- 1:40Speaker 1: helping people create a positive, lasting change in people's lives.
- 1:44Speaker 1: He's he has an incredible TEX He's an incredible TEX speaker.
- 1:49Speaker 1: In fact, that the text he has all right now
- 1:51Speaker 1: he has over a million views. Please welcome to money
- 1:53Speaker 1: making Conversations. Dr d Ivan Young. Hey, hey man, how
- 1:59Speaker 1: are you doing this? MAXA. I'm doing good, but actually
- 2:02Speaker 1: it's been it's I've waited you long to put you
- 2:05Speaker 1: on the show. You've been on show longer typ ago.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Either you're just very busy or I'm just very busy.
- 2:09Speaker 1: But I'm happy to have you on the show. Dr
- 2:11Speaker 1: young Man. It is such an honor to be with you. Um.
- 2:16Speaker 1: You know one thing that I just have to kind
- 2:18Speaker 1: of be a little groupie about it is when someone
- 2:22Speaker 1: that I look at like you as a metal figure
- 2:24Speaker 1: and as a role model UH calls. The first thing
- 2:27Speaker 1: you wonder, okay, is this is down prank call? And
- 2:30Speaker 1: then he and know it was really your office. So man,
- 2:34Speaker 1: I am just I'm humbled. I'm delighted, But beyond that,
- 2:37Speaker 1: I am very grateful to have someone with your platform
- 2:42Speaker 1: and with your track record, UH just provide the opportunity
- 2:47Speaker 1: for me to try to bless somebody with what I've
- 2:49Speaker 1: learned from you and people like you. Well, let's give
- 2:53Speaker 1: some credit on my side to what you've done for
- 2:55Speaker 1: me personally. I was not interested in doing a radio show.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I ran into in Houston, Texas. I ran into uh
- 3:02Speaker 1: ivan and uh a restaurant, walked up to every show,
- 3:05Speaker 1: how are you doing? Do my show? And he has
- 3:07Speaker 1: a show on at the time, and I said, I
- 3:11Speaker 1: don't know. He said, come on, man, do my show.
- 3:12Speaker 1: People need to hear you. People need to hear what
- 3:14Speaker 1: you have to say. So I did this show in Houston, Texas,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and uh, it was great, fantastic show. Great. Uh people
- 3:20Speaker 1: are lightening up the phone called phone lines and everything.
- 3:23Speaker 1: And I got off. When I walked off air, the
- 3:25Speaker 1: owners of the station was waiting on me. I sat
- 3:28Speaker 1: in their office for two hours, remember that, and I
- 3:31Speaker 1: remember them ambushing you, is what I remember. When you
- 3:35Speaker 1: got off and and they sat down and asked me
- 3:38Speaker 1: and I said, well, I said, I do it. I
- 3:41Speaker 1: but but I only do it for four weeks. I'll
- 3:42Speaker 1: do the show for four weeks. That was in May
- 3:44Speaker 1: of last year, seventeen four weeks. So now we're at
- 3:48Speaker 1: the about the uh sixteen month mark, and we're still
- 3:52Speaker 1: doing money making conversation and I'm on the phone with
- 3:54Speaker 1: a young man who made it all happen as far
- 3:57Speaker 1: as getting me in. And that's why I always tell
- 3:59Speaker 1: people you never know when your next opportunity will come.
- 4:03Speaker 1: To keep an open mind, and that that's basically what
- 4:05Speaker 1: your career is all about. Keeping an open mind. Correct, yes, sir,
- 4:09Speaker 1: but one of the biggest things that has uh, I've
- 4:12Speaker 1: learned from just many mentors you, Jleen Ricky, people like
- 4:18Speaker 1: Greg Carter and people like that, is don't get the
- 4:21Speaker 1: big head work you're brought off people. There's no such
- 4:24Speaker 1: thing as being an overnight success. Now, you can screw
- 4:27Speaker 1: it up overnight, even within two or three minutes of
- 4:30Speaker 1: running your mouth. But if you really want durable, lasting success,
- 4:35Speaker 1: it's all about living your brand and being committed and
- 4:38Speaker 1: humble and every opportunity that you get, take it serious
- 4:42Speaker 1: and make the most of it. Let's talk about because
- 4:45Speaker 1: I wanted there several RILs, because we got you for
- 4:47Speaker 1: two breaks, and I want to talk about the tedex
- 4:50Speaker 1: moment now I ted X speaker opportunities have you had
- 4:54Speaker 1: so far? Uh? So far? There are too that are
- 4:58Speaker 1: published out there, and they're would be about three more
- 5:01Speaker 1: within the next twelve months. With well, I just felt
- 5:07Speaker 1: it like this man. You know, it's it's rare Rashanska
- 5:10Speaker 1: that they even get brothers. Uh, not that it hasn't
- 5:15Speaker 1: been any of us, but we are a very select
- 5:18Speaker 1: group and those of us who have been um esteemed
- 5:22Speaker 1: or fortunate enough to have that platform because as you guys,
- 5:27Speaker 1: know if they debt the hell out you to be
- 5:29Speaker 1: on do a ted X and then even when you're
- 5:32Speaker 1: in competition, you're in competition amongst all these brilliant minds.
