- 1:43Speaker 1: eight World Championship gold medals. He's one of the greatest
- 1:47Speaker 1: athletes in the history of modern sports, named Sportsman of
- 1:50Speaker 1: the Century by the I o C. Please, welcome to
- 1:54Speaker 1: money making conversation. My man, call Louis, Hey, how are
- 1:59Speaker 1: you doing? Oh? I like that background? Hey, call call
- 2:05Speaker 1: call see let's a Car, I just couldn't introduce you.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I had to introduce you well you know, and I'll
- 2:12Speaker 1: take that withe on the road. How about that? I mean,
- 2:14Speaker 1: you know something, and uh, you know, it's funny that
- 2:16Speaker 1: we're on the phone because you know, when you when
- 2:18Speaker 1: you're school for seven years, you can't get to meet everybody. College.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Car was at the college when I was at college
- 2:23Speaker 1: and University of Houston. We both went the University Houston
- 2:25Speaker 1: well and also congratulations on university used to repeating as
- 2:29Speaker 1: track and field tampion for the men's team. Right, well,
- 2:32Speaker 1: yet we we treated we we um double double. We
- 2:35Speaker 1: won't indoor it outdoor the last two years and um,
- 2:38Speaker 1: we're really excited. The guys really stepped up and uh
- 2:41Speaker 1: they they their whole ideas that they still like the championship,
- 2:44Speaker 1: the conference championship is there to protect. It's like, no,
- 2:48Speaker 1: this is our no matter what house we're in, we're
- 2:49Speaker 1: gonna protect it. And the guys really did, especially since
- 2:52Speaker 1: we were at home, they were to protected this house.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Now now they wanted into and a facility named after
- 2:57Speaker 1: you to call Lewis facility, right, yeah, And it's kind
- 3:00Speaker 1: of it's kind of weird when you're looking at it
- 3:02Speaker 1: running up to it. Um, everybody in the conference was like, Okay,
- 3:05Speaker 1: he's sitting there coaching. They have the best team in
- 3:07Speaker 1: the conference. And then it's a Leroy Barrel who's the
- 3:10Speaker 1: head coach scoreboard and the Tom Toles track at the
- 3:13Speaker 1: car Lewis Complex. It was like, these guys are like,
- 3:16Speaker 1: what are we doing here? We was just handed over.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I mean it's like a bus doll of walking into
- 3:21Speaker 1: Now he's the head coach as a track team. Not
- 3:24Speaker 1: called you look like you was there? Great? And when's
- 3:28Speaker 1: the championship now? Le roy Le? Well, you know what
- 3:35Speaker 1: I tell you? People ask me, you know, how do
- 3:38Speaker 1: I keep my fitness and I just tell them I've
- 3:40Speaker 1: been hungry since nine to keep it simple. Yeah, it's
- 3:44Speaker 1: it's it's it's a it's a tough challenge, but it's
- 3:47Speaker 1: something I want to do. You know. My thing is that, Um,
- 3:50Speaker 1: I go around the world. I speak. I just just
- 3:52Speaker 1: two weeks ago, I was in Saudi Arabia doing a
- 3:54Speaker 1: conference and and I want to make sure when I
- 3:56Speaker 1: go places people remember, you know people when I walk
- 3:59Speaker 1: into a room, I want people to kind of go back.
