- 2:07Speaker 1: dig me now one and only Steve Harvey Man got
- 2:11Speaker 1: a radio show, borl borl boy. I can't even tell
- 2:16Speaker 1: you man um. I've been doing some thinking and you know,
- 2:22Speaker 1: just coming off vacation, I was really had some time
- 2:26Speaker 1: to sit out and and you know, just recharge myself
- 2:30Speaker 1: and and just think about a lot of things and
- 2:33Speaker 1: and and really spend some time with my wife and
- 2:37Speaker 1: her and I, you know, just recommitted ourselves and and
- 2:42Speaker 1: and just went over a lot of things. Just had
- 2:44Speaker 1: a lot of long talks. You know. Communication is the key,
- 2:49Speaker 1: you know. And I'm a guy and I suffered with
- 2:52Speaker 1: that as to do a lot of guys. I think
- 2:54Speaker 1: a lot of women, uh say that they have a
- 2:57Speaker 1: communication problem with the men. I'm no different. You know,
- 3:00Speaker 1: I can write a book all day, but I still
- 3:04Speaker 1: I am a man. I'm wired a certain way. It's
- 3:07Speaker 1: not making excuses, it's just it's certain things that we
- 3:11Speaker 1: have to pay attention to, especially when it comes to women,
- 3:14Speaker 1: because of the way we're wired. And we were just
- 3:16Speaker 1: sitting out there talking and having some conversations, and one
- 3:20Speaker 1: of the things that I wanted to mention today to
- 3:23Speaker 1: you as one of the principles of success being grateful
- 3:30Speaker 1: at all times. It's difficult to do. Being grateful at
- 3:38Speaker 1: all times. It's very difficult to do. I I find
- 3:43Speaker 1: that to be true with myself. Now there are others
- 3:46Speaker 1: that might be able to do it, but just just
- 3:49Speaker 1: from talking and listening and and and and living and learning,
- 3:53Speaker 1: being grateful at all times is difficult to do. But
- 3:57Speaker 1: it's necessary because us. It's it's it's such an act
- 4:02Speaker 1: of faith in knowing that no matter what's going on,
- 4:07Speaker 1: it's going to be all right. And it's hard to
- 4:10Speaker 1: see that when things are not going in your favor,
- 4:15Speaker 1: when things have turned so dramatically the other way, and
- 4:20Speaker 1: it seems as though you're the only one in the
- 4:23Speaker 1: situation where you're involved with other people, or someone got
- 4:27Speaker 1: an accusation against you falsely, or somebody trying to do
- 4:30Speaker 1: something to you unjustifiably, whatever the case may be. When
- 4:35Speaker 1: it's happening to you, it does appear to you that, oh,
- 4:39Speaker 1: my goodness, man, this is horribly one sided. So it
- 4:45Speaker 1: is difficult. It's hard to do to be grateful at
- 4:48Speaker 1: all times, but it's so necessary and I just I
- 4:53Speaker 1: just want to point out a couple of things to you.
- 4:56Speaker 1: First of all, the difficulty in being grateful in the
- 5:00Speaker 1: hard times is that number one, the present circumstances. Oftentimes
- 5:07Speaker 1: it's just so pressing and so overwhelming that a lot
- 5:11Speaker 1: of your energy is devoted to trying to come up
- 5:14Speaker 1: with the solution for that, or trying to muster the
- 5:17Speaker 1: strength to whether the storm, or trying to just brace
- 5:20Speaker 1: yourself to try to get through it, and in doing that,
- 5:25Speaker 1: you don't It's hard to be grateful. It's hard to
- 5:29Speaker 1: be grateful in pain, and I know it is. But
- 5:33Speaker 1: but here is the trick for me, this is what
- 5:37Speaker 1: I've had to learn how to do, and I I
- 5:41Speaker 1: guess it takes practice to get here. It's not nothing
- 5:44Speaker 1: you can just start doing right away. You got to
- 5:46Speaker 1: practice it in small increments to really get it. What
- 5:49Speaker 1: I've always had to say to myself and what I've
- 5:51Speaker 1: learned to say to myself is this is happening to
- 5:56Speaker 1: me because God is working me through something. This is
- 6:00Speaker 1: happening to me because there's some form of tests that
- 6:04Speaker 1: I have to pass in order to graduate to the
- 6:07Speaker 1: next grade, and that in order to be allowed to
- 6:10Speaker 1: move to the next level. This is happening to me
- 6:15Speaker 1: because there's something I need to purge my life, of
- 6:19Speaker 1: my body, of my spirit, of something's purging in me.
- 6:24Speaker 1: And when you purge something, it's it's painful. You know,
- 6:28Speaker 1: it's like a person getting off drugs. The withdrawal is agonizing.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I've been told and every documentary I've ever watched it
- 6:37Speaker 1: it's an agonizing process to go cold turkey, to withdraw,
- 6:42Speaker 1: to pull away after you've been doing something so long.
- 6:46Speaker 1: And so I know that this process is tough when
- 6:51Speaker 1: you're going through some pain, But when you're purging your system,
- 6:57Speaker 1: when you when you're when you're having to pass a test,
- 7:00Speaker 1: when you're about to make when when you're being made
- 7:04Speaker 1: ready for the next level, that moment right in there,
- 7:08Speaker 1: in realizing that that's what's happening, that's where you find
- 7:12Speaker 1: the gratitude. That's where I found the gratitude. I hope
- 7:16Speaker 1: I'm explaining this correctly. I'm gonna keep trying until I
- 7:19Speaker 1: get it. But that's where you find the gratitude. The
- 7:24Speaker 1: second part of it is is that God has never
- 7:29Speaker 1: left me and all the things I've done, in all
- 7:33Speaker 1: the mistakes I've made, all the lies I've told, all
- 7:38Speaker 1: the situations I've gotten myself into from being greedy and
- 7:42Speaker 1: wanting too much for me at the expense sometimes of
- 7:49Speaker 1: other people, not doing it deliberately or in a vindictive way,
- 7:56Speaker 1: because I've never had that spirit. I'm not a vindictive
- 7:59Speaker 1: or mean person, but sometimes in my life, in wanting
- 8:04Speaker 1: to do what I wanted to do, I didn't totally
- 8:08Speaker 1: weigh out the cause and effect of the other person.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I mean, can't just be real with you with that.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I mean, how many times we had all done that. Look,
- 8:17Speaker 1: don't don't make you a bad person. You know, good
- 8:21Speaker 1: people do bad things all the time. I just happened
- 8:24Speaker 1: to have come to the realization that unknowingly and and
- 8:29Speaker 1: and not and not with malice intent towards a person.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I've I've heard people looking at something I wanted to
- 8:40Speaker 1: do without really looking at what the cause and effect
- 8:44Speaker 1: would be on the other person. So in doing some
- 8:48Speaker 1: of these things, I've created situations for myself. But God,
- 8:52Speaker 1: through his grace and mercy, has allowed me to even
- 8:56Speaker 1: get beyond that. So what I'm saying that God has
- 8:59Speaker 1: never left me in spite of myself. He's always gotten
- 9:03Speaker 1: me through. So that's the other part of it, to
- 9:07Speaker 1: see that no matter what you're going through, you've got
- 9:10Speaker 1: to understand that God has always gotten you through it, now,
- 9:13Speaker 1: hasn't it. Now that may not be the way you
- 9:15Speaker 1: wanted or the way you liked, But guess what, you
- 9:18Speaker 1: can't do wrong and not pay for that. Now that
- 9:21Speaker 1: that's not how this works, that's never going to be
- 9:24Speaker 1: the case. But the great thing about God is he
- 9:26Speaker 1: fires warning shots at us all the time. He gives
- 9:29Speaker 1: us an opportunity to stop. You know, He don't fully
- 9:33Speaker 1: punish us right away every time we do something wrong.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Now does it? You know eventually you're going to get
- 9:39Speaker 1: caught doing whatever it is you're doing you do understand that,
- 9:43Speaker 1: don't you. But the first time, that close call, that
- 9:46Speaker 1: was a warning shot for you to stop. Look, I
- 9:49Speaker 1: know you're not perfect. I know we all sent us
- 9:51Speaker 1: down here, so I know you're gonna make mistakes. One time.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I know you was looking at her when you wasn't
- 9:56Speaker 1: supposed to. I know you said something to him when
- 9:59Speaker 1: you wasn't supposed you. I know you got with her
- 10:01Speaker 1: when you know you wasn't supposed to. And I know
- 10:04Speaker 1: you got with him when you know you wasn't supposed to.
- 10:06Speaker 1: So I'll tell you what I'm gonna do. I'm a
- 10:08Speaker 1: fire warning shot, and maybe you'll slow your roll this time.
- 10:11Speaker 1: But we keep on, don't see. See See that's what happens.
- 10:14Speaker 1: See we just keep on and then the next thing,
- 10:17Speaker 1: you know, we get caught. Now, old Lord, have mercy,
- 10:21Speaker 1: I won't out of this. Yeah, well see you didn't
- 10:23Speaker 1: dug this hole pretty deep, and he gonna get you out.
- 10:27Speaker 1: But there's some things that's got to go down now
- 10:30Speaker 1: because you didn't pay attention to the warning shot. See,
- 10:32Speaker 1: had you stopped the first time, you felt bad about
- 10:35Speaker 1: it and said you wasn't gonna do it no more.
- 10:37Speaker 1: The situation wouldn't be as critical, but because we don't stop,
- 10:40Speaker 1: and we go again. But God always for gils. He
- 10:46Speaker 1: always allows us to get back up again. He always
- 10:50Speaker 1: gives us mercy. He always gives us his grace. He
- 10:55Speaker 1: always does that. I love music. I just take to
- 11:04Speaker 1: it like conductor Water. I love music. Ladies and gentlemen, uh,
- 11:09Speaker 1: I have your attention. Please. Today we are paying tribute

