- 1:05Speaker 1: recording artists, songwriter, producer, and worship leader and former baseball player.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Is really key. In his interview, he was focused on
- 1:11Speaker 1: pursuing a baseball career, and at the age of eighteen,
- 1:14Speaker 1: he was drafted by the New York Mets. While pursuing baseball,
- 1:17Speaker 1: he realized there was a higher calling upon his life,
- 1:20Speaker 1: and to the surprise of many, he left the sports
- 1:23Speaker 1: world behind to pursue a career as a gospel recording artist.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Todd Delaney has delivered some of the biggest worship anthems
- 1:29Speaker 1: of the past decade, with number one singles You're Doing It,
- 1:32Speaker 1: You're Doing It All Again, Your Great Name psaw eighteen
- 1:37Speaker 1: number one gospel albums such as Your Great Name and
- 1:40Speaker 1: The Worship's Heart. He's revered as one of the influences
- 1:43Speaker 1: of the next generation of gospel music. Please work with
- 1:46Speaker 1: the money making conversation Todd Delaney, Hey dor, sir, oh man,
- 1:50Speaker 1: I'm doing wonderful man. Thanks for having me. First of all,
- 1:53Speaker 1: I had a lot to say about you. You know,
- 1:55Speaker 1: your success. You know y'all there there running around that
- 1:58Speaker 1: diamond as they call the baseball field. You got that
- 2:00Speaker 1: camp on looking like a young King Griffith Jr. Because
- 2:05Speaker 1: I have to believe that was your dream at first, right, absolutely, man,
- 2:10Speaker 1: I mean, the thing was the goal was to get
- 2:12Speaker 1: to a bunch of millions of dollars. Man, that was
- 2:15Speaker 1: that was the goal. When I was a kid growing
- 2:17Speaker 1: up in the hood, I said, if I could just
- 2:18Speaker 1: get to the bag, um, that's all that matters. But
- 2:21Speaker 1: I realized that I had a little bit more to
- 2:23Speaker 1: offer than just going after the bag, and I think
- 2:26Speaker 1: I wanted to take that route so I can try
- 2:27Speaker 1: to impact the world in a more positive way than
- 2:30Speaker 1: you just come into a stadium and watching me play. Well,
- 2:33Speaker 1: you know, it's really when you make these decisions, especially
- 2:36Speaker 1: at a young age. You know I was, you know,
- 2:38Speaker 1: because you really determine your future. I always tell people
- 2:42Speaker 1: decisions you make between eighteen and twenty four are really
- 2:45Speaker 1: the career decisions that how you gonna make your money
- 2:48Speaker 1: when you and sixty and so you made a decision
- 2:51Speaker 1: that because obviously to be drafted by the match there's
- 2:54Speaker 1: a considerable scouting that goes into that, and they don't
- 2:57Speaker 1: just draft people just for fun. They drafted they feel
- 3:01Speaker 1: they could nurture their talents and build upon that. Talk
- 3:03Speaker 1: about the experience of being drafted at that point and
- 3:06Speaker 1: then we're gonna go through the whole process of maturing
- 3:09Speaker 1: to the point that you made a decision that that
- 3:11Speaker 1: wasn't the direction for you. Yeah, so so bro. The
- 3:15Speaker 1: biggest thing about the whole draft process is that you
- 3:18Speaker 1: gotta think about everybody in your family that puts so
- 3:20Speaker 1: much into you your development. Like my mom and dad
- 3:24Speaker 1: spent so much money on me playing and travel in
- 3:28Speaker 1: the world. So for them, this was the biggest thing
- 3:31Speaker 1: that could possibly ever happen. And for me too, you
- 3:33Speaker 1: know what I mean. Like when I start seeing the
- 3:34Speaker 1: scouts were coming to the game and they were talking
- 3:37Speaker 1: to my parents, they would pull my parents to the
- 3:39Speaker 1: side and say, man, we think your son can play
- 3:41Speaker 1: at the next level. My parents would in turn take
- 3:44Speaker 1: me home and tell me we talked to the Pittsburgh
- 3:47Speaker 1: Pirates today. We talked to the Cubs today. We talked
- 3:49Speaker 1: And so at that point I I was, hey, I'm
- 3:52Speaker 1: all in. I said, okay, you mean I can go
- 3:54Speaker 1: get the bag, no more school. You mean, what what? What?
