- Todd: Welcome everyone to Todd's world beers with Jesus I'm Todd carries with me like we do every week We do two shows we do the wildly opinionated news hour which dropped yesterday And if you didn't listen go listen to it and find it on YouTube's our big channel I will tell you this guys I was with somebody my my daughter Lauren was having a had a gig last night pastor Darrell was there Yo, It's Carrie: Hello. Congrats. Todd: ⁓ but anyway, we hope that you guys love it. We'd love to hear as we're going through things, especially on Beers with Jesus, well really both, but especially Beers with Jesus, if we're hitting some areas that maybe are a little unique, maybe we're approaching things in a little different way than you've heard classically at whatever your church is or your faith tradition. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Okay. Todd: then drop us a comment. We would love to talk about it. Drop us a comment on YouTube, Apple, Spotify, wherever. I'm way more likely to see it on YouTube and Spotify and X. Apple, don't exactly know how to get into and see comments. So that's not something I could probably work on. But anyway, we'd be happy to hear what you have to say about some of the things that we think, like about the tree of life equaling Jesus, about God appearing to create animals one by one, maybe. Yo, It's Carrie: Okay. Sure. Todd: Some ideas like that that aren't necessarily super textual based. It's not like it's going to make the end of the world and your salvation or anything, but they're kind of interesting. And we'd love to carry on the conversation a little farther with you guys. So if you have more ideas that we don't hit, send them, you know, we'd love to hear it. So how you been Carrie? Good. You're ready for Genesis five. That's where we're at. Yo, It's Carrie: Great. Yeah, that's kind of what we like to do here. I've been great. Been great. I am so excited about Genesis 5. Todd: Kerry's been waiting all, ever since I told her we were gonna do Genesis, she's been waiting for a genealogy and she finally got her genealogy. Patrick, not skipping it. We're going. We're gonna see how we do. All right. Who's reading? You're reading today, Kerry. Is that fair? Yo, It's Carrie: Yep. Here we are. And we have arrived. Yep. We're not skimming. We're not skimming. All right. ⁓ gosh. You know, I should have practiced names and stuff. I know some of them. I'll be fine. Todd: You're as good or better with the names like first take than I am. Genesis five. Yo, It's Carrie: I'll be fine. It's fine. Okay. So we read out of the message because it's Todd's favorite. And I like the heading on chapter five. It says the family tree of the human race. Todd: Yeah. If you have any other translations, just burn them. Hahaha! Mm-hmm. Fun fun. Seems like it'd be important. Yo, It's Carrie: That's kind of cool. Right. Yeah. Are you ready? Todd: Yes. Yo, It's Carrie: This is the family tree of the human race. When God created the human race, he made it Godlike with the nature akin to God. He created both male and female and blessed them, the whole human race. When Adam was 130 years old, he had a son who was just like him, his very spirit and image, and named him Seth. After the birth of Seth, Adam lived another 800 years having more sons and daughters. Adam lived a total of 930 years and he died. When Seth was 105 years old, he had Enosh. After Seth had Enosh, he lived another 807 years, having more sons and daughters. Seth lived a total of 912 years and he died. When Enosh was 90 years old, he had Kenan. After he had Kenan, He lived another 815 years, having more sons and daughters. Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and he died. When Kenan was 70 years old, he had mahalalel. Did I add a sub? OK, I was like, did I add a syllable? But I think that's right, mahalalel. After he had mahalalel, he lived another 840 years, having more sons and daughters. Todd: Good job. I think that's it. I think you're right. Yo, It's Carrie: Kenan lived a total of 910 years and he died. When Mahalalel was 65 years old, he had Jared. After he had Jared, he lived another 830 years, having more sons and daughters. Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years and he died. When Jared was 162 years old, he had Enoch. After he had Enoch, he lived another 800 years. having more sons and daughters. Jared lived a total of 962 years and he died. Now all of you need to pay attention to the next part, right? When Enoch was 65 years old, he had Methuselah. Enoch walked steadily with God. ⁓ After he had Methuselah, he lived another 300 years, having more sons and daughters. Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked steadily with God, and then one day he was simply gone. God took him. Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked steadily with God, and then one day he was simply gone. God took him. Todd: Hmm. Hmm. Yo, It's Carrie: When Methuselah was 187 years old, had Lamech. After he had Lamech, he lived another 782 years. Methuselah lived a total of 969 years and he died. When Lamech was 182 years old, he had a son. He named him Noah, saying, this one will give us a break. Todd: They make, yeah, I don't know. Yo, It's Carrie: from the hard work of farming the ground that God cursed. After Lamech had Noah, he lived another 595 years, having more sons and daughters. Lamech lived a total of 777 years and he died. When Noah was 500 years old, he had Shem, Ham, and Jopeth. Thank you. Todd: Good job, Kerry. Nice work. All those names. Yo, It's Carrie: I will, the names, I will say the message actually lays it out. feel like a little, kind of a little nicer, right? Yeah. Interesting. Todd: Yeah, it's not as big a big a big a it gives you a little bit more. Yeah. A little more color. Well, I was thinking, cause I liked, I liked what you said too. I liked how they called it the family tree of the human race. You know what I mean? Cause it's like, what are, what are family trees for? They kind of give you a sense of, of where you came from. You know what I mean? They're, they're stretching your history, your ancestors out. Yo, It's Carrie: of the human race. