- 0:28what else more you want. This is the B -Sides
- 0:43Boxing Podcast. I made a fucking major error
- 1:22of judgment. I went to Costco on Sunday. That
- 1:26was a fucking mistake. Yeah, that is a bad mistake,
- 1:29yeah. That's a bad idea. You know what? At least
- 1:36it's a choice, though. You can just leave. I
- 1:39was thinking about it. I was trying to find a
- 1:41parking spot, and I couldn't. So I was like,
- 1:44you know, last row, if I don't find one here,
- 1:47I'm fucking out of here. And just so happens
- 1:50somebody pulled out right in front of me. So,
- 1:52all right. I guess we're going. That's sick.
- 1:56Sweet. I think I'm ready. Pop a fucking edible.
- 2:07If I pop an edible, I don't think I'll be able
- 2:14to do this podcast. Oh, I have. I think I'd get
- 2:18less. No, I'd lose. I have such bad tolerance.
- 2:23Like, I'd be less coherent. I'm going to have
- 2:28to put you on game with these, though, because
- 2:29these are super, super light. And I take a quarter
- 2:33of one, not a whole one. So I'm already. It's
- 2:38all it does is like, OK, fair enough. I can feel
- 2:41my lungs breathing better. And I become more
- 2:45aware of my posture. So that's nice. I get like
- 2:49that with gum. I sound like really weird, but
- 2:52like I just get like that with gum. The cooler
- 2:55air. Yeah. Cooler air. Yeah. I got you. All right.
- 3:03Fucking timer is running. Cookies crumble. Farmers
- 3:09fumble. Rapaport Rumble. I don't know. Rhyming.
- 3:18Rumble in the jungle. Boxing. B -sides. Oh, we're
- 3:24here to talk about all the fun shit. Joined by
- 3:27the homies. Josh, Alex, how you guys doing? Fantastic.
- 3:32After last night, fantastic. Yeah. This is going
- 3:36to be a beautiful podcast. Mm -hmm. Actually,
- 3:41it might piss some people off. Depending on what
- 3:43we're going to say. Oh, well, 833 -589 -7637.
- 3:48Get that number ready so that when you hear something
- 3:50that upsets you, call it in. Tell me why you're
- 3:53upset. Y 'all going to get moist tonight. All
- 3:59right. Let's start with our recaps. There's a
- 4:06little bit to get through before we get to the
- 4:09big one. This one actually, though, to me, is
- 4:14kind of important. In the Ariake Arena in Tokyo,
- 4:20Seiya Tsutsumi, a .k .a. Punchburger, has a draw
- 4:24with Daigo Higa? Draw, question mark? On the
- 4:29pick sheet, on the pick league, I was rooting
- 4:33for Daigo Higa. No illusions about it. I talked
- 4:37about it with Shinada. You can check out the
- 4:39side piece episode. He also told me that too,
- 4:43I think. Yeah, Tsutsumi won that fight. There's
- 4:46no question in my mind. Had a similar situation
- 4:49previously with Carlos Adamas. He won that fight.
- 4:57Yeah, it's just a rough go. Yeah. I hate when
- 5:02that happens, man. It's just a rough go. Like,
- 5:05there's so many reasons it could happen. But,
- 5:08like... I guess the bright side, the glass half
- 5:12full view of it here is that the next fight should
- 5:16be better. You see the guys improve. Unless they've
- 5:21hit a wall, they improve. One problem with Tsutsumi
- 5:27is he cuts easily. This is not the first time.
- 5:30And Daigo Higo is eating with his head a lot,
- 5:32so he was fighting pretty gross. It's just...
- 5:38Yeah. like they'll both they'll be used to each
- 5:42other but unless the first fight was like stinky
- 5:44stinky like similar uh rock 'em sock 'em robots
- 5:48yeah it'll go good it'll go good it's always
- 5:52fun yeah who needs brain cells anyway and last
- 5:57one junto nakatani quick stoppage over uh david
- 6:03WBC bantamweight title. Tsutsumi retains his
- 6:06WBA bantamweight title. I expect this is like
- 6:10you guys are going to be fighting each other
- 6:12eventually. Nakatani, I don't see him having
- 6:17competition until either Bam or Inoue. He's so
- 6:23fucking good. He defies Japanese style of boxing.
- 6:29He's just... He's ruthless and he's good. He's
- 6:34a really good finisher. He doesn't yeah in Japan
- 6:38or with the Japanese coach, so California right
- 6:43take a little credit for that when he trains
- 6:45with a Mexican coach He trained who did you show
- 6:49it again? He's because I know he's California
- 6:50Rudy Hernandez, I think Yeah Eddie something
- 6:56Hernandez, I don't remember is that his first
- 6:59name Because I know he's not with the Diaz brothers.
- 7:03He's not. No. He's not with anyone well -known.
- 7:08No, but it's like... He's just like, fuck, just
- 7:13so solid. Yeah, no notes. This was a number one
- 7:20contender for his title, and he sparks him in
- 7:23three. Yeah. This shit wasn't even close. I don't
- 7:27think Sutsumi is going to give up much of a fight
- 7:28either. It has to be Bam or Inoue. It has to
- 7:32be an elite opponent. Sutsumi is tailor -made
- 7:36for Nakatani. Oh, yeah. Unfortunately, yeah.
- 7:41Sad to say, but... I mean, fuck. What was it?
- 7:45Two years ago at this point, it looked like he
- 7:48killed Andrew Maloney. That fight was... So good.
- 7:53That's why when I said I like to clown on Jason
- 7:55Maloney, but not Andrew, it's because of that.
- 7:58Yeah. I thought Andrew died. It looked like he
- 8:01just flatlined. Oh, my God. Monstrous straight
- 8:06left. Exhaustion. Perfectly set up. Yeah. It
- 8:11landed flush. That was scary. You shot him. Yeah.
- 8:18No, Nakatani's so good. it's not even that i
- 8:21need to see him with better competition like
- 8:23he's fighting the best available other than like
- 8:28the legacy defining elite fights his contemporary
- 8:32champions uh yoshiki takei has a wbo uh ryosuke
- 8:38nishida has ibf and obviously sutsumi wba so
- 8:43all the belts are in japan there's I know Nishida.
- 8:48He's with a smaller promotional company. He wasn't
- 8:50supposed to win when Emmanuel Rodriguez came
- 8:55out to fight him. That wasn't supposed to happen,
- 8:58but it did. So got to do something with it, buddy.
- 9:03Yeah. Cash it in. Well, with Nakatani, he kind
- 9:06of has no one until. Yeah, the two options. I
- 9:10mentioned tension. I think it's a fight they
- 9:13could make. Would it be too early? Probably for
- 9:16the next two years, it probably will be. But
- 9:21Nakatani will be moved up. I'll say next 304.
- 9:25Depends on how Nasukawa progresses. That's true.
- 9:32There's a chance he just flourishes in his next
- 9:34two fights and we're talking about him as a viable
- 9:38opponent for Nakatani next. Nagatani's one of
- 9:44those guys I really just can't complain about.
- 9:45Fights the best guys available. He's going to
- 9:47keep doing that, and the elite fights will come.
- 9:51Can't wait for the anyway fight. Yeah. That's
- 9:56a Super Bowl. Japanese Super Bowl. Oh, my God.
- 10:01That's a real super fight. If they stick that
- 10:04on the New Year's card. Oh, I'll be great. We
- 10:09got to make the trip. Oh, that would be one worth
- 10:13going out there for. I think we're making the
- 10:16trip. I'm maxing out a credit card to make the
- 10:18trip. That would definitely be worth it. Because
- 10:21that's a lifetime type of thing. CIBC, you didn't
- 10:26hear that? I'm not maxing out my credit card.
- 10:30But I would max out my credit card to go watch
- 10:33Inoue Nakatani on New Year's. I think I could
- 10:38die happy after that. That would be something
- 10:41you'll never see again. Yeah. I'd take the Ollie
- 10:45Frazier of the Japanese. Live podcast at the
- 10:49hotel afterward. Yeah, those are always fun.
- 10:53Actually, they're a lot of fun. Hell yeah. Anything
- 10:57more for the Japanese card? Come on, anyway.
- 11:04I would like Tim Zhu. Charlo. Where are you?
- 11:10All right, let's knock some quick ones out of
- 11:14the way here so that we can get to the meat of
- 11:16the dish. On Friday, February 28th, Rocky Hernandez
- 11:22versus Rene Deyes. Rocky gets a UD, so congrats
- 11:28to him. Black Leamy's a good venue. Is it? Like,
- 11:34get no? Very nice casinos. Very nice hotel. It's
- 11:38a good small venue. Good small hall shows. Cool.
- 11:42March 1st. The beginning of the day. No Limit
- 11:48in Brisbane. Liam Wilson. You may remember him
- 11:52from fighting Oscar Valdez. Topric snubbed me
- 11:57on that one. Motherfuckers. Yeah. Yusef Dib.
- 12:02They rematched. Liam Wilson gets the UD. Moving
- 12:06to match room in Belfast. I'm calling it Ireland.
- 12:13It's not Northern Ireland. There's only one Ireland.
