- 2:27Speaker 1: Let me get all the credits as we can start talking.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I noticed his talents. So for the first time, Tyler
- 2:33Speaker 1: Prayer is the Oval. That's when he came into my
- 2:35Speaker 1: life that first season. But it does not stop there.
- 2:38Speaker 1: He's appearing right now Will Smith new movie Keen Richards.
- 2:43Speaker 1: He's also the Devil Know you're coming out in two
- 2:46Speaker 1: opposite My Boys or my Epps and Michael Eally who
- 2:49Speaker 1: also been on my show. We're gonna talk about Vonne
- 2:52Speaker 1: new lead role. And they send me some clips on
- 2:55Speaker 1: your bones, so we're gonna talk about that. You're surprised,
- 3:00Speaker 1: the popular the Game, everybody knows The Game. Serious revival
- 3:04Speaker 1: out on Paramount Plus. The show premiered on Paramount Plus
- 3:07Speaker 1: on November eleven of this year. He'll be talking about
- 3:10Speaker 1: his rising career, his journey uh pivot him from a
- 3:14Speaker 1: corporate life, pursuing his acting and his dream. And that's
- 3:18Speaker 1: what we really want to talk about. That making that leap.
- 3:20Speaker 1: But all people talking about making a leap of faith
- 3:22Speaker 1: following their passion, but he did it, and we're gonna
- 3:24Speaker 1: talk about that because it always comes with consequences that
- 3:26Speaker 1: we can't control. But it's all positive because you live
- 3:29Speaker 1: in your dream and getting rolled successfully in such a
- 3:32Speaker 1: short period of time. What he has learned, what's been
- 3:34Speaker 1: an integral, integral part to his success on his own journey.
- 3:38Speaker 1: This thus far please working to money making conversations, Vaughan Hebron,
- 3:45Speaker 1: I appreciate you being man well. First of all, um
- 3:48Speaker 1: Let's park. Where are you from? Vaughan? Where are you from?
- 3:51Speaker 1: Originally brought him of Maryland. Huh really brought him in Maryland,
- 3:55Speaker 1: and Uh went to high school in Pennsylvania and the
- 3:59Speaker 1: college at Lafya College, Pennsylvania before I started traveling. Uh,
- 4:03Speaker 1: in my pharmaceutical career. Okay, pharmaceuticals. So that was a
- 4:07Speaker 1: professional way of saying you were selling drugs for a living.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I was professional dope dealing. Okay, you go,
- 4:13Speaker 1: And nothing wrong with that because the people do it
- 4:15Speaker 1: for real, and that people do it on the streets,
- 4:18Speaker 1: and people in the streets, those people get in trouble.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Now use out there now that I have a couple
- 4:23Speaker 1: of friends about who are professional pharmaceutical sale people and
- 4:26Speaker 1: they made a good living. They enjoy their life drive
- 4:29Speaker 1: nice cars, nice houses. Vaughn. Okay, okay, I'm assuming you
- 4:34Speaker 1: can look and guy articulate, kind of nice shape. You're
- 4:36Speaker 1: probably have there being very successful, weren't you selling? Thank Yeah, man,
- 4:40Speaker 1: I mean, you know, having it was my first real
- 4:43Speaker 1: job out of college. Um, you know, and your your
- 4:47Speaker 1: mid twenties having a pharmaceutical job. You know, things are
- 4:50Speaker 1: getting paid for, checks are coming in, and you're living
- 4:52Speaker 1: a good life. So it was definitely a career that
- 4:57Speaker 1: my parents are proud of and that everybody from the
- 5:00Speaker 1: outside looking in just thought, hey, you already made it
- 5:03Speaker 1: at such an early time in your life, which was
- 5:06Speaker 1: even more of course interested when I shifted and left
- 5:09Speaker 1: that and go into acting. But uh, to your point,
- 5:13Speaker 1: most definitely it's it's a great career, and um, I
- 5:16Speaker 1: would go back to it if I wasn't happy what
- 5:19Speaker 1: I'm doing. Well, you know that that's really interesting because
- 5:21Speaker 1: the offer I was just telling you like that happened
- 5:23Speaker 1: to me. You know. I was my degrees in mathematics,
- 5:26Speaker 1: my miners, and sociology, graduated from University of Houston and Houston, Texas,
- 5:30Speaker 1: and got a job at IBM. In fact, I was
- 5:32Speaker 1: working with IBM two and a half years part time
- 5:35Speaker 1: before I you know, send it to a full time opportunity,
- 5:38Speaker 1: had the car, had their apartment, had the social life,
- 5:42Speaker 1: all that good stuff, boxes, all those boxes. But I
- 5:47Speaker 1: wasn't satisfied because from a creative standpoint, I wasn't. I
- 5:53Speaker 1: would never say I was not happy because the best
- 5:55Speaker 1: time in my life. I still live off those life experiences.
- 5:58Speaker 1: But something was missing though on what was missing? When
- 6:02Speaker 1: you because you did all the right thing, I checked,
- 6:03Speaker 1: check check what was missing? I think for me? What
- 6:07Speaker 1: was I know? For me what was missing was um,
- 6:12Speaker 1: the the feeling that I was actually accomplishing something for
- 6:17Speaker 1: myself right, the feeling that I was uh making myself
- 6:23Speaker 1: happy before others that I was, That I was accomplishing
- 6:27Speaker 1: things because I wanted to do it, opposed to just
- 6:30Speaker 1: you know, the societal standards of making money, getting a resume.
- 6:37Speaker 1: UM having this position, that position. It was like when
- 6:40Speaker 1: I stepped back and said that, am I really happy
- 6:42Speaker 1: hanging my hat on this besides everybody else's? Is this
- 6:45Speaker 1: what I wanted to say that I'm doing? I couldn't
- 6:48Speaker 1: say that. You know, I was going through emotions. I
- 6:50Speaker 1: was going through the emotions. I was looking for another
- 6:52Speaker 1: reason to get out of bed having morning besides just
- 6:55Speaker 1: just fulfilling these certain duties that look good on paper,
- 6:59Speaker 1: and they looked up by societal standards. Right. But you know,
- 7:02Speaker 1: it's really interesting when I when I bring guests like
- 7:04Speaker 1: you on the Money Making Conversation because a lot of
- 7:06Speaker 1: people they wait to a certain point in life where
- 7:09Speaker 1: they make a decision. And maybe I always took you.
- 7:11Speaker 1: There's no excuse. A should never be an excuse. And
- 7:15Speaker 1: then like when I left IBM, I made that decision
- 7:18Speaker 1: a year in advance, and I and I was and
- 7:22Speaker 1: I would tell people in the show. I've said many time,
- 7:23Speaker 1: I was brought to tears by that decision because it
- 7:25Speaker 1: was such a tough decision because I wasn't sure, but
- 7:28Speaker 1: I know if I wanted to be happy long term,
- 7:31Speaker 1: I didn't want to look back thirty years and go,
- 7:33Speaker 1: what if? What was that decision making process with you? Von?
- 7:37Speaker 1: You know, to which has led to the oval, which
- 7:40Speaker 1: has led to the game, which has led to so
- 7:41Speaker 1: many other opportunities that we're gonna talk about it. But
- 7:44Speaker 1: what really because it was nothing out that that guaranteed you,
- 7:47Speaker 1: because that was a guaranteed help benefits guaranteed, check, guarantee,
- 7:51Speaker 1: rippy and pay. It came every week, fifth of the
- 7:53Speaker 1: twice a month, it came. It was the stability, and
- 7:56Speaker 1: it was it was the stability. It was, you know,
- 7:59Speaker 1: a very a stable, safe environment that you're in. And
- 8:03Speaker 1: I guess the process for me was first realizing that
- 8:07Speaker 1: I wasn't fulfilled, you know. And I think a lot
- 8:10Speaker 1: of people actually feel this sometimes and they struggle with it.
