- 1:58Speaker 1: water hole call of Roman called nine one one, I'm
- 2:02Speaker 1: a fan. I'm just put it out front. I'm a
- 2:04Speaker 1: big fan of his from jump. Let me get all
- 2:07Speaker 1: the credits so we can start talking. I noticed his talents,
- 2:10Speaker 1: so for the first time, Tyler Prayer is the Oval.
- 2:13Speaker 1: That's when he came into my life that first season.
- 2:16Speaker 1: But it does not stop there. He's appearing right now
- 2:20Speaker 1: Will Smith new movie Keen Richards. He's also the Devil
- 2:24Speaker 1: Know you're coming out in opposite My Boys on My
- 2:27Speaker 1: ELPs and Michael Eally who also been on my show.
- 2:31Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about vonge new lead role and they
- 2:34Speaker 1: sent me some clips on your bones, so we're gonna
- 2:36Speaker 1: talk about that. You're surprised in the game. Everybody knows
- 2:42Speaker 1: the Game Serious Revival out on Paramount Plus. The show
- 2:46Speaker 1: premiered on Paramount Plus on Novever eleven of this year.
- 2:49Speaker 1: He'll be talking about his rising career, his journey uh
- 2:53Speaker 1: pivot him from a corporate life pursuing his acting in
- 2:56Speaker 1: his dream. And that's what we really want to talk about,
- 2:59Speaker 1: that making that leap. But all people talking about making
- 3:01Speaker 1: a leap of faith following their passion. But he did it,
- 3:04Speaker 1: and we're gonna talk about that because it always comes
- 3:05Speaker 1: with consequences that we can't control, but it's all positive
- 3:08Speaker 1: because you live in your dream and getting rolled successfully
- 3:11Speaker 1: in such a short period of time. What he has learned,
- 3:14Speaker 1: what's been an integral, integral part to his success on
- 3:17Speaker 1: his own journey this thus far, please walk into money
- 3:20Speaker 1: making conversation, Vaughan hebron. I appreciate you being man. Well.
- 3:27Speaker 1: First of all, um, let's part where are you from? Vaughan,
- 3:30Speaker 1: Where are you from? Originally boughtom of Maryland. Huh really
- 3:34Speaker 1: brought him in Maryland, and Uh, I went to high
- 3:37Speaker 1: school in Pennsylvania and the college at Lafia College, Pennsylvania
- 3:41Speaker 1: before I started traveling. Uh. In my pharmaceutical career, Okay, pharmaceuticals.
- 3:46Speaker 1: So that was a professional way of saying you were
- 3:48Speaker 1: selling drugs for a living. Oh yeah, I was professional
- 3:51Speaker 1: dope dealing because okay, you go, and nothing wrong with
- 3:54Speaker 1: that because the people do it for real, and that
- 3:56Speaker 1: people do it on the streets, and people in the streets,
- 3:59Speaker 1: those people get in Trump now use out there now
- 4:01Speaker 1: that I have a couple of friends about who were
- 4:04Speaker 1: professional pharmaceutical sale people and they make a good living.
- 4:08Speaker 1: They enjoy their life, drive nice cars, nice houses, vaun Okay, okay,
- 4:13Speaker 1: I'm assuming you can look at guy articulate, kind of
- 4:15Speaker 1: nice shape. You're probably have there being very successful, weren't you,
- 4:19Speaker 1: thank Yeah, man, I mean, you know, having it was
- 4:22Speaker 1: my first real job out of college. Um, you know,
- 4:26Speaker 1: and your your mid twenties having a pharmaceutical job. You know,
- 4:29Speaker 1: things are getting paid for, checks are coming in, You're
- 4:32Speaker 1: living a good life. So it was definitely a career
- 4:36Speaker 1: that my parents are proud of and that everybody from
- 4:40Speaker 1: the outside looking in just thought, hey, you already made
- 4:42Speaker 1: it at such an early time of your life, which
- 4:46Speaker 1: was even more of course interested when I shifted and
- 4:49Speaker 1: left that and go into acting. But uh, to your point,
- 4:53Speaker 1: most definitely it's it's a great career, and um, I
- 4:56Speaker 1: will go back to it if I wasn't happy what
- 4:59Speaker 1: I'm doing. Well, you know that that's really interesting because
- 5:01Speaker 1: the offer I was just telling you like that happened
- 5:03Speaker 1: to me. You know. I was my degrees in mathematics,
- 5:06Speaker 1: my miners, and sociology, graduated from University of Houston and Houston, Texas,
- 5:10Speaker 1: and got a job at IBM. In fact, I was
- 5:12Speaker 1: working with IBM two and a half years part time
- 5:14Speaker 1: before I, you know, send it to a full time opportunity.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Had the car, had their apartment, had the social life,
- 5:22Speaker 1: all that good stuff, all those boxes, all those boxes.
