- 1:51Speaker 1: money making Conversation is all about. That's what we've been doing.
- 1:54Speaker 1: That's what we've been building this brand. I'll be a
- 1:56Speaker 1: Napty in January pitchingness as a TV show. So the
- 2:01Speaker 1: sky is it's not even a limit here. We're gonna
- 2:05Speaker 1: do this. My next guest is the executive producer Laugh
- 2:09Speaker 1: Mob Laugh Tracks, which is in the second season on
- 2:11Speaker 1: True TV. But let's go back, Let's go back. This
- 2:16Speaker 1: is with me and him, you know, step into the world.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Because he's also co created with Russell Simmons the HBO
- 2:24Speaker 1: Deaf Comedy Jam. He was working behind the scenes recruiting
- 2:27Speaker 1: the best, unrecognized, unknown or just starting out comedians in
- 2:31Speaker 1: the world as a producer, a talent scout, a good friend,
- 2:35Speaker 1: many industry influences considering him a career maker because he
- 2:39Speaker 1: hit my career. I would not be sitting here if
- 2:42Speaker 1: he had not chosen me to be on Death Comedy Jam.
- 2:45Speaker 1: We talked about that during the interview. He surely can
- 2:47Speaker 1: be credited with discovering Bernie Mack, Dave Chappelle. I did
- 2:51Speaker 1: Dave Chappelle here and I did Death Comedy Jam together.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Chris Tucker, Bill Bellaman, that's my board, got him on
- 2:56Speaker 1: my speed Dits Secretly Entertainment. He's done my show Money
- 2:58Speaker 1: Main Conversation Many Mike else that's a fool. Did the
- 3:02Speaker 1: movie with uh Steve, did it with Beyonce. We did
- 3:06Speaker 1: that movie together, Monique Monique. I did a TV show,
- 3:09Speaker 1: The Parkers. Tracy Morgan, that food you know about him?
- 3:13Speaker 1: Did a comedy concert that the Houston Arena and Houston
- 3:15Speaker 1: Texas with it and a multitude of other comedians. I'm
- 3:18Speaker 1: just letting you know what he's done. He's allowed me
- 3:20Speaker 1: to have a lane of participation. Please welcome to money
- 3:23Speaker 1: making conversations, my man, Bob Sumner right now. Man, I'm
- 3:34Speaker 1: so proud of you. I don't know what you got
- 3:38Speaker 1: that long? I said, you still got that long more? Absolutely, absolutely,
- 3:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you something. Let's let's go back, man,
- 3:51Speaker 1: because you know we're gonna talk about laugh Mark, which
- 3:54Speaker 1: is a really it's it's you know, I've watched several episodes.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I'm a fan of it because it's like a catch
- 4:00Speaker 1: comedy show tied into a stand up comedy show, which
- 4:04Speaker 1: is really fascinating from a creative standpoint, because you know,
- 4:08Speaker 1: I'm watching that show and because of the way they
- 4:11Speaker 1: produced it and the stand up coming I've already done
- 4:14Speaker 1: with it. That's excited about because I do want to
- 4:15Speaker 1: talk about our journey together and the comics and comedians lives.
- 4:19Speaker 1: You change and the facts changed the way we we
- 4:21Speaker 1: look at comedy today, from Steve Harvey to Eccentric Entertainment.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Who's on CBS right now, Dio Hugualle has a syndicated,
- 4:29Speaker 1: a nationally syndicated show. And of course Bernie Mack, who
- 4:32Speaker 1: would always be legendary and what he did. Unfortunately health
- 4:35Speaker 1: reasons took him away. But there are other comics out
- 4:38Speaker 1: there who walked on that stage, who was established, who
- 4:40Speaker 1: still came on that stage and you know, built their
- 4:43Speaker 1: brand out of we're talking like the you know the
- 4:45Speaker 1: Chris Tucker did five minutes and then became an international
- 4:48Speaker 1: star five minutes on Death Comedy. You know you know
- 4:57Speaker 1: ed Grifford, he did Michael Jackson because it's superstar. Wow, man,
- 5:02Speaker 1: let me could I I think could Before we go
- 5:04Speaker 1: into all of that, you said something already that you
- 5:07Speaker 1: pretty much hit the nail on the head man Um
- 5:12Speaker 1: in terms of why why this show um was created,
- 5:16Speaker 1: laugh minds, laugh tracks was really based on America. Really
- 5:22Speaker 1: didn't know how death Comedy jam was built. You do?
- 5:26Speaker 1: You do? You know everybody always see the faces, you know,
- 5:29Speaker 1: the big names. Definitely, everybody thinks that Diana Ross discovered
- 5:34Speaker 1: the Jackson five, when really it was Bobby Tella from
- 5:37Speaker 1: the Vancouver's. You know, people don't know that that part.
- 5:41Speaker 1: But um, what happened with me was I watched the
- 5:46Speaker 1: landscape of where comedy had gone out of the nineties,
- 5:50Speaker 1: you know, out of the nineties. Man, everybody was getting
- 5:53Speaker 1: the sitcom people was meeting, people said, didn't know Steve,
- 5:57Speaker 1: but they came to Death Comedy Jam and TV show.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Tracy Morgan didn't know Martin, but he did what he
- 6:04Speaker 1: did and then he got on The Martin Show. So
- 6:07Speaker 1: many things like that, including you know, I brought Dolomite
- 6:10Speaker 1: to Deaf Comedy Jam. I bought while man Steve the
- 6:13Speaker 1: Deaf Commy Jam to mix the new with the old.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And what happened is when Deaf Commy Jam went off
- 6:21Speaker 1: the air, and then the HBO brought the Chris Rocks
- 6:24Speaker 1: Show into light and things of that nature. People don't
- 6:28Speaker 1: understand that. And you know for a fact, I was
- 6:32Speaker 1: going all over the country finding these comedians in little
- 6:35Speaker 1: hole in the walls and this, that and the other,
- 6:39Speaker 1: and it just became magical after a while. But then
- 6:42Speaker 1: all of that stopped and I kept the show going
- 6:46Speaker 1: on the road where Kevin Hart won a contest for me,
- 6:49Speaker 1: Cocob Brown won a contest for me, s Ray Davis.
- 6:53Speaker 1: So the talent was still there, but we didn't really
- 6:56Speaker 1: have a vehicle for them. So with that being said,
- 7:02Speaker 1: you know the two thousand and two thousand and ten,
- 7:06Speaker 1: some of these people started coming on, but I knew
- 7:09Speaker 1: that there was the next generation. Just like after Michael
- 7:13Speaker 1: Jordan's you had Kobe Bryant doing Lebron James, the same
- 7:17Speaker 1: thing goes with comedy. So I decided to go to
- 7:20Speaker 1: l a Inside to build the brand. Okay, my own brand,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and and and laugh Mob is nothing more than the
- 7:28Speaker 1: afternem for MOB is more of Bob's best. So what
- 7:32Speaker 1: I would do is I would go into these these
- 7:35Speaker 1: big offices and talk to these people. But nobody really
- 7:39Speaker 1: knew that it was Bob something that did this. And
- 7:42Speaker 1: I'm trying to bring them a sketch show as possible,
- 7:45Speaker 1: so more fresh stand up. Nobody's hearing me. So you
- 7:49Speaker 1: know what happened. I said, I'll just do it myself
- 7:53Speaker 1: and do it in a certain way where I can
- 7:56Speaker 1: take all these stand up comedians who don't have UM
- 8:00Speaker 1: great tapes. You know, after the show, they're trying to
- 8:03Speaker 1: pedal their tapes, but you get the tape and it's
- 8:06Speaker 1: like um video from shows, comic view or whatever that
- 8:10Speaker 1: they've been or nobody wants that. They want something fresh.
