- 0:34Captures Abound. I'm Stella Ferris, and this
- 0:37is the Monster Captures Journal podcast. Today's
- 0:39episode isn't about a glyph with claws, nor is
- 0:42it about one that takes to the sky. No, today's
- 0:46glyph is, wait, what was I looking for again?
- 0:50Strange. It's right on the tip of my tongue.
- 0:53I better consult Dr. Lang's glyphopedia. Let's
- 0:56see. Nope, that's Ourobeak. Not Reaperfish either.
- 1:07Glassweb? That can't be right. Cryptoglyphs aren't
- 1:11even meant to be cataloged. Ah, here we go. Mimimir.
- 1:21How? Where do I even start? To catch a Mimir,
- 1:25we had to head east deep into the Inado Desert.
- 1:28That place is no joke, you know? sandstorms sharp
- 1:32as knives and heat like you've angered the twin
- 1:34suns themselves. At the far edge of it lies the
- 1:38crystal cavern, a vast network of naturally formed
- 1:42mirrors and living glass. Local legend says that
- 1:46if you whisper your name too loud in the tunnel
- 1:48something might whisper it back backwards. While
- 1:52Luna packs snacks like grapes stuffed with Cloudberries
- 1:57and desert melon slices. Her glyph Mernot helped
- 2:00wrap them in coiling vines. Zena double -checked
- 2:03the traps and made sure our pyramid -shaped glyphids
- 2:07were synced and powered. Ignazura, glowing with
- 2:11sapphire light, curled protectively around her
- 2:14bag. I checked my own team. Orabit perched proudly
- 2:18on my shoulder. Always ready. Kefla, my glowing
- 2:22fish, glyph. was not part of the team anymore.
- 2:26He was out of the rotations. Entrenaut, Shadowclaw,
- 2:30and Chaos Serpent. Oh, and my final glyph. And
- 2:35Neferon Blaze. They were already loaded in their
- 2:38glyphids, all except for Orabique. He sat perched
- 2:42on my shoulder. We climbed into the hovercraft
- 2:47and launched into the air. My two best friends
- 2:49by my side and the world stretched out beneath
- 2:51us. We soared across the citrine sea, its golden
- 2:55waters glittering in the sunlight like liquid
- 2:57treasure. The waves hummed with music only Kefla
- 3:01could hear. We skimmed the edges of the cursed
- 3:03woods where vines reached upward like hands desperate
- 3:06for touch. And we flew high over Luan Academy,
- 3:10our old school, our only school, and our beloved
- 3:14school. I swear I caught Professor Orient's glaring
- 3:18eyes. watching up at us as we passed. Or maybe
- 3:23it was just a mirage. To be fair, we are pretty
- 3:26ambitious. Finally, we reached the sand -scattered
- 3:29entrance to the crystal caverns. I tapped Orabik
- 3:33gently. I brought you out here early. My friend,
- 3:36I know you won't let me down. Ch -ch -koo -oo!
- 3:42Ch -ch -koo -oo! Orabik chirped for his golden
- 3:46beak. flashing in the sunlight. We trudged into
- 3:50the desert, heat swirling like ghosts around
- 3:52us. That's when the ground rumbled beneath our
- 3:55feet. Without warning, a huge bug erupted from
- 3:58the sand, a speed roller, like a massive desert
- 4:02roly -poly, plated in obsidian shelves. It curled
- 4:08and launched oars as faster than I thought possible.
- 4:11Orabi Guzfera's voice, I covered my ears, as
- 4:14I said. The screech that followed shattered a
- 4:19dune crest, halting speed rolling mid its spin.
- 4:23Mirno, stampede, Luna command it. Ignisura, gem
- 4:27slash, Xena at it. In a fury of vines, gemstones,
- 4:31and echoing roars, speed roller collapsed, dazed,
- 4:36and defeated. But as we approached the crystal
- 4:38caverns, something else began gnawing at me.