- 12:16United Kingdom. There we go. We're the wokest
- 12:23boxing podcast. The wokest would say there's
- 12:27only one Ireland and it's the Republic. Anyway.
- 12:33Two fights that I wanted to point out. Craig
- 12:35Richards stops Patrick McCrory in eight. It was
- 12:39fun scrap. I think they called it a good old
- 12:42Irish dust -up, even though I think Craig Richards
- 12:46is British. Yeah. Lewis Crocker wins by disqualification
- 12:53in the eighth. Patty Donovan. Did you guys watch
- 12:57this one? Yeah. That was a... It's unfortunately
- 13:07not the worst ref call of the day. No. It was
- 13:12not. It was not, but for the context of the fight,
- 13:21the DQ was correct, but we should not have gotten
- 13:24there to begin with. The two points taken earlier
- 13:27was kind of soft. For a headliner. Domestic dust
- 13:33-up between two undefeated prospects. That's
- 13:36the two points you see in an amateur ring. It's
- 13:40not something you see in a pro fight at this
- 13:42stage. No, never. The DQ, yeah, I hit him after
- 13:49the bell. On top of a lot of other things. Yes.
- 13:55But, like, the referee... Is supposed to be aware.
- 14:00Of how much time is left in the round. And he
- 14:03should be way closer. Especially with how raucous.
- 14:07That venue allegedly was. Allegedly. Yeah. Everybody.
- 14:15Commentary. We had one guy that was there. And
- 14:18he was saying. This place is fucking nuts. Yeah.
- 14:24Like, hell, even, like, amateur boxers and, like,
- 14:27the referee has to be there. It gets fucking
- 14:30loud. And any replay, and he's just sitting so
- 14:36far away that there's no way, like, unless he
- 14:41can stop time and walk up to the boxers and that
- 14:45split second when the bell rings, there's no
- 14:47way he's getting in there to prevent that. Makes
- 14:52sense. Like, It was just lazy refereeing, and
- 14:56I don't think, like, the rematch, like, Patty
- 15:00Donovan, uh, Loose Crocker's gonna get his ass
- 15:01beat again. He was getting fucking murdered.
- 15:05Oh my goodness. That was, that shit was not even
- 15:08close. It was, it was so bad. The interview after
- 15:14the fight was kind of embarrassing, too. They're
- 15:16admitting that their plan was to Homer Simpson
- 15:18Patty Donovan. What? They were like, we'll get
- 15:25him in the later rounds after we weather the
- 15:28storm. And I'm like, unless you are Homer Simpson,
- 15:30it's not happening. So for context for everybody,
- 15:35throughout the eight rounds, Patty Donovan was
- 15:39headbutting. He was throwing elbows. He got two
- 15:42points docked in different rounds for headbutts.
- 15:48So to get disqualified for a shot, after the
- 15:52bell. Here's the problem that I have with the,
- 15:55it was loud. It was, it was really rowdy in there.
- 15:58So he couldn't hear it is that he throws the
- 16:01last punch and it lands. Crocker goes down. Did
- 16:06he, maybe he milked that one a little bit. Eh,
- 16:09perhaps his eye was in really bad shape and it
- 16:12just got tagged again. I don't know. I'm not
- 16:14gonna, I can't speak for Crocker and how the
- 16:16situation with his eye, but after he threw that
- 16:20punch, patty's hands like he started walking
- 16:24back to his corner so i don't know i i feel like
- 16:29he heard it and he threw it anyway just my my
- 16:33sense i wasn't there would have been the how
- 16:37they saw it yeah it i i also have the benefit
- 16:40of all the camera angles and like sound isolation
- 16:44and blah blah blah all the technology and patty's
- 16:48just in there throwing punches that's With a
- 16:51fuckload of people screaming. Yeah, like we're
- 16:54not there. Exactly. We get to watch. I wasn't
- 16:56there, so I can't speak. I can only tell you
- 16:59what I think happened. And that was just my speculation.
- 17:02So we'll leave it at that. Moving down. Queensberry
- 17:08this time in Burnmouth. This was in England proper.
- 17:13Only two fights I wanted to point out. Carol
- 17:15LaTalma. He's related to Moses. So the younger
- 17:19brother. The smaller brother, I should say. Gets
- 17:22TKO3 over... Shit. Mikhail Ludvichak. I'm getting
- 17:30better with these really European names. I'm
- 17:35going to be honest with you. This is thanks to
- 17:37the MMA show. That's where I... The Dagestani
- 17:43names are really... They're clutching up. Yeah.
- 17:47They're coming in clutch. Send your kid two,
- 17:51three years to Dagestan. Forget. And the main
- 17:55event, Ryan Garner, UD over Salvador Jimenez
- 17:58for the vacant... What is this? Was that EBU?
- 18:02I believe it was. EBU. Yeah. The WBC International
- 18:08130. So, congrats to Garner. Does this matter
- 18:17in the division? Not really. Not yet. England,
- 18:25the UK, and Japan. They have a domestic progression,
- 18:31a domestic ladder that does matter. So when you're
- 18:36seeing these Euro guys or UK guys get the British
- 18:40title, Commonwealth title, then they step up,
- 18:43they get the EBU title. or some version of, like,
- 18:46the WBC European or whatever, that matters. Yeah.
- 18:51Because these guys are climbing the ladder that
- 18:53is, that's their system. So you're going to be
- 18:57seen. Yeah. Better than the American ladder,
- 18:59I'll tell you that. It is. It is a lot better.
- 19:01Yeah, I guess as fans get to be more overly critical
- 19:06because they get showcased at this stage by major
- 19:09promoters because they don't have, like, a pro
- 19:10box. Yeah. They haven't got a Pro Box. Matchroom
- 19:15Next Gen is getting off the ground, but it's
- 19:18not Pro Box. Yeah. And it will never be Pro Box.
- 19:24We stand Pro Box in this house. You can only
- 19:28emulate greatness. You gotta stay loyal. Exactly.
- 19:33Alright, let's move on to last one before the
- 19:37big deal. In... Fajardo Puerto Rico. Salida Promotions.
- 19:44And there's some other local one. They have a
- 19:48funny name. I forgot to take note. Comey. Alfredo
- 19:53Santiago versus Javier Fortuna. God damn. There's
- 19:57a name I did not want to hear anymore. Just whatever.
- 20:04Subreal Matias in the main event. Which one?
- 20:08Which one what? Which name did you not want to
- 20:12hear? Javier Fortuna. The dude is way, way past
- 20:16it. And he's doing these domestic level things.
- 20:20So I guess congrats on keeping your career going
- 20:23at this point. But he's well past his prime.
- 20:28He's at a level. I would call this my unified
- 20:36theory of fight sports laundry. so at the tail
- 20:41end of your career before you're washed you're
- 20:44in the hamper because you're you still have a
- 20:46little bit of name value you know so you can
- 20:50still do some stuff but you're definitely not
- 20:52who you used to be and you're about to get put
- 20:55in the wash if you keep going too long and that's
- 20:58where fortune is at i think he's been in the
- 21:00wash for me yeah he's been there for a bit so
- 21:03it's even like then the one where if the the
- 21:06other step if you skip You could go from the
- 21:10hamper to the wash if you quit on your own. But
- 21:12if you don't, you keep going. You become like
- 21:16a dirty rag. Yeah, he's a dirty rag. That you
- 21:20clean up. You clean up your... Un trapo. You
- 21:23clean your shit with. Yes, el trapo. Yeah. That's
- 21:28what you become if you don't stop. The trapo
- 21:31theory. I love it. Yep. Fight sports laundry.
- 21:36Uh, Subaru Matias in the main event, he beats
- 21:39the shit out of Gabriel Valenzuela. Um, it was
- 21:43eventually stopped. I don't remember what round
- 21:45I think is the seventh, sixth or seventh. Good
- 21:49for Matias. Yeah. Uh, that was like a final eliminator
- 21:52for IBF. So Matias should be getting a shot at
- 21:55Hitchens. That's not good for Hitchens. If he
- 22:00can do his usual, like, dumpster fire voodoo,
- 22:06then it should work. But I really hope he just
- 22:12beats the shit out of Hitchens. Why is that?
- 22:16Because I don't like the way he fights. I just
- 22:20want to see what you would say. I hold the view
- 22:23here. A 140 with Matthias in the world title
- 22:27mix will always be fun. Oh, hell yeah. He's vulnerable.
- 22:32He can totally be outboxed, but fuck, he's dangerous.
- 22:36And it's not even like he's dangerous in, like,
- 22:39a wilder way where it's a suspense. No, he's
- 22:44dangerous. He's got bricks for hands, and he
- 22:46can't really apply them, so he will just break
- 22:49you. And he's got a kill list already. He does.
- 22:53Yeah. People forget we could die in boxing. Sabrina
- 22:56Matias has killed a dude in the ring. This shit's
- 22:59real. Unless it's Liam Parra, of course. I mean,
- 23:03even his second fight with Petros Anyan. Oh,
- 23:07I can't pronounce that. With Petros. You got
- 23:10it. Anyan. That was a tough watch near the end.