- 8:13Speaker 1: So also you could take a fresh tape. If I
- 8:16Speaker 1: identify who deserves a half hour or hour special, I'll
- 8:21Speaker 1: shoot it myself and then try to sell it to
- 8:24Speaker 1: a Showtime or HBO, which is actually worked. But I
- 8:27Speaker 1: took all of the sixteen hours of material that I
- 8:30Speaker 1: had the audio, and I treated it just like a
- 8:33Speaker 1: Thanksgiving turkey. Okay, you take that material and just like
- 8:38Speaker 1: you take a turkey and you and you have the turkey,
- 8:42Speaker 1: then you turn it into uh um, a turkey sandwich,
- 8:47Speaker 1: a turkey cattle, roll um, you turn it into turkey hash.
- 8:51Speaker 1: You turn it into turkey. So you know, you just
- 8:54Speaker 1: do that, and that's what I did with the stand up.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And we took the audio that had stories, the comedians
- 9:00Speaker 1: that had stories to tell, and some guys out of
- 9:03Speaker 1: my office decided that they're going to try to take
- 9:06Speaker 1: this and turn them into comedy videos and we put
- 9:09Speaker 1: them on YouTube. We started getting sixties seventy million views.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Before you know it. Here some of the networks trying to,
- 9:16Speaker 1: you know, how can we be a part of this,
- 9:18Speaker 1: and here we are. You know, first of all, let's
- 9:21Speaker 1: let's really if you watch the shows. If you watch
- 9:24Speaker 1: the show, I'm taking the stand up comic is on
- 9:26Speaker 1: stage okay during his routine, and then they will seamlessly
- 9:30Speaker 1: transition into a video that they're referencing their stand up comics,
- 9:34Speaker 1: and you're seeing. This is the cool thing about it.
- 9:37Speaker 1: The actor or actors that they've chosen are lip sinking
- 9:41Speaker 1: the dialogue from the comedian. I mean, dead on that on.
- 9:47Speaker 1: That's what I really loved about it because I was like, wow,
- 9:50Speaker 1: I mean so, whether it's a child actor or adult actor,
- 9:53Speaker 1: they are matching it. You know, male female, it doesn't matter.
- 9:57Speaker 1: And that to me, what is a female comedian or
- 10:00Speaker 1: male comedian. That's what I really really loved about the
- 10:03Speaker 1: show is like, wow, this is really slick. You know,
- 10:06Speaker 1: I got the reenactment of the comedy routine, but to
- 10:10Speaker 1: be able to have the comic on stage and then
- 10:13Speaker 1: to take give you the visual of their joke. That's
- 10:16Speaker 1: what you're doing, the visual of their joke while they're
- 10:19Speaker 1: doing the routine. It's pretty impressive. Ball that's pretty pretty.
- 10:22Speaker 1: That's pretty pretty creative. Bro when you look at it
- 10:25Speaker 1: when it goes back in conn you know, there's there's
- 10:29Speaker 1: only a few comedians who I haven't had an imprint
- 10:34Speaker 1: on that are doing big things right now. And one
- 10:38Speaker 1: of them, like when we talk about you know, your
- 10:41Speaker 1: your career and have I had said to you you
- 10:43Speaker 1: needed to like try to find too you know what
- 10:47Speaker 1: you're doing, so you could come over to, you know,
- 10:49Speaker 1: the urban side of things. The bame thing happened with
- 10:52Speaker 1: a young lady by the name of one to side. Okay,
- 10:55Speaker 1: I'm so happy to see one that in her career,
- 10:59Speaker 1: but she fell in right when death Jim was moving
- 11:03Speaker 1: out and and and the trip is Wanda used to
- 11:08Speaker 1: be my go to, like you as my Houston go
- 11:10Speaker 1: to right right right, Wanda would be the one who
- 11:14Speaker 1: would set up my showcases in the DC. Wh She
- 11:18Speaker 1: never once said, Bob, I'm doing this for you put
- 11:21Speaker 1: me on the show about that. She was just going
- 11:24Speaker 1: about it her way because she knew how to be entrepreneurial.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Then she looking she was doing this stuff and now
- 11:32Speaker 1: look at her the big time to produce it. And
- 11:35Speaker 1: I'm so proud of her, you know. But it's just
- 11:38Speaker 1: it's ways to do it. Because I still have some
- 11:40Speaker 1: comedians from back in the day, they're still upset me
- 11:44Speaker 1: because they didn't get there. But it's okay because they did.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Comments you semon right right, right, right, right right right.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I'm good. Well, thank you for coming on my show. Um, definitely. Uh.
- 11:57Speaker 1: This show has been amazing money making conversation because it
- 11:59Speaker 1: allowed me to really realize my personal impact in the
- 12:02Speaker 1: industry and then talk to people who are making an
- 12:04Speaker 1: impact even today, decades later. And you're one of the people,
- 12:09Speaker 1: one of the stars of establishing a brand of comedy,
- 12:12Speaker 1: comedy talent in the industry as so many different levels.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I'm talking to Bob Summer, executive Sumner, executive producer of
- 12:19Speaker 1: Laugh Mob Laugh Tracks, which is on in the second
- 12:22Speaker 1: season on True TV and you can see it on
- 12:24Speaker 1: Friday nights. Bob, thank you for calling my show, my man,
- 12:27Speaker 1: I appreciate your brother. Listen one last thing because you
- 12:30Speaker 1: know I'm also a curative comedy at the Apollo Theater.
- 12:33Speaker 1: See see see now that you come on now and
- 12:35Speaker 1: we're gonna let's gonna extend this interview. Talk about that now.
- 12:38Speaker 1: See you see what you ain't gonna do to me, Bob,
- 12:40Speaker 1: what you ain't gonna do. So, by the way, by
- 12:44Speaker 1: the way, l A. When I went out to l
- 12:46Speaker 1: A to build my brand, sir, but I went to
- 12:50Speaker 1: the comedy store you know, I started giving the comedians
- 12:53Speaker 1: an opportunity there who wasn't giving the opportunity? As time by,
- 12:59Speaker 1: you know, some things happened over there that was not
- 13:03Speaker 1: under my control, and I was like, um, ceremoniously, um,
- 13:08Speaker 1: let's got it away, races. But you know, God is
- 13:14Speaker 1: so good. As a matter of fact, kicking is good.
