- 0:26Speaker 1: to you. My next guest is a young man who's
- 0:29Speaker 1: rising above those bigger obstacles and living his dream And
- 0:32Speaker 1: his dreams are big and he's accomplished a lot of
- 0:34Speaker 1: big things. My next guest is joh Hee Winston. He
- 0:37Speaker 1: currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia. John he enjoyed playing baseball, singing,
- 0:41Speaker 1: and working on building his nonprofit organization called You Can Too,
- 0:46Speaker 1: which encourages kids to pursue their dreams and the arts
- 0:49Speaker 1: and education. His career started on on Broadway, New York Broadway,
- 0:53Speaker 1: The Broadway Broadway as Young Simba, and Disney production The
- 0:57Speaker 1: Line King. He has shared the screen with Kevin Hart

- 1:10Speaker 1: which will be streaming on HBO Max. I have seen
- 1:13Speaker 1: the movie. It's fantastic. Please welcome to Money Making Conversations.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Johhy Winston. Hello, Hello, thank you for having me. Well,
- 1:22Speaker 1: thank you, Johnny. Can I ask you how old you
- 1:24Speaker 1: are right now? Fifteen years old and you have a
- 1:29Speaker 1: foundation a nonprofit organization called You Can't to Hollow? Is
- 1:33Speaker 1: that nonprofit? Um, it's sixteen years old. We started it
- 1:38Speaker 1: I think maybe eighteen right around closer? Yeah, yeah, Okay,
- 1:48Speaker 1: tell us what it is because this is really interesting
- 1:50Speaker 1: that you know, you're fifteen. Most people are concerned about
- 1:53Speaker 1: I'm not saying that their selfish, but concerned about their
- 1:56Speaker 1: own personal games. And here you are trying to get
- 1:58Speaker 1: back and help on individuals. Because we all know that
- 2:01Speaker 1: arts and education is a tough field to get into
- 2:04Speaker 1: and to pursue most of success. So you decided to
- 2:08Speaker 1: start something. Tell us about what exactly it is and
- 2:12Speaker 1: how can students participate? Well, You Can't Do is a
- 2:17Speaker 1: nonprofit organization and basically we um mostly operating marginalized communities,
- 2:24Speaker 1: whether it be the in the cities of Atlanta, the sea,
- 2:27Speaker 1: or anywhere UM in the country. UM and the organization
- 2:33Speaker 1: that allows and helps young kids in those modernized communities
- 2:38Speaker 1: specifically to achieve their dreams and go after whatever they want.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Because often times the environments where the resources are in
- 2:45Speaker 1: the last UM here than maybe the middle class suburbs
- 2:50Speaker 1: of Georgia or anywhere else. You don't have the resources,
- 2:54Speaker 1: then you don't have the the visibility to actually see
- 2:58Speaker 1: and be able to accomplish your your goals. And so
- 3:01Speaker 1: UM we have tools and we go into schools and talk.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Obviously I can't do that now because of the pandemic,
- 3:08Speaker 1: but uh, that's primarily the work that we do in
- 3:12Speaker 1: marginal Do you do anything now because of the pandemic
- 3:16Speaker 1: or you know via zoom or via any virtual platforms. Well,
- 3:20Speaker 1: we're trying to brainstorm and try to come up ways
- 3:24Speaker 1: and innovative ways that we can still be productive during
- 3:26Speaker 1: this time. That's sort of been what we've been doing
- 3:29Speaker 1: during quarantine, is just trying to brainstorm and come up
- 3:34Speaker 1: with different ways that we can expand and still be
- 3:37Speaker 1: productive during the pandemic. You know, I have I have