- 11:18Speaker 1: Today we're gonna play her music. Today, we will be
- 11:23Speaker 1: celebrating her life, her legacy, what she was, what she

- 11:35Speaker 1: of sadness here. You know, this is a celebration of

- 28:41Speaker 1: wanted to comments on Aresa Franklin. I have some five
- 28:44Speaker 1: Memories of Earth. In six she had a fund raiser
- 28:49Speaker 1: for Jesse Jackson and I was working working with the
- 28:52Speaker 1: catering company and I was able to go to her
- 28:56Speaker 1: house to help serve the food stuff. It was fantasy
- 29:00Speaker 1: I started two years ago. She was just amazing person.
- 29:05Speaker 1: She asked me some birthday cakes and stuff. It was
- 29:08Speaker 1: really nice. I'm really nice I met today, very testy
- 29:11Speaker 1: Hill is a lot of more and Jesse Jackson. So
- 29:14Speaker 1: that's my five memory of Aretha Franklin. She is the
- 29:18Speaker 1: Queen a soul and always will be the Queen of soul.

- 29:45Speaker 1: at Detroit, and I've always loved Missrea ree and we're
- 29:51Speaker 1: truly going to miss her. Tell us what queen meant
- 29:54Speaker 1: to you? That's one of the best fingers of all
- 29:57Speaker 1: that nobody can imitate her or close to Aretha Franklin.
- 30:01Speaker 1: She reminds me, I lost my grandmother. It will be
- 30:04Speaker 1: fourteen twelve other married and got to be twelve years
- 30:08Speaker 1: um this December, and um she was I right, she
- 30:11Speaker 1: was everything to our family. And it just seems like
- 30:14Speaker 1: certain people are just not supposed to die Katie Penegrams,
- 30:17Speaker 1: Luther's Angel's, Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin. I was raised
- 30:20Speaker 1: on that music. So it's really really sad. Today we're
- 30:23Speaker 1: celebrating the music, the life, and the legacy of the
- 30:27Speaker 1: Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. We're offering our prayers and
- 30:30Speaker 1: our condolences to the entire Franklin family. Steve Harvey Nation,
- 30:34Speaker 1: we are all hurting this morning, but we're going to
- 30:37Speaker 1: celebrate Aretha Franklin, her life and her legacy. As we mentioned,
- 30:41Speaker 1: she was and will always be the Queen of Soul.
- 30:45Speaker 1: All Right, we'll have more of the Steve Harvey Morning
- 30:47Speaker 1: Show right after this. You're listening to the Steve Harvey
- 30:51Speaker 1: Morning Show. Well, today we have truly, truly, truly lost
- 30:58Speaker 1: a great one. Uh. If you're just waking up, we
- 31:01Speaker 1: are saddened to say that the Queen of Soul, Aretha
- 31:05Speaker 1: Franklin UM, has passed away. And Steve, can you just
- 31:10Speaker 1: tell us. We know that you all had a special bond,
- 31:13Speaker 1: So Steve tell us about the time one of the
- 31:15Speaker 1: times you met Aretha Um the n A B A.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I think it was naturally a b jal Association Black journalists.
- 31:25Speaker 1: I think she was performing at one of the events
- 31:30Speaker 1: and uh, we were backed. It was sort of funny
- 31:34Speaker 1: because Aretha needed when she performed. She liked the adda
- 31:37Speaker 1: be off. Oh yeah, and uh it was already a
- 31:45Speaker 1: little warm in the in the black journalists was already hot.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Riva came in there and said, cut whatever air. They
- 31:57Speaker 1: cut that as off brought them siss in the health
- 32:01Speaker 1: started reacting and makeup. They was looking good though them
- 32:05Speaker 1: sisters were strong. They held it together. Came out there
- 32:09Speaker 1: and saying, because this read. As soon as she left,
- 32:13Speaker 1: you've seen the black people trying to cut that because
- 32:18Speaker 1: there was real respectful wreathing. They let your queen, man,
- 32:22Speaker 1: she said. Soon as wreathing got through, saying and saying
- 32:25Speaker 1: her tail off too, thought her messument this woman's voice man,
- 32:30Speaker 1: And as soon as she got through them people trying
- 32:32Speaker 1: to cut that. Man. But she was always kind to me.
- 32:37Speaker 1: She always said beautiful stuff to me. I just love you, Steve.
- 32:41Speaker 1: You're just doing so much. Oh I watch you on
- 32:44Speaker 1: that show Family Few, I'd be sitting up laughing. You know,
- 32:48Speaker 1: just remember stuff like that. I like talking about people
- 32:51Speaker 1: in positive ways, you know, because you know, I mean look,
- 32:55Speaker 1: we're all gonna leave him some sooner, some later. But
- 33:00Speaker 1: we're all pulling up out of here. And I just
- 33:02Speaker 1: think about my terms and my life in terms of
- 33:06Speaker 1: my longevity, man, And you know, I probably I didn't
- 33:10Speaker 1: had more time than I got left, that's for sure.
- 33:13Speaker 1: I'm not gonna live another sixty years. I'm not gonna
- 33:16Speaker 1: be a hundred and twenty. I don't even got to around.
- 33:21Speaker 1: I'm gonna do one on phone. Check out. Three more years.
- 33:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna gonna punch you out. Kids by the end. Yeah,
- 33:30Speaker 1: your grandkids, more grandkids. That's what I'm hoping for. If
- 33:35Speaker 1: I could see Winton's grandkids, great grandfather, huh. If I
- 33:41Speaker 1: could see Winton's grandkids, you'll be good. I'm gonna push
- 33:48Speaker 1: the button. Yeah, Winter is my youngest. So one let's
- 33:53Speaker 1: say went to have a kid in ten years and
- 33:56Speaker 1: then twenty years later that would be thirty is from
- 34:00Speaker 1: now I'll be ninety. I could see his son that
- 34:04Speaker 1: I go on in. Okay, I just want to see it,
- 34:08Speaker 1: that little boy at Yeah, that's how I'm gonna do it.
- 34:14Speaker 1: You gotta worked out. I'm just that's what I'm going
- 34:16Speaker 1: to the Lord with. Okay, alright, so um, more stars
- 34:21Speaker 1: and more celebrities. Thank you for that, Steve. We're all
- 34:24Speaker 1: talking about what Aretha Franklin means to them. We'll talk

