- 0:07Speaker 1: has the secrets of success experience firsthand by Marketing and
- 0:10Speaker 1: Brandon expert Rashan McDonald. I will know he's giving me
- 0:13Speaker 1: advice on many occasions. In incase you didn't notice, I'm
- 0:16Speaker 1: not broke. You know, he'll be interview with celebrity CEOs,
- 0:19Speaker 1: entrepreneurs and industry decision makers. It's what he likes to do,
- 0:22Speaker 1: it's what he likes to ship. Now it's time to
- 0:25Speaker 1: hear from my man Rashan McDonald money Making Conversations. Here
- 0:29Speaker 1: we come, absolutely my man Rushan McDonald Money Main Conversations. Wow.
- 0:34Speaker 1: You know when I do this show, it really makes
- 0:36Speaker 1: me feel good because I'm actually delivering the information to
- 0:39Speaker 1: people that I feel they need to hear. Not only
- 0:41Speaker 1: are only a daily basis, but at least be a
- 0:44Speaker 1: part of the d n A if you want to
- 0:45Speaker 1: get into learning that about how to be successful, how
- 0:49Speaker 1: to the highs and lows of being successful? Um from
- 0:53Speaker 1: just not just from an entrepreneur standpoint, just from a
- 0:55Speaker 1: life standpoint. Because these stories that we talked about, we
- 1:00Speaker 1: go to my days in college. I would tell people
- 1:02Speaker 1: the things I learned in college, those early years, and
- 1:06Speaker 1: and what I'm doing dealing with now is what I
- 1:09Speaker 1: what I learned when I was in college. I'm just
- 1:11Speaker 1: I'm just living my dream that uh was was taught
- 1:14Speaker 1: to me in such an early early life and when
- 1:18Speaker 1: somehow along the way with most people is that when
- 1:20Speaker 1: you when you're traveling through life, you get off that
- 1:23Speaker 1: path because so many other things that are getting their way,
- 1:26Speaker 1: could be a relationship, could be kids, could be a
- 1:29Speaker 1: job transferred, moving out of state. If this wasn't your
- 1:32Speaker 1: original dream, get back to the original dream, get back
- 1:35Speaker 1: the dream that you care we're use in college, that
- 1:37Speaker 1: you wanted to be great, that you wanted to be special,
- 1:39Speaker 1: that you wanted to be unique, because it is still there.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Do not let age stop you from being successful. You
- 1:46Speaker 1: can be successful. Fifty you can be successful, sixty you
- 1:48Speaker 1: can be successful. You could be successful until you die.
- 1:51Speaker 1: You can make an impact on life. And so many
- 1:53Speaker 1: people put limitations, especially on age in the era that
- 1:58Speaker 1: we live in now. Age is not a restriction. It
- 2:02Speaker 1: is not a limitation. It is not it doesn't it's
- 2:06Speaker 1: just stop you at all my next days. She's one
- 2:09Speaker 1: of my favorite people in the world of sports personalities. Say,
- 2:13Speaker 1: I'm would say that, Sam, I'm saying. Have y'all ever
- 2:15Speaker 1: heard me say that? Okay? I think so. She in
- 2:19Speaker 1: her seventh season as an analyst, host and reporter for ESPN.
- 2:25Speaker 1: She juggles ESPN College game day duties, sideline reporting though
- 2:28Speaker 1: college game days, and nights where I host an NBA countdown.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Please welcome to money making conversations. But girl, Maria Taylor,
- 2:37Speaker 1: thanks so much for having me on. So it's good
- 2:39Speaker 1: to be talking to you again. Well, you know, it's
- 2:40Speaker 1: it's You're always amazing that you know, it's the beauty
- 2:43Speaker 1: of less that we talked you was you was there,
- 2:46Speaker 1: was the doing the finally was doing the championship period
- 2:49Speaker 1: for the women's Uh. I remember talking to you and
- 2:53Speaker 1: I was literally in a tunnel. I'm been at a
- 2:55Speaker 1: men's basketball get maybe then I think I was in Brooklyn, Yes,
- 3:00Speaker 1: and I literally was talking to you, and it's like
- 3:02Speaker 1: coach k Is going by, that goes Roy Williams, and
- 3:07Speaker 1: I'm like hiding behind where the characters get dressed or
- 3:10Speaker 1: all the mascots get dressed. That's right, but you're not you.
- 3:15Speaker 1: You may hide, but people know who you are nowadays.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Is let's let's talk about that. You know you you
- 3:21Speaker 1: you went to University of Georgia. You as an athlete, Um,
- 3:25Speaker 1: you volleyball player, basketball player? Correct and uh so so
- 3:31Speaker 1: much as she was all SEC volleyball player, uh with
- 3:36Speaker 1: three times she was all SEC remember things, my girl
- 3:41Speaker 1: here and so so I mean that you you, So
- 3:44Speaker 1: that's that's a drive. I think the reason I bring
- 3:46Speaker 1: it up that that that as an athlete, that that
- 3:49Speaker 1: means that you have to push yourself and you have
- 3:51Speaker 1: to be challenged and you had to especially you. You
- 3:54Speaker 1: were performing at a high level to be at all
- 3:56Speaker 1: SEC uh volleyball candidate. So how does that play that
- 4:03Speaker 1: that that that that athletics side you play into your
- 4:06Speaker 1: in this competitive world of being a sports personality. Because
- 4:09Speaker 1: really the world sports has exploded and there is a
- 4:13Speaker 1: path out there and it keeps growing every day and
- 4:16Speaker 1: you are right in the middle of it. Yeah. It's funny.
- 4:19Speaker 1: When I was in school, Um, I told my professors, Hey,
- 4:23Speaker 1: I want to work in sports broadcast and they're like, great,
- 4:25Speaker 1: you'll never make any money and you'll never get a job.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It's like doesn't exist. And now the University of Georgia
- 4:29Speaker 1: has a sports journalism certificate program. It will probably become
- 4:32Speaker 1: a degree, and it's just changed so much. But for me,
- 4:36Speaker 1: that's how I learned to compete was on a court,
- 4:39Speaker 1: like you're always competing against yourself, Like it wasn't even
- 4:42Speaker 1: always about the person that you're going up against. It's like,
- 4:44Speaker 1: how can I get better every single day? And I've
- 4:47Speaker 1: really been a perfectionist, but I think that evolved definitely
- 4:51Speaker 1: on the court because I always wanted to put my
- 4:53Speaker 1: best performance forward. You know, you've got your team relying
- 4:55Speaker 1: on you, um, you want to do well for your family.
- 4:58Speaker 1: But ultimately, for me, I wouldn't be able to sleep
- 5:01Speaker 1: at night if I felt like I didn't play my best,
- 5:03Speaker 1: or I would want to go back to the court
- 5:04Speaker 1: in practice again, or I wanted to talk to my
- 5:06Speaker 1: coach and figure out, Okay, how do we fix whatever
- 5:08Speaker 1: I think is wrong with my volleyball sling or my
- 5:11Speaker 1: shot if I was playing basketball. So that's something that
- 5:14Speaker 1: kind of drove me in and I don't I think
- 5:16Speaker 1: it's kind of imparted that in my personality now, where
- 5:18Speaker 1: I'm never satisfied with my last performance or I'm always
- 5:21Speaker 1: picking a part of the things I'd be wrong to
- 5:23Speaker 1: the point where my mom is like, you don't even
- 5:25Speaker 1: watch yourself like she She's like, you can be mad
- 5:29Speaker 1: for twenty four hours, but that's it, Like you're moving on.