- 4:01Speaker 1: And my thought is always, um, whether it's our times
- 4:04Speaker 1: or the racist It's kind of like an old song
- 4:07Speaker 1: and everyone knows when that song comes on, it takes
- 4:10Speaker 1: you back to that moment. And so if I can
- 4:13Speaker 1: keep the same look and the feeling and the same
- 4:15Speaker 1: energy when I walk into a room where I present myself,
- 4:18Speaker 1: I want people to go back to that moment. I
- 4:20Speaker 1: don't want to to think about it now. I wanted
- 4:21Speaker 1: to say, hey, I remember that time when he was
- 4:23Speaker 1: running down there and we all feel good. Man. I'm
- 4:26Speaker 1: gonna tell you something because I saw him a year ago,
- 4:29Speaker 1: was at a banquet. We said, at the same table together,
- 4:31Speaker 1: and he does look fantastic. And the thing that I
- 4:34Speaker 1: really respect because you know, when you do these interviews,
- 4:36Speaker 1: you have to do a little research. And so I
- 4:38Speaker 1: knew he was from Weirsboro, New Jersey. That's where he
- 4:41Speaker 1: attended high school, and he came down to the University
- 4:43Speaker 1: of Houston. But what I didn't know was really, you
- 4:46Speaker 1: from the South. Oh yeah, yeah. I was born in
- 4:48Speaker 1: Birmingham and my mother was born in Gaston, Alabama. Father Montgomery,
- 4:54Speaker 1: and our whole family was from Alabama. So we I'm
- 4:58Speaker 1: from the South. We we kind of moved to the
- 4:59Speaker 1: north and sixty three. Um, like a lot of people
- 5:02Speaker 1: immigrated north. And I remember my mother telling me, I
- 5:05Speaker 1: found out that my sister was making more teaching than
- 5:08Speaker 1: she was because my parents teachers uh Tuskegee graduates. That's
- 5:12Speaker 1: where they met and m hpc U in the house
- 5:16Speaker 1: and so, um, she found they were making more in
- 5:18Speaker 1: the north. And so you know, they were fighting a
- 5:21Speaker 1: big fight and heavily involved in civil rights down there,
- 5:23Speaker 1: and they just said, you know, we've done our job
- 5:25Speaker 1: and let's just move forward and get a better job,
- 5:27Speaker 1: better thing for our children. I'm gonna I'm gonna say
- 5:30Speaker 1: something now. I don't want you to take this negative
- 5:33Speaker 1: because you're because you're you're superstar in the track and
- 5:35Speaker 1: field world, and man, you sound so engaging. It sounds
- 5:39Speaker 1: like a guy I would walk up to and just
- 5:42Speaker 1: just want to have a conversation. We're on this phone.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Did you get that, DoD You get people because you've
- 5:47Speaker 1: been such you're a global talent and you're superstar that
- 5:50Speaker 1: people see you have perception of a person that you
- 5:53Speaker 1: can't come up to or am I misreading something, No,
- 5:57Speaker 1: you know, it's it's it's a combination. I think people
- 5:58Speaker 1: are automatically think that, um, oh my gosh, you you're known,
- 6:02Speaker 1: so I should stand offish, but you know, my energy
- 6:05Speaker 1: is Look, look, the reality is that I I started
- 6:09Speaker 1: off and I wasn't a great athlete. I was a
- 6:10Speaker 1: late bloomer, um, very late boomer, and it didn't really
- 6:13Speaker 1: happen to the end of high school. And I went
- 6:15Speaker 1: to college and obviously had my success. But but I
- 6:17Speaker 1: wake up every every day thankful. I mean, can you
- 6:20Speaker 1: imagine someone who says I'd love to run one day,
- 6:23Speaker 1: and and then I get up and I run fast,
- 6:25Speaker 1: I jumped far, and I've been able to parlay this
- 6:28Speaker 1: into a life and a career. I wake up thankful.
- 6:31Speaker 1: So even though they're tough times and challenging days, I
- 6:35Speaker 1: only let that go for a minute, though, because I'm
- 6:37Speaker 1: thankful that i could be who I am, Thankful that
- 6:41Speaker 1: I've been given this amazing God given talent, Thankful for
- 6:43Speaker 1: the people around me, Thankful for parents that were wonderful,
- 6:47Speaker 1: Thankful for my father who was a great role model,
- 6:49Speaker 1: and my mother who was who was a great role model.
- 6:52Speaker 1: So I so at the end of the day, I
- 6:53Speaker 1: there's nothing for me to even giving energy off to.