- 34:46Speaker 1: Sho minnicame. I'm too young to let you know just

- 36:43Speaker 1: tell me what it needs? I want to go man
- 36:52Speaker 1: ever better around, sleep some time? Nothing wrong? All right?
- 36:59Speaker 1: I like the cans of ways is love? Always want
- 37:18Speaker 1: you to have a bag my love. I want you. Hello,
- 37:41Speaker 1: you're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show. Hey, listen up,
- 37:47Speaker 1: welcome back. Today. We are paying tribute to the Queen,
- 37:51Speaker 1: the Queen of Soul. We're gonna go to the phone
- 37:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna let you tell us what the Queen of
- 37:58Speaker 1: Soul meant to you or your favorite h read the
- 38:01Speaker 1: Franklin song memory anything call us eight seven seven nine,
- 38:04Speaker 1: Steve eight seven seven nine Steve. All right, y'all, Uh,
- 38:09Speaker 1: here we go. Hey, who is this? What's up? Steve? Man?
- 38:12Speaker 1: This is Uncle Charlie. Say. Man. I woke up yesterday
- 38:15Speaker 1: morning to some awful news man that the Queen Retha Franklin,
- 38:20Speaker 1: Queen of Soul passed on. Man it is and had me.
- 38:24Speaker 1: I was open so discombobulated man all the morning. Man,
- 38:28Speaker 1: it's just at all right now. And I'm just gonna
- 38:32Speaker 1: miss her a lot, not only just the vocals. You know,
- 38:35Speaker 1: she taught us all how to sing, you know. And
- 38:37Speaker 1: if she's the best that ever touched the microphone, hands down, female, male,
- 38:41Speaker 1: doesn't matter. She's just he's the greatest man. She could
- 38:44Speaker 1: do anything with a voice. And I gonna miss her
- 38:47Speaker 1: a lot. I'm gonna miss singing at the birthday parties.
- 38:51Speaker 1: And I'm gonna miss comparing diamond rings or whether you
- 38:55Speaker 1: know you couldn't go around her with a ring that
- 38:58Speaker 1: she thought it was bigger than hers. So you know,
- 39:00Speaker 1: we used to laugh about that. So if if she
- 39:03Speaker 1: knew I was gonna have a ring that was bigger,
- 39:05Speaker 1: she would bring it. She would wear I think the ring.
- 39:07Speaker 1: So but it was she you couldn't outdo her periods.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Just so I was like, I'm gonna miss that, man,
- 39:14Speaker 1: just she's just an awesome woman. She asked me to
- 39:16Speaker 1: do a record for her, and so the guys that
- 39:18Speaker 1: I had working on the record sounded like, um, what
- 39:22Speaker 1: was that movie? Uh, Sparkle? It sounded like Sparkle. Because
- 39:26Speaker 1: I was just so upset, and I didn't send a
- 39:28Speaker 1: record because, you know, searching for a record for for
- 39:30Speaker 1: a record for her, just like she had done every
- 39:33Speaker 1: kind of sound, every kind of vibe, every kind of
- 39:35Speaker 1: flavor that's known to her vocals. It just whatever you
- 39:40Speaker 1: came up with it, it's just gonna sound like something
- 39:42Speaker 1: she had already had not already done before. And so
- 39:45Speaker 1: I just couldn't come up with it. I was, you know, anyway, man,
- 39:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna miss her a lot. I'm gonna miss her
- 39:50Speaker 1: coming to the shows. You know, she always would pop
- 39:53Speaker 1: up every time I'm in Detroit. She would always, uh
- 39:56Speaker 1: come to the shows. Man, I love you. Read the
- 39:59Speaker 1: Franklin I'm gonna, truly, truly miss you and God bless
- 40:05Speaker 1: the family. I love you all. I gotta go, man,
- 40:07Speaker 1: I'm too emotional. Detroit and the rest of the country,
- 40:11Speaker 1: all morning long, we are saluting the Queen of Soul,
- 40:15Speaker 1: Aretha Franklin, the greatest singer of all time. We'll be
- 40:19Speaker 1: back at thirty four after the hour you're listening to
- 40:23Speaker 1: the Steve Harvey Morning Show. Well today, people, our hearts
- 40:27Speaker 1: are heavy as we lost the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Miss Franklin, of course, was born in Memphis, Tennessee, back
- 40:34Speaker 1: in nineteen forty two. She began singing in church before
- 40:38Speaker 1: recording her first gospel album at the age of just
- 40:42Speaker 1: fourteen years Uh yeah. After ten modestly successful albums, she
- 40:48Speaker 1: shifted to R and B and became the Queen of Soul. Yes.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Her six R and B chart toppers included the nineteen
- 40:57Speaker 1: sixty seven pop number one hit respect our sp e
- 41:01Speaker 1: c t fin know what it means to me? That's right.
- 41:05Speaker 1: She hit the top twenty on the pop chart two
- 41:07Speaker 1: dozen times, Areta one eighteen grammys over her career, plus
- 41:13Speaker 1: two honorary Grammys. She was the first female solo artist
- 41:17Speaker 1: that was ever inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall
- 41:20Speaker 1: of Fame. She performed, Yes, she performed at the presidential
- 41:24Speaker 1: inaugurations of Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and of course Barack Obama.
- 41:29Speaker 1: That hat, Yes, that You'll never forget that hat. That hat.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Remember when Ellen wore the hat on her show the
- 41:38Speaker 1: following day. That was funny. Yes, Mr Areta was married
- 41:42Speaker 1: and divorced twice. She was survived by four sons. And
- 41:46Speaker 1: all morning long, we're going to play Aretha Franklin songs.