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Todd: over the generations, there may be stories in there of certain ancestors. You know, there's, there's, there's highlights, obviously. And, but, but the purpose is to give us, to, to give us a sense of identity. You know what I mean? And, and there's a certain emotional significance. So we're not limited to this. Well, back then it was a lot longer span of years, but to this short span of years, you know what I mean? As a matter of fact, I want to do something we don't do a lot on Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Right. Yeah, completely. Right. Mm hmm. Right. Okay. Todd: Beer's fact, we almost never do it, but I'm going to share. isn't a clip, unfortunately, no AOC. but this is, this is a, a bar graph that I talked about last week and what I want people to see this, this kind of helped me because up at the top here, you've got Adam. So what it's given you is it's giving you the life spans. Yo, It's Carrie: Okay. It's okay. Okay. Okay. Todd: Of the people mentioned in this Genesis five genealogy from Adam to Noah. Yo, It's Carrie: Okay, cool. Todd: There were between the fall and the flood about 1650 years. This is a long time. mean, that's almost not quite, it's about three quarters of the time that Christ has died, you know, since he died and resurrected. So it's significant chunk, is my point. A fair amount's going on. I think when you look at the Bible, I think it's fair if you think of, Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Okay. One, two, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, Mm-hmm. Todd: If you think of, let's go back to YouTube, YouTube chapters. was going to say bookends, but so few people have books anymore. But if you think of like bookends or chapters or however you want to think of it, I think that, that, that this period. It begins at the very end of Genesis three. So that's the first kind of bookend. So God expelled them from the garden of Eden and sent them to work the ground, the same dirt out of which they've been made. And God puts the chair of them. So the falls, the beginning. Yo, It's Carrie: Okay. Mm-hmm. Todd: And then I think the other bookend on this period is actually in Genesis six. And, it's not in verses one through four, though we're going to hit those for the record guys next week. We're going to talk about Genesis six, one through four, which is the Nephilim, the sons of God, marrying daughters and men giants, all of the wild stuff that seems to be very, very popular right now. We're going to spend a whole show on that. but. Yo, It's Carrie: ⁓ yeah. Okay. Okay. Okay. It'll be fun. Todd: If you go to Genesis 6, 5, I think that's the other book in it says, saw that the human evil was out of control. People thought evil, imagined evil, evil, evil, evil from morning till night. God was sorry he had made the human race in the first place. It broke his heart. God said, I'll get rid of my ruined creation, make a clean sweep, people, animals, snakes, bugs and birds, the works. I'm sorry I made them. So that's that other book in. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. ⁓ Yay. Todd: Now, right after that, we're going to see, but Noah was different. God liked what he saw in Noah. So we'll deal with Noah in a couple of weeks in his own time. But I think those are the two bookends. It's the fall and then it's just this evil has gotten this human civilization society has just, it's gotten out of control evil. And the picture I think is that it's way worse than now, even since, and you can think of all the horrible things that have happened. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Todd: since the flood, the picture is still that when people were living this long, they... For the purpose of this story, guys, we're taking the Bible at its word. And that's what we talked about last week. So, story says that Adam lived 930 years, that Seth lived... And so we're going with it. Right, so we're gonna take them at their word. The idea would be that they were so much closer to the original creation, genetics gene pools were pure. Yo, It's Carrie: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Right. Yeah, who's to say they didn't? Okay. Mm-hmm. Todd: And so they come out and then you give these guys seven, 800 years to just make babies and have babies and they're populating, you know what I mean? The population's going crazy because these people are living so long. But on the other side of it, seems to be that they didn't get better the longer that they, in other words, 800 years didn't give them an extra 700 years in which to find God. in which to conform their lives to God's plan. It seems like it went the other way. It seemed like evil multiplied. Like the longer these people lived, the more evil multiplied and varied. And as they went through their life, they're finding all kinds of new tastes for all these things that God created, but he didn't create to be tasted in those ways. Do you know what I mean? Yo, It's Carrie: Right. Okay. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So you said this covers, you said like 1600, 1650 years. Todd: 1650 years from the fall to the flood. Yo, It's Carrie: Okay, so that's, it's, we're looking at 10 generations here. Well, and it's not the end of his, whatever. It's a long time, 10 generations, but 10 generations now, just to put it in perspective, is like 250 to 300 years. It's a lot different. So, okay, so what you're proposing is that maybe living this long, because we are, because we are flawed after the fall, that we just, Todd: Mm-hmm. This was a lot different. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yo, It's Carrie: turn into kind of a cesspool of humanity, like at its worst. If we're given too much time, we really just gravitate to the bad stuff. Todd: I think so. There's this over, I think in a lot of people, they have this idea, like they look at technology now and they look at progress and whatever. And there's this idea that if we can just keep following this road of scientific progress and technology, that eventually we'll perfect our way out of a lot of these devices, right? AI is going to cure cancer, you know, whatever, but there's those kinds of things. ⁓ well, this world's going to die, but Elon's going to get us to Mars. You know, that kind of thing that if we can just keep going, we're going to follow it. