- 0:31Speaker 1: in studio with me um. I wanted to bring him
- 0:34Speaker 1: back because guess what we was a movie we did together.
- 0:38Speaker 1: He was starting and I was excutive producing it. It
- 0:41Speaker 1: was called Misguy Behavior, which was a bully movie, you know,
- 0:44Speaker 1: bringing awareness about bullying, how it can be, it can
- 0:48Speaker 1: be circulating and what they call a middle class family
- 0:50Speaker 1: lifestyle and they're not aware of it. But it also
- 0:53Speaker 1: shows a lot of different versions of bullying, from young
- 0:56Speaker 1: ladies to uh a suicidal situation, how righting right in
- 1:01Speaker 1: the front of teachers and principal bullying is going on
- 1:05Speaker 1: and they don't even know about it. What attracted you
- 1:07Speaker 1: to the movie. Well, you know, um, I got bullied,
- 1:11Speaker 1: you know, and if you if you ever gotten bullied,
- 1:16Speaker 1: it sticks with you probably until you die. I had
- 1:19Speaker 1: a guy in my neighborhood. I grew up in d
- 1:21Speaker 1: C and in a in a complex called Mayfair, but
- 1:24Speaker 1: right across the street was Parkside, which was one of
- 1:26Speaker 1: the toughest projects in d C. And um, it was
- 1:30Speaker 1: several guys, but there was one kid who just named Levi,
- 1:33Speaker 1: who just and all my friends know about Levi, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 1: and and he just had me. I was just terrified.
- 1:38Speaker 1: He was He was a tough kid. And I remember,
- 1:41Speaker 1: you know, I was turning like thirteen fourteen. I was like, man,
- 1:46Speaker 1: I got I gotta fight fight Levi back and I
- 1:49Speaker 1: was like, man, I'm gonna have a girlfriend and maybe
- 1:51Speaker 1: I'll be driving one day just stopped me and take
- 1:53Speaker 1: my car. And you know, I was just terrified. I mean,
- 1:56Speaker 1: I was a couple of guys in the neighbor I
- 1:57Speaker 1: was terrified. So, you know, I mean remember being at
- 2:00Speaker 1: a girl invite me to a party and she said, Hey,
- 2:02Speaker 1: we're having a party, come on over. And uh. It
- 2:05Speaker 1: was right on the outskirts of a park, side when
- 2:08Speaker 1: the departments as opposed to the houses which were in
- 2:10Speaker 1: the interior. So I went there and I was having
- 2:12Speaker 1: a great time, and then LEVI walked in, Man, and
- 2:15Speaker 1: he beat me off the couch and I'm not talking
- 2:18Speaker 1: about the smack and like he punched me in my face,
- 2:21Speaker 1: off the couch, out the door, down the steps. And
- 2:23Speaker 1: I never hit him back. I was just terrified of him.
- 2:25Speaker 1: And finally somewhere in a year, within that year, I
- 2:29Speaker 1: had fought him back, and he turned into a little sissy,
- 2:32Speaker 1: you know when he called sissy's back then. But I
- 2:35Speaker 1: got the nerve, you know. But it's that that that
- 2:37Speaker 1: story that scars stayed with me. And so when I
- 2:40Speaker 1: read the script, I said, Man, I want to be
- 2:42Speaker 1: a part of this because I want to talk about
- 2:44Speaker 1: bullying because it's real today. I think the schools are
- 2:47Speaker 1: doing a better job because you know, back in our day, man,
- 2:49Speaker 1: you just got your butt whipped. Hey, um, you just
- 2:52Speaker 1: got your butt whipped, and nobody did anything. Story when
- 2:56Speaker 1: I was in the third grade, and it was like
- 3:00Speaker 1: j Scott in Houston in fifth and I remember every
- 3:05Speaker 1: day I come down that street, he was waiting to
- 3:06Speaker 1: pat me down, like like he was a police officer.
