- 0:05Speaker 1: don't know y'all all looking back to back down, giving
- 0:13Speaker 1: them like a million bus things and it's not me
- 0:20Speaker 1: true good stett join. You gotta use that turn you
- 1:24Speaker 1: gotta turn to turn them out. Love got the turnout
- 1:45Speaker 1: to turn, turn the water the water. Come, come on
- 1:58Speaker 1: your thing, I shore will a good morning everybody. Y'all
- 2:05Speaker 1: listening to the voice, come on dig me now wanted
- 2:08Speaker 1: only Steve Harvey got a radio show. Okay, here we go.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I was working out. I was talking to a buddy
- 2:19Speaker 1: of mine, and I was telling him something that Bishop
- 2:23Speaker 1: td Jake's told me one time I heard him say it.
- 2:27Speaker 1: He said, oh, I would hate to die and not
- 2:33Speaker 1: do the thing that I was born to do. I
- 2:38Speaker 1: would hate to die and not do the theme that
- 2:43Speaker 1: I was born to do. Man, oh man, oh man, man.
- 2:48Speaker 1: That hit me like a like a like a pile
- 2:51Speaker 1: of bricks man, because it made me feel so grateful
- 2:58Speaker 1: that God has allowed me to live my life this
- 3:02Speaker 1: way now. And I'm talking about grateful for all of it,
- 3:08Speaker 1: the good, the bad, and the ugly, and I have
- 3:12Speaker 1: had all of them. The person you see today, it
- 3:17Speaker 1: ain't always who I was. It was on the inside
- 3:20Speaker 1: of me, but it hadn't externalized itself, if that's a word.
- 3:25Speaker 1: It hadn't been brought out. It was in here, but
- 3:28Speaker 1: it was under development. Who I am today was a process.
- 3:35Speaker 1: But like I said before, don't trip Hem through with
- 3:40Speaker 1: me yet. Even today, I'm still an imperfect soldier for Christ.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Today I still fall short oftentimes, but I'll tell you what,
- 3:54Speaker 1: I'm ever grateful for the life I have. And you
- 3:58Speaker 1: know what, I want to encourage everybody today to explore
- 4:04Speaker 1: your possibilities. I mean, man, explore your possibilities. Why would
- 4:12Speaker 1: you not want to find out, discover, or know what
- 4:21Speaker 1: it is God got for you? Why would you not
- 4:25Speaker 1: want to achieve or accomplish all of your possibilities? Now,
- 4:30Speaker 1: as I ask you this question, I want you to
- 4:33Speaker 1: know that the devil is busy, that he plays mind tricks.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So as you hear this, I already know he's saying
- 4:40Speaker 1: to some of y'all, Yeah, Steve, that's easy for you
- 4:43Speaker 1: to say, but I didn't get myself in this situation
- 4:46Speaker 1: right here. Ain't nothing too hard for God? Nothing nothing.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And see, so as you listen to me, try to
- 4:57Speaker 1: try to get your mind open to this. Why would
- 5:01Speaker 1: you not want to explore all of your life's possibilities,
- 5:06Speaker 1: what's possible with your life? And I'm talking about from
- 5:09Speaker 1: right where you are right now. I'm not asking you
- 5:13Speaker 1: to change, I'm not asking you to do anything. I'm
- 5:16Speaker 1: telling you this is a fact that God can get
- 5:19Speaker 1: you from right where you are right now. Broken, misled, misguided, misunderstood, mistaken,
- 5:35Speaker 1: all of that, misfortunate, all of the missus you've been
- 5:39Speaker 1: talking about in your life. You know you. I missed
- 5:43Speaker 1: the lottery, I missed my ride. They fined men, I
- 5:47Speaker 1: missed the deadline. I didn't get it, miss pop. People
- 5:51Speaker 1: just miss stay self to death. If you've been all
- 5:55Speaker 1: in missus, God can get you from right where you are.
- 6:00Speaker 1: God a home run hitter. I'm here to tell you
- 6:02Speaker 1: that he's a home run hitter. He's a put him
- 6:05Speaker 1: over the wall whenever he wants to, all the time.
- 6:08Speaker 1: And you can be a recipient of some of these
- 6:10Speaker 1: home runs. He'll put the bat in your hand. But
- 6:12Speaker 1: you got to sway now, listen to me. You got
- 6:16Speaker 1: to stop feeling sorry for yourself. You got to stop
- 6:19Speaker 1: holding yourself down with beating yourself up. He won't hold
- 6:23Speaker 1: you down about it if you don't hold yourself down
- 6:25Speaker 1: about it. But I'm gonna tell you one more time.
- 6:27Speaker 1: The devil is busy. So what the devil do is
- 6:30Speaker 1: He makes you think you ain't worthy. He makes you
- 6:33Speaker 1: think that you've done something so despicable that you can't
- 6:36Speaker 1: come back from it. He makes you feel like you're
- 6:38Speaker 1: so low you can't go up high. He knocked you down,
- 6:41Speaker 1: and make you feel like you've been knocked down harder
- 6:43Speaker 1: than anybody else. You can't get up. He rolled you
- 6:46Speaker 1: so deep down in that ditch you can't see over
- 6:48Speaker 1: the edge. God can come get you from no matter
- 6:52Speaker 1: where you are. I'm telling you, man, you ain't in
- 6:56Speaker 1: no hole too deep for God. Magic Johnson to tell
- 7:00Speaker 1: you that. Listen to me, you ain't in no hole
- 7:02Speaker 1: too deep for God. Steve Harvey can tell you that
- 7:05Speaker 1: you ain't in a hole too deep for God. Tyler
- 7:09Speaker 1: Perry can tell you that. I can name you some people.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Bishop Jake can tell you that. I could tell you.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Kenneth Olmer can tell you that. Bishop Kenneth Olman, I
- 7:17Speaker 1: could tell you some people. Kirk Franklin can tell you that.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Donnie mcclarkton can tell you that. I just know some
- 7:23Speaker 1: people personally man that then't been in a hole. Joel
- 7:26Speaker 1: Oldstein can tell you about it. I know some people
- 7:29Speaker 1: man been down, been in a hole so deep. I
- 7:32Speaker 1: bet you. Paula Deane can tell you about it. See.