- 8:13Speaker 1: They may not be able to put their finger on
- 8:15Speaker 1: what it is, but it's the feeling of I'm not
- 8:19Speaker 1: I'm not happy for myself. I'm not um fulfilling my potential.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I'm not I'm getting up every day because I have to,
- 8:27Speaker 1: not because I want you, And I think understanding and
- 8:31Speaker 1: being aware of that first and foremost. Once you have
- 8:35Speaker 1: that awareness, then you can start making decisions from there
- 8:37Speaker 1: and you know, understanding why you feel that way, understanding
- 8:41Speaker 1: how you can change that way, and then starting yourself
- 8:43Speaker 1: on the course um to change your life. So for me,
- 8:46Speaker 1: it was again understanding one day that you know, I
- 8:50Speaker 1: wasn't happy, and then starting to think of other things
- 8:54Speaker 1: that would made me happy, Understanding my passions, understanding things
- 8:57Speaker 1: that I like to do when nobody's family to do it.
- 9:00Speaker 1: When nobody's forcing me to do it, what do I
- 9:02Speaker 1: find myself doing? And that's where I started to draw,
- 9:05Speaker 1: you know, eventually got into acting classes because I've always
- 9:09Speaker 1: loved movies. I've always loved television. Nobody ever had to
- 9:12Speaker 1: make me do that. I'll be on the TV watching
- 9:16Speaker 1: my television all day, you know. So it was it
- 9:20Speaker 1: was first understanding that and that's what led me to
- 9:23Speaker 1: the course of actions that got me eventually here we
- 9:25Speaker 1: were talking to Vaughan Hebron, he starved a new series
- 9:28Speaker 1: on Paramount Plus streaming the game. Uh, we're gonna I
- 9:32Speaker 1: want to jump a little bit of here because now
- 9:34Speaker 1: this is a lead role. So this is all about you,
- 9:37Speaker 1: you know, because you you know, they a lot of
- 9:39Speaker 1: more pressure, you know about it, And obviously they've sent
- 9:42Speaker 1: me up sizzle cut sampling and I got that met Man,
- 9:48Speaker 1: you look like you really complete the game with football,
- 9:50Speaker 1: you really, you know, I would tell you so, man,
- 9:53Speaker 1: you know, because you know, I like when I was
- 9:55Speaker 1: I've been and uh when I did when I was
- 9:57Speaker 1: co executive of the Jamie Foxx show way back when
- 10:00Speaker 1: when he did, uh, you know, the movie with Appucino
- 10:04Speaker 1: the football when we played the quarter back. You know,
- 10:06Speaker 1: he got in shape, man and he and he played
- 10:08Speaker 1: that role. That was actually the role that the launched
- 10:11Speaker 1: his career, especially as a dramatic actor, because he was
- 10:13Speaker 1: only name is known as a comedian. And when you
- 10:16Speaker 1: go back and they throw that ball to you and
- 10:18Speaker 1: you catching you running man down the sideline like a
- 10:21Speaker 1: like a like a professional wide receiver. Talk about the
- 10:24Speaker 1: reality of being able to say, I want people to
- 10:29Speaker 1: feel I can actually play this in real life too,
- 10:32Speaker 1: if he was given the opportunity. Because man, I'm gonna
- 10:34Speaker 1: tell you something, I was impressed by your your where
- 10:37Speaker 1: you adapted the role and also where you feed you.
- 10:40Speaker 1: You actually like I could actually see you catching a
- 10:42Speaker 1: ball from Kyler Murray from Arizona Carner. I could actually
- 10:45Speaker 1: believe that. Talk about that experience, Well, for me, it
- 10:49Speaker 1: was I was very adamant about doing my own stunts
- 10:53Speaker 1: for this role. I was very adamant about having me
- 10:57Speaker 1: in there as much as possible to not only sell
- 11:02Speaker 1: Um Jamison Fields being that character, being that guy, but
- 11:06Speaker 1: also to you know, give myself a chance to realize
- 11:11Speaker 1: my potential. I haven't played Um college football obviously, since like,
- 11:15Speaker 1: you know two, But I'm somebody who stays in shape.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I'm somebody who's always active. And these are the roles
- 11:23Speaker 1: that I worked for. These are the roles that I
- 11:25Speaker 1: trained so hard for. So I was not going to
- 11:29Speaker 1: let a stunt double get in there and just you know,
- 11:31Speaker 1: do all the work. I said, put me in as
- 11:33Speaker 1: much as possible, and in that environment, I honestly, honestly,
- 11:38Speaker 1: I forgot I was acting. Honestly that I was acting.
- 11:40Speaker 1: It was it felt like like being back on the field.
- 11:45Speaker 1: The pressure of the nerves, the being the star on
- 11:48Speaker 1: the field, being that guy. It was everything that I
- 11:51Speaker 1: had grown accustomed to and had experience with. So for me,
- 11:56Speaker 1: it was an easy transition just to bring all of
- 11:59Speaker 1: that show, all the nerves into the scene, into these
- 12:02Speaker 1: moments and really show up. So it was it was
- 12:09Speaker 1: I will tell you here was a lot of work.
- 12:11Speaker 1: But j just cut you off right there because I
- 12:14Speaker 1: want to let you know, you know, I've been fortunate.
- 12:17Speaker 1: You know manager Steve Harvey, currently manager Steve Nie Smith,
- 12:20Speaker 1: you know Nick Cannon, and you know Kevin Hard, Jamie Fox,
- 12:24Speaker 1: Robert Hows and Twins, Tia and Tomorrow, Marlway to gather.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I've been around a lot of stars, Monique, and I've
- 12:31Speaker 1: been able to sit down and coach them, motivate them.
- 12:34Speaker 1: And the reality is all tied to hard work. Every
- 12:38Speaker 1: name I mentioned, they're still successful because of hard work.