- 3:57Speaker 1: What does my future look like? And so Um, at
- 4:00Speaker 1: that point, when they started talking like that, my mind
- 4:02Speaker 1: started changing because I started seeing my future in a
- 4:05Speaker 1: different way. Um. And then UM, I never imagined stepping
- 4:09Speaker 1: away to do nothing else, especially singing gospel music at
- 4:12Speaker 1: that because in gospel music that's not really a lucrative
- 4:16Speaker 1: lucrative business. That's that's more of a you know, commitment
- 4:18Speaker 1: as far as your your faith in what you believe
- 4:22Speaker 1: and how you're motivated move people. Now the whole process, Now,
- 4:25Speaker 1: what position did you play? I want to make sure
- 4:27Speaker 1: that everybody hears the second Bai Jose tu V all
- 4:31Speaker 1: the great second base was out there, Ryan Seinberg, all
- 4:34Speaker 1: that that throwing that double play, you know, make that spinning.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So I stopped throwing it down. So what was your best?
- 4:40Speaker 1: You know? Never man, Look I did first of all,
- 4:43Speaker 1: I did my research on your too. So you know,
- 4:45Speaker 1: in terms of afmations, you're just telling me so at
- 4:47Speaker 1: the general public know about your skills and because because
- 4:51Speaker 1: when people make these decisions like fishing up my my
- 4:54Speaker 1: degrees in mathematics, you know, when you work for IBM.
- 4:57Speaker 1: And then it came point in my life i'd be
- 5:00Speaker 1: wasn't the journey I wanted? And I wanted to be
- 5:01Speaker 1: a stand up comic, you know, And I know when
- 5:05Speaker 1: I was making that decision, Todd, it was difficult for
- 5:09Speaker 1: me because I knew, just like you said, a lot
- 5:11Speaker 1: of people have invested energy and was excited and working.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I come from the inner city and and being at way,
- 5:20Speaker 1: I've worked for a fortune five company IBM, and and
- 5:25Speaker 1: so that that's what that's what you said. Next day
- 5:27Speaker 1: step for that was just to getting married has with kids.
- 5:29Speaker 1: That's that's the true you know what I'm saying. And
- 5:31Speaker 1: so when when I made that decision, and I always
- 5:33Speaker 1: tell people, I made it a year in advance when
- 5:36Speaker 1: I you know, and I when I when I was
- 5:38Speaker 1: sitting at home and I was in tears because I
- 5:41Speaker 1: knew it was such a difficult decision for me, because
- 5:44Speaker 1: I know the decisions that I make also impacts others,
- 5:49Speaker 1: and so I know it wasn't an easy decision. That's
- 5:51Speaker 1: why I wanted to bring my experience into your experience,
- 5:54Speaker 1: so you know that I share a point of view
- 5:56Speaker 1: and the emotion. And I wasn't trying. I wasn't thinking
- 6:00Speaker 1: about millions of dollars. Oh. I saw Eddie Murphy out there,
- 6:03Speaker 1: I saw Richard Pryor out there. I saw all those
- 6:07Speaker 1: guys out there, But I didn't I just saw an
- 6:09Speaker 1: opportunity to say this is what I wanted to do.
- 6:13Speaker 1: But you know, the beauty of it is that there's
- 6:15Speaker 1: no game plan as in baseball, there's a game plan.
- 6:19Speaker 1: You start here, you go to this next level, you
- 6:22Speaker 1: get to this next level, you make the major leagues.
- 6:25Speaker 1: But to be a gospel artists, there's no plan, so
- 6:28Speaker 1: talk about that. So, you know, the crazy thing is,
- 6:33Speaker 1: I think I went in blind, like I would. I
- 6:35Speaker 1: didn't know what the future held. I didn't, you know,
- 6:37Speaker 1: I wasn't smart enough. I don't think to really have
- 6:40Speaker 1: gather all of my thoughts. I just knew I was
- 6:42Speaker 1: following my heart. Because if I could do it all
- 6:46Speaker 1: over again, now that I actually have a greater insight
- 6:49Speaker 1: into business and everything, I don't think I would have
- 6:51Speaker 1: jumped the way I did. And I'm kind of, you know,
- 6:53Speaker 1: I'm grateful that I wouldn't just you know, I guess smart,
- 6:58Speaker 1: because I would have held on to what I knew
- 7:00Speaker 1: was sure. And what was sure at that time was
- 7:02Speaker 1: that you could make a lot of money playing baseball,
- 7:04Speaker 1: and so that transition for me. Um, I jumped blind
- 7:09Speaker 1: because I was so excited about the fact that I
- 7:12Speaker 1: could make impact sharing this new faith, this new thing
- 7:16Speaker 1: that I had because I didn't, you know, I didn't
- 7:17Speaker 1: grow up churchy. I grew up straight, like, let's get
- 7:20Speaker 1: it let's get out to the clubs, let's fight a
- 7:22Speaker 1: little bit, let's do all of that. I grew up
- 7:24Speaker 1: like that, so when I came into this knowledge of
- 7:27Speaker 1: the Bible and the relationship with God, that was really
- 7:30Speaker 1: the thing that kind of grabbed me because I said, Dad,
- 7:32Speaker 1: there's a whole another way I can think, live and
- 7:35Speaker 1: do my life. And that was the thing that kind
- 7:37Speaker 1: of made me make the transition. Not my parents, they
- 7:40Speaker 1: were Bible people too, when they were like, hold on,
- 7:42Speaker 1: hold on this, this might not be God like what
- 7:44Speaker 1: you you you need to go back and play baseball
- 7:46Speaker 1: that that you know, keep doing what you're doing. And
- 7:48Speaker 1: I said, no, Mom, I didn't found something that that
- 7:51Speaker 1: I believe. It's just the world. And thankfully I held
- 7:54Speaker 1: to my guns. Well, you know, it's really interesting that
- 7:57Speaker 1: that's what I said in the beginning. I always leave
- 7:59Speaker 1: with your gifts. Don't let your age, friends, family, or
- 8:01Speaker 1: co workers stop you from planning or living your dream.