- 6:56Speaker 1: You know, sometimes you can frustrate and tired. But then
- 6:59Speaker 1: I checked myself, you know, and when I get too long,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I go to the mirror and just talk about first
- 7:03Speaker 1: to get it together, you know, call the interesting thing
- 7:07Speaker 1: about reason. I'mill giving you a little history of here
- 7:09Speaker 1: because I want people to remember how great this man was.
- 7:12Speaker 1: He is, I want to say us. I apologize for
- 7:14Speaker 1: saying was is. And also he said something that he
- 7:17Speaker 1: was a late bloomer, which means that he didn't suddenly
- 7:20Speaker 1: just jump out and then jump for Bran two hundred
- 7:24Speaker 1: and one hundred. It was a crap that he has
- 7:25Speaker 1: to learn. And also before we get into the reason
- 7:29Speaker 1: why money making conversations while you're in here, because we're
- 7:32Speaker 1: gonna talk about the perfect, perfect method dot net is
- 7:35Speaker 1: is what made you really focus into the track and
- 7:39Speaker 1: field arena and and and make you blossom into this
- 7:43Speaker 1: special talent that uh that blessed us all on the
- 7:46Speaker 1: on the world stage. Well it really starts. My My
- 7:50Speaker 1: story starts probably a hundred years ago with my grandfather
- 7:53Speaker 1: who supported my mother and my mother went to Tuskeg
- 7:55Speaker 1: Institute with with a scholarship some money to go to
- 8:00Speaker 1: college for track and field, and in those days, you know,
- 8:03Speaker 1: you had to work and work in the field. And
- 8:05Speaker 1: my father, Um, my grandfather said, hey, if you're gonna
- 8:09Speaker 1: be seen and in college wants you, I'll make it.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I'll figure out a way for you to go to college.
- 8:13Speaker 1: And then my father went went to uh, the military,
- 8:17Speaker 1: and then he was able to use the g I
- 8:18Speaker 1: bill and go to college. And that's where it starts.
- 8:20Speaker 1: So I would be remiss if I didn't thank my
- 8:22Speaker 1: grandfather for being having a foresight and my grandmother to
- 8:26Speaker 1: say to allow my mother to go to college. And then, uh,
- 8:28Speaker 1: they they're my coaches. Um. They started a track club
- 8:31Speaker 1: because my mother wanted to track and field for girl
- 8:34Speaker 1: girls did not have track program, so she started for
- 8:37Speaker 1: girl boys going and so I was I was trained
- 8:40Speaker 1: by them, and a lot of people don't know. My
- 8:41Speaker 1: mother made the Olympic team in nineteen fifty two. He
- 8:45Speaker 1: went he Um, it's an amazing story. Rosa Parks was
- 8:48Speaker 1: a good friend of hers and Dr King was a
- 8:50Speaker 1: family friend and they did this. They were involved in
- 8:53Speaker 1: the civil rights movement. My mother even met um Eva
- 8:56Speaker 1: Perone because she went to Argentina down in the early fifties.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I mean, so she's just been all over and just
- 9:02Speaker 1: just an amazing They raised us with that rich history
- 9:06Speaker 1: of being the best that you can be. And then
- 9:09Speaker 1: I watched them as track coaches, as public school teachers, um,
- 9:13Speaker 1: give their lives to the community. And that's why I
- 9:15Speaker 1: was raised so um when they kept telling me my
- 9:18Speaker 1: whole life, when I wasn't really doing well, just just
- 9:22Speaker 1: be the best you can be. So I was learning
- 9:23Speaker 1: the craft in age place. So when my talent, my
- 9:27Speaker 1: body started to grow and catch up with my talent,
- 9:30Speaker 1: then all of a sudden, I had already learned the class.