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Okay. Todd: But that doesn't seem to be the story of the Bible. It seems to be the exact opposite of the story of the Bible. Because while Cain's line is flourishing and there's all these people and there's all these technological developments, I might argue that there was as many or more that... It's certainly possible that technological developments of the pre-flood society were greater than ours. That blows a lot of people's mind. I think it's possible. And I think that a flood would wipe out everything to where you wouldn't have any Yo, It's Carrie: Okay. Mm-hmm. Todd: I think if we had a worldwide flood now, there'd be nothing left. Nobody would ever know. It wouldn't be buildings. There wouldn't be, you know what I mean? I think the signs would be gone. God levels it. In a way, the floods kind of a picture of like what he did with Jerusalem in AD 70 where he's leveling that institutionalism, but it's that same kind of idea. You know what I mean? Although the difference is going to be that when we, when we come back after the flood, you're going to see God introduce actually human institutions. Yo, It's Carrie: Okay. What kind of okay. Mm-hmm. Todd: You're going to see them introduce human government. You're going to see kind of religion in a more institutionalized, structured way developed. And so what you see is that God's, it almost seems like God's trying to put some guardrails up. Yo, It's Carrie: I was going to say it sounds like setting up guardrails where exactly. Todd: Yeah, like the first 1650 years, really weren't any guard rails. It was like just prosper, go out, you know, and there was a sense of God, clearly, and God was working with people, but it seems like as generations went on, they moved farther and farther and farther away from what God had designed rather than kind of. Yo, It's Carrie: Okay. Mm-hmm. Right. Todd: Circling back around we like to think a life that it'll circle back around if we can just follow the road long enough We'll come that doesn't seem to be the case seems like life is more like a tree It spreads out as it goes evils the same way. Maybe good's the same way in some ways But without Jesus, there's not enough good in us to find out Yo, It's Carrie: Yeah, and I think it's. Right. I was gonna say, and I don't even know if it's like, ⁓ I don't even think that we're all on the same path. I think some people, I think instead of us all being on a track like towards one destination, like if we're all on this together for long enough, I think it's that some of us are on the right path and some aren't. Yeah. Even though like, you know, we can't do it alone. I just think, yeah, some of us are, some of us are seeking God and some aren't. Todd: Yeah. Right, that makes sense. In The Great Divorce, I don't have it in front of me. See, this list does an introduction. It's a great book, by the way. Guys, you should read it if you haven't. Short book, too. It's only 100 pages. But he talks about how evil, both good and evil, as they move away from their source, that idea, they kind of branch out. They become... Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Just trying to see if I have it right here. I think it's in the other room. Mm-hmm. Todd: Different not only not only is evil become more different from good it becomes different from other kinds of evil and it just it kind of becomes this stew and that's that picture you've got where god's like this thing unchecked With these people living 900 eight 900 years This is a bad sitch like it's just moving from bad to worse is kind of the idea that you get violent It's just yeah, go ahead gary Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Wow. This might be the one time Todd feels that maybe some institutions and some guardrails might be a positive development. It is. Todd: Well, that's what we see. Yeah, that's what God does. So it's kind of interesting. And the, and the institutions and the guard rails have an impact. They, they also have some of their, they, they bring some of their own evils with them. You know what I mean? But, but they do have an impact. It seems like to keep humanity a little bit more within, within. So human government, Yo, It's Carrie: their own challenges, right. Mm-hmm. Todd: You're not just murdering each other willy-nilly now because the government is stepping in and providing some order from the chaos. Do you know what I mean? And so I think it's that kind of thing. The other thing that's interesting about this is when you look at where Noah is, you look at when Adam died, they're not that far apart. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Yeah. That's so wild. Yeah. Todd: You know what I mean? Like we think all these, how could these stories of creation and this stuff been passed on? Well, it wouldn't have had to be passed on that to that many people. You know what I mean? When you look at this, when you look at. Yo, It's Carrie: Right. Be like, we're all going to Adams for Sunday supper, you know? Todd: Yeah, I mean, it kind of is like that. Enoch, clearly Adam was alive for most of Enoch's life. That's just kind of an interesting idea. That means that Enoch could go and talk to Adam and get a first hand take on what happened to creation. Like that's wild. That means Noah had second hand takes on God's creation. Like that's, that's kind of crazy. That, that, that, Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. That really is. Wow, that is crazy. Todd: Speaks to probably some of the accuracy of the story. Yo, It's Carrie: pretty cool. The other thing I like how you described this, I'm glad you've left the graph up this long. So, well, you described like, okay, you described it like bookends. Atoms, you know, at one end is when the fall occurs. And then when the flood comes, the other end, although it's destruction, it's also renewal. So you've got on one end, right, yeah, you've got Todd: haha Mm-hmm. That's a new beginning, Yo, It's Carrie: And I feel like from that renewal, I feel like it almost like happened again. So when Jesus arrived, so you got the destruction of the flood, you know, the renewal at that time, but then you have Jesus's arrival. That's like another renewal, a new phase of. Todd: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yo, It's Carrie: God's church on earth. Right. Todd: It's almost like a new world, if you think about it. Like when you say Adam, you compare Adam and Noah, well, Adam and Eve are kind of put into this new world. Noah is the same thing, because whatever happened during the flood, mean, most of it's gone. This is a new world he's embarking on. