- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarfl Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. What if the driverless car pulling up
- 0:19to your curb and the sudden disappearance of
- 0:21your company's middle management are, well, actually
- 0:25the exact same story? Right. Today, we're tracking
- 0:28the billions of dollars actively moving right
- 0:30now to replace human labor from the sunny streets
- 0:34of Miami to you know the highest levels of corporate
- 0:37finance Welcome to connecting the dots the daily
- 0:40tech show from snarfle solutions group right
- 0:43here in Sacramento, California I'm Alex. And
- 0:45I'm Morgan. And it is Thursday, March 19th, 2026.
- 0:49Looking out the studio window, it looks like
- 0:51Sacramento is finally burning off that heavy
- 0:52morning fog. Yeah. And we're heading for a high
- 0:55of 91 degrees today, which is, I mean, it's incredibly
- 0:58warm for mid -mark. Extremely warm. And the broader
- 1:01picture for you tuning in across the country
- 1:03is just as extreme. Oh, absolutely. We've got
- 1:05this unusual, intense early spring heat wave
- 1:08baking the entire Southwest U .S. right now.
- 1:11Plus, if you are tuning in from the central Rockies
- 1:13or or the Plains, the National Weather Service
- 1:16is tracking critical fire weather. We're talking
- 1:18really gusty winds paired with low humidity lasting
- 1:21through Saturday. So please be incredibly careful
- 1:24out there. Yeah, definitely stay safe and stay
- 1:26hydrated. Now, on the sports front, we do have
- 1:29a quick groan for the local fans. The SF Giants
- 1:33dropped their game to the Dodgers yesterday 1
- 1:35-5. Shohei Otani picked up the win on the mound
- 1:38and Freddie Freeman hit a home run. So just a
- 1:41tough day for the Orange and Black. A very tough
- 1:43day. And a tough day for the markets too. They
- 1:45took quite a hit yesterday. The Dow closed down
- 1:48over 334 points, settling at 45 ,800. The S &P
- 1:53500 slipped by 21 points. And you know, the crypto
- 1:56markets weren't spared either. Bitcoin took a
- 1:59nearly $2 ,000 tumble. dropping all the way down
- 2:02to 69 ,320. Which is honestly a lifesaver. That
- 2:32Ashwagandha actually helps smooth out the caffeine
- 2:34curve when you're staring at screens all day,
- 2:36you know, tracking these market swings. Oh, it's
- 2:38a total game changer. All right. Let's get into
- 2:40the core of today's show. We are opening up the
- 2:42Morningstar. All right. Our Snarfle Tech article
- 2:44report. Exactly. And today we're looking at three
- 2:47major top stories. The common thread here isn't
- 2:50just that futuristic tech is advancing in the
- 2:52lab somewhere. It's that these companies are
- 2:54aggressively deploying it to reshape everyday
- 2:57life and business. Like right now. The timeline
- 3:00for the future just keeps shrinking. I mean,
- 3:02companies are moving from that theoretical testing
- 3:04phase to massive multi -billion dollar operational
- 3:08deployments. And they are doing it with stunning
- 3:11speed. Yeah. So let's jump into our first story,
- 3:13which is a perfect example of this. Yeah. Uber
- 3:16is making a colossal bet on the future of ride
- 3:19sharing. A massive bet. They are investing up
- 3:22to $1 .25 billion into EV maker Rivian to deploy
- 3:27up to 50 ,000 Level 4 robo -taxis by the year
- 3:322031. Which is wild. And to put that timeline
- 3:35in perspective, the rollout starts with a $300
- 3:37million initial investment right at signing.
- 3:40Right. The roadmap they've laid out is that by
- 3:422028, they plan to put 10 ,000 autonomous Rivian
- 3:45R2 vehicles exclusively on the Uber app. And
- 3:49they're kicking things off in San Francisco and
- 3:50Miami, right? Exactly. San Francisco and Miami
- 3:53first. You know, looking at Uber's broader strategy
- 3:55of the last few years, this looks a lot like
- 3:57the Apple App Store model. Oh, that's a good
- 3:59comparison. How so? Well, Apple doesn't make
- 4:02every app on your phone, right? They just provide
- 4:04the universal network that everything runs on
- 4:06and they collect the toll. Uber doesn't actually
- 4:10want to bend metal or build factories. Right.