- 9:32Speaker 1: But they, but they, they really taught me to just
- 9:35Speaker 1: keep going and not to quit, to believe myself even
- 9:38Speaker 1: though you're gonna have tough times, focus on your excellent
- 9:41Speaker 1: and focus on being the best you can be. And
- 9:43Speaker 1: that's what I did. And then when I became successful,
- 9:46Speaker 1: it made it easier to last because I never focused
- 9:49Speaker 1: on winning, always focused on being excellent, being the perfect me.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And that's what kept me going for so long. Let
- 9:56Speaker 1: me tell you so, I've been a fan of Paul
- 9:59Speaker 1: Lewis to track Superstar. Today I'm a fan of car
- 10:02Speaker 1: those demand you know. I love doing this show because people,
- 10:11Speaker 1: as you always give us. We found out things we
- 10:13Speaker 1: didn't know about an individual. And I think it's important
- 10:17Speaker 1: when you pull back the curtain that they are individuals.
- 10:19Speaker 1: That's what money making conversations is about. Because these people
- 10:22Speaker 1: are bringing a product now online training service that he's
- 10:26Speaker 1: providing to anybody who wants to improve their well, well,
- 10:31Speaker 1: they're worth and amateur athletics. Please tell them about the
- 10:34Speaker 1: perfect net perfect method dot net that you've come up with. Well,
- 10:38Speaker 1: the perfect method is it's kind of been over a
- 10:40Speaker 1: number of years and basically it started a few years ago.
- 10:43Speaker 1: As I drive down the street, I started riding my bike,
- 10:45Speaker 1: UM for fitness. I don't run anymore, which kind of
- 10:48Speaker 1: shocks people. But I write my I never read a call,
- 10:52Speaker 1: so guess what's right? Right exactly? When when I run slow?
- 10:57Speaker 1: It's not treaty, so you be you lucky anyway. But
- 11:02Speaker 1: but I see people running and I said, gosh, look
- 11:04Speaker 1: at that person. I wish I could help them run better,
- 11:06Speaker 1: do better. UM. And then I became a college coach
- 11:09Speaker 1: and a lot of the high school kids are coming
- 11:10Speaker 1: to school and and they're missing the fundamental And then
- 11:13Speaker 1: my mother was a specialification teacher. I realized pe is
- 11:16Speaker 1: being pulled out of school, so kids are not getting
- 11:18Speaker 1: the basics they used to get. And and then all
- 11:21Speaker 1: these things which is kind of building inside of me.
- 11:23Speaker 1: And then one day someone approached me and said, hey,
- 11:26Speaker 1: would you do learn by doing running video? And I thought,
- 11:30Speaker 1: wait a minute, that's like so nineties. You know you
- 11:33Speaker 1: don't do the or you know, what do you? How
- 11:35Speaker 1: do you do it? Now? It's real time? You know,
- 11:38Speaker 1: my my um my son was twenty years old and
- 11:40Speaker 1: I see him on the phone all the time. I
- 11:42Speaker 1: see the kid. So I said, why don't we do something?
- 11:45Speaker 1: But we can teach everyone on earth to run better,
- 11:48Speaker 1: but we have to go to them. And then we
- 11:50Speaker 1: came up with the perfect method dot net because it's
- 11:53Speaker 1: okay to want to be perfect, the perfect you. And
- 11:56Speaker 1: so now with this subscription based program with bringing the
- 12:00Speaker 1: best coaches, the best ideas started with my coach coach
- 12:02Speaker 1: to laughing people and anyone that has ideas that can
- 12:06Speaker 1: that can bring it in. Um it's in real time
- 12:08Speaker 1: for your computer, your tablet or your phone, so it's
- 12:11Speaker 1: with you all the time. You know, when I went
- 12:13Speaker 1: when I was growing up and I don't had to
- 12:15Speaker 1: learn something, Um, I had to go to encyclopedias and
- 12:19Speaker 1: look it up and read through it. And then when
- 12:21Speaker 1: I was in college micro fish. Now I'm aging myself.