- 12:42Speaker 1: And so what I loved about what I saw was that,
- 12:45Speaker 1: you know, I see you take off, I need see
- 12:47Speaker 1: a little skinny guy then catching the ball. I knew
- 12:49Speaker 1: that was you catching the ball. So by setting that
- 12:52Speaker 1: that that standard, the respect level on the set went
- 12:56Speaker 1: up because I could you, I could, I can tell
- 12:59Speaker 1: you right now, because all remember of actors. They were
- 13:03Speaker 1: actors who suddenly when I can't do that right? And
- 13:07Speaker 1: so that was you know, when you when you're trying
- 13:09Speaker 1: to step in. I remember when Steve Harvey what was
- 13:11Speaker 1: doing this first sitcom and ninety four and that's where
- 13:14Speaker 1: we That's why I met Wendy Red. Carol Robinson, your coach,
- 13:17Speaker 1: carved the show, gave it. She came in as a
- 13:19Speaker 1: love interest way back then in ninety four ninety five,
- 13:23Speaker 1: and you know it was it was, you know a
- 13:25Speaker 1: lot of a lot of people giving Steve flat because
- 13:28Speaker 1: he was a comedian. Suddenly he was giving a star
- 13:30Speaker 1: and role in the sitcom and people talking about he
- 13:32Speaker 1: can't act, he can't act while he getting the role. Okay,
- 13:35Speaker 1: when he stepped out there, then everybody shut up, Oh
- 13:38Speaker 1: he can't at Oh I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Sometimes you
- 13:41Speaker 1: got the only way to prove people, the only way
- 13:43Speaker 1: to prove things that people are just by showing up
- 13:45Speaker 1: and do the work right. And so with that being said,
- 13:47Speaker 1: and I'm very complimentary about that far because of the
- 13:50Speaker 1: fact that you know, a lot of people they say
- 13:52Speaker 1: they want to dream, they wanted, but then again they
- 13:55Speaker 1: don't want to show up and put the work out
- 13:57Speaker 1: and to work in because, like you said, you you
- 13:59Speaker 1: were hand raisers. I always tell people being a hand
- 14:02Speaker 1: raiser just because that's not because a lot of people said, well,
- 14:04Speaker 1: they don't pay me to do that. Well, you did
- 14:06Speaker 1: a hand raise. Look I want to do that, and
- 14:09Speaker 1: that in turn gives me more respect. And I kid
- 14:12Speaker 1: you not man your career. Once people see this series
- 14:16Speaker 1: more and more than all your body of work. Brother,
- 14:18Speaker 1: you you're gonna be working for a long time on
- 14:21Speaker 1: Thank you. I really appreciate it. Thank you so much. Seriously,
- 14:25Speaker 1: You're gonna be working for a long time because of
- 14:27Speaker 1: the fact that you know the credibility that you gave me,
- 14:32Speaker 1: and you know the fact that you know, I know
- 14:34Speaker 1: we was up to. It was like a couple of
- 14:36Speaker 1: times he was supposed to interview and we got to
- 14:38Speaker 1: reach scared us and no, no, no, whatever he could,
- 14:40Speaker 1: whatever he scared, I want to interview him because I
- 14:42Speaker 1: really enjoy you and I love meeting young talent like
- 14:45Speaker 1: you because that's my job. My job is to meet
- 14:48Speaker 1: people like you've all and then tell you how special
- 14:51Speaker 1: you are, let you know state of course and longevity.
- 14:55Speaker 1: We party your game. And that's why I mentioned when
- 14:57Speaker 1: they were Carl Robinson, when I made her name in
- 14:59Speaker 1: four D Queen dude acting every year, right every year,
- 15:06Speaker 1: every year, and she was just such an example for us,
- 15:10Speaker 1: Like she is literally the queen on set, the example
- 15:15Speaker 1: that she sets, the work ethic that she has to
- 15:17Speaker 1: her leadership skills, her her motherly but also like tough
- 15:22Speaker 1: love skills. Like she she is such a prime example
- 15:25Speaker 1: of somebody who has paved the way for other people
- 15:29Speaker 1: to get to that same level, and she does it
- 15:31Speaker 1: consistently with her hard work. Absolutely. Now let's let's let's
- 15:34Speaker 1: go to my favorite show. When I first saw your
- 15:36Speaker 1: own the Oval, The Oval. Okay, let's let's talk about
- 15:41Speaker 1: was that your first that's Tyler Paris The Oval, which
- 15:44Speaker 1: is very popular, one of the most popular shows on BT. UM.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I meant this, I saw I ever met this year.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I saw him. That's when he came into my life.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I'm I'm a fan of The Oval. And he played
- 15:55Speaker 1: this son, you know, his wife and he had a
- 15:58Speaker 1: child and then she goes she got caught up into
- 16:01Speaker 1: this coat just because you don't know, the back store
- 16:03Speaker 1: and then he had a little he had an affair
- 16:06Speaker 1: on the side. You know, his characters all best stuff
- 16:09Speaker 1: y'all of the place. You know, he was kind of
- 16:13Speaker 1: selling drugs, but he wasn't selling he he was like,
- 16:16Speaker 1: let's talk about that relationship with Tyler Perry, how did
- 16:19Speaker 1: this start? Before we started having fun with The Oval
- 16:21Speaker 1: because it was a fun character because it's over the time. Well, um,
- 16:25Speaker 1: interestingly enough, you know, Tyler, he actually saw me on
- 16:29Speaker 1: a comedy spook that I did for the Zous Network,
- 16:33Speaker 1: and um, he saw that and it was that was
- 16:36Speaker 1: all improv. That was it was scripted, but it was
- 16:38Speaker 1: basically all improv and it was just like a comedy
- 16:41Speaker 1: fun thing. Um, and it was on YouTube and then
- 16:43Speaker 1: on Zeus network and he saw it because a couple
- 16:46Speaker 1: of people in the play that he did on his
- 16:48Speaker 1: last tour. I mentioned it to him and so he
- 16:51Speaker 1: eventually caught me up right directly called my phone and uh,
- 16:56Speaker 1: he was like going, Heaven, Tyler Perry here, you know,
- 17:00Speaker 1: with you and that's right. And so you know, I'm
- 17:04Speaker 1: literally in my bedroom having a conversation with Tyler Perry
- 17:07Speaker 1: on the phone and he this down flow just then. Okay,
- 17:11Speaker 1: I remember when all cityr Hall called me. I was
- 17:13Speaker 1: driving in l A, Okay, and uh, this is the
- 17:17Speaker 1: Hall when he was a City of Hall Okay. And
- 17:20Speaker 1: I went, okay, I actually hung up on that's to
- 17:23Speaker 1: do stop this, stop to stop, stop stop playing with me,
- 17:25Speaker 1: and I hug up the phone on it. He come, hey, man,
- 17:27Speaker 1: this is just really on senior Okay. That's okay. Cool.
- 17:30Speaker 1: And you know those moments man, when people at that
- 17:35Speaker 1: statue and believe me, Tyler Perry way bigger than a
- 17:38Speaker 1: Senior Hall. So that's why I got to slow him down.
- 17:40Speaker 1: See people like Vone, they missed the moment because it happened.
- 17:45Speaker 1: But she it's a blessing because Tyler does this all
- 17:48Speaker 1: the time, and I laughed with him because he had
- 17:50Speaker 1: called people up and had these regular conversations. And then
- 17:53Speaker 1: on the other end of the phone, they're hard jumping
- 17:55Speaker 1: out their chest, they mind screaming, I can't believe this.
- 17:58Speaker 1: They're trying to go where it's is gonna go with offer.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I made it talk about that emotion, Vaughn. With Tyler
- 18:06Speaker 1: called you. You broke the reality that it was Tyler Perry,
- 18:10Speaker 1: and then you broke down to do this casual conversation
- 18:12Speaker 1: you're talking about, right right, I mean, first of all,
- 18:16Speaker 1: all right, So first of all, I got it heads
- 18:18Speaker 1: up that Tyler has spotted me. One of the gas
- 18:22Speaker 1: makes text me and say, hey, um, Tyler asked about you.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I gave him your number. I hope that's okay, And
- 18:28Speaker 1: I'm right, of course that's okay. But you know, you know,
- 18:31Speaker 1: when you when you hear stuff like that, you're thinking
- 18:35Speaker 1: this may or may not turn into something. He's not
- 18:37Speaker 1: gonna he's not. He's for sure not directly gonna contact me.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And if anybody ever contacts me on behalf of him,
- 18:45Speaker 1: it's gonna be six months from now and years and
- 18:47Speaker 1: now whatever. And so it was literally two minutes later
- 18:51Speaker 1: that I see a four or four number pop up
- 18:54Speaker 1: and I'm like, this can't be in And as soon
- 18:57Speaker 1: as I answered the phone, I know his boys, I
- 19:00Speaker 1: knew his voice, and I'm stuttering, um um, I'm thinking,
- 19:07Speaker 1: there is no possible way that he's calling me. And
- 19:11Speaker 1: I know he's calling me. I'm know I'm talking to him,
- 19:13Speaker 1: but this is not real, this is not happening. This
- 19:17Speaker 1: is surreal, um. And I'm just I'm listening. I'm feeling
- 19:25Speaker 1: my head right like, what are you doing? What is
- 19:29Speaker 1: what's going on right now? I can't be having a
- 19:32Speaker 1: conversation with this man after two years of being in
- 19:35Speaker 1: l A, moving here for this is that reason, and
- 19:37Speaker 1: he's he's now talking to me about acting. It's it's
- 19:44Speaker 1: it's one of those things where you never forget the feeling,
- 19:47Speaker 1: but it's like it's so hard to describe because uh
- 19:52Speaker 1: influx of emotions and you're just all of a sudden,
- 19:57Speaker 1: universe just opens up. I can't believe it is right.
