- 0:00Mark chapter 1, the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the
- 0:04Son of God, as it is written in Isaiah the prophet.
- 0:07Behold, I send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare
- 0:10your way. The voice of one crying in the
- 0:12wilderness, Make ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths
- 0:16straight. John the Baptist appeared in the
- 0:18wilderness preaching a baptism of repentance for the
- 0:21forgiveness of sins. And all the country of Judea was
- 0:25going out to him, and all the people of Jerusalem they were
- 0:28being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their
- 0:31sins. John was clothed with camel's
- 0:34hair and wore a leather belt around his waist, and his diet
- 0:37was locust and wild honey. And he was preaching and saying,
- 0:41After me, one is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not
- 0:44fit to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals.
- 0:48I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy
- 0:51Spirit. In those days Jesus came from
- 0:54Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
- 0:58Immediately coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens
- 1:00opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him, and a
- 1:04voice came out of the heavens. You are my beloved Son.
- 1:08In you I am well pleased. Immediately the Spirit impelled
- 1:11him to go out into the wilderness, but he was in the
- 1:14wilderness 40 days, being tempted by Satan, and he was
- 1:18with the wild beasts, and the angels were ministering to him.
- 1:21Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into
- 1:24Galilee preaching the Gospel of God and saying, The time is
- 1:28fulfilled and the Kingdom of God is at hand, Repent and believe
- 1:31in the Gospel. As he was going along by the Sea
- 1:34of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon,
- 1:37casting a net in the sea, for they were fishermen.
- 1:40And Jesus said to them, Follow me, and I will make you become
- 1:43fishers of men. Immediately they left their Nets
- 1:46and followed him. Going on a little farther, he
- 1:48saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were
- 1:52also in the boat mending their Nets.
- 1:54Immediately He called them, and they left their father's Zebedee
- 1:57in the boat with the hired servants and went away to follow
- 2:00him. They went into Capernaum, and
- 2:02immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and began
- 2:05to teach. They were amazed at His
- 2:07teaching, for He was teaching them as one having authority and
- 2:10not as the scribes. Just then there was a man in
- 2:13their synagogue with an unclean spirit, and he cried out,
- 2:16saying, What business do we have with each other?
- 2:18Jesus of Nazareth, have you come to destroy us?
- 2:22I know who you are, the Holy One of God.
- 2:25And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be quiet and come out of him,
- 2:29throwing him into convulsions. The unclean spirit cried out
- 2:31with a loud voice and came out of him.
- 2:34They were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves,
- 2:38saying, What is this? A new teaching?
- 2:40With authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they
- 2:44obey Him. Immediately the news about Him
- 2:47spread everywhere into all the surrounding district of Galilee.
- 2:50And immediately after they came out of the synagogue, they came
- 2:53into the House of Simon and Andrew with James and John.
- 2:57Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever, and
- 3:00immediately they spoke to Jesus about her, and he came to her
- 3:03and raised her up, taking her by the hand, and the fever left
- 3:07her, and she waited on them. When evening came, after the sun
- 3:10had set, they began bringing to him all who were ill and those
- 3:14who were demon possessed. And the whole city had gathered
- 3:17at the door. And He healed many who were I'll
- 3:19with various diseases and cast out many demons.
- 3:22And he was not permitting the demons to speak, because they
- 3:25knew who he was. In the early morning, while it
- 3:28was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to
- 3:31a secluded place and was praying there.
- 3:34Simon and his companions searched for him.
- 3:37They found him and said to him, Everyone is looking for you.
- 3:40He said to them, Let us go somewhere else, to the towns
- 3:42nearby, so that I may preach there also, for that is what I
- 3:46came for. And he went into their
- 3:48synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting
- 3:51out the demons. And a leper came to Jesus,
- 3:54beseeching him, and falling on his knees before him, and
- 3:56saying, If you are willing, you can make me clean.
- 4:00Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out his hand and
- 4:03touched him, and said to him, I am willing be cleansed.
- 4:07Immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.
- 4:10And he sternly warned him, and immediately sent him away.
- 4:13And he said to him, See that you say nothing to anyone, but go
- 4:17show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what
- 4:20Moses commanded as a testimony to them.
- 4:23But he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread
- 4:26the news around to such an extent that Jesus could no
- 4:29longer publicly enter a city, but stayed out in unpopulated
- 4:33areas. And they were coming to him from
- 4:35everywhere.