- 13:16Speaker 1: God is great, Okay, And I had an opportunity. I
- 13:21Speaker 1: got a phone call from the Weald of Famous Apollo
- 13:23Speaker 1: Theater to see if I would be interested in helping
- 13:26Speaker 1: them bring the comedy, you know, comedy back. So what
- 13:30Speaker 1: we did was we um we we actually brought in
- 13:36Speaker 1: the first three non musical performers into the Apollo Walker
- 13:40Speaker 1: Thame and that would be Red Fox, Richard Pryor in
- 13:43Speaker 1: the late Great Um Jackie Mom's Maiden. And that just
- 13:48Speaker 1: kicked us off into a series that we do call
- 13:51Speaker 1: The Apollo Comedy Club. And we're five years in over there,
- 13:56Speaker 1: and what I'm doing is just what the Apollo does.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Stars are born, as are made. I'm showcasing a lot
- 14:02Speaker 1: of the next generation. Is one guy in particular, UM
- 14:06Speaker 1: named Marshall Brandon, who I honestly believe is the next
- 14:10Speaker 1: Bernie Max slash Robin having you cantivate audiences like that,
- 14:15Speaker 1: But nobody really knows who he is yet. But Jo
- 14:18Speaker 1: you and I were to talk. Hey, Bob, blah, look
- 14:25Speaker 1: at this A twenty Rashaan and Bob, this is what
- 14:31Speaker 1: I've been doing all my life. This is what you've
- 14:32Speaker 1: been doing all your life. We just have not produced

- 16:26Speaker 1: the secrets of their success or to success. My next
- 16:30Speaker 1: guest has a content creating production company called Magic Lemonade.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I love that name. The production company specializes in television, film,
- 16:40Speaker 1: and new media with offices in Hollywood, California, and Atlanta, Georgia. Company,
- 16:45Speaker 1: Magic Lemonade creates and produces content from pre to post
- 16:48Speaker 1: production for networks and studios. Known as the Woman behind
- 16:52Speaker 1: the Labs, I've known her a lot of a lot
- 16:53Speaker 1: of years, so I know for a fact she's been
- 16:56Speaker 1: associated to me on many comedy productions. She made history.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Lass Year is the first African American female recipient of
- 17:02Speaker 1: an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special for her role as
- 17:06Speaker 1: producer of a Dave Chappelle comedy special and also want
- 17:10Speaker 1: a Grammy for Best Comedy Album. Please Welcome to money
- 17:13Speaker 1: making conversation and fantastic and brilliant producer Ricky Hughes. Hey,
- 17:22Speaker 1: how are you to put it out there? You know
- 17:23Speaker 1: you're out there doing it? You know you know I
- 17:25Speaker 1: saw your photos holding the Grammy and holding the Emmy.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I love it. I love it. Share to us, you know,
- 17:31Speaker 1: you know, because I don't like to, you know, because
- 17:33Speaker 1: I got a couple of Grammage, I got some Amatee Awards,
- 17:36Speaker 1: and I you know you can find them in my house.
- 17:38Speaker 1: You know they're not They're not somewhere right there, right there.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Either you're blind or you just don't want to look.
- 17:43Speaker 1: My mom can see my stuff when you walk in
- 17:45Speaker 1: my house. So because because you know, as a as
- 17:48Speaker 1: a producer, you know, it's kind of like the crown
- 17:51Speaker 1: jewel of people recognizing what you do because we operate
- 17:55Speaker 1: behind the scenes. You know, the talent always gets recognized,
- 17:58Speaker 1: get recognized in the streets during your recognized with a
- 18:00Speaker 1: bigger paycheck. But as a producer, talked to us about
- 18:04Speaker 1: winning those awards, I mean, you know these awards. One,
- 18:09Speaker 1: you know, working with Dave Chappelle is always a joy
- 18:13Speaker 1: of pleasure and honor um. And then to be recognized Dave,
- 18:17Speaker 1: as you said, as always front and center, which as
- 18:19Speaker 1: he should be. And you know these awards were really
- 18:23Speaker 1: about our peers recognizing us for especially any was you know,
- 18:27Speaker 1: for stan Leyton and I to be recognized, you know
- 18:31Speaker 1: as a producers who really you know, put the show
- 18:33Speaker 1: together and protected the voice for Dave. So you know
- 18:37Speaker 1: when we sat there and you know we were up
- 18:39Speaker 1: against some really big names and you know, some comeback
- 18:44Speaker 1: Kerl Burnett's come back, you know, and speak of the
- 18:47Speaker 1: room Martin Short, you know, carpool karaoke, Like there was
- 18:51Speaker 1: some really big names there, so we were really in
- 18:54Speaker 1: the place, We're excited to be in this building at
- 18:56Speaker 1: this moment, you know, sharing the moment. And then they
- 18:58Speaker 1: started playing Killing Me Awfully and we heard the song.
- 19:01Speaker 1: We're like, wait, that's Day's favorite song. And then they
- 19:04Speaker 1: said stay late the rickey hughes a Chappelle and we
- 19:07Speaker 1: kind of looked each other, We're like, get up, So,
- 19:09Speaker 1: you know, you know, finally got up because we just
- 19:13Speaker 1: didn't really anticipate that um but we still stood in
- 19:17Speaker 1: a lot of gratitude and had a great time sharing
- 19:19Speaker 1: that moment. And it's always great to feel like you're
- 19:21Speaker 1: recognized by your peers, you know, you know, it's really
- 19:23Speaker 1: special because stand Lathan. You know that that that's a
- 19:26Speaker 1: legendary name that needs a documentary attached to his name, Okay,
- 19:30Speaker 1: because I tell him all the time he is, you know,
- 19:33Speaker 1: he is what if you want to say, the king
- 19:35Speaker 1: of comedy, I would call stand the king or the Emperor,
- 19:40Speaker 1: and you know, because and he's so humble and you
- 19:43Speaker 1: know in his approach, but in the end He's definitely
- 19:46Speaker 1: one of my favorite people on the surface. You know,
- 19:48Speaker 1: Standing and I you know, did Death Comedy Jam together.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Standing did Steve Harvey's sitcom it was on the w
- 19:54Speaker 1: B stand did uh the Kevin Hart improv show on
- 20:00Speaker 1: and a bt um. You know, he's he's he's he's
- 20:03Speaker 1: constantly staying current, he constantly stays revel and I apologize
- 20:08Speaker 1: I forgot Death Comedy Jam, which changed the face of
- 20:12Speaker 1: stand up comedy today. That's standing later, that's that's just
- 20:15Speaker 1: part of that's why she says he's the king of
- 20:17Speaker 1: comedy from a producing checking the producer, from a director standpoint.
- 20:21Speaker 1: You know, he, like I said, I I consider him
- 20:24Speaker 1: a friend, I consider a person mentor because I've been
- 20:28Speaker 1: in the position to stand back and watch what he does.