- 20:00Speaker 1: And so now the how did think or the opportunity
- 20:03Speaker 1: for the Oval come about? What did he call you directly?
- 20:06Speaker 1: For the The Oval series? He had a character and
- 20:09Speaker 1: mindful you had the audition for other characters. So he
- 20:12Speaker 1: had the character in mind for me after he saw me.
- 20:16Speaker 1: After he saw me, you know, we talked a little
- 20:17Speaker 1: bit um introductions and things like that and um, and
- 20:23Speaker 1: so that he started talking about the show that he
- 20:25Speaker 1: saw him before. He said, I see you do comedy
- 20:27Speaker 1: very well. I'm curious if you are a drama actor.
- 20:31Speaker 1: And I said, I can't be. I cannot be whatever. Uh.
- 20:38Speaker 1: He said, well, I'm coming out with this new show
- 20:40Speaker 1: right now, and you are you are perfect for this
- 20:43Speaker 1: character named Barry, uh, that I that I have on
- 20:46Speaker 1: the show. Would you be interested? You know, I gotta
- 20:53Speaker 1: play it up. I got play it up. Uh yeah,
- 20:56Speaker 1: you know, tell me about a little bit ye some side.
- 21:01Speaker 1: So I'm trying to read to check out the line.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Make sure you get my character, you know, you know,
- 21:06Speaker 1: because I could be a gonna be interested into it,
- 21:08Speaker 1: you know. Long let me hear about the character a
- 21:10Speaker 1: little bit, tyler, let me hear about the character. Yeah,
- 21:15Speaker 1: oh yeah, I would definitely be interested in auditioning for this.
- 21:19Speaker 1: And we're just having a conversation man about the character
- 21:21Speaker 1: about the show, because he had been working on it
- 21:24Speaker 1: for about two years before he and they were actually
- 21:27Speaker 1: in the final stages of casting by the time he
- 21:29Speaker 1: got to me. Um so it happened very fast for me.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Other people they've been you know, in line with it
- 21:35Speaker 1: for a while. Now the now the character many over
- 21:40Speaker 1: the top man, he hothead. Uh you know, mant got
- 21:49Speaker 1: a child, he got an extramarital or fair Uh what
- 21:53Speaker 1: did you when you start seeing that the character descriptions,
- 21:56Speaker 1: start reading the line this is just fun talk. You know,
- 21:58Speaker 1: there's no you know, because the seriou just over the
- 22:00Speaker 1: top and it's fun and it's just outrageous. But when
- 22:05Speaker 1: did you When did you realize this is just a
- 22:07Speaker 1: line between comedy and drama? Y you know, because of
- 22:11Speaker 1: your your character, because it was so over the top,
- 22:14Speaker 1: and and you kept making the mistakes and you kept
- 22:16Speaker 1: wanting people feel sorry for you. You kept one of
- 22:18Speaker 1: your second chances, and but you when you drove that
- 22:22Speaker 1: car through that drug store, I went, he had lost
- 22:24Speaker 1: his mind to do it up. Pops got shot right,
- 22:30Speaker 1: you know? For me, it was it was a definitely,
- 22:32Speaker 1: it was definitely a learning experience because, um I I
- 22:38Speaker 1: had an interesting time with trying to make all this
- 22:42Speaker 1: real because ever since the first episode with Barry, you know,
- 22:46Speaker 1: he got accused of rape with the with the with
- 22:49Speaker 1: the president's daughter daughter, was kidnapped by a cult leader. Um,
- 22:54Speaker 1: he accidentally shot somebody, his girlfriend's cheating on him. And
- 22:59Speaker 1: I'm just like, one thing after another another. I have
- 23:04Speaker 1: to I'm trying to I'm trying to ground it, Tyler,
- 23:06Speaker 1: I'm trying to ground it. And he's just like, you
- 23:09Speaker 1: just gotta go for it. Yes, go for it. Like
- 23:13Speaker 1: he said, lose your mind. You already trying to make
- 23:17Speaker 1: all this work makes sense, you know exactly. He said,
- 23:20Speaker 1: you can't make sense of it. He literally said, you
- 23:22Speaker 1: can't make sense of it, just lose your mind. And
- 23:25Speaker 1: so after that point, at that point, I just became
- 23:27Speaker 1: a little monster. Man. I just didn't care. I love it,
- 23:31Speaker 1: first of all. And there's no there's no character description
- 23:34Speaker 1: of Barry when I got the audition, there was no
- 23:36Speaker 1: character description of him besides Butler's son, right right. I
- 23:39Speaker 1: forgot the fact that the President's doughter did accuse your rape.
- 23:43Speaker 1: That was the first that was the first thing that
- 23:45Speaker 1: went wrong in your life. And then it just it
- 23:47Speaker 1: just kept just roll it down here after that. Man.
- 23:51Speaker 1: So it was it's something I couldn't make sense of
- 23:54Speaker 1: it when he once he told me that, then it
- 23:56Speaker 1: was just you know, you're on green light. You just
- 23:58Speaker 1: go a hunt in my spoble from that one. Before
- 24:00Speaker 1: we go, I want to talk about a couple of
- 24:01Speaker 1: the projects that you have coming up, man, because I
- 24:03Speaker 1: want to I don't want to limit the fact that
- 24:05Speaker 1: you know, I'm a big fan of Oval and that's
- 24:07Speaker 1: why I discovered you as a fan. I became a
- 24:10Speaker 1: fan through that that portal and then you're on the
- 24:12Speaker 1: start and on the game. But Keen Richards in the
- 24:14Speaker 1: theaters right now. I read an article on uh you know,
- 24:18Speaker 1: because it premiered on HBO Max, and then they said
- 24:22Speaker 1: people a hundred percent of the people who watched the
- 24:24Speaker 1: movie watched it all the way through, which is a
- 24:27Speaker 1: testament to a quality of the movie because usually people
- 24:30Speaker 1: just pop off, you know, I'm saying, they said a
- 24:32Speaker 1: hundred If you whoever started watching that movie completed that movie,
- 24:37Speaker 1: talk about that. And then we're gonna slide over to
- 24:39Speaker 1: the movie you're doing with on my ELPs and Mica
- 24:41Speaker 1: Eli is coming out next year in two yes, sir, yes, sir.
- 24:45Speaker 1: So you know, first of all, this was my first
- 24:48Speaker 1: uh big movie role Um, And it was an opportunity
- 24:52Speaker 1: to work with Will and there's there's several people in
- 24:56Speaker 1: that cast that I've always been fans of, and so
- 24:59Speaker 1: for me, it was just it was another surreal moment,
- 25:04Speaker 1: you know, my first movie, to be able to watch
- 25:08Speaker 1: Will Smith, to learn from him offset on set, and
- 25:12Speaker 1: just um being that environment and being a space that
- 25:15Speaker 1: I want to, you know, um aspire to one day.