- 41:49Speaker 1: And boy did she have some hints sweet guy. And
- 42:05Speaker 1: I'm away and speaking thing and I'll say, say listen,
- 42:15Speaker 1: I do and I said away out and game a
- 42:27Speaker 1: little too to be all I'm just missing man, baby
- 43:08Speaker 1: get so they just say, day you bitten to the
- 44:09Speaker 1: Uh listen up, We're gonna go to the phones. Uh
- 44:13Speaker 1: Collins eight seven seven twenty nine. Steve eight seven seven
- 44:18Speaker 1: All right cha? Who is this? Hi, Steve? This is
- 44:21Speaker 1: Marla gif. I was in Detroit at the same time
- 44:24Speaker 1: Areta was, but I didn't really get to know her,
- 44:27Speaker 1: which I'm so sorry about. But I did get to
- 44:29Speaker 1: meet her later out here in Los Angeles, and of
- 44:33Speaker 1: course she's a phenomenal artist and phenomenal person. I mean
- 44:38Speaker 1: you immediately know areto the moment you hear her voice.
- 44:41Speaker 1: We don't have to make that transition. I'm sorry she
- 44:44Speaker 1: made her at this time, but perhaps it was time.
- 44:47Speaker 1: And of course she's never gone because her music will
- 44:50Speaker 1: live forever with all of us. We will always know
- 44:53Speaker 1: a reata when you have that kind of gift and
- 44:56Speaker 1: last forever. So thank you for doing a little tribute
- 44:59Speaker 1: to A. But I appreciate it, and I love you.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Every time I've seen you, You've been so gracious to me.
- 45:05Speaker 1: I love you, and one day I'll be on your
- 45:07Speaker 1: show talking to you. Honey. Anyway, have a blessed to
- 45:11Speaker 1: day and a blessed life. Keep doing what you're doing
- 45:15Speaker 1: because you're doing great. Thank you, Bye bye. You're listening
- 45:19Speaker 1: to the Steve Harvey Morning Show. Our hearts are heavy
- 45:23Speaker 1: this morning. We lost the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Uh So, all morning long, we're going to do a
- 45:30Speaker 1: tribute to her music and her legacy because it will
- 45:34Speaker 1: live forever, and it will live here on the Steve
- 45:36Speaker 1: Harvey Morning Show. We all loved Aretha, all loved her.
- 45:41Speaker 1: We're gonna go to the phones. Good morning, Steve, this
- 45:44Speaker 1: is revenew Shops and and I wanted to share with
- 45:48Speaker 1: you as we all celebrate the life of Aretha Franklin,
- 45:53Speaker 1: that h Aretha Franklin was not only the ultimate UH
- 45:59Speaker 1: singa and vocalist of all times, she was a real
- 46:04Speaker 1: civil rights activist. She used to tell me about how
- 46:08Speaker 1: her father, Reverend Cel Franklin, who was the preeminent preacher
- 46:13Speaker 1: of his generation, was the partners with Dr King and
- 46:18Speaker 1: Martin Luther King Market in Detroit. And first did that
- 46:23Speaker 1: I have a dream speech in Detroit in June nineteen
- 46:26Speaker 1: sixty three before going to Washington doing it at the
- 46:31Speaker 1: nineteen sixty three March on Washington. And she telled me
- 46:35Speaker 1: ramal and sixty seven. Dr King last year, Uh, he
- 46:40Speaker 1: couldn't make payroll a lot because a lot of donors
- 46:43Speaker 1: had stopped giving money to his organization because he had
- 46:47Speaker 1: come out against the war in Vietnam. And I went
- 46:50Speaker 1: on the road and did eleven cities with Hart Bellafonte
- 46:54Speaker 1: to raise money to cover Dr King's payroll when I
- 46:58Speaker 1: was a young artist. And then from there all the
- 47:02Speaker 1: way through her career. He was the Mandela Free Mandela movement.
- 47:06Speaker 1: Stevie wanted to getting the doctor King holiday. She would
- 47:10Speaker 1: always mend a presence. And then when I started becoming known.
- 47:14Speaker 1: She knew me when I was a boy preacher. She
- 47:18Speaker 1: was about thirteen fourteen years older me, but her father's
- 47:21Speaker 1: come freach at the church. So as I grew she said,
- 47:24Speaker 1: you know, I know who you are, and I'm gonna
- 47:26Speaker 1: help you. And she would she come to my events.
- 47:30Speaker 1: She would send us check. I remember one time she
- 47:33Speaker 1: uh sent me a check to NASHNAS network and I saw,
- 47:38Speaker 1: if you want to say that, I said, you know,
- 47:39Speaker 1: miss Franklin, I was so uh taken aback that you
- 47:43Speaker 1: send me the check. I framed it. She's a boy
- 47:45Speaker 1: even put there in the bank for I moved all
- 47:47Speaker 1: the money out that account. She said, you have a
- 47:49Speaker 1: copy of the check, framed the copy. I mean she
- 47:52Speaker 1: was like that. But legacy was that she never was
- 47:57Speaker 1: disconnected from her community. She was never one that lost
- 48:02Speaker 1: her authenticity no start and made her too big for
- 48:07Speaker 1: her not to stay grounded. You could be the tallest
- 48:11Speaker 1: tree in the music forest as long as you were
- 48:14Speaker 1: connected to your roots. That besides your height. And I
- 48:18Speaker 1: learned that from her she'd liked to cook, and she'd
- 48:21Speaker 1: laughed and talked. I would always go to birthday part
- 48:24Speaker 1: She was all the way real and regal at the
- 48:28Speaker 1: same time. She was real and she was regal, and
- 48:32Speaker 1: she appreciated people that never forgot their roots and would
- 48:37Speaker 1: take a stand when she had sel Franklin's daughter took
- 48:40Speaker 1: a stand and started singing R and B. Some of