- 5:36Speaker 1: So just have the the opportunity to do something like
- 5:41Speaker 1: that is truly, truly a wonderful experience. Now you have one.
- 5:46Speaker 1: You have one of your videos that you did know
- 5:48Speaker 1: ted X over a million views. I remember you were
- 5:50Speaker 1: tracking and Rashan check this out. I'm a thousand and
- 5:53Speaker 1: have me tell us about that experience for taping it.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Where was taped some of the content and it don't
- 5:59Speaker 1: want to give away because we want people, we want
- 6:01Speaker 1: to drive them to go watch it and keep adding
- 6:03Speaker 1: to the views. But tell us about wherever the tape,
- 6:06Speaker 1: how the opportunity came about you and what changes has
- 6:09Speaker 1: it caused in your life to get a video that
- 6:11Speaker 1: has been few by over a million people? Oh wow,
- 6:15Speaker 1: it's highly significant. You know. It's one thing when we
- 6:18Speaker 1: put out content ourselves and try to optimize it and
- 6:23Speaker 1: and and sell it. But tedd X doesn't permit you
- 6:27Speaker 1: doing any type of stimulation that's financial for a teex
- 6:31Speaker 1: h video. But the way it took place, long Star
- 6:35Speaker 1: was having a the TTEX event here and and the
- 6:40Speaker 1: Houston area, and several or few hundred people applied. I was,
- 6:46Speaker 1: I was suggested, and the next thing I know, you know,
- 6:50Speaker 1: they vetted and vetted and vetted, and I somehow it
- 6:53Speaker 1: was very um fortunate to make it to the top
- 6:58Speaker 1: ten people that they selected out of the hundreds of people.
- 7:02Speaker 1: From that point, the uh, you know, I just did
- 7:05Speaker 1: my thing talking about the laws of attraction and emotional intelligence.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Soon thereafter they notified me and they said, hey man,
- 7:14Speaker 1: this thing's a eleven thousand, which I was like, what
- 7:17Speaker 1: eleven thousand? If someone had told me it would be
- 7:20Speaker 1: a million views within eighteen months, I would have never
- 7:24Speaker 1: believed it. But I can tell you that what I'm
- 7:27Speaker 1: very grateful for is that it's opened up opportunities such
- 7:31Speaker 1: as this platform to be on programs like this program
- 7:34Speaker 1: I'm on with you right now, uh, to get the
- 7:37Speaker 1: exposure and to represent that many of us, meaning men
- 7:43Speaker 1: of color, we do more than And I'm not knocking
- 7:45Speaker 1: brothers that catching dribble balls, because that's the gift within itself,
- 7:49Speaker 1: but there are people like you and me out here
- 7:51Speaker 1: that use other gifts and other skills sets to um
- 7:56Speaker 1: to maximize our potential, and there's a lot of potential.
- 7:59Speaker 1: But the thing about it is that, you know, I've
- 8:01Speaker 1: had some videos that go viral. You know, viral is
- 8:04Speaker 1: anything that it sees like a hundred and fifty thousand
- 8:06Speaker 1: views and social media and it really does change your
- 8:10Speaker 1: life it Uh, it brings credibility to it. Uh when
- 8:14Speaker 1: you tell people when you want to get booked on shows,
- 8:16Speaker 1: you can send them that link and they go really
- 8:18Speaker 1: a million people And so I guess I want to
- 8:21Speaker 1: say that with that happened to you? What what? What?