- 25:20Speaker 1: It was it was just nothing but a blessing. And
- 25:22Speaker 1: I was watching his work, and I was watching what
- 25:24Speaker 1: we were creating on the movie set, and I just
- 25:27Speaker 1: knew it was gonna be something that was special. I
- 25:29Speaker 1: knew it was gonna be something that was gonna touch
- 25:30Speaker 1: people's hearts, that was gonna be a family movie that
- 25:33Speaker 1: everybody that anybody can relate to. And and I'm honestly,
- 25:38Speaker 1: I'm just blessed to be a part of it. It
- 25:40Speaker 1: was a learning experience for me. I was working on it,
- 25:42Speaker 1: but I was I'm I'm a fan of it. You know,
- 25:46Speaker 1: I'm not just like, yeah, I did it. I'm like, yo,
- 25:49Speaker 1: we did something great. They did something, they created something awesome,
- 25:53Speaker 1: and I'm just glad I could have been a part
- 25:54Speaker 1: of it. And then we're gonna shift gears and go
- 25:56Speaker 1: over to the starting opposite all my ELPs loan career,
- 26:00Speaker 1: another brother with a long career, all the way back
- 26:02Speaker 1: with him and Juice when he with Tupac. And then
- 26:05Speaker 1: Michael Eally, you know, he did the movie from me
- 26:07Speaker 1: with Think Like a Man, Think Like a Man too, Kevin.
- 26:09Speaker 1: That was my project. I was executive producer. So that's
- 26:11Speaker 1: what Michael Eally and I developed our relationship and the
- 26:14Speaker 1: movie is entitled The movie is entitled The Devil. You know, yep, uh,
- 26:19Speaker 1: it's It's funny because Michael Eally. I met him in
- 26:22Speaker 1: two thousand and seventeen when I first started acting, and
- 26:25Speaker 1: I was doing background at the time, and I walked
- 26:27Speaker 1: up straight to him. He was doing background of we
- 26:30Speaker 1: were doing Bad. I was doing background of being being
- 26:33Speaker 1: Mary Jane, and I walked you up to him. I
- 26:35Speaker 1: introduced myself and I sound, I'm gonna be working with
- 26:37Speaker 1: you one day. And so, uh, four years later we're
- 26:41Speaker 1: on set together and the w you know, oh my apps,
- 26:44Speaker 1: I mean, he's he's a beast. I learned so much
- 26:47Speaker 1: from watching watching him working with him. I'm the youngest
- 26:51Speaker 1: of four brothers in that movie. He's like the third
- 26:53Speaker 1: oldest and so playing younger brother to somebody that you've
- 26:57Speaker 1: been watching your whole life. Um, and being able to
- 27:01Speaker 1: go back and forth with them, like have conversation, have
- 27:03Speaker 1: this camaraderie. I again, man, just another moment that I
- 27:10Speaker 1: was blessed with that I, Um, I really appreciate. I'm
- 27:14Speaker 1: glad I was able to sneak up in that thing
- 27:17Speaker 1: and do my and do and and hold my own.
- 27:19Speaker 1: You know, it's all learning experience for me. It's all
- 27:22Speaker 1: a growing experience for me, and I'm just glad that
- 27:26Speaker 1: I'm able to do it at a level with some
- 27:28Speaker 1: people who I really admire. Well, you know, I've I've
- 27:32Speaker 1: done over a thousand shows baugh and my staff. No,
- 27:36Speaker 1: I get excited for very few people. You wanted the
- 27:39Speaker 1: people I was excited to to to meet through my conversations.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Your star brother, you got, you got a long career.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Don't stop, just keep working hard. Uh. You know, God
- 27:51Speaker 1: is good, But it's good to even people understand the
- 27:55Speaker 1: value of opportunity. It worked hard for You're seeing yourself through.
- 27:59Speaker 1: You're not being afraid by uncertainty. That stops a lot
- 28:02Speaker 1: of people. But my man, I'm just happy that I
- 28:05Speaker 1: finally got the interview on I'm sorry it took so long.
- 28:09Speaker 1: I'm happy that I was able to do it, and
- 28:10Speaker 1: it was been a blessing having like just being here

- 34:35Speaker 1: always motivating, but they're also so honest, man, because you're
- 34:38Speaker 1: so authentic and you and I won't use the word deep,
- 34:41Speaker 1: but you're just telling the truth. And sometimes when you
- 34:43Speaker 1: tell the truth, it doesn't always have a smile on it.
- 34:46Speaker 1: So why why, that's why, why is there so much
- 34:49Speaker 1: that high level of authenticity when you're telling stories, especially
- 34:53Speaker 1: the written word, you know what it is? I think
- 34:57Speaker 1: I want people to experience freedom, and sometimes, you know,
- 35:03Speaker 1: you gotta show off your scars for other people to
- 35:05Speaker 1: realize that healing is possible. So so I want to
- 35:08Speaker 1: be vulnerable so people can see, like, oh, those are
- 35:11Speaker 1: some of the wrong terms you made, so I don't
- 35:13Speaker 1: have to make them, you know, and then they can
- 35:16Speaker 1: make the right terms. And that's how we grow, and
- 35:18Speaker 1: that's how we learn. Well, I know that I've learned.
- 35:21Speaker 1: I always tell people I wake up dumb. I tell
- 35:24Speaker 1: people I wake up dumb, so I can be willing
- 35:27Speaker 1: to accept information because you wake up thinking you know
- 35:30Speaker 1: it all then guess what. You ignore the the truth
- 35:33Speaker 1: a lot of ways because you you feel that I
- 35:35Speaker 1: got that, you've heard that phrase, well I got that.
- 35:37Speaker 1: I got that. The people wave you off and that
- 35:39Speaker 1: can be a mistake a lot of times because a
- 35:40Speaker 1: lot of people can provide information and you've always, through
- 35:43Speaker 1: your music been an outlet for information. Uh, whether it's
- 35:47Speaker 1: on tour, whether it's in your lyrics, whether it is
- 35:51Speaker 1: as a mentor. Talk about that responsibility in the craze
- 35:54Speaker 1: because it takes you down emotionally a little bit, because
- 35:57Speaker 1: we've been there on our interviews how I can take
- 35:59Speaker 1: you down. But that's a responsibility you're not running from, right, No,
- 36:04Speaker 1: I mean you know, I just know what it's like
- 36:06Speaker 1: to not have those mentors, to not have those voices
- 36:08Speaker 1: to help me when I'm navigating stuff. And so if
- 36:11Speaker 1: I can help people avoid those pitfalls, then then I
- 36:14Speaker 1: want to do it. And plus that's just part of
- 36:16Speaker 1: being a leader. That's that's part of you know, the
- 36:20Speaker 1: mantle that I wear. You know, Uh, everybody says, well,
- 36:23Speaker 1: I ain't no leader. You're leaders if you if you
- 36:25Speaker 1: ahead of somebody, if somebody's behind you, with somebody's following,
- 36:28Speaker 1: you're leading whether you want to or not. So somebody's
- 36:31Speaker 1: always watching you, so you're always leading. So it's just
- 36:33Speaker 1: you know, for me, it's like, all right, well, let
- 36:35Speaker 1: me just take responsibility and uh and just try to
- 36:38Speaker 1: help people so that that they're seiling, my ceiling is
- 36:41Speaker 1: their floor, right. You know the interesting thing about it
- 36:44Speaker 1: when I look at the Craig because I'm a former entertainer,
- 36:47Speaker 1: you know, left IBM pursue the careers to standard comedian.