- 48:43Speaker 1: the trick folks criticized then in the Rhythm and Bruce
- 48:47Speaker 1: where they criticized because she'd always put a gospel song
- 48:51Speaker 1: in her show. She never uh in any way wavered.
- 48:56Speaker 1: She had this internal strength that she would do things
- 49:00Speaker 1: because you felt it was right. So we've lost the
- 49:03Speaker 1: greatest female vocals of all time, but also a great
- 49:07Speaker 1: freedom fighter. And I've lost a dear friend. The world
- 49:11Speaker 1: will never have another Reatha Franklin. And I know she
- 49:16Speaker 1: stood for what's right. And let me say this, Steve,
- 49:19Speaker 1: there's a lot of that in you. Uh here we go, Hey,
- 49:23Speaker 1: who is this? Hey, Steves Keith Sweat? Uh My condoles
- 49:27Speaker 1: is definitely goes out to the family of Mississia Franklin.
- 49:30Speaker 1: She was definitely a pioneer open doors for so many people,
- 49:37Speaker 1: I mean musically, and just really was. It was definitely
- 49:42Speaker 1: a class that. I mean, I remember readA back in
- 49:46Speaker 1: the day with I used to walk down it, you know,
- 49:48Speaker 1: being from Harlem, I used to walk down the streets
- 49:51Speaker 1: for Harleman look on the power sign and it would
- 49:53Speaker 1: say I read the Franklin performance tonight. Huh and uh
- 49:57Speaker 1: Ily the line all the way around the corner, you know,
- 50:01Speaker 1: seventh Favenue landing that you know, it would go as
- 50:03Speaker 1: far back as that. So for me, I know, we've
- 50:08Speaker 1: lost someone that you know, it has been a inspiration too,
- 50:12Speaker 1: and and and someone who has opened many doors for
- 50:15Speaker 1: people like Mary J. Blige to be honestly of the world,
- 50:19Speaker 1: and just the list goes on and on and on,
- 50:21Speaker 1: and she would be truly truly missed. Uh. She was
- 50:25Speaker 1: definitely one who said standards for so many people today
- 50:30Speaker 1: in this R and B game and this music game period.
- 50:33Speaker 1: And you know that was at the time whether the
- 50:35Speaker 1: pop music was R and B music. So I mean,
- 50:39Speaker 1: just her legacy expands from generations upon generations, so you know,
- 50:44Speaker 1: she would be truly truly mess man. I just remember
- 50:47Speaker 1: um one time when I met her, I was working
- 50:49Speaker 1: at w g C I in Chicago. Yes, and she
- 50:53Speaker 1: she she gave a concert and the radio show radio
- 50:55Speaker 1: station hosted the concert, and afterwards we got a chance
- 50:59Speaker 1: to go up and meet a Aretha Franklin. Oh my god,
- 51:04Speaker 1: you up. You had to walk up these stairs, You
- 51:07Speaker 1: had to wait. You talk about waiting in line here
- 51:10Speaker 1: at the Gucci store, Steve off the air, You talked
- 51:12Speaker 1: about that, but we I didn't care about. I didn't
- 51:14Speaker 1: care how long the line was to wait to see Aretha.
- 51:18Speaker 1: And when when when it finally came to be my turn,
- 51:21Speaker 1: they opened the door. I took a deep breath and
- 51:24Speaker 1: there she was sitting there like the queen that she is,
- 51:27Speaker 1: And it was really like meeting the Queen. I mean really,
- 51:32Speaker 1: I felt I did everything but Curtsey, I did everything.
- 51:35Speaker 1: I did everything but that. We're gonna go to the phone.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Good morning, Steve. Anthony Hamilton's yeah, man, Aretha was a
- 51:42Speaker 1: big injoint on my music, just her delivery and the
- 51:45Speaker 1: passion she had. I remember one time I was supposed
- 51:47Speaker 1: to had done us a tribute to her, singing her song,
- 51:50Speaker 1: and she requested that not only I sing, but that
- 51:54Speaker 1: I sing my own music. She wanted me to sing Charlene,
- 51:56Speaker 1: you can't let go, and Uh, I was like, wow,
- 51:59Speaker 1: here it is for her, but she understands the importance
- 52:02Speaker 1: of an artist being an artists and delivering their own songs.
- 52:05Speaker 1: So it was really touching to know that she wanted that.
- 52:08Speaker 1: And uh, you know, back when I was like really young,
- 52:11Speaker 1: about seven and eight, I'm so used to hearing just gospel,
- 52:15Speaker 1: and my family was playing this music that felt like gospel.
- 52:19Speaker 1: But I heard the lyrics you make me feel like
- 52:22Speaker 1: a natural woman, and I was blown away. I was
- 52:24Speaker 1: just like, how could it not be gospel if it
- 52:27Speaker 1: makes me feel like that? And from then on, I
- 52:29Speaker 1: was just really drawn to learn more, to feel more,
- 52:32Speaker 1: and they experienced more of that sound and Areta had
- 52:35Speaker 1: it consistently. It's a big miss, but Hers, I can
- 52:38Speaker 1: see a live on through my kids and the legendary
- 52:41Speaker 1: Aretha Franklin will always be around. Coming up. We are
- 52:45Speaker 1: celebrating the life, the music, and the legacy of the
- 52:48Speaker 1: Queen of soul, Aretha Franklin. Let's go back, Let's go back,
- 53:01Speaker 1: and let's go on the way back when but didn't
- 53:05Speaker 1: even know you. You couldn't have been too much Montange
- 53:08Speaker 1: just tip that you ain't not be tuk in the great,
- 53:13Speaker 1: but they don't change too much. Time to see what
- 53:16Speaker 1: you're gonna be and not a thing say think about
- 53:19Speaker 1: what you're trying to do to be a think think