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. new world. Then you've got when Jesus comes, it's a new world again. He changes everything. Todd: again. He's taken everything that was upside down and making it right side up and he's making a path to God and a path to life that the institutions failed at. Yo, It's Carrie: Yes. And then I'm going to put that, yes, completely. And now, like everyone says, that's where we are now. Like we are now waiting for the end. We're waiting for the second coming, for Jesus to come back. And I feel like that's going to be another thing. Yes. So it's kind of interesting. So I like your bookends thing. I think it's like, yeah, these bookends. And then it's just, keeps going. There are these eras, these... ⁓ Todd: Mm-hmm. And recreate again. 100 % Kerry, exactly on that. Yo, It's Carrie: major renewals and recreations. Todd: It seemed to be timeframes in which God's working. Or you're right, like almost recreating. And that's a, I love that picture. I wanted to focus on Enoch, because Enoch seems to have been the bright spot in this entire, well, mean, Noah too, but Noah's gonna get his whole thing. And of course, Adam got his whole thing at the beginning. And Seth, obviously, is a bright spot. This entire line, but it's Enoch. Yo, It's Carrie: Yeah, it's interesting. ⁓ OK. Right, right. Mm-hmm. They all play their part, but. Todd: But they all died except Enoch, which I think is interesting. Yo, It's Carrie: Right. I that was so interesting. Todd: And Enoch, to give you an idea, when we talk next week about Genesis 6, 1 through 4, we're going to get into the book of Enoch a little bit. It isn't a biblical, it's not been canonized, it's not recognized as a biblical canon, except in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, which I know sounds a weird. There's one little region Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. ⁓ cool. ⁓ They say the Ethiopian Bible has Enoch, but does the Catholic Bible not have Enoch? Okay. Todd: Yes. No, it doesn't. It's an apocalyptic type book. uses Enoch's name. It wasn't written by Enoch. It was written by a collection of authors probably two or three hundred years before Jesus was born, so second or third century BC. But it is quoted by both Peter and Jude in the New Testament. And so it's given some heft. They considered it, I think, if not scripture. Yo, It's Carrie: Okay. Mm-hmm. Todd: Second temple writing, CS Lewis kind of stuff if that makes sense. You know what I mean? Like it might not, it might be a fuzz down from scripture, but he's pretty good, you know? Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. I'll fuzz down, I like that. Todd: But my point is that in the first book with the Watchers is where you get all of the craziness about the Nephilim and aliens and all kinds of stuff. And we're going to get into all of that next week, guys. But I want to focus just on Enoch's life and what we know of Enoch from the Bible this week, because in this genealogy, in this family tree, Enoch seems like the one. Well, he didn't die. It's a miracle. There's only two people in the Bible. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Right. Todd: That didn't, that didn't die. Even Jesus died. Jesus just rose again. Yo, It's Carrie: This would be a great trivia question. I just thought that as you said that, it'd be a great trivia. I do. Elijah. Todd: Do you know who the other one is? Who? You're right, 100%. Good job, Kerry. Yo, It's Carrie: Thank you. I looked into it a teensy bit because you said you were studying this morning. Anyway. Elijah? Right. They didn't suffer death. Todd: Elijah and Enoch are the two. Enoch, Enoch we have, yeah, now the Elijah story we have a lot more detail on. The Enoch story we don't have as much. In the Elijah story, I'm going to summarize it for you because I don't want to take time to read it all. Yo, It's Carrie: Okay. Mm-hmm. Thank you, because I don't know the details of it. Todd: Elijah was a great prophet one of the one of the greatest prophets in in in Israel's history He he would sit on mountaintops and he'd have entire companies of 50 men struck dead with lightning I mean we're talking The stuff a lot of the things that you see in witness my book Those ideas kind of come from Elijah Elijah was like a wonder working big-time powerful prophet Yo, It's Carrie: Okay. Todd: Who was doing violent crazy things and you know what I mean? Proclaiming droughts and just, but then he's involved in little things too. It's good. I love Kings and I love the story of Elijah and Elisha. Elisha was who he was kind of Elijah's right hand man. He's who Elijah he's who God provides Elijah Elijah to carry on the prophetic ministry once, once Elijah is gone. So, so he's kind of, he's a mentor to Elisha. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Todd: It's a little confusing for people because it's Elijah, Elisha. Well, when it's time, when Elijah knows that it's time that God's gonna take him, he tries to get Elisha to like go do some other errands, but Elisha has been given a revelation and he's been told by some other prophets, some other sons of prophets, whatever you do, God's gonna take your master today, don't let him out of your sight. So over and over again, Yo, It's Carrie: Right. Mm-hmm. ⁓ Todd: Three different times, Elijah tries to get Elisha to go do something else so he can kind of get away. Elisha won't leave him. Elisha says, I will not leave you regardless. So then, and he knows that God's gonna take Elijah that day, his mentor, and Elijah says to him, essentially, what can I ask God for you? When I'm gone, what do you want? And Elisha says, I want, Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Todd: to be twice as powerful as you