- 20:31Speaker 1: But the key words that you said very humble. Oh
- 20:34Speaker 1: my god, he's so humble. It's it's it's almost ridiculous.
- 20:40Speaker 1: I mean, the fact that he goes back to sest
- 20:41Speaker 1: me street of Mom's mably like, that's such a breast
- 20:44Speaker 1: of work. That stands you know between him. It's just
- 20:48Speaker 1: you know, right now, you're the queen of Queen of
- 20:52Speaker 1: comedy producer. That's my girl. Here Mrs Ricky Hughes. So
- 20:56Speaker 1: you know, let's let's talk about some of the times
- 20:59Speaker 1: I met okay, uh, just to show you the journey.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I'd like to say, the first and only BT comedy
- 21:07Speaker 1: special We Win Too, Steve Harvey Holts, and I was
- 21:10Speaker 1: fortunate to be a producer on the show along with you,
- 21:13Speaker 1: and then several times on Rip the Runway, UH, which
- 21:18Speaker 1: I thought was a cool concept of of of being
- 21:22Speaker 1: able making making a fashion our version of Victoria's Secrets
- 21:26Speaker 1: Runway and um, and those those moments of meeting you.
- 21:30Speaker 1: What I always encountered was professionalism. You knew your job
- 21:34Speaker 1: and you stayed on top of the game. Of course
- 21:36Speaker 1: I talked about Monique Talk Show, just other projects that
- 21:39Speaker 1: wouldn't personally involved. I would walking in and see you.
- 21:42Speaker 1: They're always smiling, always on top of your game. What
- 21:45Speaker 1: motivates you to be successful? Just you know, my motivation
- 21:51Speaker 1: is really just to be great and and everything that
- 21:54Speaker 1: I do and make sure that I'm impeccable with my words.
- 21:56Speaker 1: A lot of times that keeps me was kind of
- 21:58Speaker 1: with my head down, just moving quickly through things. Um.
- 22:02Speaker 1: I know, as a leader of the ship, it's always
- 22:04Speaker 1: important I know that every eye is always on me,
- 22:06Speaker 1: so it's always important to become cool and collective, like
- 22:09Speaker 1: no one ever hears me speak above this voice, no
- 22:11Speaker 1: matter what's going on. And I know that there's a
- 22:14Speaker 1: responsibility in that, and I just you know, I own that.
- 22:19Speaker 1: And you know, it's really important for me that everything
- 22:22Speaker 1: that we put onto that screen is really reflective of
- 22:24Speaker 1: what our intentions were. Now, just really interesting when I
- 22:28Speaker 1: talk because this is her tone when she's uh if
- 22:32Speaker 1: she if she is upset, she never I say, brings
- 22:36Speaker 1: it out. She she would have the conversations, let you
- 22:39Speaker 1: know if you're doing your job right or wrong. But
- 22:41Speaker 1: the thing about is that consistency. But let's talk about
- 22:44Speaker 1: before we get into the how you started in music
- 22:47Speaker 1: and transition of the name of your company, Magic Lemonade.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Give us that back story. So Magic Lemonade one, I
- 22:55Speaker 1: just want to ask about that, the Magic Lemonade, where
- 22:58Speaker 1: does that come from? Well, Magic Lemonade came from a place,
- 23:03Speaker 1: you know, at the point where I wanted to you know,
- 23:05Speaker 1: I'd worked for with so many other people and I
- 23:08Speaker 1: realized it was time for me to hang out my
- 23:10Speaker 1: own shingle. And I say, you know what, happens no
- 23:12Speaker 1: matter no matter what happens with any projects that are
- 23:16Speaker 1: brought to me or that I create, I always have
- 23:18Speaker 1: to add a little magic to it to make it
- 23:21Speaker 1: the sweetest lemonade possible. And the biggest thing is you
- 23:24Speaker 1: can't say it without smiling though. It's just it's a
- 23:28Speaker 1: reminder that we can't take this so serious. You know,
- 23:31Speaker 1: we really need to just enjoy ourselves. To me, the
- 23:34Speaker 1: journey is just as just as important as the final product.
- 23:38Speaker 1: So I like to make sure that you know I
- 23:41Speaker 1: created a place where everyone that comes there feels heard,
- 23:45Speaker 1: everyone that works with me feels like we're working together
- 23:48Speaker 1: and not for me, and that they understand that this
- 23:51Speaker 1: is all just a magical experience and let's just get
- 23:53Speaker 1: on the ride have a good time. We know, the
- 23:56Speaker 1: first of all, you're right because when you said magic lemonade,
- 23:58Speaker 1: I immediately went to my Chick fil A lemonade. I
- 24:01Speaker 1: love their limit. You know, I went right there, you
- 24:04Speaker 1: know my favorite lemonades. You know, I'm already smiling thinking
- 24:07Speaker 1: about where I'm gonna stop when I finished this brought
- 24:09Speaker 1: podcast to Radio Short today. You know, when I when
- 24:13Speaker 1: I think about the way we develop our relationships. It's
- 24:16Speaker 1: always a journey, like I finishes to be a producer,
- 24:18Speaker 1: the writers, sitcom and all the things I've done in
- 24:20Speaker 1: my life and a manager. I started out as a
- 24:23Speaker 1: stand up comedian, and I thought I was going to
- 24:26Speaker 1: be the next Richard Pryor. At the time when I
- 24:29Speaker 1: started Edin, Murphy was everywhere, so I was competing with
- 24:32Speaker 1: his world. And then deaf Jam came along and that
- 24:34Speaker 1: gave me a comedic opportunity. But you didn't start out
- 24:38Speaker 1: being the queen of comedy from a producing standpoint, talk
- 24:41Speaker 1: about the start of your career in music, not at all,
- 24:44Speaker 1: you know. I started off in music. UM. I worked
- 24:47Speaker 1: with UM. We had a soundtrack that was I don't know,
- 24:52Speaker 1: George Jackson, Doug mckenry, I did, I did you know?
- 24:58Speaker 1: And at this point sound tracks were really big and
- 25:01Speaker 1: I had UM and so they had needed a soundtrack
- 25:06Speaker 1: and I brought in I brought in Warrangey and his
- 25:11Speaker 1: crew for the Jason's lyric soundtrack. So UM coming from there,
- 25:16Speaker 1: Warren's manager said, Hey, I got these kids, They've never
- 25:18Speaker 1: been on the road. Can you help me with them?
- 25:22Speaker 1: So I started managing with Ronchy with Warrengy and started
- 25:25Speaker 1: taking all the guys on the road and that was
- 25:27Speaker 1: the start of my music career. I ended up working
- 25:29Speaker 1: a Priority Records for some years, and then when we
- 25:32Speaker 1: did the final bio for E. M I, I said
- 25:35Speaker 1: I'm out. I would rather go to film, and TV
- 25:37Speaker 1: moved over. I started working with Carl Craig and Ralph
- 25:41Speaker 1: Farquhar and so we started producing shows from there. So
- 25:45Speaker 1: my entry from music into TV was through comedy. With
- 25:49Speaker 1: my friend, We're going to talk soon. I love to
- 25:52Speaker 1: bring you back on when we know the uh Jeff
- 25:54Speaker 1: Fry the show comes out, just to talk about it,
- 25:57Speaker 1: just to talk about you know that's that's gonna be
- 25:59Speaker 1: the first car because I know you're gonna have something
- 26:01Speaker 1: in the second quarter, the third quard, in the fourth quarter. Uh.