- 8:05Speaker 1: And that's where you were at that point. How old
- 8:06Speaker 1: we get that, Todd? And he was at twenty three
- 8:12Speaker 1: And like I said, uh, I made the decision based
- 8:15Speaker 1: on twenty three to twenty three, and I left. I
- 8:18Speaker 1: left IBM and I'm gonna tell you some man. Uh,
- 8:22Speaker 1: I had an idea of what I knew. First of all,
- 8:25Speaker 1: I had the talent. You know that you had the talent,
- 8:27Speaker 1: so we we couldn't walk away from that. So when
- 8:30Speaker 1: people when you start making that decision, Todd, nobody could say, well,
- 8:34Speaker 1: you know, he's about to jump out to Kitty's kitty
- 8:37Speaker 1: kit he see, can't he benfall get right? Well? Nobody
- 8:41Speaker 1: question of that. But they were so directional about what
- 8:47Speaker 1: you should be doing. Who had the biggest pushback on that?
- 8:51Speaker 1: What was it? Your friends with your family? Because I
- 8:54Speaker 1: know Mom, Jason Man, I told my friends. They go,
- 8:57Speaker 1: really you're leaving IBM to tell Joe and then they
- 9:01Speaker 1: went and then they went there. This is when they
- 9:03Speaker 1: went on me, how you gonna make money? And I'm
- 9:06Speaker 1: gonna tell you this right here, Tom, I could not
- 9:08Speaker 1: tell them how I was gonna make money. And I
- 9:11Speaker 1: had a house. I just bought a house. Like you said,
- 9:13Speaker 1: maybe said jump out there with bad decisions. If I
- 9:17Speaker 1: didn't do it all again, I probably wasn't state that
- 9:18Speaker 1: I be because I just bought a house. I bought
- 9:22Speaker 1: a call and I said me, I gotta get out
- 9:25Speaker 1: of this so it wasn't It was more faith. It
- 9:27Speaker 1: was more I had a plan, but the plan wasn't met.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I believe in me. So let's talk about that process,
- 9:33Speaker 1: because I really want to slow people down because a
- 9:35Speaker 1: lot of people listening to the show, they're sitting around debating.
- 9:40Speaker 1: They leaving their their husbands stopped them, and they letting
- 9:42Speaker 1: the relationship stop them. Someone even letting their kids stop them,
- 9:45Speaker 1: and so. But you can only stop yourself, and you
- 9:48Speaker 1: can only start yourself. Talk to us, sir, that's right. Yeah,
- 9:52Speaker 1: it was my My old man gave me the most pushback,
- 9:54Speaker 1: my father because I mean he was so we were
- 9:59Speaker 1: so close to what they thought. It was the greatest
- 10:03Speaker 1: thing that I could ever do. And and um, the
- 10:06Speaker 1: craziest thing about how much we put so much emphasis on,
- 10:09Speaker 1: you know, sports in America, Like if you make it
- 10:12Speaker 1: to the top of the sports, they think that's the
- 10:14Speaker 1: greatest thing. But for me, impact, impact was the was
- 10:18Speaker 1: the greatest thing. I said, Man, how can I impact
- 10:20Speaker 1: the world now? Now now that I'm in this thing
- 10:22Speaker 1: all the way over here. Um, I'm in my mind,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I'm thinking I'll make more money on this side than
- 10:28Speaker 1: I ever could have imagined. Because I never did it
- 10:30Speaker 1: for the money, you know what I'm saying. I did
- 10:32Speaker 1: it because I knew that I wanted to be an
- 10:34Speaker 1: impact or of of the world in a positive direction.
