- 2:10Speaker 1: is on the phone. I'm so happy I saw HBO special. Uh.
- 2:14Speaker 1: She is a Nigerian American actress, comedian, and writer. Her
- 2:18Speaker 1: projects includes starring as Molly on HBO's critical acclaimed comedy
- 2:23Speaker 1: series Insecure. Her first one hour stand up comedy special
- 2:27Speaker 1: for HBO, Mama Made It. It is also available on
- 2:31Speaker 1: HBO Now, HBO Go, HBO on Demand, HBO every or
- 2:35Speaker 1: anything has HBO on it. She's on it Okay. She
- 2:38Speaker 1: is co hosting her podcast and the upcoming faith based book.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I want to talk to her about this coming out
- 2:44Speaker 1: in One Bamboo Zoo by Jesus Hi. God tricked me
- 2:48Speaker 1: into the life of my dreams. Please work on the
- 2:51Speaker 1: money making conversations, my girl, Yvonne or Gy, what's going on? Well?
- 2:57Speaker 1: First of all, First of all, now one watching the special,
- 3:00Speaker 1: I'm going I see a rock star. I see Beyonce,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I see Kelly Roland coming out there, just bouncing on
- 3:06Speaker 1: the stage. Now, I'm telling you something. I'm a former
- 3:09Speaker 1: stand up comic. I don't want to claim it because
- 3:10Speaker 1: I've been on stage in many years, but you came
- 3:12Speaker 1: out lit, You came out and brought the heat at
- 3:15Speaker 1: the beginning of your stand up. Is that how all
- 3:17Speaker 1: your sets or you just made it special for that
- 3:19Speaker 1: for the HBO special. Oh no, that's I'm high. I
- 3:23Speaker 1: told I told h I said, I'm gonna give you
- 3:25Speaker 1: part documentary, part music video, part comedy special. They were
- 3:30Speaker 1: like what. I was like, this rock with me on this,
- 3:32Speaker 1: rock with me on this And that's why I really,
- 3:34Speaker 1: you know, really wanted Chris Robinson to direct my special
- 3:38Speaker 1: because he you know, Chris Robinson, He's done any music
- 3:43Speaker 1: video do you think of that was bombed Chris robinsons
- 3:46Speaker 1: while behind it and some ways people for want and
- 3:48Speaker 1: so I was like, and he's also a hometown he
- 3:50Speaker 1: wrote um um and so uh he goes from d
- 3:55Speaker 1: NBA stage when I was like, what home down he
- 3:57Speaker 1: goes from the d m V um But yeah, no,
- 4:00Speaker 1: on my shows, the hype like I I'm one of
- 4:02Speaker 1: those times that come off with a lot of energy
- 4:04Speaker 1: and a lot of the off time like offer it
- 4:08Speaker 1: because I think they just texts the phone. I feel
- 4:09Speaker 1: like if I feel like if the audience was having
- 4:11Speaker 1: a good time, I mean they're gonna have a good
- 4:13Speaker 1: time with the jokes. Blade you get them like we
- 4:17Speaker 1: could guard down, Like I want to be happy up
- 4:20Speaker 1: here and I want you to be happy over there.
- 4:22Speaker 1: So if we all on the same thing at the
- 4:25Speaker 1: let's rock, I think that, Yeah, you do that okay
- 4:29Speaker 1: because I'm will tell you this because I'll see the
- 4:31Speaker 1: character and insecure your lawyer. You you know, you really
- 4:36Speaker 1: don't show that type of energy on this on this
- 4:38Speaker 1: series that you become famous for. And so when you
- 4:41Speaker 1: came out on the stage like that and you know
- 4:42Speaker 1: you're looking find it you was tall, statue was have
- 4:46Speaker 1: right and everything he was rocking and and everything is
- 4:48Speaker 1: running from side to side of the stage. That was
- 4:50Speaker 1: a positive play on my energy sitting at the house.