- 23:14I was thinking the same thing. I was like, man,
- 23:16we don't need to see another Dadashev. Somebody
- 23:19needs to step in and stop this. Just beat the
- 23:22piss out of him after the third round. Yep. I
- 23:26remember that. I was like, it's Zubril Matias.
- 23:29Who the fuck is this? Let's check out his catalog.
- 23:33Oh, he killed a guy. Oh, yeah. Dada Chef. What
- 23:37happened to Dada Chef? Oh, he's dead. Oh. Awkward.
- 23:41Yeah, awkward. Holy shit, man. 140 has just this
- 23:45bevy of, like, mental patience and, like, vulnerable
- 23:49champions at the top, too. So, like, Teofimo
- 23:52Lopez comes dialed in? Okay. Like, yeah, he can
- 23:57totally beat Matias. He comes in on an off night,
- 24:00and Matias... Retires him. Yeah. But these fights,
- 24:09they're dramatic, but not because of what might
- 24:13happen. They're dramatic because of what does
- 24:15happen, and I like that. I like Matias bouncing
- 24:17back. He's been having a good bounce back. Give
- 24:21him another title shot. Fuck it. Yeah, he's earning
- 24:24his way back up. I would want to see him against
- 24:27Hitchens, though. I do want to see him. Hitchens,
- 24:29it's your time. Yeah. I'm going to give it your
- 24:34all. His contemporaries. So he's going up for
- 24:38Hitchens at the IBF. Teofimo and Barbosa have
- 24:41to rectify their title situation. Alberto Pueyo,
- 24:47split decision, question mark. Question mark,
- 24:50exclamation point over Sandro Martin. I don't
- 24:55think Martin lost that fight. As ugly as everyone
- 24:58says his style is, it doesn't fucking matter.
- 25:01I don't think he lost. Alex, do you think Poirot
- 25:05won it out? No, not at all. I'm just going to
- 25:10start with this stat. I already knew PBC was
- 25:13going to be on the bullshit this night. As you
- 25:14can see in the chat, I call it out each time.
- 25:16I call it each and every motherfucking time.
- 25:19that they pulled the shit. I knew they were going
- 25:21to fucking rob Sandor Martin. I knew it. Man,
- 25:24you can't go to bat for Sandor Martin, bro. You
- 25:27got to pick your battles. You can't go to bat.
- 25:30You can't go to war for Sandor fucking Martin,
- 25:32bro. No, no, no, no. Because you know how many
- 25:34times Sandor Martin has been robbed? Dude, I
- 25:38don't care. Three losses? I don't care, dude.
- 25:41I don't care. Sandor Martin deserved to win.
- 25:43He deserved a title. Maybe he's not the best
- 25:45style to watch, but he definitely didn't lose
- 25:47that fight. And honestly, that was a fun fight
- 25:49to watch. It was not a bad fight to watch. I
- 25:51liked it. And I think Sandor Martin... I think
- 25:54Sandor Martin... Yeah, it was for the sickles
- 25:56like us. And I think Sandor Martin pulled it
- 25:58off pretty easily. And the fact... Yeah, cleanly.
- 26:03And the fact that they... My God. It's already
- 26:07getting me mad. Because I already had all this
- 26:08pent -up aggression for the main. I think...
- 26:11But I just remember... Last week, I brought up
- 26:14this point. I brought up this point about exclamation
- 26:16marks. And, again, we have the benefit of being,
- 26:19like, he was robbed because we see the whole
- 26:22fight and all the work. But if Sandor Martin,
- 26:26like, say what you will about his style, he's,
- 26:28like, allergic to putting an exclamation mark
- 26:31on a round. He operates with... He has the M
- 26:35.O. that he can just steal a round. I figured
- 26:38it out. No matter what. When, like, regardless
- 26:40of the circumstance. That's his M .O. Because
- 26:44Sandor Martin... needs to put an upside down
- 26:49exclamation point before he can put an exclamation
- 26:52point. But, no, like, he's just, like, so, like,
- 27:14if you're a ringside judge where you can only
- 27:16see it from one side. One angle. And Foyo Shu
- 27:20shines him at the end of a round. Or Martin.
- 27:25That only happened in, like, the last five, four
- 27:28or five. I know. I was about to say, yeah. I
- 27:30know. It's just, like, Sandor Martin doesn't.
- 27:35He doesn't. I get. I get it. I get. that Varden
- 27:40was hard done, but his style also does himself
- 27:43no favors. True. Yeah, that's true. He's risk
- 27:47-averse, which is cool. You don't get hit that
- 27:51much. You can outbox the other guy. You also
- 27:53don't hit the other guy that much. That's true.
- 27:56You're right. However... It's controversial,
- 28:01but it creates controversial decisions where
- 28:05you're just like, yeah, send or beat him, but...
- 28:10Like, the juice isn't there. Stan Dore was pretty
- 28:14aggressive for his style, of course. He was more
- 28:18aggressive. Exactly. He was more aggressive than
- 28:20how he's been in his past. I don't even know
- 28:23how many fights. This is the most aggressive
- 28:24I've seen Stan Dore Martin. You know what I mean?
- 28:26Fair. And so, for me to watch that, let me tell
- 28:31you this. Actually, I want to become a PBC judge.
- 28:34I want to be a judge so I can become fucking
- 28:37rich. Because those motherfuckers, I swear to
- 28:40God, they want some bullshit. Eight to four for
- 28:43Puyo? I like Puyo. Yeah, eight to four for Puyo
- 28:47is kind of stinky. That's rough. It's so fucking
- 28:50stinky, dude. It hurt me. It hurt me. I'll be
- 28:54devil's advocate with a lot of judging stuff
- 28:56for these types of fights because it's like you
- 28:59see one side of it. So if all the action happens
- 29:01on one side of the ring for a round, you're basically
- 29:04guessing. With the cameras in front of you and
- 29:07bullshit in front of you. That's facts. Judges
- 29:11should be in isolation booths in the back. Yeah.
- 29:15Especially if you... Let's say you only catch...
- 29:18Because you have the camera crew in front of
- 29:20you in the whole presentation. Most of the action
- 29:24happens on one side of the ring. And then when
- 29:26it comes over to your side, you see Pueyo have
- 29:28a good moment. That's what sticks in your head.
- 29:29And even if you're not thinking it like subconsciously,
- 29:32you'll be like, yeah, I think this close round,
- 29:34I'll shade it to Pueyo. Because I saw more. Yeah,
- 29:39I saw more from Pueyo. And it's subconscious
- 29:40because these judges will be like, it's just
- 29:44like it's a flaw with boxing. But also some of
- 29:47these guys don't do themselves any favors later
- 29:49in the fight. It's true. Because it can be, like,
- 29:54you'll think Puyo's up six. Or, like, you'll
- 29:57think Sandor's up five or six. But, like, it
- 30:01can totally be, like, three -two if the rounds
- 30:03were remotely close and depending on the angle,
- 30:07whatever. No, you're right. I agree with you.
- 30:12I'm not saying the decision was right. I'm just
- 30:15saying it's not... You can't throw shit at all
- 30:18the judges for weird scorecards when, like...
- 30:21The sport is just set up against them to actually
- 30:24see the fights. But the scorecard, an A4 scorecard,
- 30:28though? No, that was bullshit. That's gotta be
- 30:33bullshit, dude. That's like the 118 -110 Kellum
- 30:37Smith. He won the fight, but come on. They obviously
- 30:41had... You know what I mean? Well, it's not...
- 30:45The Kellum Smith one, I'll give you the... I'll
- 30:49defend that one a little bit just because oh
- 30:52like you know you grade it round by round it's
- 30:55not so like if you if you if you have a bunch
- 30:58of close rounds in a row and it was a close fight
- 31:00it was a good fight but you shade them all for
- 31:02one person because you think they did slightly
- 31:04more it just looks like they won by a country
- 31:07mile when it's it's a close fight it's deceptive
- 31:09that way kind of thing yeah 118 110 it's still
- 31:15wild to me There wasn't 181, was there? I thought
- 31:20it was 7584. Oh, Callum Smith. I'm sorry. But
- 31:25for that, for Callum Smith, but the Callum Smith
- 31:27one, like if he shaded all those rounds by like
- 31:311%, it comes out to that score. The same as if
- 31:35he just beat his ass for that many rounds. It's
- 31:39just in how the score is scored. Well, like I'm
- 31:44just like this is the point of view I have from
- 31:46like like I like I hang around ringside and I
- 31:49corner bought like amateur events I've fought
- 31:52in amateur events. It's just kind of like I Don't
- 31:56booze until after I leave the venue. So you just
- 31:58kind of watch how everything is. I Totally understand
- 32:02this, you know, I think is I totally get what
- 32:04you're saying But come on, dude. Come on. Yeah.