- 5:26Speaker 1: But I wasn't satisfied because from a creative standpoint, I wasn't.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I would never say I was not happy because the
- 5:35Speaker 1: best time in my life. I still live off those
- 5:37Speaker 1: life of experiences. But something was missing though on what
- 5:41Speaker 1: was missing? When you because you did all the right
- 5:43Speaker 1: thing I checked, check check what was missing? I think
- 5:47Speaker 1: for me, what was I know for me, what was
- 5:49Speaker 1: missing was the the feeling that I was actually accomplishing
- 5:56Speaker 1: something for myself, right, the feeling that I was uh
- 6:02Speaker 1: making myself happy before others that I was, That I
- 6:06Speaker 1: was accomplishing things because I wanted to do it, opposed
- 6:09Speaker 1: to just you know, the societal standards of making money,
- 6:15Speaker 1: getting a resume, um having this position, that position. It
- 6:19Speaker 1: was like when I stepped back and said that, am
- 6:22Speaker 1: I really happy hanging my hat on this besides everybody
- 6:25Speaker 1: else's Is this what I want to say that I'm doing?
- 6:28Speaker 1: I couldn't say that. You know, I was going through emotions.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I was going through my emotions. I was looking for
- 6:32Speaker 1: another reason to get out of bed every morning besides
- 6:35Speaker 1: just just fulfilling these certain duties that look good on
- 6:39Speaker 1: paper and they look good by societal standards. Right. Well,
- 6:41Speaker 1: you know, it's really interesting when I when I bring
- 6:43Speaker 1: guests like you on on money making conversation, because a
- 6:46Speaker 1: lot of people they wait to a certain point in
- 6:48Speaker 1: life where they make a decision. And maybe I always
- 6:50Speaker 1: took you There's no excuse, would never be an excuse.
- 6:55Speaker 1: And then like when I left IBM. I made that
- 6:57Speaker 1: decision a year in advance, and and I and I
- 7:01Speaker 1: was and I would tell people on the show. I've
- 7:03Speaker 1: said many time, I was brought to tears by that
- 7:04Speaker 1: decision because it was such a tough decision because I
- 7:07Speaker 1: wasn't sure, but I know, if I wanted to be
- 7:10Speaker 1: happy long term, I didn't want to look back years
- 7:13Speaker 1: and go, what if? What was that decision making process
- 7:16Speaker 1: to with you Von, you know, to which is led
- 7:19Speaker 1: to the oval, which has led to the game, which
- 7:21Speaker 1: has led to so many other opportunities we're gonna talk about.
- 7:24Speaker 1: But what really because it was nothing out that that
- 7:26Speaker 1: guaranteed you, because that was a guaranteed help benefits, guaranteed check,
- 7:30Speaker 1: guarfree ripping and pay. It came every week, fifth of
- 7:33Speaker 1: the twice a month, it came. It was the stability,
- 7:36Speaker 1: and it was it was the stability. It was, you know,
- 7:39Speaker 1: a very stable, safe environment that you're in. And I
- 7:43Speaker 1: guess the process for me was first realizing that I
- 7:48Speaker 1: wasn't fulfilled, you know. And I think a lot of
- 7:50Speaker 1: people actually feeled it sometimes and they struggled with it.
- 7:53Speaker 1: They may not be able to put their finger on
- 7:55Speaker 1: what it is, but it's the feeling of I'm not
- 7:59Speaker 1: I'm I happy for myself. I'm not um fulfilling my potential.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I'm not I'm getting up every day because I have to,
- 8:07Speaker 1: not because I want to. And I think understanding and
- 8:11Speaker 1: being aware of that first and foremost once. If you
- 8:14Speaker 1: have that awareness, then you can start making decisions from there,
- 8:17Speaker 1: and you know, understanding why you feel that way, understanding
- 8:21Speaker 1: how you can change that way, and then starting yourself
- 8:23Speaker 1: on the course um to change your life. So for me,
- 8:26Speaker 1: it was again understanding one day that you know, I
- 8:30Speaker 1: wasn't happy, and then starting to think of other things
- 8:34Speaker 1: that what made me happy. Understanding my passions, Understanding things
- 8:37Speaker 1: that I like to do when nobody's paying me to
- 8:39Speaker 1: do it, when nobody's forcing me to do it, what
- 8:41Speaker 1: do I find myself doing? And that's where I started
- 8:44Speaker 1: to draw, you know, eventually got into acting classes because
- 8:48Speaker 1: I've always loved movies, I've always loved television. Nobody ever
- 8:52Speaker 1: had to make me do that, and nobody that I'll
- 8:54Speaker 1: be on the TV watching my television all day, you know.