- 4:42A feeling, something not quite right. We passed
- 4:45through the narrow entrance and immediately we
- 4:47were surrounded by walls of mirrored glass. A
- 4:51reflection shimmered. Dozens of Steliferuses
- 4:55and Lunas and Xenas and their glyphs staring
- 4:57back with a slight delay. The deeper we went,
- 5:00the more distorted our images became. Some of
- 5:03them blinked when we didn't. Finally, we found
- 5:07it. A perfect mirror standing alone on a pedestal
- 5:11of broken crystal. Xena stepped forward. Is that
- 5:14it? Luna nodded. It's not a glyph in the traditional
- 5:18sense. My mirror, it's alive. Not really, but
- 5:24has intent. It remembers. I stepped towards the
- 5:28mirror, just inside the five -foot radius. That's
- 5:32when everything changed. The world rippled. The
- 5:35air turned still, and I was pulled inward. Not
- 5:38physically, not entirely, but my mind, my senses.
- 5:41I was inside. It felt like a dream. Soft grass
- 5:45underfoot glowing stars in a violet sky, but
- 5:48everything had a mirrored tint. I looked down.
- 5:51My reflection stared back from the grass itself.
- 5:54Every blade shimmered like glass. The sky was
- 5:57upside down. Stars drifting beneath my feet.
- 6:01It wasn't just a dream. It was a memory. Emotion.
- 6:06Judgment. Then I saw them. A figure ahead. walking
- 6:12slowly across the pond that reflected the moonlight
- 6:14like liquid silver. They turned and my breath
- 6:17caught in my throat. It was me, a younger version
- 6:21of me, standing beside a familiar glyph, but
- 6:24something was wrong. The glyph was Orabik, and
- 6:28it wasn't. I thought that these glyphs were supposed
- 6:32to show you your first glyph, so why was I seeing
- 6:35Orabik? Come far, they said. Voice a perfect
- 6:40echo of mine, but you forgot the promise What
- 6:44promise I asked stepping closer that you'd never
- 6:47stop being curious That you'd never forget why
- 6:50you started this journey You made it to be close
- 6:53to them to connect But now you're chasing something
- 6:59else I'm still me I said Though I wasn't sure
- 7:05I believed it I still protect them I still care
- 7:09The dark orbic stepped forward, then prove it.
- 7:12Suddenly the mirrored world warped. I was back
- 7:15in the desert, but twist it. The citrine sea
- 7:18boiled black behind me, and the sky was shattered
- 7:20like a broken dish. The young army disappeared,
- 7:23replaced by a mirrored army of distorted versions
- 7:26of all my glyphs. Cintronaut with extra limbs
- 7:29and a fractured helmet. Chaos serpent gnawed
- 7:32it and gnashing, made of smoke and teeth. Kefla
- 7:36flickered like a dying light. And in the center,
- 7:38dark or a beak, they rushed me. I didn't fight
- 7:42back. I couldn't fight back. Instead, I took
- 7:44a breath and whispered, You're part of me. I'm
- 7:46not ashamed of you. The mirrored glyph froze.
- 7:50I'm not perfect, but I love every step that brought
- 7:52me here. Even the wrong ones. Even the parts
- 7:56I still don't understand. A pause. The world
- 7:59around me began to shift. The sky turned smooth.
- 8:03The sea calmed. The broken reflections melted
- 8:05into ripples. The dark aura big nodded, then
- 8:08vanished into a burst of golden light, and I
- 8:11fell. I gasped, stumbling backwards from the
- 8:14pedestal. Luna caught me. You okay, she asked,
- 8:19wide -eyed. Xena was already scanning me with
- 8:21her glyph radar. I'm fine, I said. I was tested.
- 8:27There was a ping from my belt. One of my glyphids
- 8:29glowed softly. The new one? The mirror. It didn't
- 8:35pulse like the others. It shimmered, smooth and
- 8:38flawless like glass, but with small cracks along
- 8:41its sides. Reminders of the world it showed me.
- 8:46It accepted me, I said softly. Then it gave me
- 8:48a long look, or maybe it just let you go. Later
- 8:54that night, I sat with Luna and Xena on the sanctuary
- 8:56porch. The moon's glowed low in the sky, and
- 9:00the wind carried the scent of fresh dune blossoms.