- 32:08No the perception the optics are horrible. The
- 32:10optics are yeah, I understand I agree with that
- 32:14point. I have made that point a lot in the past,
- 32:18that if it's a super competitive fight, but one
- 32:22dude is getting it 51 -49, like I said, just
- 32:26by a smidgen every single round, then it's going
- 32:31to look like it's bad when it's 118 -110. But
- 32:34if you're just looking at the numbers, it does
- 32:37not tell you the story of the fight. seeing it
- 32:42up close you really have to watch you really
- 32:44have to you gotta think about whether like like
- 32:47you have to watch the fight and decide whether
- 32:49it was close or not because if like if one like
- 32:52there's a difference between like a clear cut
- 32:54like that guy won robbery and like a close fight
- 32:58with a lopsided scorecard because a judge from
- 33:01one angle with a ton of moving parts around them
- 33:04saw gave a guy 51 49 eight times To cap it off,
- 33:10I'm going to say one thing in particular, and
- 33:12that's Josh, you had said can't throw shit at
- 33:16judges, you know, because they have just a single
- 33:19seat and a shitty vantage point. I'm going to
- 33:22disagree. I can shit on judges all I want because
- 33:25I'm an armchair fucking warrior. True, true.
- 33:31See, I decide to shit on fighters because they
- 33:34can control it. That's true. We're different
- 33:38breeds of... They can text me and I'll tell them
- 33:42what the score is. Yeah, they can also score
- 33:42it how I want to. Yeah, they can score it how
- 33:44I say they should. Everyone would be happy. True,
- 33:48true. That's facts. You know what? The fighters
- 33:51could just knock each other out. They could be
- 33:53better. That's facts. Why leave it to the judges?
- 33:57Yeah. The judges are an option. Like, if we're
- 34:01going for true armchair analysts, why didn't
- 34:03Sandor just knock him out in the first round?
- 34:05You know what? That's right. Is he stupid? He
- 34:09might be. He should have actually knocked out
- 34:12Teofimo. Fuck, he was so open. If Sandor took
- 34:18any... If Sandor wasn't, like, was into taking
- 34:23risks, he probably could have stopped Teofimo
- 34:25just by knocking him down eight times. You get
- 34:29ahead of the Devon Hayes treatment. Nobody wants
- 34:31to fight anymore. Well... The woke left. It's
- 34:37the woke left. We'll get to a guy that... Alright,
- 34:42let's move up. I need to cue up a sad song here.
- 34:47Ryo Valenzuela loses his title in a one -sided,
- 34:51like a 120 -108. The homeboy just got completely
- 34:55swept by Antoine Russell. Man, I was hoping Ryo
- 35:01would pull it out, but damn, dawg. You can't.
- 35:07I'm at a loss for words at the moment. Alex,
- 35:11kick us off. What do you got? Honestly, I was
- 35:15speechless during the fight. Just because I honestly
- 35:19expected Ryo to do so much more. He wasn't active
- 35:23at all that fight. I don't know what was up with
- 35:25him. It was totally passive. And with Robert
- 35:29Garcia as well, what was his corner doing? You
- 35:33know? I'm not asking that, like, it's Robert's
- 35:36fault. I'm asking, like, legitimately, like,
- 35:37I didn't really see a lot of commentary from
- 35:40Robert's corner because they didn't really focus
- 35:42enough. Because, obviously, they're favoring
- 35:44Gary Antoine Russell. You know what I mean? He's
- 35:47the house fighter. He's the house fighter. Well,
- 35:50they're both house fighters, but the thing is
- 35:51that, I mean, they're going to favor Gary Antoine
- 35:54Russell. They're both house fighters in that
- 35:57they're in the PBC stable, but Antoine Russell
- 36:01is the house fighter. Yeah, where they were at.
- 36:07Yeah. Honestly, I'm going to be honest, even
- 36:11if it went to the decision and Ryle put up a
- 36:14good fight, I still think they would have robbed
- 36:16him. Not robbed him, but they would have given
- 36:17it to Darius Juan Russell. If he did put up a
- 36:20good fight, of course. He needed to knock out
- 36:22JR to win. Russell's work was obvious. It was
- 36:28obvious. It was crisp. It was super clear, even
- 36:32to the judges. You could hear that shit on the
- 36:34broadcast, too. Those were thudding body shots.
- 36:39That's how you know it's a guy who has power.
- 36:40Ryo, though, only has himself to blame because
- 36:44every counter he threw pretty much hit. Yeah,
- 36:48he was very accurate. He was so accurate. If
- 36:51he just turned the activity up a smidge or put
- 36:54his legs into it a bit more... We'd probably
- 36:57get a different result. It makes Russell a very
- 37:00entertaining fight with the rest of the division,
- 37:02though. Knowing that he's that prone to counters.
- 37:05You know how Ryo fought in the 12th? He should
- 37:08have fought like that the whole fight. The first
- 37:10six rounds, he let off the hook. No, I think
- 37:14the first nine rounds. I was going to say six.
- 37:18God, that's generous. Okay, now who's the bad
- 37:22guy? No, nine is still generous. Nine is still
- 37:26very generous. Because you know what? I don't
- 37:29even think he had it really in him, that fight.
- 37:30I don't know what the hell was up with him. I
- 37:32will say, Ryo definitely just thought he could
- 37:40one -shot Russell with any of these counters.
- 37:43For sure. He fought like he could one -shot Russell.
- 37:47And he just didn't. He fought like a certain
- 37:50someone on this same card that we'll get to right
- 37:52now. But he ain't that type of guy. Let's say...
- 37:57Russell fought great, though. Full credit to
- 38:02Russell. He looked really good against a really
- 38:06good opponent. Can I say something about Russell?
- 38:10I'll say this. Russell was... Russell was good,
- 38:13no doubt about it. I think that's probably the
- 38:15best I've ever seen him. That was a career -defining
- 38:18moment. You know what I mean? Especially after
- 38:22a loss like that. The thing is with that, with
- 38:25the whole situation with that fight, why did
- 38:28he get a title shot? Why? He wasn't in the mandatory.
- 38:34They just gave it to him. Right? And he took
- 38:38it. Wait, can I say something? Wait, wait, wait.
- 38:41I don't mean it like that. I'm saying he took
- 38:45it, and you could tell, even me, I didn't really
- 38:50believe in Gary Antoine Russell, but I'm going
- 38:55to use the same exact argument for, again, the
- 38:56next fight, but he took the fight, he brought
- 39:01it to fucking Ryo, dude. He believed in himself,
- 39:03and he, oh my god, it was great. What I'm going
- 39:08to say about Russell is that he needs better
- 39:10shot placement. Because if he can place those
- 39:14shots better, dude, he's going to be a fucking
- 39:16killer. In my opinion. I just feel like he can't
- 39:22process it. He already has trouble processing
- 39:24a fluid defense -offense transition. Yeah. I
- 39:29feel like that's just how he's going to be. Fortunately,
- 39:33yeah. I fully agree with you. He definitely has
- 39:37space to improve, but that's just how he's going
- 39:40to be for the rest of his career. I agree, yeah.
- 39:43I mean, I got to respect, he kind of just brought
- 39:47the fight to Ryo, and that's... Yeah, no, Ryo.
- 39:53That was a fun fight, too. It's not like... Russell
- 40:00definitely... Like you'd think a lesser guy like
- 40:04fucking Chris Colbert would have just folded
- 40:07getting hit with those shots. It's not like Ryan
- 40:10wasn't landing. It was just his activity was
- 40:12down and he couldn't really figure Russell out
- 40:14until the very, very end. Honestly, with that
- 40:18fight, I was surprised he did that good. We take
- 40:24those results. It's good for the division too.
- 40:28Yeah. It just felt like a little bit, it kind
- 40:33of felt like they were kind of like going to
- 40:35bank off the loss of GAR to try to give Ryo a
- 40:38win. And so, and I realized during the fight,
- 40:41I was like, okay, actually, it's the opposite.
- 40:44You know what I mean? Like, don't mind it. It's
- 40:47good matchmaking. And the loser, it's not like
- 40:50the loser's completely out. 140's pretty stacked.
- 40:53Yeah. And you know what? Like, GAR, he's a very
- 40:57entertaining fighter. He's a very entertaining
- 41:00fighter. That I like to watch. I'm going to be
- 41:03excited to watch it from now on. Because last
- 41:06night, I was kind of made a fan of him. You know?
- 41:10Kind of reminded me of a throwback fighter. You
- 41:13know what I mean? That's my two cents. No disagreement
- 41:17here. All right. Good. I was just sitting back
- 41:24and soaking that all in. That was great. All
- 41:28right. Now, last one. I think, Alex, I gave you
- 41:32the backstarts. So, Josh, let's... Gervonta Davis,
- 41:37majority draw for Lamar Bush. What the fuck?
- 41:40Go on. That... My insane take is that Tank is
- 41:50no... Kind of... He has a propensity to underperform
- 41:54against opponents, like, who are smaller than
- 41:59him and the... Like, just in general. Like, please
- 42:03remember the Gamboa fight. He looked about the
- 42:06same. He looked about the same with Gamboa. Like,
- 42:12it's just something he has where, like, if he's...