- 8:58Speaker 1: So it was it was first understanding that and that's
- 9:02Speaker 1: what led me to the course of actions that got
- 9:04Speaker 1: me eventually here we were talking to Van Hebron. He
- 9:07Speaker 1: starved a new series on Paramount Plus streaming the game. Uh,
- 9:11Speaker 1: we're gonna I want to jump a little bit of
- 9:13Speaker 1: heare because now this is a lead role. So this
- 9:16Speaker 1: is all about you, you know, because you you know,
- 9:18Speaker 1: they a lot of more pressure, you know about it.
- 9:21Speaker 1: And obviously they've sent me up sizzle cut sampling and
- 9:25Speaker 1: I got that met Man, you look like you really
- 9:29Speaker 1: can play the game with football. You really, I would
- 9:32Speaker 1: tell you so, man, you know, because you know, I
- 9:35Speaker 1: like when I was I've been and uh when I
- 9:37Speaker 1: did when I was co executive of the Jamie Foxx
- 9:39Speaker 1: Show way back when when he did uh, you know
- 9:42Speaker 1: the movie with Appuccino the Football, but when he played
- 9:44Speaker 1: the quarterback. You know, he got in shape, man, and
- 9:47Speaker 1: he and he played that role. That was actually the
- 9:49Speaker 1: role that the launched his career, especially as a dramatic actor,
- 9:53Speaker 1: because he was only names known as a comedian. And
- 9:56Speaker 1: when you go back and they throw that ball to
- 9:58Speaker 1: you and you catching you running man down the sideline
- 10:00Speaker 1: like a like a like a professional wilde receiver. Talk
- 10:03Speaker 1: about the reality of being able to say I want
- 10:08Speaker 1: people to feel I can actually play this in real
- 10:11Speaker 1: life too, if he was given the opportunity. Because man,
- 10:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you something, I was impressed by your
- 10:17Speaker 1: your where you adapted the role and also where you
- 10:19Speaker 1: fined you. You actually I could actually see you catching
- 10:22Speaker 1: a ball from Kylin Murray from Arizona Carner. I could
- 10:25Speaker 1: actually believe that. Talk about that experience. Well, for me,
- 10:29Speaker 1: it was UM. I was very adamant about doing my
- 10:32Speaker 1: own stunts for this role. I was very adamant about
- 10:36Speaker 1: having me in there as much as possible to not
- 10:40Speaker 1: only sell Um Jamison feels being that character, being that guy,
- 10:46Speaker 1: but also to you know, give myself a chance to
- 10:50Speaker 1: realize my potential. I haven't played um college football all
- 10:54Speaker 1: thee since, like you know, two thousand thirteen. But I'm
- 10:58Speaker 1: somebody who stays in shape. I'm somebody who always active.
- 11:01Speaker 1: And these are the roles that I worked for, These
- 11:04Speaker 1: are the roles that I trained so hard for. So
- 11:07Speaker 1: I was not going to let a stunt double get
- 11:10Speaker 1: in there and just you know, do all the work.
- 11:12Speaker 1: I said, put me in as much as possible and
- 11:15Speaker 1: in that environment. Honestly, honestly, I forgot I was acting.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Honestly that I was acting. It was it felt like
- 11:23Speaker 1: like being back on the field. The pressure, the nerves,
- 11:26Speaker 1: the being the star on the field, being that guy.
- 11:30Speaker 1: It was everything that I had grown accustomed to and
- 11:34Speaker 1: had experience with. So for me, it was an easy
- 11:37Speaker 1: transition just to bring all of that pressure, all the
- 11:40Speaker 1: nerves into the scene, into these moments and really show up.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Uh So it was it was I will tell you
- 11:50Speaker 1: here was a lot of work, but just cut you
- 11:53Speaker 1: off right there, because I want to let you know.