- 10:36Speaker 1: And so, um, you know, I mean, I say that
- 10:40Speaker 1: just to say the people that are watching it, don't
- 10:42Speaker 1: ever chase the dollar, you know what I'm saying. It's
- 10:44Speaker 1: not that it's not the dollar, chase the impact. How
- 10:47Speaker 1: can you make an impact on other people's lives and
- 10:49Speaker 1: the money will chase you? And so I'm in a really, really,
- 10:52Speaker 1: really beautiful place right now. But but to to kind
- 10:55Speaker 1: of backtrack a little bit, my old man, because my
- 10:57Speaker 1: old man knew that he could put the fear of
- 10:58Speaker 1: God on me for a long time. That was the
- 11:02Speaker 1: big thing that he told me. Men, you're pretty much
- 11:03Speaker 1: gonna get your tail back. Then that was the first
- 11:05Speaker 1: time that I really, I think I stood up to
- 11:07Speaker 1: my father and was like, hey, I know, I know
- 11:09Speaker 1: you can probably steal with me, but I'm not gonna
- 11:13Speaker 1: do this. I'm going my own direction. He eventually backed
- 11:16Speaker 1: off and really gave me support. But I had here
- 11:19Speaker 1: God for a little Well, it's finally here the season
- 11:22Speaker 1: of celebration, and no matter how you celebrate with family
- 11:26Speaker 1: and friends. Whether you're preparing for reys magos or Karamu

- 12:20Speaker 1: grows in the forest, Our imagination, our sense of wonder,
- 12:24Speaker 1: and our family bonds grow too, because when we disconnect
- 12:27Speaker 1: from this and connect with this, we reconnect with each other.
- 12:35Speaker 1: The forest is closer than you think, find a forest
- 12:38Speaker 1: near you and start exploring. I discover the forest dot
- 12:41Speaker 1: Org brought to you by the United States Forest Service
- 12:44Speaker 1: and the AD Council. Hi everyone, I'll roker here as
- 12:48Speaker 1: a guy with his own catchphrase. I appreciate that Smokey's
- 12:51Speaker 1: only said only you can prevent wildfires, but I'm filling
- 12:55Speaker 1: it because there's a lot more to report, like when
- 12:57Speaker 1: they're parched or windy conditions out there. You gotta be
- 13:01Speaker 1: extra careful with things like burning yard wage. After all,
- 13:04Speaker 1: wildfires can start anywhere, even in your neck of the woods.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Through the Smokey Bear dot Com to learn more about
- 13:11Speaker 1: wildfire prevention. Brought to you by the U. S. Forest Service,
- 13:14Speaker 1: your state Forrester, and the AD Council. Well, you know
- 13:17Speaker 1: it really is uh, you know, because he saw he
- 13:19Speaker 1: would you live in his dream, and I cannot fault
- 13:23Speaker 1: him for that. He was called up, and I guess
- 13:25Speaker 1: that's the propertory. He was caught up. He was called up,
- 13:28Speaker 1: my boy because he can explain that to his other boys.
- 13:32Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, My boy New York and
- 13:34Speaker 1: my boy All Star, My boy hit a home run,
- 13:37Speaker 1: my boss stole a base, My boy singing gospel. That's
- 13:41Speaker 1: a different car. That's a different car to stream conversation.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Was that's different cult the stream conversation time. So I
- 13:46Speaker 1: know where he's coming from, Okay. But the beauty of
- 13:49Speaker 1: it is that what I'm trying to tell everybody in
- 13:51Speaker 1: this interview of doing which isn't Brillier Grammy nominative Della
- 13:54Speaker 1: war winning Recorded Artists, saw Writer producer worshiply because you're
- 13:58Speaker 1: leading worship right here on my show right now, because
- 14:00Speaker 1: the worship is tied to inspiration, and inspiration is tied
- 14:03Speaker 1: to overcome. And what I feel is doubt. And you
- 14:05Speaker 1: said something very important, and people always ask me, I
- 14:08Speaker 1: would tell people I don't chase money. I chase opportunity.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I chance relationships. I changed because if I have the
- 14:15Speaker 1: right relationship, I'm gonna get paid. But if you go
- 14:18Speaker 1: into a situation, and let's clear us up, team, when
- 14:21Speaker 1: we talk like this, in order to start up, if
- 14:23Speaker 1: your entrepreneur, if you out there, you better have a budget,
- 14:27Speaker 1: you better I understand how you We're talking about individuals
- 14:31Speaker 1: who will walk away from a job and have a
- 14:33Speaker 1: God given talent. And that's what I had at a
- 14:35Speaker 1: guard given to talent as a stand up comedian. You
- 14:37Speaker 1: have a god given talent as a gospel singer, arranger,
- 14:40Speaker 1: music leader, And that's a different conversation. You don't have
- 14:45Speaker 1: a budget tied to that, you know what I'm saying.