- 42:16Especially with, like, a counterpuncher on his
- 42:18level. If you're not 100 % dialed in, your feet
- 42:23are going to be shit and your defense is going
- 42:25to be shit. And it doesn't matter how powerful
- 42:27you are. Like anyone can beat you when you're
- 42:30not focused. I think it was embarrassing and
- 42:35disappointing for Tank to go out and do that
- 42:38right on the cusp of getting his legacy matchups
- 42:41because now we're going to waste six months where
- 42:44he's just going to beat Lamont Roach's ass in
- 42:47the first round because he's going to show up.
- 42:49actually focused. It's a waste of time, and it's
- 42:53embarrassing, but it's not unexpected. What do
- 42:56you guys think? You want to go first? No, go
- 42:59ahead. I got a lot to say on the last thing.
- 43:03I got a lot to say. I got a lot of shit to talk
- 43:05about. Alright, I'll get in there. I think, Josh,
- 43:11you nailed it. What I was going to say, anyway,
- 43:13is he wasn't... He didn't take this seriously.
- 43:17Like, he was expecting that he was going to get
- 43:19the, what, knockout in the first four rounds
- 43:21or some shit. And he just kind of toyed around
- 43:25looking for an opening. And when it didn't present
- 43:29itself, he just didn't seem to have any other
- 43:32plan. And big ups to Lamont Roach. My man did
- 43:37not get it. He won just because Gervonta Davis
- 43:41could not adapt to the possibility that someone
- 43:43is not going to let themselves get chinned. Yeah.
- 43:47And it's not, it's just his feet. His feet are
- 43:52still, like, he has to set those traps. With
- 43:56Ryan, he had, with Ryan, he moved laterally and
- 44:01set those traps. So when Ryan came streaking
- 44:03in, he was in position to throw. Raleigh, same
- 44:07thing. He positioned himself. He didn't make
- 44:10big moves. He crept back to the ropes, sidestepped.
- 44:14His feet were there. And when he's not focused,
- 44:17he just stands there and takes punches. Like
- 44:20with Gamboa. The Gamboa fight was the same shit.
- 44:24He showed up unfocused and it's just... It just
- 44:28becomes embarrassing to watch. Alex, it's time.
- 44:34Listener discretion is advised. I think we're
- 44:37going to have some NC -17 extreme language. Not
- 44:41suitable for under -17s. Yeah. This is gonna
- 44:46be the people versus Tank Davis. The people versus
- 44:50Tank Davis. The people. The people of the Boxing
- 44:54B -Sides. The people. Don't lump us in. Alex
- 44:58of Boxing B -Sides versus Tank Davis. Let me
- 45:02tell you this. I'm gonna start off with the simple
- 45:06fact that Tank has the makings of an all -time
- 45:10great. Okay. No doubt about it. This fight. Has
- 45:15tarnished that. It has dragged it through the
- 45:18mud. And as a boxing fan. It has made me. Severely
- 45:24disappointed. In Javante. The fact. That he brought
- 45:31up someone. From Super Featherweight. Gave him
- 45:35a shot at the title. And arguably. Lost the fight.
- 45:41Is just. It's astounding. And that's only a little
- 45:46part of the argument. Okay? Let me ask you guys
- 45:50this, okay? When in the history of boxing has
- 45:55someone taken a knee, gone to the corner, and
- 45:58had their face wiped? And it was not ruled a
- 46:01knockdown? Answer me. I'm being serious. Tell
- 46:05me. When has this ever happened in boxing? Because
- 46:07I don't remember any time. I think I saw a Sunday
- 46:12Puncher member get 10 ,000 likes on Twitter by
- 46:15posting that clip of Crawford getting knocked
- 46:17down by Mean Machine and not having it called.
- 46:21I've seen knockdowns not get called that were,
- 46:24like, legitimately, like, punch knockdowns. Yes.
- 46:28No. Or stupid technicalities where, like, the
- 46:30dude slips, but he got tagged. You know what
- 46:33I mean? Yes. A knee? But going to the corner.
- 46:36I'm talking about going to the corner and talking
- 46:39to your corner. How is that legal? How is that
- 46:44legal in boxing? Honestly, my thought, seeing
- 46:50it live, I kind of short -circuited being like,
- 46:54what the fuck is happening? There is a non -zero
- 46:57chance that the same thing happened to Steve
- 46:59Willis because, again, when have you seen it
- 47:02happen? Like, odds are that it... Sorry, keep
- 47:09talking. Sorry. Like, I'm not saying put yourself
- 47:13in his shoes because he obviously should know
- 47:16better, but also, like, it's something so baffling.
- 47:21Like, if you've seen every, if you're a boxing
- 47:24referee who's seen everything and it's something
- 47:26completely new, it's not a boxer asking for a
- 47:29timeout. He takes a knee, pivots on that knee,
- 47:32gets up, gets his face wiped, and he's back to
- 47:34fighting. Like, what? Hold on. The audacity.
- 47:40I know. The audacity. Yeah. The audacity. Let
- 47:45me ask you this. The audacity. Let me ask you
- 47:48this. Would Lamont have gone DQ'd if he ran up
- 47:51the tank and started hitting him? Probably not.
- 47:55Well, I think he probably would have. He probably
- 47:58could have if he did that. No. I feel like in
- 48:01that case, you get the knockdown called, though.
- 48:05But there's a point deduction for hitting a guy
- 48:08when he's down. So like it evens out. But in
- 48:11that case, you force the call. Oh, if he had
- 48:14jumped on him and he says, oh, yeah, you can't
- 48:18hit him right now. Like, well, he's down. Why
- 48:21not? Why can't I? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Like in that
- 48:24case, you do. Yeah. Like in that case, it turns
- 48:27it from like a weird non -boxing thing to like,
- 48:31OK, boxing. Boxing boxing moment boxing foul
- 48:35Mm -hmm, right like it contextualizes it. I'm
- 48:40not defending it. Anyway, that's fucking ridiculous
- 48:42But I was then how it was missed because you
- 48:46have like 80 ,000 people screaming at you And
- 48:50like this is something completely new you're
- 48:53an old fuckers refereed forever and like Let
- 48:57me just take a sec. Let me say this That was
- 49:02on purpose. That's Steve Willis right there.
- 49:04That was Mayweather's guy. That was Mayweather's
- 49:08man. Steve Willis is like... You can't say that
- 49:11was Bayless, bro. Steve Willis is the guy...
- 49:14Steve Willis is the guy who makes the faces.
- 49:18Like crab walks and eyes pointing in opposite
- 49:22directions. Yeah, he makes the faces. He was
- 49:25in porn in the early 2000s. Wait, wait, wait.
- 49:27Okay, okay, okay. You're right. You're right.
- 49:30That actually takes a little bit. Yeah, Jar Jar
- 49:34Binks. Jar Jar Binks. You're right. Jar Jar Binks.
- 49:36You're right. That's my bad. That's my bad. That's
- 49:39my bad. To the casual audience, that's my bad.
- 49:40I'm also casual. I just show my true casual side.
- 49:43Look. Look. That don't matter. That don't matter.
- 49:46Because you know what? That's still bull. That
- 49:48is still bull. That tank can go to a corner and
- 49:52get his face wiped off and talk to the corner
- 49:53and not get an appointment deducted. At least,
- 49:57my thing is that what did it did it did it uh
- 50:01did he start counting was it didn't they didn't
- 50:04i think three or four no but the thing is that
- 50:08like he looked you know how when someone goes
- 50:10down and then they look at the timekeeper who's
- 50:14actually keeping track of the count he picked
- 50:18up the count at like three and then but like
- 50:22again it's just the processing thing We all looked
- 50:27at it. It took a second to realize what was happening.
- 50:31It was like, what the fuck? I saw that in chat.
- 50:32Steve Willis, he doesn't have the benefit of
- 50:36being able to take that second because there's
- 50:40a professional sporting event happening. He's
- 50:43got to make a decision. And sometimes the best
- 50:46decision is no decision. If you really don't
- 50:51know what's happening, it's easier to make no
- 50:54decision. than the wrong decision. Granted, no
- 50:57decision was absolutely the wrong... He made
- 50:59the wrong decision. For sure. But he took a knee.
- 51:03Imagine the... If you see a fighter take a knee,
- 51:06that's an obvious knockdown. His glove touched
- 51:09the motherfucking floor. He went to his quarter.
- 51:12His knee touched the floor. That's what matters.
- 51:15And the thing is, he went to his quarter, so
- 51:17he went... He ran to his quarter and got his...
- 51:20But there's no... Like, he got his face wiped.
- 51:23And then came back immediately. It happened in
- 51:25the span of a couple seconds. So by the time
- 51:28you're processing the knockdown, there's three
- 51:31things beyond that that you now have to process.
- 51:36It's pretty simple that he took a knee. Yeah.
- 51:40He took a knee. That's all you gotta know. He
- 51:44just took a knee. I understand there's different
- 51:45angles, but it's pretty obvious the brother took
- 51:48a knee. No, it's a bad missed call, but... I
- 51:53don't think that was a bad missed call at all.
- 51:54I don't think so at all. The only way I think
- 51:58it could have been a missed call is the shock
- 52:00of seeing Tank Davis take a knee. Maybe that.
- 52:05Maybe. You literally just said, when does a fighter
- 52:09take a knee and then go to his court? You described
- 52:11an impossible scenario, except for this one time.
