- 0:00Mark chapter 15 Early in the morning the chief priests with
- 0:04the elders and scribes and the whole council immediately held a
- 0:07consultation and binding Jesus. They let him away and delivered
- 0:10him to Pilate. Pilate questioned him, Are you
- 0:14the King of the Jews? And he answered him.
- 0:17It is as you say. The chief priests began to
- 0:20accuse him harshly. Then Pilate questioned him
- 0:22again, saying, Do you not answer?
- 0:24See how many charges they bring against you?
- 0:27But Jesus made no further answer.
- 0:29So Pilate was amazed now at the feast he used to release for
- 0:33them any one prisoner whom they requested.
- 0:35The man named Barabbas had been imprisoned with the
- 0:37insurrectionist who had committed murder in the
- 0:39insurrection. The crowd went up and began
- 0:42asking him to do as he had been accustomed to do for them.
- 0:45Pilate answered them, saying, Do you want me to release for you
- 0:48the king of the Jews? For he was aware that the chief
- 0:51priests had handed him over because of envy.
- 0:53But the chief priest stirred up the crowd to ask him to release
- 0:56Barabbas for them instead. Answering again, Pilate said to
- 0:59them, Then what shall I do with him whom you call the king of
- 1:03the Jews? They shouted back, Crucify him.
- 1:07But Pilate said to them, Why, what evil has he done?
- 1:11But they shouted all the more Crucify him.
- 1:14Wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate release Barabbas for
- 1:17them. And after having Jesus scourged,
- 1:20he handed him over to be crucified.
- 1:22The soldiers took him away into the palace that is the
- 1:25Praetorium, and they called together the whole Roman cohort.
- 1:29They dressed him up in purple, and after twisting a crown of
- 1:31thorns, they put it on him. They began to acclaim him Hail,
- 1:35King of the Jews. They kept beating his head with
- 1:37a Reed and spitting on Him, and kneeling and bowing before Him.
- 1:42After they had mocked him, they took the purple robe off of him
- 1:45and put his own garments on him, and they let him out to crucify
- 1:49him. They pressed into service a
- 1:51passer by coming from the country, Simon of Cyrene, the
- 1:55father of Alexander and Rufus, to bare his cross, and they
- 1:59brought him to the place Golgotha, which is translated
- 2:02Place of the Skull. They tried to give him wine
- 2:05mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.
- 2:07And they crucified him and divided up his garments among
- 2:10themselves, casting lots for them to decide what each man
- 2:14should take. It was the third hour when they
- 2:16crucified him. The inscription of the charge
- 2:19against him read the King of the Jews.
- 2:22They crucified 2 robbers with him, one on his right and one on
- 2:25his left, and the scripture was fulfilled which says, and he was
- 2:29numbered with transgressors. Those passing by were hurling
- 2:33abuse at him, wagging their heads and saying, Ha, you who
- 2:36are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,
- 2:39save yourself and come down from the cross.
- 2:42In the same way, the chief priest also along with the
- 2:45scribes were mocking him among themselves and saying he saved
- 2:49others, he cannot save himself. Let this Christ the King of
- 2:53Israel now come down from the cross so we may see and believe
- 2:58those who were crucified with him were also insulting him.
- 3:01When the 6th hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until
- 3:04the 9th hour. At the 9th hour, Jesus cried out
- 3:07with a loud voice. Eloise, Eloise, Lama
- 3:10Sabakhthani, which is translated My God, my God, why have you
- 3:15forsaken me? When some of the bystanders
- 3:18heard it, they began saying, behold, he was calling for
- 3:20Elijah. Someone ran and filled a sponge
- 3:23with sour wine, put it on a Reed and gave him a drink, saying,
- 3:27let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.
- 3:30And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last.
- 3:33And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
- 3:37When the centurion who was standing right in front of him
- 3:39saw the way he breathed his last, he said truly, this man
- 3:42was the Son of God. There were also some women
- 3:45looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene
- 3:48and Mary the mother of James the Less, and Josephs and Salome.
- 3:53When he was in Galilee, they used to follow him and minister
- 3:55to him. There were many other women who
- 3:57came up with him to Jerusalem when evening had already come,
- 4:01because it was the preparation day, that is, the day before the
- 4:04Sabbath. Joseph of Arimathea came, a
- 4:07prominent member of the council who himself was waiting for the
- 4:10Kingdom of God. And he gathered up courage and
- 4:12went in before Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.
- 4:16Pilate wondered if he was dead by this time, and summoning the
- 4:19centurion, he questioned him as to whether he was already dead.
- 4:23In ascertaining this from the centurion, he granted the body
- 4:26to Joseph. Joseph bought a linen cloth,
- 4:29took him down, wrapped him in the linen cloth, and laid him in
- 4:32a tomb which had been hewn out in the rock, and he rolled a
- 4:36stone against the entrance of the tomb.
- 4:38Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of Joseph, were looking on to
- 4:41see where he was laid.