- 3:40Speaker 1: the honor of and this is just listening to you
- 3:43Speaker 1: talk and watching your career, and I have a something
- 3:47Speaker 1: that honor black men. It's called the Cafe Moka Swag
- 3:50Speaker 1: Award CASTO because it's a female centric syndicate show for
- 3:56Speaker 1: women of color, like One Point Forward me and women
- 3:59Speaker 1: listen to the show weekly on syndications. The weekend show
- 4:02Speaker 1: and the Cafe Mocha Swagger was a celebration of black
- 4:05Speaker 1: men who are making a difference in our community by
- 4:07Speaker 1: empowering others to reach their life goals, from civic leaders, businessmen, activists,
- 4:12Speaker 1: celebrities and everyday dads. I'm gonna tell you something, joh
- 4:15Speaker 1: he I've never given that award to a teenager until now.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Oh um, you know, because because see, you know, and
- 4:29Speaker 1: I'm not trying to saying the thing that just you know,
- 4:34Speaker 1: you know, when I do research for I do an interview,
- 4:36Speaker 1: and so I get a pretty good grasp of what
- 4:39Speaker 1: a person I'm talking to. That's why some of the
- 4:40Speaker 1: interviews they sent come to the question they sent to me.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I go all page and people go nobody has ever
- 4:45Speaker 1: asked that question. Because I'm actually I kind of gotta
- 4:47Speaker 1: sense I'm a former entertainer. I managed some of the
- 4:50Speaker 1: biggest stars in this country and currently managed one of
- 4:52Speaker 1: the biggest stars in this country. And I produced a
- 4:54Speaker 1: lot of TV shows. And when I when I hear
- 4:58Speaker 1: a young man who's fifteen years old, who, like I said,
- 5:01Speaker 1: who's making a difference in our community by empowering others
- 5:05Speaker 1: to reach their life goals, that's you. Uh So, why
- 5:12Speaker 1: is that important to you to help people? And they're okay,
- 5:16Speaker 1: young people to reach their life goals? Oh man. I
- 5:22Speaker 1: think just everything that I do from a place of
- 5:26Speaker 1: wanting to to help first and foremost my people, um,
- 5:31Speaker 1: black people, not only my people, but primarily my people,
- 5:34Speaker 1: because um, you know, just the way that our societal
- 5:39Speaker 1: structure is in the hierarchical nature of it. Oftentimes, if
- 5:43Speaker 1: you are black and you are marginalized, you are born
- 5:47Speaker 1: with more strikes on you than um our Caucasian brothers
- 5:52Speaker 1: and sisters. So I think knowing that and being aware
- 5:56Speaker 1: of that, it makes you responsible because once you're at
- 6:00Speaker 1: catering on and once you're aware of it, you now
- 6:01Speaker 1: have a responsibility. You have the tools and you have
- 6:05Speaker 1: the resources, and so now it's your responsibility to do
- 6:08Speaker 1: something about that. And to make sure that UM. Just
- 6:12Speaker 1: because someone is UM maybe less fortunate when it comes
- 6:16Speaker 1: to privilege and power, it doesn't mean that they can't
- 6:19Speaker 1: have the same access to UM, their dreams and their
- 6:24Speaker 1: goals as anyone else who does have that privilege. Is
- 6:27Speaker 1: born with that privilege and that power. And so that's
- 6:31Speaker 1: where all of my works comes from, whether it be
- 6:33Speaker 1: the roles that I take, whether it be the work
- 6:35Speaker 1: that I do off screen and the stories that I
- 6:38Speaker 1: write and create and curate. I always want to come
- 6:41Speaker 1: from a place of Okay, how is my community going
- 6:43Speaker 1: to feel about this? And how can I service my community?