- 52:16My point is that you see a fighter take a knee
- 52:18in the first place, you got to start counting.
- 52:21That is a rule in boxing. Like Jamal Charlo,
- 52:25right? I'm not versed enough to think about whether
- 52:30you can retract a knockdown from it. I don't
- 52:35know. Please, someone call in and correct me.
- 52:41Can you retract a knockdown after it's been called
- 52:43if there's a reason for the knee? Let's say...
- 52:48833 -589 -7637. Call it in. Yeah. Like, correct
- 52:53me if I'm wrong, but there would be no way for
- 52:55Steve to go in between rounds and be like, yeah,
- 52:58actually, JK, that was my bad. No, that does
- 53:02allow for replays. So with the video replay,
- 53:07maybe. I'm just positing. I'm not saying that
- 53:11it should or shouldn't have been overturned by
- 53:13replay, but it's an option. I feel like replay,
- 53:18like the way Nevada does replay should just be
- 53:20the standard. Yeah. Sure. Because that way, that
- 53:27way, like, because like what, like, let's say
- 53:30like, yeah, Steve calls the knockdown and then
- 53:34no, it turns out it's legitimate. He can't take
- 53:37back the knockdown. Like either decision you
- 53:41make in throws the fight off. So, like, from
- 53:45the perspective of this is a major fight, no
- 53:51decision was what decision made. And it was wrong.
- 53:56But also, like, what other way do you... Yeah,
- 54:02but the thing is that if he calls the knockdown,
- 54:04yeah, Tank has shit in his eye and he needs it
- 54:06wiped off. You can't take back that knockdown.
- 54:09Now Roach wins and it costs Tank the fight. Well,
- 54:13my thing is this and that. He went to his corner.
- 54:16That's my whole point, is that he went to his
- 54:18corner. It wasn't like a pushdown where he took
- 54:19a knee, he tripped, or he took a knee, right?
- 54:22He took a knee. He explicitly said, I took a
- 54:25knee. And he went to the corner. There's no way.
- 54:29The way I feel is like, there's something foreign
- 54:32in your eye. You can't call timeouts. You can't,
- 54:37like, turn to the referee away from your opponent,
- 54:39be like, hey, I can't fucking see. Can I go get
- 54:43it wiped off? Because then Roach is just going
- 54:45to beat the fuck out of him. How early? I was
- 54:48a little bit asked. I think it was middle of
- 54:50the round, right? Yeah. Was it? Like, it was
- 54:54the middle of the round. How did you not notice
- 54:57that, like, a minute before? Yeah. That's true,
- 55:01actually. I saw a post of the lady that did Gervonta
- 55:05taking his hair. She was complaining. She was
- 55:08like, I put no grease in your hair. You're bullshitting.
- 55:10You're lying. Stop lying. I don't know. Granted,
- 55:16the assumption I am making, because it was the
- 55:19one made, technically the official decision is
- 55:23that there was shit in his eye, right? Is that
- 55:27there was shit in his eye. Too much grease on
- 55:28your face or something. Yeah. Like, take the
- 55:33case of a... I just can't... Like, that's the
- 55:36official reason. Like, sometimes... Like, yeah,
- 55:38you have too much fucking grief. Like, he gets
- 55:40vastly put on his face in between rounds. That's
- 55:42normal. Like, just a smidge. But if it's too
- 55:45much, people will just stop it and make you wipe
- 55:48it off. Yeah. But that's on the referee to notice.
- 55:53Yeah. Could have told the referee, like, hey,
- 55:56there's some shit in my eye. And then Steve Willis
- 56:01decides, do I stop this right now or no? But
- 56:04then Roach can just punch him because it's the
- 56:08middle of the round. Yeah, he hears him say,
- 56:09there's some shit in my eye. I can't see. Or
- 56:12like, I got Vaseline in my eye just to game it.
- 56:17He said it was his hair thing. So just to game
- 56:20it, like, oh, there's Vaseline in my eye. I can't
- 56:23see. And then he's like, oh, well, I'll stop
- 56:25it in 10 seconds. Well, then. I don't know. Yeah,
- 56:30I feel like the case is, like, remember when
- 56:32the Spence -Ugas fight, where Spence totally
- 56:36legitimately, like, his mouthpiece did fall out.
- 56:42And, like, that's the case. That's, like, the
- 56:45alternate scenario, where, like, if Tank brings
- 56:47it up in that way, where he's like, my mouthpiece
- 56:49is out, Ugas hit him, like, cleanly, within the
- 56:52rules. But, like... That's like it's it's so
- 56:58weird that like I feel like that shouldn't define
- 57:02the fight I feel like the rest of the rest of
- 57:06decks embarrassing fucking performance. Oh my
- 57:10god be the topic because focusing on this one
- 57:13like Grease gaily like once -in -a -lifetime
- 57:17Occurrence it isn't a grease gate. Everyone gets
- 57:19Vaseline put on their face and especially in
- 57:21between rounds once you've been hit Let me tell
- 57:23you this. Okay, cuz take we guys know takes up
- 57:27Pretty amazing counterpuncher, right? He's one
- 57:29of the best. Exactly. So you take that away from
- 57:32Tank, what does he have? I mean, again, he has
- 57:35the rest of his skills, but you take away...
- 57:39You take away his Golden Goose, what do you have?
- 57:44He needs to actually fight. He needed to fight
- 57:47Roach. He hasn't really done that. To fight in
- 57:51the front foot, he hasn't really done that in
- 57:53a long time. You know what I mean? You guys know
- 57:57he waits a long time to get started. It's because
- 57:59usually when he uses his feet, he can set those
- 58:03traps, though, even having to come forward, like
- 58:06with Barrios. Because the thing is, you cannot
- 58:09out -bang tank. You cannot do that in your wildest
- 58:12dreams, okay? But you can out -skill tank. You
- 58:16can out -think tank. It's possible. And he did
- 58:20that last night. Roach did that last night. He
- 58:22made tank go forward, and he counter -tanked.
- 58:25With all of his shots. He had an answer for all
- 58:27of Tank's shots. And honestly. And I hate to
- 58:31say it. Roach. I'm actually happy to say this.
- 58:35Roach got the better of Tank. In almost all of
- 58:38their changes. In my opinion. Just overarching.
- 58:41Especially given how. Poor. Tank's performance
- 58:46was. Once he figured out. Oh shit I can't just
- 58:50knock him out. I actually have to do something
- 58:53here. How much does the change of head coach
- 58:56play into this? So much. Calvin Ford had been
- 59:05the guy that kept them dialed in. That stretch
- 59:08he had after the Gamboa fight where he actually
- 59:10started living with Calvin Ford to now. Please,
- 59:14like, it's not just his performance in the ring.
- 59:17It's how focused he is on the sport. Like, he
- 59:20didn't start talking about, oh, I want to retire.
- 59:24Oh, this is my last bit. Until he got with the
- 59:27new coach. Like, Calvin Ford needs to be the
- 59:30dominant voice in this guy's camp. It's just
- 59:33what it is. Like, just for one of his peers,
- 59:38a similar case. Look how bad Teofimo went downhill
- 59:42after Joey Gamache left his camp. They stopped
- 59:45paying Joey Gamache. I forgot Gamache was in
- 59:47his corner. Gamache made the game plan for Lomachenko.
- 59:53The winning plan, motherfuckers. The winning
- 59:56plan. And then for Kembozos, Gamache was gone
- 1:00:02because Lopez didn't want to pay him anymore.
- 1:00:03Some guys can bounce between trainers and be
- 1:00:06okay. Some guys need their trainer. I don't know,
- 1:00:10dude. It pisses me off to see Hank lose like
- 1:00:13that. Well, he didn't lose, but he lost. And
- 1:00:16in the eyes of the public, he lost. Okay. No,
- 1:00:21but he also lost. I don't mean legacy in terms
- 1:00:24of like, oh, this fight exposed him. His legacy
- 1:00:26is cooked. Because every all -time great even
- 1:00:29has... shit nights. You're not going to judge
- 1:00:33Ali off of his loss. Leon Spinks. Leon Spinks
- 1:00:41was the most comparable one. 7 -0. Who is this
- 1:00:46guy, right? Yeah. And you choke. Choke and lose.
- 1:00:52Who is this guy? Everyone has their one. But
- 1:00:58this one is... This one is bad, though. This
- 1:01:00one's really bad. That's another thing, too,
- 1:01:03that I think also influenced Tank is him being
- 1:01:05mentally unwell before this fight. Because we
- 1:01:09all heard, I talked about this with you on the
- 1:01:11podcast before, that Gervonta has been talking
- 1:01:15about fucking retiring. Yeah. And people say,
- 1:01:18oh, he's just saying that for bullshit. No, I
- 1:01:20think he legitimately meant that. He legitimately
- 1:01:23meant about, yeah, he talked about retiring.
- 1:01:25And honestly, I can kind of see Gervonta retiring
- 1:01:27after this. I see the timeline of that happening.