- 4:54Speaker 1: So I know it. I know it played big in
- 4:56Speaker 1: that theater, Howard Theater in d C. Oh solutely absolutely.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I mean the camera pans to the audience and they
- 5:04Speaker 1: were like I had I had the artist mid Low,
- 5:09Speaker 1: So that that was an original track, creative specifically for
- 5:11Speaker 1: the trailer and the artist mid Low. She did her
- 5:15Speaker 1: sting on that on on that track, and so it
- 5:18Speaker 1: was like to be able to give back the time
- 5:21Speaker 1: and the space for it to breed, for it to
- 5:24Speaker 1: be like, oh Mama, we made it, you know, and
- 5:27Speaker 1: and just everyone not knowing what to look back and
- 5:29Speaker 1: it's like okamanthas, okay, what we do? You know. It
- 5:34Speaker 1: wasn't just like an entrance song. It was like, no,
- 5:36Speaker 1: we're making an entrance. You made an interest. You made
- 5:39Speaker 1: a not Leagos, Nigeria. You know, we cut, we do
- 5:43Speaker 1: interplay on the inserted in the whole process. And fell
- 5:47Speaker 1: in love with your mom. I know she's taken care of.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I know what. She's still there. You know because when
- 5:51Speaker 1: you when you brought the groceries in, I would tell
- 5:53Speaker 1: you something. When you brought the cinema raising bagels, I
- 5:56Speaker 1: believe in then the cinema bread, I would that's my
- 6:00Speaker 1: girl right there. See, that's how I eat. I reached.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I I love cinnamon toasts with the little raisins in it,
- 6:06Speaker 1: and I love the cinemaon episode. So when you when
- 6:08Speaker 1: you brought that in, me and her were on the
- 6:10Speaker 1: same page. We could eat breakfast together every day of
- 6:12Speaker 1: the week. And I said, but it was just a
- 6:14Speaker 1: really really natural atmosphere. Did you created you just want
- 6:17Speaker 1: to show people where you came from and I also
- 6:19Speaker 1: going back and showing everybody, you know, you really did
- 6:22Speaker 1: make it, even oh, I'll create that. I'm in. I'm
- 6:28Speaker 1: in the prophet of continuing to make it. I made
- 6:31Speaker 1: it this far, but there is there's far more to go.
- 6:35Speaker 1: How about that? But I think that's funny because that
- 6:38Speaker 1: was one of those things that I can even right.
- 6:40Speaker 1: You can't even right. I'm giving all these things and
- 6:43Speaker 1: she still hung up on one thing that I did
- 6:45Speaker 1: not deliver. And I'm like, luck, But you know the
- 6:49Speaker 1: thing about when I said you made it? You know,
- 6:51Speaker 1: I come from the hood. You know, six sisters, two brothers,
- 6:54Speaker 1: father was a truck driver, mom graduated from high school
- 6:57Speaker 1: and uh and everywhere you know, you have gold. So
- 7:00Speaker 1: I could tell you from your from watching your career,
- 7:02Speaker 1: watching the special, your goal or in it, and you
- 7:04Speaker 1: also are blessed by the opportunities that have been received
- 7:08Speaker 1: by you, and so you at each point. I feel
- 7:11Speaker 1: that when you said, when I said you've made it,
- 7:13Speaker 1: this is like winning the super Bowl, you want to
- 7:15Speaker 1: win another super Bowl, you know, but You're gonna tell
- 7:18Speaker 1: everybody I wanted this super Bowl. And I felt that
- 7:20Speaker 1: that's what they're special. When I was watching it, watching
- 7:23Speaker 1: you return home and legos was it was it was.
