- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarfl Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Welcome to Connecting the Dots, where
- 0:17we filter through the noise in tech and finance
- 0:20to give you what you really need to know. It
- 0:22is Monday, November 17th, 2025. Good morning.
- 0:27And we have two big themes today, really. It
- 0:30all boils down to the cost of corporate efficiency,
- 0:33whether that's driven by AI or just old fashioned
- 0:38Wall Street demands. It's a really interesting
- 0:40dynamic. And weather wise, we're watching renewed
- 0:44fears for heavy rain, maybe some landslides in
- 0:47Southern California, while parts of the Northeast
- 0:49are. You know already seen snow and in the markets.
- 0:52Well the volatility from last week seems to have
- 0:55calmed down a little bit The indices were looking
- 0:57pretty steady this morning. Yeah, the Dow and
- 0:59the s &p 500 both closed up Not by a huge amount
- 1:03but still in positive territory. Right and what
- 1:05about crypto? I saw bitcoin was up for the day,
- 1:07but it was but That's a bit deceiving. Had a
- 1:10small daily balance, sure, but it's still down
- 1:12significantly over 10 % since last Monday. Okay,
- 1:15so some stability, but still some underlying
- 1:17weakness there. So before we get into our morning
- 1:19star, that's the Snarfle Tech article report,
- 1:22we want to thank our sponsor, Old Glory. Yes.
- 1:25If you have that techie friend or family member
- 1:28who is just impossible to shop for during the
- 1:31holidays, Old Glory is... I mean, it's your answer.
- 1:34It really is. They're an iconic music and sports
- 1:36fan merch store. Think vintage concert tees,
- 1:40pro sports gear, just about everything. It's
- 1:42a guaranteed win. And here's the best part. For
- 1:44our listeners, if you use the promo code SNARFL
- 1:47at checkout, you get 15 % off your entire purchase.
- 1:50A huge saving. You can check them out at OldGlory
- 1:52.com. All right, let's jump in. We have three
- 1:55big stories, and they all circle around this
- 1:57idea of disruption. Yeah, but in very different
- 1:59ways. Let's start with what we're calling the
- 2:01AI paradox. OK, so this revolves around the CEO
- 2:04of Klarna, Sebastian Simitkowski. And he's a
- 2:08key figure to watch because he was one of the
- 2:09earliest, most enthusiastic adopters of generative
- 2:12AI. I remember this. Back in 2023, he told Sam
- 2:16Altman he wanted Klarna to be ChatGPT's favorite
- 2:19guinea pig. His favorite guinea pig. And now
- 2:21he's the one sounding the alarm. He's saying,
- 2:24and I'm quoting here, tech bros are sugarcoating
- 2:27the disruption that's on its way. And he's worried
- 2:29about a specific group, knowledge workers. This
- 2:32isn't about factory jobs anymore. He's talking
- 2:34about a massive shift for finance, for society,
- 2:37really. And you don't even have to look for hypotheticals.
- 2:39You just have to look at his own company. Right.
- 2:41Klarna itself. Klarna launched an open AI powered
- 2:44customer service chat bot that almost overnight.
- 2:48was doing the work of 800 full -time human agents.
- 2:52800. That number is just staggering. And it didn't
- 2:55stop there, did it? Not at all. With that AI
- 2:57push, they reduced their entire employee base
- 3:00from around 7 ,400 people down to 3 ,000. Wow.
- 3:04And the business result? A 38 % jump in US revenue
- 3:07and rising profits. So you have this direct line
- 3:10from workforce reduction to financial success.
- 3:14That's the paradox right there. It is. And what
- 3:16gets lost in that success story is the speed
- 3:18of it all. Steve Mikowski's point is that, yeah,
- 3:21new jobs might get created in the long run, but
- 3:23what about now? That doesn't help the people
- 3:25who are out of a job today. He used a really
- 3:27specific example, didn't he? He did, a very powerful
- 3:30one. He mentioned the thousands of translators
- 3:32in Brussels, whose jobs, he says, can now largely
- 3:36be done by AI. He said, society will have to
- 3:39figure out, what are we going to do? That doesn't
- 3:42help the Brussels translator. He's not going
- 3:44to become a YouTube influencer tomorrow. That
- 3:47really cuts to the heart of it. It's a societal
- 3:49problem, not just an economic one. But hold on,
- 3:51let's push back on this a little. Did they really
- 3:54replace 800 agents with no consequences? Because
- 3:58our sources mentioned that Klarna actually had
- 3:59to recalibrate things after a wave of customer
- 4:02complaints. That's the key tension, yeah. They
- 4:04got complaints about the lack of human support.
- 4:06So if you cut 800 people and quality immediately
- 4:09drops, Did you really replace those jobs? Or
- 4:12did you just decide the cost savings were worth
- 4:14the hit to your reputation? Well, and Sigmund
- 4:17Kowski basically admitted that. He said that
- 4:18if you focus only on cost, you often end up with
- 4:21lower quality. So companies are now trying to
- 4:24find that line between efficiency and reputational
- 4:29damage. Which brings us to a second big concern,
- 4:32our second story, the infrastructure cost. Another
- 4:36layer of the paradox. Here's a CEO who is profiting
- 4:40immensely from AI, but now he's saying he's nervous
- 4:43about the size of these investments in these
- 4:45data centers. He owns Stakes and OpenAI perplexity
- 4:48and XAI, yet he's questioning the trillion dollar
- 4:52price tag to build out all this infrastructure.
- 4:54Right, the data centers, the power, the cool,
- 4:57everything you need to run these huge AI models.