- 11:56Speaker 1: You know, I've been fortunate, you know it managed Steve Harvey,
- 11:59Speaker 1: currently managed Steve A. Smith. You know Nick Cannon, and
- 12:02Speaker 1: you know Kearvin Hard, Jamie Fox, Robert Howles and twins
- 12:05Speaker 1: Tia and Tomorrow Malray together Union. I've been around a
- 12:08Speaker 1: lot of stars, Monique, and I've been able to sit
- 12:11Speaker 1: down and coach them, motivate them. And the reality is
- 12:16Speaker 1: all tied to hard work. Every name I mentioned, they're
- 12:19Speaker 1: still successful because of hard work. And so what I
- 12:23Speaker 1: loved about what I saw was that, you know, I
- 12:26Speaker 1: see you take off. I need to see a little
- 12:27Speaker 1: skinny guy and catching the ball. I knew that was
- 12:29Speaker 1: you catching the ball. So by setting that that that standard,
- 12:34Speaker 1: the respect level on the set went up because I
- 12:38Speaker 1: could you I cann tell you right now, because I'll
- 12:40Speaker 1: remember of actors, there were actors who suddenly when I
- 12:44Speaker 1: can't do that, And so that was, you know, when
- 12:49Speaker 1: you when you're trying to step in. I remember when
- 12:51Speaker 1: Steve Harvey when we were doing this first sitcom and
- 12:53Speaker 1: namey four and that's where we that's why I met
- 12:55Speaker 1: Wendy Red. Carol Robinson, your coach, carved the show, gave it.
- 12:58Speaker 1: She came in as a love interest way back then
- 13:01Speaker 1: in ninety four ninety five, and you know it was
- 13:04Speaker 1: it was, you know, a lot of a lot of
- 13:06Speaker 1: people giving Steve flat because he was a comedian. Suddenly
- 13:09Speaker 1: he was giving a star and roll in the sitcom
- 13:11Speaker 1: and people talk about he can't act, he can't act.
- 13:13Speaker 1: While he getting the role. Okay, when he stepped out there,
- 13:16Speaker 1: then everybody shut up, Oh he can't at Oh I'm sorry,
- 13:20Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Sometimes you got the only way to prove people,
- 13:23Speaker 1: the only way to prove things that people are just
- 13:24Speaker 1: by showing up and do the work right. And so
- 13:26Speaker 1: with that being said, and I'm very complimentary about that
- 13:29Speaker 1: because of the fact that you know a lot of
- 13:31Speaker 1: people they say they want to dream, they want it,
- 13:34Speaker 1: but then again they don't want to show up and
- 13:36Speaker 1: put the work out and to work in because, like
- 13:38Speaker 1: you said, you you were a hand raising. I always
- 13:40Speaker 1: tell people being a hand raiser just because that's not
- 13:43Speaker 1: because a lot of people said, well they don't pay
- 13:45Speaker 1: me to do that. Well you did a hand raise.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Look I want to do that, and that in turn
- 13:50Speaker 1: gives me more respect. And I kid you not man
- 13:53Speaker 1: your career. Once people see this series more and more
- 13:57Speaker 1: than all your body of work. Brother, you you're gonna
- 13:59Speaker 1: be working for a long time on Thank you. I
- 14:02Speaker 1: really appreciate it. Thank you so much. You're gonna be
- 14:06Speaker 1: working for a long time because of the fact that
- 14:08Speaker 1: you know, the credibility that you gave me, and you
- 14:12Speaker 1: know the fact that you know I know we was
- 14:14Speaker 1: up to. It was like a couple of times he
- 14:16Speaker 1: was supposed to interview and we gotta breach carees us
- 14:18Speaker 1: and no, no, no, whatever, he whatever his scared. I
- 14:20Speaker 1: want to interview him because I really enjoy you and
- 14:23Speaker 1: I love meeting young talent like you because that's my job.
- 14:27Speaker 1: My job is to meet people like you've all and
- 14:29Speaker 1: then tell you how special you are let you know
- 14:32Speaker 1: state of course and longevity. We party your game. And
- 14:36Speaker 1: that's why I mentioned Wendy Rickara Robinson when I made
- 14:39Speaker 1: her name. Four Queen dude acting every year, right, every year,
- 14:46Speaker 1: every year, and she just sus an example for us,
- 14:50Speaker 1: like she is literally the queen on set, the example
- 14:55Speaker 1: that she sets, the work ethic that she has to
- 14:57Speaker 1: her leadership skills, her her motherly but also like tough
- 15:02Speaker 1: love skills. Like she she is such a prime example
- 15:05Speaker 1: of somebody who has paved away for other people to
- 15:09Speaker 1: get to that same level, and she does it consistently
- 15:11Speaker 1: with her hard work. We will be right back with
- 15:13Speaker 1: more money making conversation with Rashwan McDonald. It's finally here,
- 15:18Speaker 1: the season of celebration. And no matter how you celebrate
- 15:21Speaker 1: with family and friends, whether you're preparing for Reis Magos
- 15:25Speaker 1: or Karamu lighting the Manura, are going to midnight mass,
- 15:29Speaker 1: Coals has just what you need to make those traditions special.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Plus you'll find gifts for all your loved ones. Send
- 15:36Speaker 1: warm wishes with Cozy Fleece's sweaters, loungeware, blankets and throws.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Support minority owned or founded brands by giving gifts from
- 15:44Speaker 1: human nation and shame, moisture, or treat them to everyone's
- 15:47Speaker 1: favorite active wear from top brands like Nike, Adidas, and
- 15:51Speaker 1: under Armour. And in the spirit of giving, Coals Cares
- 15:55Speaker 1: is donating eight million dollars to local nonprofits nationwide committed
- 15:59Speaker 1: to the health and well being of our communities. No

- 16:05Speaker 1: right where you belong. So this season, give with all
- 16:08Speaker 1: your heart with great gifts from Coals or Coals dot com.