- 4:12Bending metal is a low margin, high risk business.
- 4:15Exactly. It's what the industry calls heavy capex
- 4:17or capital expenditure. Uber wants to be the
- 4:21high margin software layer. They want to be the
- 4:23ultimate demand network. So let Rivian burn the
- 4:26cash building the cars, and Uber just owns the
- 4:29riders. Precisely. And this isn't an isolated
- 4:32deal for them. I mean, they've made similar packs
- 4:34with Lucid, Volkswagen, and autonomous startups
- 4:37like Wave. Because they offer these automakers
- 4:40an irresistible sweetener. They're basically
- 4:42saying you figure out the hardware and we give
- 4:44you instant access to hundreds of millions of
- 4:47riders globally. I totally see the upside for
- 4:49Uber here. But looking at Rivian's side of the
- 4:52equation, I have to be skeptical. Yeah, you don't
- 4:55think they can pull it off? Are they actually
- 4:57ready to deliver on this? Because looking at
- 4:59the report Rivian's autonomous capabilities seem
- 5:02largely theoretical right now. That's a fair
- 5:05point. Like, they rolled out a universal hands
- 5:07-free feature last year, which is, you know,
- 5:09basically just advanced cruise control, but they
- 5:11aren't even scheduled to add the crucial lidar
- 5:13sensors to the R2 until later in 2026. Which
- 5:17is the massive engineering hurdle here. For anyone
- 5:19listening who might be unfamiliar, lidar uses
- 5:21invisible lasers to build a real time, highly
- 5:25precise 3D map of the world around the car. It
- 5:30bounces light off objects to measure exact distances.
- 5:33Whereas standard cameras just capture flat 2D
- 5:36pixels and try to guess the depth. Right. Which
- 5:38can be fooled by shadows or reflections. LiDAR
- 5:41is wildly expensive, but it is an absolute requirement
- 5:44for level four autonomy. And we should probably
- 5:46clarify what level four actually means because
- 5:48it's a very specific industry term. Go for it.
- 5:51It doesn't mean the car can drive absolutely
- 5:53anywhere in any condition. That would be level
- 5:555. Level four means the car is fully autonomous
- 5:58with no human intervention needed, but only within
- 6:01specific geofenced areas or under certain weather
- 6:04conditions. Right. So deploying 10 ,000 level
- 6:06four cars in complex urban environments like
- 6:09San Francisco and Miami by 2028 is, well, it's
- 6:13incredibly ambitious. Extremely. Especially without
- 6:15LIDAR currently integrated into the vehicles.
- 6:18Rivian is burning cash fast. So that $300 million
- 6:21initial injection from Uber, it softens the blow.
- 6:25But it certainly doesn't solve the core engineering
- 6:27challenge. It buys them a little more runway,
- 6:30but it doesn't buy them the finished algorithm.
- 6:32And Uber knows this, too. Their investment is
- 6:34strictly contingent on Rivian meeting specific
- 6:37autonomy milestones. If Rivian can't get that
- 6:40light or integrated and the software stack perfected,
- 6:43the rest of that 1 .25 billion never materializes.
- 6:46But if they do hit those milestones, the plan
- 6:48is to expand to 25 cities across the U .S., Canada
- 6:51and Europe by 2031. Which completely changes
- 6:54everything for you and me. Oh, absolutely. Think
- 6:57about your own daily commute or your next trip
- 6:59to the airport. In just a couple of years, ordering
- 7:01a ride isn't going to mean making polite small
- 7:04talk with a driver who's navigating morning traffic.
- 7:06No, it means an empty custom integrated AI vehicle
- 7:09silently pulling up to your curb. It completely
- 7:13alters the social contract of transportation
- 7:15and fundamentally. It highlights a massive shift
- 7:19in human labor. Right, because Uber currently
- 7:22relies on millions of human drivers worldwide.
- 7:25As they push to become the universal network
- 7:27for robo -taxes, the role of the human driver
- 7:29begins to systematically evaporate. Exactly.
- 7:32Uber is actively automating physical labor on
- 7:35the roads. But the exact same math is being applied
- 7:38to knowledge workers behind a desk. It really
- 7:40is. If you think sitting in a corporate office
- 7:42protects you from the robo -taxi effect, just
- 7:44look at what happened at crypto .com this week.