- 7:26Speaker 1: It was a testament to saying, look you can do it.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I'm doing it, okay, and I'm gonna come here and
- 7:31Speaker 1: show you. HBO is gonna follow me. I'm bringing my
- 7:34Speaker 1: boy Chris with me. He gonna direct me, and we're
- 7:36Speaker 1: gonna throw down at Howard Theater and I'm gonna show
- 7:38Speaker 1: you where I came from, to show you that I
- 7:40Speaker 1: came from over here. My family is still living. They
- 7:43Speaker 1: get to share your brother, get to share in your love,
- 7:46Speaker 1: and get to tell less story. That's what I'm saying
- 7:48Speaker 1: when I say you made it, because believe me, I
- 7:51Speaker 1: know your journey to greatness. It's still it's still at
- 7:54Speaker 1: the top of the iceberg. Okay. I appreciate that, man,
- 7:59Speaker 1: I'm like you. I appreciate you lessing me in seeking
- 8:04Speaker 1: good life over my life now obviously but obviously, well,
- 8:09Speaker 1: you know the thing about it is that we know.
- 8:11Speaker 1: The thing about it is that as as a female
- 8:13Speaker 1: stand up comedian, you know, I know as a stand
- 8:15Speaker 1: up it's tough for African American stand up. Before death
- 8:18Speaker 1: Comedy Jam came along, I was doing jokes, you know,
- 8:21Speaker 1: Jared Fine Fair Dnnis Leary, Sam Kenniston and all that.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Then Death Comedy Jam came out and it opened a
- 8:26Speaker 1: whole new world for black comedy to come to the mainstream,
- 8:30Speaker 1: start feeling the venue, start feeling the comedy clubs. And
- 8:33Speaker 1: then being a female comedian, you know, there's a different
- 8:36Speaker 1: path to that. Talk about your life as a female
- 8:39Speaker 1: stand up coming up. I know you opened for Chris Rock,
- 8:42Speaker 1: but there's a journey and a path that you have
- 8:44Speaker 1: to deal with being a female stand up, and especially
- 8:46Speaker 1: being a black female stand up. Can you talk about
- 8:48Speaker 1: that we talk about the path. No, no, I'm just
- 8:54Speaker 1: talking about the path you take as a stand up.
- 8:56Speaker 1: But of course being a black female stand up, that's
- 8:58Speaker 1: a different journey too because of the fact that it's
- 9:00Speaker 1: a male dominated industry. For sure. I mean, and I think,
- 9:04Speaker 1: I think, I think the fact that God made me
- 9:08Speaker 1: night hearing, which is you you got to have like
- 9:10Speaker 1: a thick a thick skin, boy, you got to do that.
- 9:13Speaker 1: And then you're in a rough We even say good morning, rough,
- 9:17Speaker 1: good morning, Why are you jealous? Why do you why
- 9:19Speaker 1: are you gonna? Says so we we kind of have
- 9:23Speaker 1: that stuff demeanor, and then you know, I grew up
- 9:25Speaker 1: with three older brothers. Dad for god that I was
- 9:27Speaker 1: a girl, like they said that absolutely, So I think
- 9:33Speaker 1: that was all preparation. You know. Sometimes you think it
- 9:36Speaker 1: like why am I in this family? But then it's like, oh,
- 9:38Speaker 1: you know what, I had to be in the family,
- 9:40Speaker 1: you know, to learn these things because y'all was gonna
- 9:42Speaker 1: open up the door for me to be in this
- 9:44Speaker 1: profession that you know is male dominated. But I come
- 9:47Speaker 1: from the heavily patriarchical society, so this this is no
- 9:51Speaker 1: biggie you know. I know when I started people, I
- 9:54Speaker 1: would you know, I I fashion was always big for me.
- 9:56Speaker 1: So I was like, even though I'm gonna be on stage,
- 10:00Speaker 1: I'm I'm a look amazing because I would always say
- 10:02Speaker 1: my jokes bomb or my outfit's gonna be bombed, you
- 10:05Speaker 1: know what I mean, like because they're gonna like something
- 10:07Speaker 1: about me. And so I always made sure to like
- 10:10Speaker 1: look presentable, um in that way. And I remember going
- 10:15Speaker 1: to comedy clubs and they would be like, oh you
- 10:16Speaker 1: are you were to do? Are you here the thing?