- 5:32Speaker 1: You didn't like whatever you said. And she's like, and
- 5:34Speaker 1: by the way, I didn't notice. No one notices ever.
- 5:36Speaker 1: There you go. I love your mom really because I
- 5:39Speaker 1: have a daughter and I had to tell her that,
- 5:40Speaker 1: you know, And because she was competitive, she was a
- 5:43Speaker 1: she's a tennis prodigy, and then she blew out a
- 5:45Speaker 1: knee and now she's doing well in college and I'm
- 5:47Speaker 1: happy for her. And it's when you let let me,
- 5:49Speaker 1: let me point out some things about her recently, when
- 5:51Speaker 1: I said her, I mean Maria Taylor. Seventeen, Taylor became
- 5:54Speaker 1: the first black female to co host College Game Day
- 5:57Speaker 1: built by the Home Depot, which is huge by the way.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Taylor was also dubbed as a sideline reporter for ABC
- 6:03Speaker 1: Saturday Night Football and patrol the sidelines for the College
- 6:07Speaker 1: Football Playoff and National Championship Game Mirror. Taylor's named host
- 6:11Speaker 1: of NBA Countdown ESPN and ABC's long standing NBA pregame
- 6:15Speaker 1: show October of this year. She also have a significant
- 6:20Speaker 1: role host in NBA playoff editions of NBA countdown across
- 6:24Speaker 1: ESPN networks. We're gonna, We're gonna. I want to get
- 6:27Speaker 1: that out because she is uniquely I know, I when
- 6:34Speaker 1: I when I look at Maria, I'm for some reason,
- 6:37Speaker 1: people always I just gather information. My staff always going
- 6:39Speaker 1: why you just you just gather information, just stays in
- 6:41Speaker 1: your head. I just started watching her when she used
- 6:44Speaker 1: to do late night packed ten games, so if you
- 6:49Speaker 1: weren't up, you didn't see her. And I just always
- 6:51Speaker 1: just a little just like I would say the words
- 6:55Speaker 1: of the skinny young of the young lady won't the screen,
- 6:58Speaker 1: but she was just stood out. She just so gifted.
- 7:01Speaker 1: And I went and I remember told that girl right there,
- 7:04Speaker 1: it's going to be a star. She's going said, I
- 7:05Speaker 1: just know she's going to be a star. But you
- 7:08Speaker 1: have you have you have an ability be real that
- 7:11Speaker 1: that a lot of people can say that that people
- 7:14Speaker 1: out there that look good at people like they're tall,
- 7:16Speaker 1: they are people out there played the sport. But you're
- 7:18Speaker 1: naturally gifted and translating the story on the spot, whether
- 7:23Speaker 1: it's at the NBA Draft when you when you I've
- 7:26Speaker 1: watched you interview those players who were drafted in the
- 7:28Speaker 1: first round. How you pull their stories from each one?
- 7:32Speaker 1: It was, it was just amazing. Tell us about that.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Can you explain that gift? Though you? Can you talk
- 7:37Speaker 1: about that talent? Did you naturally have? It's so interesting
- 7:42Speaker 1: because I mean I hear that, but I don't know
- 7:44Speaker 1: that I recognize it or see it. Like to me,
- 7:47Speaker 1: it is in a lot of ways second nature. It's
- 7:49Speaker 1: like it's just wanting it. There's a curiosity there. I
- 7:52Speaker 1: think I remember UM hearing people talked about and Robin
- 7:56Speaker 1: Roberts says it all the time. It's like, if you're
- 7:58Speaker 1: a naturally curious person, then you're going to constantly be
- 8:01Speaker 1: asking people about their selves, wanting to know more, wanting
- 8:04Speaker 1: to know why. And I think that's how I've always been.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Your Winning Age Leadership Academy is a nonprofit organization that
- 8:10Speaker 1: you have developed to help student athletes with programs event
- 8:14Speaker 1: through a winning age uh thought process. Talk to us
- 8:17Speaker 1: about that, Yeah, Winning Age Leadership Academy and we developed
- 8:22Speaker 1: it UM in fifteen was our first year having a
- 8:25Speaker 1: full CoA. But I know you're not doing it boy yourself.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Will you say we who is who are we saying? We? Uh?
- 8:32Speaker 1: Myself and Crane Millions. She's a co founder. We've both
- 8:36Speaker 1: worked at ESPN at the time, so she was working
- 8:38Speaker 1: at ESPN events and I was working with SEC Network
- 8:40Speaker 1: in Charlotte and we just kind of kept looking around
- 8:42Speaker 1: the room. But we were like, we are the only
- 8:44Speaker 1: minorities and we don't want people of color women. How
- 8:48Speaker 1: do we get more of minorities into the door working
- 8:51Speaker 1: in sports? And so we started this academy where we
- 8:54Speaker 1: helped women and ethnic minorities and basically it's a mentoring
- 8:57Speaker 1: program where we're not only partnering you with the mentor,
- 9:01Speaker 1: but we have retreats, like with the last two years,
- 9:04Speaker 1: we've had them in Miami and Atlanta where student athletes
- 9:07Speaker 1: can come because they don't have much time to go
- 9:09Speaker 1: do internships and stuff like that, so we have a
- 9:11Speaker 1: four day experience for them mentor they're there. We took
- 9:14Speaker 1: them to Turner, we took them to the Braves, we
- 9:17Speaker 1: took them to Jackson Spalding. When we were in Miami,
- 9:19Speaker 1: we had Donna Shalela, the former Miami president who's probably
- 9:22Speaker 1: going to be bringing Secretary of State again or something.
- 9:25Speaker 1: You know, they're they're interacting with people that they wouldn't
- 9:28Speaker 1: normally find themselves around, and we're teaching them how to
- 9:30Speaker 1: be comfortable in that space and network and ultimately Karine
- 9:34Speaker 1: and I have all of the opportunities that we we
- 9:37Speaker 1: talk to people, We know what the opportunities are. We
- 9:39Speaker 1: know when there's a job available at Michigan State or
- 9:41Speaker 1: over here in the NFL, and we also know the
- 9:43Speaker 1: young minorities and women that want those jobs. So we're
- 9:46Speaker 1: just trying to build the bridge. So we're working with
- 9:48Speaker 1: kids constantly on helping to job for job placement, internships,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and just talking them through once you're there, getting retained,
- 9:55Speaker 1: you know, dealing with being the only one in the room,
- 9:57Speaker 1: some of the things and the hurdles that they're going
- 9:59Speaker 1: to have to cross once they get into the sports inship.
- 10:02Speaker 1: How does one how big is that the class size
- 10:05Speaker 1: when you do it, I mean I mean students and
- 10:07Speaker 1: how do they find out about it? When we do
- 10:10Speaker 1: the retreats, we have sixteen and we have specifically done
- 10:13Speaker 1: student athletes because it's the summer and um we also
- 10:17Speaker 1: did a sum in l A and that was the
- 10:18Speaker 1: same thing. We had sixteen. But we also work with
- 10:21Speaker 1: kids just as they kind of reach out so if
- 10:24Speaker 1: we talked to a kid, we feel strongly about their
- 10:26Speaker 1: potential or they've shown us you know, okay, this kid
- 10:29Speaker 1: is really striving for success, they seem really determined, then
- 10:31Speaker 1: will help those kids too. So overall, we've probably influenced
- 10:36Speaker 1: a hundred and fifty students across the country and UM
- 10:40Speaker 1: with our actual retreats and all of our programming, we've
- 10:43Speaker 1: probably have fifty students come through and spend extended periods
- 10:47Speaker 1: of time with us. And there's the four days. M hmm.