- 7:46Yeah, let's move to our second story. Crypto
- 7:49.com just announced a pretty brutal workforce
- 7:52reduction. They have slashed roughly 12 % of
- 7:54their global staff. Which equates to about 180
- 7:57roles wiped out. Right. But CEO Chris Marzelek
- 8:00didn't dress this up as a standard macroeconomic
- 8:03adjustment. He explicitly stated, this is a strategic
- 8:06pivot to enterprise -wide AI. He actually posted
- 8:09a stock warning on social media saying, and I
- 8:12quote, companies that do not make this pivot
- 8:14immediately will fail. The language is incredibly
- 8:16aggressive. He also noted that roles which do
- 8:19not adapt to this new AI -driven operational
- 8:22model were the specific targets for elimination.
- 8:25So it isn't framed as the company running out
- 8:27of money. It's framed as fundamentally redesigning
- 8:30how the company operates from the ground up.
- 8:32Exactly. Okay, but stop me there because I have
- 8:34to view this with a healthy dose of skepticism.
- 8:36I don't blame you. crypto companies slash staff
- 8:39all the time when the market dips. We are looking
- 8:42at an industry facing serious macroeconomic headwinds
- 8:46right now, like crypto .com itself already cut
- 8:4920 % of its staff back in 2023. True. So how
- 8:52do we know AI integration isn't just a shiny
- 8:55new trendy PR shield for standard corporate cost
- 8:58cutting? I mean, that skepticism is totally warranted.
- 9:00Pivoting to AI is the most convenient excuse
- 9:03in the tech world right now for trimming headcount.
- 9:05However, Marslech is putting serious, undeniable
- 9:08capital behind this rhetoric. Just last month,
- 9:11in February, Crypto .com spent $70 million to
- 9:15purchase the domain name AI .com. Wait, $70 million
- 9:19for a URL? Yeah. You do not spend $70 million
- 9:23on a domain name if you are just trying to casually
- 9:26trim your quarterly payroll to appease board
- 9:28members. That's a fair point. That is a massive
- 9:31structural commitment to a new business model.
- 9:34Marsilek's philosophy is that pairing the best
- 9:36AI tools with top human performers achieves a
- 9:40level of scale and precision that was previously
- 9:42impossible. Wow. So think about your own office
- 9:45right now. What Crypto .com is doing is sending
- 9:49a warning shot to the entire market. Absolutely.
- 9:52AI isn't just a fun chatbot you play with to
- 9:54write a polite email to your landlord anymore.
- 9:56It is an active, aggressive mandate in the workplace.
- 10:00If your role can be automated or if you cannot
- 10:02actively manage AI to 10x your output, Your job
- 10:06is the bottleneck. It completely rewrites the
- 10:08definition of human capital I mean in the past
- 10:10you grew your company by hiring more analysts
- 10:12more marketers more middle managers And now now
- 10:14leadership views human headcount as a liability
- 10:17They want a small elite team of human directors
- 10:21guiding massive fleets of autonomous AI agents
- 10:25Instead of writing your report yourself. You
- 10:27are auditing the output of 10 AI agents writing
- 10:3010 different reports It's the exact same dynamic
- 10:33is the uber story Just wearing a suit. Exactly.
- 10:36Instead of a fleet of empty cars navigating the
- 10:39streets of Miami, it's a fleet of invisible algorithms
- 10:42processing financial data. Which brings up a
- 10:44fascinating contradiction, actually. At the exact
- 10:46same moment that crypto .com is aggressively
- 10:49shrinking its human workforce, It is making a
- 10:52massive historic expansion into traditional finance.
- 10:55Oh, this is a huge deal. This is our third major
- 10:57story from the Morningstar report. Crypto .com
- 10:59recently secured conditional approval from the
- 11:02U .S. Office of the Controller of the Currency,
- 11:04the OCC, to establish a national trust bank.
- 11:07Right. And to understand why that is a massive
- 11:09deal, we need to look at what the RCC actually
- 11:12does. They are the federal agency that charters
- 11:15and regulates national banks. So this conditional
- 11:18approval paves the way for crypto .com to offer
- 11:20federally regulated digital asset custody and
- 11:23trade settlement. And just to be clear for everyone
- 11:25listening, we need to add a quick. Note here,
- 11:28this federal approval came just weeks after the
- 11:31firm donated five million dollars to a pro -Trump
- 11:35super peaks. And we want to strictly state that
- 11:37we are impartially reporting the facts from the
- 11:40source material here. Absolutely. We are not
- 11:43endorsing any political viewpoints or sides.