- 10:19Speaker 1: And I'd be like at the comedy club and you know,
- 10:22Speaker 1: it was just like, well, what do you here to do?
- 10:24Speaker 1: Like you because almost like you're too cute, you're too pretty,
- 10:27Speaker 1: could be funny. And I was like, well, y'all about
- 10:30Speaker 1: to get you jokes, then I'm sorry to disappoint you, brother,
- 10:33Speaker 1: and you know, and it was kind of like, wait,
- 10:36Speaker 1: so for a black female comic, you can either be
- 10:39Speaker 1: overweight and funny and you know because we know because
- 10:42Speaker 1: we know what that looks like. Or you know, you
- 10:45Speaker 1: can be you know, like hor than funny but like intelligence,
- 10:50Speaker 1: flim pretty fashionable and you got jokes we don't know.
- 10:56Speaker 1: And I was like, well, I don't I don't subscribe
- 10:59Speaker 1: to that, and I don't believe that. And that's that's
- 11:04Speaker 1: what you had to stay in his special because it's
- 11:07Speaker 1: finally here, the season of celebration, and no matter how
- 11:11Speaker 1: you celebrate with family and friends, whether you're preparing for

- 13:03Speaker 1: Dot ai. You know, I'm not gonna tell people the jokes.
- 13:06Speaker 1: I'm not gonna tell people your routine. I'm gonna tell
- 13:08Speaker 1: people this. You came out on the stage lit if
- 13:11Speaker 1: you do not miss the opening, because she's on fire
- 13:14Speaker 1: on the opening and she carries that fire into her humor.
- 13:17Speaker 1: You know, like a lot of comments to do that.
- 13:19Speaker 1: They come out and stay with a lot of energy
- 13:20Speaker 1: and in the show kind of like every five minutes
- 13:23Speaker 1: gets less and less funny. That is not happening here, Okay,
- 13:27Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about. They come out there
- 13:28Speaker 1: and be jumping around and be clapping in everything, and
- 13:32Speaker 1: crowd be tired. They tidy worked the crowd out. They
- 13:34Speaker 1: be tired, and you come out there. And the thing
- 13:37Speaker 1: about it is me, as a former stand up I
- 13:39Speaker 1: always look at people that go if they do material
- 13:42Speaker 1: that go You know, I never thought of that. I
- 13:44Speaker 1: would never have thought of that joke. You do a
- 13:46Speaker 1: lot of that. You're coming. You're very observational, You're very
- 13:49Speaker 1: socially gifted and understanding how you can just always tell
- 13:53Speaker 1: people about jokes. You know, every good joke is a
- 13:56Speaker 1: hard right or hard left. You know, it throws you
- 13:58Speaker 1: for a curve, and you you do a very good
- 14:00Speaker 1: job of that and honing that skill. And so when
- 14:03Speaker 1: you when you talk about your stand up, efore what
- 14:07Speaker 1: journey you're trying to tell people when your own stage?
- 14:10Speaker 1: Are you trying to relate to any it to the women?
- 14:12Speaker 1: Are you trying to make a statement to the guys?