- 6:46Speaker 1: But by doing this, I want to I wanna go
- 6:50Speaker 1: to the movie that's currently out that's be out HBO
- 6:54Speaker 1: Max and October October eight, that be in fact called
- 6:57Speaker 1: Chom City Kings, and I want to at that wrapped
- 7:00Speaker 1: this conversation up with you be in great detail. I
- 7:02Speaker 1: want to go back to the young Simber days and
- 7:04Speaker 1: all these other opportunities you have. But I watched tomp sayons,
- 7:08Speaker 1: I couldn't take my eyes off young man. You have
- 7:11Speaker 1: the ability to wait for the moment. You have an
- 7:17Speaker 1: uncanny skill where you're dynamic enough to understand that sometimes
- 7:25Speaker 1: you don't have to say something to be effective. M
- 7:32Speaker 1: that's a I'm telling you when I right now, I'm
- 7:35Speaker 1: visually going through different scenes. One of my favorite scenes was, Uh,
- 7:39Speaker 1: I've seen the movie twice. Usually when I'm engaged in something,
- 7:41Speaker 1: I gotta gonna see this again, you know, because you
- 7:43Speaker 1: know when you see something. I'm saying Johnny, when you
- 7:46Speaker 1: see something two or three times, actually you really enjoy
- 7:48Speaker 1: it more because you start really because you are you
- 7:51Speaker 1: already know it's coming up, so you kind of see
- 7:53Speaker 1: it a little bit different. Oh, I didn't see that.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And one of my favorite scenes when Black shows up
- 7:58Speaker 1: at the summer run and then you just staring at him, man,
- 8:02Speaker 1: and that that's the moment I'm talking to you. Didn't
- 8:04Speaker 1: have to say anything, but you knew your acting ability
- 8:09Speaker 1: showed me how important he was in your life. Tell
- 8:17Speaker 1: me about that skill set, Tell me about that a bill.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Thank you. UM. I think that's just um, I don't know,
- 8:25Speaker 1: thank you. UM. I think that's just I skill something
- 8:28Speaker 1: that I picked up. I am. I gotta really great
- 8:31Speaker 1: compliment from a producer. Um, when I was working on
- 8:35Speaker 1: film that I did a few years ago. Uh, and
- 8:38Speaker 1: he said that the reason that I got the job
- 8:42Speaker 1: was basically what she said my ability. It wasn't what
- 8:46Speaker 1: I said is what I didn't say that really um
- 8:50Speaker 1: allowed me to get that job. And so I think
- 8:52Speaker 1: just focusing on that and naturally, when you're in the
- 8:55Speaker 1: moment as an actor, you know, if you're doing your right.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I think every shore that stack of ability to still
- 9:03Speaker 1: load and still be in the moment even when they're
- 9:06Speaker 1: not anything. So it really is, you know. And I'm
- 9:09Speaker 1: not telling I'm not telling you going all. This is
- 9:11Speaker 1: not saying anything, not y'all here. I'm just not telling. Okay,
- 9:13Speaker 1: now you gotta speak, Now you gotta speak. But you
- 9:16Speaker 1: have the ability to trust yourself. And I want to
- 9:19Speaker 1: go back because I saw Lion King. First time I
- 9:21Speaker 1: saw Lyon King was in Los Angeles, Okay, And then
- 9:25Speaker 1: I saw it in Las Vegas and Lord had mercy.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I went and saw it in New York City. That
- 9:31Speaker 1: New York City show is the real deal, you know
- 9:35Speaker 1: it is. That's where first team first team, the first
- 9:41Speaker 1: team first team. You know, you better have your act
- 9:45Speaker 1: together in New York City at the Lion King New
- 9:48Speaker 1: York City. Tell us about how that opportunity happened. To
- 9:51Speaker 1: you happened for you to be young Simba. In New
- 9:54Speaker 1: York City, everybody live out this at the stage because
- 9:57Speaker 1: everybody think all Lion Kings are like, no, they're they're good,
- 10:03Speaker 1: They're good, right, Yeah, all of the productions are great.
- 10:08Speaker 1: All I can say that all the productions I think
- 10:11Speaker 1: are great. UM, but you're right, and you I mean,
- 10:14Speaker 1: it's the flash your production, So it definitely it's different. UM.
- 10:19Speaker 1: But I will say the modified version, the modified story
- 10:22Speaker 1: of how I became a part of the Lion King. UM.
- 10:26Speaker 1: A friend of my brothers UM sent over the audition
- 10:30Speaker 1: for an open casting call for young symbers and young
- 10:33Speaker 1: knowledge to be in the Broadway production and the National
- 10:36Speaker 1: tool production of The Lion King. UM to that audition
- 10:40Speaker 1: and that that first audition there was about UM five
- 10:44Speaker 1: hundred kids there. And for those who aren't familiar with
- 10:47Speaker 1: the UM an open casting call, it's basically it's not
- 10:50Speaker 1: just for professional actors for everyone. It's for everybody. You know,
- 10:54Speaker 1: they call Pooking and them everybody to come down an
- 10:58Speaker 1: audition for it. So I went to that audition, I
- 11:01Speaker 1: ended up getting a callback. I got another call back
- 11:03Speaker 1: after that audition, and then I went to New York
- 11:06Speaker 1: City to audition in front of the executives or the
- 11:10Speaker 1: the yes, the executives for the to the Lion King
- 11:14Speaker 1: on Broadway, and I ended up getting the role two
- 11:17Speaker 1: days later, and I moved to New York with my
- 11:20Speaker 1: mom and we lived in a shoebox apartment for about
- 11:23Speaker 1: fifteen months. And after that I got um the new
- 11:28Speaker 1: audition story, and everything just sort of started having to
- 11:32Speaker 1: that production. Now, let's let's let's get back to Chomp City.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Come on, I'm a bounce around because you you you,
- 11:40Speaker 1: You're just so talented that every story gonna take me
- 11:42Speaker 1: in a different direction, but it all leads back to
- 11:45Speaker 1: Chomp City Kings. How did that happen for you? My friend?