- 10:50Speaker 1: That's awesome. So now how can I can I have
- 10:53Speaker 1: promote that for you? Can I have putting out those
- 10:55Speaker 1: social media? So when is the next when the next
- 10:58Speaker 1: one coming up? When is the next one coming up?
- 11:00Speaker 1: The next routeet we'll have We usually do it the
- 11:01Speaker 1: week after the NBA Draft. That's the week of June twenty.
- 11:07Speaker 1: We will start sending out basically like emails or you'll
- 11:10Speaker 1: see on my social media I'll be promoting it that
- 11:13Speaker 1: we're going to start taking applications. So January February is
- 11:17Speaker 1: when we start doing that. But you can log on
- 11:19Speaker 1: to the Winning Edge Leadership dot org and that's a
- 11:23Speaker 1: great way to follow us. About The about is coming.
- 11:30Speaker 1: What is the future of Maria Taylor. I wish you're
- 11:37Speaker 1: gonna be busy, young lady running for governor or something,
- 11:42Speaker 1: were you gonna get a vote. Very college coach in
- 11:44Speaker 1: the SEC, I can tell you that for Joe, they're
- 11:47Speaker 1: gonna vote for you, and they're gonna push push you
- 11:50Speaker 1: over the top. You know, I wouldn't push politics from
- 11:53Speaker 1: being a part of Europe. I feel that that you,
- 11:56Speaker 1: you know, you are a game change in Maria from
- 11:59Speaker 1: a standpoint a. You understand who you are, you understand
- 12:02Speaker 1: the role that you have to play. You give back
- 12:04Speaker 1: and and and then that's that's really important. And when
- 12:07Speaker 1: you talk about trying to be successful and trying to
- 12:11Speaker 1: understand that I am a minority, not only minority from
- 12:14Speaker 1: a person of a color, but gender as well. But
- 12:17Speaker 1: you don't let that stop you. Why Because I know
- 12:22Speaker 1: that there's some kid out there watching me that needs
- 12:24Speaker 1: to see it that if I get stopped, then that's
- 12:27Speaker 1: gonna make them believe that they can't make it. So
- 12:30Speaker 1: if every time every Saturday, a kid can turn on
- 12:32Speaker 1: their TV, a young woman or a young man and say,
- 12:34Speaker 1: you know what Maria's out there doing, and she looks
- 12:37Speaker 1: comfortable and um, people are enjoying being around her, then
- 12:41Speaker 1: I can do whatever is in front of me tomorrow.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Like that's really my hope that there's a kid somewhere
- 12:45Speaker 1: that turns on the TV. It sparked the dream or
- 12:48Speaker 1: something in them and makes them believe that really they
- 12:50Speaker 1: can't be slowed down by anything but themselves. Okay, Well,
- 12:54Speaker 1: when you do the retrieve, you do another one in Atlanta.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Last time you came by my house, my wife wasn't there,
- 12:59Speaker 1: and I will you can. You can put me down
- 13:02Speaker 1: as a dessert stop. Okay, a dessert stop, okay, because
- 13:07Speaker 1: because you came by, you know, you can sit it
- 13:09Speaker 1: back and you can fish. You know, it could be
- 13:11Speaker 1: a lot of fun. They can sit and relax and
- 13:13Speaker 1: I got a tennis corter back there, all kind of
- 13:15Speaker 1: like our opening meal. Absolutely, absolutely absolutely, I'll just let
- 13:20Speaker 1: you know, put Rashawn down because I believe in you.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I will support you. Your values are outstanding and and
- 13:27Speaker 1: keep winning because you are winning, Maria Taylor. And I
- 13:30Speaker 1: don't say that to everybody either, Okay, Okay, if you stroll,
- 13:40Speaker 1: we talked to it, okay, but it seriously put me
- 13:42Speaker 1: down for that opening dinner, Okay, Okay, thank you so much.

- 14:54Speaker 1: listening to Rashan McDonald AND's This is Money Making Conversation.
- 14:57Speaker 1: My guest, who is currently in studio, is one of
- 14:59Speaker 1: the stars in the Queen Sugar series on the Oprah
- 15:02Speaker 1: Winfrey Network. She's also recognized playwright and CEO of the
- 15:06Speaker 1: Inner Fitness Project, and she on she has on the
- 15:08Speaker 1: show that they discussed her new book, Uh, The Little
- 15:11Speaker 1: Book of Big Lives, a Journey Enter, Enter Inner Fitness.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Please welcome back to the show, Tina liftod Tina, it
- 15:18Speaker 1: was when I was reading the book, it was kind
- 15:19Speaker 1: of like I came across like you talked about the twenties, thirties,
- 15:23Speaker 1: and forties. The twenties you were assessed with figuring life out,
- 15:28Speaker 1: and the thirties was a time of wakening to the
- 15:30Speaker 1: puzzles of life. And the forties had a dream that
- 15:33Speaker 1: opened the door to a new way of seeing yourself.
- 15:37Speaker 1: That these are my take on these So if I
- 15:40Speaker 1: would like to take a moment to go back, because
- 15:43Speaker 1: we we we hit so many areas of how I
- 15:45Speaker 1: try to communicate to people who listen to this show.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I always tell people, it's not your current resume that
- 15:52Speaker 1: you should be concerned about. It should be what you
- 15:54Speaker 1: accomplish in your twenties, your thirties, and your forties because
- 15:57Speaker 1: by mastering that, accepting the VA I use, that are
- 16:00Speaker 1: the traits that come out of that, that is what
- 16:02Speaker 1: you're going to be making money on in your authorities
- 16:04Speaker 1: and fifties and sixties. That's gonna take you to I
- 16:07Speaker 1: don't even call it. I don't use the word retirement.
- 16:09Speaker 1: It will keep you through life. I think retirement as
- 16:12Speaker 1: a as a stop signed for to say you're supposed
- 16:15Speaker 1: to stop, and in life, you're not supposed to stop.
- 16:17Speaker 1: You're supposed to keep gaining energy. So when you talk
- 16:20Speaker 1: about the twenties, thursies, and forties, let's break that down
- 16:24Speaker 1: a little bit. To my listeners, well, great, and and
- 16:27Speaker 1: I love that you were talking about, you know, career
- 16:30Speaker 1: building and UM and and longevity UM. One of the
- 16:37Speaker 1: things that people don't realize is that when it comes
- 16:42Speaker 1: to living a full and balanced life, we're talking we're
- 16:49Speaker 1: talking success and happiness, right, but those are two separate
- 16:56Speaker 1: skill sets. The skill set for six sas and career
- 17:02Speaker 1: is a different skill set from happiness. People think that
- 17:07Speaker 1: if they get the career and they make the money,
- 17:10Speaker 1: that they are going to be happy. Happiness, however, is
- 17:15Speaker 1: actually a byproduct of us feeling aligned with ourselves, feeling
- 17:23Speaker 1: that we are good enough, that we um have purpose,
- 17:28Speaker 1: that we are UM on point, you know, that we
- 17:34Speaker 1: that we literally just have a sense of our um
- 17:38Speaker 1: being worthy as we are. If we don't have that,
- 17:43Speaker 1: then all the money in the world still has you
- 17:47Speaker 1: feeling like there's something missing. Correct. You know, you can
- 17:50Speaker 1: you can have the mate, you can have the kids,
- 17:54Speaker 1: you can have the money, but if you don't have yourself,
- 17:58Speaker 1: you will wake up feeling like something is missing, and
- 18:03Speaker 1: so um you know. The twenties for me, Thank goodness,
- 18:08Speaker 1: the twenties for me were full of a curiosity like,
- 18:13Speaker 1: you know, I didn't know how to I didn't know
- 18:15Speaker 1: how to make my career. So that was truly frustrating.