- 3:08Speaker 1: He patted me down, and I would I would like,
- 3:11Speaker 1: I could not understand why this kid was waiting on
- 3:14Speaker 1: me every day, every day, patting me down, and that
- 3:16Speaker 1: just that story stays with me. And that's where I
- 3:19Speaker 1: could it's and I could see him coming, and I
- 3:21Speaker 1: went around this way where he always he was waiting on.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I could not avoid this kid. He was always right
- 3:28Speaker 1: where I had to get home fifteen bangs. And the thing,
- 3:31Speaker 1: the thing that I think I want people out there
- 3:32Speaker 1: to understand is that we're in our forties and fifties
- 3:36Speaker 1: and sixties now and I still feel like if Levi
- 3:38Speaker 1: was around, I would want to beat his butt, you know,
- 3:41Speaker 1: psychological you know the thing I would one of those
- 3:43Speaker 1: why and why? And then what the fact that bullying,
- 3:48Speaker 1: that being being a bully didn't have on the rest
- 3:50Speaker 1: of his life, he didn't have on his kids. Because
- 3:53Speaker 1: in the movie we see a scene where the against
- 3:57Speaker 1: the kid who was doing the bullying. He's being terrorized. Yes,
- 4:02Speaker 1: so so what happened? What happens with you know, a
- 4:06Speaker 1: kid like Levi? He ended up dying, probably out in
- 4:09Speaker 1: the streets. But if you take a kid like me,
- 4:12Speaker 1: I began bullying kids that were maybe weakened in me.
- 4:16Speaker 1: And it's it's in psychiatry. It's called transference, where you
- 4:20Speaker 1: kind of transfer, you know, what happens to you to
- 4:23Speaker 1: other people or other you know. And and I had
- 4:25Speaker 1: to catch myself. And I was telling you, you know,
- 4:27Speaker 1: one of my friends about raising my youngest son, Clifton
- 4:29Speaker 1: the third, who is now six ft six. But uh,
- 4:33Speaker 1: and I can't. I can't beat him now. I had
- 4:35Speaker 1: boxed with him. They told me apart, but I remember
- 4:38Speaker 1: him being if all the other kids went to play
- 4:41Speaker 1: at the swings, Clifton went to the pool somewhere and
- 4:43Speaker 1: I couldn't find it. And you know when I grew up,
- 4:45Speaker 1: when they gave you that to put that spanking and
- 4:47Speaker 1: put that that belt on your butt. And one of
- 4:49Speaker 1: my my mentor came to me and said, man, you
- 4:51Speaker 1: gotta stop spanking him. Man, I gotta start talking to him. No,
- 4:54Speaker 1: nobody talked to me. But I realized that I was
- 4:58Speaker 1: taking the wrong role, in the wrong approach with him,
- 5:01Speaker 1: as opposed to nurturing his differences and uh, his psychological creativity.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Um and and it's just the way we were raised.
- 5:09Speaker 1: So a lot of that was always physical And I
- 5:11Speaker 1: think a lot of times when you like, when you
- 5:13Speaker 1: see a movie like Miss Guy The Behavior, you see
- 5:15Speaker 1: this kid bullying another kid, and then when he gets home,
- 5:18Speaker 1: his daddy, who's stronger than him, is bullying him. And
- 5:21Speaker 1: if we could see more, we might see somebody bullying
- 5:23Speaker 1: his dad at work. And that's something and that because
- 5:26Speaker 1: they're taking an emotional pain and then turned into physical
- 5:30Speaker 1: drama for somebody else. The thing about it that I
- 5:33Speaker 1: love this movie or project about is that not only
- 5:37Speaker 1: is a relatable but the acting was fantastic and then
- 5:40Speaker 1: they're directing this fantastic and it and it's an independent
- 5:43Speaker 1: project that doesn't look like an independent projects. You've done
- 5:46Speaker 1: your share of major movies and your share of independence.