- 14:48Speaker 1: You don't have a budget tied to that. Now, if
- 14:50Speaker 1: you try to open up your next dunkin Done Us
- 14:52Speaker 1: or next uh I t store, you better have a
- 14:55Speaker 1: budget and a plan and hopefully have some money in
- 14:57Speaker 1: the bank. But I always tell people I can stay
- 15:00Speaker 1: on the corner tod and tell jokes and make money. Okay,
- 15:03Speaker 1: just like you. If you really, if we got ugly
- 15:06Speaker 1: out there, brother, you can hit the car, start praising
- 15:10Speaker 1: the law and they're gonna be all good. Am I right? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 15:15Speaker 1: we did a couple of dollars on the corner. Man.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Come on and now now now, now were Now we're
- 15:20Speaker 1: turning the corner man. You you you made the commitment.
- 15:24Speaker 1: I'm getting out of here, but there's still no plan
- 15:26Speaker 1: in place. How do you start sowing the seeds of
- 15:29Speaker 1: the opportunity to pursue your dream, your dream after leaving baseball.
- 15:33Speaker 1: So after leaving baseball, I think the greatest connection that
- 15:36Speaker 1: I made was with a guy, Grammy Award winners names
- 15:40Speaker 1: pastor Smoky northorl that's my boy. I did thirteen. I
- 15:44Speaker 1: produced thirteen Celebration of Gospel BT, so I know snark
- 15:49Speaker 1: snark all right, yeah smoking. He took me under his
- 15:53Speaker 1: wing man. And that was the relationship that kind of
- 15:56Speaker 1: gave me a real visual of the fact that, man,
- 15:59Speaker 1: I see a guy that Swaggy, got a family, got kids,
- 16:04Speaker 1: he's singing in the gospel. I can relate. And I said,
- 16:07Speaker 1: I would like to live a life like his, one
- 16:10Speaker 1: that is dedicated to his faith. But it still looks cool.
- 16:13Speaker 1: He made it look good, you know, sit on the piano,
- 16:16Speaker 1: sing song, and I said, I can do this, like
- 16:19Speaker 1: I could really do it. And he taught me the business,
- 16:21Speaker 1: taught me the game, taught me, taught me how to
- 16:24Speaker 1: study the Bible, taught me how to write songs on
- 16:26Speaker 1: the level where it's like, hey, I was listening to somebody.
- 16:29Speaker 1: It was almost equivalent to talking to a Major League
- 16:32Speaker 1: Baseball player that was an All star. Hey, this is
- 16:34Speaker 1: how you put in work to get to where you
- 16:36Speaker 1: want to be. This is how you write songs that
- 16:38Speaker 1: will be nominated for Grammars. And he gave me the
- 16:40Speaker 1: blueprint and um, that was when the corner began to
- 16:43Speaker 1: turn then, because I started to see I said, hey,
- 16:47Speaker 1: if he can do it, then I can do it.
- 16:49Speaker 1: He would tell me things like, bro, you're gonna be
- 16:51Speaker 1: You're gonna go farther than me. And I used to
- 16:52Speaker 1: be like, dude, you're you're a beast. How am I
- 16:55Speaker 1: gonna go farther than you? And he was like no,
- 16:57Speaker 1: He's like, it only makes sense you go farther than
- 17:00Speaker 1: me because I'm actually teaching you the game before I
- 17:03Speaker 1: ever knew it. And so um and he's sure enough,
- 17:05Speaker 1: he's still my mentor to this day and that but
- 17:07Speaker 1: that was the that was the pivotal move in my life. Well,
- 17:10Speaker 1: you know when Steve Harving, because Steve was a hosting
- 17:13Speaker 1: that I was producing, uh, writing the monologues and everything
- 17:17Speaker 1: for Celebration the Gospel for thirteen years we did it.
- 17:20Speaker 1: And uh that allowed me to you know, entry way
- 17:25Speaker 1: into a lot of incredible people like smokey Um Uh,
- 17:30Speaker 1: like Kurk Franklin, that's my boy. You at him just
- 17:32Speaker 1: just you know, just to go down to the dudes,
- 17:35Speaker 1: go down Mary and marry everybody. Yeah, and that process
- 17:39Speaker 1: I learned that there was a shift in the gospel,
- 17:42Speaker 1: you know, especially with Steve Harvey hosts and that was
- 17:44Speaker 1: a comedian who did their comedy jam. You know, because
- 17:47Speaker 1: gospel has always been sometimes too churchy. You know, you
- 17:51Speaker 1: can't it's not Gospel could sometimes be uninviting, even though
- 17:56Speaker 1: you know, even though it's God. So it could be
- 17:58Speaker 1: like you you you come talk to God the way
- 18:01Speaker 1: I want you to come talk to God. Now, if
- 18:03Speaker 1: you don't talk to God the way, ah, we don't
- 18:06Speaker 1: hear you. We an't hear it in my way. When
- 18:08Speaker 1: I'm saying that time, yes, yes, talk to us about
- 18:15Speaker 1: that minute. Because you got you got that swag. I'm
- 18:19Speaker 1: telling some man, I look at it, brilling, smile. I
- 18:22Speaker 1: talked to Molly Music. That's my boy Green, that's my boy.