- 1:01:32You know what I mean? With the timeline, he has
- 1:01:37to rematch Roach and then he's lost the chance
- 1:01:40at his legacy fights at the perfect time. Exactly.
- 1:01:45This is the moment to be having his legacy fights.
- 1:01:48The thing is, he could ignore Roach. He could
- 1:01:50just move on. But the thing is, there's always
- 1:01:53going to be that stain on his career. You know
- 1:01:56what I mean? That's going to be part of the promotion
- 1:01:58for every single other fight. Exactly. He beat
- 1:02:03you. He beat you. I don't care what the judges
- 1:02:06said. The guy who lost to Jamel Herring beat
- 1:02:08you. This whole fight card was not worth the
- 1:02:11$80. I'll tell you that. Except it was not worth
- 1:02:16it until Tank losing. I think that made it worth
- 1:02:22it. I think we have to consider the health of
- 1:02:24the market, though, when we talk about pay -per
- 1:02:26-view prices. Because, like, Tank is such a draw.
- 1:02:31And if you need $80, like, you need expensive
- 1:02:35pay -per -views for stars. The problem isn't
- 1:02:38that this is $80. The problem is that nothing
- 1:02:41else except for, like, Pro Box is affordable.
- 1:02:44Yeah. I think, like, the biggest draws of the
- 1:02:48sport should always have expensive pay -per -views
- 1:02:51because them fighting, it's like going to a concert
- 1:02:53or watching or paying for a concert. It's an
- 1:02:55event. Yeah, that's what Floyd Mayweather fights
- 1:02:59were. Yeah, they were events. Like, when Canelo
- 1:03:02was on that stretch where he'd sell out a stadium
- 1:03:05and have a, like, his ring walkout would be a
- 1:03:07fucking mariachi band concert. That was literally,
- 1:03:11like, it's 80 bucks. I've been at a few of them,
- 1:03:15actually. And they're... Yeah. Wow. I just think
- 1:03:20the rest of the market devalues this type of
- 1:03:24event. Because Turkey will put together a card
- 1:03:27that... The card of the century. The card of
- 1:03:31the century. Everything's the card of the century.
- 1:03:34And it's $20. The next one is the card of the
- 1:03:37century, and it's $30. We're going to get to
- 1:03:39$80 eventually. but it devalues the rest of the
- 1:03:42market because some guys aren't like i would
- 1:03:46love for better bf and bevel to be pay -per -view
- 1:03:50stars that would be cool they are not so they're
- 1:03:53not worth that much and it's not any slight to
- 1:03:57their ability it's just like don't pay this you
- 1:04:02don't pay the same for a taylor swift ticket
- 1:04:05to like your local like cover band You don't
- 1:04:09pay the same. I don't know. You don't pay the
- 1:04:11same money. Do you think the card was worth it,
- 1:04:14though? Because I see what you're saying, but
- 1:04:18to pay $80 to see Tank fight... It wasn't worth
- 1:04:21$80. That's US prices, right? It's not worth
- 1:04:24$80. That being said, I am... Actually, I legally
- 1:04:30pay for everything. That's why we're asking about
- 1:04:32it. Of course, because we all pay for all of
- 1:04:35them. We all pay for all of it. Like, this would
- 1:04:40be more worth $80 if the market wasn't so inflated
- 1:04:44with, like, three pay -per -views a week that
- 1:04:47all require subscriptions, and some of them require
- 1:04:49another subscription. Yeah, I agree. Like, it's
- 1:04:53just crowded. Like, Matchroom, you gotta pay
- 1:04:56for the DAZN subscription, and then nowadays,
- 1:04:59anyone with a name is on pay -per -view, and,
- 1:05:01like, it's a tough pill to swallow, but you just
- 1:05:05have to charge more for your biggest stars. Because
- 1:05:08that's the only way you're going to differentiate
- 1:05:10them in terms of an earning perspective. I see
- 1:05:15what you're saying. I agree. But the thing is,
- 1:05:16people don't become pay -per -view stars because
- 1:05:19of how much the pay -per -view is worth. They
- 1:05:22become pay -per -view stars on who they fight.
- 1:05:24Yeah. See what I'm saying? Yeah, but Tank is
- 1:05:28a unique case. Canelo had a sellout arena and
- 1:05:32everything to fight Avni Yildirim. It's about
- 1:05:36the event rather than... We are ostensibly hardcores.
- 1:05:42Yeah. We actually think about this stuff. The
- 1:05:46average fan goes, hey, did you watch the tank
- 1:05:49fight? He beat the fuck out of that guy. Usually.
- 1:05:53Right? Yeah, I would say usually. Usually. Usually
- 1:05:56it's... His name is Kevin. He's not too far from
- 1:06:01here. He often calls in on the MMA show, but
- 1:06:03he asks, hey... What the fuck on the tank fight?
- 1:06:07That was, like, he texts me. Like, he texts the...
- 1:06:10That'll be the only boxing text you get all year
- 1:06:14from these types of friends. From outside of
- 1:06:17the, you know, Lux family, the SP. Yeah. Like,
- 1:06:24from your casual friends, you don't... People
- 1:06:28don't say... Yeah, I really love Bivol, better
- 1:06:31be of. What a good technicians fight. They go
- 1:06:33like, did you watch Jake Paul? Damn, that really
- 1:06:38sucked how he beat up that old man. You watched
- 1:06:41Canelo beat the fuck out of that scrub. That
- 1:06:44was cool. Tank beat the shit out of that guy.
- 1:06:47That guy was a world champion. I'm going to need
- 1:06:50you to stop with this fucking nuance stuff. How
- 1:06:53am I supposed to be mad about... Tank kicking
- 1:06:56a fucking knee in the middle of the round. Yeah,
- 1:06:59let's get back to that shit, dude. What the fuck?
- 1:07:00You invited me. You invited me. We don't know.
- 1:07:03Hey, wait, Josh. This is why I want to write
- 1:07:06the articles. We're supposed to bring nuance
- 1:07:08and fucking thoughtful discussion. Come on. Hey,
- 1:07:11Josh, we love you here. Because you know what?
- 1:07:14You made me think a lot about that. You're right.
- 1:07:16About a lot of that stuff. That's why I'm asking
- 1:07:18you to write the articles. You made me forget
- 1:07:20I was so angry. So thank you. No. Fuck off. I'm
- 1:07:25playing. I'm playing. No, seriously. It was really
- 1:07:28good. Like, that was a lot of perspective that
- 1:07:30I, as much as I knew in the back of my head,
- 1:07:33like, I never consciously thought, like, yeah.
- 1:07:35You just got to remind yourself sometimes that,
- 1:07:37like, our sport is niche. It is. It is. okay
- 1:07:42we we gotta keep rolling like we're pretty fucking
- 1:07:45deep into this okay we'll see how much of that
- 1:07:48makes the public the public release but it is
- 1:07:51important to remind you if you want to hear all
- 1:07:55like all the details the weeds patreon man if
- 1:08:01you want to hear it and i'm telling you it's
- 1:08:03it is i was like just sitting back I consider
- 1:08:08myself to be a pretty in -the -weeds, sicko kind
- 1:08:11of guy. And I'm just sitting back like, yeah,
- 1:08:13yeah, yep, keep going. You guys, you boys, yeah,
- 1:08:16keep going. Hopefully articles are posted on
- 1:08:20the website soon, hopefully. Josh is a fucking
- 1:08:22boss, dude. It's coming together, man. It really
- 1:08:24is. Leo, get that set up, please. It is set up.
- 1:08:27It's just waiting for you. Oh, shit. Yeah, I'll
- 1:08:29start. Let me know how I get that. Okay, that's
- 1:08:31besides the point. No, not podcast discussion.
- 1:08:33All right. All right, cool. Tank sucked. Hank
- 1:08:36sucked this last weekend. Retire. Retire, you
- 1:08:40bums. There we go. That's the hot take we fucking
- 1:08:44need, man. Retire now. Whoa, whoa, whoa. You
- 1:08:49see, even when I'm shocked from a hot take like
- 1:08:51that, that's how you know it's fucking controversial.
- 1:08:54Damn. That's going to make the podcast, not the
- 1:08:57good discussion. That's the fun part. Oh, my
- 1:09:02God. That's shocking, bro. I'm going to get a
- 1:09:06text like, you told Tank to retire. And I'm like,
- 1:09:09wait, you didn't listen to the other 50 minutes
- 1:09:11of pay -per -view prices. Like 30, 45 fucking
- 1:09:16minutes about a whole lot. Pay -per -view prices.
- 1:09:20Pay -per -view prices. No, well, that's just
- 1:09:23boxing politics is what it is. And more important
- 1:09:28news, my cat has decided to take a shit in the
- 1:09:31litter box right next to me. That's always nice.
- 1:09:35Get out of here. Final thoughts on Tank Davis
- 1:09:41and Mr. Roach. Let's go Lamont Roach. I'm happy
- 1:09:47to see him win in the eyes of the public. I was
- 1:09:50happy to see Tank Booth. A pro box fighter getting
- 1:09:52up there and beating a pound for pound guy. Not
- 1:09:56even a pound for pound guy. The pound for pound
- 1:10:00guy that is the face of One of the faces of boxing.