- 7:37Speaker 1: But but you know what, then here we go, see
- 7:39Speaker 1: we see see you know, see we don't. We don't
- 7:43Speaker 1: like to talk about that because now we want everybody
- 7:46Speaker 1: to pay extra hard for some mistakes they made when
- 7:49Speaker 1: clearly and excuse me for being a new Christian, but
- 7:52Speaker 1: there is a pred that I've been saying since I
- 7:54Speaker 1: was a little bitty boy, and it took me till
- 7:56Speaker 1: I was a grown man to understand it. Forgive us
- 7:59Speaker 1: our trust passes as we forgive those who trust passed
- 8:02Speaker 1: against us. So see, it ain't my job to hold
- 8:06Speaker 1: nobody down, to keep my knee on somebody's neck. Who
- 8:09Speaker 1: am I. I'm gonna need some forgiveness in a second here,
- 8:13Speaker 1: probably today. See so all this, you're holding people down
- 8:18Speaker 1: with the way you feel in bout them. And she
- 8:20Speaker 1: shouldn't have said this, and she will never get it.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I'll never support this again. Man, Get up, Get up
- 8:25Speaker 1: and get real, You're for real. You think you ain't
- 8:27Speaker 1: fit the need forgiveness real soon you ain't fna make
- 8:30Speaker 1: a diabolical mistake in your life. You don't think you are.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I have thousands of them, probably gonna make a few
- 8:36Speaker 1: hundred more for I get up out of here. So
- 8:39Speaker 1: I've decided to be in a forgiving business because I
- 8:44Speaker 1: want God to forgive my trust passes as I forgive
- 8:47Speaker 1: those who trust passed against me. You understand, see excuse
- 8:51Speaker 1: me for being a new Christian. I get I get
- 8:54Speaker 1: tired of talking to pistol, to people man supposed to
- 8:57Speaker 1: be saved, and talking about dead Christian. I don't want
- 8:59Speaker 1: to type religion. Man. I ain't in that no more.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I ain't in that. You can call me wrong if
- 9:03Speaker 1: you want to saying how you want to say. I
- 9:05Speaker 1: ain't in that no more. I ain't in all that.
- 9:07Speaker 1: You can feel how you want to feel about me.
- 9:09Speaker 1: But I got proof that God work in my life.
- 9:11Speaker 1: You know, I can't hardly get it out Sometime when
- 9:14Speaker 1: people ask me something about deeper on the inside of me,
- 9:17Speaker 1: about my soul and how I used to being, and
- 9:19Speaker 1: my journey and my trip. Because people don't know the
- 9:21Speaker 1: trip I've been on You main't been on one worse
- 9:24Speaker 1: than me. But you know what, you ain't in a
- 9:25Speaker 1: hole too deep. God can't get you out of. And
- 9:28Speaker 1: I wish, I want, I want people to remember that man,
- 9:31Speaker 1: God is a redeemer, He the great I am. So
- 9:35Speaker 1: if you ain't got nothing, now what you asking for?
- 9:38Speaker 1: You know you might not have nothing because you ain't
- 9:40Speaker 1: asking for nothing? Could asking God to get you out
- 9:43Speaker 1: of debt and ask God for a life of abundance.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Then you take the money and you get out of debt.
- 9:48Speaker 1: You keep asking to get out of debt. You keep
- 9:50Speaker 1: being in debt to get out of Come on, man,
- 9:52Speaker 1: what you're asking God? Fault? I'm just tripping to day,
- 9:55Speaker 1: That's all. I'm sorry. I apologize. You're listening show, ladies
- 10:03Speaker 1: and gentlemen. It is here, It is upon us today.
- 10:08Speaker 1: It's a special day. This is a national holiday where
- 10:12Speaker 1: we celebrate the life and legacy of doctor Martin Luther King.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Got it? Yeah? Now, his actual birthday is January fifteenth.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Today is January seventeenth. So I must bring this to
- 10:27Speaker 1: your attention, for this national holiday is really about today's
- 10:32Speaker 1: Today was the birth of the one and the only
- 10:38Speaker 1: that damn Steve Harvey. Now that's a lot of other
- 10:46Speaker 1: people that's got this birthday that's famous. Michelle Obama got it,
- 10:49Speaker 1: Duayane Wade got it, Benjamin Franklin got it, Mohammad Ali
- 10:54Speaker 1: got it. But they ain't got no radio show, right,
- 11:02Speaker 1: and Ben wouldn't have been good on the radio. No
- 11:04Speaker 1: way we hit coming on here. All these scientific facts
- 11:09Speaker 1: ain't got no joke. If they want to hear it,
- 11:11Speaker 1: probably had a slave or something. I don't hear him
- 11:13Speaker 1: on the day. You never know, you don't know it
- 11:17Speaker 1: from that era. I can't see him outside. You know,
- 11:20Speaker 1: you know, you know, I ain't really show he chopped
- 11:22Speaker 1: that tree down. Probably something black dude chopped the tree
- 11:25Speaker 1: down for him. That was George Washington. That was another
- 11:31Speaker 1: white man, which is why I didn't do well in school. Junior.
- 11:37Speaker 1: What's up? All right? It's your birthday? Man, what's gonna
- 11:40Speaker 1: happen today? Big down? What you're doing? Well? I can't
- 11:43Speaker 1: tell you what I'm gonna do today, and I can't
- 11:45Speaker 1: tell you where I am today. Yeah, I don't. I
- 11:49Speaker 1: don't know the background when you know the background because
- 11:52Speaker 1: I put up a green screen back hill, because you
- 11:55Speaker 1: can't see what's going on you don't want to share.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I can't do that today because y'all you know, you know,
- 12:02Speaker 1: y'all happy for me, but everybody ain't. Which you're not
- 12:05Speaker 1: worried about haters on your birthday? I know you're not
- 12:08Speaker 1: worried about haters. You sixty five, my brother, could give
- 12:13Speaker 1: less than hats from now on, less than all haters
- 12:20Speaker 1: from now all. Man, please don't even waste your time
- 12:24Speaker 1: on me. Don't don't even waste your time at sixty five.
- 12:30Speaker 1: I don't give less than all flying about what you think.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I'm under no circumstances. I'm going The rest of my
- 12:44Speaker 1: life is dedicated to the people who love and respect
- 12:49Speaker 1: one another, who love and respect me, who love and
- 12:53Speaker 1: respect the culture, and who are willing to do things
- 12:57Speaker 1: to move it forward. If you don't fit into that category,
- 13:01Speaker 1: after today, on this blessed day of my sixty fifth birthday,
- 13:07Speaker 1: don't say sugar honteded No, don't say sugar honted iced
- 13:15Speaker 1: tea to me, no more? And I mean that. Okay,
- 13:23Speaker 1: everything in you and everything all right, birthday boy, Thank
- 13:28Speaker 1: all this attention though, man, all right, coming up with
- 13:31Speaker 1: thirty two minutes after the hour, this is a revelation.
- 13:36Speaker 1: As I was saying, coming up at thirty two minutes
- 13:38Speaker 1: after the hour, we'll play some highlights of doctor King's
- 13:41Speaker 1: most famous speeches right after this. You're listening show right now,
- 13:48Speaker 1: Here's a drum majorst speech on the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
- 13:51Speaker 1: An instinct. It's a kind of drum major instinct, a
- 13:55Speaker 1: desire to be out front, a desire to lead the parade,
- 14:00Speaker 1: a desire to be first. It is something that runs
- 14:05Speaker 1: a whole gamut of life. So before we condemn them,
- 14:12Speaker 1: let us see that we all have the drum major instinct.