- 18:26Speaker 1: So so I'm not I'm not a person who's who's
- 18:29Speaker 1: who's just stepping into a interview with you because you're
- 18:32Speaker 1: popular and you're successful or not and you're not you're
- 18:34Speaker 1: in the family not you know, you know, money may
- 18:36Speaker 1: comes says family because all of them come on my show.
- 18:39Speaker 1: And when we come on the show, we talked like
- 18:41Speaker 1: this because it's about your inspiration, it's your journey and
- 18:44Speaker 1: more importantly, sometimes people will restrict your journey even though
- 18:48Speaker 1: you're trying to accomplish the same goal. And that's where
- 18:51Speaker 1: I run into trouble when when we come into gospel,
- 18:55Speaker 1: because we're all trying to uplift, we're trying all trying
- 18:57Speaker 1: to make people feel good, but some people want you
- 18:59Speaker 1: to do it in the way. How has that motivate you?
- 19:02Speaker 1: And how has that disappointed you? Attacks? Oh man, look
- 19:06Speaker 1: you lead me. You lead me to a place where
- 19:07Speaker 1: I'm probably gonna say too much, but I I don't care,
- 19:10Speaker 1: because um I heard I heard it say it like
- 19:14Speaker 1: this your cat and told me one time, he said
- 19:18Speaker 1: the goal is to break into the gospel music industry
- 19:21Speaker 1: and then to break out. And I couldn't understand it,
- 19:26Speaker 1: you know what I mean, because I said, well, why
- 19:27Speaker 1: would you want to break out? You know? He said no,
- 19:28Speaker 1: he said, he says, because when you break in, people
- 19:31Speaker 1: will try to keep you bound on the end, they'll
- 19:33Speaker 1: try to make you do everything like they want you
- 19:36Speaker 1: to do it and then have to break out of
- 19:38Speaker 1: that and become your own man and god man. And
- 19:41Speaker 1: I'm at that place right now, like I've enjoyed what
- 19:44Speaker 1: I've been able to accomplish here. But I don't want
- 19:48Speaker 1: to be owned by anybody. I don't want to. I
- 19:50Speaker 1: don't wanna. I don't want to do or be dictated
- 19:54Speaker 1: to do anything by anybody's systems or standards. Man, I'm
- 19:57Speaker 1: trying to make my own mark in this world. I'm
- 20:00Speaker 1: trying to create my own system in this world so that, um,
- 20:04Speaker 1: nobody can put a cap on how much money I
- 20:06Speaker 1: can make, how many souls I can win, what kind
- 20:09Speaker 1: of music I produced. Like that's that's just I've always
- 20:13Speaker 1: been like that. I've always been a little bit of
- 20:14Speaker 1: a rebel um. Even when when people will say, man,
- 20:17Speaker 1: you're stupid for walking away from baseball, I didn't care.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I knew I could do it because I knew what
- 20:22Speaker 1: was on the inside of me. And so you're talking
- 20:24Speaker 1: my language like this, this right here is probably what's
- 20:27Speaker 1: on the forefront of my mind every day when I
- 20:30Speaker 1: wake up in the morning. It's like, how do I
- 20:32Speaker 1: create a system that will allow me to dominate? Aside
- 20:36Speaker 1: from what everybody else is telling me that it is
- 20:38Speaker 1: the norm and that I have to do in order
- 20:41Speaker 1: for me to dominate in this world, I just don't
- 20:44Speaker 1: believe it. I don't believe it's anything that I have
- 20:46Speaker 1: to do, I believe I can do it however I
- 20:47Speaker 1: want to. I can create my own recipe. And so
- 20:50Speaker 1: that's what we're doing right now. And we're live here
- 20:53Speaker 1: outside the Perez family home, just waiting for them. And
- 20:56Speaker 1: there they go, almost done time. This morning. Mom is
- 20:59Speaker 1: coming out the front door strong with a double arm
- 21:02Speaker 1: kid carry. Looks like Dad has the bags. Daughter is
- 21:05Speaker 1: bringing up the rear. Oh but the diaper bag wasn't closed.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Diapers and toys are everywhere. Oh but mom has just
- 21:14Speaker 1: nailed the perfect car seat buckle for the toddler. And
- 21:17Speaker 1: now the eldest daughter, who looks to be about nine
- 21:20Speaker 1: or ten, has secured herself in the booster seat. Dad
- 21:23Speaker 1: zips the bad clothes and they're off. Ah, but looks
- 21:26Speaker 1: like Mom doesn't realize her coffee cup is still on
- 21:29Speaker 1: the roof of the car, and there it goes. That's
- 21:33Speaker 1: a shame that mug was a fan favorite. Don't sweat
- 21:36Speaker 1: the small stuff. Just nailed the big stuff, like making

- 22:52Speaker 1: We're don't to Delaney when we are sitting up there
- 22:54Speaker 1: talking and and I see the fore name because you
- 22:57Speaker 1: need to be recognized for your success. She there's a
- 22:59Speaker 1: lot of tids out there. But when one time de
- 23:01Speaker 1: Laney and and when you when you you know, you're
- 23:04Speaker 1: a grinder. I can tell you right the ground. And