- 1:10:05One of the faces of boxing. He's on the right
- 1:10:07now Mount Rushmore. Oh, yeah. And honestly, can
- 1:10:13I say something that might be hot as well? From
- 1:10:16that fight, I think... Yeah, don't edge him,
- 1:10:19bro. Come on, just speak. Just let her rip. Well,
- 1:10:23I'm letting her rip because I've got to prepare
- 1:10:24you guys to hear my take. I think Keyshawn, I
- 1:10:29think Shakur, and... This is gonna be a little
- 1:10:32hot. I think Ryan could have beat Tank on that
- 1:10:34night. Bro, I think Josh Padley could have beat
- 1:10:38Tank on that fucking night the way he wasn't
- 1:10:40moving his feet, bro. Floyd Schofield? Okay,
- 1:10:44I actually rate... I am a Floyd Schofield glazer.
- 1:10:47Like, I actually thought I had a good chance.
- 1:10:50I'm a glazer, so... Like when I saw people being
- 1:10:53like, even Boots could beat Tank. And I'm like,
- 1:10:56I think Boots could beat Tank normally. I rate
- 1:10:58Boots so high. Boots is so good. What? That's
- 1:11:04how you know the casuals are watching these fights,
- 1:11:07bro. They're like, even Boots, like, Boots is
- 1:11:10some shitter. What do you mean, even Boots? Even
- 1:11:13Boots. Boots beats him three times in the same
- 1:11:16night, bro. Come on. It was funny to watch Tank
- 1:11:22lose, and I'm pissed at the decision. But you
- 1:11:24know what? As long as everybody thinks he lost,
- 1:11:26as long as everybody thinks he lost, that's fine.
- 1:11:29My eyes. Glory to the ProBucks empire. Let's
- 1:11:33see what happens with Tank. Let's see what happens
- 1:11:35with Tank in the next couple years. All right,
- 1:11:40previews. All right, preview time. On the 15th
- 1:11:42on DAZN matchroom in Orlando at the Caribe Royale.
- 1:11:47There's a couple of names, recognizable names,
- 1:11:51marginally. Jose Roman Vasquez versus Jaleel
- 1:12:00Hackett. I swear I've heard of Hackett before.
- 1:12:03Yeah, he was a prospect. I think he got bopped
- 1:12:07in his last one. Let me see. A split decision
- 1:12:12to Jose Roman. uh okay so they're rematching
- 1:12:16to yeah get him back on track so that's cool
- 1:12:19oh uh jermaine ortiz got cut from top rank here
- 1:12:25he is yeah that was a tough cut that's he's not
- 1:12:27bad he put yeah he put in the work like you called
- 1:12:31him up every time and he showed up for you yeah
- 1:12:35he had good fights too it's not even like he
- 1:12:39had stinkers Top ranks is dying. High key. They
- 1:12:45fucked up. They're not going to renew with ESPN.
- 1:12:48They're going to end up on the zone with their
- 1:12:50DVD quality fucking shit ass streams. Jermaine
- 1:12:54Probox is calling to you. You want to get back
- 1:12:59to the title picture. You want to even be there?
- 1:13:02Fastest path to an IBF title shot. It's Probox.
- 1:13:06Facts. IBF is the Probox title. Yeah, come on.
- 1:13:11You want an IBF title shot? Probox is your guy.
- 1:13:14Come on. Moving up, Edgar Berlanga versus Jonathan
- 1:13:20Ortiz. Struggling to care. Is Berlanga here?
- 1:13:26Who's the one getting fraud checked, though?
- 1:13:29I don't know. Can they get a double knockout?
- 1:13:34One can hope. One can hope that they both lose.
- 1:13:41Go ahead. Next one. Yep. Austin. Is he ammo again?
- 1:13:46Ammo Williams. He's the mechanic at one point.
- 1:13:49He went to Tiger. He's going to be a mechanic
- 1:13:53after Volney's done with him. Versus Patrice
- 1:13:56Volney. Volney's been on a few Eye of the Tiger
- 1:13:59cards. Had some good success over there, so not
- 1:14:04surprising to see him crossing into a bigger...
- 1:14:09His one loss to Falcao, it was honestly really
- 1:14:15unfortunate. Unfortunate technical decision.
- 1:14:18He was really putting it on Falcao at that point
- 1:14:21in the fight, but the cut happened and went to
- 1:14:24the technical decision. He was coming on, but
- 1:14:28he lost the early round. Genuinely. There's a
- 1:14:33good chance that Emma Williams loses to Volney.
- 1:14:36Volney's a good, good operator. Patrice Volney
- 1:14:39is not someone to be trifled with if you don't
- 1:14:42come. It's not just it's not just glazing because
- 1:14:44I'm Canadian. Well, Amber Williams headlining
- 1:14:49is kind of it's kind of questionable. Edgar Berlanga
- 1:14:53up there. Well, it's like a well, because Berlanga
- 1:14:57like like after he lost everything after like
- 1:15:00he stopped getting knockouts when he got cut
- 1:15:04from top rank. Yeah, even top rank couldn't even
- 1:15:08put him in the protection program. He was that
- 1:15:10bad. Eddie Hearns. What's a little bit softer
- 1:15:17than protection program? Like the nursery? The
- 1:15:21nursery. Where you go to be flabbergasted. The
- 1:15:25NICU. The N -I -C -U. Okay. But that's it. That's
- 1:15:34all we got. For this one. Beautiful. Parting
- 1:15:38words. Yeah, hold on a second. Let me... I gotta
- 1:15:41put in the... You've been listening to The Boxing

- 1:17:01the shits gotta pay for the for itself. So I
- 1:17:04always yeah our our six Yeah, we're quite this
- 1:17:12one is gonna be cut very strangely It was gonna
- 1:17:16be very interesting, huh it is But it's good.
- 1:17:20It's actually really good. Let me let me I'll
- 1:17:27start with the parting words. This is a quote
- 1:17:29from Helen Keller that I like to use a lot. It's
- 1:17:34the best and most beautiful things in the world
- 1:17:36cannot be seen or even touched. They must be
- 1:17:39felt with a heart. And I always I quoted that
- 1:17:43one before on the MMA show to say it's there
- 1:17:50is nothing. As much bullshit as we talk, as much
- 1:17:56as we like to dump on the sport, we do it because
- 1:17:58we love it. And I can tell you, I feel very safe
- 1:18:04in saying that I can speak for both of you when
- 1:18:06I say there's nothing like a big fight weekend.
- 1:18:10Nothing. No, like your favorite team is in the
- 1:18:14Super Bowl or the World Series. No, it's not
- 1:18:18the same. It just isn't. And I have had my teams
- 1:18:23in the Super Bowl, in the NBA playoffs, in the
- 1:18:27World Series. It's not the same. There's nothing
- 1:18:31like it. This is something that just once you
- 1:18:34get a taste for it, you cannot get enough. I'm
- 1:18:37telling you, fight sports is the shit. So there
- 1:18:41you go. Parting words. Alex, go ahead. Uh, Tank
- 1:18:48is on fraud watch right now. And he's just very
- 1:18:51happy. And very sad. You said something so beautiful,
- 1:18:54bro. I want to say something cool, but I still
- 1:19:01got to say my piece about Tank. Be honest to
- 1:19:03yourself. To thy own self be true. Speak your
- 1:19:07truth, King. What happened was a travesty. And
- 1:19:11I hope, I just hope that maybe he can come back
- 1:19:14in the future. We'll see what happens. It's a
- 1:19:16shitty part of the sport that unfortunately we
- 1:19:20get used to. I remember my first time witnessing
- 1:19:24a robbery and being like, oh my god, I can't
- 1:19:26believe it. At this point, it's just part of
- 1:19:29the game. Exactly. Yeah, we love this sport and
- 1:19:37we only want to see it improve. There's something
- 1:19:39about this sport in every aspect that is wonderful.
- 1:19:45And as Karl Marx said, watch Probox. That's exactly
- 1:19:51what Karl Marx said, huh? Yeah. Karl Marx. You
- 1:19:54can read it in Das Kapital. It says right there.
- 1:19:57There's a whole page dedicated to it in bold
- 1:19:59font. Watch Probox. Just copy and paste it over.
- 1:20:03He held control C and then he held control D.
- 1:20:07Exactly. That's just how Karl Marx got down.
- 1:20:13All right. So that's it, man. It's a little slow
- 1:20:18this weekend, but we'll get there. Watch Pro
- 1:20:22Box. Watch Pro Box. If you have Das Kapital,
- 1:20:28then get yourself on DAZN because they do have
- 1:20:31a lot of lower level promotions on their library.
- 1:20:35So if you can, do. If you can't, fuck it. Like,
- 1:20:42you're not missing out on too much. Bail the
- 1:20:44high C's if you can't pay. Because we're going
- 1:20:48to be here telling you all about it anyway. Oh,
- 1:20:51yeah. So, with that, we'll see you on the other
- 1:20:55side. Hopefully, we'll have some better, more
- 1:20:58fun news, at the very least, to fill the gap.
- 1:21:02All right.