- 56:08Speaker 1: a bag on a free way? No, I think you'll

- 56:35Speaker 1: your fails. We keep from one who lose a fine
- 56:45Speaker 1: do think of my gay you the tradics mo ween,
- 56:52Speaker 1: the show go on. Now our feet we're going running
- 57:10Speaker 1: on the feeling love my pink hat and that We're

- 57:41Speaker 1: So drop the top, baby, screwise on him to it.
- 57:46Speaker 1: It's spending over street. Listen up, We're gonna go to
- 57:57Speaker 1: the phone. Call us eight seven seven twenty nine Steve
- 58:00Speaker 1: A seven seven Who is this? Stay stevens Maslo? How
- 58:04Speaker 1: are you? Good morning? It's a tragic loss, one of
- 58:08Speaker 1: the eighth wonders of the world, which her voice is um.
- 58:11Speaker 1: Former President Obama stated in his message about her, I've
- 58:16Speaker 1: been following her for a while. I got to meet
- 58:20Speaker 1: her at the Borgata in and eight she came to
- 58:23Speaker 1: see me perform. Almost lost my mind. I couldn't believe
- 58:27Speaker 1: that in the audience, you know, she was she was
- 58:30Speaker 1: like four rows. And I actually said in the audience,
- 58:34Speaker 1: I mean, I want to get really X rated, guys,
- 58:36Speaker 1: but you know, Miss Franklin's in the audience, and she
- 58:39Speaker 1: was like, go ahead, so do what you got to do.
- 58:43Speaker 1: She was like going ahead, you know. She her hands
- 58:45Speaker 1: were up and she was like, just say say what
- 58:48Speaker 1: you want, you know, and we got a chance to
- 58:50Speaker 1: talk backstage, we took photos. She was like, baby, your
- 58:54Speaker 1: eyes are tired of you, okay, And I mean it's
- 58:57Speaker 1: just for me. It was the beginning of a friendship
- 59:00Speaker 1: and a connection that I never thought would ever come
- 59:03Speaker 1: my way. I mean, I've been listening to her because
- 59:06Speaker 1: I was born. I know pretty much every song. So
- 59:09Speaker 1: it's three days ago when everyone got news about you
- 59:12Speaker 1: know that that she was. She was kind of in
- 59:15Speaker 1: a critical state. You know. All I did was player
- 59:18Speaker 1: records over and over again, each prayer, for every meal.
- 59:22Speaker 1: She was always there and you know, to wake up today.
- 59:26Speaker 1: It's crazy because I really I actually have her phone
- 59:30Speaker 1: number frames when she gave it to me. You know,
- 59:33Speaker 1: she wrote re Re, which was definitely was her nickname,
- 59:36Speaker 1: and it's hanging about. The first black and white photo
- 59:39Speaker 1: I've ever gotten. I was gifted by my manager and
- 59:42Speaker 1: best friend, John D. Was the grandson of John D. Hammond,
- 59:46Speaker 1: who signed her to Columbia and also signed Billie Holiday.
- 59:49Speaker 1: So that's like the first piece of art I've ever had,
- 59:52Speaker 1: photographic that's on a frame. Everything. It's in the studio.
- 59:57Speaker 1: And when I got the news, I walked in and
- 59:59Speaker 1: up in at that photo. Right next to that photo
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: was her signature and her phone number, you know, and
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: it was like written on a envelope. I'm hard figured
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: it out, you know what I mean, Like this is
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: like precious thing and it's just you know, the last
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: time I saw her was I saw her last performance
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: at Elton John's fiftieth anniversary for his Foundation for HIV,
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: and I watched him play the piano and sing like
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: there would no tomorrow. And who would have known that
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: a few months later that that would be the case. So,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: I mean, we all would be so lucky to even
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: do one fourth or one twelfth of what she's done
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: for the world through her voice and through her music.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: And he was grateful that God gave me the opportunity
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: to actually need her and to celebrate her and to
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: tell her just just what an impact she has not
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: only on me, but on everyone that's her song. Thank
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: you for letting me calling today to be part of
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: this tribute to her it and uh you know, of course,
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: you know Steve Harvey and when he's a mass and
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: done to keep the tradition of soul music going and
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: encouragement and self esteeming all people that he always brings.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: It's just great to get a chance to with him
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: about saying through him, you know, so, thank you guys
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: for having me. And I'm wishing that you know, we
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: keep her alive. We keep her alive through her songs,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: all the things that she did to make this world
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: so beautiful with her music. We miss you. All right,
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: We'll be back with more of the Steve Harvey Morning
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: Show right after this. You're listening to Harvey Morning Show.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: Many of the Atlantic artists, Ruth Brown and Laverne Baker,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: the Drifters, the Clover's, Benny King, uh you name it,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: they want Atlantic and particularly Ruth Brown, some of the
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: artists I think that personified night a certain style of
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: music yesterday and carried it on to its present. Me.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: All right, Steve, as you know, a lot of stars,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: celebrities and singers love and of course respect the Queen
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: of Soul. Here's Smoky Robinson telling us about the first
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: time he heard a Wreatha Franklin sing. The first time
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: I heard to read the thing. She was probably about
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: six years old. Her brother, Cecil, was one of my
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: closest friends, and he had taken me to their house
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: for the first time when they moved into the neighborhood.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: We go in and I hear somebody in the next
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: room playing the piano and singing. And I know it's
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: a kid singing because I can tell by the way
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: the boy sounds. But the kid is singing, singing, And
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: I go in there and its Areatha. She's playing the
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: piano and singing. And the only difference in what she
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: was doing and what she does know is that she
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: was smaller. That's it. Also country music star Faith Hill
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: love the Queen of Soul. A couple of years later,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: back at the Grammys, just came off of my performance.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: I'm in my dressing room changing and my tour manager
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: comes in. He goes, hey, come to the door and
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: there's somebody I want you to meet, and she standing
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: there at the door. I started crying. I couldn't stop
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: touching her. It was the weird she was talking to
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: me as if she were my child I was. I
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: was just rubbing her face, and I was rubbing her shoulder,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: and I was crying, and it was totally out of control. Um.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: Here's Shaka Khan on Aretha Franklin. Take a listen. If
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: it weren't for Aretha, none of us should be happening,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: you know what I mean. In a way, she liberated
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: black women to speak their minds. Donnie McClerkin loved the
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: Queen of Soul. He talked about the Aretha Franklin's influence
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: on the church. I feel that soul music, or so
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: artists like Aretha Franklin and Donnie Hathaway to be in
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: particular the reason why there's music sounded the way it
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: is because of that influence. I believe that's really all
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: that I am. It's really all that I know. My
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: adult life kind of is the paint, you know, the
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: finishing touches, But most of the house and the foundation
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: is is church period. Now here's something unlikely legendary group
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: The Beach Boys. Yeah, the Beach Boys, Mike Love. Mike Love,
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: The Beach Boys said Aretha Franklin was the greatest singer
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: of all times. It's one of the greatest of all time.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: She's like classic and she deserves all the respect she
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: can get. She's got a great set of pipes. There's
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: no question about it. Let me tell you, it's the
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: same music. The Beach Boys knew Aretha Franklin, just like
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: they knew you know, Chicago, any other group, any Beetles. Yeah,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: they knew Yo lovers friend feeling friend? Fair? So you
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: lovers friend, who are feeling free? Boy? They remade that
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: temptation jam Well, Steve, Yeah, that was great. Say looking
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: for you? Oh my, I wake up, amaka make up
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: selling pred for you. I'm comb in my hand now
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: in one bit. One has to win when I say
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: a little pred for you, whatever whatever you say in
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: my heart, and I will love you forever and I
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: never whichever one or how I'm coming to go again.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: Sent the spend to l where I just would on
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: let me I breakball, b I'm for the bust. What why? Alright?
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: It up? Thinking if you ever got just stick time
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: and from my call me bread time break just say
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: bread for you, however I ever be the same my
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: heart and I will love you forever. I never we
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: have re bot or how I love him? Took out
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: and look out again that how it was fair to
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: live when I you would only mean heart break for me.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: Believe whatever I bade this day my heart and I
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: will love it forever. Never would never born or hour
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: I love it. Took outa get to gotta get us
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: how it was fed to live where I just would
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: only mean heart break for me, my daughter, Believe me
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: me me, there is no please love me you I'm
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: in love with. It's my friend. It's my friend. Of thing,
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: that's my friend. Say you love me too, AND's my friend.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: That's my prod. That's my friend. Whoever saying I will
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: love him forever and whatever wept or how I love

- 1:07:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna believe me, believe me for me there is now.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: This is my friend. It's my friend. That's all goods.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: That's my band. You're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show. Today,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: we're celebrating the music, the life, and the legacy of