- 8:24Speaker 1: What is? What has been the most um you know
- 8:27Speaker 1: is that when you say that's your first big break
- 8:30Speaker 1: in the media industry, that video going viral, not saying
- 8:34Speaker 1: that you haven't been accomplished in other areas. But that's
- 8:36Speaker 1: pretty significant. Yes it is. And I have no problem
- 8:40Speaker 1: being um, transparent or authentic about my journey Roshan. I
- 8:46Speaker 1: have worked so hard to have a voice and to
- 8:50Speaker 1: be at least recognized is not a scene, but just
- 8:54Speaker 1: recognized from how hard I work it wanting to be
- 8:58Speaker 1: the best at what I do. So to have something
- 9:00Speaker 1: like that happened change it did change the level for
- 9:05Speaker 1: me in terms of the playing field, and now that
- 9:08Speaker 1: I'm there, what I'm really reminded of is stuff that
- 9:11Speaker 1: I've learned from watching you is you know, don't get
- 9:14Speaker 1: the big head because now that you're here, what you're
- 9:17Speaker 1: gonna do while you're here? So being really being truthful.
- 9:21Speaker 1: I'm reading six bucks books a month. If I'm not reading,
- 9:25Speaker 1: and I'm listening to six um studying and working harder
- 9:28Speaker 1: than ever, and I'm dog gonna sure praying and meditating
- 9:31Speaker 1: everything to make sure that I can stay where I am.
- 9:33Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more. Dr d Ivan Young
- 9:36Speaker 1: going when you're making a conversation, he got a lot
- 9:39Speaker 1: to say. Hi. Just for Sean McDonald. You're back with me,
- 9:44Speaker 1: listen to money making conversations Before we go back to
- 9:47Speaker 1: the interview. I just gotta brag about my smile, my teeth.

- 9:54Speaker 1: why I have such pretty tag, pretty kid. So when
- 9:58Speaker 1: was the last time you replaced your to brush? I
- 10:00Speaker 1: know when I did when I got quipped? Do you
- 10:02Speaker 1: always brush twice a day for full two minutes? Paying

- 11:05Speaker 1: with my man. I'm not selling that doctor. You know
- 11:09Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I am any spokesperson. I am an
- 11:12Speaker 1: ambassador of brands. Now, that's what happens with your own
- 11:14Speaker 1: money making conversation. You get credibility. Now, you have tremendous credibility.
- 11:19Speaker 1: And I just want to say this to you, doctor,
- 11:22Speaker 1: You you what you accomplished, and I'm proud of you,
- 11:25Speaker 1: first of all, And I don't want and I brought
- 11:27Speaker 1: you on the show and I'm gonna bring on the
- 11:28Speaker 1: show again in the fall because I am a fan
- 11:31Speaker 1: of your brand. And it's also the part about because
- 11:35Speaker 1: I know the stages you have to go through. So
- 11:38Speaker 1: tell us what is the future of your brand? Because
- 11:41Speaker 1: I'm seeing you on these different TV shows as an expert.
- 11:46Speaker 1: What just there? Where are we going? Are we looking
- 11:48Speaker 1: at another Michael straighthand here another Steve Harvey? Here? I
- 11:53Speaker 1: love the Mortel Mortel? What's going on here? Sir? Man?
- 11:59Speaker 1: Being honest with you, my own lot of a lot
- 12:02Speaker 1: of lots of me, you better be honest with me. Well,
- 12:06Speaker 1: here's the truth. The truth is that there's a guy
- 12:09Speaker 1: um at a major network UH named David Parozzi who
- 12:14Speaker 1: has been very much a huge supporter and then I
- 12:18Speaker 1: have people like you and jay Len and Ricky in
- 12:20Speaker 1: my corner, so conversations are happening. Uh. We're talking to
- 12:26Speaker 1: uh some people a dr Fields production unit and exploring
- 12:31Speaker 1: possibilities there. We're also exploring some possibilities. I have a
- 12:35Speaker 1: wonderful public thist what's up, Heather? Who is uh? Talking
- 12:39Speaker 1: a book deal for me with some people in Chicago.
- 12:43Speaker 1: So we're just I'm open. The one thing that I've
- 12:46Speaker 1: learned from you, though, is I want some ownership and
- 12:50Speaker 1: whatever I do, I also want to have some degree
- 12:54Speaker 1: of creative control, if not control, significant influence to protect
- 12:59Speaker 1: integra the other content that's created because I'm not um,
- 13:03Speaker 1: I'm not getting ready to be bamboozle and I'm not
- 13:05Speaker 1: going to put out something and that doesn't reflect the
- 13:09Speaker 1: quality or the messaging that I put in my brand.
- 13:13Speaker 1: My brand is about hope and faith and and having
- 13:18Speaker 1: difficult conversations about unpleasant subjects with one outcome in mind,
- 13:23Speaker 1: and that's that not to be right, but just to
- 13:25Speaker 1: make sure that we really understand each other and to
- 13:28Speaker 1: do something positive with that understanding other than uh be
- 13:32Speaker 1: made a fool of or be help like that. You
- 13:35Speaker 1: know what? Absolutely now when you when you get these calls,
- 13:38Speaker 1: you have different calls. You get to be next for
- 13:40Speaker 1: an MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, then you get those calls
- 13:45Speaker 1: to be or TV ones hit programs like Fatal Attraction.