- 14:17Speaker 1: We all want to be important, to surpass others, to
- 14:23Speaker 1: achieve distinction, to lead the parade. Alfred Adler the Great,
- 14:31Speaker 1: a psychoanalyst, contends that this is the dominant impulse. Sigmund
- 14:37Speaker 1: Fraud used to contend that sex was the dominant impulse,
- 14:41Speaker 1: and Adla came with a new argument, saying that this
- 14:45Speaker 1: quest for recognition, this desire for attention, this desire for distinction,
- 14:55Speaker 1: is the basic impulse, the basic drive of human human life,
- 15:01Speaker 1: this drum major instinct. And you know we begin earlier
- 15:07Speaker 1: to ask life to put us first. Our first cry
- 15:13Speaker 1: as a baby was a bid for the tension, and
- 15:19Speaker 1: all through childhood, the drum major impulse or instinct is
- 15:25Speaker 1: a major obsession. Children ask life to grant them first place.
- 15:36Speaker 1: They are a little bundle of ego they have innately
- 15:45Speaker 1: the drum major instinct. Now an adult life, we still
- 15:51Speaker 1: have it and we really never get by it. We
- 15:57Speaker 1: like to do something good, and you know, we like
- 16:00Speaker 1: to be praised for it. Now, if you don't believe that,
- 16:06Speaker 1: you just go on living life, and you will discover
- 16:09Speaker 1: very soon that you like to be praised. Everybody likes
- 16:14Speaker 1: it as a matter of fact. And somehow this warm
- 16:19Speaker 1: glow we feel when we are praised or when our
- 16:24Speaker 1: name is in print is something of the vitamin aid
- 16:29Speaker 1: to our ego. Nobody is unhappy when they are praised,
- 16:36Speaker 1: even if they know they don't deserve it, and even
- 16:39Speaker 1: if they don't believe it. The only unhappy people about
- 16:43Speaker 1: praise is when that praise is going too much towards
- 16:46Speaker 1: somebody else. But everybody likes to be praised because of
- 16:53Speaker 1: this real drum major instinct. Do you know that a
- 16:59Speaker 1: lot out of the race problem grows out of the
- 17:02Speaker 1: drum major instinct, a need that some people have to
- 17:09Speaker 1: feel superior a need that some people have to feel
- 17:15Speaker 1: that they are first, and to feel that their white
- 17:20Speaker 1: skin ordained them to be first at it. And they
- 17:27Speaker 1: have said over and over the game in ways that
- 17:32Speaker 1: we see with our own eyes. In fact, not too
- 17:36Speaker 1: long ago, a man down in Mississippis said that God
- 17:40Speaker 1: was a child, a member or the white citizens counsel.
- 17:46Speaker 1: And so God being the child a member means that
- 17:50Speaker 1: everybody who's in that has us a kind of divinity,
- 17:54Speaker 1: a kind of superiority. And think of what has happening historism.
- 17:58Speaker 1: As a result, this perverted use of the drum maje
- 18:04Speaker 1: instinct led to the most tragic prejudice, the most tragic
- 18:09Speaker 1: expressions of man's inhumanity to man. I mean, not only
- 18:14Speaker 1: does this thing go into the racial struggle, goes into
- 18:20Speaker 1: the struggle between nations. And I would submit to you
- 18:24Speaker 1: this morning that what is wrong in the world today
- 18:27Speaker 1: is a the nations of the world engaged in a bitter,
- 18:30Speaker 1: colossal contest for supremacy, and some doesn't having to stop
- 18:36Speaker 1: this trend. I'm sorely afred that we won't be here
- 18:42Speaker 1: to talk about Jesus Christ and about God and about
- 18:45Speaker 1: brotherhood too. Many more years, somebody done bringing into this
- 18:53Speaker 1: suicidal thrust that we see in the world today. None
- 18:59Speaker 1: of us are going to be a round because somebody
- 19:02Speaker 1: is gonna make the mistakes through our senseless blunderings, of
- 19:06Speaker 1: dropping a nuclear bomb somewhere, and then another one is
- 19:09Speaker 1: gonna drop. And don't let anybody fool you. This can
- 19:14Speaker 1: happen within a matter of seconds. They have twenty megaton
- 19:18Speaker 1: bombs in Russia right now that can destroy a city
- 19:22Speaker 1: as big as New York in three seconds, with everybody
- 19:25Speaker 1: wiped away in every building. And we can do the
- 19:28Speaker 1: same thing to Russian China. But this is why we
- 19:31Speaker 1: are drifted, and we are drifting down it cause nations
- 19:35Speaker 1: are caught up with the German major instinct. I must
- 19:38Speaker 1: be first, I must be supreme all A nation must
- 19:42Speaker 1: rule the world. And I am sad to say that
- 19:47Speaker 1: the nation in which we live is the supreme culprit.
- 19:52Speaker 1: And I'm gonna continue to say it to America because
- 19:56Speaker 1: I love this country too much to see the drift
- 19:59Speaker 1: that it has taken. God didn't call America to do
- 20:03Speaker 1: what she's doing in the world now. God didn't call
- 20:07Speaker 1: America to engage in a senseless unjust war as a
- 20:12Speaker 1: war in Vietnam, and we are criminals in that war.
- 20:16Speaker 1: We've committed more war crimes almost than any nation in
- 20:19Speaker 1: the world. And I'm going to continue to say it,
- 20:22Speaker 1: and we won't stop it because of our pride and
- 20:26Speaker 1: i Arragan says the nation. But God has a way
- 20:30Speaker 1: of even put nations in that place. Everybody here, here's
- 20:34Speaker 1: a fact of no matter, doctor Mark Luther King Junior's
- 20:37Speaker 1: speech to drum major Instinct speech. It was actually delivered
- 20:40Speaker 1: at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, on February fourth,
- 20:44Speaker 1: nineteen sixty eight, and throughout all of his years of
- 20:47Speaker 1: public service, doctor Mark Luther King Junior encouraged everybody to
- 20:51Speaker 1: participate in community service. You're listening Harvey Morning Show. Welcome
- 20:57Speaker 1: back to the ride. We will continue with more of
- 20:59Speaker 1: doctor King the drum major Instinct speech. Nobody is unhappy
- 21:04Speaker 1: when they are praised, even if they know they don't
- 21:07Speaker 1: deserve it, and even if they don't believe it. The
- 21:11Speaker 1: only unhappy people about praise is when that praise is
- 21:15Speaker 1: going too much towards somebody else. But everybody likes to
- 21:20Speaker 1: be praised because of this real Drum major instinct. Do
- 21:28Speaker 1: you know that a lot of the race problem grows
- 21:31Speaker 1: out of the drum major instinct, A need that some
- 21:36Speaker 1: people have to feel superior, a need that some people
- 21:43Speaker 1: have to feel that they are first, and to feel
- 21:48Speaker 1: that their white skin ordain them to be first. They
- 21:56Speaker 1: have said over and over the game in ye that
- 22:01Speaker 1: we see with our own eyes. In fact, not too
- 22:05Speaker 1: long ago, a man down and Mississippis said that God
- 22:09Speaker 1: was a child, a member or the White Citizens Council.