- 16:17Speaker 1: grows in the forest. Our imagination, our sense of wonder,
- 16:20Speaker 1: and our family bonds grow too, because when we disconnect
- 16:24Speaker 1: from this and connect with this, we reconnect with each other.
- 16:31Speaker 1: The forest is closer than you think. Find a forest
- 16:34Speaker 1: near you and start exploring. I Discover the Forest dot

- 16:44Speaker 1: see the true magic of a forest. It's a storybook
- 16:48Speaker 1: world for them. You look and see a tree. They
- 16:51Speaker 1: see the wrinkled face of a wizard with arms outstretched
- 16:54Speaker 1: to the sky. They see treasure in pebbles, They see
- 16:58Speaker 1: a windy path that could lead to ad in check
- 17:00Speaker 1: and they see you, they're fearless. Guide. Is this fascinating world?

- 17:15Speaker 1: money making conversation with Rashan McDonald. Now let's let's let's
- 17:18Speaker 1: go to my favorite show. When I first saw you
- 17:20Speaker 1: all The Oval, The Oval. Okay, let's let's talk about
- 17:25Speaker 1: was that your first that's Tyler Paris The Oval, which
- 17:28Speaker 1: is very popular, one of the most popular shows on
- 17:30Speaker 1: bt UM. I met this, I saw I ever met
- 17:33Speaker 1: this year. I saw him. That's when he came into
- 17:35Speaker 1: my life. I'm I'm a fan of The Oval. And
- 17:38Speaker 1: he played this son, you know, his wife he had,
- 17:42Speaker 1: he had a child and then she goes she got
- 17:44Speaker 1: caught up into this coat just cause you don't know
- 17:46Speaker 1: the back store and then he had a little he
- 17:50Speaker 1: had an affair on the side. You know, his characters
- 17:52Speaker 1: all best stuff yall. You know, he was kind of
- 17:57Speaker 1: selling drugs, but he wasn't selling. He was Let's talk
- 18:01Speaker 1: about that relationship with Tyler Perry. How did this start
- 18:04Speaker 1: before we started having fun with the Oval because it
- 18:06Speaker 1: was a fun character because it was over the time. Well, um,
- 18:09Speaker 1: interestingly enough, you know, Tyler, he actually saw me on
- 18:13Speaker 1: a comedy spook that I did for the Zuus Network
- 18:17Speaker 1: and um, he saw that and it was that was
- 18:20Speaker 1: all improv. That was it was scripted, but it was
- 18:22Speaker 1: basically all improv and it was just like a comedy
- 18:25Speaker 1: fun thing. Um. And it was on YouTube and then
- 18:27Speaker 1: on Zeus Network, and he saw it because a couple
- 18:30Speaker 1: of people in the play that he did on his
- 18:32Speaker 1: last tour. I mentioned it to him and so he
- 18:35Speaker 1: eventually called me up right directly called my phone, and
- 18:40Speaker 1: uh he was like, ving Heaven, Tyler Perry here, you know,
- 18:43Speaker 1: I want to talk to you. And that's right, and
- 18:46Speaker 1: so um, you know I'm literally in my bedroom having
- 18:50Speaker 1: a conversation with Tyler Perry on the phone. And he
- 18:53Speaker 1: just then, Okay, I remember when all Shiny Hall called me.
- 18:57Speaker 1: I was driving in l A, okay, and this is
- 19:00Speaker 1: him when he was a city or Hall. Okay, and uh,
- 19:04Speaker 1: I went, okay, I actually hung up on that's to
- 19:07Speaker 1: do stop this, stop to stop, stop stop playing with me,
- 19:09Speaker 1: and I hug up the phone on he come Hey man,
- 19:11Speaker 1: this is just really or senior Okay, that's okay, cool.