- 1:14:08Speaker 1: Eight seven nine Steve, uh, here we go? Hey? Who
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: is this? Hey? Brother? Steve A Landa Yilanda Adams. I
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: know you know who I am, and I am overwhelmed
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: number one. Um. I've been trying to find the words
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: to describe how I feel right now, knowing that we
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: won't have the beautiful Miss Areta Franklin with us, uh
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: any longer. To me, she was a great mentor. She
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: taught me so many things about the business, what to do,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: what not to do, and she was one of the
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: most giving women I know. You know, she always would
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: send flowers just on g P. You know, I told
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: somebody that already. You know, you get home from a
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: trip or whatever, and you see these beautiful flowers, and
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: you know it has to be from one of two people,
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: Tyler Perry or read the Franklin. And you know, she
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: was just to me, she's just the epitome of a queen.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: And that is why she's called the Queen of soul.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: And I know you have a whole lot more people
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: to talk to, but she embodied to me the excellence
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: of combining all music genres. She could sing gospel, she
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: could sing R and B, she could sing pop, she
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: can sing opera, country and western, you name it, she
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: could do it. And so we're really gonna miss her.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: I loved her so much, still love her. We've been
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: praying for the family, been in touch with the family,
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: and uh it's pretty hard on them right now, So
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: keep them in your prayers. Okay. I love you all
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: so much you're listening. You couldn Steve Harvey Morning Show
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: shop shoot shot mint same. I'm too young to let
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: you know just where I'm come from. Oh but you
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: will see. There's just a man. My love is shot
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: when I make him made everybody around safe some time
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: I'm not. It's wrong side my blame money. I like
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: the count away we have app Here's what I've wi

- 1:19:46Speaker 1: listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show. Well today people,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: our hearts are heavy as we lost the Queen of Soul,

- 1:20:36Speaker 1: eighteen Grammys over her career, plus two honorary Grammys. She
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: was the first female solo artist that was ever inducted
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She performed Yes.
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: She performed at the presidential inaugurations of Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton,
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: and of course Barack Obama. That yes, that You'll never
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: forget that that hat. Remember when Ellen wore the hat
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: on her show the following day. That was funny. Yah h.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: Mr Aretha was married and divorced twice. She was survived
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: by four sons and all morning long, We're going to
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: play Aretha Franklin songs, and boy did she have some hits, man, Steve,
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: and she had some hits. What's your favorite? Huh? I
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: ain't because you love them all? Yeah, it was so many,
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: it was no freeway of love. Yeah. I was later
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: in her career for daydreaming, daydreaming you know what? Saw
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: my mom's jump to it? Oh yeah, remember that? I
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: loved what about call Me? I Love you? She had
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: so many hits, I mean she she truly earned her
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: title and wore her title as the Queen Well her
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: voice don't Yeah, greatest singer of all I agree for
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: because you can sing anything anything, opera, gospel, country, rock, soul,
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: of course, goes on and on. Yeah. Wow, and she
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: loves she loved you, Steve Harvey, she did. She was

- 1:26:15Speaker 1: gonna let you do it on you and y'all tell us,
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: tell us what Queen meant to you? Um. My dad
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: introduced me to The Queen and one of the first
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: albums we listened to I was probably ten years old,
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: and he said, this is what music is supposed to
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: sound like. She makes you feel something. That's how my
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: dad and I bonded was over music, and so he
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: was right. She made me feel lots of things, and
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: she was with me through the good in the past.
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: We are celebrating the life, the music, and the legacy
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. We'll be back
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: right after this. You're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: Today we are paying tribute to the Queen, the Queen
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: of Soul. All right, Steve, As you know, a lot
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: of stars, celebrities and singers love and of course respect
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: the Queen of Soul. We're gonna go to the phone.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna let you tell us what the Queen of
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: Soul meant to you. All your favorite read the Franklin
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: song Memory Anything Callinus eight seven seven twenty nine. Steve
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: eight seven seven twenty nine. All right, y'all, Uh, here
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: we go. Hey, who is this? Hey? Steve Tyler Perry
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: here man. I wish I was calling on a better occasion,
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: but you know, just celebrating Areta. I gotta tell you,
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: I was at one of the last performances that she
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: did at the Kennedy Center Islands. I was there honoring
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: Rich Franklin. I was sitting up in the balcony with
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: Barack Obama and Michelle, and he turned to me and
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: he after she finishing in Natural Woman and bringing the
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: house down, he turns to me and said, that's why
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: she's the Queen of soul. And I never forgot that
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: and the reason she's the Queen of souls because not
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: only she had this incredible voice, but she knows that
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: she knew how to use it. She knew how to
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: use it to make us feel good, to have us
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: make abies, to take us to church. I mean, she
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: sung us through assassinations and celebration. So Areta is gonna
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: be miss man. And I posted this thing yesterday. Uh,
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: the Prince, the Princess, the King, and the Queen, Prince, Whitney, Michael,
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: and Areta all gone. So I don't know where music
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: is headed now, man, but but I'm glad they left
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: us with such incredible uh direction, and then such an
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: incredible blueprint on what and how to do. And I'm
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: just hoping that more thingers take a listen to these
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: legends and bring us that kind of music, because that's
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: what we missed. So God bless her and her family.
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: I want to thank her for being a close friend
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: to me, and just every time she saw me. She
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: loved talking. We love talking. She loved talking about the
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: halves and have not sense how much she loved as
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: she loved madea and just I mean it was just
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: really really great. And I got chance to talk to her,
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: you know, when I found out she was ill, and
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: they had her in good spirits, laughing and so on
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: and so forth. So my prayers are with her. God
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: bless you, God, bless you. See from what you're doing,
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: what you want, what you need to do. You know
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: what I got it too, all my basket spoil and