- 18:19Speaker 1: But I was also fortunate enough to have a circle
- 18:24Speaker 1: of friends and UH to have a place of worship
- 18:29Speaker 1: that was teaching me the importance of me connecting with me,
- 18:35Speaker 1: you know, and me connect connecting with me. Over over time,
- 18:40Speaker 1: I came to distill that into one being able to
- 18:47Speaker 1: UM acknowledge the things that have taken place, you know
- 18:53Speaker 1: truly well. First you have to become aware that there's
- 18:58Speaker 1: an inner you and that you have to take care
- 19:01Speaker 1: of that person in addition to whatever your external aims are.
- 19:09Speaker 1: And once you are aware that there's an inner you,
- 19:14Speaker 1: now you have to acknowledge who you are and what
- 19:18Speaker 1: you do. You know when you say, when you can
- 19:21Speaker 1: say uh, from your awareness, uh, I do this, or ah,
- 19:27Speaker 1: this happened to me and this is how it made
- 19:32Speaker 1: me feel, and these are the conclusions I drew based
- 19:38Speaker 1: upon what happened to me. When we can be honest
- 19:42Speaker 1: about that, then those those past experiences aren't held inside
- 19:50Speaker 1: of us in what I call an emotional loop. When
- 19:56Speaker 1: we don't acknowledge what happened to us and how it
- 20:00Speaker 1: made us feel, there is a part of us sitting
- 20:03Speaker 1: inside begging for that acknowledgement. When you say that this
- 20:09Speaker 1: is speaking it, speaking it or tell the sharing experience
- 20:13Speaker 1: with someone writing it in your journal is a great
- 20:17Speaker 1: starting point. You know, being able to have just another
- 20:22Speaker 1: person here you. We all want to be heard, we
- 20:25Speaker 1: all want to be seen and and in order to
- 20:29Speaker 1: have that happen, you have to develop community or relationships
- 20:35Speaker 1: where that can take place. But the most important thing
- 20:38Speaker 1: is you have to see yourself. You have to acknowledge
- 20:43Speaker 1: to yourself that you have these feelings and that this
- 20:47Speaker 1: is where you are. And that's where I love the book.
- 20:52Speaker 1: When I say the book, I'm talking about the Little
- 20:53Speaker 1: Book of Big Lies, a journey into into fitness because
- 20:57Speaker 1: I have those stories, I have those moments in my
- 20:59Speaker 1: life that I reveal some of them to you. Really,
- 21:03Speaker 1: if they if they're still with me, that means they
- 21:05Speaker 1: had an impact on If I can vividly see that
- 21:08Speaker 1: young man patting me that on the corner Russell and
- 21:12Speaker 1: Bain Street, that's where I was at the walk past,
- 21:14Speaker 1: and suddenly just stopped showing up. Lord No, I prayed enough.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I don't know where he went, but Lord he stopped,
- 21:20Speaker 1: and that that my life was able to go on.
- 21:23Speaker 1: And so and even even from the standpoint I can
- 21:25Speaker 1: remember in the elementary s group with my a good
- 21:28Speaker 1: friend of mine died. You know how that emotional play
- 21:32Speaker 1: this role. And you know he had uh he was
- 21:35Speaker 1: blowing up a balloon and he inhaled it and then
- 21:38Speaker 1: and that affected me how my daughter I would never
- 21:41Speaker 1: allow hard to have balloons, No balloons in here you know,
- 21:47Speaker 1: have to be blown up already, but she's not blowing
- 21:49Speaker 1: off anything. So those little things that you're talking about,
- 21:52Speaker 1: that journey as you go up, as you evolved, those
- 21:54Speaker 1: moments really do play itself out again and again, and
- 21:58Speaker 1: you have to acknowledge it and admit that this had
- 22:01Speaker 1: a negative or positive effect, because a lot of time
- 22:03Speaker 1: there is positive. But you you have to acknowledge it
- 22:06Speaker 1: either way. Absolutely, you have to do. You have to.
- 22:08Speaker 1: You have to acknowledge it because once you acknowledge it,
- 22:13Speaker 1: then you can actually begin to observe yourself almost like
- 22:19Speaker 1: you're watching a movie. You know, I call it sitting
- 22:22Speaker 1: in your observer's chair, where you sit and you watch
- 22:26Speaker 1: your life like you're watching a movie, and that objectivity
- 22:31Speaker 1: allows you to see things that you're subconscious hasn't yet
- 22:36Speaker 1: um brought to the surface. It was something Before we
- 22:40Speaker 1: wrap up the interview, I wanted to make sure we
- 22:41Speaker 1: talked about this, and you made a statement in your book.
- 22:44Speaker 1: We are preconditioned to think something is always wrong. Absolutely,
- 22:49Speaker 1: that's the surviving, that's the survive itself. But you know,
- 22:53Speaker 1: we we somebody calls you in the morning, what's wrong,
- 22:56Speaker 1: What's that's right? That's right, that's right, and just imagine
- 23:01Speaker 1: that that we laugh about it right here, But that's
- 23:05Speaker 1: happening all the time. You get called into your boss's
- 23:09Speaker 1: office and the immediate thing is, you know, what's wrong?
- 23:13Speaker 1: What did I do wrong? And the what did I
- 23:16Speaker 1: do wrong? Is? We need to begin to rewire um
- 23:22Speaker 1: our immediate uh position with ourselves. You know, we need
- 23:29Speaker 1: to realize that we are we are I'd love to
- 23:33Speaker 1: say true up, you know, realize that we are innately creative, resilient,
- 23:38Speaker 1: empowered to choose how we think in a moment and
- 23:42Speaker 1: were whole, so to think of ourselves as worthy first
- 23:48Speaker 1: and then be free enough to uh make decisions about
- 23:53Speaker 1: what needs to change in our lives. It was so interesting,
- 23:56Speaker 1: and you know, we talked about the House of Mirrors. Yes,
- 24:00Speaker 1: a relatable found the looking at the two D movie
- 24:03Speaker 1: and seeing the three D image in the background, which
- 24:05Speaker 1: is the Santa Monica Pere. But the lite also stood out.
- 24:09Speaker 1: A question stood out to me that I wanted to
- 24:11Speaker 1: make sure I got answer to the joke. What is
- 24:14Speaker 1: real confidence? A real confidence is the ability to be
- 24:20Speaker 1: with yourself no matter what the challenges are. A lot
- 24:26Speaker 1: of people can't be with the uncomfortable parts of themselves.
- 24:31Speaker 1: But the moment that we learned to truly accept ourselves,
- 24:37Speaker 1: then the opinions, the judgment and the um you know,
- 24:44Speaker 1: the the u being being looked at by others will
- 24:50Speaker 1: not impact us in a negative way because we know
- 24:54Speaker 1: who we are. You know, I I feel you are
- 24:58Speaker 1: a soul mate. I would just let you know that
- 24:59Speaker 1: we because of the fact that you do a lot
- 25:02Speaker 1: of things. One of the things I really loved about
- 25:04Speaker 1: when reading your book you you have a downloadable free
- 25:07Speaker 1: tool call a s A l Ascending Scale to an

- 25:23Speaker 1: because I want to put that in my newsletter. Yeah. Well,
- 25:25Speaker 1: you know, one of the most important things we can
- 25:28Speaker 1: do is to begin to understand the power of the
- 25:33Speaker 1: thriving self. And what the thriving self gives us is
- 25:37Speaker 1: a sense of possibility. And we need to build the
- 25:41Speaker 1: muscle of being able to no matter what our situation is,
- 25:46Speaker 1: to get to a legitimate and resonating sense of possibility.
