Latest / Life For Toledo / Quiet Time Matters

- 0:00I'm thinking today about quiet time, not a verse
- 0:03per se, but a time, like Jesus set the example
- 0:06to do, where you get alone with God. There are
- 0:09a lot of spiritual disciplines that we're called
- 0:10to enact, like prayer, meditation, Bible memorization,
- 0:14intaking the Word, study, journaling, all kinds
- 0:17of things like that. that you can do, and you
- 0:19get alone with God, and you use those things,
- 0:22and you grow in your relationship with the Lord.
- 0:24And I know that God goes with us when we go out,
- 0:26and that you can pray to and with God while you're
- 0:28watching TV, but let's be realistic, you probably
- 0:31won't. Or if you do, you're probably not blocking
- 0:33out a lot of time to think about Him or talk
- 0:35to Him or really focusing on Him during that
- 0:37time. So I encourage you to take a quiet time
- 0:39and get alone with the Lord. I was specifically
- 0:41thinking about Jonah. You know how Jonah was.
- 0:43He was speaking on behalf of God. He was hearing
- 0:45from God and speaking the words of God. But then
- 0:48when God wanted him to speak to the people of
- 0:50Nineveh, he didn't want to do that. So he ran.
- 0:52So he winds up in the sea. Then he winds up in
- 0:53a fish. And from the fish, he says, while I was
- 0:56fainting away, I remembered the Lord. And my
- 0:59prayer came to you into your holy temple. See,
- 1:02Jonah went to the bottom of the sea to pray to
- 1:05the Lord. And now he's praying from the belly
- 1:07of the fish. And he says to God, he says, I will
- 1:09sacrifice to you with a voice of thanksgiving
- 1:12that which I have vowed I will pay. Salvation
- 1:15is from the Lord. Let me encourage you to block
- 1:17out some time to spend with God. Do it every
- 1:20day, every day part, every meal. And just meals
- 1:23is not enough. Do it every time you can block
- 1:26out time to spend time with God. He's that important.
- 1:29And he thinks that you're that important.