- 26:05Speaker 1: You know you'll be throwing out some sitcom talks, some
- 26:07Speaker 1: tour talk, all kind of good stuff. But that's what
- 26:10Speaker 1: you do in Congratulations on starting your production company. I
- 26:13Speaker 1: know it's up being up for a while, but working
- 26:15Speaker 1: with people that I admire, uh rap Qua, uh Stan Lathan,
- 26:21Speaker 1: Car Craig. I would have to say those three young
- 26:23Speaker 1: men had an effect on who Sean mcdonaldy is today.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Absolutely thank you so much. Thank you, I appreciate you.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Thank We talked about It may not be over the

- 27:48Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, it's time you stop thinking about your
- 27:51Speaker 1: dreams and put some plans into action. My next guest
- 27:59Speaker 1: is the first timer on a on this on this format,
- 28:03Speaker 1: and I'm happy they always introduced new talented people to
- 28:06Speaker 1: the show because they bring new information. They also educate me.
- 28:08Speaker 1: I always tell people how to rule about myself. I
- 28:11Speaker 1: wake up every morning dumb. I used that in a
- 28:14Speaker 1: very positive way, so I can accept information and I
- 28:17Speaker 1: won't be challenged and I don't walk through life being
- 28:19Speaker 1: a know at all. All Right, that is very important
- 28:22Speaker 1: if you're trying to digest so much information is being
- 28:25Speaker 1: brought to you on a sometime on the rapid rate.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Because of the fact that we have cell phones, in
- 28:29Speaker 1: fact that we have people text you, people call you.
- 28:32Speaker 1: You can't walk away. Back in the day, when I
- 28:35Speaker 1: was growing up, you could walk away from house and
- 28:37Speaker 1: if they didn't catch you before you have you walk
- 28:39Speaker 1: rent talk to him betil you got back home, unless
- 28:42Speaker 1: you ran into them in the streets. That's not the
- 28:43Speaker 1: case anymore. My next Dance is the vice is the
- 28:45Speaker 1: vice President of Multicultural Leadership for African American Black Strategy
- 28:50Speaker 1: and Outreach at a a r P. She serves as
- 28:53Speaker 1: the national force for a RPS engagement with African American
- 28:57Speaker 1: and Black communities throughout through partnerships with multicultural organizations to
- 29:02Speaker 1: drive a RP social impact. Please welcome to Money Making Conversations,
- 29:09Speaker 1: Shaney Houston. Thank you, thank you for trying for having me,
- 29:14Speaker 1: and it is such a pleasure to join the Money
- 29:18Speaker 1: Making Conversations today. Thank you so much. Well, then let's
- 29:21Speaker 1: talk about you. I wanted to talk about it. First
- 29:24Speaker 1: of all, I am a member Omega Sci Fi Fraternity Incorporated.
- 29:29Speaker 1: And I was reading your bio and you are a
- 29:31Speaker 1: member of a k A. I am a proud member
- 29:35Speaker 1: of Alpha Capital Authority Incorporated. Well for thirty years. I
- 29:40Speaker 1: just celebrated my thirty year anniversary. Actually, well that's awesome.
- 29:46Speaker 1: It's so funny because I I I playsed in eighty
- 29:49Speaker 1: one eighty one, so I got a few years in
- 29:53Speaker 1: the in the fraternal world over you, which is cool.
- 29:55Speaker 1: And I got got my for the New Year's City
- 29:57Speaker 1: celebration flying uh for my like three lion brothers and
- 30:01Speaker 1: another fraternity brother. We won't spend New Year's Eve together
- 30:03Speaker 1: in Atlanta. Just a part of life. You know, these
- 30:05Speaker 1: people that you don't know, you go to college and
- 30:08Speaker 1: they become a part of your your emotional base for
- 30:11Speaker 1: the rest of your life. And that's why I wanted
- 30:13Speaker 1: to bring that up. And because I know you you
- 30:15Speaker 1: feel the same way. It's uh, you know it is.
- 30:19Speaker 1: It is really a gift Um disuthroty. I really get
- 30:22Speaker 1: emotionally even talking about it. My line sisters mean everything
- 30:26Speaker 1: to me. We have been through so much together. We
- 30:30Speaker 1: continue to have a bond after thirty years, and that's
- 30:33Speaker 1: what the beauty of it um is. We went to
- 30:35Speaker 1: a homecoming we played that I played at Hampton University,
- 30:39Speaker 1: proud member of Gamma Stata chapter, and we went back
- 30:43Speaker 1: for homecoming this year and uh last pride eate together.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Had just a great time spending time just catching up
- 30:52Speaker 1: and we picked right back up where where we you know,
- 30:54Speaker 1: where we were thirty years ago. But what we do
- 30:57Speaker 1: is really just try to be there for one another
- 30:59Speaker 1: because those those that our friendships and bonds are truly
- 31:02Speaker 1: truly priceless. It's really great when I hear you talk
- 31:06Speaker 1: like this, my executive producer of money making conversation. She's
- 31:09Speaker 1: a graduate of Hampton. So as soon as you say
- 31:11Speaker 1: to Hampton, you know she started dancing in the boom. Okay,
- 31:14Speaker 1: let you know that every time, and I'm tearing it's
- 31:17Speaker 1: your Hampton has got it going on because and if
- 31:19Speaker 1: you're a lot of successful Keptonians, Keptonians, you know she
- 31:23Speaker 1: corrected me. Hamptonians got it going on. So let's let's
- 31:27Speaker 1: move on from your pro graduate of HBCU boom, a
- 31:31Speaker 1: proud member of Africa AFA saty and cooperated from Hampton
- 31:36Speaker 1: University thirty years in fact. So let's talk about your
- 31:40Speaker 1: role as Vice President of Multicultural Leadership for African American
- 31:44Speaker 1: Black Strategy and Outreach at a ARP. What exactly is that?
- 31:49Speaker 1: So I am immensely blessed to U lead our African
- 31:53Speaker 1: American and Black strategy work at a ARP. I've have
- 31:57Speaker 1: been um uh colleague here at a PEEP about four
- 32:01Speaker 1: years now and this role is really sometimes I have
- 32:05Speaker 1: to pench myself for Sean. It really gives me the
- 32:07Speaker 1: opportunity to um really share my my strengths, my talent,
- 32:14Speaker 1: my guests that I've been given that to really share
- 32:17Speaker 1: information to have the African American audience. I remember my twenties,
- 32:21Speaker 1: this guy approached me. It was a co worker, and
- 32:24Speaker 1: he was saying, Rashan, and you needed just say fifty
- 32:26Speaker 1: dollars a month, right, you know. And that was a
- 32:28Speaker 1: struggle for me. Fifty dollars really, you know, because I couldn't.