- 36:52Speaker 1: So I've been on stage in front the twenty thousand people,
- 36:54Speaker 1: I've been on stage in front the five thousand people,
- 36:56Speaker 1: four thousand, three hundred people. There's a certain rush you
- 36:59Speaker 1: get when you get that. And now that he's a businessman,
- 37:02Speaker 1: there's a certain rush he's getting for that. But it's
- 37:04Speaker 1: not like what I saw when I saw him in Houston.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Text that that artist that captivated my spirit and I
- 37:11Speaker 1: didn't even know who you were man, So fueling that
- 37:15Speaker 1: live performance energy that you get there and now being
- 37:19Speaker 1: a business person, how you're navigating both emotions look crazy
- 37:23Speaker 1: that you know what it is. And I just like winning.
- 37:26Speaker 1: You know, everybody's addicted to winning and conquering something and
- 37:30Speaker 1: seeing something in front of you and you know, having
- 37:32Speaker 1: a vision, having a dream and being able to accomplish it.
- 37:35Speaker 1: You know, I like accomplishing goals, and so when you're
- 37:39Speaker 1: connected with a person through music, you feel like you're
- 37:41Speaker 1: accomplishing the goal. And at the same time, when you
- 37:43Speaker 1: make a business decision or strategy and you see it work,
- 37:46Speaker 1: you feel like you're accomplishing a goal. And so that
- 37:48Speaker 1: that's that's the part that's addictive and inspiring for me,
- 37:52Speaker 1: you know, the front part about it when people come
- 37:54Speaker 1: on my show, because you know, I I do my research.
- 37:57Speaker 1: You know that people sent me a little by over.
- 37:59Speaker 1: I want to because I think that the word people
- 38:02Speaker 1: to use is your flowers, you know, showing you your
- 38:04Speaker 1: blessings and so so because a lot of times we
- 38:07Speaker 1: just grind because you're grinder. I know that for a fact.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Every time I talk to you, grinding, like to you
- 38:11Speaker 1: grinding with experience right now, Well protect the bag, you know,
- 38:14Speaker 1: and then next time I talk to you're gonna be
- 38:16Speaker 1: might be the third book we're talking about, but be
- 38:18Speaker 1: acting in a series, because that's show. That's show. M
- 38:22Speaker 1: oh And that's a positive. Folks. Don't don't get me wrong,
- 38:25Speaker 1: because a lot of people say oh, he do too much.
- 38:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you the man long this guard allows
- 38:30Speaker 1: you to be alive. You're supposed to do too much
- 38:33Speaker 1: because there's no time on when you might not be here.
- 38:36Speaker 1: I always tell people I'm over fifty. I say I'm
- 38:38Speaker 1: on the downside of dying, and I tell people that, Hey,
- 38:41Speaker 1: but I ain't gonna live to it, you know, so
- 38:43Speaker 1: I can't ain't got too many more years I can
- 38:45Speaker 1: put in me. But that's an honest talk, lok Craig, Okay,
- 38:47Speaker 1: And I'm not saying that as a defeatist, but the
- 38:51Speaker 1: realization is, I'm gonna put my time in when I
- 38:53Speaker 1: talk a lot, Craiz, I'm gonna put my time in
- 38:55Speaker 1: talking to you. So you're younger at me. Why are
- 38:58Speaker 1: you putting so much time in the crank man? Because
- 39:01Speaker 1: the folks like you this the knowledge you're kicking And
- 39:04Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, well, shoot, that's perspective. Let me go.
- 39:07Speaker 1: And then you know, I have been fortunate. You know,
- 39:10Speaker 1: I bought a building um near downtown Atlanta, and the
- 39:15Speaker 1: gentleman who sold me the property, I was like, man,
- 39:18Speaker 1: why are you selling me this property at this price?
- 39:20Speaker 1: You know, because it was a really good price for
- 39:22Speaker 1: what he was selling it to me. And he said
- 39:24Speaker 1: something very similar. He said, you know, man, I'm upwards
- 39:26Speaker 1: and seventy years old, and I'm not I've made my money.
- 39:31Speaker 1: I want to enjoy it. You know, I'm not gonna
- 39:33Speaker 1: be here for another ten years or twenty years to
- 39:35Speaker 1: see this property turnover and make double what I sold
- 39:38Speaker 1: it to you for. So it's no point in me
- 39:40Speaker 1: holding onto it. And he said, you got time, and
- 39:43Speaker 1: so maximize your time. You hold onto it, you develop it,
- 39:46Speaker 1: and you got twenty years to see it come to
- 39:48Speaker 1: fruition to where you can take that money and go
- 39:50Speaker 1: enjoy it. And so I was like, man, that's inspired.
- 39:53Speaker 1: It's a perspective I've never had. So, man, I gotta yeah,
- 39:55Speaker 1: while I'm here, let's go well, you know, because you know,
- 39:58Speaker 1: I bought a building Atlanta, just like you, and I
- 40:02Speaker 1: just want to put people in perspect her about that,
- 40:04Speaker 1: because you know the CRAI because you don't have to.
- 40:06Speaker 1: I've leased at different places, I have places that we worked,
- 40:10Speaker 1: I had places in spaces and so multiple offices. But
- 40:14Speaker 1: when you tell people just like he just said that
- 40:16Speaker 1: casually I bought the building, man, people ain't ready for
- 40:20Speaker 1: that if you could. People know you can buy a house,
- 40:22Speaker 1: they know you can buy a call, they know you
- 40:24Speaker 1: can buy airline ticket. But when you tell people you
- 40:27Speaker 1: bought the building the crate, they look at you a
- 40:28Speaker 1: little bit different, don't that. And that's a beautiful thing
- 40:34Speaker 1: because that's what as minorities, as people of color, we
- 40:37Speaker 1: gotta have that as part of our vernacular. So it
- 40:40Speaker 1: won't feel strange. It won't feel strange that, you know,
- 40:43Speaker 1: we're invested in stock. It won't feel strange that we
- 40:46Speaker 1: have portfolio financial portfolios. And that leads us back to
- 40:50Speaker 1: why you really came on the show today protect the bag?
- 40:55Speaker 1: How did you come about it? You know experience, you
- 40:57Speaker 1: know get your credit scores, there's a financial education company.
- 41:01Speaker 1: How did you get into the whole process with Experience? Yeah,
- 41:05Speaker 1: So the back story is that I was getting offered
- 41:09Speaker 1: a lot of um, you know, opportunities to be in films,
- 41:13Speaker 1: and I didn't understand the film industry. So I said,
- 41:16Speaker 1: let me back up. And when I learned a little bit,
- 41:18Speaker 1: I said, let me start my own production company. And
- 41:20Speaker 1: once I had a production company, UM Experience had reached
- 41:23Speaker 1: out and said, hey, we like you to host something
- 41:25Speaker 1: for us. Can you do you know any creative production
- 41:29Speaker 1: companies that would be able to pull it off? And
- 41:31Speaker 1: I said, I sure, do you know what? I have
- 41:34Speaker 1: one of mine? And you know, I was like, this
- 41:37Speaker 1: is this perfectly aligned because my production team and myself,
- 41:41Speaker 1: you know, my partner and I have been really heavy
- 41:43Speaker 1: on trying to close this this this wealth gap. And
- 41:48Speaker 1: so obviously experience has some desires. They want to educate
- 41:52Speaker 1: people on credit, and then I have some desires. I
- 41:54Speaker 1: want to see, you know, the black community understand the
- 41:56Speaker 1: power of the dollar, the power of our dollar, and
- 41:59Speaker 1: um how to protected and how to you know, invest it.