were. Essentially, it's like a ballsy, it's like a ballsy claim, man. Yo, It's Carrie: Wow. I mean, it's good to pray big, but I feel like that was probably not. Todd: It's like the Michael Jordan of the Old Testament here. It's like, I wanna do twice as much as you did. Yo, It's Carrie: want to be twice as good. I, I, yeah. Okay. Todd: Elijah then says, man, that's a tough one. That's what he says. That's asking a lot. But if you, if you're with me and you see when God takes me, you'll get what you've asked for. That's what he, that's what Elijah tells Elisha. And they cross the Jordan river and ⁓ a fiery chariot. The idea is a chariot, heavenly chariot driven by angels. Yo, It's Carrie: You don't know what you're asking. Yeah Okay. Todd: comes down, Elijah's picked up kind of in a whirlwind of fire and taken up to heaven and never dies. And Elisha watches the whole thing. Elisha picks up the garment, the cloak that Elijah had, and he rolls it up. And he's standing at the Jordan River. And he says, if the God, if the God of Elijah is still with me, split this water. And he hits the water. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Todd: with his rolled up robe and the water splits on both sides just like the Red Sea. And he walks across and he tells the other prophets, he says, listen, they're like, we gotta go look for Elijah. And he's like, God took him, he's gone. You don't need to go look for him. They're like, no, we need to go look. And he's like, okay, go look. So they go out and they look for a few weeks, they come back, they're like, we can't find him. He's like, yeah, I know, because God took him. Okay, that's the long and short of Elijah and Elisha. What happened with Enoch was a little different. Yo, It's Carrie: Wow. Okay. Okay. Todd: With Enoch, what it says is that Enoch walks steadily with God. So when Enoch was 65, he had Methuselah. Enoch walks steadily with God. After he had Methuselah, he lived another 300 years, having more sons and daughters. Enoch lived a total of 365 years, far less than most of the people of his day and age, like a third less, but he's walking with God. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Right. Mm-hmm. Todd: And it says, Enoch walked steadily with God and then one day he was simply gone. God took him. Just gone. then one day he was simply gone. God took him. Just gone. Now, if you go to Hebrews 11, five, Hebrews is the hall of faith. We're to do this on and off throughout the Old Testament or throughout Genesis. ⁓ Hebrews 11, ⁓ five and six, by an act of faith, Enoch ⁓ skipped death completely. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Hahaha Todd: They looked all over and couldn't find him because God had taken him. That sounds a lot like Elijah. You know what I mean? We know on the basis of reliable testimony that before he was taken, he pleased God. How did Enoch please God? it that he had his life in such great order that he was so concerned about doing right that he aligned his life to where God was like, yes. Yo, It's Carrie: Right? Yep. Todd: You've made it. that how did he work his way into favor with God? What do you think? Yo, It's Carrie: ⁓ I don't know, we're just told that he walked with God. What did he say? Steadily. Walked steadily with God. I mean, I almost feel like at this point in the Bible, that could be literal. Like Enoch and God could be walking around together is kind of how I feel. So it's almost like they're just really close. I like Enoch and God are like this. Todd: 100 % I agree with you. The author of Hebrews goes on to say, we know on the basis of reliable testimony that before he was taken, he pleased God. Then he says, it's impossible to please God apart from faith. It's faith. It's faith at the beginning. It's faith at the end. It's faith the whole way through. It's faith that gets us right with God. Okay. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God, Yo, It's Carrie: Okay. There you go. Todd: must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to respond to those who seek him. We've talked about that passage before, but that's specifically about Enoch. So what did Enoch, what were the two overriding factors of Enoch's life? Well, he believed that God existed, he walked with him, he knew God. Eternal life is to know God, John 17, that's what we talk about. It's not to get to heaven, it's to know God. Yo, It's Carrie: There you go. Okay. Todd: Enoch was already partaking in that eternal life here and boom, God takes him to heaven. And, it's by faith. It's still Christ who justifies them. Does that make sense? Even though he's looking ahead to a deliverer that God's gonna send to cover it. Make some sense? I should take this graph down. I've this graph up forever. Sorry guys. Hope you liked that graph. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Right. Sure. Okay. Yeah. No, you know, it was, it was interesting. I kept looking at it. So, So, Enoch. Todd: Enoch through faith, I like how God has a couple exceptions too. Like he says it's pointed on a man wants to die and then the judgment except for Enoch and Elijah. You know what I mean? Yo, It's Carrie: That's all, It's interesting. Yeah. He's like, yeah, yeah, I'd like their company right now. Todd: I know that's kind of how it is. It's like, I think you're right when you're picturing God physically walking with Enoch. Yo, It's Carrie: It's kind of what it seems like. I mean, yeah, the way that walking steadily with God, it doesn't say, yeah, twice, it says it twice. Todd: in Yeah In jude it talks about enic jude is the the little book before revelation Second to the last book of the bible that only has one chapter. It doesn't even have chapter things. It's just one little guy But he talks about enic and jude first peter talks about enic too. ⁓ but what he says about enic in jude, ⁓ 14 through 16 the verses enic the seventh after adam prophesied of them Yo, It's Carrie: ⁓ really? It only has one? Okay. Okay. Todd: Look, the master comes with thousands of holy angels to bring judgment against them all, convicting each person of every defiling act of shameless sacrilege. Of every dirty word they have spewed of their pious filth. They are the complainers, the belly-acres, grabbing for the biggest