- 11:49Speaker 1: That movie opportunity? Okay, um, just like any other I was,
- 11:54Speaker 1: actually I was. There was a challenging year. I went
- 11:58Speaker 1: in a movie that didn't do as well as that
- 12:00Speaker 1: I was gonna do, and a TV show that got
- 12:02Speaker 1: canceled out the one season. And in the midst of
- 12:05Speaker 1: trying to figure out where I want, what I wanted
- 12:06Speaker 1: to do next, and just trying to figure out what
- 12:09Speaker 1: was the next stage in my career, the my agent
- 12:12Speaker 1: sent over trying to the script for Trum City kings
- 12:15Speaker 1: Um and I put off reading it for a while
- 12:17Speaker 1: because I was like, no, this is I don't think
- 12:18Speaker 1: this is the right project, even though I hadn't read
- 12:20Speaker 1: the script, but I auditioned for it anyway. I put
- 12:24Speaker 1: myself on tape and Uh, I got a call back
- 12:27Speaker 1: and they I read again, and then eventually I went
- 12:31Speaker 1: to Los Angeles and I screen tested forward with Danielle
- 12:35Speaker 1: Hansley litt D and UH because I Curtis, who are
- 12:39Speaker 1: also in the movie that played they played Lamont and
- 12:41Speaker 1: Swear to God, I screen tested with them and I
- 12:44Speaker 1: am screen testing in front of on Health Mineral Soto,
- 12:46Speaker 1: our director, and UH. I think leaving that room, the
- 12:50Speaker 1: three of us knew that mostly knew obviously that until
- 12:55Speaker 1: we've gotten the job yet. But I think we could
- 12:57Speaker 1: steal the energy that that we that we had done
- 13:00Speaker 1: something specially, so maybe a week later. I think we
- 13:03Speaker 1: got maybe a week later, which is which is unusual
- 13:09Speaker 1: because sometimes it takes months. Yea a week later, you
- 13:17Speaker 1: know what I'm saying exactly for real, it was dhing.
- 13:22Speaker 1: But like I said, I think we knew from the
- 13:24Speaker 1: energy in the room, just the chemistry between the three
- 13:27Speaker 1: of us that we that we had done something specially
- 13:29Speaker 1: if we knew nothing else, we knew that we had
- 13:31Speaker 1: sort of killed the audition and that we had a
- 13:33Speaker 1: special chemistry and bond on screen. Um. And so a
- 13:38Speaker 1: week later they said that they wanted me, and we
- 13:41Speaker 1: worked out the deal, and I was still sort of uncertain,
- 13:43Speaker 1: but I was like, all right, I'm gonna trust my gun.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I'm sure of God, and I went fusting head and
- 13:48Speaker 1: it was it was really cool. And I think I'll
- 13:51Speaker 1: say this about Trump City Kings. It was my first
- 13:54Speaker 1: time being at the center of a story, I'll say, um.
- 13:59Speaker 1: And I definitely think that it sharpened my work ethic.
- 14:02Speaker 1: I worked very hard on an off screen you know.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I would do maybe nine and a half hour days,
- 14:09Speaker 1: and I worked every single day, every single day of
- 14:12Speaker 1: production I was there. Um, I think I had maybe
- 14:15Speaker 1: a day and a half off and I worked every
- 14:18Speaker 1: single day. And I would come home to the hotel
- 14:21Speaker 1: at night and still work on the script and work
- 14:23Speaker 1: on the accident work of a dialect. Like I really
- 14:26Speaker 1: worked hard on this. And so this is a labor
- 14:29Speaker 1: of love from all of us who are part of
- 14:31Speaker 1: the film, And yeah, we're just really excited and proud
- 14:33Speaker 1: of it for for sure. Now when I when I
- 14:37Speaker 1: hear you talk like this about it, I I do.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I do I see a young director? I would be
- 14:44Speaker 1: born here. Uh, sir Johnny, do I hear uh? Uh
- 14:49Speaker 1: you you right listen speak it? How would see it? Yeah?