- 12:25Speaker 1: But now the history of the world is in everyone's palm,
- 12:29Speaker 1: So why can't we get put this information in the
- 12:32Speaker 1: palm of their hands. Okay, call, we set the stage up,
- 12:35Speaker 1: about to go to break. So coming back, we're gonna
- 12:38Speaker 1: talk more about the perfect method, how you can get
- 12:40Speaker 1: engaged in the perfect method he just told you for
- 12:43Speaker 1: everyday people. For more importantly, if you got a sun
- 12:46Speaker 1: or anybody trying to understand the dynamics of running, then
- 12:50Speaker 1: this is a program for you. We were right back
- 12:52Speaker 1: with Carl Lewis on the pall, my man Olympic tapping
- 12:55Speaker 1: to make conversation to be right back. Hey brother, I
- 12:57Speaker 1: hope you have to get that call. Can I tell
- 12:59Speaker 1: you this, man? Yea, let's not make this the last
- 13:01Speaker 1: cause that all right with you? Oh? Absolutely? I'm always
- 13:04Speaker 1: available because the thing about it is that when I
- 13:07Speaker 1: when I invite people into my show, it's a little
- 13:10Speaker 1: bit different than most shows they do because I'm more engaging.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Bus I don't play no music, so they can just
- 13:16Speaker 1: call we gotta go to the song called Me right back.
- 13:19Speaker 1: You know, so call he's gonna talk about minutes with
- 13:21Speaker 1: me because what he has something to say. And that's
- 13:24Speaker 1: where you pull back the layers. You find out this
- 13:26Speaker 1: guy is just like me, and I want people to
- 13:28Speaker 1: understand that he doesn't have to do this. He is
- 13:32Speaker 1: all this information stored up and he's telling you, guess what, Yes,
- 13:38Speaker 1: I want all these medals. Yes, but you can be
- 13:41Speaker 1: special too that if you learn how to do the
- 13:44Speaker 1: techniques right. So phill a man a little bit more
- 13:47Speaker 1: on the perfect net perfect method dot net. Well, you know,
- 13:51Speaker 1: if you look at it, let's just look, let's just
- 13:54Speaker 1: look at it, feel it back. Like you're saying more
- 13:56Speaker 1: so even deeper than just sports, um just s if
- 13:59Speaker 1: you're I K runner, you just run casual. This is
- 14:02Speaker 1: about This is about family. What a family can get
- 14:05Speaker 1: together and learn how to run better. Because you know,
- 14:07Speaker 1: the vast majority of people that are going to use
- 14:08Speaker 1: the program are not going to be sports or athletes.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Because we have millions of casual runners that run today
- 14:16Speaker 1: in five case ten cave marathons all around the world.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Well guess what if they all learn how to run better, run,
- 14:22Speaker 1: they would run a faster time. I mean think about
- 14:25Speaker 1: the math teacher that that's a track coach, because there's
- 14:28Speaker 1: no pe coach that can take that role, or the
- 14:32Speaker 1: or the like I said, or the parents. But but
- 14:34Speaker 1: what it is is it's it really comes down to
- 14:36Speaker 1: understanding how to do the basis fundamentals. And so the
- 14:39Speaker 1: perfect method teaches you to basic fundamentals. And as we
- 14:42Speaker 1: all know, running is the fundamental to almost every sport.
- 14:45Speaker 1: So we we're we're running and that's the basis, but
- 14:48Speaker 1: we're gonna be branching out and adding components in all
- 14:51Speaker 1: kind of sports already talking about uh different sports, even cycling,
- 14:55Speaker 1: because you know what, we're triathlons or volleyball or baseball,
- 14:59Speaker 1: all these things come in. And I think the biggest
- 15:01Speaker 1: thing is that we have to teach people there is
- 15:03Speaker 1: a correct way to run. There's one fundamental correct way.
- 15:06Speaker 1: It doesn't matter how tall are short, um you are,
- 15:10Speaker 1: There's there's a way to run. And everyone can run faster.