- 5:50Speaker 1: What are your thoughts and coming into an independent project
- 5:52Speaker 1: like Miss Guy to Behavior. Well, you know, Uh, Khalil
- 5:55Speaker 1: Kine and our friends and I know Khalil you know,
- 5:59Speaker 1: was director and he's just you know, just so competent
- 6:03Speaker 1: because he's he's detail oriented. Dorrismargato I know from working
- 6:07Speaker 1: around uh. And then Sharon was you know, on board
- 6:10Speaker 1: as producer and we all have the same kind of
- 6:13Speaker 1: work ethic and then and then really the real bottom
- 6:16Speaker 1: line is the subject matter, you know, because what happens
- 6:19Speaker 1: with actors is that if you read a lot of scripts,
- 6:21Speaker 1: you know, and and and it's one that jumps out
- 6:24Speaker 1: at you, you're like, you know, I'm not really worried
- 6:26Speaker 1: about the money. It's like, let's let's go do the work,
- 6:28Speaker 1: you know. And when I saw it, I was so
- 6:29Speaker 1: proud to be a part of it because it speaks
- 6:32Speaker 1: to something and I think we need to address in
- 6:35Speaker 1: this culture. Because again, a young girl committed suicide last week.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I think she was nine from because she has a
- 6:41Speaker 1: she had a white friend and and and I don't
- 6:45Speaker 1: know if it was black kids, but some of the
- 6:46Speaker 1: kids were calling her out of her name and saying,
- 6:49Speaker 1: you're dealing with that white boy and all that crazy stuff.
- 6:51Speaker 1: And she internalized it and she killed herself nine years old,
- 6:54Speaker 1: nine years old. And and at the end of the day,
- 6:57Speaker 1: I think, I don't know if bullies understand the impact
- 7:00Speaker 1: the bullying, but parents and teachers and mentors and and
- 7:04Speaker 1: and and coaches, we have to understand what bully does.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Bullying does to a child's mind. It makes them scared,
- 7:10Speaker 1: It makes them tense, it makes them, agitates them, It
- 7:14Speaker 1: takes away their self esteem, all of that stuff. I
- 7:16Speaker 1: was talking to Call, you know, the director of the
- 7:18Speaker 1: movie missed guy to behavior. Then I said, Car, I'm sorry.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Carl Paine directed Leil Kane was the start with Khalil
- 7:23Speaker 1: is directing to now. So that's why I didn't differ
- 7:26Speaker 1: from that. Carl Paine, who's one of the best ever.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I mean, excuse me, call if you heard that. But
- 7:33Speaker 1: you know, um, because it was a while ago, you know,
- 7:36Speaker 1: and I am getting little older, you know, I'm taking
- 7:38Speaker 1: my brain pill. No, but but they both are just
- 7:42Speaker 1: Carl Payne, you know, we did to play together, but
- 7:44Speaker 1: we came up in the in the business in the
- 7:46Speaker 1: l A. When I say exquisitely uh detail oriented, it's
- 7:50Speaker 1: just crazy. But the thing the body that he said
- 7:52Speaker 1: something what I interviewed. If you said, Rashane, let's let's
- 7:55Speaker 1: let's be real, he said, when we grew up, you
- 7:58Speaker 1: bullied and it just stayed that moment. Bully stayed in.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Your moments will leave our stayed in the street, your
- 8:04Speaker 1: moment under that party stayed there. Not today. If that happened,
- 8:07Speaker 1: you have been videotaped. You've been videotaped. They uploaded it
- 8:11Speaker 1: on social media and you have to live with that
- 8:13Speaker 1: because they don't take things down on social media, off
- 8:17Speaker 1: the internet, and that causes even more embarrassment. And I
- 8:20Speaker 1: think that's that is what pushes kids over the edge,
- 8:23Speaker 1: and that when he said that, it really made a
- 8:25Speaker 1: big difference because we're just talking about our stories, these
- 8:29Speaker 1: kids and adults. Let's not let's not forget that dally
- 8:33Speaker 1: a bullying translate to adults who are too There's some
- 8:36Speaker 1: adults out there being bullied by male and female situations
- 8:40Speaker 1: and and they call it. Somebody call it domestic violence.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Somebody colleges friend partnership violence. But there's bullying going on.
- 8:48Speaker 1: And bullying doesn't have to not have to be physical.
- 8:50Speaker 1: It could be mental, it could be social. You could
- 8:53Speaker 1: be ostracized, somebody saying we don't want you over here,
- 8:56Speaker 1: and that that that child is trying to figure out why.