- 32:32Speaker 1: I couldn't. It was a struggle for me because I
- 32:34Speaker 1: can see what fifty dollars will grow to, you know what,
- 32:39Speaker 1: what what the opportunity. And they're realizing that that it's
- 32:43Speaker 1: all about accumulation, and it's all about dollar cost averaging
- 32:45Speaker 1: is all about participating. So if you're saving a thousand
- 32:49Speaker 1: dollars a year, just say, if you say a thousand
- 32:51Speaker 1: dollars for thirty years, that's thirty thou dollars. Okay, there's
- 32:55Speaker 1: thirty dollars. That's a lot of money, okay when you
- 32:58Speaker 1: when you look at it. And so the process that
- 33:00Speaker 1: you're talking about is the same thing. And so just
- 33:03Speaker 1: start and then you can go online and you can
- 33:06Speaker 1: see how the growth of your investment can happen if
- 33:10Speaker 1: you do it a certain way correct, right, and and
- 33:13Speaker 1: that's the beauty of it. Um And I again, I
- 33:16Speaker 1: also want to to think Kelly and the team and
- 33:19Speaker 1: enjoy collective. It was just rewarding working on the campaign
- 33:23Speaker 1: UM with UM just amazingly talented black women UM from Joy,
- 33:28Speaker 1: from the director, the production company. It was truly a
- 33:33Speaker 1: campaign created black by black women for black women that
- 33:36Speaker 1: really felt passionate about this because what we know is
- 33:40Speaker 1: that African American black women, we typically have to work
- 33:44Speaker 1: seven to eight months to earn what our white male
- 33:47Speaker 1: counterpart to make in one year. And so we know
- 33:50Speaker 1: that equity paid gap. So in addition to the information
- 33:55Speaker 1: not getting to the communities UM at the same rate
- 33:59Speaker 1: or it was the same access that other communities can get,
- 34:02Speaker 1: we also know that there's a take gap that exists.
- 34:05Speaker 1: And so if we don't start sharing this information now
- 34:08Speaker 1: and empowering black women, then will continue to have that gap.
- 34:13Speaker 1: And so that's really the design of the campaign. And
- 34:16Speaker 1: when you go online again, it's a free uh three
- 34:19Speaker 1: minutes digital coaching sessions. I'm online, I'm reading it right now,
- 34:23Speaker 1: I'm online. Friend, it's trying to pay yourself more for retirement.
- 34:27Speaker 1: A free three minute chat the friendly digital retirement coach
- 34:31Speaker 1: will give you the tips you need to help boost
- 34:33Speaker 1: your savings oh this is this is looking good already,
- 34:36Speaker 1: I'll she wrote, right, and we will. And we again
- 34:40Speaker 1: wanted to make sure that black women that we see
- 34:43Speaker 1: ourselves in our ads, and we do that across a RP.
- 34:47Speaker 1: As I mentioned, we have a full multicultural team, and
- 34:50Speaker 1: in in our ads and our creative materials, we want
- 34:53Speaker 1: to make sure that it's resonating and that it's culturally relevant,
- 34:57Speaker 1: that it speaks to our audiences. And that's what this
- 35:01Speaker 1: campaign tribute to, she rose does. It really honors black women.
- 35:05Speaker 1: And you'll see in the different uh, the different creative ads,
- 35:09Speaker 1: whether it's the mom cooking and taking care of her family,
- 35:13Speaker 1: whether she's the wife, or whether it's um, you know,
- 35:16Speaker 1: a woman who's coming from work and has a side
- 35:19Speaker 1: hustle and and and you know the yoga and the
- 35:21Speaker 1: community center that eventually, you know, is able to save
- 35:25Speaker 1: and get her own uh you know yoga studio, and
- 35:28Speaker 1: that's sort of you know, her her turning her passion,
- 35:31Speaker 1: you know, into her purpose. UM. I love the campaign.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Just hearing you talk about the campaign because they're talking
- 35:37Speaker 1: about entrepreneurship. It's talking about it's talking about the fourty
- 35:41Speaker 1: hour week mom. You know what I'm saying the responsibility
- 35:44Speaker 1: of delivery and being responsible. But the thing about it
- 35:47Speaker 1: when I went to the website, you know, it's called
- 35:49Speaker 1: ww dot a sure timent dot org for slass Hero.
- 35:54Speaker 1: You know, I saw three different women there and one
- 35:57Speaker 1: of the women were younger, was a young young And
- 36:00Speaker 1: I bring that up because it's you know, I got
- 36:02Speaker 1: a twenty to your daughter. I constantly talked to her
- 36:05Speaker 1: and just just give her information because that information when
- 36:08Speaker 1: you're telling younger person, young person something, they might not
- 36:10Speaker 1: get it, but hopefully a year or the five years
- 36:13Speaker 1: in that process of but trying to figure it out,
- 36:17Speaker 1: they will get it. And so I saw that photo
- 36:20Speaker 1: as what you're trying to say. You're saying, look what's sean.
- 36:24Speaker 1: We were creating a campaign so we can capture generational
- 36:27Speaker 1: people so they can move forward and they all win,
- 36:31Speaker 1: and not just a person who's near retirement, a person
- 36:34Speaker 1: who's past retirement. We're trying to educate people by by

- 42:18Speaker 1: very happy. We joked around a little bit before we
- 42:20Speaker 1: got on the air. She's from the Bronx to Broadway,
- 42:23Speaker 1: but young. She's traveled to over fifty countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe,
- 42:31Speaker 1: North America and the Caribbean, sharing her amazing singing gift.
- 42:35Speaker 1: Now I'm tell you right now, I can't sing, so
- 42:37Speaker 1: you know right there, you know we won't be sharing
- 42:39Speaker 1: any duets on this show, I can tell you right now.
- 42:41Speaker 1: Her success has landed her in the national media by
- 42:44Speaker 1: television appearances on OPRAH, TBN, and manymore. She was co
- 42:48Speaker 1: star and highly anticipated Broadway musical Girl from the North Country,
- 42:52Speaker 1: which is inspired by and features the music of my
- 42:55Speaker 1: Man Bob Dylan. The play begins previews on February seven
- 42:59Speaker 1: at the Belasco Theater in New York City. Please welcome
- 43:03Speaker 1: to Money Making Conversation Jeannette Byrdel. Hello, how will you?