- 19:14Speaker 1: And you know those moments, man, when people at that
- 19:19Speaker 1: statue and believe me, Tyler Perry way bigger than our
- 19:22Speaker 1: senior Hall. So that's why I gotta slow him down. See,
- 19:25Speaker 1: people like Vaughn, they missed the moment because it happened.
- 19:29Speaker 1: But she it's a blessing because Tyler does this all
- 19:32Speaker 1: the time. And I laughed with him because he had
- 19:34Speaker 1: called people up and had these regular conversations. And then
- 19:37Speaker 1: on the other end of the phone, they're hard jumping
- 19:39Speaker 1: out their chests, they mind screaming. I can't believe this.
- 19:42Speaker 1: They're trying to go where it's just gonna go with offer.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I made it. Talk about that emotion, Vaughn. When Tyler
- 19:49Speaker 1: Perry called you, you broke the reality that it was
- 19:53Speaker 1: Tyler Perry, and then you broke down into this casual
- 19:56Speaker 1: conversation you're talking about, right right. I mean, first of all, right,
- 20:01Speaker 1: so first of all, I got it heads up that
- 20:03Speaker 1: Tyler has spotted me. You know, one of the gas
- 20:06Speaker 1: makes text me and say, hey, um, Tyler asked about you.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I gave him your number. I hope that's okay. And
- 20:12Speaker 1: I'm right, of course that's okay. But you know, you know,
- 20:15Speaker 1: when you when you hear stuff like that, you're thinking,
- 20:19Speaker 1: this may or may not turn into something. He's not
- 20:21Speaker 1: gonna he's not He's for sure not directly gonna contact me.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And if anybody ever contacts me on behalf of him,
- 20:29Speaker 1: it's gonna be six months from now and years and
- 20:31Speaker 1: now or whatever. And so it was literally two minutes
- 20:34Speaker 1: later that I see a four or four number pop up,
- 20:38Speaker 1: and I'm like, this can't be him. And as soon
- 20:41Speaker 1: as I answered the phone, I know his voice. I
- 20:44Speaker 1: knew his voice, and I'm stuttering, um um, I'm thinking
- 20:51Speaker 1: there is no possible way that he's calling me. And
- 20:55Speaker 1: I know he's calling me. I'm know I'm talking to him,
- 20:57Speaker 1: but this is not real, this is not happening. This
- 21:01Speaker 1: is surreal, um. And I'm just I'm listening. I'm feeling
- 21:09Speaker 1: my head right like, what are you doing? What is
- 21:13Speaker 1: what is going on right now? I can't be having
- 21:15Speaker 1: a conversation with this man after two years of being
- 21:18Speaker 1: in l A, moving here for this is that reason,
- 21:21Speaker 1: and he's he's now talking to me about acting. It's
- 21:28Speaker 1: it's one of those things where you never forget the feeling.
- 21:31Speaker 1: But it's like it's so hard to describe because, uh,
- 21:36Speaker 1: influx of emotions and you're just all of a sudden,
- 21:41Speaker 1: universe just opens up. I can't believe it is right.
- 21:44Speaker 1: And so now the how did they all the opportunity
- 21:47Speaker 1: for The Oval come about? What did he call you
- 21:49Speaker 1: directly for the The Oval series? He had a character
- 21:52Speaker 1: and mindful. You had the audition for other characters. So
- 21:56Speaker 1: he had the character and mind for me after he
- 21:58Speaker 1: saw me. After he saw me, you know, we talked
- 22:01Speaker 1: a little bit um introductions and things like that and um,
- 22:06Speaker 1: and so that he started talking about the show that
- 22:09Speaker 1: he saw him before. He said, I see you do
- 22:10Speaker 1: comedy very well. I'm curious if you are a druma actor.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And I said, I can't be. I cannot be whatever.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Uh he said, well, I'm coming out with this new
- 22:24Speaker 1: show right now, and you are you are perfect for
- 22:27Speaker 1: this character named Barry, uh, that I that I have
- 22:30Speaker 1: on the show. Would you be interested? You know, I
- 22:37Speaker 1: gotta play it all. I got pay it up. Yeah,
- 22:39Speaker 1: you know, tell me about a little bit side some side,
- 22:45Speaker 1: so read to check out the line. Make sure you
- 22:47Speaker 1: get my character. You know you know, because I could
- 22:51Speaker 1: be you know, I gonna be interested into it. You know,
- 22:52Speaker 1: let let me hear about the character a little bit, Tyler,
- 22:54Speaker 1: let me hear about the character. Yeah, oh yeah, I
- 22:59Speaker 1: was really be interested in auditioning for this right And
- 23:03Speaker 1: we're just having a conversation man about the character about
- 23:05Speaker 1: the show, because he had been working on it for
- 23:08Speaker 1: about two years before he and they were actually in
- 23:11Speaker 1: the final stages of casting by the time he got
- 23:13Speaker 1: to me. Um, So it happened very fast for me.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Other people they've been you know, in line with it
- 23:19Speaker 1: for a while. Now the now the character man over
- 23:24Speaker 1: the top, man, he hothead. Uh you know, man got
- 23:32Speaker 1: a got a child, he got an extramarital or fair
- 23:36Speaker 1: Uh what did you when you start seeing that the
- 23:38Speaker 1: character descriptions start reading a lot. This is just fun talk,
- 23:41Speaker 1: you know, there's no you know, because the series is
- 23:44Speaker 1: over the top and it's fun and it's just outrageous.