- 42:02Speaker 1: And so those things aligned and we work together to
- 42:06Speaker 1: create something that would continue teaching people about how to
- 42:10Speaker 1: invest and protected their money. Now and you know the
- 42:13Speaker 1: whole thing about invest in protecting. Like I said, you know,
- 42:16Speaker 1: I'm older than you. So I've I've spent money that
- 42:20Speaker 1: I shouldn't have spent. But guess what I had it.
- 42:23Speaker 1: You know, I've had an extra car I couldn't drive,
- 42:27Speaker 1: but I had it. And so but one thing I
- 42:30Speaker 1: did have there ever, since I was eighteen, I understood
- 42:33Speaker 1: my credit. I've protected it. I held don't do it, man,
- 42:37Speaker 1: I I understood what a credit card meant for just
- 42:40Speaker 1: somewhere in my mind, my DNA and my process said
- 42:43Speaker 1: credit was important to me, and it's always sustained me
- 42:47Speaker 1: through my whole life. It's been my badge of my
- 42:50Speaker 1: badge of authenticity, my badger be would tell you my
- 42:54Speaker 1: credit scores over eight hundred and and then I don't
- 42:58Speaker 1: even blink. Now, you know, people go, oh, why you
- 43:01Speaker 1: got good? Yeah, I'm a twenty. I average a twenty
- 43:03Speaker 1: on the regular basis, and so that's that's something I
- 43:06Speaker 1: brag about. So when you're trying to do protect the bag,
- 43:09Speaker 1: how do people get involved with the whole process besides
- 43:12Speaker 1: viewing it? Okay, because we see so many commercials now
- 43:16Speaker 1: about you know, how they can raise your score real quick,
- 43:20Speaker 1: you know, but there's a process to that, and that's
- 43:21Speaker 1: what the serious is all about, correct, right, absolutely, Yeah,
- 43:25Speaker 1: it's it's it's really beginning to take some steps, and
- 43:28Speaker 1: we're giving people casual steps to take, you know, telling
- 43:31Speaker 1: people to put their money to work for them, you know,
- 43:33Speaker 1: treat your money like it's an employee. Um. Also telling
- 43:36Speaker 1: people to to not see credit as as consumption but
- 43:40Speaker 1: see it as capital. How can your credit UM, Like
- 43:43Speaker 1: if you have a credit card or whatnot, how is
- 43:46Speaker 1: that building something instead of just consuming you If you're
- 43:49Speaker 1: just consuming money, UM, it's not building your credit. If
- 43:52Speaker 1: you if you have credit with the intention of building
- 43:55Speaker 1: it so that you can do more things. That's a
- 43:57Speaker 1: different mindset to have. UM. Te people to pay their mortgage,
- 44:02Speaker 1: you know, twice a month. Just split the mortgage payment
- 44:05Speaker 1: in half, and what that does is that drives the
- 44:09Speaker 1: interest down that you ended up having to pay. UM
- 44:11Speaker 1: and just simple principles that people can learn to help them.
- 44:15Speaker 1: Teaching people to pay a little bit more on certain bills, UM,
- 44:19Speaker 1: and just helping them understand what it means to even
- 44:21Speaker 1: establish credit, because some folks don't even have credit. They think,
- 44:23Speaker 1: I don't want to touch it because I don't I
- 44:25Speaker 1: don't want no credit. I don't want no problems with it.
- 44:27Speaker 1: But you have to establish it in order to have
- 44:29Speaker 1: good credit. Right now, But let's go back a little
- 44:32Speaker 1: bit before we because you in order to have a
- 44:34Speaker 1: conversation about being successful, then get going. There's a level
- 44:39Speaker 1: of respect because you know, you just can't just start
- 44:41Speaker 1: talking about having good credit or talking about people unless
- 44:44Speaker 1: you have a successful track. I mentioned some of those things,
- 44:47Speaker 1: you know, three million copies and number on the artists
- 44:49Speaker 1: both from Gospel and be all board. But then to
- 44:52Speaker 1: be an employer that responsibility, you know, understanding HR, understanding
- 44:59Speaker 1: the health plan, understanding all these little things. Top. Let's
- 45:02Speaker 1: walk through these steps because we mentioned three companies and
- 45:04Speaker 1: I want to talk about those three companies because that
- 45:06Speaker 1: has played a role, and you being the expert voice. Oh,
- 45:10Speaker 1: protect the bag because people need to understand that, because
- 45:13Speaker 1: they will see you as an artist, and I think
- 45:15Speaker 1: that's disrespectful in a lot of ways because yes, your
- 45:19Speaker 1: famous name got you here, but it's your your entrepreneurial
- 45:24Speaker 1: and your business acuum. It has allowed us to listen
- 45:27Speaker 1: to you take this advice. Reach you reach your Reach Records,
- 45:31Speaker 1: talk about that. Yeah, so Reach Records is an independent label.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Um we are going on. Uh man, I've been doing
- 45:39Speaker 1: this since I was a kid, you know, coming out
- 45:41Speaker 1: of college. And so you know that's that's over fifteen
- 45:44Speaker 1: years of of running a successful label. Um. You know,
- 45:51Speaker 1: by God's grace, we have always been profitable. And that's
- 45:54Speaker 1: just a beautiful thing. Um. One of the things that
- 45:58Speaker 1: I would say is is, uh, I realized early on
- 46:02Speaker 1: that I was not gonna sit around and wait for uh,
- 46:08Speaker 1: somebody to embrace what I was doing. I was just
- 46:11Speaker 1: gonna do it myself. If nobody believed in it, then
- 46:13Speaker 1: it's just let's just do it ourselves, you know. Um
- 46:16Speaker 1: So I remember creating products and and and albums and
- 46:21Speaker 1: people are like, well, it's a little too you know,
- 46:24Speaker 1: street for the church, a little to church for the street.
- 46:28Speaker 1: There's not really a lame for you. Fine, I create
- 46:30Speaker 1: my own land. And that's what we did because I
- 46:33Speaker 1: knew there were other people like me who you know,
- 46:35Speaker 1: would have appreciated what I did. And so we've been
- 46:37Speaker 1: running the label and we made some decisions early on
- 46:40Speaker 1: that really protected us and helped us. And we're brown,
- 46:43Speaker 1: you know, we were young when we started, and we've
- 46:45Speaker 1: just had to grow over the years. And now, like
- 46:47Speaker 1: you said, we got over ten artists and just learning
- 46:49Speaker 1: how to take care of them and learning how to
- 46:51Speaker 1: you know, teach them, and I'm just trying to continue
- 46:53Speaker 1: to pass that on. And then one thing I will
- 46:55Speaker 1: say is, yes, I've learned a lot. My acumen has risen,
- 47:00Speaker 1: But one of the best things I've learned is to
- 47:02Speaker 1: staff my weaknesses. You can't be good at everything. And
- 47:05Speaker 1: so if you know you're not good at it, staff
- 47:08Speaker 1: that person and put them in a position to help
- 47:11Speaker 1: you achieve what you want to achieve. You know, you
- 47:14Speaker 1: didn't have a name on this, you said, a co
- 47:16Speaker 1: own of a major film studio. Yes, okay, keep the name.