- 43:08Speaker 1: Thank you so much for happening me today. First of all,
- 43:11Speaker 1: did my intro hit your status? Did? Did I get
- 43:14Speaker 1: you there? Jeanette? Did I hit? Did I lay you
- 43:16Speaker 1: out right? That's why I need to make it right.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Thank you. I appreciate this well, you know, because first
- 43:22Speaker 1: of all, you know I'm going through your bio. And
- 43:24Speaker 1: first of all, you know all my guests are I
- 43:27Speaker 1: consider you a neglected guest because of the fact that
- 43:29Speaker 1: your worldly. You know, you know, you know I can't
- 43:32Speaker 1: pigeonhold you. You know you you're singer you travel around
- 43:35Speaker 1: the world. You performed for dignitaries like the Obama's you know,
- 43:40Speaker 1: ministers like Bishop T. D. Jake's and so you know,
- 43:44Speaker 1: you know, interviewed and performed in front of OPRAH. This
- 43:47Speaker 1: is a high level of of entertainment and performance level.
- 43:52Speaker 1: What drives you? That would be my first question just
- 43:55Speaker 1: start off interviews. What drives you at this point in
- 43:58Speaker 1: your life. It's two level, it's too let me let me,
- 44:01Speaker 1: let me step back because I've never asked that question before.
- 44:03Speaker 1: What drove you too in the beginning? And what drives
- 44:07Speaker 1: you now? Okay? UM, what you old me in the
- 44:10Speaker 1: beginning is I had a passion um, a passion for singing,
- 44:14Speaker 1: and um a passion to entertain. So at a young
- 44:18Speaker 1: age I started singing. I grew up in the Bronx
- 44:21Speaker 1: and UM, I went to high school performing arts. Now, ironically,
- 44:25Speaker 1: you know I could sing, I could always sing. But
- 44:28Speaker 1: when I was coming up, I wanted to like wrap.
- 44:31Speaker 1: I wanted to be a rapper. That was my thing.
- 44:35Speaker 1: The first of all, I have to Can you wrap? Though?
- 44:37Speaker 1: Maybe rap? Maybe because you could wrap put you back
- 44:40Speaker 1: to singing. No, I could definitely wrap. Definitely. I thought
- 44:44Speaker 1: I was gonna be like the next empty light, you know,
- 44:48Speaker 1: the next clean light to you for a way to me,
- 44:50Speaker 1: I might be aging myself. But you know, because I
- 44:52Speaker 1: was young when I was listening to them, and I
- 44:55Speaker 1: felt like, you know, that's that's what I wanted to do.
- 44:57Speaker 1: So through high school I was rapping, and when I
- 45:00Speaker 1: got to the mcguality has to the performing once, I
- 45:02Speaker 1: was still rapping. But then I was surrounded by a
- 45:05Speaker 1: bunch of people who were just really talented. They could sing,
- 45:08Speaker 1: they could dance, they can act. And it's there that
- 45:11Speaker 1: I caught the Broadway bugs because Broadway wasn't even in
- 45:15Speaker 1: my mind at all. It's not something that I grew
- 45:18Speaker 1: up with or anything but class audition crap at the body.
- 45:24Speaker 1: It was an left arm spoken night. And once I
- 45:26Speaker 1: took that class, they showed up how to get child
- 45:28Speaker 1: and we had to like one of our assignments was
- 45:30Speaker 1: to go on the audition. We they say, show us
- 45:33Speaker 1: how to use this magazine. It was backstage magazine. It
- 45:35Speaker 1: was like the Hall copy at the time, and they
- 45:37Speaker 1: were like, you know, find an audition going on it.
- 45:39Speaker 1: And I did it, and I actually booked what I
- 45:41Speaker 1: went on, and after that it was like, oh, goad,
- 45:44Speaker 1: I just loved theater. So that's how I started, and
- 45:47Speaker 1: then I just I stayed um passionate and I just
- 45:50Speaker 1: pursued it. I mean, well there's a story in between
- 45:53Speaker 1: that health science. I said, the backlists and health science
- 45:57Speaker 1: because it was like that was my backup plan just
- 45:59Speaker 1: in case things didn't work out. And thank god, I
- 46:01Speaker 1: never needed my backup plan because after I graduated, I
- 46:04Speaker 1: worked at Corporate America for like six months and then
- 46:06Speaker 1: I ended up and singing full time. You know, it's
- 46:10Speaker 1: really interesting because you know, my backup plan was I
- 46:13Speaker 1: got a degree in mathematics, work for IBM, and you know,
- 46:17Speaker 1: you know, so I don't even think it's a backup player.
- 46:19Speaker 1: I think that that's you know, people in life till
- 46:21Speaker 1: they kind of like push you in the direction where
- 46:23Speaker 1: they understand. You know, so you don't understand singers, then't
- 46:26Speaker 1: understand actors, they understand comedians, they understand Hey, you know,
- 46:30Speaker 1: go eight to five for the hours a week, you
- 46:33Speaker 1: go to college, you get a job, and that's what
- 46:35Speaker 1: you did. That's what I like, But that wasn't your passion,
- 46:37Speaker 1: that wasn't what you excited you that you know, you
- 46:40Speaker 1: go to work, and you see people really kind of
- 46:42Speaker 1: like going through the motions and most of them complaining
- 46:44Speaker 1: about where they're at and not really excited about the
- 46:47Speaker 1: next step. And I always felt that if I could
- 46:50Speaker 1: see what's going to happen tomorrow in my life, then
- 46:53Speaker 1: that's not the job I wanted to do, right, And
- 46:56Speaker 1: so when I would go to work and there's nothing
- 46:58Speaker 1: negative where I work, great people, but I knew what
- 47:00Speaker 1: I was going to do tomorrow, I knew what I
- 47:02Speaker 1: was gonna do next week, that was not the future
- 47:04Speaker 1: for me. I needed that I needed to work in
- 47:07Speaker 1: an environment or career where I didn't know I did.
- 47:11Speaker 1: I knew there was a great opportunity tot, but I
- 47:13Speaker 1: didn't know me. I had to work hard. And I
- 47:16Speaker 1: think that's the same drive that's inside you as well. Yeah,
- 47:21Speaker 1: it's it's funny because one thing I'm happy about. I
- 47:24Speaker 1: feel like my college experience definitely prepared me for the
- 47:28Speaker 1: industry because I would tell you, as an actress, you're
- 47:31Speaker 1: always in school. Guess you know why you used to
- 47:33Speaker 1: be so disciplined because you're always learning lines, you're always
- 47:36Speaker 1: doing the research. It's like college never ended, right. But
- 47:41Speaker 1: I'm happy that I had to have that discipline because
- 47:43Speaker 1: it's not it's not easy. My family and friends are
- 47:46Speaker 1: always like, I didn't even memorize this stuff, like how
- 47:49Speaker 1: are you doing this research? And like and I'm also
- 47:51Speaker 1: a writer. I wrote it. Um Um. I wrote a
- 47:54Speaker 1: musical entitled Cheetah that ran off Broadway. We traveled about
- 47:58Speaker 1: the world. We just got back from London ago. We
- 48:00Speaker 1: were there for five weeks. We did thirty nine shows.