- 23:49Speaker 1: But when did when did you realize this is there's
- 23:51Speaker 1: a line between comedy and drama d t you know,
- 23:54Speaker 1: because of your your character, because it was so over
- 23:57Speaker 1: the top and and you kept making them the stage
- 24:00Speaker 1: and you kept wanting people feel sorry for you, you
- 24:02Speaker 1: kept second chances and but you when you drove that
- 24:06Speaker 1: car through that drug store, I went, he had lost
- 24:08Speaker 1: his mind. Up, Pops got shot right. You know? For me,
- 24:15Speaker 1: it was it was a definitely it was definitely a
- 24:17Speaker 1: learning experience because, um, I I had an interesting time
- 24:24Speaker 1: with trying to make all this real because ever since
- 24:28Speaker 1: the first episode with Barry, you know, he got accused
- 24:31Speaker 1: of rape with the with the with the president's daughter daughter,
- 24:35Speaker 1: was kidnapped by a cult leader. Um, he accidentally shot somebody,
- 24:41Speaker 1: his girlfriend's cheating on him, and I'm just like, one
- 24:46Speaker 1: thing after another another. I have to I'm trying to
- 24:49Speaker 1: I'm trying to ground it, Tyler, I'm trying to ground it.
- 24:51Speaker 1: And he's just like, you just gotta go for it,
- 24:55Speaker 1: go for it, like Ruth. He said, lose your mind mine.
- 25:00Speaker 1: So you are trying to make all this work makes sense,
- 25:02Speaker 1: you know exactly? He said, you can't make sense of it.
- 25:05Speaker 1: He literally said, you can't make sense of it, just
- 25:07Speaker 1: lose your mind. And so after that point, at that point,
- 25:11Speaker 1: I just became a little monster. Man. I just I
- 25:15Speaker 1: love it first of all, and there's no there's no
- 25:17Speaker 1: character description of Barry. When I got the audition. There
- 25:20Speaker 1: was no character description of it besides Butler's son, right right.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I forgot the fact that the President's dog did a
- 25:26Speaker 1: keeps your rape. That was the first. That was the
- 25:28Speaker 1: first thing that went wrong in your life. And then
- 25:30Speaker 1: it just it just kept just rolling down here after that, man,
- 25:35Speaker 1: So it was it's something I couldn't make sense of
- 25:38Speaker 1: it one he once he told me that. Then it
- 25:40Speaker 1: was just you know, you're on green light. You just
- 25:42Speaker 1: go a hunting my spotle from that one before we go,
- 25:44Speaker 1: I want to talk about a couple of the projects
- 25:46Speaker 1: that you have coming up, man, because I want to.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I don't want to limit the fact that you know,
- 25:50Speaker 1: I'm a big fan of Oval, and that's why I
- 25:51Speaker 1: discovered you as a fan. I became a fan through
- 25:54Speaker 1: that that portal and then you're on the start in
- 25:57Speaker 1: the game. But Keen Richards in the theaters right now
- 26:00Speaker 1: read an article on uh you know, because it premiered
- 26:03Speaker 1: on HBO Max and then they said people a hundred
- 26:07Speaker 1: percent of the people watched the movie watched it all
- 26:09Speaker 1: the way through, which is a testament to a quality
- 26:13Speaker 1: of the movie, because usual people just pop off. You
- 26:15Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, the hundred. If you whoever started
- 26:18Speaker 1: watching that movie completed that movie, talk about that, and
- 26:21Speaker 1: then we're gonna slide over to the movie you're doing
- 26:23Speaker 1: with on my ELPs and mikea Els coming out next
- 26:26Speaker 1: year in two Yes, sir, yes, sir. So you know,
- 26:29Speaker 1: first of all, this was my first uh big movie role, um,
- 26:35Speaker 1: and it was an opportunity to work with Will and
- 26:39Speaker 1: there's there's several people in that cast that I've always
- 26:41Speaker 1: been fans of, and so for me, it was just
- 26:46Speaker 1: it was another surreal moment, you know, my first movie,
- 26:50Speaker 1: to be able to watch Will Smith, to learn from
- 26:54Speaker 1: him offset on set, and just um being that environment
- 26:58Speaker 1: and being a space that I on to, you know,
- 27:01Speaker 1: um aspired to one day. It was it was just
- 27:04Speaker 1: nothing but a blessing. And I was watching his work,
- 27:07Speaker 1: and I was watching what we were creating on the
- 27:10Speaker 1: movie set, and I just knew it was gonna be
- 27:11Speaker 1: something that was special. I knew it was gonna be
- 27:13Speaker 1: something that was gonna touch people's hearts, that was gonna
- 27:15Speaker 1: be a family movie that everybody that anybody can relate to.