- 14:14Speaker 1: Are you just trying to be funny? Well, I appreciate that,
- 14:18Speaker 1: you know. I think I think humor for me in
- 14:21Speaker 1: my life. I think there's a place and entertainment to
- 14:25Speaker 1: uh for humor and education, right, I think you know,
- 14:30Speaker 1: or or to entertain and to educate, I should say,
- 14:33Speaker 1: um and content. And you know, I know it's like
- 14:36Speaker 1: you don't know a little comedy show again a lecture,
- 14:38Speaker 1: but it's like, no, comedy is the way where you
- 14:41Speaker 1: learn the most you know in such a digestible form. Right,
- 14:45Speaker 1: every every comedian is teaching you something. You're teaching you
- 14:49Speaker 1: about them. They're teaching you about the way they see
- 14:51Speaker 1: the world. They're teaching you about like aw, you a
- 14:54Speaker 1: problem with to the world. But you didn't know and
- 14:56Speaker 1: so um you know through my jokes and through my humor,
- 15:00Speaker 1: I didn't. Uh. I know that my crowd is heavily female, right,
- 15:07Speaker 1: I know I have the young female population who are
- 15:11Speaker 1: like they hight you know what I'm saying. Somebody or
- 15:15Speaker 1: was Junior uh he I love him so much. He
- 15:19Speaker 1: came to my show in New York and he was like,
- 15:21Speaker 1: first of all, you got a crowd that lays out
- 15:23Speaker 1: their clothes the night before so they get ready. You're
- 15:27Speaker 1: He's like, you you kind of a crowd that they
- 15:30Speaker 1: lay out there closely, like we called theron organ show.
- 15:32Speaker 1: We got look fraid. I was like when God blessed it.
- 15:34Speaker 1: And then he was like, you got the gamely employed crowd.
- 15:38Speaker 1: You got the people who you know, they bought tickets early.
- 15:42Speaker 1: You know That's what I saw im, That's what I saw.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I saw. I saw a contractive crowd. I just throw
- 15:47Speaker 1: in a common the club called hip hop comm and
- 15:49Speaker 1: just stopped and I told everybody. When the good looking
- 15:52Speaker 1: women started showing up to my club, I knew I
- 15:54Speaker 1: was a hit, you know, because because that's you know,
- 15:57Speaker 1: the brand was on fire then, because once they show
- 15:59Speaker 1: up and lay out them club and make an appointment
- 16:01Speaker 1: that they're gonna come here and spend their dollar and
- 16:04Speaker 1: spend two or three hours of day time someplace. That's
- 16:07Speaker 1: what I got. So I was, I was. It was
- 16:08Speaker 1: like a look back on me, going, Wow, she really
- 16:11Speaker 1: is carried a weight of of of a group of
- 16:14Speaker 1: people for for the next ten, fifteen, twenty years. That's
- 16:17Speaker 1: gonna be a growing fan base. But I know, I
- 16:20Speaker 1: just gotta switch gears right quick and congratulate you because
- 16:23Speaker 1: we don't talk about the fact that we are talking
- 16:25Speaker 1: about your HBO special Mama I Made It, which premieres
- 16:28Speaker 1: on HBO June six, but being renewed on Insecure for
- 16:32Speaker 1: another season. Why the season is still going on? Talk
- 16:35Speaker 1: to me about that energy, talk about that love for
- 16:37Speaker 1: the series and the characters that you share the screen
- 16:40Speaker 1: with on that show. Man, I I hit a bet that.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I was, like, this is amazing one the season is
- 16:48Speaker 1: still going on? To me in the middle of a
- 16:50Speaker 1: band Melge like down and NBO believes in the shows
- 16:55Speaker 1: the like Now, I'll kind of that was ever anyone worried?