- 25:51Speaker 1: If you have a sense of possibility, you can move
- 25:54Speaker 1: through anything, and it's really important for people to know that.
- 25:58Speaker 1: One of the biggest lines in this book is that
- 26:01Speaker 1: who you are as you are is all that you are.
- 26:04Speaker 1: That is not it. You are so much more, But
- 26:08Speaker 1: you can't access all that you are if you are running.
- 26:13Speaker 1: You can't access all that you are if you don't
- 26:16Speaker 1: accept that there is more in you and then invest
- 26:20Speaker 1: time in order to you know, in order to express it.
- 26:24Speaker 1: The first time I interviewed you, I thought you are amazing,
- 26:27Speaker 1: and to have you in my studio as a guess

- 28:42Speaker 1: that Southern ball in me. Love great food. Um, I
- 28:48Speaker 1: managed to get educated along the way. You got a
- 28:50Speaker 1: degree of mathematics work for IBM. That I left IBM
- 28:53Speaker 1: to tell jokes as the stand up comedian because I
- 28:56Speaker 1: thought I'd be the next Richard Pryor with the New
- 28:59Speaker 1: York Then for me, they had already had Richard Pryor.
- 29:03Speaker 1: In fact, they already had the Murphy. So you need
- 29:08Speaker 1: to find out who you want to be because we
- 29:09Speaker 1: already got that long lockdown. So with the l A,
- 29:13Speaker 1: I realized that I couldn't act you know along the way.
- 29:17Speaker 1: You know, people in this business will let you know
- 29:20Speaker 1: where you really stand. Okay, So I started thinking about
- 29:23Speaker 1: that math degree whatever with the l A. But again
- 29:26Speaker 1: I survived all that with the Houston became a star comedian,
- 29:30Speaker 1: became a writer and sitcoms, and from parenthood to sister
- 29:37Speaker 1: sister to Jamie Fox to UH. The Parkers managed Steve
- 29:42Speaker 1: Harvey's career for sixty years and then UM developed a
- 29:48Speaker 1: lot of great marketing opportunities and relationships over the years.
- 29:51Speaker 1: And now one of my top clients is ESPN stephen A.

- 30:44Speaker 1: the R and B and pop charts with six top
- 30:47Speaker 1: twenty Billboard Magazine R and B singles and an impressive
- 30:51Speaker 1: thirteen number one hits on Billboards Hot Dance Club Play Chart,
- 30:55Speaker 1: but it's also carved out her place within the world
- 30:58Speaker 1: Broadway tell of Broadway television, film, and fashion. Broadway shows
- 31:03Speaker 1: like Bodyguard, the musical, Steve Coodon's Broadway musical Jekyline Hide,
- 31:07Speaker 1: and I saw her in her Broadway debate, a debut
- 31:11Speaker 1: uh in the lead role of Elton John and Tim
- 31:14Speaker 1: Rice's Broadway musical Aida. She's on the show the Day
- 31:17Speaker 1: to talk about other television projects that she's involved with.

- 31:32Speaker 1: that they serve. Please welcome to Money Making Conversation for
- 31:34Speaker 1: the very first time, and I'm happy to have it
- 31:36Speaker 1: on the show. Miss Deborah Cox. Hey, hello, after that,
- 31:41Speaker 1: I was I needed some applause. Deborah. You know, you know,
- 31:44Speaker 1: it's just a lot going on with your life, your career,
- 31:47Speaker 1: and you look fantastic, by the way, Thank you so much,
- 31:50Speaker 1: Thanks so much. You've got all that information. That's a
- 31:53Speaker 1: lot of information. Well, you know, first of all, you know, uh,
- 31:57Speaker 1: you know, off air, I will telling you that one
- 31:59Speaker 1: of the first time we met when I was when
- 32:01Speaker 1: I was one of the producer's own sister sister and
- 32:03Speaker 1: I was one of the early early years. You was
- 32:05Speaker 1: very successful singer, and you were at that turn you
- 32:08Speaker 1: was making that turn to consider acting as a as
- 32:12Speaker 1: a as Was it a love for acting or you
- 32:13Speaker 1: just felt like that was a craft you wanted to
- 32:15Speaker 1: build on when you was auditioned for sitcoms like Sister Sister,
- 32:19Speaker 1: Well it was it was during my early years. I
- 32:24Speaker 1: learned very very early on that you have to try
- 32:28Speaker 1: and crack at everything, and so acting was something that
- 32:32Speaker 1: was always in my blood. I had done musicals before,
- 32:35Speaker 1: but when I went to l A, you know, doing
- 32:38Speaker 1: studio sessions and working on the album wasn't enough I
- 32:41Speaker 1: wanted to do. I wanted to do more. And so
- 32:44Speaker 1: that was um, you know, I had had an agent
- 32:48Speaker 1: that would just send me on all these different auditions,
- 32:52Speaker 1: you know, for different types of roles. Well, the thing
- 32:54Speaker 1: that all came across to me in the in the
- 32:56Speaker 1: audition was that you was just a natural um you
- 32:59Speaker 1: know or not. Uh, the moment wasn't too big for you.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Because the reason I say that because you know, a
- 33:04Speaker 1: lot of actors, a lot of singers came through common
- 33:07Speaker 1: came through a lot of individuals who and I see
- 33:11Speaker 1: that what they're doing now, and I see what you're
- 33:13Speaker 1: doing now, and then to see the early stages of
- 33:15Speaker 1: learning or try to get a sense of who you are,
- 33:18Speaker 1: what you say, what you do, because you come in there,
- 33:21Speaker 1: I guess, uh, in some ways, because of the fact
- 33:23Speaker 1: that you are a successful singer versus a person who
- 33:28Speaker 1: may be an unknown actress, it almost is almost a
- 33:30Speaker 1: disadvantage sometimes to you are are maybe uh, the fact
- 33:36Speaker 1: that you know you're coming in and you're making a transition,
- 33:38Speaker 1: and you're not giving credit for the gifts that you
- 33:41Speaker 1: have as an actor. I think, well, I think a
- 33:45Speaker 1: lot of the times, the right project has to find you.
- 33:49Speaker 1: In order for you to find you, you have to
- 33:51Speaker 1: continue to go out and be fearless and put yourself
- 33:53Speaker 1: in front of people that are going to see that gift.