- 9:03Luna leaned on my shoulder, half asleep. Xena
- 9:07tinkered with one of the glyph radars. Mimir's
- 9:11glyphid rested on the table in front of us, quietly
- 9:13reflecting the stars. Some glyphs claw, some
- 9:17fly, some speak. But Mimir, Mimir remembers.
- 9:22It shows you not what you fear, but what you
- 9:25are. You're brave enough to look. And next time,
- 9:28we'll face a glyph with no face at all. Maybe.
- 9:33Or maybe they'll have some talons or maybe they'll
- 9:35have wings. But let me get into the story, the
- 9:43part of the story where we talk to Professor
- 9:48Orion about my catch. The next day I returned
- 9:52to school and I decided that I would tell Professor
- 9:56Orion about my catch because I always tell him
- 9:58about my catches. And... Most of the time he
- 10:01gets mad because he thinks that I'm catching
- 10:05the dangerous glyphs on purpose or something.
- 10:12Footsteps echoed down the curved marble halls
- 10:17of Luan Academy's east wing. I walked briskly,
- 10:22Mimir's glyphid secure in my satchel. The heavy
- 10:27oak door at the end is cracked open. Inside the
- 10:31air smells of ink, dust, and ozone. Papers rustle,
- 10:34a telescope points towards the veil of eternity.
- 10:39The day after we had caught Namir, I knew I had
- 10:43to speak with someone who might understand what
- 10:46happened inside the mirror world. Or maybe somebody
- 10:49who might actually lecture me, but... But someone
- 10:54who studied glyphs before they were even called
- 10:57glyphs. Professor Orion. I knocked once and entered.
- 11:03Professor Orion stands behind a desk strewn with
- 11:07scrolls and half -dismantled tech. You're back
- 11:10sooner than I expected. I figured the desert
- 11:12might eat you alive. It almost did, but we caught
- 11:15Mimir. Orion finally turns his expression. Is
- 11:19unreadable. Cold blue eyes flickered in the glyphid.
- 11:23In my hand. You touched it. More than that, I
- 11:28pulled it in. There was a trial. I saw a version
- 11:32of me I'd forgot about. That mirror is older
- 11:35than any in Dr. Leng's glyphopedia. It predates
- 11:39the catching age. Memearing isn't a creature.
- 11:46Memir is a relic, a remnant of the vell's original
- 11:50stitching woven with memory and regret. I've
- 11:55heard this before. So it's not just a test it
- 11:58remembers. Yes, and it chooses who to release.
- 12:01You're lucky. Some students have gone missing
- 12:04and they're drawn in by curiosity and never returned.
- 12:08Why didn't you tell us? You knew we were going
- 12:10there. I had my suspicions, but you never listen,
- 12:14Stella Ferris. You chase ghosts. You always have.
- 12:18You're just upset I proved it's more than myth.
- 12:21That the catchers of today can face things you
- 12:24studied from. Behind glass. You saw something
- 12:27of yourself in the mirror, didn't you? A pause.