- 11:46We are simply reporting the timeline of events
- 11:48to show how crypto companies are actively navigating
- 11:51Washington to achieve federal integration. Because
- 11:55that navigation is the whole story. The crypto
- 11:57industry has been over a decade operating on
- 11:59the fringes of traditional finance. Yeah, it's
- 12:01been a mess. They've dealt with a messy patchwork
- 12:03of state by state money transmitter licenses,
- 12:06constant regulatory friction, and a general lack
- 12:08of trust from massive institutional investors.
- 12:11Right. By engaging deeply with the political
- 12:13system and securing a charter from the OCC, they
- 12:16are locking down the ultimate prize, which is
- 12:18federal integration. Which means the era of crypto
- 12:22being this rebellious anti -establishment wild
- 12:25west is ending. I mean, Crypto .com has 100 million
- 12:29registered accounts. They did $750 billion in
- 12:33trading volume in 2025. They aren't a noosh internet
- 12:37forum anymore. They are stepping right into the
- 12:40federally regulated banking system that you use
- 12:42to pay your mortgage and buy your groceries.
- 12:45It legitimizes the entire asset class for you
- 12:47and me. A national trust bank charter means they
- 12:50can act as a fiduciary. Right. If they can offer
- 12:52federally regulated digital asset custody, it
- 12:56means major institutional players like pension
- 12:58funds, massive corporate treasuries can park
- 13:01their assets there with the exact same confidence
- 13:03they have in traditional legacy banks like Chase
- 13:06or Bank of America. It's the ultimate maturation
- 13:09of the industry. They are firing the staff that
- 13:11can't use AI, and they are hiring the compliance
- 13:14officers that can talk to federal regulators.
- 13:16They are literally putting on the proverbial
- 13:18suit and tie. It really is a fascinating juxtaposition.
- 13:21On one hand, you have technology decentralizing
- 13:24work and pushing humans out of the driver's seat
- 13:26and the office desk. And on the other hand, you
- 13:28have that same technology. heavily centralizing
- 13:31its financial power and integrating directly
- 13:34with the oldest most established federal institutions
- 13:37we have. We have covered a lot of ground today.
- 13:40But before we start the closing segment, we need
- 13:41to mention our sponsor Old Glory, an iconic music
- 13:45and sports fan merch store, which is great stuff
- 13:47for your techie friend. If listeners use promo
- 13:50code SNARFUL at checkout, you can get 15 % off
- 13:53your entire purchase. The website is oldglory
- 13:56.com. Always nice to find a spot that has something
- 13:59physical and unique, especially when, you know,
- 14:02everything else we've talked about today is becoming
- 14:04so automated. Exactly. Speaking of which, let's
- 14:07take a step back and briefly recap the real -world
- 14:09impact of today's Morningstar report. Let's do
- 14:12it. We're looking at a near future where autonomous
- 14:14R2s handle your commute. Right, and where AI
- 14:18handles massive corporate data precision. And
- 14:20where your federal bank seamlessly handles your
- 14:23crypto staking right alongside your checking
- 14:25account. All three stories point to an incredibly
- 14:28efficient, highly automated world. But, you know,
- 14:31that efficiency brings up some really complex
- 14:33challenges about the role we all play in it moving
- 14:35forward. Which brings us to our final, lingering
- 14:38question for you to mull over today. We've talked
- 14:42about the physical jobs, like driving disappearing,
- 14:45and we've talked about the analytical, white
- 14:47-collar desk jobs disappearing. So if AI successfully
- 14:52achieves the scale to replace both the driver
- 14:54of your cab and the analyst at your crypto exchange,
- 14:58what entirely new industries will have to emerge
- 15:01to employ the human workforce of 2030? Man, it
- 15:04is the multi -trillion dollar question. Historically,
- 15:07technology destroys jobs that creates new ones
- 15:09we couldn't even imagine. Right. But when the
- 15:11technology can think and drive for itself, the
- 15:14nature of that next new industry is a complete
- 15:17mystery. Definitely something to think about.