- 4:59It's a fascinating internal contradiction. It
- 5:02makes you wonder if we're building a kind of
- 5:03infrastructure bubble, you know, where the cost
- 5:06to run the machine might eventually outweigh
- 5:08the benefit. Well, what's so interesting is how
- 5:10personally he has adopted the tech. He's also
- 5:13questioning. I mean, he's not just using it.
- 5:15He's become Exhibit A. Oh, absolutely. He showed
- 5:17up on an earnings call, what, last May, not as
- 5:20himself, but as an AI generated video replica
- 5:22of himself. And it gets better. Klarna rolled
- 5:25out a 247 AI CEO hotline. Using his voice in
- 5:28his conversational style. They literally cloned
- 5:31their CEO for customer service It's wild and
- 5:34he's taking it home with him, too He said he
- 5:36uses AI all the time even for something. He calls
- 5:39vibe coding vibes coding Yeah, basically exploring
- 5:42Klarna's code base at home for fun There was
- 5:44this great quote where he says his wife complains
- 5:47because after the kids are asleep He's like,
- 5:48hey, can I just go and vibe code a bit? So he's
- 5:50got the full tech founder obsession Okay, so
- 5:54from AI disruption. Let's pivot to our third
- 5:56story, which is A massive disruption of a totally
- 5:59different kind. A huge one. A corporate earthquake
- 6:03in the media world. MSNBC is officially rebranding.
- 6:07As of two days ago, it is now MSNW. MSNW. It
- 6:11stands for My Source, News, Opinion, and World.
- 6:14But the biggest change, the most visible one.
- 6:16The NBC peacock logo. It's gone. And this isn't
- 6:19just a simple logo change, right? This is the
- 6:22result of a massive corporate move. It is. It's
- 6:24because the parent company, Comcast, is spinning
- 6:27off its cable channels. We're talking CNBC, USA,
- 6:30E, and MSNBC into a whole new public company.
- 6:33What's it called? It's called Versant. It'll
- 6:35trade on the NASDAQ as VSNT. So if we're connecting
- 6:38the dots here, Comcast is looking at the future
- 6:41of cable, seeing all the cord cutting and deciding
- 6:44to, what, shed those assets? It's corporate triage,
- 6:47basically. They see these as mature, maybe declining
- 6:50assets, and they want to separate them from the
- 6:53core Comcast brand to protect its valuation.
- 6:56So the BC is dropped from MSNBC because NBC Universal
- 7:01doesn't want its brand tied to a network it no
- 7:04longer fully controlled. Exactly. And that raises
- 7:07a huge question for viewers. What does losing
- 7:10the NBC brand do to your credibility? Yeah. That
- 7:14legacy brand carries a lot of journalistic weight,
- 7:16even for opinion shows. MSN or W has to build
- 7:20that trust from scratch. They're trying. The
- 7:22operational split was apparently really complex,
- 7:25unwinding news operations and bureaus. Correspondents
- 7:28had to choose where to go. So people like Jacob
- 7:30Soboroff and Kandalian, they chose to go with
- 7:33the new company with Versand and MSNOW? They
- 7:35did. And all the big opinion hosts are making
- 7:37the move, too. Mato, Scarborough, Saki, all of
- 7:40them. And what's the new mission statement? Their
- 7:42tagline is, same mission, new name. They're trying
- 7:46hard to project stability. They're setting up
- 7:48their own Washington bureau. And they've even
- 7:50signed a multi -year deal with Sky News for international
- 7:53coverage. So they're building an independent
- 7:55news organization. out of necessity. It's fascinating.
- 7:59You have AI disruption at Klarna and corporate
- 8:01disruption media, but it's all driven by the
- 8:03same thing. The relentless demand for efficiency
- 8:06and shareholder value. Exactly. And before we
- 8:09wrap this all up, we want to thank our other
- 8:11fantastic sponsor, Skone. If you're a golfer,
- 8:14you know your shoes are everything. Skone is
- 8:16the premium golf shoe store, and they perfectly
- 8:19combine high -performance tech with really great
- 8:22style. They offer amazing stability and comfort.
- 8:24And for our listeners, just use that promo code
- 8:27SNARFL at checkout for 15 % off your whole purchase
- 8:30at scony .com. Alright, so let's recap the big
- 8:33threads from today. Okay, first, the AI paradox.
- 8:37Klarna is making huge profits by replacing knowledge
- 8:40workers, but its own CEO is now worried about
- 8:43the massive infrastructure costs. Second, the
- 8:46human cost. That Brussels translator example
- 8:48really sticks with you skilled workers being
- 8:51displaced in the short term with no real plan
- 8:53for what comes next. Even his executives are
- 8:56playing with AI replicas and vibe coding. Right.
- 8:59And finally, the massive media shake up. MSNBC
- 9:03becomes MSN now W. Not for editorial reasons,
- 9:06but because of a cold corporate strategy by Comcast
- 9:09to offload its cable assets. Forcing this new
- 9:12brand, Versant, to completely redefine its credibility
- 9:15outside of that legacy NBC umbrella. So we'll
- 9:18leave you with this to think about. In a world
- 9:21where corporate strategy demands shedding assets
- 9:23for profit, whether those assets are human employees
- 9:25replaced by AI, or legacy brands spun off, which
- 9:29one will actually prove more valuable in the
- 9:30long run? The speed and efficiency of replacement,
- 9:33or the quality and trust built by those human
- 9:35legacy institutions. We're here to help at Snarfl,