- 14:54Speaker 1: For sure? For sure, absolutely because of the fact that
- 14:58Speaker 1: that uh when I when I you have first of all,
- 15:01Speaker 1: you have a passion for you have a God give.
- 15:02Speaker 1: God is giving you a brilliant talent that you're exercising
- 15:06Speaker 1: and maximizing with hard work and focus. That's how you
- 15:09Speaker 1: win long term. You don't win long term, you know, uh,
- 15:13Speaker 1: just doing it when you feel like it. You know,
- 15:15Speaker 1: you know you can't just because you can doctor basketball.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I mean you can shoot shoot a basketball. We've learned
- 15:20Speaker 1: that in life. And so Meek mills his role in
- 15:24Speaker 1: the movie um mentor let's talk about his role off
- 15:30Speaker 1: screen with you and because if it felt very genuine
- 15:34Speaker 1: on screen, yeah, um, Meek and I it was interesting
- 15:41Speaker 1: because Meek released his last on that he released Championships.
- 15:46Speaker 1: He was working on that while we were shooting the movie.
- 15:50Speaker 1: And uh, he has an incredible work out that he
- 15:53Speaker 1: was he was going back and forth. I mean, you
- 15:56Speaker 1: can't you one of the things you can't say about
- 15:58Speaker 1: me because that he doesn't work hard. He works extremely hard. Um,
- 16:02Speaker 1: and he was doing championships while he was going coming
- 16:05Speaker 1: back and forth doing shows, working on the album, and
- 16:08Speaker 1: doing the movie full time. So um, he has incredible
- 16:12Speaker 1: work ethic and also, uh, one of the things that
- 16:14Speaker 1: people don't know about him is that he's actually kind
- 16:17Speaker 1: of shy and reserved until himself. I would say, I
- 16:20Speaker 1: think people have a preconceived notion of the rappers in general,
- 16:24Speaker 1: just because of the field that they're in, Um, in
- 16:27Speaker 1: the braggadocious nature that is sort of required to do that. Um,
- 16:32Speaker 1: But he's been He's he's a really nice and simple guy,
- 16:36Speaker 1: really shy and um. He he came prepared, and you know,
- 16:40Speaker 1: we all sort of it was a team effort to
- 16:43Speaker 1: sort of make him feel comfortable because this is the
- 16:45Speaker 1: first time, his first time doing like a movie of
- 16:49Speaker 1: this magnitude and mine as well. So I think we
- 16:52Speaker 1: sort of help each other out in that sense. Um.
- 16:54Speaker 1: He would ask me questions and I would ask him questions.
- 16:57Speaker 1: And the cool thing about it is we were both
- 16:59Speaker 1: equal inquisitive when it came to how each of us worked,
- 17:03Speaker 1: and I was watch him from a distance and sort
- 17:05Speaker 1: of see how he worked and how he got into it.
- 17:08Speaker 1: And it wasn't It was really cool to get to
- 17:10Speaker 1: work with him and see him become more and more
- 17:13Speaker 1: emerging to the process at production went on. Now, when
- 17:17Speaker 1: you say the production, now, when we were talking about
- 17:20Speaker 1: its three friends, young teeners friends in this movie, and
- 17:24Speaker 1: and uh, it likens me to another one of my
- 17:27Speaker 1: favorite movies on a series on Showtime, The Shot. There's
- 17:30Speaker 1: three young men in that series that I really really
- 17:33Speaker 1: are emotionally have tied to, and I worry about doing
- 17:38Speaker 1: the series and and I think that's what happens when
- 17:41Speaker 1: you have good chemistry in that television series and Shot.
- 17:44Speaker 1: And so now when I go to Chomp City Kings,
- 17:48Speaker 1: I found myself worrying about you three little bad suckers. Okay,
- 17:52Speaker 1: warning about what y'all gonna get into that's not gonna
- 17:54Speaker 1: lead to anything that's positive in your life. That's the
- 17:57Speaker 1: chemistry you was talking about, creating relatable care chactors that
- 18:01Speaker 1: people can like be motivated to root for and be
- 18:04Speaker 1: sad if they don't achieve the success that they're planning
- 18:08Speaker 1: or shooting to get in life that how did that?