- 33:56Speaker 1: You know, I did my first independent um. I did
- 34:01Speaker 1: a film with Lawrence tap you know, a movie called
- 34:05Speaker 1: Love Come Down in two thousand, which was I think
- 34:08Speaker 1: probably um again. It was something that that came to
- 34:13Speaker 1: me and I think really suited who I was, right, right, right,
- 34:19Speaker 1: That's that's what I'm saying. You know, when you come
- 34:20Speaker 1: in for these auditions for these sitcoms or these dramas,
- 34:24Speaker 1: you know, you're trying to be something that sometimes we've
- 34:27Speaker 1: already you know, you're you're you know you're you are
- 34:31Speaker 1: still are a very popular singer. Okay, let's go and
- 34:33Speaker 1: get that straight. So when you at the time you
- 34:35Speaker 1: even more prominent, you singer walking and even go okay
- 34:38Speaker 1: this Jebrea Cox Okay, wow, okay, and so you can
- 34:42Speaker 1: you so you you're you're somewhat um um and all
- 34:47Speaker 1: of the fact that you're in a room and you're
- 34:49Speaker 1: trying to audition for a funny role. You know what
- 34:52Speaker 1: I'm saying, You're trying to be a friend of a
- 34:54Speaker 1: family member or a friend of the twins at the time,
- 34:57Speaker 1: because that's what Sister Sister was about. And so so
- 35:00Speaker 1: it means that you but like you said, when you
- 35:02Speaker 1: have the role you had with Lawrence Tay, they brought
- 35:04Speaker 1: that to you. So they had a sense of this
- 35:07Speaker 1: is who I want to play this role. This is
- 35:09Speaker 1: the person he is, the value already to the natural
- 35:12Speaker 1: skills I want to look, I want the tone, I
- 35:14Speaker 1: want all those things that are those values. And so
- 35:18Speaker 1: so then that carries you over into Broadway, which is
- 35:20Speaker 1: even more wow. You know. Yea happen big, big, big
- 35:25Speaker 1: shoes to fail when it comes to, you know, taking
- 35:29Speaker 1: on a role that's already been established. Um. But you
- 35:33Speaker 1: know again, I think it's it's really about how fearless
- 35:37Speaker 1: can you be? You know, and in shedding the persona
- 35:42Speaker 1: that people see and that people have gotten used to
- 35:46Speaker 1: and stepping into something completely different. I had gotten to
- 35:50Speaker 1: the point where I was very bored with a lot
- 35:51Speaker 1: of the things that were happening, and Broadway seemed to
- 35:56Speaker 1: have a lot more compelling storylines and more compelling, um,
- 36:02Speaker 1: you know, just a way of telling the story. I
- 36:04Speaker 1: was able to sing and act and dance and live
- 36:07Speaker 1: and be live and live as well. And I think
- 36:10Speaker 1: that that's what I took away when I was watching you,
- 36:13Speaker 1: was like, you're in your moment, you know, because you
- 36:15Speaker 1: know it's a you know, there's a former stand up comic,
- 36:18Speaker 1: I know, going in front of a live audience. You know,
- 36:20Speaker 1: you it's there's a high level of you know, you
- 36:23Speaker 1: can't plan it. There's a lot of you can't nothing. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:26Speaker 1: you're like it's like you're walking that type what's happen? Right,
- 36:31Speaker 1: and and and every audience and every show people right
- 36:34Speaker 1: might laugh at something that that the previous audience didn't
- 36:37Speaker 1: find the humor or, and then they might they might cry,
- 36:41Speaker 1: or they might get your standard ovation, or they might applaud.
- 36:44Speaker 1: It's something to react to it, and that's that that
- 36:47Speaker 1: that's that's what you got out of the whole live world,
- 36:50Speaker 1: that whole Broadway world. Correct. Oh yeah, yeah. There was
- 36:54Speaker 1: no no chance to retake anything. We do anything when
- 36:59Speaker 1: you're live. As soon as you know that downbeat happens.
- 37:03Speaker 1: You're pretty much often running and you gotta you know,
- 37:05Speaker 1: know all your lines, know your marks, you know, and
- 37:09Speaker 1: and be in it and and be able to deliver
- 37:11Speaker 1: in front of the audience that's paid, you know, over
- 37:13Speaker 1: a hundred dollars for a sei. You've got to make
- 37:16Speaker 1: sure that you deliver. You know. That's awesome. Now you
- 37:18Speaker 1: have a you have a movie project coming up on
- 37:20Speaker 1: BT and called Influence. It starts one of my good
- 37:25Speaker 1: Anthony Hamilton's and Kim tell us a little bit about that. Uh,
- 37:28Speaker 1: and I know we're gonna we're gonna talk about the
- 37:30Speaker 1: Age Healthcare Foundation and all that, but I want to
- 37:32Speaker 1: just talk about your brain is amazing and the fact
- 37:35Speaker 1: that I got you on my show. I al would
- 37:37Speaker 1: like to talk about the evolution of that journey. When
- 37:40Speaker 1: you're talking about people with careers, Your careers are amazingly
- 37:43Speaker 1: long and it's not going anywhere. So let's talk about
- 37:46Speaker 1: the upcoming movie on b T. Well, this movie is
- 37:49Speaker 1: called Influence, and it's about a family of lawyers who
- 37:55Speaker 1: take on this case of superstar celebrity who's accused of murder.
- 38:00Speaker 1: And I play Savannah, who's accused of murdering her husband.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Um and so different. So yeah, it's really a suspense,
- 38:11Speaker 1: a thriller. And that was the reason why I signed
- 38:13Speaker 1: on to do it was because I had never done
- 38:15Speaker 1: anything like that before. I always loved that feels like
- 38:18Speaker 1: that if there sultry and there too, you know, you're you,
- 38:21Speaker 1: you look good. Yeah. Yeah. I think that this role
- 38:27Speaker 1: will will will explore a very different side of me,
- 38:31Speaker 1: a side that I've never had to even exploit doing music.
- 38:35Speaker 1: You know a lot of the times, you know, women
- 38:38Speaker 1: have to you know, be sort of you know, scantily clad,
- 38:41Speaker 1: and I've I've always been able to you know, be
- 38:46Speaker 1: measured by the by the weight of of my talent,
- 38:51Speaker 1: right and my voice. Yeah, so um yeah, I really
- 38:56Speaker 1: pride myself in that because I think the standard are
- 39:00Speaker 1: you know, the standards have been lowered, you know, over
- 39:03Speaker 1: the years. Um And when you think about these triple
- 39:07Speaker 1: threats like the Gyan Carrols, the Dorothy Dandrids, Lena Horn,
- 39:11Speaker 1: all these great incredible class women, you know, they never
- 39:14Speaker 1: had to do that. They had all they needed was there,
- 39:18Speaker 1: you know, their talent, you know. So um so back
- 39:22Speaker 1: to influence, it's it's it's something that I've never done before,
- 39:25Speaker 1: and it was really um fun to explore a different
- 39:29Speaker 1: side uh of acting, which is really dramatic and doing
- 39:33Speaker 1: a lot of suspense and thriller type stuff. Well, I
- 39:36Speaker 1: like the word thriller tied to your name. You know,
- 39:38Speaker 1: that suspense, that drama because you know the reason I
- 39:41Speaker 1: say that because you know, you have the different shows
- 39:43Speaker 1: and they're like you know, like their dramas and that's
- 39:46Speaker 1: the their sitcoms and things like that, and they tend
- 39:48Speaker 1: to be over the top and so so here and
- 39:51Speaker 1: you and this this role, these roles, and I have
- 39:53Speaker 1: to say they're usually white actors, and actors usually get
- 39:57Speaker 1: these type of roles. In those particular roles where they
- 39:59Speaker 1: allowed the character to play out. We played the sinister
- 40:02Speaker 1: role that you know, look the evil but good looking uh,
- 40:07Speaker 1: the pause and ivy type characters. That had to be
- 40:10Speaker 1: a lot of fun. That really when they when the
- 40:12Speaker 1: when the opportunity that came to you, you had to
- 40:15Speaker 1: jump forward right Oh yeah, oh yeah, I mean it
- 40:18Speaker 1: was they had um, they had really um you know,
- 40:23Speaker 1: they were really trying someone to do it. And I
- 40:27Speaker 1: read the script and I and I thought it was
- 40:28Speaker 1: just something very different, you know, I had just finished
- 40:31Speaker 1: coming off of the Bodyguard musical and I had spent
- 40:35Speaker 1: eighteen months doing that show across the country, which was great,
- 40:39Speaker 1: was exhilarating, and there was a lot of a lot
- 40:42Speaker 1: of great music in the show, you know, Whitney Houston's music,
- 40:45Speaker 1: I mean, which is really a big task. So it
- 40:48Speaker 1: was nice to kind of just settle back and sink
- 40:51Speaker 1: into something very very different from that. What I tried
- 40:54Speaker 1: to do with Myney making conversations and career relationship to
- 40:56Speaker 1: let people know that I have a lot of media
- 40:59Speaker 1: contacts in my and then I developed this show so
- 41:01Speaker 1: people can use it as an extension to be of
- 41:04Speaker 1: the market that their their products, their talents and when
- 41:07Speaker 1: your talent is most multidimensional, and so December five is
- 41:11Speaker 1: an event that you're doing for free that's gonna help
- 41:13Speaker 1: out people within our community when it comes down. I
- 41:16Speaker 1: want to promote the influence the movie on BT with
- 41:18Speaker 1: my man Anthony Hamilton's the new single that you have
- 41:21Speaker 1: called easy Way in the video when it comes out
- 41:24Speaker 1: in as well as the album your seventh album A
- 41:27Speaker 1: seventh is a very lucky numb so I wish you
- 41:30Speaker 1: loved and uh so that the money making conversation. Rashan

- 43:02Speaker 1: money making covers j Okay enjoying my life. I can
- 43:08Speaker 1: play with I can talk to different people that I've
- 43:11Speaker 1: known for a long time. I can talk to people
- 43:12Speaker 1: like I just met and um, I never met. I
- 43:16Speaker 1: never had a relationship with it. Because the growth of
- 43:18Speaker 1: this show has allowed people to come onto my show
- 43:21Speaker 1: understanding that I'm not over here trying to and I
- 43:24Speaker 1: see a hype or not trying to dig up dirty stories.