- 22:18Speaker 1: And so God being the child a member means that
- 22:22Speaker 1: everybody who's in that has us a kind of divinity,
- 22:26Speaker 1: a kind of superiority. And think of what has happened
- 22:30Speaker 1: in historism as a result, this perverted use of the
- 22:35Speaker 1: drum mage instinct led to the most tragic prejudice, the
- 22:40Speaker 1: most tragic expressions of man's inhumanity to man. I mean,
- 22:46Speaker 1: not only does this thing go into the racial struggle,
- 22:51Speaker 1: goes into the struggle between nations. And I would submit
- 22:57Speaker 1: to you this morning that what is wrong in the
- 22:59Speaker 1: world is the the nations of the world are engaged
- 23:02Speaker 1: in a bitter, colossal contest for supremacy, and some doesn't
- 23:08Speaker 1: having to stop this trend. I'm sorely afred that we
- 23:14Speaker 1: won't be here to talk about Jesus Christ and about
- 23:17Speaker 1: God and about brotherhood too many more years. Somebody done
- 23:25Speaker 1: bringing into this suicide who thrust that we see in
- 23:29Speaker 1: the world today. None of us are gonna be around
- 23:34Speaker 1: because somebody is gonna make the mistake through our senseless blunderings,
- 23:39Speaker 1: of dropping a nuclear bomb somewhere, and then another one
- 23:43Speaker 1: is gonna drop. And don't let anybody fool you. Oh,
- 23:47Speaker 1: this can happen within a matter of seconds. They have
- 23:51Speaker 1: twenty megaton bombs in Russia right now that can destroy
- 23:55Speaker 1: a city as big as New York in three seconds,
- 23:58Speaker 1: with everybody wiped away and every building. And we can
- 24:02Speaker 1: do the same thing to Russian China. But this is
- 24:04Speaker 1: why we are drifted, and we are drifting now because
- 24:08Speaker 1: nations are caught up with the German major instinct. I
- 24:12Speaker 1: must be first, I must be supreme all. A nation
- 24:16Speaker 1: must rule the world. And I am sad to say
- 24:21Speaker 1: that the nation in which we live is the supreme culprit.
- 24:26Speaker 1: And I'm going to continue to say it to America
- 24:30Speaker 1: because I love this country too much to see the
- 24:33Speaker 1: drift that it has taken. God didn't call America to
- 24:38Speaker 1: do what she's doing in the world. Now, God didn't
- 24:41Speaker 1: call America to engage in a senseless, unjust war as
- 24:46Speaker 1: a war in Vietnam, and we are criminals in that war.
- 24:51Speaker 1: We have committed more war crimes almost than any nation
- 24:54Speaker 1: in the world. And I'm going to continue to say it,
- 24:57Speaker 1: and we won't stop it because of our pride. And
- 25:01Speaker 1: I Arragan says the nation. But God has a way
- 25:05Speaker 1: of even putting nations in that place. The God that
- 25:08Speaker 1: I worship has a way of saying, don't play with me.
- 25:15Speaker 1: He has a way of saying. Is the God of
- 25:18Speaker 1: the Old Testament used to say the Hebrews, don't play
- 25:22Speaker 1: with me Israel, don't play with Smith Babylon. Be still
- 25:28Speaker 1: and know that I'm God. If you don't stuck your
- 25:33Speaker 1: reckless course, I'll rise up and break the backbone of
- 25:37Speaker 1: your power. That can happen to America. Every nine then
- 25:43Speaker 1: I go back and read Gibbons Decline and fall of
- 25:46Speaker 1: the Roman Empire. And when I come and look at America,
- 25:50Speaker 1: I say to myself the parallels of frightening. We have
- 25:56Speaker 1: perverted the drum made instinct. Every nine then, I guess
- 26:03Speaker 1: we all think realistically about that day when we will
- 26:09Speaker 1: be victimized with what is life's final common denominator. That's
- 26:15Speaker 1: something we call death. We all think about it. And
- 26:22Speaker 1: every nine then I think about my own death, and
- 26:26Speaker 1: I think about my own funeral, and I don't think
- 26:29Speaker 1: of it in a morbid sense. Every nine then I
- 26:33Speaker 1: asked myself, what is it that I would want to say?
- 26:39Speaker 1: And I leave the word to you this morning. If
- 26:43Speaker 1: any of you are around when I have to meet
- 26:46Speaker 1: my day, I don't want a long funeral. And if
- 26:51Speaker 1: you get somebody to deliver the ulite, to tell them
- 26:54Speaker 1: not to talk to you now every nine, then I
- 26:58Speaker 1: wonder what I want him to say to Tell him
- 27:00Speaker 1: not to mention that I have a Nobel Peace Prize.
- 27:03Speaker 1: That isn't important. Tell him not to mention that I
- 27:07Speaker 1: have three or four hundred of awards, that's not important.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Tell him not to mention where I went to school.
- 27:14Speaker 1: I like somebody to mention that day that Marderin Luther
- 27:19Speaker 1: King junior tried to give his life serving of us.
- 27:24Speaker 1: I'd like for somebody to say that day that Mardein
- 27:27Speaker 1: Luther King junior tried to love somebody. I want you
- 27:32Speaker 1: to say that day that I tried to be right
- 27:35Speaker 1: on the wall question. I want you to be able
- 27:38Speaker 1: to say that day that I did try to feed
- 27:42Speaker 1: the hungry. I want you to be able to say
- 27:45Speaker 1: that day that I did try in my life to
- 27:49Speaker 1: close those who were naked. I want you to say
- 27:52Speaker 1: on that day that I did try in my life
- 27:55Speaker 1: to visit those who were imprisoned. I want you to
- 27:59Speaker 1: say that I try to love and serve humanity. Yes,
- 28:04Speaker 1: if you want to say that I was a drum major,
- 28:08Speaker 1: say that I was a drum major for justice, Say
- 28:11Speaker 1: that I was a drum major for peace. I was
- 28:14Speaker 1: a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other
- 28:18Speaker 1: shall of things will nothing matter. I won't have any
- 28:22Speaker 1: money to leave behind, I won't have the fine and
- 28:27Speaker 1: luxurious things of life to leave behind. But I just
- 28:31Speaker 1: want to leave I committed life behind, and that's all
- 28:35Speaker 1: I want to say. If I can help somebody as
- 28:39Speaker 1: I pass along, if I can cheer somebody with a
- 28:43Speaker 1: world a song, if I can show somebody he's traveling wrong,
- 28:48Speaker 1: then my living will not be in Vaine. If I
- 28:52Speaker 1: can do my duty as a Christian arc, if I
- 28:55Speaker 1: can bring salvation to a war who wants wrought. If
- 28:59Speaker 1: I can spread the message as the master talk, then
- 29:04Speaker 1: my living we'll not be in vain. You're listening Morning show?