- 13:49Speaker 1: So so what's what's the tone shift when you're doing
- 13:53Speaker 1: a MSNBC versus doing Snapped or Fatal Attraction. Tell us
- 13:58Speaker 1: about that. Well, it's real simple. Know your place. You know,
- 14:02Speaker 1: when people call me as an expert, I'm to be that.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I'm not trying to be more than I am. So
- 14:09Speaker 1: whether it's Greg Carter that let me do a cameo
- 14:13Speaker 1: and my BF health and I understood my place. Look, dude,
- 14:16Speaker 1: you you're getting a little moment to do something you've
- 14:18Speaker 1: never done, So do it. Whether it's doing fail Attraction
- 14:22Speaker 1: or Snapped or CNN. I want to bring the best.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I want to bring my a game. I make sure
- 14:29Speaker 1: that I am well positioned and and I know my material.
- 14:33Speaker 1: So when I get my two minutes or my thirty
- 14:36Speaker 1: seconds or are fifteen minutes, I'm going to make sure
- 14:39Speaker 1: that I delivered two and get that phone called back
- 14:43Speaker 1: to come back again. Now, you which is really important.
- 14:46Speaker 1: That's why I always I always tell people you have
- 14:48Speaker 1: different layers of success, and your brand can be monetize
- 14:52Speaker 1: in different levels. And that's what you're doing right now.
- 14:54Speaker 1: You're monetizing your brand to just let people know that
- 14:58Speaker 1: you can. You can do these different lays and and
- 15:01Speaker 1: and and and shine and like I said, knowing your place.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Now we're talking about multiple strings income. I'm a big
- 15:07Speaker 1: proponent of multiple strings income. And then you say something,
- 15:10Speaker 1: you have something called the Taco Bell strategy. Now I've
- 15:14Speaker 1: never heard that taco bell strategy. So this is money
- 15:16Speaker 1: making conversations. When I read that your your your questions
- 15:20Speaker 1: for the show, I wanted you to explain exactly what
- 15:22Speaker 1: is the taco bell strategy. It's real simple. Taco Bell
- 15:27Speaker 1: takes ground beef, lettuce, cheese, and the tortilla and sometimes
- 15:31Speaker 1: they make a burrito, they make a taco, they make
- 15:33Speaker 1: a tostada, uh you know, chlofa. They make all this
- 15:36Speaker 1: stuff using the same basic ingredients or in my practice,
- 15:41Speaker 1: I am one of probably sixty or seventy master credential
- 15:45Speaker 1: NBTR practitioners in the world, and black men, I'm probably
- 15:50Speaker 1: one of six or seven and again in the world,
- 15:54Speaker 1: so I use that instrument. I'm an expert on personality type.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I'm also an expert on new linguistics. I'm also an
- 16:00Speaker 1: expert on relationships. So when I do my thing, I
- 16:04Speaker 1: make sure that I bring together elements that other people
- 16:08Speaker 1: have already said. You know what, this has a proven concept,
- 16:12Speaker 1: This has proven science. So it's not just my opinion,
- 16:16Speaker 1: because people, you need something as a base and as
- 16:20Speaker 1: a platform to build from the other thing. Something I
- 16:23Speaker 1: learned from you. I remember you shared the story with
- 16:25Speaker 1: me once you said, Doc, I wasn't going through a
- 16:28Speaker 1: season of my life and they were making some decisions
- 16:31Speaker 1: and and you said, well, I tell you what, I
- 16:33Speaker 1: don't really mind the money pay me, but let me
- 16:37Speaker 1: keep my title. I need my title. So I've learned
- 16:40Speaker 1: the value of a good name number one, and the
- 16:43Speaker 1: value of using key ingredients that are associated with my
- 16:47Speaker 1: name that I can bring value to that brand or
- 16:51Speaker 1: to that instrument, and that instrument can add value. And uh,
- 16:55Speaker 1: you know, be somewhat of an implied endorsement from my abilities.