piece of the pie, talking big, saying anything they think will get them ahead. But remember, dear friends, that the apostles of our Master Jesus Christ told us this would happen. In the last days, there will be people who don't take things seriously anymore. They treat them like a joke. So you get this idea of Enoch being a prophet, and we're going to see this in the book of Enoch next week, but he prophesies this coming judgment of God, the flood, what ends up being the flood. so Enoch is this kind of pillar. In fact, I don't think it's unreasonable to think that Yo, It's Carrie: ⁓ okay, okay. Todd: When God sees something in Noah, that's that family tree at work. That's that line of faith at work through Enoch, through Seth, through Adam. Do you know what I mean? So even when the world's worse than it is now, worse than we can think of it, even as evil is multiplying all over, God's got a line of faith that he's working through and he's got righteous people. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Right. Mm-hmm. Right. Todd: that still care about him and he's still in the dirt and he still provides a way. We're going to see that with a flood. What do think, Kerry? Those are some of my thoughts bouncing around. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. I like those thoughts. I looked up, no, I do. And obviously by the genealogy and now the culture, this culture, the firstborn son is important. And in the genealogy, the firstborn son is the only one named by name. ⁓ So I was curious what Enoch meant. looked it up and ⁓ yeah, Enoch, means dedicated. Todd: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yo, It's Carrie: consecrated and so ⁓ now I don't know you can you can argue whether these names like caused them to have like a particular destiny or if they Todd: You know, I read that in some of my study that the name, like Noah, Noah means comfort. yeah, that there is something, like I said, real significant about names, especially back then, especially when God's so on the scene with people. I think you're right about that. Yo, It's Carrie: Right and peace like no peace. Mm-hmm. So it's interesting, yeah, if he's dedicated, consecrated to God, it's interesting that he got spared death and God took him early. It's interesting. ⁓ Todd: interesting that they were just out looking for him and he was gone. Yo, It's Carrie: Yeah. He's gone. It's like. Todd: But I think that I was going back and forth with Grok on this this morning. I that sounds crazy because Grok's AI. But I feel like the Elijah and the Enoch stories, they're just such good parallels. I feel like if there's a lot more detail in the Elijah story, we can assume that there was some of that laid into the Enoch story. What I mean by that is that God always has a witness that he leaves. And even if there wasn't an eyewitness to Enoch being taken by God, Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Okay. Todd: I got to believe that within this godly line, this faithful remnant, that maybe it was by a piece that God gave them, maybe it was by revelation, by dream, whatever, but I think they knew, because he says in Hebrews 5 that it was on the testimony of reliable witnesses, and I just think God left a witness that, listen, I took them because I loved them so much. Like, it's going to break my heart so much to do the flood. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Right. Mm-hmm. Todd: But every once in somebody comes along and man I just love him so much I just didn't want to take the time to wait for him to die. You know what I mean? I had Cardinals to make for him. Yo, It's Carrie: Right, right. Well, well, and you know what else? I was trying out some new bird designs. No, Todd, you know what though? And I don't know. At this time, they did not have a concept of eternal life or salvation, correct? I mean, there was no such thing. So it just occurs to me too, if you loved, if you... Todd: Think so. But I think they must've had an idea about, like I said, remember all of Enoch falls within Adam. So they must've had a concept of the tree of life. They must've had a concept that there was a way to enter into, or at least there had been. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Right, like, let's call it God's paradise. It wasn't necessarily an afterlife concept to them, but if you know, it was probably more like, hey, there was this amazing garden where we started, but we screwed up. And, but he probably told the family about that. And then maybe that's where the concept of God's paradise comes from for them. But I'm thinking about it. You know, if everyone at that time, Todd: Right. Yeah, I don't think they thought of it that way. Mm-hmm. Yo, It's Carrie: And I know God loves all of his children, but if everyone at that time is living their lives until they die, and then there's just nothing happening with them at that time, that obviously bothered God. He wanted to spare Enoch of that. And it was going to be how many more generations, thousands of years before Jesus came and created that opportunity for after death to join. Todd: Right. Yo, It's Carrie: God in his paradise, whether that's the garden literally or heaven or whatever it is. So maybe it was like, you know what? I'm going to spare Enoch of that. I'm going to spare Elijah of that. Why let them just die and be waiting? Maybe their faith and all of that was just so strong and pure that he said, they're ready to be with me now. Todd: Mm-hmm. Yeah, it could be. I like to picture your original picture of God and Enoch actually physically walking. Because it hearkens back to Adam and Eve so much. You know what I mean? In the cool of the evening, God coming down and just walking, fellowshipping, communing with. You know what, he may not physically walk with us, but he still fellowships with us. He still does walk with us, even if it isn't physically. But I agree with you that this... Yo, It's Carrie: Right. Right. Todd: back at this early stage could have easily been physical. And I love the idea that they're out there on one of their walks and people maybe, Enix family's probably a little bit used to him just kind of disappearing for a few days at a time. And that why he's just out in the woods with