- 48:04Speaker 1: But um, even with my process in writing that musical,
- 48:07Speaker 1: people are always like, how did you do with the
- 48:09Speaker 1: research and the And I'm like, oh, yeah, well, you know,
- 48:12Speaker 1: I feel like if you went to college, you can
- 48:14Speaker 1: you can do this stuff. It's research to take time
- 48:17Speaker 1: and take discipline, and I have all those things and
- 48:20Speaker 1: that definitely helps us my competition of Janette, you really,
- 48:23Speaker 1: you know you really because you're gifted. Let's go first
- 48:26Speaker 1: of all, say that true enough. And your discipline, let's
- 48:30Speaker 1: say that too, because I always tell people that in
- 48:32Speaker 1: order to be successful, you have to be consistent, you
- 48:34Speaker 1: have to be disciplined, and you have to be fearless.
- 48:37Speaker 1: You just casually win. You know. It started off Broadway
- 48:39Speaker 1: and then they went to London. Okay, come stop, you know. Yeah,
- 48:46Speaker 1: people just try to get off Broadway. Now you're in
- 48:48Speaker 1: London at the same time, ran five weeks over there. Congratulations, congratulations,
- 48:52Speaker 1: thank you, and it was it was it was pretty amazing.
- 48:57Speaker 1: And the reception that we got in London, and the
- 48:59Speaker 1: other is that our producers we um, we did something
- 49:05Speaker 1: that was very smart. We did well if they did
- 49:07Speaker 1: something that was very smart. Um. We actually recorded it
- 49:12Speaker 1: for film for TV and it's just amazing and it's
- 49:16Speaker 1: just it's it's there's nothing like it. And I were
- 49:21Speaker 1: really excited about it, and I'm just excited that it
- 49:24Speaker 1: was captured. What we did in London was captures and
- 49:26Speaker 1: not the world can see it and have aspects to it.
- 49:29Speaker 1: It's only be a matter of time. Your prime out
- 49:31Speaker 1: there Amazon, you know all these days. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 49:36Speaker 1: I'm so excited for the future of that show. Um,
- 49:39Speaker 1: and I'm also excited about what's happened to a Girl
- 49:41Speaker 1: from the North Country. You. I got a chance to
- 49:47Speaker 1: spend forty minutes about ling and it was amazing. He
- 49:51Speaker 1: was so he was so um appreciative of the work
- 49:57Speaker 1: that we've done on stage, Um, of the work that
- 49:59Speaker 1: I did a my character and the song that I say.
- 50:01Speaker 1: He complimented the song and I was like, he's like,
- 50:04Speaker 1: you know, I think the song for True Up. He's like,
- 50:06Speaker 1: you know, true is that song is really good. And
- 50:08Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, you know, that's that's all I'm saying.
- 50:10Speaker 1: He's like, yes, I know, I know. But he's just
- 50:14Speaker 1: so wonderful. And it's sometimes you hear about these legends
- 50:17Speaker 1: and you think they're like, oh, they're not gonna be
- 50:19Speaker 1: sunnily and they're gonna be strange. He was just just
- 50:22Speaker 1: just great, amazing down the earth, and I felt like
- 50:25Speaker 1: I could talk to him all day. Well, it's really
- 50:27Speaker 1: interesting because he's you know, well you first of all,
- 50:30Speaker 1: you you're talking to history. That's that's that's the amazing
- 50:33Speaker 1: part of the conversation. I know when I met Elton John,
- 50:36Speaker 1: and then just just being in the presence of Muhammad
- 50:38Speaker 1: ali Uh. You know, you want to you want to
- 50:43Speaker 1: be able to ask so many questions because they've been
- 50:46Speaker 1: through so many different steps and the courageous steps in
- 50:49Speaker 1: their lives, you know, because you know every journey. I
- 50:52Speaker 1: always say, every decade holds a different journey for each individual,
- 50:56Speaker 1: and so they've lived so many decades and so when
- 50:58Speaker 1: you meet the person like Bob Dylan, you know, you know,
- 51:01Speaker 1: wow talk about the sixties, okay, you know, and and
- 51:05Speaker 1: and and to go through that. Did you ask him
- 51:07Speaker 1: any question or just just experienced the moment with him
- 51:10Speaker 1: and accepted the compliment. How was it? It was so interesting? Um.
- 51:15Speaker 1: It was at his concert and me and Um one
- 51:18Speaker 1: of the other stars of Girlfriends in the North Country
- 51:20Speaker 1: man winning him who is amazing in the show. It
- 51:24Speaker 1: was the two of us that were with him in
- 51:25Speaker 1: his dressing room. And I have to tell you first
- 51:29Speaker 1: it was it was for real, and I was trying
- 51:31Speaker 1: to take in every moment. And it's funny because I
- 51:34Speaker 1: felt like everything that came out on my mom is
- 51:36Speaker 1: just like insignificant because I was just so like I
- 51:42Speaker 1: was trying to take in every moment. What's the room
- 51:44Speaker 1: was like what he was saying, you know, and I did.
- 51:47Speaker 1: I asked a couple of questions about Um, about the
- 51:51Speaker 1: songs that he wrote, like, um, there's a song that
- 51:53Speaker 1: I've send called um Um it's the um Gypsy. I
- 52:00Speaker 1: see they did see. Okay, I can't think of the
- 52:02Speaker 1: song right now, but well February seven, the previous starts,
- 52:07Speaker 1: so you will be on pin by that not just
- 52:09Speaker 1: tell us basically Girl from the North Country. What exactly
- 52:12Speaker 1: is that Girl from the North Country. Well, that's one
- 52:15Speaker 1: of the songs that he wrote the musical entitled Girl
- 52:19Speaker 1: from the North Country. So this this music, guest, the
- 52:21Speaker 1: music is based on Bob Dylan. Um, the music is
- 52:25Speaker 1: from Bob Dylan, but the story is not Bob Dylan's story.
- 52:28Speaker 1: It takes place in his hometown. But it was written
- 52:31Speaker 1: by one of the best play rights um e Conomic
- 52:34Speaker 1: fear Sense. And what he did was he wrote a
- 52:37Speaker 1: play and the music compliments the play. The music is
- 52:41Speaker 1: like a soundtrack to the play. So it's almost like
- 52:45Speaker 1: watching the movie. So the music is not driving, it's
- 52:48Speaker 1: not it's not moving before the stories forwards, but it's
- 52:52Speaker 1: given you the emotions of the character. Wow. You know,
- 52:56Speaker 1: it's different in that sense. Like most Juice Box musicals
- 52:59Speaker 1: the songs, right, they trying to make the songs part
- 53:02Speaker 1: of the story and have the songs tell the story.
- 53:05Speaker 1: But that's not the case here. It's like watching the
- 53:09Speaker 1: movie and then you hear the songs that come on
- 53:10Speaker 1: that compliment the scenes and the emotions of the character. Amazing.
- 53:16Speaker 1: I'm talking to Jeanette by adell correct by your all right, Yes,
- 53:22Speaker 1: I'm still rolling with I'm still rocking with that name.
- 53:24Speaker 1: So she is. She's co starring and highly anticipated Broadway
- 53:28Speaker 1: musical Girl from the North Country, which is inspired by