- 12:33I nod. I saw what I might become if I lose sight
- 12:38of why I started. If I let fear or pride twist
- 12:42what matters. Then my mirror did its job. It
- 12:45doesn't trap. It teaches, harshly. But it only
- 12:49reveals what's already there. He stands and walks
- 12:52over. Placing a small object on the desk, a faded
- 12:56photo of a younger Orion standing near the crystal
- 12:59caverns. Another student at his side, long gone,
- 13:05shows me my brother. Told me I'd never be brave
- 13:11enough to forgive him. I never did. Do you still
- 13:15hear it? Every time I look in the mirror A long
- 13:21silence ensued before I said something. Thanks,
- 13:25Professor. Horia nods once. Keep the glyphid
- 13:30hidden. When you travel, there are factions who'd
- 13:34give everything to look inside their own past
- 13:36and tear the world apart in the process. Still,
- 13:40I turn to leave, but I stop at the door. You
- 13:46were wrong, by the way. I do listen. Not always
- 13:49do you. But I do listen. That's what makes your
- 13:55dangerous, Stella Farris, and need it. I finally
- 14:01head at home, because I had already talked to
- 14:03Professor Orian, and, well, he actually didn't
- 14:08yell at me this time, and I was kind of surprised
- 14:10with that. The wind hums low through the reed
- 14:15that surround my sanctuary. The three moons glinted
- 14:23off of the still water of the koi pond that I
- 14:26had just put in. Fireflies drifted lazily in
- 14:30the garden. I wrapped myself in a knit shawl
- 14:35while I sat alone on the porch, sipping sweet
- 14:39root tea from a cracked mug. A few days had passed
- 14:44since Mimir joined us, and the world had stayed
- 14:47quiet too quiet. Luna was out back with Mirno,
- 14:52dancing under the moonlight. Xena had fallen
- 14:54asleep at her desk again, a gemstone magnifier
- 14:57still tucked behind her ear. I thought the night
- 15:00would pass like any other until I heard the hum,
- 15:04a soft, whirling, mechanical buzz from beyond
- 15:08the treeline. I narrowed my eyes and stood up,
- 15:13setting the mug down gently, footsteps measured
- 15:16and careful crunch over the gravel path. As Sir
- 15:20Orion steps into the moonlight, wavering a travel
- 15:22quote and holding a small wrapped parcel. I didn't
- 15:26expect to see you here. I didn't expect to come
- 15:29yet. Here I am, Orion said. He looks around,
- 15:34taking in the carved wooden balcony, the overgrown
- 15:36garden, flowing faintly with bioluminescent glyph
- 15:40moss. You've built something extraordinary out
- 15:44here. I can see why they follow you. They don't
- 15:47follow me. We walk together." I replied. Orin
- 15:51gives a slight nod, stepping onto the porch from
- 15:54his pocket. He pulls a small tool and brushes
- 15:56his fingers over the glyphid, resting on the
- 15:59table. Mimir glows faintly, its polished surface
- 16:04flickered with impossible depths. I dreamt of
- 16:08it, you know. For three nights straight, not
- 16:10the glyph. The place. That mirror world. Did
- 16:14it say anything, I ask? No, but it watched like
- 16:18it knew I hadn't faced what I should've years
- 16:20ago. He sits beside me, looking older than before,
- 16:25weathered, like the desert had gotten into his
- 16:28bones. Why'd you come, I ask? Because I think
- 16:32Mimir is more than a relic, more than a glyph.
- 16:35It's evolving, it's watching, it wants something.
- 16:39And why give it to us, I ask? Because I trust
- 16:42you, despite everything. A beat? For a beat,
- 16:48I study Orion carefully. You're afraid of what's
- 16:52coming, aren't you? I ask. Orion doesn't speak
- 16:55for a moment, then he reaches into his cloak
- 16:57and unwraps the parcel and inside is a small
- 16:59shard of black glass humming with unstable energy.
- 17:05This was found in the crypt plane waste, where
- 17:10no glyph should survive. That's fragment of a
- 17:14second mirror. One not bound to memory, but to
- 17:18intention. A glyph that shows not who you are,
- 17:22but what you're capable of. The shard pulsed
- 17:25once in my direction, then dimmed again. I believe
- 17:30someone or something is trying to rebuild them,
- 17:33all of them, and not for reflection. For control,
- 17:37I ask. Exactly, Orion replied. Another long silence
- 17:42ensued. Only the distant call of the dusk bird
- 17:46stirs the air. Then we need to move if there's
- 17:50another mere glyph out there. We have to find
- 17:53it before they do. Agreed. I'll notify the others,
- 17:57but this time, Stelliferous, he turns to look
- 18:00me dead in the eye. You'll need more than heart
- 18:05to survive this one. You'll need to choose who
- 18:07you trust and who you leave behind. I stand slowly,
- 18:13the glyphid slowly pulsing with starlight because
- 18:17I had sat down, you know, just minutes ago to
- 18:20talk to Orion. We're not alone, Orion. We never
- 18:24have been. We both turn towards the distant mountains
- 18:31where storm clouds begin to gather and somewhere
- 18:33something mirrored stirs awake. Inside the sanctuary,
- 18:42the lights have went out, so I light a table
- 18:45lantern as Zena and Luna gather around the central
- 18:48planning table. A large parchment map of Nibiru
- 18:51is rolled out, weighed at the corners with stones
- 18:56etched in old glyphid script. Professor Orion
- 19:00stands nearby, his cloak now hung by the door,
- 19:03his expression grim. He didn't sleep that night.