God. You know what I mean? Like, like he probably, they probably knew. Yeah. So having beers with Jesus, like Lucas, but imagine they're out walking and God's like, back at this early stage could have easily been physical. And I love the idea that they're out there on one of their walks and people maybe, Enix family's probably a little bit used to him just kind of disappearing for a few days at a time. And that why he's just out in the woods with God. You know what I mean? Like, like he probably, they probably knew. Yeah. So having beers with Jesus, like Lucas, but imagine they're out walking and God's like, Yo, It's Carrie: Yeah, I mean it could have been. For sure. Yeah, I mean it could have been. For sure. Okay. He's out. He's having beers. He's having beers with God in the woods. Okay. He's out. He's having beers. He's having beers with God in the woods. Todd: You know what we're kind of close to? We're not very far from the Garden of Eden. I want to show you what I got." And like, maybe that's the answer. And he has, he's like, I can't send you back after that. This is a one-time, this is a one-way trip, bud. You good for it? And he's like, let's go. You know what I mean? You know what we're kind of close to? We're not very far from the Garden of Eden. I want to show you what I got." And like, maybe that's the answer. And he has, he's like, I can't send you back after that. This is a one-time, this is a one-way trip, bud. You good for it? And he's like, let's go. You know what I mean? Yo, It's Carrie: Hahaha Hahaha right? Yeah. right? Yeah. Okay, so Todd, I just looked up, okay, and I looked up in ⁓ another I looked up that line, and it says it twice and says it the same way, that he walked with God. ⁓ And sorry, I would think that they would just say that he had strong faith. There would be something worded like that, but the fact that, yeah. Todd: It could be anything. Yeah. I agree. I don't think you're on the balance at all. think a physical guy got like, cause we're not that far from him doing it. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that when God's coming to Cain that it's a physical manifestation. Well, I've said, I said before, I think it's Jesus. think he had the same body that he's going to have whether, you know what I mean? And, uh, and yeah, I think that, I think it, think that Jesus is, he was in the dirt from the beginning. Yo, It's Carrie: Right. ⁓ right, right. In like human form. Sure. No, that makes sense. I'm glad you said that again. Right. Todd: He's stooping in the dirt and he's making man and he's just in the dirt the whole way through and God never ever Leaves and he also never leaves no matter how bad things get he never All hope is not extinguished completely as bad as the flood is gonna prove to be There's still a ray of hope that shines through and that ray of hope is no one that ray of hope is is Is is delivery by the water from the water? Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Todd: I read that somewhere in the Bible recently and I thought, man, that's such a good line. It's probably in Genesis. Who knows? I've been spending so much time here. can't keep track. so anyway, I was excited. I just loved this idea of Enoch that wherever we go as dark as the times get, you were not bound by our surroundings, by our, in other words, just because our society, just because our culture, just because our civilization is plumbing. Yo, It's Carrie: ⁓ that's cool. That is good. That's cool. Yeah, that's sweet. Yeah. Todd: the depths of depravity, we don't have to. still have, we're of the line of Enoch, of Noah, of Adam, of Seth, of Abraham, of I, you know what I mean? And these were the people who were not overcome by the world. He says that, think it's Ephesians where Paul says, don't be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good. There may not be a lot of people who do it, but it can be done and it is done and we're given examples of it all through. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Right. Todd: At this darkest time, one of the brightest lights shows up. You know what I mean? And then his great grandson becomes the deliverer. You know, the type. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Right, I was gonna say, I was gonna look at that. Is he his, is Enoch Noah's great grandfather? I think it is. Todd: Yeah, so you have Enoch. Let's put our graph back up. Everybody loves our graph this week. It's still up on my end, guys. Yo, It's Carrie: So his dad was Lamar, his grandfather was Methuselah. yeah, so Enoch would have been his great grandfather. Todd: So you can see Enoch was this little short one and then he had Methuselah. It's interesting that Enoch is the shortest in that genealogy and Methuselah, his son is the oldest man to ever live that we have. then so Enoch has Methuselah, Methuselah has Lamech. So Methuselah is Noah's grandfather. And you can see that for most, Methuselah doesn't die till the year of the flood. And I don't think he dies in the flood. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. ⁓ yeah, that's right. Mm-hmm. Todd: And we'll see when we get there, but I think he dies just before the flood. but Moses is preaching or not Moses, Noah. There's so many of them and they're types of each other. You know what I mean? All the way through this story. So next week, we're going to get into the Nephilim and the giants and the hybrids, hybrids, reptilian, all kinds of things out there. Yo, It's Carrie: Okay. Mm-hmm. Right. Yeah. Really interesting. Mm-hmm. Okay. ⁓ my gosh. Todd: We'll get into the book of Enoch a little bit and we're just going to, because this is, this is, ⁓ it's very interesting stuff right now to people. There's a lot of, a lot of podcasts, a lot of things out there where people are talking about the Nephilim and all these different things. It's a very, listen, it's four verses in the Bible. I promise you it's not that important, but it's real intriguing. I give everybody that. It's a cool, it's a cool gig and we're going to spend a week dealing with it. Yo, It's Carrie: It's intriguing. Yeah. ⁓ We have a natural fascination with it. How long is the book of Enoch? Todd: I don't know, but it's pretty long. had Grok summarize it for me. It's usually split into like, I think it's six or seven parts. So like the first part has like 37 chapters. That's the part about the Watcher. So the first part's kind of the part that has all the stuff about like fallen angels. And remember I told you the other, and I were having a private conversation the other day, we were texting and I told her that most of, most of what we take for granted about hell, about Satan, about all these things, it's just not in the Bible. Yo, It's Carrie: Okay. ⁓ my gosh. Okay. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Right. Todd: Demons all of that. We aren't told a whole lot. We were told some I'm not saying they don't exist They obviously do we aren't told a lot of specifics a lot of the specifics that people have layered onto the story Actually, I think a fair amount of them come from book Enoch, which is kind of interesting. So we're gonna we'll dive into that Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Okay. Yeah. Most of it we infer from stories like of exorcisms and, and whatever from, and yeah, the garden of Eden and Jesus's temptation in the desert. But yeah. Todd: Yes. Yep. Right. ⁓ a hundred percent. Satan's all over. It's just, we're not exactly, it's never exactly clear what, like people will say that he's going after souls. Like there's this idea. Yo, It's Carrie: Like there isn't this plain exposition. Like give it, yeah. So maybe. Todd: Not that I know of. Listen guys, if I'm missing something, send it through to YouTube comments or Spotify or whatever, but I don't believe that there's anything entirely biblical about the idea that Satan and God are out there dueling out for souls. It does talk about 1 Peter, I think it's 1 Peter, but Peter talks about how the devil goes about like a roaring lion seeking whom he can devour. Now you get that idea from C.S. Lewis screw tape. Yo, It's Carrie: Yes, please. It's interesting. Yes. Yes. Todd: I'm not so sure that that's ⁓ an afterlife thing as much as it could be a present life thing. Do you know what I mean? Yo, It's Carrie: Yeah, ⁓ I'm just gonna say during screw tape. So we're referring to C.S. Lewis's book, the Screwtape Letters, so good. It's fiction, it's very good. But that's definitely happening now. That's happening on Earth during the man's life. Todd: Yes. Right. But CS throws an eye towards the future into it. And I'm not, I'm just telling you, I don't think it's biblical. It could be that, that all of this demonic satanic activity is all with an eye specifically toward the present life. It's not an afterlife thing, but I know that, that there's, there's some things people would, would, have some other opinions on that. And I'm excited to see them guys. If I, if they're any different than just your typical orthodox stuff, I'd like, hopefully you have a little more to add than just. Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. Okay. Interesting. Mm-hmm. You Todd: Well, the Pope said this, Carrie never says that. So anyway, anyway, I thought it was great. I love that idea of a light shining through in the darkness. You know what I mean? That God always has that. Usually he always has more than one, but because it's in that same story to Elijah, by the way, that Elijah has. Yo, It's Carrie: Right. No, I do not say that. But yeah, cool. Okay. Yeah, thank you. Yeah, that's true. And. Todd: where he gets so depressed and he has this competition with the prophets of Baal and of course God wins and of course they kill all the prophets of Baal but then Elijah's just plunged into this deep depression and he walks all the way across this desert and he finally gets to this cave where he finally sees God and he has rehearsed this story the whole way and he says, listen, I'm the only one left, nobody else and God says, dude, Yo, It's Carrie: That's right. Mm-hmm. Todd: I've got 7,000 more that haven't bent the knee to bail. Trust me, I got this. And I think that's what, that's God's message over and over and over again. I haven't abandoned. Even when it looks like I really want to abandon things like with the flood where I just want to wipe them all out, there's still a ray of hope and that ray of hope is no one. That ray of hope becomes the line of Jesus. So what do you think, Kerry? How'd we do for genealogy? For family tree? Yo, It's Carrie: Yeah. I think this was a fascinating exploration of the family tree. do. I think Patrick would find it informative, interesting, captivating. I don't know if he'd use that word, but I feel like this was way more interesting than if you just read it alone. The quiet of your room, be like, yeah, I don't get this. Nothing interesting. So glad you joined us to explore it with us. Todd: Would Patrick approve? we just went through. Well, listen guys, thank you for joining us today. Go back and watch news. If you haven't, that's the wildly opinionated news hour that dropped yesterday. We dropped that every Tuesday. Yeah, it was, it was tight. Sometimes we go a longer. went an hour yesterday and we were tight and we were good. And there's our, our one of our, I should take the, why is this graph everything all the time? Yo, It's Carrie: Mm-hmm. It was a good show. We've had the graph of like three quarters of the show. That's all right. Todd: All right guys, thank you for joining us. Thank you, Kerry. Todd'sWorld.net has everything it has. By the way, if you don't want to go through searching things on YouTube, the link's right on Todd'sWorld.net, right at the top. You have a link to X, to YouTube, to Apple and Spotify. So, and then we're at other places too. It's just, I can't have every link. And the books are there. Buy a book, you're going to love them. Insurrection or Witness, just get started on it. See if you think of the story. So. Yo, It's Carrie: ⁓ there you go. That's easy. Yep. Yep. So good. So good. Thanks for joining us. Woo. Interesting. Todd: Okay, we'll be back next week to talk about the Nephilim. That should be fun. We're gonna have all kinds of fun next week. We feel like we don't even have to deal with the Bible hardly at all. We can just go off into fiction land with Enoch. No, I'm just kidding, guys. All right, thanks, Gary. We'll see you next week. Yo, It's Carrie: ⁓ That's funny. Thank you. Bye.