- 43:28Speaker 1: I'm not trying to trying to create any mad like
- 43:32Speaker 1: situations so I can grow my social media. This show
- 43:35Speaker 1: is about being an entrepreneur by being in an entertainment business,
- 43:38Speaker 1: by sharing your stories as an entrepreneur. Because social media
- 43:41Speaker 1: today has turned everybody who has a social media account
- 43:45Speaker 1: into entrepreneurs. They have to understand their brand and their
- 43:48Speaker 1: brand growth. Uh. The next two people I have on
- 43:51Speaker 1: my phone on the phone, they're on the phone together
- 43:53Speaker 1: because I've known them for a long time. I found
- 43:57Speaker 1: out one person with being in of you. I said,
- 43:58Speaker 1: I got to have other girl on the phone because
- 44:02Speaker 1: they both are very special and they definitely wanted to
- 44:04Speaker 1: speak to him simultaneously. My next guest is a producer, actor,
- 44:08Speaker 1: and director. She has been honored with three a CP
- 44:11Speaker 1: Image Awards for work on The Steve Harvey Show. Not
- 44:14Speaker 1: only has she starred in several independent features, but she's
- 44:17Speaker 1: also produced over sixteen projects under her independent production company,
- 44:21Speaker 1: Nina Holiday Entertainment, with her producing partner cast Seekers Beatles.
- 44:27Speaker 1: Please welcome to money making conversation, both of them, Terry
- 44:30Speaker 1: Jay Vonn and cast Seekers Beatles. But you know we're great.
- 44:38Speaker 1: First of all, thank you because of the fact that
- 44:41Speaker 1: you know, in this business you have to have I
- 44:44Speaker 1: would tell people multiple levels of income options, you know,
- 44:48Speaker 1: whatever you want to say it because there's no guarantee
- 44:51Speaker 1: that the path that you're it could be cut off
- 44:53Speaker 1: due to age, to be cut off through the fact
- 44:56Speaker 1: that they you can get taie cast and be cut
- 44:58Speaker 1: off through the fact that people would say, hey, we're
- 45:00Speaker 1: going in a different direction. So what do you do
- 45:03Speaker 1: when somebody says that, Well, you you you study your craft,
- 45:06Speaker 1: you understand your craft, and also you surround yourself with
- 45:09Speaker 1: individuals who have like minded of mentality about what you're
- 45:14Speaker 1: trying to do with your life. And that's what you
- 45:16Speaker 1: guys to have done, right Cash in Tear J definitely, UM.
- 45:22Speaker 1: You know, you know me for a very long time
- 45:25Speaker 1: when I was you know, I got my big break
- 45:28Speaker 1: on the Steve Harvey Show. And I say big break
- 45:31Speaker 1: because I had been studying and auditioning for a while
- 45:34Speaker 1: before I ever landed that role. But that is definitely
- 45:38Speaker 1: the role that UM catapulted and made people know who
- 45:43Speaker 1: I was. UM. So, you know, just spending all those
- 45:48Speaker 1: years being an actress, you know, showing up, auditioning and basically,
- 45:53Speaker 1: you know, you do your side of the job, which
- 45:56Speaker 1: is to do the work, to study the craft, to
- 45:59Speaker 1: know with the character and all that, but you are
- 46:02Speaker 1: not in control if somebody hired you or hot and
- 46:06Speaker 1: you know that's cool. When I was in my twenties
- 46:09Speaker 1: and early thirties. But at some point I felt and
- 46:13Speaker 1: I knew that I could not leave my employment in
- 46:17Speaker 1: the hands of other people. Um. And you know this,
- 46:21Speaker 1: this is very subjective. So you know, I've always been
- 46:25Speaker 1: business minded, and you know, when we were on the
- 46:27Speaker 1: Steve Harvey Show, John, I would always like hang around,
- 46:31Speaker 1: ask questions. I talked to you guys about money a
- 46:33Speaker 1: lot about investing. UM. I was always trying to well,
- 46:37Speaker 1: can I write a script? Can I do this? So
- 46:39Speaker 1: I was always trying to take control in some kind
- 46:42Speaker 1: of way. And thank god I met my soulmate in business, um,
- 46:50Speaker 1: miss prolific writer. Prolific writer. Yes, yes, And I gotta
- 46:56Speaker 1: just drug her into this side of the business because
- 46:59Speaker 1: you know, cast it off as a novelist novel but
- 47:03Speaker 1: they were so fantastic. I was like, oh, these be
- 47:06Speaker 1: turned into the TV shows like okay. And we kind
- 47:11Speaker 1: of been together ever since, just trying to carve out
- 47:14Speaker 1: our own niche make our own way. And we've been,
- 47:18Speaker 1: you know, rocking and rolling together for over fourteen years now,
- 47:22Speaker 1: from something like that like fourteen thing, it's been about fourteen. Yeah,
- 47:26Speaker 1: you really had one kid, We really had one kid
- 47:28Speaker 1: between us, and now now we have five. Yeah, now
- 47:31Speaker 1: we have five, and now we have four husbands between us.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Start off with and then you know I'm sick. Now,
- 47:40Speaker 1: Ay told you I'm sick. You gotta be laughing over here.
- 47:44Speaker 1: You gotta stop stop stop stop, Okay, okay, let me,
- 47:52Speaker 1: you need to shut up. Ferry, Jake, now, Cash, I'll
- 47:55Speaker 1: be quiet. Let's talk about you know, you know, it's
- 47:58Speaker 1: always I would tell you those she says, there's always
- 48:01Speaker 1: that unknown person that's out there just grinding. You did
- 48:05Speaker 1: so many Hoodie awards with me, you know, and and
- 48:08Speaker 1: from reduction standpoint, and you was always he was always there,
- 48:12Speaker 1: you know, it was it was always cool whenever from
- 48:16Speaker 1: a person to under standpoint, talk about your your your
- 48:19Speaker 1: your your your ability to your talents as a writer.