- 29:13Speaker 1: All right, Steve? So today is your birthday. You're turning
- 29:16Speaker 1: sixty five today you are sixty five. How do you feel?

- 29:27Speaker 1: can't even tell you secret. All I can say, cut
- 29:34Speaker 1: your Instagram over what songs you get up right on?

- 30:26Speaker 1: Then I might have to ask them because I'm messing

- 30:31Speaker 1: most of most of just draws today. There you go, bros.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Good playing on just you know they're laying around. You know,
- 30:40Speaker 1: today gonna be a lay round day. Okay. You know,
- 30:43Speaker 1: I got a lot of people that's gonna be waiting
- 30:44Speaker 1: on me, My wife, Inn, the range, some stuff. So
- 30:46Speaker 1: a lot of people just gonna be waiting on my
- 30:48Speaker 1: hand and foot today. You know, almost smoke about you know,
- 30:58Speaker 1: bro Levin Sigall. You know, back to back to back
- 31:03Speaker 1: to back. You know. Yeah, okay, well what you know,
- 31:06Speaker 1: what you want to do? You want smoke weed? What
- 31:08Speaker 1: you want to do from you know, because I don't
- 31:12Speaker 1: smoke weed, So you know, cigars and probably gonna have
- 31:17Speaker 1: a glass of Scotch at one point at all. Okay,
- 31:21Speaker 1: you got that. Hi already had long, long talk with
- 31:25Speaker 1: God about this, appreciating it for letting me make it
- 31:28Speaker 1: and everything, and so I've done that part of it.
- 31:31Speaker 1: The rest of it is just gone. And you know,
- 31:33Speaker 1: let them see me. I want somebody to see me today.
- 31:37Speaker 1: What they see you see, well, I don't care what

- 31:50Speaker 1: like here it is if I here, okay, like call me,
- 31:53Speaker 1: call me like you're trying to get my attention. See

- 32:07Speaker 1: gonna do it all day. No eye contact with me.
- 32:14Speaker 1: I'm not looking at nobody. I'm not making eye contact today. Well,
- 32:21Speaker 1: that's good. You should do your birthday however you want
- 32:24Speaker 1: to do it the birthday, big dog. I do want
- 32:28Speaker 1: to say, though, that I do not understand why I'm
- 32:30Speaker 1: working on my damn birthday and it's a national holiday.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I do want to say that though we have to
- 32:37Speaker 1: do the show. Yeah, but this is your show. No,
- 32:41Speaker 1: I didn't have to do the show today day my birthday.
- 32:45Speaker 1: We can barbecue late if you want to, but I
- 32:48Speaker 1: don't know where you're barbecue. Dog. You can't, Bob, you can't. Well,
- 32:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna get it out of where are you at?
- 32:59Speaker 1: And Tommy to get your uncle? Nothing time, look at
- 33:06Speaker 1: the time. All right, birthday boys, Steve. It is time
- 33:09Speaker 1: now to move along today's headlines on this king holiday,
- 33:13Speaker 1: ladies and gentlemen. Miss Anne trip and good morning everybody,
- 33:18Speaker 1: and happy birthday Steve. Ya working on your birthday. I've
- 33:20Speaker 1: done it. It's no fun. Okay, it's early in the morning,
- 33:24Speaker 1: and let us go. Martin Luther King Junior's family, by
- 33:26Speaker 1: the way, was in Arizona yesterday leading a march through
- 33:29Speaker 1: Phoenix to urge Democratic Center Christian Cinema to quote urgently
- 33:33Speaker 1: pass federal voting light rights excuse me verting rights legislation.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Cinema and West Virginia Joe Mansion you know, are considered
- 33:40Speaker 1: moderate Democrats, although some members of their party feel that
- 33:43Speaker 1: both harkened back to the time when they were so
- 33:45Speaker 1: called bullweevil Democrats or right wing even racist members of
- 33:49Speaker 1: the party who in recent years have joined the GOP.
- 33:53Speaker 1: President Biden traveled to the City of Brotherly Love yesterday
- 33:56Speaker 1: to honor the Reverend Doctor Kings his legacy see an
- 34:00Speaker 1: audience in Philadelphia. He wanted to press their lawmakers to
- 34:03Speaker 1: back the passage of new voting rights legislation, a concerted
- 34:06Speaker 1: action to fight against white extremism and also for greater
- 34:10Speaker 1: economic justice. The President first Lady volunteered also at a
- 34:13Speaker 1: hunger relief organization. Meanwhile, Alabama Congresswoman Terry soul is also
- 34:17Speaker 1: pressing for unwavering push from voting rights. She tells MSNBC.
- 34:21Speaker 1: She doesn't want the members of their party to focus
- 34:23Speaker 1: solely on the often unsupported Joe Manchion and Christian cinema,
- 34:27Speaker 1: or even the current political wins. We must not be
- 34:30Speaker 1: deterred by two senators or even by the sixteen Republican
- 34:34Speaker 1: senators that voted for the reauthorization of the Voting Rights
- 34:37Speaker 1: Act in two thousand and six and now will not
- 34:40Speaker 1: vote for it. That's right, she says. President Biden. By
- 34:45Speaker 1: the way, again the Dalilah, and she says now that
- 34:47Speaker 1: the President Trump for President Trump is claiming that white
- 34:51Speaker 1: people are being discriminated against when it comes to getting
- 34:53Speaker 1: the coronavirus treatment. The FBI says the gunman who took
- 34:56Speaker 1: hostages inside of a synagogue in Texas on Saturday was
- 34:59Speaker 1: a forty four year old British citizen named Malik Faisal Akram.
- 35:04Speaker 1: The President's praising federal and local law enforcement for their
- 35:07Speaker 1: work and bringing the ten hours standoff to an end
- 35:10Speaker 1: with all the hostages unharmed. Ahram was killed. At first
- 35:14Speaker 1: they wouldn't say how, but apparently police did kill him.
- 35:16Speaker 1: And now they say two young people, two teenagers, are
- 35:19Speaker 1: under arrest. They're very youngster. Their ages their names are
- 35:23Speaker 1: not being given either ages, but they are under arrest them.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Don't know why or what connection they had, but at
- 35:28Speaker 1: the time the federal agents said that there was no
- 35:30Speaker 1: connection between Akram and any necessary group or anything. But
- 35:34Speaker 1: he did want a woman who is sentenced a neuroscientist
- 35:38Speaker 1: from Pakistan currently serving an eighty six years sentence with terrorism.