- 17:00Speaker 1: And and again like it goes back to this work
- 17:04Speaker 1: hard and know your stuff. You know that this clip,
- 17:07Speaker 1: that little that story he talked about was that Uh.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I just wrapped uh a season on Steve Harvey's first
- 17:13Speaker 1: sitcom on ABC called Me and the Boys, and Robert
- 17:16Speaker 1: Townson hired me to do his sitcom on the WB
- 17:19Speaker 1: called Parenthood, and I was on the Steve harves Shaw
- 17:23Speaker 1: was an executive story editor. And then what they did
- 17:26Speaker 1: was when I got hired on Robert Townson show, they
- 17:30Speaker 1: moving back to the staff writer. So I actually took
- 17:32Speaker 1: a step back. So I said, hey, hey, hey, hey,
- 17:34Speaker 1: I need my title. I said, you don't have to
- 17:36Speaker 1: pay me money, just get me titled. I just wanted
- 17:39Speaker 1: people to assume that I was still moving forward without
- 17:42Speaker 1: the check associated with it, because a lot of people
- 17:44Speaker 1: don't understand that it's about branding. Way back then, I
- 17:47Speaker 1: understood brands, understood about marketing, understood about perception, and people
- 17:51Speaker 1: perceived that you're moving forward. Then guess what you get
- 17:54Speaker 1: paid like you're going to be moving forward. So I
- 17:56Speaker 1: always end up. I told her they had never had
- 17:58Speaker 1: anybody talked to him like that. I said, no, no, no,
- 18:01Speaker 1: you keep us out. Just getting my title back. They went, oh,
- 18:04Speaker 1: this legal. When they came back, okay, we'll do it.
- 18:07Speaker 1: You're sure now, I said, I don't want any money.
- 18:10Speaker 1: I just want that title and that's what you're saying
- 18:12Speaker 1: right now, and that's what you're trying to communicate when
- 18:15Speaker 1: you talk about doing business, and that's why you have
- 18:17Speaker 1: the title of the reality check. Correct Yes, sir h.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Taking that even further, I've had you and Maya, Ricky
- 18:25Speaker 1: jay Len, and Mayanna. If you guys don't know who
- 18:27Speaker 1: Jayleen McK and Ricky Anderson is, you might want to
- 18:29Speaker 1: find out. But the thing that the three of you
- 18:32Speaker 1: taught me is know when to exit stage left, meaning
- 18:36Speaker 1: is something's not conducive to where you're taking your brand.
- 18:39Speaker 1: You know, all money ain't good money, and all opportunities
- 18:42Speaker 1: aren't good opportunities. The other thing that I learned UH
- 18:45Speaker 1: on the hard way is to let your let other
- 18:50Speaker 1: people brag about you, let other people talk about you.
- 18:53Speaker 1: And I'm not saying don't promote yourself. There's a difference
- 18:56Speaker 1: between promoting yourself and then positioning yourself to look like
- 19:00Speaker 1: a full of what the bull left in the barnyard.
- 19:02Speaker 1: So I don't do that anymore. I've made sure of
- 19:05Speaker 1: that I leave a trail, and that trail is built
- 19:10Speaker 1: on things that add value to not only my brand,
- 19:13Speaker 1: but to whatever opportunity I'm presented with it's amazing. Let
- 19:16Speaker 1: me just clarify jay Lee Mac She's an attorney out
- 19:19Speaker 1: of Houston, Texas. She does all my trademarks that are
- 19:22Speaker 1: Steve Harvey, rashand McDonald the last twenty years. That's the
- 19:26Speaker 1: only person who's ever done trademarks for me and Steve
- 19:28Speaker 1: Harvey in that run. Also Ricky Anderson, he does deal
- 19:32Speaker 1: for Tyler Perry Monique exclusively Monique when she wanted to
- 19:35Speaker 1: Oscar mentioned Ricky Turney attorney Ricky Anderson excuse me owned
- 19:40Speaker 1: on the stage when she won the Oscar Doctor the
- 19:43Speaker 1: Reality Check doctor. That's doctor d Ivan Young. I want
- 19:46Speaker 1: to thank you for coming on my show. Um my man,
- 19:49Speaker 1: know that we're gonna do this more often every quarter
- 19:51Speaker 1: because your brand is part of my life. I just
- 19:54Speaker 1: want to bring on, bring you on the show and
- 19:55Speaker 1: say thank you. Thank you for giving me a direction
- 19:58Speaker 1: that I wasn't looking and it was important that you
- 20:01Speaker 1: believe in me that I also believe in myself. Hey man,
- 20:05Speaker 1: thank you, Love you, bro, and may God continue to
- 20:07Speaker 1: bless everything you put your hands on. Well, I feel
- 20:10Speaker 1: good about that statement. I accepted, and I want all
- 20:14Speaker 1: those blessings to go back to you the same way
- 20:16Speaker 1: I want to make a conversation will be right back.