- 8:59Speaker 1: That's the amazing part of this movie, missed guy to behavior.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I know you and I both been being a part
- 9:04Speaker 1: of it, probably be a part of it. But I
- 9:06Speaker 1: want to come back and talk about that career because
- 9:09Speaker 1: the thing about this is that I want to do
- 9:10Speaker 1: one break about the movie. The second break is that
- 9:13Speaker 1: he has one of those faces you go, I know
- 9:15Speaker 1: that dude, I know that dude. He but he's one
- 9:19Speaker 1: of my favorite shows. One of my favorite shows, Black
- 9:22Speaker 1: Lightning on c W. I saw him get shot. He's
- 9:25Speaker 1: come back. He died twice. I don't understand how black
- 9:29Speaker 1: Man keep dying on TV and coming back. We were
- 9:32Speaker 1: back with more. Clifton Pole, my man, one of the
- 9:34Speaker 1: great actors in Hollywood. Stay out of the d C.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Nothing wrong with being successful, my friends, especially when you're
- 9:41Speaker 1: sitting next to success. I want to making conversations. Hi,
- 9:45Speaker 1: this is Sean mcgonald. I'm back Uh in studio, my man,
- 9:48Speaker 1: Clifton Pole. If you are unfamiliar with his work, more
- 9:51Speaker 1: than a hundred If I said a hundred films, TV shows,
- 9:55Speaker 1: some of these credits. You know, Minutes to Society, Wow,
- 9:59Speaker 1: scary movie from a standpoint of an urbans prospective. Did
- 10:02Speaker 1: President is one of my favorite movies? Why Do Foods?
- 10:05Speaker 1: Fall In Love? Rush Hour, Next Friday? That was a
- 10:08Speaker 1: groundbreaker with ice q uh and many many more movies
- 10:13Speaker 1: like There for Uh, You've done You've done plays? Correct plays? Uh?
- 10:17Speaker 1: Play Dr King and Selma, Lord Selma. You know I
- 10:20Speaker 1: do television. We sha any YPD Blue Uh instant, I've
- 10:26Speaker 1: done almost all the television shows. Uh did Hawaifi five
- 10:29Speaker 1: oh a couple of weeks ago with Luke Gossip and
- 10:31Speaker 1: uh Gladys Knight and Sean McBride and Shot actually wrote
- 10:35Speaker 1: the episode. You know, I just I've just been a
- 10:37Speaker 1: working actor, man. And I never I never had a plan.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I like I tell when I do, I do a
- 10:43Speaker 1: seminar called Behind the Lens where I talk about every
- 10:46Speaker 1: aspect of the business and and talk about all the
- 10:48Speaker 1: things that nobody taught me, you know. Um, and I
- 10:53Speaker 1: just want to be a football player, man. And I
- 10:55Speaker 1: don't know how I became an actor. Um uh, I know,
- 10:58Speaker 1: I know, I don't know. If you know my net
- 11:00Speaker 1: you James Brown's a sportscaster, so yeah, yeah, CEB NFL
- 11:05Speaker 1: now and so you know j B was an All
- 11:07Speaker 1: American basketball star. So I was like, man, and he
- 11:10Speaker 1: was such a great guys, always sharp, like you're, always
- 11:12Speaker 1: personable and always nice to people. And I ended up
- 11:16Speaker 1: playing in the neighborhood and I was fast, and I
- 11:18Speaker 1: ended up going to the MATHA and unfortunately, I just
- 11:21Speaker 1: I didn't I never grew and I got in trouble
- 11:24Speaker 1: hanging out with my wife six six, my son's six six,
- 11:26Speaker 1: and I stayed at like ten and uh, but you know,
- 11:30Speaker 1: since I didn't play football, I transferred from De Matha
- 11:33Speaker 1: and went to St. Anthony's and and let's tell you
- 11:35Speaker 1: something about the Matha. It's like a sports football basketball.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I mean, if you google the Matha, google De Matha.
- 11:44Speaker 1: And then I ended up going to St. Anthony's and
- 11:46Speaker 1: John Thompson was the basketball coach, so I couldn't play basketball.