- 18:11Speaker 1: How did that play itself out? When we talked about
- 18:13Speaker 1: Meek meo. But that chemistry that you three had on screen,
- 18:17Speaker 1: I have on screen because the movie is coming out
- 18:19Speaker 1: on HBO Max in October. Talk about that. Well, Like
- 18:24Speaker 1: I said before, I think because I uh V Danielle
- 18:29Speaker 1: n Um, we knew leaving the chemistry read that if
- 18:34Speaker 1: even if we didn't get the jar, we knew that
- 18:36Speaker 1: we had done something special in the room and we
- 18:39Speaker 1: did the screen test, and uh, it was really amazing
- 18:44Speaker 1: to see our bond development growth throughout the filming of
- 18:47Speaker 1: the movie and for us to trust trust each other
- 18:52Speaker 1: this um throughout the process of filming and um just
- 18:56Speaker 1: get closer off screening on screen. It was that whole
- 19:01Speaker 1: All of that, you know, goes into how well the
- 19:04Speaker 1: chemistry is on screen, And I think we all knew that,
- 19:06Speaker 1: and on hell, our director and our producer Kyle Pinkett
- 19:10Speaker 1: knew that, Um, if the chemistry between us doesn't work,
- 19:14Speaker 1: then the movie doesn't work. We are center in the
- 19:17Speaker 1: heart of the movie and there is the friendship between
- 19:20Speaker 1: Miles Lamont and Sweare to God. So I think knowing
- 19:24Speaker 1: that and knowing the responsibility that allowed us to trust
- 19:31Speaker 1: each other more in to give an authentic performance in
- 19:34Speaker 1: the trail on the screen, very authentic. I'm talking to
- 19:37Speaker 1: John hey Winston to start pars shines as it leads
- 19:40Speaker 1: to highly acclaimed Sundance Award winning feature film Charm City Kings,
- 19:44Speaker 1: which is an executive abuse by Will and Jada Smith,
- 19:47Speaker 1: also starring my man. We just talked about it rapper
- 19:49Speaker 1: Meek Mill and We're coming out and were released October
- 19:53Speaker 1: eight on HBO. Max Um, Karen Hart on your resume, Okay,
- 19:58Speaker 1: now we're gonna we're gonna start talking to us now
- 20:00Speaker 1: to your John he Uh, to Roger be Hinton on
- 20:03Speaker 1: your resume, okay, uh you know uh Will and Jason
- 20:07Speaker 1: Smith on your resume. Uhm m. How am I talking
- 20:11Speaker 1: to you John here? I don't I don't know if
- 20:13Speaker 1: I'm I don't know if I'm flying in that that
- 20:15Speaker 1: level of air right now? How am I talking to you?
- 20:18Speaker 1: John heat? Because you're you're you're up. That boy you
- 20:21Speaker 1: got your food change is pretty powerful right now? Talk
- 20:24Speaker 1: to me about it. Working with these people and what
- 20:26Speaker 1: have they brought to you as far as because you're
- 20:29Speaker 1: very mature, let's don't just get that out mature. You're
- 20:32Speaker 1: very focused. You want of these kids who who get
- 20:35Speaker 1: it early on. You always tell people, you know, President
- 20:37Speaker 1: Obama didn't didn't think about being the president when he
- 20:41Speaker 1: decided to run for president. He prepared to be your
- 20:43Speaker 1: president when I when I, when I did my homework
- 20:46Speaker 1: on you and listening to this interview, this is something
- 20:49Speaker 1: you wanted to do, man, and you you were preparing
- 20:51Speaker 1: every day to be successful at it. And I saw
- 20:54Speaker 1: it in Chomp City King more than anything, because, like
- 20:57Speaker 1: you said, that was your first leading role. There's the
- 20:59Speaker 1: first time putting yourself out there where if you suck,
- 21:02Speaker 1: then the movie sucks. Of course it didn't happen because
- 21:05Speaker 1: it was an award when you Feature Film at sun Dance.