- 35:42Speaker 1: They want she wanted he excuse me, he wanted that
- 35:44Speaker 1: woman released. And that woman I think they said was
- 35:48Speaker 1: his sister. That heavy winter storm battling the South over
- 35:52Speaker 1: the weekend, I wanted just to shout out AKA the
- 35:55Speaker 1: members of Alpha Kappa Alphre Incorporated. This is their founding weekend.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Back to Steve Harvey Morning Show. Happy birthday, Steve. You're
- 36:03Speaker 1: listening to all morning long. We are celebrating Steve Harvey's
- 36:09Speaker 1: sixty fifth birthday. So, Steve, on this King Holiday, what
- 36:14Speaker 1: does the legacy of doctor King mean to you? How
- 36:17Speaker 1: do you feel about what we're going through as a
- 36:19Speaker 1: nation right now? The systemic racism, social injustices white is
- 36:25Speaker 1: voting so important? I mean, well for all of us.
- 36:29Speaker 1: You know, our people bled and died for the right
- 36:33Speaker 1: for us to be able to vote, and for us
- 36:36Speaker 1: not to vote is a complete travesty, and we have
- 36:39Speaker 1: to pay tribute to the people before us in the
- 36:43Speaker 1: civil rights movement. You know, I can't even just go
- 36:46Speaker 1: down the list of names of people who who stood
- 36:50Speaker 1: for us to have rights, you know, eating at lunch counters.
- 36:53Speaker 1: You know, we're we had our different water founders, we
- 36:55Speaker 1: had different bathrooms. It was so different. And even though
- 36:59Speaker 1: we have these things now, we still have to keep
- 37:01Speaker 1: the fight up because there's a fight to make America
- 37:04Speaker 1: great again. And their version of a great America is
- 37:08Speaker 1: not the America of today. They want to make America
- 37:12Speaker 1: something that it used to be, and for us, I
- 37:15Speaker 1: can't think of a period in the past where it
- 37:17Speaker 1: was better for us. So we've got to get out
- 37:20Speaker 1: there to vote to make sure that those people in
- 37:23Speaker 1: the minority cannot rule us who are in the majority.
- 37:28Speaker 1: And you know, doctor Martin Luther King was all about
- 37:31Speaker 1: the peaceful movement and everything and non violent protests. We
- 37:36Speaker 1: still have to continue that. But the key is protests.
- 37:40Speaker 1: We still have to protest. We still got the kneel
- 37:44Speaker 1: at football games, we still got the march in front
- 37:46Speaker 1: of police stations. We still have to walk for Black
- 37:50Speaker 1: Lives Matter. I'm you know, the fact that we've been
- 37:54Speaker 1: here these hundreds of years and we still marching and
- 37:57Speaker 1: asking for equal treatment. It's really alarming. It's really alarming.
- 38:04Speaker 1: And the question just keeps beckon into me. Who are
- 38:08Speaker 1: these people who are dead set on making sure we
- 38:13Speaker 1: are never equal? And I can only just say that
- 38:17Speaker 1: racism is alive and well in this country and it
- 38:20Speaker 1: really his ugly head up even more four years ago,
- 38:24Speaker 1: and so we've got to make a concerted effort. We've
- 38:27Speaker 1: already proven that our vote changes things. In the last election,
- 38:31Speaker 1: it was us who changed the election and they know it.
- 38:35Speaker 1: So now it is us who they are trying to
- 38:38Speaker 1: suppress the vote in. It is us, trust me, because
- 38:42Speaker 1: they saw that it was us who made the difference
- 38:45Speaker 1: in Wisconsin, in Detroit, in Philly, in Georgia, in Arizona.
- 38:51Speaker 1: It was us. And now they're trying to make sure
- 38:55Speaker 1: us don't influence the election again. But we're not going
- 38:58Speaker 1: to do that. We're voting from now. You have awakened
- 39:01Speaker 1: the sleeping giant. Please go to when We All Vote
- 39:04Speaker 1: dot org to get information on voter registration. The midterm
- 39:07Speaker 1: elections are coming up this year. Yes, also coming up
- 39:11Speaker 1: at thirty two minutes after the hour, we're gonna check
- 39:13Speaker 1: Steve's voicemail birthday shout outs. Right after this. You're listening

- 43:05Speaker 1: people say humor as you get older, healthy. Yeah, I'm
- 43:08Speaker 1: I'm fitting. I'm fitting to start caring less. Oh, care
- 43:16Speaker 1: less about mess. Okay, that's gonna be my new phrase.
- 43:21Speaker 1: I'm gonna care less about mess. I don't have no
- 43:26Speaker 1: time for that no more. Man, And I really started
- 43:28Speaker 1: making that affirmation in twenty twenty two, but I've just decided, Man,
- 43:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna care less about mess. I really I don't
- 43:35Speaker 1: fit to call stuff out. If you get up in
- 43:38Speaker 1: my face with some mess, get ready, get ready, because
- 43:42Speaker 1: I might not take that in your face though. Ain't
- 43:45Speaker 1: nobody done that? Just who did that? Tommy? I'm talking
- 43:52Speaker 1: about haters. Haters always try to get in your face.
- 43:56Speaker 1: I got something fun when all this happened. All right,
- 44:01Speaker 1: tom don't nobody walk up to me, like right up

- 48:06Speaker 1: is a segment we're gonna call asking for a Friend,
- 48:09Speaker 1: because you know we all have friends and they want
- 48:11Speaker 1: to know stuff about you. They ask the stuff all
- 48:13Speaker 1: the time. Okay, so my friends ask me, well, how
- 48:16Speaker 1: much money does Steve have? Okay, you know that's a
- 48:22Speaker 1: question that's you know, being proposed often to people like myself.
- 48:27Speaker 1: Let's just say, you know, I have enough to do
- 48:32Speaker 1: some things. You know, I have what's called option money,
- 48:36Speaker 1: meaning that I have options. I just call it option money.
- 48:43Speaker 1: You know, I've had option less money before, but I
- 48:46Speaker 1: now have option funds while I have options. That's how
- 48:51Speaker 1: much I have a you gotta ask. I just have
- 48:57Speaker 1: option money. That's all it is. It's not a suthing number.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Don't I don't want to mess your day up or nothing.
- 49:03Speaker 1: You know, Junior, you gotta you gotta question for this.
- 49:07Speaker 1: This is not even for me. I would never ask
- 49:09Speaker 1: you this. This just from a friend. I never would
- 49:12Speaker 1: say this, Jenner. But they just wanted to know. Will
- 49:15Speaker 1: you and cat William ever have dinner? Well, I'd have
- 49:20Speaker 1: Denner with him, you know, if you know, if he
- 49:27Speaker 1: wanted to, you know, wanted to talk. But but but
- 49:29Speaker 1: what he can't He can't say nothing crazy after dinner though.
- 49:32Speaker 1: He can't do that. He can't do that because he
- 49:36Speaker 1: gonna immediately find out what the size difference in me
- 49:39Speaker 1: and him. Can't do it. And uh, that's all I'm
- 49:42Speaker 1: saying about that. Next question, Yeah, yeah, yeah, we have dinner,
- 49:48Speaker 1: but make sure you wants to eat what we're serving.