- 47:20Speaker 1: We can talk about that and we're gonna keep that
- 47:23Speaker 1: a mystery. And just say your co owner of a
- 47:25Speaker 1: major film studio. I mean you know, you know that
- 47:30Speaker 1: I would go let that slide that. You know, I
- 47:32Speaker 1: got all these titles, but I get to that one
- 47:34Speaker 1: co own off a major film studio. Yeah, so that
- 47:40Speaker 1: I mean that, you know that was really just um,
- 47:45Speaker 1: I don't even know how to put it. Put that
- 47:47Speaker 1: one to you. You know, I guess for me, that
- 47:51Speaker 1: wasn't that wasn't not my agenda. Um, it was more
- 47:55Speaker 1: so knowing the right people and that it put me
- 47:59Speaker 1: in a unique position, um to be a part of
- 48:03Speaker 1: an investment deal. And m and I said, wait a minute,
- 48:07Speaker 1: is this a reality? You know it is? It is
- 48:09Speaker 1: this film studio, which will remain name with I don't
- 48:12Speaker 1: want to put it out there, but um, you know
- 48:16Speaker 1: there was a film studio that has produced a lot
- 48:18Speaker 1: of big films, um films that we all know and
- 48:22Speaker 1: love and UH. And you know, I had a friend
- 48:27Speaker 1: who who said, Hey, I'm about to UH there's a
- 48:32Speaker 1: portion of ownership that is not available right now that's
- 48:35Speaker 1: now made available. And I don't want to take it
- 48:39Speaker 1: all on myself. I don't want to take all of
- 48:41Speaker 1: it on I was. I'm giving it to you as
- 48:44Speaker 1: an opportunity. And let me tell you something. I'm literally
- 48:47Speaker 1: the I'm literally the only African American UH owner within
- 48:53Speaker 1: that group. And so that in and of itself is
- 48:57Speaker 1: amazing to me. You know, congratulations. But I had to
- 49:01Speaker 1: teach you on that because I do. I knew that
- 49:03Speaker 1: was a lack of a title left for a reason,
- 49:05Speaker 1: but I had to pool as much information I can
- 49:08Speaker 1: get out of you. But I want to slide over
- 49:10Speaker 1: to the you know when you made that bold statement
- 49:13Speaker 1: to Experience that do you know a company that can
- 49:17Speaker 1: produce this for us? And that's what what's about to
- 49:19Speaker 1: slide right now. Three Strange Films. That's the production company,
- 49:22Speaker 1: that's your production company. Tell me about that and how
- 49:25Speaker 1: did the production actually work to produce this series for
- 49:29Speaker 1: Experience Call of Protective Back that's on YouTube. Yeah, so UM,
- 49:34Speaker 1: three strand film. As I said before, UM, somebody, a
- 49:38Speaker 1: major UH director had come to me and said, I
- 49:40Speaker 1: want to make a movie about your life. And I
- 49:43Speaker 1: didn't know anything about what that. Man. I didn't understand
- 49:45Speaker 1: the points. I didn't understand the royalty system, I didn't
- 49:47Speaker 1: understand the contracts. And so I had to go meet
- 49:50Speaker 1: with a UM an attorney who was in the film industry,
- 49:54Speaker 1: and it was like, man, this is a lot of
- 49:56Speaker 1: heavy lifting. I'm coming from the music industry and I
- 49:58Speaker 1: just don't want to be I know how artists get
- 50:00Speaker 1: taken advantage of, and I don't want to be taking
- 50:02Speaker 1: advantage of in the film industry. And so the more
- 50:06Speaker 1: I studied, the more I realized that this might be
- 50:09Speaker 1: something we can do on our own. You know, no
- 50:11Speaker 1: one can tell our stories better than we can. And
- 50:14Speaker 1: so so UM one of my good buddies was a
- 50:18Speaker 1: director and he had been doing a lot of independent films,
- 50:21Speaker 1: and I said, hey, man, why don't we partner up
- 50:24Speaker 1: and UM and create You know, we even known each
- 50:27Speaker 1: other since you know, our college days. Let's partner up
- 50:30Speaker 1: and create a production company. And so we started small.
- 50:34Speaker 1: We started producing a few music videos, and then from
- 50:36Speaker 1: music videos, to some small documentaries and then that moved
- 50:39Speaker 1: on to um our first UH major project, which is
- 50:43Speaker 1: a film we're working on now. But um but the
- 50:46Speaker 1: experience thing came across my plate and I was like, Hey,
- 50:48Speaker 1: we got the capacity and the talent, let's do it right.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Whether that that's that's a beautiful thing because of the
- 50:54Speaker 1: fact that you know, we have to control our stories
- 50:58Speaker 1: and we're in the era or now you're in the
- 50:59Speaker 1: era down with streaming outlets of u uh in the
- 51:03Speaker 1: demand for content from black people, people of color, African
- 51:08Speaker 1: Americans now. But we're talking about Protector bag. You know,
- 51:12Speaker 1: what are your thoughts were not because dorn main conversation,
- 51:14Speaker 1: that's all I talk about trying to close that gap.
- 51:16Speaker 1: I bring all type of c p as, accountants and
- 51:19Speaker 1: motivational people like you on the show. But there's a
- 51:22Speaker 1: wealth disparity out there that exists to long racial lines.
- 51:25Speaker 1: What are your thoughts and what is your role in
- 51:27Speaker 1: trying to close that disparity? Yeah, for me, part of
- 51:32Speaker 1: it is education, right, so we can't close that gap
- 51:35Speaker 1: without education and and then helping us understand the power
- 51:40Speaker 1: of our dollar. So African Americans, the black community represents
- 51:44Speaker 1: one point for trillion dollars in buying power. And what
- 51:48Speaker 1: that means for anybody who doesn't understand what that means
- 51:51Speaker 1: is that means we have one point for trillion dollars
- 51:56Speaker 1: that we can put anywhere we want. And so people
- 52:00Speaker 1: are competing for our dollars, and we are not putting
- 52:04Speaker 1: our dollars back into ourselves. We're not investing in ourselves,
- 52:07Speaker 1: and so our money goes right into our pockets and
- 52:10Speaker 1: into another community. And so that hinders black businesses from thriving,
- 52:14Speaker 1: That hinders um our kids from having their college paid for,
- 52:19Speaker 1: That hinders um you know, us investing. Another thing is
- 52:23Speaker 1: is the beauty and healthcare. You know, we represent four
- 52:27Speaker 1: cent of the population, but represent of beauty purchases, but
- 52:33Speaker 1: only one percent of the stock market. Now, how is that?
- 52:38Speaker 1: That's That's the type of disparity that I feel like
- 52:40Speaker 1: we need to have education on and and begin to
- 52:43Speaker 1: to take some steps and some strides. A lot of
- 52:45Speaker 1: people say, you know, uh, well, we should buy black, Yes,
- 52:50Speaker 1: but we should also invest and we should also um
- 52:54Speaker 1: figure out how to do good business. And we should
- 52:56Speaker 1: also if we're gonna buy black, let's create businesses that
- 52:59Speaker 1: are good businesses and have good business models and business
- 53:02Speaker 1: plans and help each other through that so that that
- 53:05Speaker 1: this thing can be more sustainable long term. Right right now,
- 53:08Speaker 1: you can catch the series Protect the Bag every Tuesday

- 53:47Speaker 1: get in with the small expectation. He looks at the
- 53:50Speaker 1: opportunity and he's a visionary. And if you know a visionary,
- 53:54Speaker 1: a visionary always looks at the long the long run.
- 53:57Speaker 1: You know that's important. If you see a penny, he's
- 53:59Speaker 1: looking around where nicolet on the ground. It's most of
- 54:01Speaker 1: it what PENNI is the Nicholson place, because that's how

- 54:56Speaker 1: We're trying to change that wealth at racial gap, especially
- 54:59Speaker 1: for people, and you're one of the voices my board
- 55:02Speaker 1: as cash and get him on board. And said more people.