- 17:00Speaker 1: Never then let outside open up again, y'all go, y'all
- 17:02Speaker 1: gonna going to productive and if at the time we
- 17:05Speaker 1: don't even know what productions are gonna look like, but
- 17:08Speaker 1: it feels like but we we're gonna figure out what
- 17:10Speaker 1: the fiftie don't look like. Um And so I just
- 17:13Speaker 1: thought that was a blessing. I really did. I thought, like, wow,
- 17:16Speaker 1: that was a blessing. And also how they believe in
- 17:20Speaker 1: us as well, um, as a show and as and
- 17:25Speaker 1: and what they know that our show does, the community
- 17:28Speaker 1: of creatives, in the community of fans who are watching
- 17:31Speaker 1: every weekend. So now it's it's great. I look forward
- 17:34Speaker 1: to seeing the stories you get to tell. You know,
- 17:37Speaker 1: efty year in a row. You know, you're an all
- 17:39Speaker 1: romantic this season. You know, we got your ball, you know,
- 17:42Speaker 1: can y'all got town to spend with each other, you know,
- 17:44Speaker 1: but it's a very romantic season for you. This said
- 17:47Speaker 1: this this year, so we gotta definitely carried it over
- 17:49Speaker 1: to the next. Of course, I don't know what's happening
- 17:51Speaker 1: and how that relationships kind of in and I'm not
- 17:53Speaker 1: gonna tell anybody about the relationship. You just need to
- 17:56Speaker 1: watch Insecure. I'm talking to Eon or look here the third,
- 18:00Speaker 1: the fourth quarter. We know this country is gonna be
- 18:01Speaker 1: opened up. We know June six, you have a special
- 18:04Speaker 1: on HBO that's gonna be on fire. I'm telling she's
- 18:07Speaker 1: rocking the stage. She's lit the cross led, she brings
- 18:09Speaker 1: the comedy for one entire hour. They have it to
- 18:11Speaker 1: cuts in it that goes back to her hometown. You
- 18:13Speaker 1: get to see a family, get to see the community
- 18:15Speaker 1: gets here, how she grew up a little bit of
- 18:17Speaker 1: her fan base and Legos Nigeria. My boy Chris Robinson,
- 18:20Speaker 1: I do know him back in the back in two
- 18:23Speaker 1: thousand we shot uh Fitch video together, so I know
- 18:26Speaker 1: the talent that he brings to the table. You went
- 18:28Speaker 1: back to Howard Theater and watching the DC to do it.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Ivan your special girl, And I am not saying you've
- 18:34Speaker 1: made it, but you had to tell your mama that
- 18:37Speaker 1: you did make it when you take this HBO special.
- 18:39Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying. Girl, Yes, yes I did so.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I think she knows it. I think I just need
- 18:47Speaker 1: to keep reminding her like, Mama, no, we made we did,
- 18:50Speaker 1: mom used to be right. Well, you know it. It's
- 18:53Speaker 1: a it's a tender moment in the end of a
- 18:56Speaker 1: special where you know when you got emotional, all comedy aside,
- 19:00Speaker 1: when you're the realization that you was able to call
- 19:02Speaker 1: home and say that and that that was a point
- 19:05Speaker 1: your moment for me because you know, we're on struggle
- 19:07Speaker 1: and we we're trying to define our success sometimes based
- 19:10Speaker 1: on what other people are doing. But but in that
- 19:12Speaker 1: moment that you talk about it in in the individual,
- 19:15Speaker 1: in the video, in the in the end of the
- 19:17Speaker 1: one hour special about calling home, can you before we
- 19:19Speaker 1: wrap up the show, can you just talk about that
- 19:20Speaker 1: for a couple of seconds and and we're signed off
- 19:23Speaker 1: and tell everybody watch your special. June six, I'm talking
- 19:25Speaker 1: to Evonne Orgy to starve and secure the star of
- 19:28Speaker 1: our HBO special, star of the podcast. She has to
- 19:30Speaker 1: do book coming out there when she comes to our
- 19:32Speaker 1: bamboosted by Jesus, how God tricked me into a life
- 19:35Speaker 1: of my dreams that's coming out in one she'd be
- 19:37Speaker 1: back on the show and talk about that. This show
- 19:39Speaker 1: we just talked about how she was just tan the stage,
- 19:42Speaker 1: put it on fire. But on that stage when you're
- 19:44Speaker 1: putting on the fire the end of the special, you
- 19:45Speaker 1: got emotional on me. Evonn talk to me about that.