- 11:49Speaker 1: So basically I saw a play. I saw a play
- 11:52Speaker 1: and I said, man, I just do the play, just
- 11:54Speaker 1: messing around because you know, back in my day, I
- 11:56Speaker 1: was so chocolate. I couldn't get any girls. I was like, man,
- 11:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna do to play. Maybe I might be a
- 12:00Speaker 1: girl into play, you know. And then I did the
- 12:02Speaker 1: play and I heard about a program and then I
- 12:04Speaker 1: got into the program. But I didn't go to go
- 12:06Speaker 1: to the program. I just wrote up with one of
- 12:07Speaker 1: my partners, and they kept asking me to audition for
- 12:10Speaker 1: the program, the acting program. I was like, no, I'm
- 12:12Speaker 1: not worried. I'm not. But then they finally convinced me
- 12:15Speaker 1: and they put me in the program and I stayed
- 12:16Speaker 1: with it, and then it just you know, once I
- 12:18Speaker 1: got to college, and I came to New York and
- 12:21Speaker 1: seventy nine from seventy eighty nine, and then um, I
- 12:24Speaker 1: got to California, and I just applied all the stuff
- 12:27Speaker 1: that I learned all over over those twenty years and
- 12:30Speaker 1: was just ready to go and prepared when I got there.
- 12:33Speaker 1: We used the thing about it. When I look at
- 12:34Speaker 1: a career like yours people, I would tell people, if
- 12:38Speaker 1: you ever dream, follow it, If I ever dream you're
- 12:40Speaker 1: gonna have there, You're gonna have to be uncomfortable. And
- 12:43Speaker 1: then there's no guarantees, because I know when you went
- 12:45Speaker 1: to l A there were no guarantees and there were
- 12:47Speaker 1: no immediate returns on your investment. How did you keep
- 12:51Speaker 1: moving forward? How did you keep moving for even when
- 12:54Speaker 1: you got one shot didn't mean that second shot came
- 12:57Speaker 1: equally as fast. Yeah, I think, um M. In order
- 13:01Speaker 1: to answer that question, I gotta go back to the
- 13:03Speaker 1: New York days when Denzel and Sam and Angela Bassett
- 13:07Speaker 1: and all of us were poor actors. And in the
- 13:10Speaker 1: morning you got up and you took your picture and resume,
- 13:13Speaker 1: you stapled it. Say you get up at seven you
- 13:15Speaker 1: stay with your pitching resume. You catch the train downtown
- 13:19Speaker 1: or the bus, and you might have ten dollars for
- 13:22Speaker 1: the whole day. You stop an equity office, you walk
- 13:24Speaker 1: the west side during the day, you walk the east
- 13:26Speaker 1: side and eating and drop your pictures off. And then
- 13:29Speaker 1: you might drop off a hundred fifty pictures and never
- 13:31Speaker 1: get a call. So but you keep going because you're
- 13:35Speaker 1: just determined. So by the time I got to Hollywood
- 13:37Speaker 1: and eighty nine, I was already in a headset that
- 13:41Speaker 1: nothing's gonna stop me. I'm gonna keep on going because
- 13:44Speaker 1: at some point somebody is gonna get me a shot.
- 13:46Speaker 1: And one of my buddies, his grandmother, used to say,
- 13:48Speaker 1: as steady drop breaks the rock, you know. So I
- 13:51Speaker 1: was always and so so when I say to young people,
- 13:54Speaker 1: inspect me to all the people listening to young people listening,
- 13:57Speaker 1: preparation versus opportunity. And I always worked harder because I
- 14:01Speaker 1: was the worst act in my program, so I had
- 14:03Speaker 1: to outwork everybody. And I was always prepared, so if
- 14:07Speaker 1: somebody else came in and read off the page, I
- 14:09Speaker 1: had my memorize and I did a performance in the room,
- 14:12Speaker 1: and I just had my father instilled in me. All
- 14:16Speaker 1: you need is faith size of a mustancy. That's all
- 14:19Speaker 1: you need. And you did it and I did it. Okay.
- 14:21Speaker 1: So so you you say Rock was basically your first
- 14:24Speaker 1: breakthrough project Rock Rock, Well, I would say house Party.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I did one scene. I had one scene a house party,
- 14:31Speaker 1: and uh, and then I got the call to come
- 14:33Speaker 1: audition for uh Minister Society. And then right around there
- 14:39Speaker 1: I got to call the audition for Rock. But but
- 14:42Speaker 1: in Minister helped a lot. Now let's talk about Ministers side,
- 14:47Speaker 1: because it's it was it was an urban um soft central. Uh.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I mean, it's some scenes in there, man, when the
- 14:53Speaker 1: kid was reaching for that gun and got shot and
- 14:55Speaker 1: the next thing you know, he's in the emergency wing.