- 49:52Speaker 1: A buddy of mine wants you to listen to his
- 49:55Speaker 1: uncle's band Lining in the Tops. They out of Memphis. Yeah,
- 50:01Speaker 1: and uh, they're getting ready. They all in their sixties.
- 50:04Speaker 1: They get ready to start their own group, Line and
- 50:06Speaker 1: the Tops. Yeah, right there, right there. Yeah, I'm not
- 50:09Speaker 1: listening to that because you're in your sixties, you're fitting
- 50:11Speaker 1: to start a group called Lonnie in the Tops. Yeah,
- 50:16Speaker 1: and anybody got time for that? I don't know record
- 50:19Speaker 1: deal for sixty year old people out of Memphis with
- 50:22Speaker 1: a group called Lonnie in the Tops. First of all,
- 50:24Speaker 1: ain't nobody down record name Lynnie, no dame, No, let's
- 50:27Speaker 1: just start there. Nobody named Lonnie in the music room.
- 50:33Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemate, come on now, put your hands together
- 50:40Speaker 1: for Lonnie Linna and the Top, not the Foe Tops,
- 50:49Speaker 1: not the Hot Tops, just learning and the Tops. You
- 50:56Speaker 1: ain't gonna know none of them. Anybody nobody name? All right,
- 51:02Speaker 1: I got you got asking for a friend, what you got.
- 51:06Speaker 1: If you could change anything about your past, what would
- 51:13Speaker 1: it be? All my marriages with both and I could
- 51:21Speaker 1: have skipped both of him. You're just sixty five and
- 51:27Speaker 1: just saying whatever you want after dribble, ask me anything
- 51:31Speaker 1: you want to two marriages both by That just went
- 51:34Speaker 1: straight to Margree. Oh god, that was kind of my question,
- 51:40Speaker 1: but I'll phrase it, Okay, something different, No, something different.
- 51:45Speaker 1: So asking for a friend, Steve, they want to know
- 51:47Speaker 1: how can they meet you know, a rich, successful man
- 51:51Speaker 1: like you? Oh, you can't, you can't, you can't. Just
- 51:57Speaker 1: want tell the truth. Let's just tell the truth. You can't,
- 52:00Speaker 1: you can vote, can't? You can't? Where you ain't? So far?
- 52:04Speaker 1: So what's been? And what you think? Then? To change?
- 52:10Speaker 1: I ain't being stands standing you with nothing, just where
- 52:12Speaker 1: they at? They far a few between and you can
- 52:16Speaker 1: get in line too, because you ain't the only one.
- 52:18Speaker 1: I want to meet one. So if you meet him,
- 52:20Speaker 1: the question becomes not do you get to meet him,
- 52:23Speaker 1: but did he want to meet you? I am killing
- 52:29Speaker 1: new dreams. I'm just where you want. Who do you
- 52:32Speaker 1: want to meet? Asking Tiger Woods? Really you've never met
- 52:37Speaker 1: Tiger Woods is the only person I've never met that.
- 52:40Speaker 1: I want to sit down a half denal with the
- 52:42Speaker 1: only person I've met. Everybody else I've ever wanted to
- 52:45Speaker 1: God has gifted me that. I met Mara Luther King
- 52:48Speaker 1: I've sat down with I mean nothing nothing, I mean.
- 52:51Speaker 1: I met Mohammad Ali, I met, I met Mary Luke King.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Jesus I would have been eleven he'd held him school. Yeah,
- 52:58Speaker 1: that was. I met Richard Prye, I met Muhammad Ali,
- 53:03Speaker 1: I met Jesse Jackson, Al Shafton, Michael Jones, Shack, all
- 53:07Speaker 1: the cats, everybody ever wanted to meet, Steph Kerry, step
- 53:10Speaker 1: Carry Daddy. I'd met everybody man, I met all over all. Right, Well,
- 53:15Speaker 1: it's your birthday. We're gonna be talking to your all.
- 53:17Speaker 1: Morning Chick fil A with Kanye How was that? Who
- 53:24Speaker 1: was interested? That was an interesting as day? Boys? Coming

- 54:06Speaker 1: dot com. Slash Harvey, you're listening to show. Doctor Martin
- 54:12Speaker 1: Luther King Jr. Once Said that life's most persistent and
- 54:16Speaker 1: urgent question is what are you doing for others? Coming up?
- 54:19Speaker 1: We got some excerpts from Doctor Kings. I've been to
- 54:22Speaker 1: the mountaintop speech. Let us rise up tonight with a
- 54:27Speaker 1: greater readiness in these powerful days. These days a challenge
- 54:37Speaker 1: to make America what it ought to be. We have
- 54:41Speaker 1: an opportunity to make America a better nation. And I
- 54:46Speaker 1: want to thank God once more for allowing me to
- 54:50Speaker 1: be here with you. You know, several years ago, I
- 54:54Speaker 1: was in New York City autographing the first book that
- 54:58Speaker 1: I had written. While sitting the autographing books, the minute
- 55:04Speaker 1: black woman came up. The only question I heard from
- 55:08Speaker 1: her was you Mardin Luther King. And I was looking
- 55:12Speaker 1: down writing and I said yes. The next minute, I
- 55:16Speaker 1: felt something beating on my chest. Before I knew it,
- 55:20Speaker 1: I had been stabbed by this deminuted woman. I was
- 55:23Speaker 1: rushed to Hullum Hospital. It was a dog Saturday afternoon.
- 55:29Speaker 1: That blade had gone through, and the X rays revealed
- 55:33Speaker 1: that the tip of the blade was on the edge
- 55:36Speaker 1: of my air order. The main uttering and one suchs punction.
- 55:41Speaker 1: You drowned in your own blood. That's the end of you.
- 55:45Speaker 1: It came out in the New York Times the next
- 55:48Speaker 1: morning that if I had merely sneezed, I would have died. Well.
- 55:52Speaker 1: About four days later, they allowed me after the operation,
- 55:57Speaker 1: after my chest had been opened and the blade had
- 55:59Speaker 1: been taken, to move around in the wheelchair and the hospital,
- 56:04Speaker 1: they allowed me to read some of the mail that
- 56:06Speaker 1: came in, and from all over the states and the world.