- 15:13Speaker 1: It's just that everyone can't be fast, but everyone can
- 15:17Speaker 1: run faster. And well, you know that's key because I'm
- 15:21Speaker 1: gonna can't run fast category, well you know what I'm
- 15:25Speaker 1: I'm definitely in the run faster than I could category
- 15:29Speaker 1: now because not as fast as I could before. They
- 15:31Speaker 1: look good. We got the picture showing up you on
- 15:33Speaker 1: this three man. You look like you can still sprint
- 15:36Speaker 1: up hard. You know what. I here's the thing I
- 15:39Speaker 1: tell people all the time, I just have to look
- 15:41Speaker 1: because you think I can do it anyway. Look good,
- 15:46Speaker 1: just just look good. You just look good sprinting that
- 15:48Speaker 1: right right? Good good. Let's know, abou a partnership that
- 15:51Speaker 1: you have with the Amateur Athletic Union. Well, we have
- 15:55Speaker 1: a partnership with the a AU Amage Athletic Union, and
- 15:57Speaker 1: it's it's exciting for me. Number one, mother ran for
- 16:01Speaker 1: the AU back in the forties and fifties and that's
- 16:04Speaker 1: what that's what it was. It was only the AU
- 16:06Speaker 1: and then in the early seventies and through the nineteen
- 16:09Speaker 1: seventies that's what I ran. I ran a you all
- 16:11Speaker 1: the way through the national eighties groups starting at nine
- 16:13Speaker 1: years old. And for us to come back and have
- 16:15Speaker 1: a partnership where we can teach these kids, um how
- 16:20Speaker 1: to run the best they can or how to move
- 16:22Speaker 1: and multiple sports is amazing. You know when I was
- 16:25Speaker 1: when I was a kid, um, I met John Carlos
- 16:28Speaker 1: because John Carlos tried out for the Thirdelphi Eagles and
- 16:31Speaker 1: he was in the area and he had a home
- 16:34Speaker 1: in the area where I used to wear the living
- 16:35Speaker 1: grown New jerseys. Right so he Um, my mother is
- 16:39Speaker 1: to introduced me to John Carlos. My father introduced me
- 16:42Speaker 1: to Jeff the Owens. Um. I had these amazing opportunities
- 16:46Speaker 1: to meet these just larger than like people that inspired
- 16:50Speaker 1: me and so here I here we are. But that
- 16:52Speaker 1: had I had to do that. I had to go
- 16:54Speaker 1: meet them and touched their hand and see them and
- 16:56Speaker 1: then go back and and go to a dictionary and
- 16:58Speaker 1: look up their story. Well, nowadays we can bring all
- 17:01Speaker 1: of this and right to everyone's phone, so so I
- 17:05Speaker 1: can talk to all these kids and give them the advice.
- 17:08Speaker 1: You know, we have webinars, we have blogs. Uh, we
- 17:12Speaker 1: do uh anything. And and the biggest thing about the
- 17:15Speaker 1: Perfect Method, it's two way. You know. I have a
- 17:17Speaker 1: team called Perfect Method post Collegiate and everyone has a story.
- 17:22Speaker 1: You know. I have an athlete when I coach at
- 17:24Speaker 1: the University of Houston, when he came in, he did
- 17:27Speaker 1: a blog. His name is was Shaan Collins. He's running.
- 17:29Speaker 1: He's one of the hottest sprayers in the world right now,
- 17:31Speaker 1: and and he is. He gave a blog about really
- 17:35Speaker 1: talking about buying in about a young athlete who needs
- 17:39Speaker 1: to just you know, sometimes there's a reason why you
- 17:42Speaker 1: have two ears and one mouth because you listen and
- 17:45Speaker 1: believe you know, you can be afraid to try something different,
- 17:48Speaker 1: but but you can't. You can't shouldn't be afraid, uh
- 17:51Speaker 1: to put yourself out there. And and a lot of
- 17:53Speaker 1: times that it doesn't work because people are like, oh,
- 17:56Speaker 1: what if it doesn't happen, what if I can't do it? Well,
- 17:59Speaker 1: if you're that but you're not gonna be successful, you
- 18:01Speaker 1: have to try. We all know. And you're talking about business,
- 18:04Speaker 1: um no one, no business comes out and someone just says, oh,
- 18:09Speaker 1: here's a great idea. I just started the first time.