- 21:08Speaker 1: And so talk about working with these incredibly iconic talents
- 21:13Speaker 1: that are recognizable on social media, that are recognizable and
- 21:16Speaker 1: needy magazine that they appear on the they create engagement
- 21:21Speaker 1: when they appear on TV and in the movies. Talk
- 21:24Speaker 1: about those relationships started with my man Kevin hard Well. Uh,
- 21:30Speaker 1: all of those um relationships and the dynamics and working
- 21:35Speaker 1: with all those people have been great. But I'll say
- 21:37Speaker 1: about Kevin, Kevin is more than anything, he's just a
- 21:41Speaker 1: genuinely nice, high human being. I think. I think that's
- 21:47Speaker 1: the general consensus from everyone who has worked with him,
- 21:50Speaker 1: is that his his heart and his spirit and energy.
- 21:53Speaker 1: On set, he exudes such positivity, like that's not just
- 21:57Speaker 1: his brand for no reason, the whole positive silty thing
- 22:00Speaker 1: in a positive vibe like he exudes that on and
- 22:03Speaker 1: off screen, when the cameras are on and when they're off. Um.
- 22:07Speaker 1: And uh, she's just a naturally giving person. And like
- 22:10Speaker 1: I said, he's just really kind and that's just who
- 22:12Speaker 1: we used. By nature. He doesn't know he can't be
- 22:15Speaker 1: anything else. And that's when you know that he's genuine
- 22:17Speaker 1: and authentic when you know you really can't be you
- 22:20Speaker 1: don't know how any other way to be, but who
- 22:23Speaker 1: you are, which is giving and generous person. Uh. I'll say, uh,
- 22:29Speaker 1: taragi Um was an incredible experience just because I literally
- 22:33Speaker 1: grew up watching and I grew up watching all of
- 22:35Speaker 1: those people that you name, but well everybody. Yeah, but uh,
- 22:47Speaker 1: Aggie was pretty special just because you know, she's sort
- 22:50Speaker 1: of a hometown girl. My family is from DC and
- 22:53Speaker 1: she's from the same area. Here's my mom and my
- 22:56Speaker 1: my oun and where my mom grew up. So that
- 22:59Speaker 1: was pretty special to do that. It was a full
- 23:01Speaker 1: circle moment. Uh. And my mom and Taraji used to
- 23:06Speaker 1: go to the same hair style is back in the day,
- 23:10Speaker 1: but they didn't know each other. And my mom this
- 23:13Speaker 1: is crazy. My mom was in the salon the day
- 23:17Speaker 1: before Taragi left for Hollywood. Tarajia come in and said,
- 23:22Speaker 1: the story is Tarja coming in and like, hey, y'all,
- 23:25Speaker 1: you know, make sure y'all tell me, you know, goodbye
- 23:29Speaker 1: and wish me luck because I used to go to
- 23:31Speaker 1: l A tomorrow. Um, and my mom was the day that,
- 23:36Speaker 1: the day before Taraggi left to go down. That's how
- 23:40Speaker 1: twenty fis years later. You know, I got to work
- 23:44Speaker 1: with her and we got to sort of my mom
- 23:47Speaker 1: Taragic got to sort of talked about that. But yeah,
- 23:49Speaker 1: that was incredible, and you know, it's just all of
- 23:52Speaker 1: these experiences have been really really beautiful in full circle.