- 23:06Speaker 1: sometimes grinders are like me, you don't you move, you
- 23:09Speaker 1: move on to the next project. And sometimes you gotta
- 23:11Speaker 1: be reminded how special you are. And your number one
- 23:16Speaker 1: gospel album, your great name, you know, when you know,
- 23:20Speaker 1: when you started moving, when it started impact and we
- 23:24Speaker 1: just started streaming sales and views. And tell me about that, man,
- 23:30Speaker 1: tell meybody, tell me, tell me about that. First of
- 23:32Speaker 1: all you and then the family and then you the
- 23:35Speaker 1: big smile man. So so that that that whole moment
- 23:41Speaker 1: in time, that momentum that took off right there with
- 23:44Speaker 1: your Great name. Um, it was global for one. So
- 23:47Speaker 1: it was like we we spent a lot of time
- 23:49Speaker 1: in the Motherland, time in South South America, we spent time.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I went to India, So it was it was just
- 23:56Speaker 1: always going. But to the greatest thing about it was
- 23:59Speaker 1: to see the way people were influenced by you, man
- 24:02Speaker 1: like and I'm talking about on another side of the world.
- 24:05Speaker 1: It's one thing man to to to talk like, talk
- 24:08Speaker 1: English to people and see your own people being impacted
- 24:11Speaker 1: by your music. But to go to another side of
- 24:13Speaker 1: the world where people who hardly even speak the same
- 24:15Speaker 1: language you and they say, we listened to your music,
- 24:18Speaker 1: we watch your videos on YouTube. We're encouraged by you.
- 24:21Speaker 1: That thing will leave tears in your Like. So my
- 24:23Speaker 1: wife and I in the band, we traveled the world
- 24:26Speaker 1: and now your great name moment. We were just touring
- 24:30Speaker 1: the world and crying, bro like we were. We couldn't
- 24:34Speaker 1: believe that the world was singing these songs and that
- 24:37Speaker 1: the world was impacted. Like we did a concert in Uganda,
- 24:41Speaker 1: Seventy five thousand people showed up three nights in a row.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Like I was like, I'm like at this point, like, God,
- 24:47Speaker 1: what else are you gonna show me? Like, because I'm
- 24:49Speaker 1: just a little all I could think was I was
- 24:51Speaker 1: just a young guy from the West side of Chicago.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I didn't know I didn't even know people over there
- 24:56Speaker 1: on the other side of the world, we're even listening.
- 24:59Speaker 1: And so that's the turn. The concert out there and
- 25:02Speaker 1: the lightening up flashlights and stuff like that. All those people,
- 25:06Speaker 1: I think, can't you see the back of the road
- 25:09Speaker 1: You can't even see the numb. And that's that's the
- 25:12Speaker 1: beauty of you. Now know the new album Anthems and Glory,
- 25:16Speaker 1: you know the jamb out uh this body music. You know,
- 25:19Speaker 1: you're leading listeners literally back to the scriptures for hope, conference, answers, instructure,
- 25:24Speaker 1: because I need instructures and I need hope, and I
- 25:26Speaker 1: need I need prayer. I need all those things. Sometimes
- 25:30Speaker 1: I may be a denial about it, I'm gonna tell
- 25:32Speaker 1: you right now, but that doesn't mean I don't need it.
- 25:35Speaker 1: So how do you how do you make sure that
- 25:37Speaker 1: those layers and seven tracks on this album? Yeah? Why
- 25:41Speaker 1: did you do it? And why is it impacting a
- 25:44Speaker 1: person like me? Man I? I um, okay, well I
- 25:48Speaker 1: remember this thing. There was there was something done a
- 25:50Speaker 1: few years back by all the celebrities a lot of them,
- 25:53Speaker 1: um called the Bible Stories. They did a CD where
- 25:57Speaker 1: they were all using their voices and they were, you know,
- 26:00Speaker 1: replaying the Bible. And at that moment I kind of
- 26:02Speaker 1: got the idea then that there's one book in the
- 26:06Speaker 1: Bible that will never stop selling to the people, and
- 26:08Speaker 1: that's the Bible. The Bible is always probably the number
- 26:12Speaker 1: one selling book every year, and so um, I figured,
- 26:16Speaker 1: I said, you can't go wrong when you give people
- 26:18Speaker 1: the Bible, the word of God, and then it kind
- 26:21Speaker 1: of takes you out of the way because there's so
- 26:22Speaker 1: much disagreement about what the scriptures say this that another,
- 26:26Speaker 1: I know that I can take my own emotion and
- 26:28Speaker 1: opinion out of the way when I just give people
- 26:30Speaker 1: the words, sing them the word, and so they can
- 26:33Speaker 1: turn to it. Rather it's like, hey, you know what, Um,
- 26:36Speaker 1: he's taken kind of his own influence out of the
- 26:39Speaker 1: music and he's given us just straight Bible for people
- 26:41Speaker 1: that don't like to read too much. I got you faded.