- 18:12Speaker 1: It doesn't work that way. But even inventors and everyone
- 18:15Speaker 1: I tell you, they failed probably more times ten times
- 18:19Speaker 1: more than they ever succeeded. It's the person that is
- 18:22Speaker 1: willing to persevere and keep trying a new idea or
- 18:25Speaker 1: coming bright with something else and and staying at it.
- 18:27Speaker 1: And if you have to raise more money to start again,
- 18:29Speaker 1: you do that. That's really what the perfect method is
- 18:31Speaker 1: that it's about It's about saying it's okay to try
- 18:34Speaker 1: to be perfect, but and just keep going again. Get
- 18:37Speaker 1: all the information. And you know what, one thing I
- 18:40Speaker 1: tell people, if you think what you're doing is incorrect,
- 18:43Speaker 1: you can help me just as much as a people
- 18:45Speaker 1: that know it, because you know what, there may be
- 18:47Speaker 1: someone else that's doing an incorrect like you, and they'll
- 18:50Speaker 1: search your idea and then we could guide into the
- 18:52Speaker 1: correct way as well. Call Now, there was three key
- 18:56Speaker 1: areas that I was doing my little you know, I'm
- 18:58Speaker 1: a research act. I got no I'm doing. Let's talk
- 19:01Speaker 1: about physical readiness including condition, exercise, and nutrition. Also technical
- 19:06Speaker 1: skills to compete at their best, and mental preparations. I
- 19:09Speaker 1: think we were talking to a couple of things there.
- 19:12Speaker 1: We talked about everyday people, but we also talking about
- 19:15Speaker 1: trained athletes. Correct, am I right? Let's talk about the
- 19:18Speaker 1: mental preparation for the trained athlete. Well, I think the
- 19:24Speaker 1: biggest thing is that UM in sports or in anything,
- 19:29Speaker 1: I think people are too emotional UM and the mental preparation.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Everyone's emotion about it and they get psyched up and
- 19:36Speaker 1: everything else. Well, you know, psyching up doesn't win races.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Focus does, Precision does and and the mental preparation is
- 19:43Speaker 1: just allowing you to channel that energy. You know. I
- 19:47Speaker 1: when when I used to go to competition, I never
- 19:50Speaker 1: went there trying to win the race. I went there
- 19:53Speaker 1: trying to perform something that I could do. I had
- 19:56Speaker 1: no control of the gold medal, but I control about performing.
- 20:00Speaker 1: So if if I if I go in and I
- 20:02Speaker 1: knew a performance had to be, let's say nine nine
- 20:04Speaker 1: zero and a hundred, we win it. I focused on
- 20:07Speaker 1: the nine nine zero, and so every single day was
- 20:10Speaker 1: can you how do you run nine nine zero? Instead
- 20:12Speaker 1: of saying I hope I win the gold medal, and
- 20:15Speaker 1: and then sometimes that works. Now it's for the funny
- 20:18Speaker 1: thing about that nine times, Um, I was able to
- 20:21Speaker 1: win gold medals. You mentioned that earlier, and I lost
- 20:23Speaker 1: a silver medal in Soul, Korea. Well, the interesting thing
- 20:26Speaker 1: about it is I went into Soul saying, UM, going
- 20:29Speaker 1: for four events, and I said, you know what if
- 20:31Speaker 1: I were in nineteen eight zero, I can win this
- 20:33Speaker 1: two hundred meters. Well guess what, Um, the guy that
- 20:37Speaker 1: won it ran nineteen seven five, but I ran nineteen
- 20:40Speaker 1: seven nine. So I walked away saying I didn't win
- 20:44Speaker 1: this gold medal. But I did what I came to.