- 19:08The second mirror shared Orion brought us pulsed
- 19:13faintly on the table, like a heartbeat that didn't
- 19:18belong to anyone or anything in the room. Whatever
- 19:21this new glyph was, it wasn't a twin. It was
- 19:24something older, wilder, more dangerous. The
- 19:27crypt plane wastes are expanding. This river
- 19:31here, gone dry in less than two weeks. The Academy's
- 19:39weather satellite reported warped wind patterns,
- 19:42like reflections of storms that don't exist,
- 19:45Zeno pointed out. It's cold, not icy, empty,
- 19:51like it's trying to forget itself. Luna pressed
- 19:54two fingers to the shard. That's because the
- 20:00glyph doesn't show who we are. It erases who
- 20:04we were. It's not memory -based like Mimir. It's
- 20:07a refraction, a prism, that twists intention
- 20:10into obsession. Then it's, er, Professor Orion
- 20:14said, then it's not just a glyph, it's a weapon.
- 20:18I said, Orion gives me a slow solemn nod. We'll
- 20:24need backup. I'll reach out to the drift hunters
- 20:27in Glassroot Gulch. They've been tracking strange
- 20:31signals near the Crystal Dunes. If this shard
- 20:36belongs to something larger, then they'll know.
- 20:42Do you think someone made it? Luna quietly asked.
- 20:48Maybe, or maybe it made itself out of all the
- 20:51forgotten pieces we left behind. And that was
- 20:56all that was said for the final or for the final
- 21:00part of that night. No one had said or uttered
- 21:04another word. We all went to sleep and Orion
- 21:08went home. The twin suns and the three moons
- 21:14were hanging in the normal spots the next day
- 21:18over the Glyphid Bay. I walked alone to the ridge
- 21:23overlooking the sea where Glyphids are docked
- 21:27in their resting stations, each glowing faintly
- 21:30responding to their catcher's energy. Orabeak
- 21:33flutters down beside me, chirping curiously.
- 21:37The golden scarab presses its beak gently to
- 21:40my temple. You saw it too, didn't you? The other
- 21:44side of us. Orabeak emits a low, harmonic hum.
- 21:49Mimir's glyphid flickers at my hip, as though
- 21:53echoing the feeling. We were heading into a place
- 21:58where thoughts could become storms. and reflections
- 22:02could become rivals. Well, we wouldn't go unharmed
- 22:05or unarmed because we didn't want to get harmed.
- 22:11Elsewhere, far from the sanctuary, a figure cloaked
- 22:14in crimson and jet black robes kneels beside
- 22:17a cracked floating shard of obsidian around them.
- 22:21Dozens of glyphids warp and humming with mere
- 22:25energy hover slightly. They place their hand
- 22:30over a glowing relic, another mirror shards,
- 22:34stitched together with silver thread and blood
- 22:37ink. The figure whispers in a forgotten tongue.
- 22:41Soon the refractions will see the truth. There
- 22:45are no catchers, only keepers. In all light,
- 22:49cast a shadow. The mysterious voice whispered.
- 22:54Next time on the Monster Catchers Journal, we
- 22:57enter the crypt. cryptplained waste we search
- 23:01for the glyph that was never meant to be found
- 23:03and we uncover the truth about our own reflections
- 23:06we might never come back from the from until
- 23:11then keep your glyph it's close and your heart
- 23:14guard it and if your thoughts begin speaking
- 23:17in your voice don't answer them