- 56:09Speaker 1: Kind letters came in. I read a few, but one
- 56:14Speaker 1: of them I will never forget. I had received one
- 56:18Speaker 1: from the President and the Vice President. I've forgotten what
- 56:21Speaker 1: those telegrams said. I'd received the visit and a letter
- 56:25Speaker 1: from the Governor of New York, but I've forgotten what
- 56:27Speaker 1: that letters say it. But that was another letter that
- 56:33Speaker 1: came from a little girl, a young girl who was
- 56:37Speaker 1: a student at the White Plains High School. And I
- 56:40Speaker 1: looked at that letter. I'll never forget it, said simply,
- 56:43Speaker 1: dear Doctor King, I am a ninth grade student at
- 56:49Speaker 1: the White Plains High School. She said. While it should
- 56:53Speaker 1: not matter, I would like to mention that I'm a
- 56:55Speaker 1: white girl. I read in the paper of your misfortune
- 57:02Speaker 1: and of your suffering, and I read that if you
- 57:05Speaker 1: had sneezed, you would have died. I'm simply right in
- 57:09Speaker 1: you to say that I'm so happy that you didn't sneeze.
- 57:13Speaker 1: And I'd want to say to Night. I want to
- 57:16Speaker 1: say to Night that I too, am happy that I
- 57:19Speaker 1: didn't sneeze. Because of I had sneeze, I wouldn't have
- 57:22Speaker 1: been around Hid in nineteen sixty when students all over
- 57:26Speaker 1: the South started sitting in a lunchtouns, and I knew
- 57:30Speaker 1: that as they were sitting in they were really standing
- 57:33Speaker 1: up for the best in the American dream and taken
- 57:37Speaker 1: the whole nation back to those great weals of democracy
- 57:40Speaker 1: which were dug deep by the founding fathers in the
- 57:43Speaker 1: Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. If I had sneezed,
- 57:48Speaker 1: I wouldn't have been around Hid in nineteen sixty one,
- 57:51Speaker 1: when we decided to take a ride for freedom and
- 57:55Speaker 1: end its segregation in it to state travel. If I
- 57:58Speaker 1: had sneeze, I wouldn't have been around here in nineteen
- 58:04Speaker 1: sixty two when Nigros and all been at Georgia decided
- 58:08Speaker 1: to straighten that box up. And whenever men and women
- 58:11Speaker 1: straighten that box up, they're going somewhere because a man
- 58:15Speaker 1: had roger back unless it is bent. If I had sneezed,
- 58:20Speaker 1: I had sneezed, I wouldn't have been here. In nineteen
- 58:23Speaker 1: sixty three, the black people of Birmingham, Alabama aroused the
- 58:31Speaker 1: conscience of this nation and brought into being the Civil
- 58:35Speaker 1: Rights Bill. If I had sneeze, I wouldn't have had
- 58:38Speaker 1: a chance later that year in August to try to
- 58:41Speaker 1: tell America about a dream that I had had. If
- 58:45Speaker 1: I had sneeze, I wouldn't have been down in Selma,
- 58:50Speaker 1: Alabama to see the Gretain movement there. If I had sneeze,
- 58:56Speaker 1: I wouldn't have been in Memphis to see our community
- 59:00Speaker 1: rally around those brothers and sisters who are suffering. I'm
- 59:06Speaker 1: so happy that I didn't snead, and they were telling
- 59:09Speaker 1: me now it doesn't matter now. It really doesn't matter
- 59:13Speaker 1: what happens now. I left Atlanta this morning and as
- 59:17Speaker 1: we got started on the plane that was six of us,
- 59:20Speaker 1: the pilot said over the public address system, we are
- 59:26Speaker 1: sorry for the delaye but we have doctor Martin Luther
- 59:30Speaker 1: King on the plane and to be sure that all
- 59:34Speaker 1: of the bags were checked and to be sure that
- 59:38Speaker 1: nothing would be wrong on the plane, we had to
- 59:42Speaker 1: check out everything carefully, and we've had the plane protected
- 59:47Speaker 1: and guard it all night. And then I got into
- 59:50Speaker 1: Memphis and some began to say the threats I talk
- 59:56Speaker 1: about the threats that were out or what would happen
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: to me from some of our sick white brothers. Well,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: I don't know what will happen now. We've got some
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter with me now,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: because I've been to the mountaintop. I don't mind. Like anybody,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: I would like to live a long life. Longevity has
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: its place, but I'm not concerned about that, nah. I
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: just want to do God's will, and He's allowed me
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: to go up to the mountain, and I've looked over
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: and I've seen the promised land. I may not get
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: there with you but I want you to know the
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: night that we as a people will get to the
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: Promised Land. So I'm happy tonight. I'm not worried about anything.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: I'm feelit. Dinner man, Mine eyes have seen the glory
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: of the coming of the Lord. You're listening show coming up.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: We're gonna play some excerpts from Doctor King's I Have
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: a Dream speech. I am happy to john with you
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: today in what will go down in history as the
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Five score years ago, a great American in whose symbolic
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: decree came as a great beacon light of Pope the
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: millions of Negro slaves who have been seared in the
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous day
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: break to end the long night of their captivity. But
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: one hundred years later, the Negro steal is not free.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: on a lonely island of poverty, in the midst of
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later,
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: the Negro is still languished in the corners of American
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: society and finds himself in exile in his own land.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: So we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: In a sense, we've come to our nation's capital to
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: cash a check. When the architects of our Republic wrote
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: they were signing a promise or inote, to whichever the
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: American was to fall air. This note was a promise
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: at all men, yes, black men as well as white men,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: the pursuit of happiness. It is obvious today that America
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: has defaulted on this promise, or in so far as
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: her citizens of law our concerned. Instead of honoring this
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: a check which has come back mark insufficient funds. But
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: we refuse to believe that the Bank of Justice is bankrupt.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: He refused to believe that that are insufficient funds in
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. So we've
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: come to cash this check, a check that will give
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: us a pun demand the riches of freedom and the
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: security of justice. We have also come to this hell
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: of spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: offer to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: is the time arise from the dark and desolate valley
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: is the time quick sends a racial injustice to the
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: solid rock or brotherhood. Now is the time the reality
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: for all of god'st It would be fatal for the
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: nation to overlook the urgency of the moment disweltering summer
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: of the Negroes. Legitimate discontent will not pass until that
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: is an invigorating altumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: three is not an end, but a beginning. Those who
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: hope that the negro needed to blow off steam and
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: will now be content will have a rude awakening. If
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: the nation returns to business as usual, there will be
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: neither rest nor tranquility in America until the negro has
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds a revolt will continue
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: day of justice emerges. But that is something that I
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: must say to my people who stand on the warm
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: threshold which leads into the palace of justice. In the
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: guilty of wrong for deeds. Let us not seek to
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: satisfy first for freedom by drinking from the cup of
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: bitterness and hatred. You're listening show right now. As promise,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: we're gonna play some of doctor Kings. I have a
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: dream speech which he delivered on the steps of the
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: Lincoln Memorial back in nineteen sixty three. One day, right
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: now in Alabama, little black bars and black girls, we'll
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: be able to join hands with little white bars and
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: white girls as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: I have a dream that one day every valace shall
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: be exalted, every hill and mountains shall be made Lord.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: The rough places will be made clean, and the crooked
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: places will be made straight, and the gore of the
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: Lord shall be revealed in all shall see it together
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: This is our hope. This is a piece that I