- 14:58Speaker 1: It's one of one of those uh, the Huge brothers, right,
- 15:00Speaker 1: the Huge they did that. That was I think that
- 15:03Speaker 1: was the first movie. And so when you did, when
- 15:06Speaker 1: you was invited to do a project like that, that
- 15:08Speaker 1: was so real? How did that affect you? You know,
- 15:12Speaker 1: I gotta be honest with you, I've never been invited
- 15:14Speaker 1: to you know, in the early days anywhere audition, Tupac
- 15:18Speaker 1: got into a fight with the Hughes brothers and too
- 15:21Speaker 1: Short didn't want to. I didn't want to have a
- 15:24Speaker 1: lot of lines. And I was at a party somebody said, man,
- 15:27Speaker 1: they're looking for this new character. In minutes, somebody played
- 15:30Speaker 1: this guy named Chauncey. I was like, man, well who
- 15:32Speaker 1: I called? It is the same Castle director, the casting
- 15:34Speaker 1: rock and I just found myself there and a stupid
- 15:39Speaker 1: and they put me in it. And you know, I
- 15:43Speaker 1: knew it was gonna be a special movie. But sometimes
- 15:46Speaker 1: when you shoot a movie, you might shoot the ending
- 15:48Speaker 1: and getting. But I said, if this movie catches on,
- 15:52Speaker 1: because it was I mean, we were deep in the
- 15:54Speaker 1: hood with Sean. You couldn't walk to your car, you know.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I had to walk to my car with this cat
- 15:59Speaker 1: name sheen Gun. And it was just really and then
- 16:02Speaker 1: some days the hood guys were shut to set down.
- 16:04Speaker 1: But I knew that we that the Hughes brothers and
- 16:07Speaker 1: Lorenz and Tyring and the whole production staff was making
- 16:10Speaker 1: something special. And when it came out and hit like
- 16:12Speaker 1: a like a like a whirlwind, yeah, because that that
- 16:17Speaker 1: was the time when you know, when a lot of
- 16:19Speaker 1: uh violence with the theaters and then so black movies
- 16:22Speaker 1: really couldn't get their play because somehow people fighting in
- 16:25Speaker 1: the seats and all that stuff, and and it gave
- 16:27Speaker 1: a bad rap for movies like that. And but if
- 16:30Speaker 1: you have time, it's one of those movies you need
- 16:32Speaker 1: to see because it's timeless, just like Dead President. The
- 16:36Speaker 1: President is another one um dead Presidents. They asked me
- 16:40Speaker 1: to come in and read for Spider and Cowboys. Spider
- 16:44Speaker 1: had like a half of line and Cowboy. I wasn't Cowboy,
- 16:47Speaker 1: and and that way I got that movie is I
- 16:51Speaker 1: was so broke. I had a wool suit. It was
- 16:54Speaker 1: ninety nine point nine degrees outside, and I stopped at
- 16:57Speaker 1: art Vark and got me a dob hat. But I
- 17:00Speaker 1: stood up. I stayed up all night long, and I
- 17:03Speaker 1: and I memorized Cutty. And I called my manager and
- 17:08Speaker 1: she's my agent managers, and she said, well, they have
- 17:10Speaker 1: a star name for Cutty. So I did. Cowboy had
- 17:12Speaker 1: a cowboy hat, I had a patch for Spider, and
- 17:14Speaker 1: I had my job hat with my wool suit. I
- 17:17Speaker 1: sweated out for Cutty. And I begged the who you
- 17:19Speaker 1: was brothers to let me read and they said, dude,
- 17:21Speaker 1: we got a star name. I said, just let me
- 17:23Speaker 1: read him. Man uh, And you know they twined, so
- 17:25Speaker 1: you can't tell who he's talking about. So I said,
- 17:27Speaker 1: just let me let me read man. He said, well
- 17:29Speaker 1: you already asked Albert. I was like, well, Alan, can
- 17:32Speaker 1: I read? He said, Cliff, we gotta start name. I said,
- 17:34Speaker 1: just let me read it, and I memorized, and they
- 17:36Speaker 1: finally let me read it. I said, hey, baby girl,
- 17:38Speaker 1: and did the whole thing, and they said, you know what,
- 17:40Speaker 1: You're gonna be cutty, We'll call you. You know. So
- 17:43Speaker 1: part of that that that story is is I was
- 17:45Speaker 1: just so prepared, and I knew that was gonna be
- 17:48Speaker 1: a crazy special movie because right after minutes, you know,
- 17:52Speaker 1: with Chris Tucker and Rands again and and and Terence
- 17:56Speaker 1: Howard hit Man and the music, that thing was special.