- 26:44Speaker 1: We we put it in music so you could just
- 26:46Speaker 1: turn it on and let it hit your spirit. Now.
- 26:49Speaker 1: You know, the thing about it is that one thing
- 26:51Speaker 1: I was typical ever since I was eighteen years old,
- 26:54Speaker 1: I've always been uplifting. When I look back at my life, Yeah,
- 26:57Speaker 1: I looked at I've been the same guy when I
- 26:59Speaker 1: was a t You know, I'm students who are struggling
- 27:02Speaker 1: in college. I I found out why they were struggling
- 27:05Speaker 1: and trying to help them move forward. You know, you can,
- 27:07Speaker 1: but then you can only help people so much. But again,
- 27:09Speaker 1: there you are there to uplift the same thing with you.
- 27:12Speaker 1: You know, you're not only delivering great music and great
- 27:16Speaker 1: content with your albums and your your success story, but
- 27:19Speaker 1: also you're having to emerge in the artists and trying
- 27:22Speaker 1: to get their songs out there, get their songs produced
- 27:24Speaker 1: with your production company. Talk to us about that and
- 27:27Speaker 1: why is that important to you? Man? We're saying this,
- 27:30Speaker 1: this probably the best idea that God ever ever gave
- 27:33Speaker 1: me before Manum a subscription based production company. I know,
- 27:37Speaker 1: the production sometimes people pay UM or they try to.
- 27:40Speaker 1: They pay so much money to record UM albums, you know,
- 27:45Speaker 1: not like you can get up to in gospel means
- 27:46Speaker 1: you can get up to fifty to a hundred thousand
- 27:50Speaker 1: dollars depending on what kind of budget you're working with. UM.
- 27:53Speaker 1: So what my team and I we came up with
- 27:55Speaker 1: was a subscription model where people just pay a flat
- 27:58Speaker 1: for your fifteen hundred dollars a month to up to
- 28:01Speaker 1: four songs and production, and then they walk away owning
- 28:04Speaker 1: the masters. And so um we we have seen I mean,
- 28:08Speaker 1: what what I thought was gonna be like a little
- 28:10Speaker 1: small company launch um we We right away started with
- 28:14Speaker 1: over five hundred subscribers that um that immediately said hey,
- 28:18Speaker 1: we want help producing our music. And so um, now
- 28:22Speaker 1: we got producers all over the world to sit at
- 28:25Speaker 1: home and wait for us to give them the greenlight
- 28:27Speaker 1: to start producing on a ton of projects. And like
- 28:31Speaker 1: I said, it just gives people a chance to kind
- 28:32Speaker 1: of even the playing field because sometimes, like you say,
- 28:35Speaker 1: whether it's gospel music or any music in the entertainment industry,
- 28:38Speaker 1: it kind of can feel like a fraternity that people
- 28:40Speaker 1: cannot get into. And so I wanted to open the
- 28:43Speaker 1: door for everybody so they can try to get in.
- 28:45Speaker 1: At least you have a chance to have some product. Well,
- 28:48Speaker 1: you know, his new album is Anthems and Glorious seventeen songs,
- 28:51Speaker 1: is live. I love live. I love it. It's not
- 28:54Speaker 1: because you know it live. You play with a song
- 28:56Speaker 1: a little bit more, okay, you know. So you know
- 28:59Speaker 1: about all time grade and live album was Franky Beverly
- 29:02Speaker 1: Amazed in New Orleans. So come on that, uh and
- 29:05Speaker 1: and uh Marvin Gate live in London my all time favorite.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Come on Old School on School, but I got some
- 29:12Speaker 1: new school y'all, A something t songs. Baby, he got
- 29:16Speaker 1: my girl tabler Man on that, my boy smoking Doorville
- 29:20Speaker 1: here and sheer. Oh. Man, these people have been on
- 29:22Speaker 1: my show. They've talked to me. I've hugged him that
- 29:25Speaker 1: I've been blessed by them. More important, I'm being blessed
- 29:27Speaker 1: by you with this great interview. Man, you you're your friend,
- 29:29Speaker 1: young brother. In fact, you're you're a little brother. Welcome
- 29:33Speaker 1: to my world. Okay, yes, indeed, thank you, my brother.
- 29:36Speaker 1: And we gonna keep promoting man. Put you on social