- 1:30:54Speaker 1: drink of j c jy site story. All right, we'll
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: be back with more of the Steve Harvey Morning Show
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: right after this. You're listening to Steve Harvey Morning Show. Hey,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: listen up, welcome back. Today. We are paying tribute to
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: the Queen, the Queen of Soul. We're gonna go to
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: the phones. Uh, I'm gonna let you tell us what
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: the Queen of Soul meant to you. All your favorite
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: read the Franklin song Memory Anything call Us eight seven
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: seven twenty nine Steve eight seven seven twenty ninety. All right, y'all, Uh,
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: here we go. Hey, who is this? Yes, this is
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: Greg Matthis the judge, And yeah, I'm saddened to hear
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: the loss of my friend Aretha Franklin. I was just
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: in communication with her a couple of weeks ago, and
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: her spirits were up so much so that she wanted
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: to vacation. And I knew that, you know, she could
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: not do so. And she said, let's go on another trip, Greg,
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: And I said sure, Sis three And of course now
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: we know of her demise, but one of the things
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: that many people did not know about is that she
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: played a significant role and continues to in changing America.
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: Um her father raised her in the civil rights movement.
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: In fact, C. L. Franklin a towering figure in the
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: civil rights movement. In fact, she traveled with Dr King
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: Um or Luther King in concerts that benefited the f
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: e l C and the civil rights movement. Indeed, they
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: did a tour of eleven cities to raise money. And
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: also I was praised to work with her in Detroit
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: and the city we're both from. We've worked in the
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: community there together for some twenty years or more. And
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: she was a great woman, more than just the greatest
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: vocalist of all times, which she was, but she was
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: also dedicated to her community and help change the world
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: with her efforts and civil rights and social justice. And
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: one of the other things that I think people should
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: know is that she was very cultivated and very intelligent
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: and aware of all current affairs. We sit and talk
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: about the political affairs of the day, we would disagree
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: on many of them, uh, And I found it very
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: impressive that she kept up on many of the issues,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: very few entertainers might be informed on or might seek
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: to involve themselves. As you know, she introduced one of
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: the greatest or She brought to us one of the
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: greatest performances of any White House inauguration. And we've been
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: blessed and will continue to be blessed for years and
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: with that performance and with the symbolism that goes along
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: with that. And she was just a great woman to
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: a vocalists of all times and a great humanitarian who
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: helped change America, Detroit and the rest of the country.
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: All morning long, we are saluting the Queen of soul,
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: Aretha Franklin. A Steve and everybody, This is a Lonnie Love.
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: Y'all know I'm from Detroit, and you know Aretha Franklin.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: She was our queen. I know she was everybody's queen,
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: but when it came to the city of Detroit, Aretha
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: was Detroit. Um. I can remember my mom's and everybody
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: listening to her. She's always active in the church and
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: her dad's church. We would go to her dad's church,
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: we would hear her singing and she was just the joy. Um.
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: Even though she's gone, we still have her music, especially
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: her gospel music. And that's the influence that I will
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: always have. That's the vision of her that I will
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: always have. And I just want to say I love you, Aretha,
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: Thank you so much for representing Detroit. He made us proud.
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: Thanks guys. All right, coming up our last break of
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: the day, we're going to close out the show. You're
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: listening to the Steve Harvey. Well, Steve, we've called upon
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: the world and the Steve Harvey Nations. And now we
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: have a special guest. She is Detroit and Philly Radio legend,
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: Miss Frankie Darcel. Good morning, Steve, Carla Shirley, Tommy, Good
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: morning Jr. Um Like Steve, Wow, we were just talking
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: about Aretha the other day and and you know, I
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: found it interesting across my mind when you said the
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: other day that God's will will be done. What a
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: legacy we're all gonna make our transition, Steve. You know,
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: we've got a birthdate and a death date and in
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: that middle there there's that dash. What a life to
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: rehash of Aretha Franklin. You know, she could have lived
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: anywhere on the globe, and she chose to continue to
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: live here in the city of Detroit. And of course
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: our hearts are heavy. We pray for her family. Um.
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: And nothing like losing a parent and to lose you know,
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: your mom. So we pray for her children, uh and
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: her family and extended family. She is the queen of soul.
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: But Steve, you know I would share with you as
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: well that not only was she the Queen of soul,
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: but the work that her father C. L. Franklin did
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: on behalf of not only the citizens of the City
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: of truth, Detroit, but around the world and working with
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: Dr King and others, she too was a part of
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: that civil rights movement. Now that we think about her
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: life to rehash, we think about who a Aretha Franklin
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: really was not only the queen of soul. And I
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: said the other day, Um, she's the Queen of soul
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: to the world, but she's also family um uh to us.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: You know, she will be missed, but she hasn't left
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: just a huge example of what our young artists should be,
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: how they could tap into her greatness um, and of
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: course her her her legacy that she leaves uh here
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: in the city of Detroit. And you know what, Steve,
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: thank you as well. Everybody's talking about her passing, but
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: just the way that you're doing, um what you're doing
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: and celebrating her life, her loves and her legacy. So
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: you know, on behalf of the city. You know, we
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: just thank you for telling the world what they already knew,
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: but reminding them this morning. Tell y'all something about Aretha Franklin. Man,
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: you know, this is a farewell. Missy Elliott says something
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: really smart she was after she sent her prayers up.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: She said, refer back to my text, and Miss Elliot
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: had text that we've got to take time out to
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: honor these legends while they live in So to the
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: Queen of Soul who was such a fan of mine
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: and our fan of hers. And you know we've talked
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: many times. And in case you're young and millennial, I
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: don't care, I don't care who you are. You should
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: know who Aretha franklisis. So just let me help you
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: understand treasure, see a national treasure. She is the Queen
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: of Soul, just like James Brown was the Godfather of Soul.
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: Mr Queen of Soul. But do you understand that if
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: it was no Aretha Franklin, there would be no Mary J. Blincke,
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: that there would be no Anita Baker, that there would
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: be no Quitney. Do you know that there would be
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: no error Kaba dude. There would be no Jail Scott.
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: That would be no Vivian Green. That would be no Beyonce,
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: that would be no Layla half Away. There would be
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: no Yolanda Adams. That would not be no Kim Barell.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: That would be no Shaka Khan. I can go down
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: the list. There would be no emotions. I'm telling you,
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: and all these girls I'm naming to you can't sane.
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: And you know where they got it from from the
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: Queen of soul. Her daddy was all that up in Detroit.
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: You now listen to me. There are other icons in
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: this world still living. Patti LaBelle, still Hill, Gladys Night,
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: still Hill. But do you understand, Dana Ross. Let let
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: me let me, let me just get you to understand
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: what we're really talking about. We're just talking about sheer
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: greatness at the rawest level. Take all the technology out,
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: and all these people I just named, you can still
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: flat out saying now if your name is on this list,
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: I just forgot. There are some names I probably forgotten.
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: You know, some some great female vocals out there, Shot
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: Days and and dog Oh Lord have mercies, you know,
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: Faith Evans. You know it's some girls out here that
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: I left off the list. And it wasn't to show
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: you in disrespect at all. I'm just telling you Fantasia
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: can give her career to reform. But I'll tell you
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: what Fantasier tell you that because they got it. See
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: Eric got it, they got it. Janet Jackson would not
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: exist without Aretha Franklin. I just saw Beyonce live, and
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: Beyonce right now the greatest living female artists in terms
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: of showmanship and singing the whole package. I've never seen
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: a more talented person than Beyonce. Now, now, when you
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: started talking about singing, hold up, now, we got to
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: get on over here, started talking about Aretha frank You
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: gotta get over here. You gotta start talking about what
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: need to Baker. You gotta get over here and talk
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: about later half away and that girl was saying, man,
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: but you got to talk all gladdess and Patty and
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: and and and the diva of all divas, din I
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: got what Missy said, and Missy right, So I just
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: want her family if they're listening up in Detroit. When
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: it come to flat out flat out singing what y'all
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: y'all don't even know. I don't even know. If you
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: understand Skip the technology didn't have You can't reproduce the
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: sound like you know. But they had a simple snare drum,
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: they had real horn section violins. But her voice though, Lord,
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Lord have mercy, you don't know, asked the emotion. They'll
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: tell you. The emotions are telling. Breatha Frankly, it's one
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: of the greatest artists to have ever lived. Her career