- 17:59Speaker 1: It was special. Now, I gotta go back to my
- 18:01Speaker 1: last statement. I saw you perform, uh Dr Marl Luther King,
- 18:06Speaker 1: and I saw that I saw the movie. Okay, So
- 18:10Speaker 1: how does that opportunity present itself to you? Because it's
- 18:14Speaker 1: really different from your all the character to all tough guys.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Now you now you basically playing an emotional healer. Yeah. Well,
- 18:20Speaker 1: you know it's it's always fun like your favorite show
- 18:23Speaker 1: Black Lightning, when I'm playing a pastor uh, and it's
- 18:26Speaker 1: so funny. I just did an episode of American Soul
- 18:29Speaker 1: and it looks good. Brother, that looks good. And the
- 18:34Speaker 1: producer said, I've only seen this guy played pastors. Can
- 18:37Speaker 1: he play a tough guy? So I was like, yes,
- 18:40Speaker 1: thank you. Somebody finally realized that I played more than
- 18:42Speaker 1: tough guys. I played doctors, lawyers, you know, I play everything.
- 18:45Speaker 1: But Ruben Cannon, who put me in Why the Foods
- 18:48Speaker 1: Fall in Love? And he put me in Buffalo Soldiers,
- 18:50Speaker 1: and he put me in Women Are Loosed. And I
- 18:53Speaker 1: got a call and they said they want you to
- 18:55Speaker 1: come in and read for Semolo Selmer. I was like, okay,
- 18:58Speaker 1: did they call for me? She said, I don't know
- 18:59Speaker 1: what happened. So I got in there anyway, and I said, Ruben,
- 19:02Speaker 1: what's up? He said, clip, what are you doing here?
- 19:03Speaker 1: You always play tough guys? And I stayed up all
- 19:06Speaker 1: night long and watched Eyes on the Prize and I
- 19:08Speaker 1: had my suit, I made my mustache like Dr King's,
- 19:11Speaker 1: and I memorized at his final speech and when I
- 19:15Speaker 1: did it, and and and and they said, well he
- 19:16Speaker 1: has something prepared. I said, now it doesn't matter what happens. Now,
- 19:21Speaker 1: we've got some difficult days ahead. Lock anybody, I would
- 19:26Speaker 1: like to live a long life, long jep and they said,
- 19:29Speaker 1: you know what, you're gonna be keen, We're gonna figure
- 19:31Speaker 1: it out. And I'm just I'm just thinking. I'm just
- 19:34Speaker 1: glad that God gave me a certain amount of talent
- 19:37Speaker 1: and versatility to be able to um morph into different characters.
- 19:41Speaker 1: You know, I want thank you for dropping by the
- 19:43Speaker 1: show Man because of the fact that we we meet,
- 19:46Speaker 1: we hugged, shared some bread together. But from afar, I've
- 19:50Speaker 1: admired your talents and be able to share your talents
- 19:53Speaker 1: and also your message to a lot of young people
- 19:55Speaker 1: out there, a lot of growl people out there who
- 19:57Speaker 1: are giving up saying that I can't do it no more.
- 19:59Speaker 1: You're your testament to hey man, keep living your dream
- 20:02Speaker 1: and you have and I'm looking at you going sharp.
- 20:04Speaker 1: You also, I'm like with dieted, you haven't put on
- 20:06Speaker 1: weight sixties Sean, you're looking at me talking about I'm sharp.