- 20:46Speaker 1: This guy had a tremendous uh personal best. He ran
- 20:50Speaker 1: the race of his life. Rand phenomenal. But sometimes you
- 20:53Speaker 1: can't beat that. But I walked away with my head high.
- 20:56Speaker 1: We did a lap together because I did what I
- 20:58Speaker 1: came to do. Focus on what you control on. That's
- 21:01Speaker 1: the thing about the mental preparation. Prepare yourself. You know,
- 21:04Speaker 1: I see a lot of kids now with earphones and
- 21:06Speaker 1: everything in their power songs, and I gotta slap myself up,
- 21:09Speaker 1: and I tell them, you know, how you psyche yourself up.
- 21:11Speaker 1: The way you're ready on Saturday is you know, you
- 21:15Speaker 1: wouldn't go to a test and not study, and then
- 21:17Speaker 1: all of a sudden I go Saturday and say, oh
- 21:19Speaker 1: I need my my music on. So you actually sit
- 21:21Speaker 1: down and you study and you prepare. So that's the
- 21:24Speaker 1: mental preparation and and and helping you manage how do
- 21:27Speaker 1: you prepare to be your best that day to make
- 21:31Speaker 1: do something that makes you proud of what you've accomplished. Now,
- 21:34Speaker 1: this is the part that don't don't want to hear
- 21:37Speaker 1: the nutrition Paul, the diet. See I'm a sweet potato
- 21:43Speaker 1: pie guy, peach cobbler guy. So I'm that's why I'm saying,
- 21:47Speaker 1: that's why I'm still running slow. But let's talk about
- 21:49Speaker 1: the nutrition aspect of what you get when you go
- 21:52Speaker 1: to the Perfect Method dot net. Well, first of all,
- 21:55Speaker 1: they say you already you eat, and the reality is
- 22:01Speaker 1: that it starts with moderation. I mean, you don't have
- 22:04Speaker 1: to eliminate everything. But the Perfect Method gives you a
- 22:06Speaker 1: guidance on what to eat. You can also check, um,
- 22:10Speaker 1: check your body to see what you're missing, maybe to nutrition,
- 22:15Speaker 1: mineral things like that that you're missing that could help
- 22:17Speaker 1: you metabolize better. But there but when it really breaks
- 22:20Speaker 1: down to it, um, anyone can out eat exercise. So
- 22:26Speaker 1: it's not just about your diet. Your diet is a
- 22:28Speaker 1: important component of it. But um, but you have to
- 22:31Speaker 1: confine that with your exer because if you want to
- 22:35Speaker 1: if you want to keep yourself in good shape. But
- 22:38Speaker 1: that's just anything, you know. When I when I talk
- 22:40Speaker 1: to athletes, you have to give up something to be successful. Um,
- 22:45Speaker 1: it's just just the way in life. I mean successful
- 22:47Speaker 1: people they say, oh my goodness, gracious, you don't do this.
- 22:50Speaker 1: You weren't there. You weren't there. Well, I was trying
- 22:52Speaker 1: to be successful you know, I'm fifty five years old,
- 22:55Speaker 1: and in my twenties I worked really hard. I traveled
- 22:57Speaker 1: the world. I didn't party when we were on the
- 22:59Speaker 1: road for competitions. I stayed in my room. Um uh.
- 23:04Speaker 1: In high school, like I went to my prom two
- 23:06Speaker 1: hours late, I didn't go into school crypt. I missed
- 23:09Speaker 1: all the parties. But you know what I tell people now,
- 23:11Speaker 1: I give them. It's just you have to give something
- 23:17Speaker 1: to get something. Call. I want to thank you man
- 23:22Speaker 1: for calling. Man. I'm a fan brother, and you you
- 23:28Speaker 1: call me, I'll come on any time. I love it
- 23:30Speaker 1: and great talk to you again. And uh anytime you
- 23:34Speaker 1: called me, I'm gonna SKay perfect method dot net. Also,
- 23:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna chop this up and I'm gonna circulate this
- 23:40Speaker 1: interview on my social media. Okay call yes and I