- 23:56Speaker 1: The fact that I'm still pinching myself, the fact that
- 23:58Speaker 1: I get to work with them and bond with them
- 24:01Speaker 1: and throughout these sort of like mind industry, very godmother, right,
- 24:07Speaker 1: you check in every now and then. I wish the
- 24:09Speaker 1: happy birthday. So yeah, I'm really grateful for all of
- 24:13Speaker 1: those relationships and experiences. Now when you when you look
- 24:18Speaker 1: at the life in general. Um, I live in Atlanta,
- 24:22Speaker 1: h you know, not trail, not trying to get into
- 24:25Speaker 1: your life anything, but I do like your lot. If you,
- 24:28Speaker 1: if you could, you tell me you're like, you know
- 24:30Speaker 1: your outdoors you kind of a guy. Um. The movie
- 24:35Speaker 1: is about bikes, watching these skills sets out there. I
- 24:38Speaker 1: just want to bounce back because I got to talk
- 24:40Speaker 1: about that because Lord knows, I couldn't do none of
- 24:43Speaker 1: the things those young men were doing skill set wise
- 24:47Speaker 1: out there. With just talk about that experience in general,
- 24:50Speaker 1: watching that and watching it being taped and realizing that
- 24:54Speaker 1: that's a whole different level skill set level out there,
- 24:57Speaker 1: that that's that's that's that's special. Oh my gosh. That
- 25:02Speaker 1: was one of my favorite parts of Like any time
- 25:05Speaker 1: my scene wasn't though, I would always we would because
- 25:08Speaker 1: I d D and out. We would always want to
- 25:09Speaker 1: to stay and watch the riders do their stunts because
- 25:13Speaker 1: that was like the best part. Chino Braxton, Chino, shout
- 25:16Speaker 1: out Chino who's in the film. Uh he played his
- 25:19Speaker 1: Jamal in the film and uh he is known across
- 25:23Speaker 1: the world and I was about to say the country,
- 25:25Speaker 1: but across the world. That's one of the greatest dirt
- 25:28Speaker 1: bike riders. Like in the game, like he's crazy he
- 25:31Speaker 1: can cap dance. I'm this is a non exaggeration. He
- 25:34Speaker 1: could cap dance on the bike. Wow, with one wheel
- 25:39Speaker 1: in the air, Like it's really crazy. That's not an exaggeration.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Google it. Like he's a beat. And so to watch
- 25:46Speaker 1: that now, I they wouldn't let any of us near
- 25:50Speaker 1: the bike. They were like they were like absolutely no,
- 25:53Speaker 1: not no, you can't. They were like labor laws all
- 25:56Speaker 1: that stuff. So we didn't really get to ride. Sorry
- 25:59Speaker 1: if that room like the affect for anybody, but we
- 26:01Speaker 1: didn't really get to ride. However, the highlight was we
- 26:05Speaker 1: didn't need to, I feel, because we got to watch
- 26:07Speaker 1: and experience that like just dope environment of them and queens.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Shout out Queen to she was a dope writer too,
- 26:15Speaker 1: she was a female writer on the sand. That was
- 26:18Speaker 1: incredible watching watching them do this thing. Yeah, I had
- 26:22Speaker 1: to definitely had to get that shout out. And I
- 26:24Speaker 1: definitely don't not trying to tell the story, but that
- 26:26Speaker 1: is definitely watching them do their thing in the movie.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Is that of charm. Cindy King's an interviewing Johnny Winston,
- 26:34Speaker 1: the incredible lead players first league, a major lead in
- 26:37Speaker 1: a movie where he is to start. He's the guy
- 26:40Speaker 1: who cares to start pod cars this movie. Um, I
- 26:43Speaker 1: was going to say, man, about to wrap this up.
- 26:45Speaker 1: If you like fishing, man, I love to invite you
- 26:48Speaker 1: by my house man when you just want to relax
- 26:51Speaker 1: and talk. And I do a little a little backyard fishing, man.
- 26:54Speaker 1: I got a little uh little lake, got some some
- 26:57Speaker 1: some fishing there that catchable when I catch my thrown back.
- 27:00Speaker 1: But uh, you're You're definitely special with John he and
- 27:03Speaker 1: I wish you great luck in your career and definitely
- 27:06Speaker 1: we're gonna talk again because of the fact that you're
- 27:08Speaker 1: you're gonna be successful man. And when you and when
- 27:11Speaker 1: you're throwing out ideas about what to do with your
- 27:13Speaker 1: foundation from a virtual standpoint, reach out to me. That's
- 27:16Speaker 1: what I do for a living man. I make things happen, brother,
- 27:18Speaker 1: I really really do. And I also want to congratulate you,
- 27:21Speaker 1: and I hope you realize the importance of me selecting
- 27:25Speaker 1: you as a Caffee Moka Swag Award honor rate because
- 27:28Speaker 1: it's really important to me that you understand that because
- 27:31Speaker 1: you're making a difference at fifteen years old, you're making
- 27:34Speaker 1: a difference in younger young people's lives and younger people's lives,
- 27:38Speaker 1: and don't change. Okay, thank you so much. So I
- 27:41Speaker 1: really do appreciate it. Thank you. All Right, man, we