- 48:22Speaker 1: Before I get back to me this funny, ladies, I
- 48:24Speaker 1: am a natural storyteller. Well, I have to say, honestly,
- 48:27Speaker 1: watching you, um you have, You've been such an inspiration.
- 48:31Speaker 1: I would tell Terry all the time when we would
- 48:33Speaker 1: come back from the Neighborhood Awards. I'm like, man that
- 48:35Speaker 1: Shawn like he just makes things happen. And I remember
- 48:38Speaker 1: having a specific conversation with you because I'm an artist.
- 48:41Speaker 1: I'm a storyteller to my heart. UM, and I have
- 48:44Speaker 1: over the years and learned to become a businesswoman. Deal Saner,
- 48:48Speaker 1: I need a date for meals on TV one on Sunday,
- 48:50Speaker 1: December eight at seven pm Eastern, sixth Central, followed by
- 48:54Speaker 1: an our car Encore presentation at nine pm at eighth Central.
- 48:59Speaker 1: UH now eastern and eight Central. Um, Dear Santa, I
- 49:03Speaker 1: need a date expound. So that is a project. I've
- 49:08Speaker 1: been really blessed because I have really great relationship in
- 49:12Speaker 1: this business. Um, and not just you and Steve, I
- 49:15Speaker 1: have other great relations Reagan, Presure Reagan. This Parenthood World
- 49:22Speaker 1: Films is actually the production company for that movie. And um,
- 49:28Speaker 1: I I that is my I have four Christmas movies
- 49:32Speaker 1: airing this Christmas. Cass has written three of them. She
- 49:38Speaker 1: did not write this one, Dear Santa. Probably them. Oh yeah,
- 49:45Speaker 1: you wrote two of them. Okay, yeah, she wrote two
- 49:48Speaker 1: of them. You have four movies. You have four Christmas
- 49:53Speaker 1: movies airing, but I don't have information on one of
- 49:57Speaker 1: them for this interview. So well I can fill you
- 50:00Speaker 1: in so and I'll do them in order of the
- 50:06Speaker 1: sold immediate sold. You gonna be pat It's gonna be
- 50:09Speaker 1: all Terry J all time, all the time, as it
- 50:12Speaker 1: should be. So here we go. So on November on
- 50:18Speaker 1: the ET, Uh, I gotta get all these things together. Um,
- 50:23Speaker 1: Christmas Bells will air and that's the one I did
- 50:27Speaker 1: with John Amos and Jane Hubert, uh, Dominique Perry and
- 50:31Speaker 1: Raven Goodwin. And that airs on the t November. On
- 50:35Speaker 1: November thirty, air Hip Hop Holiday, which is a Nina
- 50:40Speaker 1: holiday production that Cass did right, and that is um
- 50:46Speaker 1: airing on BT at eight o'clock on November thirty, and
- 50:49Speaker 1: that stars Windy Rachel Robinson, Toronto Jones, Andre Spliller. And
- 50:56Speaker 1: then on December seven airs Oh my god, okay, Christmas
- 51:04Speaker 1: bills hip Hop Holiday, um ca, what is it? Oh?
- 51:08Speaker 1: Tw was the chaos before I was chaos before Christmas?
- 51:12Speaker 1: I'm sorry, you so busy you can't remember everything. I'm sorry,
- 51:15Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. That's the chaos before Christmas Aaron
- 51:19Speaker 1: DC at eight o'clock. That was written by Cass Seaters Beatles.
- 51:23Speaker 1: It was produced by Octet Productions, another independent production company
- 51:27Speaker 1: based out of Washington, d C. But that's the one
- 51:30Speaker 1: that's starring Terry Sheppard, Uh, Cynthia McWilliams, a Seon Crockett
- 51:36Speaker 1: and Victoria Ra's really funny. Um. So that airs on
- 51:41Speaker 1: b et uh December seven at eight and then December
- 51:46Speaker 1: eight at seven o'clock. As you were saying, sir, airs,
- 51:50Speaker 1: Dear Santa, I need a Date on TV one at
- 51:55Speaker 1: seven o'clock and then it re airs again at nine o'clock.
- 51:58Speaker 1: And that stars ray J, Reagan Gomez, and Marie Johnson,
- 52:03Speaker 1: who I loved and she was hollarious their mother and
- 52:07Speaker 1: it was I'm just so blessed. It's gonna be a
- 52:10Speaker 1: very terry Christmas. That's you know that they're just the
- 52:13Speaker 1: title alone. It sounds funny, Dear Santa, I need a
- 52:17Speaker 1: date us. What their premise is? So Reagan Gomez and
- 52:23Speaker 1: ray J they play brother and sister and they're being
- 52:27Speaker 1: pressured by their mother and their father and mother uh
- 52:31Speaker 1: to have to get in a relationship. They want they
- 52:35Speaker 1: want grandkids, and their kids are like forty years old.
- 52:38Speaker 1: They are not dating anybody seriously. So the siblings make
- 52:42Speaker 1: a bet that they will be the ones to bring
- 52:45Speaker 1: home of a date of they will find love by
- 52:49Speaker 1: Christmas time and bring home a date. So we get
- 52:52Speaker 1: to watch them as they go through the journey of
- 52:56Speaker 1: dating all these people. Um, and just a climate of
- 53:00Speaker 1: out dating goes now on the apps and stuff. And
- 53:03Speaker 1: it's some really funny performances in this movie. I don't
- 53:08Speaker 1: know if you guys are familiar with the Simone, but
- 53:10Speaker 1: she does a cameo in this movie and she killed it.
- 53:14Speaker 1: She is so funny. Um, so I'm really thank Oh

- 53:24Speaker 1: real clips, the trailers. You gotta get to me, four banners,
- 53:27Speaker 1: you gotta get to me. Um. This is what money
- 53:30Speaker 1: making conversations about is by promoting a brand of people
- 53:33Speaker 1: I know and don't know. In this case, I know
- 53:36Speaker 1: both of YouTube YouTube both thoroughly longtime relationship. Just a
- 53:39Speaker 1: little side note. My daughter, who you hear way back
- 53:43Speaker 1: in the day. She's she's a she's a junior in
- 53:47Speaker 1: college now national sciety student. Uh you know, she blew
- 53:51Speaker 1: out a knee playing tennis on the tennis circuit. But
- 53:53Speaker 1: she's I was just about to say, is she going
- 53:55Speaker 1: to the Olympics. No, she you know, she she uh
- 53:59Speaker 1: walked away was a third major injury. But she's doing great.
- 54:02Speaker 1: I I you know, my wife loves you. Today. She

- 54:10Speaker 1: it's like the first big celebrity to keep to the
- 54:12Speaker 1: house with Terry Jay Vague. But she's doing great. And uh,
- 54:18Speaker 1: I would tell you I'm big fans and uh let's
- 54:22Speaker 1: let's let's we will do some business in twenty I
- 54:25Speaker 1: promise you. I promise you. I know where my life
- 54:27Speaker 1: is going about money making conversations and YouTube ladies are

- 54:35Speaker 1: to me. Started to start posting. Okay, you scored some
- 54:41Speaker 1: screaming holiday deals last year, but that was a lot