- 19:49Speaker 1: I did. I did because it was it was a
- 19:51Speaker 1: full circle moment. Man. When I moved to New York,
- 19:55Speaker 1: and you know this as a comic, it was it
- 19:57Speaker 1: was a whole bunch of bring the shows, but I
- 20:00Speaker 1: didn't bring nobody here. I didn't bring nobody needs in
- 20:02Speaker 1: New or by myself. And it was like, well, in
- 20:04Speaker 1: order for you to get stage time, you need five
- 20:06Speaker 1: friends saying full price and a to drink minimal. I'm like, bro,
- 20:10Speaker 1: if I did have friends, I'm about to move all
- 20:11Speaker 1: of them, trying to you know, work out the five
- 20:13Speaker 1: and into material. So it was one of those like
- 20:17Speaker 1: moments of like the rubber about to meet the roads.
- 20:19Speaker 1: And because I'm not Durian and we're so entrepreneurial in
- 20:22Speaker 1: our mindset, and because I'm a woman of faith, I'm
- 20:24Speaker 1: just like all things are possible. Uh. And so there
- 20:28Speaker 1: was an open mic that somebody was giving up. They
- 20:30Speaker 1: were like moving out of town and they were just
- 20:32Speaker 1: like we need somebody to big up with the room.
- 20:34Speaker 1: And it was me and a whole rack of young
- 20:37Speaker 1: male comics and nobody was jumping and after me, I
- 20:42Speaker 1: was doing it. I didn't know nothing about running nobody's room,
- 20:44Speaker 1: but I was like, no, I'll run the road because
- 20:47Speaker 1: the way my mind thought was good. And if I
- 20:50Speaker 1: can't get face timed anywhere else, I'm gonna get at
- 20:53Speaker 1: least one day a week two hours on the stage
- 20:57Speaker 1: was perfecting my and everyone that I'm running and they
- 21:00Speaker 1: just look, I get to meet other comics. I'm in
- 21:02Speaker 1: the community that I'm struggling to get into because they're
- 21:06Speaker 1: gonna want to come to me to get a stop.
- 21:08Speaker 1: So like I'm gonna read the book us Like it
- 21:10Speaker 1: was just it just felt like this is what I'm
- 21:12Speaker 1: gonna do. This just makes the most sense. And it
- 21:14Speaker 1: was one of those opportunities that presented itself not as
- 21:17Speaker 1: a lucrative opportunity by any means, because it cost me
- 21:20Speaker 1: on that show. It cost you to buy an amplifier
- 21:22Speaker 1: and a good mic and learn it like it was
- 21:24Speaker 1: a real world and not just like a stop on
- 21:27Speaker 1: another comment, you know, open mic in order to get
- 21:30Speaker 1: to the next show. So you know, but what came
- 21:33Speaker 1: from that was the name and I called it. My
- 21:35Speaker 1: mom made it. Because at that moment, I was like, man,
- 21:38Speaker 1: I wouldn't it be dope if, like, you know, a
- 21:41Speaker 1: booker for any of these late night you know shows
- 21:45Speaker 1: came by and they could see you and then they
- 21:47Speaker 1: could put you on. I dream, I dreamt big, I
- 21:50Speaker 1: still dream me. I'm like, wouldn't that be dope? If
- 21:52Speaker 1: that's what this room was set up to do? And like,
- 21:55Speaker 1: because who doesn't want to call home to sell their mom?
- 21:57Speaker 1: Like mom made it? Uh? And so that was the hope.
- 22:00Speaker 1: That was the anticipation behind the open night night. And
- 22:03Speaker 1: when it came t to do the special, I was like, Yo,
- 22:06Speaker 1: this is a full circle moment right now, Like I
- 22:08Speaker 1: get I get that, have that dream of me trying
- 22:11Speaker 1: to put other people on, so now me getting put on.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And that's why that's that's why I love choked up
- 22:18Speaker 1: at the end, you know, fire girl, I'm gonna let
- 22:20Speaker 1: you go here. We're up against the Clark. I want
- 22:22Speaker 1: to see the June six is HBO special. I'm talking
