna do that? Because you like
- 27:50Speaker 1: that personal touch. You'd like to be on the front
- 27:52Speaker 1: line of meeting your customers, like that you know, and
- 27:54Speaker 1: I still will. I just won't be able to do
- 27:56Speaker 1: all of them, you know. Um, you absolute really need
- 28:00Speaker 1: a full team to help me be completely successful. I
- 28:03Speaker 1: think I am best at building relationships marketing. That's my
- 28:08Speaker 1: new job. I'm out the decayed Chambers of Commerce. I'm
- 28:11Speaker 1: a member there. I'm a member of my Tucker and
- 28:13Speaker 1: Business Association. I'm out planning the seeds, you know, so
- 28:18Speaker 1: when they start to grow, the business can grow. Um.
- 28:22Speaker 1: And you just gotta know which you're what you're good at,
- 28:24Speaker 1: and when you're not good at. I've met other business
- 28:26Speaker 1: owners who are not people people, you know, so they
- 28:31Speaker 1: hire other people to do that for them. It's a gift.
- 28:35Speaker 1: It's a gift, and I'm thankful for it. And I'm
- 28:38Speaker 1: um thankful to be in the position to be able
- 28:40Speaker 1: to build those relationships because a lot of times businesses
- 28:43Speaker 1: come to communities and they take take take from the community,
- 28:46Speaker 1: and they don't give back to the community. So it's
- 28:48Speaker 1: very important to me to um give back to the
- 28:51Speaker 1: community that I live in. I'm still a resident of
- 28:54Speaker 1: Tucker or the beauty of our conference. First of all,
- 28:56Speaker 1: finally got you in here. You are amazing, not only amazing.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Just your story is just special and if it fits
- 29:03Speaker 1: so many things that I talked about every week, and
- 29:05Speaker 1: the fact that you're opening another location, and and the
- 29:08Speaker 1: fact that you're not a train baker, the fact that
- 29:11Speaker 1: you just saw an opportunity, did your research and that's why.
- 29:15Speaker 1: And then overcame the fear of people, don't you don't
- 29:17Speaker 1: do that? While you why are you doing something you
- 29:19Speaker 1: don't do? That's what just show money making, money, money
- 29:22Speaker 1: Making master money Making Conversations master Classes all about. And
- 29:24Speaker 1: I want to thank you for coming on the show
- 29:26Speaker 1: and thank you for the next together and uh putting
- 29:31Speaker 1: on social media before we eat. We see you next week.
- 29:33Speaker 1: This Roshan McDonald. I'm the host of Money Making Conversations