- 27:20Speaker 1: And and I'm honestly, I'm just blessed to be a
- 27:23Speaker 1: part of it. It was a learning experience for me.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I was working on it, but I was I'm I'm
- 27:28Speaker 1: a fan of it, you know. I'm not just like, yeah,
- 27:31Speaker 1: I did it. I'm like, yo, we did something great.
- 27:34Speaker 1: They did something, they created something awesome, and I'm just
- 27:37Speaker 1: glad I could have been a part of it. And
- 27:39Speaker 1: then we're gonna shift gears and go over to the
- 27:41Speaker 1: starting opposite. All my ELPs loan career, another brother with
- 27:44Speaker 1: a loan career. All went back with him and Juice
- 27:47Speaker 1: when he was with Tupac. And then Michael Eally, you know,
- 27:50Speaker 1: he did the movie for me with Think Like a Man.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Think Like a Man, too, Kevin. That was my project.
- 27:54Speaker 1: I was executive producer. So that's what Michael Eally and
- 27:56Speaker 1: I developed our relationship. And the movie was entitled The Boot.
- 28:00Speaker 1: He's entitled The Devil. You know. Yep uh. It's It's
- 28:03Speaker 1: funny because Michael Eally I met him in two thousand
- 28:06Speaker 1: and seventeen when I first started acting, and I was
- 28:09Speaker 1: doing background at the time, and I walked up straight
- 28:12Speaker 1: to him. He was doing background of we were doing
- 28:14Speaker 1: but I was doing background of being being Mary Jane,
- 28:18Speaker 1: and I walked you up to him. I introduced myself
- 28:20Speaker 1: and I sound's gonna be working with you one day.
- 28:22Speaker 1: And so uh, four years later we're on set together
- 28:26Speaker 1: and the w you know, Ohmar Epps, I mean, he's
- 28:29Speaker 1: he's a beast. I learned so much from watching watching him,
- 28:33Speaker 1: working with him. I'm the youngest of four brothers in
- 28:36Speaker 1: that movie. He's like the third oldest and so playing
- 28:39Speaker 1: younger brother to somebody that you've been watching your whole life, um,
- 28:44Speaker 1: and being able to go back and forth with them,
- 28:46Speaker 1: like have conversation, have this camaraderie. I again, man, just
- 28:52Speaker 1: another moment that I was blessed with that I um,
- 28:57Speaker 1: I really appreciate. I'm glad I was able to sneak
- 29:00Speaker 1: up in that thing and do my and do and
- 29:02Speaker 1: and hold my own. You know, it's all learning experience
- 29:05Speaker 1: for me. It's all a growing experience for me, and
- 29:10Speaker 1: I'm just glad that I'm able to do it at
- 29:11Speaker 1: a level with some people who I really admire. Well,
- 29:14Speaker 1: you know, I've I've done over a thousand shows Baing
- 29:19Speaker 1: and my staff. No, I get excited for very few people.
- 29:22Speaker 1: You wanted the people I was excited too to meet
- 29:26Speaker 1: through my conversations. Your star brother, you got You got
- 29:30Speaker 1: a long career, don't stop, just keep working hard. Uh,
- 29:34Speaker 1: you know, God is good, but it's good to even
- 29:37Speaker 1: people understand the value of opportunity. It worked hard for
- 29:41Speaker 1: you're seeing yourself through. You're not being afraid by uncertainty.
- 29:45Speaker 1: That stops a lot of people. But my man, I'm
- 29:48Speaker 1: just happy that I finally got the interview bone. I'm
- 29:51Speaker 1: sorry it took so long. I'm happy that I was
- 29:53Speaker 1: able to do it, and it's been a blessing having
- 29:57Speaker 1: like just being here with you, talking to you because
- 29:59Speaker 1: you're a legend in your old Thank you for real.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Like I was like, no, we gotta make this happen.
